Genome Editing Essay
Genome editing of germ line cells using CRISPR/Cas9 system
Recent studies suggest that genome editing of germ line cells is an effective strategy for mutated gene
correction in sperms and oocytes for the inhibition of onset of inherited disorder. The first time, germ
line genome editing in human by CRISPR/Cas9 system , was carried out to correct mutation of HBB
(Beta globin) gene in zygote of ÎČ thalassemia patients by homologous DNA recombination (HDR)
[80, 81]. Embryonic genome editing utilized in the treatment of such monogenic diseases prior to birth
is a rational use of embryonic genome editing in germ line cells. Homologous DNA recombination by
traditional gene editing techniques in mammalian eggs has a low rate ( 10%) in term of ... Show more

Because PGD usually is carried out by gametes prepared from parents. But parents who is confirmed
by PGD to have a high risk of transmition of inherited genetic mutation to their children and want to
have their own children, their gametes can be edited directly by Crisper/cas9 to create healthy
children.Nowdays germ line genome editing by programmable nuclease such as Crisper/cas9 is the
most useful tool to treat genetic diseases with high risk of inheritance mutation transmition.
Unresolved ethical problems still exist and are the main reason for delay onset of clinical trials in this
field. Large animal models can be utilized for a variety of monogenic diseases, particularly monogenic
neurological disorders like HD and Duchene muscular dystrophy) DMD (. Specificity, efficacy, and
side effects of germ line genome editing technology should be assessed by animal models before
entering clinical trials.
Generating mammalian models of neurodegenerative diseases using CRISPR/Cas9
Cas9 has been well studied. It belongs to the class II CRISPR/Cas system which is the main protein
involved in small interfering CRISPR RNA (crRNA). CRISPR RNA often leads to the silencing of
invader viruses and plasmids [72, 85]. Several in vitro surveys have shown that Cas9 is guided by
gRNA composed of chimeric RNA. Chimeric RNA is composed of crRNA and tracrRNA. They are

Pros And Cons Of The VA Scandal
The VA Scandal The Veterans Affairs program was originated to aid Veterans by providing them with
top of the line benefits and care. The United States Veteran Affairs operates the nation s largest health
care system to support a single group of Americans. They offer many amenities with hospitals, clinics,
community living centers, and much more. The Veterans Affairs office offers assistance to current
military personnel, Veterans, their dependents and survivors. On April of 2014, a scandal surrounding
the Veterans Affairs scandal went viral. The publicity started when there were cases where forty
United States veterans died while awaiting treatment in Phoenix, Arizona due to fraudulent actions,
systematic scheduling, along with delay of treatments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government s response to these discoveries was summed up with president Obama s statement,
We will not stand for substandard care for our veterans (Zezima1). Today, the Veteran s Affairs
program remains under audit and under criminal investigations. Although these audits and
investigations are looking to target the problems and improve the program, this could take years due to
the complexity of the program itself. So in theory are these actions hindering the system currently?
These audits and investigations have already made some improvements within the system. They have
pinned down the issue and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, has taken responsibility for the
confirmed allegations of long wait times and false record keeping (Zezimer,1), but can we really
contribute this whole scandal to one person? Of course not, it took the effort of many to be able to
falsify records. Even though Shinseki resigned that does not fix the problem. There will have to be an
extreme clearing in the system to rid the problem. As a matter of fact, the investigations and audit
could be making it more difficult for the veterans. The investigations call for many changes, which
could draw out the process of getting into the clinics and receiving benefits. So although the audits
will help in the long run, they are hindering in the present. Another thing to

Young Offenders Program Analysis
Introduction The Ministry of the Third Cross derived from the Young Offenders Program, which was
organized in 1997. The Young Offenders Program was a retreat offered for young, high risk male
felony probationers in Bexar Country Department and Corrections. This program was created for the
probationers rehabilitation plan. Their objective was to decrease recidivism and to rehabilitate the
offender. Today it is recognized as a state program. The Ministry of the Third Cross now offers retreats
for both men and women. These retreats are held on the weekend, where attendees are able to connect
with their inner spirit and the love of Jesus Christ. The retreat is surrounded by a supportive and
community friendly environment that assures attendees receive the best experience as possible. The
three R s , which are reflection, repentance, and renewal, are what attendees focus on during these
retreats. Judges have been known to offer this as an alternative for individuals as a part of their
community service. Then there is a separate program for individuals who have recently been paroled.

