How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
1. Question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
BY ANGUS AND AARON
2. Outline of your brand concept
(Album cover)
• The concept of the Album covers and the website was to follow a natural
theme, this was continuous throughout the music video as well it entails
natures shots and scenic backgrounds. The idea sprouted from the genre
of the music, as in these sorts of indie rock and alternative rock a lot of
the music videos and music is about nature/life.
• The lyrics state in the video ‘he turns around an see the world he knows
fall apart’ this could connote the destruction of nature and how the world
is changing as the world becomes more modern in this age which became
the inspiration for the theme which we used.
• The theme is continuous throughout the three products created, the way
we did this was by the natures shots in the video and also on the album
cover and website.
3. The main focus in the
image is the setting sun,
over the hills with the
trees below this could
connote that there is a
new start coming and
another day in the future.
The font used on
the album cover is
similar to that
which we used on
the website.
Furthermore, the
placement is low
down which
connotes that this
bad part of there
life's The image used
for the album
cover was also
used as the
background for
the website, this
helped link our
media products
together, it would
also make the
consumer know
how they link in
together.
The trees at the bottom of the picture link into the nature theme with that being what's
most common to people in nature. In addition, it is dark showing that there could be a
dark side to the narrative.
The dark pink
background
works well with
alternative rock
genre
appealing to
both genders,
as it is these
days a gender
neutral colour.
4. Brand concept (website)
• The brand concept was to have the nature look within the
website and a upbeat look so consumers don’t get bored by
the website. In addition, we wanted a reoccurring colour
scheme throughout the ancillary products. This colour
scheme was a bright purple colour and the photo was the
sky this linked to the song as it is a upbeat song about
struggles with life so we thought nature would link to this
as it is a big part of life and the world
• In addition, we linked web 3.0 to our website due to the
use of links and extra parts to the website which gives the
consumers something extra to look at or buy for instance.
There is an example of purchasing the song on out website
link at the bottom.
5. The colour scheme is the
same throughout the website
and album cover as it is the
same picture that we used.
This provided continuity
throughout the ancillary
products
Also we have
pictures of the
band members to
show the
audience would
the key people
are in the
production of the
music video and
this made the
audience feel like
they know the
band members
In addition,
the pictures
link to the
brand concept
of nature. This
is due to the
two photos
being outside.
Furthermore,
this allows the
audience to
see who are in
the video
We tried to use
bright colours
to resemble the
light colours of
nature which
we use
throughout the
ancillary
products
6. Logo
This is our company logo,
throughout the music video and
ancillary products we didn’t use
the company logo, this is due to
me and Aaron not feeling that is
was relevant to the product
themes that we had. The logo
was mainly used for the
company pitch.
7. The continuity of the ancillary
products
• The ancillary products link together by the re-use of similar fonts
and pictures, and example given would be the fact that we used the
same photo for the album cover as the image for the website
background.
• The photos used on the website are photos from the music video
taken from screen shots and photos from the same location in
which we got the photo for the album cover.
• Each photo used we tried to make the most of what was in the
background, instead of most photos of artists we used scenic
locations for our photo shoots to create that more scenic and that
natural feel to the different tasks.
• The images link with the music video due to the shots being mostly
outside and scenic shots of nature. Therefore, we have tired to
replicate this within our ancillary tasks.
8. Distribution and Brand image
• With the distribution of our music video and album the aim of it would be at a
niche audience, so for this I would have it distributed by a indie record label for
example ‘Sun Records’ or ‘King Records’. With the change in technology these days
means distribution is not such a big factor in the making or breaking of an artist as
the album would also be on Spotify and iTunes etc.
• The brand image is where it becomes a little bit more complicated, we would still
like to look like we are trying to appeal to a niche market while trying to get the
album and works out to a variety of people and a large as possible international
audience.
• The Brand image was designed for a sort of unisex vibe to try appeal to both
genders hence the dark pink being recurring colour being our consistent theme.
This would increase our customer base due to the product appealing to both
genders
• We also kept the continuity of the ancillaries due to the band image we would
create. For instance, if all the colours and pictures are the same for example
consumers will know its the Grizfolk band due to the continuity of the other
products.
