2. Digipak analysis
When creating my Digi-Pak I wanted to
create an image appropriate to the song and
the style of music, but I also wanted it to
contrast to introduce the audience to new
ideas. I have chosen the colours Black,
White, red and purple for my colour scheme.
I have done this because when used
together these colours help each other stand
out and create a bold image. These colour
also match with the style of music my artist,
Fall Out Boy, creates. They are a punk pop
band and black, white and red are often
associated with this music and the purple is
related to the existing Fall Out Boy products.
I have chosen to use images of the artist on
my digipak so the audience can clearly see
who performs the music.
We wanted to include images that
were iconic to the artist and style of
music. The fire and flowers are very
punk-pop items, they’re both also
linked to the music video. The song
‘The Last Of The Real Ones’ that we
made a video to, we decided to make
it a ‘featured’ track on our digipak,
this makes synergy between all the
products. I decided to use a variety of
different fonts and sizes so it didn’t
become to repetitive. Adding words
like ’featured’ adds depth and gives
the audience something to focus on.
Within this I have outlined the title of
the song by highlighting them in a
bigger font. I have chosen to write
‘featured’ in red as it ties into the
colour scheme and draws attention to
it. The artists name is written at the
top of the digipak in colours that are
in my colour scheme. The font I have
chosen to use is looks like a punk
style font which fits in with the genre.
For the inside covers, we as a group decided to just have a plain and simple, black with white paint
splatters. The black ties into the colour scheme and helps to read the white writing on the inside
front cover. However on the inside back cover we have just gone for a black background with lot of
white paint splats. This ties into the colour scheme and the genre as paint splats conveys a graffiti
look and punk-pop music connotes messages of rebellion.
3. Magazine advert analysis
We made my poster after we made the
digipak as we wanted to make them
very similar so people would associate
them with each other. We have used
the same colour scheme of Black,
White Purple and Red and used them
in the same way as I have done on the
front cover. we have used the same
fonts as the digipak which helps define
the punk music genre.
We have used the same font as
before for this and decided to
combine the colour of purple, white
and black to match the colour
scheme. Also there is an
advertisement for the song that we
made the video to, which again
creates synergy between my
products.
One of the main differences
between our digipak and
poster is that we have used a
different image, however
there are similarities, Jack,
the main actor in the video is
in the middle on both
images. We have done this to
make them different but at
the same time it has kept
the main elements of the
digipak. Also there is an
advertisement for the song
that we made the video to,
which again creates synergy
between my products.
4. How my products link summary/overview:
My groups main product and my ancillary tasks link together effectively but also contrast to give a
of images for the audience to look at. We have chosen to focus on words and their meaning both the
and my ancillary tasks. There is fast cutting pace scene in the music video adding tension to the video
fits in time with the music. After doing this I decided to include more images which were similar to this
where the audience can see the male lead role primarily in the print products. This is when we came
the idea of using paint splats on the inside covers because not only does it give the audience
interesting to look at but it also links into the genre.
Another way in which my products link is the genre of music and the font types we have used. The
the music is punk pop which can be defined by the prominent colour scheme and the rebelliousness
font, inside covers and the clothing. When making the digipak we wanted the audience to identify the
genre easily, using the font and colours we did makes a very stereotypical look for magazines adverts
digipaks in the punk pop genre that the band we have chosen is in.
We also tried to contrast the digipak and advert from the video by focusing on the narrative to create
colour scheme. I have chosen Black, White and purple because these colours go well together and
stands out against the other and they all appear in the music video .