These drug courts strive to reduce arrest and incarceration rates. Instead of locking someone up in jail,
a diversion program such as this one helps rehabilitate and restore justice within the community. Just
like I learned in class, there are four phases in the drug court process. While I was sitting in and
examining the process, different parts of the phases were discussed. Some offenders were in phase 1,
while others were in phase 2, or 3. The majority of people in this diversion were having success within
the program, and that reflects what you have said about the success of drug

Hamlet Madness In Hamlet
When reading Shakespeare s Hamlet as a class, the first thing that most teachers or professors point
out is the argument/idea of sanity, specifically Hamlet s sanity. I believe that Hamlet is, in fact,
feigning his madness. What I do not know is if I believe this because it is what I was taught or if I
came up with the idea myself based on my own interpretation. When I was taught Hamlet there was
no argument it was just fact that he was faking his madness. Because of my confusion, I came to find
that it may be interesting take out of the play any moment in which Hamlet makes the audience aware
that he is only pretending that to be mad. I want to take out any proof that his madness isn t real. The
argument for legitimate madness is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In choosing to believe the ghost, he decides that he must seek revenge on his father s murderer and
will allow nothing to get in his way. From this moment on, Hamlet heads in a downward spiral and we
can track him losing his mind if we just erase the lines that express his plan to act like his is doing so.
These cuts begin from the moment when Hamlet says that he is going To put an antic disposition on
(Act I Scene V). Taking out this one line could change the play entirely. Most of the lines in which he
speaks of this part of his revenge plot following his original declaration of it are moments in which he
is attempting to explain that he isn t actually insane. By removing this one, small line we effectively
make it easier to argue that his madness isn t a part of his plot but it is an actual part of him. Without
having concrete proof before the madness starts that it is, in fact, planned how are we as an audience
supposed to trust him? Removing this line makes it so that the readers, and the other characters, are
entirely unaware of this part of his plan. He acts mad for a while before he mentions again that this is
his plan. The next time Hamlet discloses the part of his revenge plan is when he is speaking to
Guildenstern in Act II Scene II, and tells him that his uncle father and aunt mother are deceived and
then clarifies

Cultural revolution is something that has a massive impact on people from all walks of life. People
who lived through Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and surrounding areas have been impacted the
most. Katrina tough the people on the Gulf Coast that sometimes people have to go through the hard
obstacles in life to learn new things about themselves as well as survival. I believe that no matter how
broken thing appear you can overcome these devastating events such as Hurricane Katrina. Katrina
survivors hard work and dedication with limited resources have overcame all obstacle that was in my

Do Intelligence Research On Was Psychopaths, Particularly...
Question 1:
The group of people that I chose to do intelligence research on was psychopaths, particularly serial
killers. I did not focus on any particular subgroup, however there are subtypes of psychopaths such as
primary and secondary and among those two subtypes it is further broken down into distempered and
charismatic subtypes. In the article Psychopathy: Manipulation, Deception, and Evil, author Pamela
Kulbarsh (2012) defines a psychopath as a morally depraved individual who represent the monsters in
our society; an unstoppable and untreatable predator whose violence is planned, purposeful and
emotionless (p.1). While in the article it states that not all psychopaths are law breakers that is a
different story with serial killers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One other thing that makes serial killers unique is using their working memory to plan out extensive
details in committing a murder. It takes quite a bit of intelligence to plan out a detailed murder and
name step by step what they will do and what their back up plan will be if something does go wrong.
The average person cannot plan out their day step by step very thoroughly much less committing a
crime and getting away with it.
Genetics do play a part in psychopathic tendencies, but also the environment you grow up in and what
you are exposed to plays a role in it as well. For example, Ted Bundy. Crime Feed Staff (2015)
discovered many troubling details about the way he grew up. He lived a childhood full of lies. He
grew up thinking that his birth mother was his sister and that his grandparents were his parents only
later to learn that his sister was actually his mother and that his grandfather was possibly his father
making him a product of incest. There were many things that Bundy did as a child that showed his
strange attraction to violence (p.1). Bundy was exposed to pornography as a young age and became
addicted, he needed to fuel his addiction and his fantasies became so unbearable he turned it into his
reality. Dr. Al Carlisle, the psychologist who evaluated Ted Bundy, concluded that Because they have
painful memories from abuse, disappointment, humiliation, frustration, or being bullied, they have

