Prelims of You've got EMAIL, an Entertainment, Music, Art, Internet and Literature quiz, organised by Conquiztadors, the Quiz society of Sri Venkateswara College under their annual quizzing fest El Dorado 2024.
2. RULES

â—Ź One point for each correct answer. No negative marking.
â—Ź Q5,13, 16 and 20 are star marked questions and will be used
to resolve ties.
â—Ź The decision of the QM is final and binding.
4. Q1. ID the band.
In an interview with HuffPost, artists from the collective
described how they named themselves.
“........We thought it sounded silly and random but made sense,
because that's where we all met.”
“We ran with it. We weren't worried about how easy it'd be to
search us online, because none of us are that thirsty for fame.
And also, the way the album was made reminds us of how

The ending track of Artpop, Lady Gaga’s album, opens with
the lines, "One second I'm a _______ fan, then suddenly the

While some online versions of the lyrics include the German
word for art, the others name an Artist. However, the
second theory holds more weight due to the album cover
which features the artist’s work.
11. Q3. ID the movie.
In an interview about his experience working with Sriram
Raghavan on the set of Merry Christmas, Sanjay Kapoor talked
about how to director was open to dialogue improvisations. In one
of the scenes Sanjay Kapoor’s character Ronnie while trying to
calm down an infuriated Albert (the protagonist) references
another movie from 4 decades prior.

X was an international art movement of pioneering artists from
Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam who caused a revolution
in modern art following World War II.
Formed in 1948, it emerged as the first truly international post-
war avant-garde art movement, with its members seeking new
means of expression, based on spontaneity and experimentation,
for a new society with the aim shedding established conventions
to reveal something new and vibrant beneath.
17. *Q5. What title did he receive? What was the larger cause?
Rashid Al Haddad, a 19 year old TikToker, recently shot to fame
due to comparisons with a Hollywood actor in his video where he
is sailing around on a ship and was thus dubbed __ ______
________ (3, 6, 8) a wordplay on the actors name. However,
Rashid was displeased with this and instead wanted the public to
focus on the larger cause he was trying to highlight.
21. Q6. ID book.
_____ ____ (5,4) is a 2018 book by Claire L. Evans which
highlights the significant, yet often overlooked, contributions of
women to the development and shaping of the internet and
technology. Its alliterative title, a pun, references a one word
technological term and also refers to a wide and diverse group of
women.
24. Q7. ID Media channel and the show.
X was a media channel started by the Sri Adhikari brothers with
programming meant for everyone.
One of the shows airing on the channel was about a town that had
been forgotten by the system and its happy-go-lucky residents.
The show was based on the writings of satirist and playwright
Sharad Joshi whose story “Tum ghar kab jaoge, atithi” was also
adapted into a film.
27. Q8. Name/describe the internet phenomenon.
A recreation of the given video was uploaded by B-teaches
animation on the Chinese video sharing platform Bilibili and
gained massive internet fame in the following weeks.
31. Q9. What meme?
A viral meme from last year happens to have the most
unexpected Kafkaesque origins. In the video, as this internet
personality attempts to emulate the emotions of Kafka
protagonists, he expresses confusion at his inability to understand
what is happening, and the situation he’s landed up in.
34. Q10. What was the caption?
Last year Swiggy posted this image
with a caption, sharing their own
twist to a viral trend that took the
internet by storm.
37. Q11. What was the drag queen’s name?
On an episode of Drag Race, RuPaul asks the guest judge, Norvina
if she’s a fan of the great impressionist painters . Norvina replies
with “Does _____ _ ______ count?” (5, 1, 6) naming a drag artist
while also referencing an impressionist.
The drag artist has explained that the actual origin of their drag
name came to them when they spotted a currency conversion
booth across the street while eating at a restaurant.
40. Q12. Who is X?
The recent release Crew features some not-so-subtle references
to X, even (nearly) naming its primary antagonist after him. Along
with this, the main cast’s bright red uniforms and the billionaire
antagonist’s financial woes make the comparison all too
apparent.
43. *Q13. Which artist + which movie?
As promotion for this movie’s release in a country, an iconic artist
was hired to create the following comic that was made available
as an exclusive to those who watched the film in theatres.
The artist, well known for their surreal and chilling art style said
that they were drawn to the project because of the way the movie
plays with the themes of light and dark.
50. Q15. Which website? What was the feature?
On a recent podcast, Hank Green rewrites the record on behalf of
his brother pertaining to a long running internet myth. The story
that the viral 2015 post apparently attributed to his brother
brought about the site-wide change in this popular blogging
platform was false. In fact it was just an intuitive change to make
as the site had a very apparently broken feature that needed to
be modified.

On their album Nayaab, rap-duo Seedhe Maut
seeks to pay tribute to their roots and their
background. This is reflected in the cover
artwork, riddled with references to
themselves and their music.

In science writer Sabrina Imbler’s debutrial work they have woven
their queer experiences with geological allegories aptly naming
the chapbook ____ (4).
59. Q18. Name the book.
Medianeras, a rom-com set in Buenos Aires, begins with the
female protagonist rediscovering one of her favourite childhood
books with a page she is never able to “solve’’. The movie comes
full circle when she is only able to spot her love interest in a busy
crowd because of his attire and her love of said book.
62. Q19. Who is Caballero compared to?
Pedro AlmodĂłvar Caballero is a Spanish film director and
screenwriter, hailing from a central-southern region of the
country called La Mancha. His humble origins, as a member of a
large and impoverished family of peasant stock, have left their
indelible mark on his work.
Through his films, he has become a representative icon of a Spain
that emerged after the repression of Franco’s dictatorship had
ended. Interestingly, his last name Caballero literally translates
to “knight”. Keen fans have often drawn parallels between his
life and that of another entity central to the Spanish identity.

Following what seems to be an age old path for success, this
musician started his journey in a band called ____ ____ (4, 5)
before transitioning to being a playback singer in Bollywood
movies. He got his first big break in the movie Rang De Basanti
and followed this with a hit track on the Jab We Met soundtrack.
