Q2. How does your media productrepresentparticular social groups?
To answer this question I will be looking at the different social groups and how
I have used them to representthe genre of music that I have chosen. The
different groups that I will be looking at are Gender, age, socialclass and
ethnicity.
Gender:
Throughoutmy magazine I have used male artists. I havedone this because the
genre of music that I had decided to do for my magazineis mainly done by
male artists. In music magazinemales are typically playing instruments, I have
kept to this convention in my magazineby using an image where full male
bands are all playing instruments.
Age:
While planning the photography for magazineI decided that I would take
images of people that are in the age rangeof the audience that will be buying
my magazine. I chooseto do this because the audience of my magazine will
relate to them more. Also the age of the artist in my magazine are important to
the genre of music that I am doing. This is Indierock, this genre of music is
mainly done by a younger generation of musicians.
Social class:
The artists that I have feature are likely to be froma middle class back ground.
My target audience that will be purchasing my magazinewill be froma mix of
different classes but will be dominantly middle class. This is may be due to the
price of my magazine. The price of my magazineis £3.50, people froma middle
class background willbe moreattracted to the price becauseit will be more
affordablerather than someonefroma working class background.
Ethnicity:
The ethnicity in my magazine is monocultural, this meaning that I have only
used one type of ethnicity in the photographs in my magazine. I had decided to
only usewhite people in my magazine due to the genre of music that I had
chosen is dominantly performed by white people. So to keep my magazine as
realistic as possibleI needed to relate the models in my magazineto the genre
as much as I could. Also due to the area that I live in has a higher proportion of
white people then black people. Itwould be hard for me to include a black
person in my magazinedue to this.