The World Of The Third World
The Third World as a political project emerged out of Cold War rhetoric. It referred to a group of non
aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The
movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping.
Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the
Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). The Third
World as a political project was intrinsically linked to decolonization. Developing nations were
encouraged to stand against Western intervention and involvement in the economic affairs of the Third
World (Smith, n.d: 17). In addition, the project aimed to establish a new international economic order
in which developing countries would have greater control over their own natural resources (Smith,
n.d: 18). It also called for more cooperation in the third world in order to lessen their dependence on
leading institutional forums. As one of the most influential proponents of the Third World Project,
Jawaharlal Nehru specifically worked to promote ideas of global interconnectedness, world peace and
non alignment. Yet despite efforts to uplift the Third World from its peripheral status, evidence of
Western superiority discourse was still present in the language used by Nehru and other elites.
Furthermore, while elites championed Third World principles in word, they generally remained tied to

History of the Declaration of Independence and The...
In one corner we have a nation, fed up with the corruption and constant bullying of their big brother
nation, seeking the approval of the world for a revolution. In the other corner we have a nation, bent
on gaining the equality among all individuals in their state, coming together to lay down the law to
their king. Both America and France had a thirst for a new equal nation and government in which
power was given to the people and not to a tyrannical figure. Individuals from both of these countries
sat down and wrote up a letter of declaration in demand of the freedom that they so rightfully
deserved. Both of them won that freedom, as the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of
the Rights of Man and of the Citizen flourished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and most prominent argument I have with these two documents is there method in itself.
Both declarations gave direct and justified reasons for a revolution, but the Declaration of
Independence seemed to have taken a passive role. It argued that King George and the British were
wronging them and that America was at their last straw. America was being oppressed and grew tired
of it. The Declaration stated that the British were infringing on their God given rights as humans,
imposing taxes without consent, denying fair trials, as well as many other grievances that attacked the
American colonies. Therefore, with their back against the wall they had to separate themselves from
the British and establish their own government or live their lives in fear forever. In contrast, The
French s Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen took on a more active role. The French
people, also known as the National Assembly, banded together and came up with a list of seventeen
laws that they felt gave power to the people over those of nobility. They felt that the king and the
noble s lack of concern or ignorance of the rights of man was the cause of such a corrupted
government, and that gave them a justified reason for revolt. The Declaration of the Rights of Man
shows more comparison to America s Constitution or Bill of Rights than to the Declaration of
Independence. It stated the rights they were warranted and an obligation for the government to

Before the Civil War, the Constitution gave rights, individual rights, only against the government.
After the Civil War, the 14th Amendment clearly defined national citizenship and prohibited any

Is it not the foundation of a greater or less share of beauty in the two races? Are not the fine mixtures
of red and white, the expressions of every passion by greater or less suffusions of colour in the one,
preferable to that eternal monotony, which reigns in the countenances, that immovable veil of black
which covers all the emotions of the other race? Add to these, flowing hair, a more elegant symmetry
of form, their own judgment in favour o f the whites, declared by their preference o f them, as

(Jefferson 186, italics mine) Reading Jefferson s constructed history in Notes against his lived history
his own liaisons with women not of his own species enters us into the profound rhetorical
contradictions of interracialism in America.
In many cases, the success of the major legal battles during the Civil Rights era depended on the

Killer Whales
Killer Whales: Abused Mistreated While many people have experienced the majestic showcasing of

events that these killer whales go through while in captivity. It is ironic that such family oriented
companies like SeaWorld, who pride themselves in giving families experiences that they will never
forget, can just tear families of killer whales apart and abuse them while training them. And although
these public displays of trained orcas seem extraordinary through the audience s eyes, it is time that
the untold stories of these whales and the true dangers of training whales comes out into light. Killer

