2. I have chosen to represent a main pop female artist
with smaller images of a pop band. My research has
helped me to decide this because most female pop
magazines include a woman on the front, which
intrigues the target audience. It also includes smaller
pictures of male artists and bands. This will make the
target audience be visually pleased with the images
that they see.
Who am I going to represent in my magazine and how does this research help me?
3. The mise-en-scene is significant within a magazine
because it represents the genre of that magazine. For
example, if the background of one of the images
included bright yellow stars then that would most
likely signify a pop magazine. If it included a black,
concert background then that would most likely
signify a Rock magazine. The mise-en-scene helps
establish the genre more for the target audience so
that they are not confused.
How does mise-en-scene signify genre?
4. The clothes are also important on the models. This is
because bright clothes can signify the genre of pop
and dark clothes can signify the genre of rock. The
clothes on the artists will help the target audience
establish the genre and they may also make the
target audience idolise them and so would make
them want to buy these clothes to look like these
artists.
How does clothes signify the genre?
5. By knowing what clothes and mise-en-scene to
include, I can make sure that my final product
establishes the genre by using these two
conventions. I will therefore use bright clothes to
symbolise a pop magazine. However, I will use a blank
white wall for the main front cover and a blue bench
with a brick wall for my contents page to also
symbolise a pop magazine.
How can you use this information to produce your product?
6. As I have chosen to undertake the genre pop, this will
create representational issues. As I am taking pictures
of people at college, they will need to wear bright
clothes and make up in which they may not do. Also,
as it is a pop magazine, it is hard to show stereotypes
as using a boy for example may symbolise that I am
aiming at males when I am aiming at young females.
