The document describes the process of creating a music video, including research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback. It discusses researching songs for inspiration, struggles with time management that led to changing plans, simple camerawork and editing to match the song, and peer feedback praising the concept but noting needs for better focus and acting.
3. RESEARCH
- The songs I researched featured elements I was going to
include in my original plan for my music video
- I researched two different genres that included features I
wanted to feature in my music video. The three songs I
researched were; daydreaming, uh huh! and like I got it.
These songs are vary varied with their style and techniques
- I took inspiration from Radiohead Daydreaming with the
style of my music video. The same concept with the main
character moving between different locations with jump
cuts between. My character will move behind the camera,
into doorways and passing corners instead of going through
doorways.
- The problem I had with my research was that I could not
find more examples of he genre I was going to use in my
music video. Another problem I had with my research was to
find inspiration and camera tricks I could use in my music
video
4. PLANNING
- Planning my music video went smoothly as I came up with
a strong idea in a short amount of time and found a song
that would pair with the song quickly.
- In the end my planning did not get used in my final
product, as my time management was not great and I had to
go with a plan B. I had to use the plan B as I had no access
to a camera to film and after half term I had one week to
film and put the video together
- The planning included many elements but I left some out
as I filmed in college and the slides were not needed to be
filled out. For example like contacts with my crew as the
crew was just me and josh and the filming was within
college time, they did not need my contact information.
- The main thing I could have improved on my planning
would be the overall pace on how I did it, I could have done
it way faster and focused on the task more
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
- My time management was a big problem within this
project and really effected the quality of my work. In the
end I had to revert to a different plan which was
completely different to my original plan.
-The way I got around this problem was by reverting to
my plan B. This plan B was simple and was easy to film
and edit. In the end it worked out as my music video was
finished in time and had some good things about it but it
could have been better with a bit better time
management and planning.
- My main focus on upcoming projects will be to handle
my time better to make sure that my work is as best as it
can be.
- If I had more time I would like to film more for my
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
- With the shots I was using I did not require any unique camera
movement or skill. The shots I used were simple and required
no movement with them. The shots being so simple gives the
music video a nice atmosphere. The shots worked with the
song as they were both simple. This gave the music video
another layer of an atmosphere
- Some shots were taken from behind the corner the character
would walk to. The corner would cover a part of the shot. This
was a good camera shot to create the effect of the character
being trapped or enclosed with the environment. Which
created a deeper effect within the music video.
- The artist would also walk from one location and walk past the
camera or walk from behind the camera to walk behind a
corner. This gives a connection between the audience and the
character, as the character walks from where the audience is
viewing
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES โ
EDITING/POST
- Again with my time management being poor I needed to
think of an idea that required little editing but could
still be an effective music video
- The music video was easy to edit as all the editing work
needed was to cut the shots at the right time to create
the effect of the character moving through the different
locations.
- Another technique I used was the use of the reverse. I
used this with reversing the shots in the same order
they were in until the character arrived at the window,
this created the effect of the character going on a
journey to get to the location
- Overall the editing could have been better if I used my
first idea, which required a lot more editing work. The
editing was effective In my music video and paired with
the song nicely. It was subtle and calming like the music
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
- My work does look good as a final project but could have been
way better with my first idea. The idea was creative as it went a
different direction to other music videos. For example, my music
video did not have a real meaning or purpose, no lip-syncing
either. The things I would improve about my music video would be
the overall finish of the video, the video is very basic and does not
have a lot of structure to it, this is mainly due to having no time to
film or make the video.
- Strengths: The main strength about my video is the storyline with
the jump cuts between the shots which create the effect that the
character is jumping through these locations by only walking
through doors or around corners. Another strength would be the
acting from the character as his expression made the video have
some emotion to it. Weaknesses: The main weakness is the quality
of the filming, this could be improved easily with a few reshoots
but as I was struggling for time I had to go with the first shot I
could take. Overall this video could have improved massively with
good time management and better planning.
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
The audience liked the way that the shots were positioned and
liked how the song and the beat fit with the music video.
Another thing they liked was the artistic structure of the
character going backwards
Things they would change is a bit more is the quality of the
music video, I fully agree with this statement as my music
video was not the best in all honesty.
The target was very open as the genre of music has a wide
range of an audience, the music video did appeal to the target
audience. The video matched the music, this appealed to the
audience as it was an easy watch. The calm lighting in this shot matches
the music as the music is calm too,
the same with the bright walls. The
dark clothing contrasts this setting
and makes the character stand out
11. JOSHUA BAILEY
What did you like about the product?
I like the way the music video fits the music and the
beat. The cuts to different locations are good and are in
time with the change in music. The whole effect of going
backwards is cool, its artistic.
-What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Could have planned better (costume, reaction, setting).
For example, the whole colour change of the outfit does
not fit with the style of the music video. The acting is
pretty stale. Could have reacted more.
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
I really like the concept to this as the video idea is
simplistic yet very effective. In my opinion, It showcases
the idea of being/feeling trapped.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Just maybe make sure the camera has better focus next
time :)
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
The product was very fun to watch and I enjoyed throughout. The
music video took a different approach and made it interesting to watch
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
The improvement I would make would be to make sure the shots are in
focus and maybe have more depth to the music video as it was
repetative
14. PEER FEEDBACK
SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
- I agree about the video being very rushed and a lot can
be changed to increase the quality of the video
- I also agree about the video being unique with the
approach
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
- I donโt disagree with any of the statements that my
peers have commented on my music video as I know this
is not my best work and definitely could have been
improved massively
