This document contains an evaluation of the production process for a music video. It discusses the planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback received. The planning focused on storyboarding each shot, but could have included more ideas. Time management was adequate but could have been improved with better scheduling. Peer feedback noted repetitive clips and staged footage, and suggested filming in different locations and syncing cuts better to the music.
3. RESEARCH
My research helped me to realise the different style of
music videos that there is, I was initially planning on
making a video of a band just playing and a few clips of
the band doing something because it’s the most
common type of video in the indie genre. But then I also
noticed that there was a few music videos that told a
story and didn’t have anything to do with the band. I also
got to see how story type of videos were made and how
they looked, with colour grading and black bars. I think
that I could of looked at different genres of music video
a bit more so that I could have had more ideas from
them to put into my video because I didn’t want my
video to stick to any type of genre.
4. PLANNING
My planning was down to each shot which really helped
me when it came to filming because I had something that
I could follow on my phone and I could just get on with it
without having to come up with the shots whilst I was
there. I think that I could of come up with a few more
ideas because I only came up with one and half of
another one and I think that coming up with some others
would of given me some more ideas to put into my
music video. I also wish that I had planned how I would
film each shot so that I didn’t have to carry a tripod on
me if I wasn’t going to use it for every shot.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I think that I managed my time okay. I could of defiantly
done it a lot better. I could of planned better with the
people that I was filming with and I could have had set
dates to film on the week before so that I knew that I
could defiantly film. I think that my product would of
improved if I had more time to film because I would have
been able to go to different locations or re shoot some
shots to make them better. I would also be able to add
more things to it when I’m editing and made some of the
effects better and smoother. If I had more time I would
go and get some more shots and some other locations
so that the video didn’t look so repeated with the shots
of them together. I would also of have made the TV
effect better and I would of made it fade in at the end
without just flashing onto the footage.
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I really like the way my video looks, I really like the colour grading
that I did to it and the black bars. I also like how it switches from
very modern looking footage to very low quality and old footage, I
haven't seen a video constantly switch between them before.

Dark and light
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I think the video appeals to the listeners of the song because it
shows everything being on a TV which can relate to the lyrics of
the song and they can like it because it puts in video form the
lyrics to the song. I also think that people that haven't heard the
song can like it because it shows how TV relationships aren't real
and they are unachievable, and people try and live up to TV
standards.

11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
The archway used to begin and end the music video helps to create a
bookend effect, a technique uncommon in music videos.
The flickering picture used at certain intervals with the video is an
inspired visual touch and is a callback to how analogue television
reception would sometimes play up.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Some of the cuts in the music video last less than a second, denying
the audience an opportunity to catch their breath.
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
The camerawork was steady throughout and the filming felt very
professional
The TV effect was clearly difficult to do but it turned out really well
The visual effects were really great and worked well with the song,
especially when it was edited on beat
It was interesting to watch the story you had created
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Some of the clips could have been a bit more natural as
they appeared quite staged
Some clips felt a little repetitive
Try filming at different locations
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
-The video as a whole was really good I liked the way when
the music sped up you zoomed in and out with the camera.
-I liked how at the end the camera zoomed out and they
were on the TV
-I liked the similarities between the beginning and the end
of the video, when the shots go really fast and the filter you
put over it.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
- On some scenes the song is quite fast and upbeat but the
video is kind of slow and doesn’t really fit in time with it.
-The scene when they were sat on the bench talking lasted
quite a long time maybe you could of added another scene
of them doing something together so it isn’t so long.
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with most of my feedback, especially about
filming in different locations. I think that if I had more
time I could have gone to more locations. I also think
that the video could be slightly more obvious to the
story. I also think that a lot of the clips were repetative.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree that some clips need to be longer than a
second for the audience to catch their breath as it is
supposed to be fast paced and hard to see and it’s
supposed to go in time with the music. I don't agree that
all the video has to be in time, because it's supposed to
tell a story and all of it isn't supposed to cut in time
when they story is being told.
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
People said that they liked the colour grading of the video.
They also liked the different zooms and cuts. People also
liked the editing. They said that I could have filmed in more
locations and it could have a bit more in time and have slower
cuts. They also said that a lot of the clips were very
repetitive.
