The results denote that the average age of the people who took part in my survey is
between the ages of 16 and 17, with a few participants over 19. To increase the reliability
of the results from my survey I could target older audiences to gather their opinion on
music magazines, however since my magazine has a target audience of 15-25, I don’t
believe this will be necessary.
The data displayed could denote how the majority of people are influenced to buy a
magazine from the star presented on the front cover. As a result, I will try to put
emphasis on the star, by using techniques such as a masthead overlap and bold text
referring to the star.
These results depict that that the most popular form of magazine promotion is the
chance to win free concert tickets. As a result, I will use the opportunity to win free
concert tickets as a puff promotion on my magazine front cover. This should hopefully
attract a larger audience and therefore increasing the readership of the magazine.
These results indicate that most people do choose their magazine based on the brand so
it is important for me to focus on the branding and appeal of my magazine. I have worked
on the logo of my magazine to make it look as professional as possible and I will aim to
keep the house styles consistent throughout. However, this data could connote that
some people already have a preferred magazine, so it is important for me to have a USP
when branding the magazine.
From this I can see that the content people want from a magazine is generally new music
and not current affairs surrounding celebrities. I will focus my double page spread more
on the artist’s new music rather than interviewing them about their own personal affairs.
This data denotes how the most popular genre of music is Songwriter/Indie, which is
what I plan to focus my magazine on with a hint of popular music. By doing so I will be
able to increase the readership of my magazine and make more profits. This information
also gives me an idea of what products and music I should be advertising in my magazine.
This data depicts that most people are prepared to pay £1-£3 for a music magazine,
however I would prefer to make my magazine free and be funded by advertising as it will
increase the readership of my magazine. From this data it is evident that my target
audience have a high income as they are able to spend more than £1 a month on
magazines.
This data connotes how the readership of music magazines in general isn’t very large
amongst younger audiences, so later down the line it might be beneficial to invest in a
digital copy of the magazine. If I were to create a new media product, I would most likely
aim to produce content that is compatible with Apple’s new News App as the majority of
teenagers in the UK have access to a smartphone and would be able to easily view my
content.
Most people prefer less information and more images, so I will aim to have a big image of
a star and less textual information on the front cover. This is convenient as the
singer/songwriter/indie genre is very simplistic and does not rely heavily on lots of
information.
Most people haven’t heard of many music magazines which could show it is a dying
market. However, I will aim to make my magazine a cross between the new-styled NME
and Q-Magazine. This may increase readership as it will be a modern new-styled
magazine that will be available to everyone for free with funding from advertisers.
Evidence of Questionnaire
Since, the questions asked for the
questionnaire, are identical to
those asked in the survey monkey, I
thought it would be appropriate to
manually input the results of the
questionnaire onto the survey
monkey. The results analyzed in this
document are therefore
representative of the questionnaire
and survey monkey combined.
