The document discusses the target audience for a magazine about R&B music. It indicates that while the music is targeted at 13-25 year olds, magazines may appeal more to older readers. Research showed that 80% of R&B listeners identified with the "new affluent workers" class of 18-24 year old students. As examples, it provides profiles of Jayda, a 17-year old fashion student from London interested in R&B, dancing and design, and Sam, a 19-year old business student from London who writes songs and raps about his life with dreams of becoming a famous recording artist.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. From the outset, I have aimed my
media product at people aged 16-25,
however I am aware that there is
overlap and should allow for some
leeway, especially when thinking about
people older than 25 reading the
magazine.
R&B music is targeted at 13 to 25 year
olds but when considering the type of
media product this is, a magazine,
younger people are less likely to buy
magazines when there are things like
social media which appeal more to
younger generations.
3. On average, R&B listeners are predominately
female. This could be due to a large fraction of
the songs produced in the R&B genre that are
about love, heartbreak and lust – which
stereotypically appeal to teenage girls/young
adults.
Male R&B artists usually target a female
audience as they are portrayed in a sexual way,
whether it is through lyrics, nudity/clothing.
Typically, male cover stars and artists are
presented to look sexually appealing to entice
women readers.
4. I asked people who enjoy R&B music what ‘social bracket’ they felt they
fitted into
I used the 21st century social classes
This allowed me to view where and who my magazine should be aimed
at, which social class, which can help with pricing the magazine. From
those who took the survey, around 80% identified with ‘new affluent
workers’. On average these people are aged 18-24 and are usually
students who are ‘socially and culturally active’
