2. COSTUME
When dressing my models I decided to use a more sophisticated approach to an outfit. I knew the exact appearance
I wanted my models to have so it was perfectly set out in my mind. With Sophia I decided she needed to be wearing
something black, preferably a dress, below the knee so she wouldn'tโt be discriminated in any wrong way. Then I
added a pair of stiletto heels to add height onto her small frame and size. I decided to have Sophia in this outfit
because her age group and my target audience take quite a lot of pride in their appearance. I decided to dress my
model as fashionable as possible which invites a wider range of target audience. For Kyle I decided to let him
choose his outfit with great trust in him, he succeeded perfectly. He wore casual jeans, white t shirt and trainers. I
believe his outfit will suit my target audience as my male target audience are all pretty laid back and just like to dress
casual. Nowadays most teenagers read magazines to find out the latest fashion tips, this is why I had to make sure
my magazine models where as best dressed as possible.
3. MISE EN SCENE
The next thing I had to look at was how to take my images, the shot angles, lighting, color contrast, facial expression and
poses. My model is perfect in front of the camera and she is an absolute natural, so she basically did her own thing along with
my help and also me taking into account my target audience and social group. I chose an indoor shoot, in my models
bedroom it had quite a bad lighting but my camera had a really good effect which transformed the image. It was as if it was a
professional photo shoot. My social group wanted to see something different so this is why I decided to make my image a
little original rather than the photo shopped air brushed images the celebrities use. Billboard is an inspiration to me and my
target audience but there is no way my models could match to the celebrities used in billboards magazines. For my mise en
scene I realized that billboard take very much care in this feature of their magazine, and this is why a lot of detail and time
went into my planning and research, but just like billboard we both like to change and create new conventions or make them
our own so this is exactly what I did.
4. USE OF LANGUAGE
When the use of language came into my magazine I really had to think about which way my use of language would
not only come across to my primary and secondary target audience but also to new readers, heir first impressions
mean everything to me and my magazine structure and planning. As their opinion is my initial feedback from the
outside (not including my target audience). When researching billboard I realized the way you present your
language is how you connect and relate to the reader. In some parts of my magazine like my masthead and titles I
used quite laid back informal language, this is the language which invites my target audience,. Other times I had to
make sure my language was as formal as possible or outside readers whom did not know how my magazine like
my main target audience, this would also allow my magazine to stay as professional as possible. When writing my
article for my double page spread which was taken in an interview and straight onto the page. I tried to make my
questions for the interviewee as formal as possible which would make my magazine stay as professional as
possible. Here are a few shots of some of the language I used for my magazine.
5. CAMERA ANGLES
๏ถ During my photo shoots, I realized there was more than one choice of camera angles and
shots. When researching, billboard tend to use mid shots and close ups. This I believe is to show
their models main features and by using close ups they can air brush to make their models look
as pristine as possible. This makes the image look so much professional which also gives a
professional effect on the whole magazine. I decided to use a mid shot and a close up, these are
the two most known camera angles/camera shots to my target audience which is the reason I
have used these. This also relates to my social group as this group likes to see more than one
angle/camera shot and this is why I have mixed it up a little though out my photo shoots
through out my whole magazine. This will make my magazine a lot more appealing to other
audiences not just my own. Below are a few angle/camera shots I used for my magazine, as you
can see they vary.
6. SOCIAL GRADE, AGE AND
ETHNICITY
For my magazine I have decided the social grade will be around a C1,
I did not want to judge it to high or low so I believe a C1 will be
perfect. Age range between 16-24 is ideal for my genre and magazine
style. I believe I can relate to this as of me being 17. I targeted white
british individuals as I think those are the audience whom will enjoy
my magazine the most. White british people are the only people I
used for my research and surveys.
