3. Technical Problems
• Throughout this powerpoint I will be talking about the different problems that I can come across whilst production and
explaining how each problem will be resolved. This is important information because if I am faced with any problems
whilst producing my project, I can refer back to this powerpoint as it should hopefully give me a range of different
solutions to resolve the issue. This will help to stop me from wasting time for my production.
• The first technical problem I will be considering is the equipment that will be used in my project, to be more specific, my
phone. I have chosen to review this issue as this is a important piece of equipment for the project.
• A potential issue I could be faced with is battery life, I need to ensure I have enough phone battery throughout the day as
if my phone was die, I wouldn’t be able to continue to take photos if there is no access to a charger. To stop this problem
from happening I will make sure to have a high battery life, preferably 100% before going out to take photos, and take
multiple portable chargers and a plug just incase there is a suitable place to charge it. You can also turn your phone onto
power saving mode, this is a option on Iphone which can be accessed in settings. This will also ensure that my phone has
enough battery life to last me as long as possible.
• Another issue which needs to be considered whilst taking photos, is loss of data/images stored on it. I believe that this is a
very unlikely event however it needs to be thought about. To ensure this is not a problem, make sure when the photos
have been taken you put them straight onto something else, such as computer, memory stick or one drive. Using these to
back up your photos will ensure that if anything was to happen to your phone at any point you would have a back up this
way you won’t loose anything and you can carry on with your project with less problems.
• Overall I think it is very important to cover research on potential issues faced when taking photos on Iphone. This included
the procedures I would follow in the unlikely event of loosing any data or images on the phone or not being able to gain
access due to battery running out. I believed they were the most crucial problems I had consider very hard to continue if
this problem was to occur.
4. Technical Problems – Equipment
• After researching the potential problems with using a phone camera, I will now look into other equipment. This includes
computers and lighting. I believe it is important to look into this equipment as if a problem occurs I have a solution to fix it.
• I am going to look into computer problems first, this is one of the main pieces of equipment I will be using as I will edit my
photos on this and all my powerpoints and planning. One problem that can happen is loss of data, this could be an issue as
the computer could stop working unexpectedly, or remove work that is on the device. To prevent this from happening I
will ensure to have more then one copy as this way I can’t loose any work and won’t have to do any of it again. Using a
memory stick or one drive is a good way to store all work.
• Another technical problem is I need to consider throughout my equipment is the lighting placed in the studio. This is
important as this will help with the quality of my photos. A problem this could cause is the heat from the lights being
turned on can cause the room the heat up quickly causing it to be uncomfortable, to stop this from happening I am going
to make sure I turn off the light regularly or when I am not using them to keep the room at a comfortable heat and safe
environment to work in. Another problem I have with the lights is that when taking photos in the studio there is more
then one light in the studio so the chances of one or more not working is increased. To stop this from being a problem I
will use one working light for all my project and utilize it in ways I need to. Eg. If I need close up light I will either bring the
light closer to the model or object or take it from further away but be closer to the light to get the right amount of light
needed. Another solution to this problem is that I will plan photos that I don’t need to take in the studio to prevent from
using any lights that way it stops any lighting problems from happening.
• Overall I am happy I covered potential issues faced with other equipment which I will use throughout the project. I think
looking into this helps me to gather all obstacles that could occur throughout my project and how to be prepared which
will hopefully improve the production of my FMP.
5. Technical Problems – Photoshop Tutorials
• Next I am going to look closer into a potential problem I could face throughout the use of Photoshop tutorials. I will be
using Photoshop tutorials for my project as without them it will make my project simple and boring.
• The first technique I am going to talk about is ’Watercolour Effect’ when doing this experiment I used a photo off the
internet to test this experiment. I followed a youtube video produced by iLLPHOCORPHICS, I wanted to use a photo similar
to what the man used in the video so I found one online so I could follow the steps properly and see if it is something I
want to use.
