This is an analysis of my questionnaire, it shows the results of 94 people's answers and I have applied this to the content and information in my magazine.
2. How old are you?
Due to the demographic of the people I
asked, the majority of them were older.
This was to gather a wider range of
which age groups were interested in
Hip Hop music. However, my target
audience will remain lower as the
younger the survey taker was, the more
likely they were to buy a magazine.
They were also more interested in the
genre I will be exploring for this task.
3. What gender are you?
There were significantly more females
than males that carried out my survey.
However, the level of interest when
comparing the gender to the music
genre choice was similar. Although
there were more females who carried
out the survey, both males and females
enjoyed Hip Hop music there were
more females than males in comparison
but this is simply due to the amount of
women who carried out this survey.
4. What type of music do you like?
Both R&B and Hip Hop music had the
highest likeness in terms of this survey
and the options given. This means that
the data I collected from this
questionnaire is valued and can be used
when thinking about the things to
include in my magazine. I also gave the
option ‘other’ this gathered 32 responses
of Pop music. R&B music was most
popular amongst the 14-16 age bracket.
5. How do you listen to music?
Radio had the highest level of response. I
believe this is due to the highest age
bracket and the number of 35+ people
that carried out the survey. I do not
believe that this is because they are old
but instead because younger people
were most likely to listen to music on
Youtube or Spotify. This means that I will
make sure my magazine has a youtube
channel and possibly a spotify playlist the
fans of the magazine could follow.
6. How often do you buy music magazines?
Many people do not buy magazines anymore.
From the comments, I found that this is
because the magazines people were interested
in could also be viewed online- this meant that
all of the information they wanted could be
found online for free. This means that for my
magazine I would need to make my magazine’s
physical copy appealing and also have an online
version available. This could generate a larger
audience. The next most popular selection was
the ‘monthly’ option, this is how regularly I will
make my magazine.
7. Why do you read music magazines?
The most popular option for this
question was to find out information
about the cover artist. This means that
the double page spread I will create is
valued by the audience. However, this
was one of the more even questions in
terms of equality within the answers. A
common answer in the ‘other’ section
was for the posters. This means that I
may include a ‘pull-out-poster’
depending on the age range of my
magazine.
8. What would make you pick up a magazine?
Again, this question shows the significance
of the main image and the interest in them.
From this, I have decided not to use any
secondary images on my cover. This is due
to the importance of the celebrity
endorsement. This was followed by the
actual content of the magazine (the cover
lines). The audience tended to judge that as
an insight when contemplating whether to
buy a magazine rather than the actual
contents page.
9. How much would you be willing to pay for a music
magazine?
The average cost of a magazine that
people are prepared to spend on a
magazine is £1.00 to £2.99. This
however would be more like the cost of a
weekly magazine. The next highest
selected was £3.00 to £4.99. As my
magazine will be a monthly magazine I
will use this price for it. This will also
make the magazine more appealing,
because this is a low price for a monthly
magazine.
10. What do you expect to find in an 'R&B’ or ‘Hip-hop'
orientated magazine?
11. What do you expect to find in an 'R&B’ or ‘Hip-hop'
orientated magazine?
These answers show what I can include
on the contents and cover of the
magazine to make sure that this is
exactly what they expect to see. This also
means that the magazine should be
conventional in terms of the content. I
will sustain this and make sure that it
includes all of the features expected, the
most common featuring on the cover
page and the rest on the contents.
12. Would you subscribe to a magazine?
I will include a subscription option due to
some people who would and others who
would think about subscribing to a
magazine. This means that the entire
audience will have the option to
subscribe even if they do not wish to.
