Audience Profile – Genre: Indie/Alternative
Target Audience:
Gender and Age (Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities)
The denotation of the target audience of my magazine is young
females (a small percentage of men also) aged between 16 – 25.
This is because the magazine is mainly based around indie music
artists, fashion and film – all of which are interests to young
females whom are interested in this genre of music.
Socio-Economic Needs:
The denotation of the socio- economic needs of the magazines
readership demographic is going to be people from C2 – E. This is
because the magazine is filled with fashion articles along with more
free- spirited ideas which may interest people whom are part of
these categories. Another reason why these are the socio-economic
needs is because the magazine is cheaper than many others on the
market, as it is priced at £3.99.
Katz’ Uses & Gratifications Theory and Maslow’s
Hierarchy of needs: My magazine is targeting music, fashion
and film. The readers will be ‘informed & Educated’ on the
upcoming fashions, as well as film reviews and the top music
charts/interviews at that moment in time. I will targeting survivors
because my magazine will be targeting people who want security in
what they read, for example similar content each month.
In accordance with Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, the readership
are most likely going to be ‘survivors’. This is because my I would
like to ensure that my readers would feel that they would be able
to return to my magazine each month to be able to read about
consistent content to the previous month so they feel secure and a
part of a routine.
Stereotype(s):
The stereotype reader for my magazine is young women aged between
16 – 25.