• A problem I was faced whilst following this tutorial was paint brush tools as the brushes used in the tutorial were not pre-
existing ones on Photoshop. I recognized this problem when the tutorial started and clicked the description of the video to
try and see if I was able to download the same brushes that were used on the video, however this was not a option so I
tried to find a brush that looks similar, I have talked about this as a technical problem as it is stopping me from conducting
my project to a good standard as getting my photos to look effective and how I want them. From a previous project I have
produced I had downloaded which were very similar to the brushes I needed so I was able to produce this experiment and
make it look effective and something I want to use for my FMP. Another solution I could’ve used was looking for a different
watercolour effect video and seen if they had brushes I could have downloaded. This would have prevented this problem
from happening as the brushes would’ve been identical to what was used in the tutorial.
• Overall I am happy with the tutorial I used as I think it looks effective, it wasn’t difficult to follow and the final outlook
looks very similar to the tutorial. I will use this in my FMP. To prepare myself for my final product I will look into better
looking brushes to make sure I do this technique to its best ability.
6. Technical Problems – Photoshop
• After completing a tutorial to produce a Watercolour effect in the previous slide. I will now take a closer look at a tutorial
called ‘Glitch Effect’ produced by the channel ‘Spoon Graphics’ I had a different idea I wanted to do but the glitch effect
would work for the idea I wanted to make. I have used from the internet again. The reason I have used this tutorial is
because it will fit in with all my photos and fit with the theme overall. This tutorial has the potential to be featured in my
final product. It is a 6 minute video so it isn’t intense to follow and doesn’t take a lot of time to do. It is very visually
pleasing and looks more complex then it actually is.
• A technical problem I faced was the image I used as a example for how I wanted it to look like, I couldn’t find a similar
photo, and it also used 2 photos in black and white. Whereas mine was just from the internet and I couldn’t managed to
get 2 similar photos. However I still managed to make it work and look effective. To solve this problem for my FMP I will
need to take 2 photos with the same lighting and angle but I will have one facing forward and one facing either left or right
as I want the photo to look unusual and have different facial features facing different ways.
• I am very happy I have researched the technical problems faced throughout the tutorial as I can now look back into this
when I am creating my final project. This will help me to see what I need to do when taking photos and how I can make my
product look appealing and have a good layout.
7. Production Experiments – Photoshop – Images
This is my starting image. This is
the transformation of my water
colour experiment. The photo I
used for this experiment was just
a photo from google. I wanted to
use a photo similar to what was
used in the tutorial so it was
easier for me to follow. I did this
experiment with the YouTube
channel iLLPHOCORPHICS.
After mentioning the technical
problems against this tutorial,
you can see that they have been
improved/altered. The first
improvement I did was to look
for similar water colour brushes
as this is what makes the overall
product look good.
From the image above you can see the
overall outcome of the product. You can
see that the brush tool I found online
have worked and can not tell the
difference between the 2 photos. I think
this worked very successfully as it
replicates the brushed used in the
original tutorial.
8. This next experiment was the glitch effect.
As you can see from the final image it looks
different to the original tutorial but it uses
the same techniques. I have included the
image I took inspiration off as this was one
of the problems I faced.
This is the tutorial I followed for
this experiment. It is a different
look to what I wanted but it
uses the same method to
create the look I wanted. The
problem I faced with it tutorial
is that it only includes one
photos, however in the photo I
was using as inspiration it has
different angles of a face
making it more difficult for my
final product.
This was the final outcome,
I like how it turned out as I
think it looks more complex
then it is and looks
effective and weird. In my
final product I will play
around and try and make it
how I want it as I don’t
think it will be hard to
achieve.
9. Technical Problem – Storage
• Another technical problem I will be considering and could face throughout the project is storage on equipment. I will be
using my personal Macbook which I bring into college to complete the project. This laptop contains all work from previous
projects and different applications. However I have a high storage amount on the laptop so it is not likely this will happen
but it is a problem to consider as if it for some reason does happen it will stop me from completing my work. I am also using
my phone to take photos which would also cause a problem if this runs out of storage as it will stop me from taking photos
for my project.
