Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
From the outset, I have aimed my
media product at people aged 16-25,
however I am aware that there is
overlap and should allow for some
leeway, especially when thinking about
people older than 25 reading the
magazine.
R&B music is targeted at 13 to 25 year
olds but when considering the type of
media product this is, a magazine,
younger people are less likely to buy
magazines when there are things like
social media which appeal more to
younger generations.
On average, R&B listeners are predominately
female. This could be due to a large fraction of
the songs produced in the R&B genre that are
about love, heartbreak and lust – which
stereotypically appeal to teenage girls/young
adults.
Male R&B artists usually target a female
audience as they are portrayed in a sexual way,
whether it is through lyrics, nudity/clothing.
Typically, male cover stars and artists are
presented to look sexually appealing to entice
women readers.
I asked people who enjoy R&B music what ‘social bracket’ they felt they
fitted into
I used the 21st century social classes
This allowed me to view where and who my magazine should be aimed
at, which social class, which can help with pricing the magazine. From
those who took the survey, around 80% identified with ‘new affluent
workers’. On average these people are aged 18-24 and are usually
students who are ‘socially and culturally active’
