Questionnaire Summary
1. Questionnaire Summary
As you can see the majority of people who were included in this research were female. Initially I
tried to make it a fair test with ten males and ten females, however I found boys were more
reluctant to complete my questionnaire. In terms of my target audience, this tells me that girls may
be a more predominant audience when targeting my magazine based on the willingness and interest
that I gathered from undertaking this task.
I decided to ask this in order to gain a better comprehension of the niche market that I will be
targeting my magazine at. As shown, it is obvious that 16-18 is the predominate age that I would aim
my magazine at due to the noticeable large number, outweighing the other ages. Due to these
results and considering my music magazine genre, I believe it will be an accurate depiction of my
desired market that will represent my magazine as from the results seventeen out of twenty people
whom were asked are 16-18 year olds. In terms of my genre, I have confidence in my unique choice
(nostalgia rock) as I believe a younger audience need something new and something that they
haven’t seen before – thus from this audience research I am confident that my interesting choice of

2. genre could in fact work well with a leading audience of 16-18 year olds as it is not a mainstream
genre.
Similar to the previous question, it was clear that the majority of people who were asked were going
to be in education – with the exception of few in part time jobs as well as. From this question I was
hoping to learn more about my target audience – in terms of how much money they would roughly
have to purchase a magazine, furthermore telling me if they’d be able to purchase a magazine that
was on the more expensive side due to my magazine being an independent, exclusive music
magazine. In terms of my target audience, this tells me that I should reconsider the price of my
magazine in order to appeal to the audience more so, as I originally had a fairly high price down for
my magazine.
As you can see, Pop reigned as the peoples’ favourite genre of music with just over half of the vote –
which was not surprising as it is a very dominant genre in the music industry. To my surprise,

3. however, Rock came just under half of the vote which was great in terms of results as this informs
me on how well my genre could do since it is nostalgia rock. Considering my magazine, I am now
certain that Rock will be the centre to my project, as looking from my results it prevails, juxtaposed
with the other genres. You could argue that although Rock seems favourable, Pop is prevalent. Yet, I
want to create something that is unique, fresh and something that is not mainstream.
From my questionnaire, half of the results lay in the middle with £2.00-£2.50 which was expected. I
asked this question because I wanted to know what price to set my magazine at and from these
results I have decided that £3.50 would be ideal due to 30% of people choosing this. I would have
considered the overall vote of £2.00-£2.50, however as my magazine will be an independently
funded magazine, the price will be slightly higher than your standard magazine. I am happy with
these results as they give me confidence that £3.50 would be excepted as a price.
I asked this question because I simply wanted to understand when my music publication should be
circulated. The results show that people would prefer a magazine that was circulated fortnightly,

to them hafting to pay for the magazine on a more regular basis, which deemed to put them off.
Questions like this help me add small details (i.e. price, circulation date) on the front of my magazine
to create an authentic, more detailed product in order to gain a better mark.
I asked this question because I wanted to know how many people actually read music magazines.
From the results it is apparent that people tend not to read music magazines anymore – with
thirteen people saying no and only seven saying yes. I believe this largely comes down to social
media as there are many platforms that replace paper copies of magazines (i.e. NME Online). In
terms of my magazine, I will offer online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc on one
of the pages to entice the audience, by giving them options of both online and offline copies.
I wanted to ask this question because I wanted to get a better understanding of some colour
schemes that would attract an audience to read my music magazine. The results show that black and
psychedelic exceeded the other two options (blue and red tones & black and white) eleven people

5. out of twenty choosing it. What went wrong for me here was the fact that I was not particularly
certain of what colours I wanted to consider for my magazine – thus limiting my options when
referring to my audience research as ideas. In terms of my magazine, I will have to contemplate my
genre and the colour scheme to create representation.
From asking this question, I was hoping to learn about what my target audience wanted a magazine
to contain and what they found interesting to read. As shown, there were various answers given
which has given me a lot of material to work with in terms of content in my magazine – along with
what will be appealing to the niche market. In terms of my genre, nostalgia rock, I believe I will be
able to relate the suggested articles that is said to attract my target audience by linking it in and
concerning my magazine as a whole, the results from this questionnaire has given me a good base to
work from.

6. This question is very similar to the previous question, in the sense of what the audience would
prefer to feature in a magazine. Like the previous question, it has given me a lot of helpful
information that I will be using in order to create my magazine, for instance I will include a lot of
visual images to communicate with the audience as through the research it is clear that people enjoy
to see photos of their desired artist; where the bulk of the text will be in the double page spread.
I asked this because I wanted to know what style of music magazine people largely read. From my
research I did not gain enough information to draw a rounded conclusion due to the large amount of
people that did not read music magazines – therefore not being able to make a final judgment to
help me create my magazine, since every question I have asked will help me shape my project.

7. For my magazine, I will add small links to social media sites as online platforms have a massive
impact in our daily life. The results show (in order) that the most popular online network service is
Instagram with eighteen votes, Snapchat is second with seventeen votes, following is Twitter with
fifteen votes etc. In terms of my target audience, I will make sure that I include the top three online
sites so they are available to my audience, in hope to attract them even more so.
Lastly, I asked this question because I wanted to gain a further understanding of what an audience
found attractive and what caught their eye. The results show that either a colourful and eye catching
front cover seems to be popular, as does an alternative and non-conventional front cover – with
NME and Rolling Stone surpassing Classic Rock. In terms of my target audience, I will try to include
similar features that these two magazines have, such as the amount of cover lines and information
on Rolling Stone yet the alternative aspects of NME - in order to appeal to my niche market (largely
