NEA Planning 1
A) & B)
a) Which subgenre are you choosing? Why?
The sub-genre I will be using for my magazine will street wear / soft grunge because the target
audience is from 16-25 years old and therefore they’d go for more of a grunge look from my
perspective it looks as if it is more casual wear in this years fashion.
b) Are you intending on REINFORCING OR SUBVERTING conventions? How? Why?
I will be reinforcing the conventions as I am trying to get the best marks and best outcome possible
as I my aim is to try and make this more professional and more like a magazine you see on shelves.
How I will be doing this is by making sure I write the conventions that I want to do and focus on
them more to get the best possible outcome.
C)
C) What conventions are you applying to your magazine? How? Why? Make a list.
Cover Lines & Masthead- This is to make it more like a magazine that you see in a shop and in general
without having cover lines and masthead it won’t be reinforcing the fashion aspect of a magazine.
High Key Lighting- This is to make the model stand out and make her/him the focus on the magazine as
the magazine is focusing on fashion and how she/he is and what she/he is wearing to present the type of
clothes she/he is wearing as well as the way the models body language and the expression will be.
Colour Scheme- This is important by presenting the colours or whom this will be for as red/pink would be
more woman / female based and more blue would be for men / female.
These are some of the conventions I will be applying.
 D) Explain why you are NOT applying certain conventions that you see in other similar media texts
Some of the conventions I will NOT be applying are:
Celebrities on the front cover because that is impossible for me to contact a ‘celebrity’ and get in
him/her in my media work.
As it is a fashion magazine I will be talking about fashion and tips for that not about ‘health and diet’
etc.
E)
 E) How will your subgenre conventions appeal to or attract your target audience?
The subgenre conventions will appeal to the audience of the matter of fact as it is 16-25 year old
male and female. It looks more like casual clothes you’d wear on a normal day out as they are
‘sophisticated’ they’d want to stand out from the other classes therefore have a unique pattern and
design would make them more stand out as a class.