• The first problem would be if my laptop runs out of storage, a way to stop this from happening is to frequently check the
storage, this can show you how much different apps and documents are taking up the most room on your laptop. This will
help massively as I can check the storage levels and can make some more room if needed. Another option is MacOs Sierra.
This prevents your laptop from using up all storage, it can detect duplicate downloads in safari, it also reminds you to delete
used app installers and removes old fonts and dictionaries which are no longer used on the latest softwares. This will play a
big part in a solution of the problem as it helps to safe storage making it less likely to loose storage throughout the project.
• Another problem I can face with storage is using my phone for taking photos. With is being my phone is means it has all my
personal stuff on it e.g. social media and photos I have taken on a day to day basis, which means it is more likely to loose
storage quicker then my laptop as there is more stuff on my phone. A solution for this is to go through and delete apps and
photos that I haven’t used or needed in a while, this is a quick way to free up storage to make sure the photos taken for this
project stay safe. Another option which Apple provide is that you can buy storage on the settings app. Buying extra storage
would definitely ensure that you would have enough room and you will be safe throughout the whole of the project.
• I am glad I looked into storage issues as I can now manage my storage efficiently so that I hopefully won’t come across any
storage problems but I will keep reffering back to this throughout my project as this is the problem I need most not to
happen as it could ruin my whole project so I will make sure to check my storage to keep myself safe.
10. Production Experiment (Iphone) – Images
I have 2 different types of photos I have experimented
with. The first 3 photos are all of a similar style, they are all
close ups using a ring light. They were also taken in my
bedroom which makes the background look less plain
which would have been preffered as I think portrait photos
look better with plain backgrounds. These are some of the
photos I am not going to use for my project but it helps to
show a good example of the sort of photos which will be
used. I took many photos like these and I will be using
some of the better angled and posed photos as I think they
will look better for my project.
These photos are photos I have taken in the studio
at college, I think these photos were more planned
out and look more effective. There is more lights
and equipment that I can use in the studio to make
my photos look more professional. There is a
variation of colour, close up and standing up photos
in this photoshoot. I am planning on using the
coloured photos for my project as I think they fit
well with the theme and I can make them look
detailed and professional when edited, it also breaks
up the plain portraits and adds more excitement and
looks more interesting for the audience.
11. Technical Problems - Software
• Another technical problem I could come across in this project is software. This is very important to think about because
could potentially cause a large scale problem, this could lead me to do possibly no longer being able to carry on with my
project, however any of the problems talked about in previous slides whether they are big or small can cause a potential
problems and lead to more. I will look into different solutions to how to fix this issue if anything was to happen.
• The first problem is the unlikely event of the software I am using to crash throughout my project. This could cause a major
problem as it could delete changes I have made throughout the day. To stop this from happening I will make sure to save
regularly so I am able to get the most updated version of my work, I will also make sure to save my work in more then one
place, either one drive or on a memory stick as I will be able to move computers or continue work from home. Adobe have
a auto save option so this will be helpful to have as it saves regularly and keeps it on the system for you to come back to it.
• The next problem I can be faced against is the performance of the Software’s I am using for my project. This includes the
software being slow or being irresponsive throughout the project. To solve this problem I will make sure to restart all
software used throughout the day to ensure that the software is working to its best ability.
• Overall I am glad I looked into this potential issue as I feel if this unlikely problem was to happen then I would have a plan
on what I can do to solve it.
12. Technical Problems - Power
• This is the final technical problem I am going to analyze, I will now look into power. The main equipment I am using for my
project use battery and power. I think it is important to look into this problem as it could stop the production of my
project. The power I am going to be looking into is the MacBook and Phone used throughout the project.
