2. The results show that predominantly,
my potential audience consists of
females, however the male percent is
also very high. If I was to make my
magazine appeal only to females, I
would be alienating 46.43% of my
potential audience that are males.
Because this percentage is so high, I
have decided to make my magazine
multi- gender so that it can appeal to
both males and females. When
researching about competition, that
there are not many neutral gender rock
magazines on the market therefore will
make my magazine unique . This will
be achieved by using neutral colours
that are not stereotypically linked to a
certain sex and covering storylines that
both genders will find interesting.
3. Over half of the people who took my
survey were aged between 15 – 17. No-
one was under the age of 15 which
suggests my magazine should be aimed
at more mature teenagers. 28.57% of
people were aged between 18 and 20
and 17.86% over 21. As the majority of
my audience are teenagers, I will focus
on having a magazine that aims to
appeal to the younger generation. I
think the maximum age I will have my
magazine is 24. This is because 25 is the
next milestone from 18 therefore I
think ages below this will fit in with the
young audience appeal. As the
responses are older, I will be able to
use taboo language, humour and puns
as they will be appropriate for the age
range.
4. A large majority (89%) of
people who took my survey
enjoy listening to rock/ indie
rock music. This is useful as
my magazine will be based
around this genre therefore
will have a greater potential
target audience. It also
means that the rest of the
information collected in my
survey will be relevant to my
specific audience as it would
have been chosen by the
rock/indie rock listeners.
5. Here, I have established that most
people buy a music magazine on a
monthly basis. This response was
a lot more popular than weekly or
yearly issue releases therefore has
helped me to decide how often I
will release an issue. This will also
effect the price of my magazine
and the price of subscribing. A lot
of people said that they never buy
a music magazine which suggests
that I need to include something
unique that will stand out and
make my magazine more popular
to introduce new customers to the
market.
6. The majority of those who
answered said they are willing
to spend between £2.00 -
£2.99 on a music magazine.
The next highest response was
£3.00 or over. This suggests
that I should look towards the
higher end of the £2.00 –
£2.99 category and charge
maybe £2.99 for my magazine.
This would be an appropriate
price which looks cheaper than
£3.00 yet is still very close. The
price of my magazine can be
justified by its content and
quality.
7. Most of the people I surveyed,
said that they preferred reading
detailed articles. This was
decided by nearly half of the
people who responded. The
second highest response that
people showed great interest in
was artist gossip stories. This
suggests that my double page
spread article needs to be well
detailed and could be based
around an artists gossip story to
appeal to a total of 78% of
responses. I have found that
Q&A’s are not very popular
therefore will not include them
in my magazine.
8. Other
Out of the people who responded to my
survey, the three most popular colour
choices were black, white and blue. This is
useful as black and white are colours that
are generally associated with rock and
indie rock therefore will play a vital role in
my magazine. The colour blue was the
second most popular however could be
seen as a masculine colour but does link in
with the Great Britain attitude towards
rock. “Other” colours suggested by the
participants themselves include purple and
red.
9. I asked the question “What magazine
bonus features appeal to you?”
because I feel that added extras
appeal to teenage target audiences.
From my audience research, I found
that at indie rock concerts, souvenirs
and collectables are extremely
popular and appealing items that
allow fans to show admiration for
their favourite band. By putting this
on the front cover I will be able to
draw in the readers and make the
magazine more interactive. From the
choices I offered, it is clear that the
most popular feature is posters which
I will advertise as a “free” exclusive.
