The combination of the main music video product and ancillary digipak and magazine advert products is effective at promoting the band's album.
All three products use consistent elements like a black color scheme and raw, gritty aesthetic to represent the band's rebellious image. Specific shots and artwork are reused across products, like the live performance image on the digipak also appearing in the video. Shared album artwork, font, and record label branding further link the ancillary products and reinforce the band's identity. Text like "limited edition" is added to drive interest and sales. Overall, the complementary and reinforcing nature of the elements across the three promotional products helps sell the album and band's concept.
2. Introduction
For our A2 media course work we had to create a promotional package
that includes a music video (main product), a digipak and a magazine
advert (Ancillary products). The main product for the promotional package
is the music video and the ancillary products are what are supporting it.
Throughout this presentation I will be explaining how all three of these
products relate to each other, sell the album and reinforce the image of
the band.
3. Throughout both the main product and the ancillary products there is conventions that have been followed
though each product. For the magazine and digipak the main colour scheme was black, this is a convention
in the rock music genre as it is to represent rebellion which is also shown in the music video.
The colour scheme is also representing the
bands image. The continues use of black in
the ancillary products links to the rebellious
narrative of the music video. The colour
black was also present in the music video
with the two band members wearing this
colour and the use of the black and white
effect.
The image on the back of the digipak is
taken from one of the live performance
scenes in the video. The people that buy the
digipak will see this and will be influenced to
watch the music video. This will also work if
they have seen the video it will be
recognisable to the audience.
4. The album artwork is the same on both ancillary products (digipak and magazine advert). This
links the two products together as they are using the same image for advertisement as the
product that is being sold. The choice of font being used has also been kept the same of both of
the ancillary products which keeps the continuity between the two products. Also by using the
same font and image audiences will recognise the digipak after seeing the advert. In addition to
this the sales of the digipak could increase because the audience of the band instantly know it is
theirs.
The scuff effect that have been used on the
background of the digipak has also been used
on the background of the advert once again
adding to the continuity of the products. The
scuff effect also makes it look raw and gritty
which this effect and idea has been created in
the music video by making it black and white.
5. Another small link between the advertisement and the digipak is that they
both contain the record label in which Royal Blood are signed to. I was
able to find out this information while researching the band and seeking
permission to use the song. This is a small thing that audiences will notice
as it is a well known record company and their logo is easily recognisable.
Another thing that will increase the amount of sales is the piece of text
written on both the advert and digipak, this is ‘Limited Edition’. This will
make the audience more interested in the product as they think it is
something special or there is only a certain number available and they will
be missing out on something if they do not buy it.
6. The album art work has been used on both the digipak and the magazine advert.
This doesn't just link them together but also links to the narrative of the music
video and song lyrics. ‘loose change’ ‘Another penny in my pocket again’. The
album art work that is used is an image of a coin that had the two band members
in the centre.
It is not just the song title that but also the narrative that we decided on for the
video. The narrative is about a man pretending to be a homeless man and taking
peoples money but wen asked by charity workers to give money he wont, this is
where the idea of money and the idea of being rich and powerful has come from
and this is shown by our designed artwork. The two band members being inside
the coin makes them seem powerful due to the fact that this is what money
represents.