• The first technical problem I could face is power featured in the Iphone and the decrease in battery life, I believe this is
important to look into this as it could cause a big problem as it can stop me from taking photos I way this could be solved
by closing all apps I have on in the background as this can drain the battery and turn my phone onto power saving, this
dulls the screen and helps to keep battery going for as long as possible. This will ensure that I am making my battery last as
long as possible. Another solution would be to carry a charger with me or a portable charger, where I am planning on
taking my photos I should always have access to a plug and be able to charge my phone if needed, however I will carry a
portable charger with me as if there is no plug access I can use this as a last resort to charge my phone.
• Another problem is power in my Macbook when i am using all the different software it uses up a lot of my battery so this
causes a problem as it means my laptop will die quicker. With this being a problem that has happened in previous projects,
I also carry my laptop charger with me to college as there is many plug sockets for me to use to be able to charge it up. A
way to save the battery is to put it in sleep mode when I am not using it as this help to save battery better and so it is not
using battery whilst it is not being used.
• Looking into this problem is good as I can gather lots of information and steps on how to prevent this problem from
happening and being able to complete my project with no equipment issues.
14. Health and Safety Hazard Solution
Spilling liquid across equipment To prevent this from happening I will make sure to I keep drinks or any
liquid away from any equipment as this stops anything from spilling.
Eye strain To stop this I can adjust the brightness on my laptop as this puts less strain
onto your eyes, another solution would be to take breaks frequently so I’m
not looking at a screen for long durations.
Headaches/Migranes This is a similar solution to eye strain, I will take breaks so that I’m not
looking at a screen for too long and to reduce the screen brightness.
Backache For this problem I will focus on my posture, I will make sure to take short
intervals, exercises and stretches as I believe this will help to release fluids
that are stuck in the position you have been working in.
Equipment around the classroom To prevent this make sure to tuck all bags under tables and nothing is in
the way for anyone to trip over and cause a injury.
Macbook radiation The best way to prevent this hazard is to maximizing my distance from the
device, this should decrease the likelihood of any serious outcomes.
15. Evaluation
• Over the 2 weeks, I have completed my technical problems, production experiments and theoretical problems I could be faced against
throughout my FMP project. I believe this is important to look in to as it will help me throughout the project if any problems happen. The
results I have received could be very helpful for my final grade. I feel more reassured with production which I will be able to reflect and
show with the products I produce. In this slide I will look into positive aspects I would like to take away from the work I have completed in
each section and also look into what could be improved to help with my upcoming project.
• I will beginning by looking closer into my technical problems, it was very important to look in to as if faced with a problem throughout
the project I can refer back to this PowerPoint and look at solutions that can help me to fix it. I included more then 1 solution so if one
doesn’t work then I have another one to try. I go into detail throughout this section and I think going back to look through if needed, it
would be overwhelming as it is a lot of writing. A way I could’ve made this easier for myself is including photos as if I needed a solution
quickly instead of having to read through everything I could just look at the photos to make it quick and simple for me to understand.
• Next I will look in to my production experiments I created. I also believe that it is important to include these experiments throughout the
PowerPoint as this also shows me other problems that need to be considered there I wouldn’t of realized. It is also important as it helps
to get experience in the products I will be producing in a few weeks. I believe this section was completed successfully as I looked into the
important aspects on how it will be included in my project and look good but I also looked into how I can improve the product for when I
am making it for my project. I am able to look back at this later on and learn from my mistakes and take onboard the good and bad things
of the experiment and improve it to make it better for my project.
• The final section in my PowerPoint is my theoretical problems, I included this section because it often features the smaller issues faced
throughout my project. This is important as these hazards could cause damaging effects on my production if they are not looked into or
familiar to myself. This section is completed successfully as I followed a similar structure to my technical problems which included
different solutions I can follow if I need to solve a problem. I completed this section with a graph which analyses potential health and
safety hazards. I believe this is very important as my health and safety is the most important whilst producing my project, completing this
and looking into potential issues I now have a clear understanding to avoid any dangers.