In the wild, these whales live between 50 to 80 years. With such a high mortality rate with the
breeding and captivity of these killer whales, big companies like SeaWorld still continue their day to
day operations, to ensure that their revenue never stops increasing. But the captivity of these whales
poses a dangerous threat to the trainers that are hired to perform with the whales. There are only a few
documented deaths and a long list of attacks on trainers that SeaWorld has disclosed from the public.
With the numbers rising on the attacks of trainers by whales, SeaWorld has done everything possible
to cover up the fact that these attacks are happening because of the whales captivity. SeaWorld s
prized killer whale Tilikum, was involved in a death of a trainer, and yet 13 months later was rejoined
with SeaWorld s cast, and has become the most popular killer whale in the show business. It is
extremely unfair and immoral to profit from the mistreatment of animals. Many marine parks and
recreational parks use killer whales as their main attraction, and without the whales the attendance
would drop drastically. That means millions and millions of dollars would be lost in revenue and parks
like SeaWorld would not be able to cash in on it. Therefore, these recreational parks provide
entertainment and allow guests to view the animals up close. But the public rarely

Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches
Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and
inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the
House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four
weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House
of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior
to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian
people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect
Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving
thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to
the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it
would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. Churchill s speech clearly
highlighted the urgent need of winning the war and recalled the disgraceful rescue of the BEF from
France. In the speech, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the case, for there was a successful evacuation of Dunkirk through the stout efforts of the Royal Air

Why Is George Not A Good Friend To Lennie
In life you have good friends and bad friends, which includes many types of friendships. An example of
friendship can be found in John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men . The two main characters
George and Lennie seemed to have a good friendship. After reading and analyzing this novella, I
believe that George overall was not a good friend to Lennie.
George tells Lennie that if he was alone , life would be so easy. How do you tell your friend that?
Then he mentions how if he was alone , he could get a job and work with no trouble. He talks about
Lennie as if he was a bother. George also mentions how he could eat alone at any place he wants, hotel

basically what he could do without Lennie. One key concept and evidence that George is not a good
friend to Lennie is that you do not under any circumstance kill your friend.
In conclusion, I believe that overall in the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck ,George was
not a good friend to Lennie. George did take care of Lennie but,in my point of view, not because he
actually cared for Lennie.George never once mentions how he cares for Lennie or how much he loves
his companionship but does mention how easy life would be without him and if if they were related he
would kill himself .Yes George looked over him and stuck by him but in most cases Lennie would

Demetrio Santanga. His grandfather introduced him to music of the swing era. While being introduced
to this type of music he realized that he wanted to be a singer for music like that. With his grandfathers
support and encouragement, he entered a local contest and won. Once the organizer of the contest,
Beverly Delich discovered that he was under age which defied the contest rules, she disqualified him.
Even though he didn t meet the requirements, Delich was still extremely impressed by his natural

Neanderthal Traits
The evidence that supports that Neanderthals inter bred with Homo sapiens is that of a skeleton that
was found of a young modern child. The skeleton was determined to be that of an early modern
human child, but the skeleton had Neanderthal characteristics as well as modern human
characteristics. It was determined that if this child had Neanderthal traits then Neanderthals were part
of his ancestry. That would mean that Neanderthals inter bred with Homo sapiens. Beyond that there
has been DNA testing of bone fragments that suggest that even though Neanderthals were different
from Homo sapiens they weren t so different that they could not breed with each other. Anatomically
modern humans and Neanderthals were the same.

name of Joshua. Joshua tended to the sheep of his frail father, and looked after his family. He was a

shepherd boys in the village. For his strength, good looks, and physical prowess, he was the pride of

Mentiri and Joshua, hearing the howls getting louder and closer, herded their sheep into a nearby
gulley and prepared themselves to defend their flock. The snarling, hungry pack of wolves suddenly
appeared and circled the entrance to the gulley. They then moved in for the kill. Joshua felt a surge of
bravery in his heart, like no other feeling he d had felt before. He grabbed his pitchfork and stoically
held his ground. He glanced at Mentiri, and to his surprise, saw fear in his eyes and knew he was on
his own. He knew he would get no aid from the larger, stronger man. The largest wolf, who seemed to
be the leader of the pack of seven wolves, sprang at Joshua, its jaws wide open. Joshua blocked the
wolf with his pitchfork, and stabbed him in the throat with his knife. He paused and looked around.
Mentiri was no where to be found, for the pride of the village had fled to a nearby cave and was
cowering in fear. The pack of seven wolves, now six, set upon Joshua with ferocity. He fought back
with equal ferocity, killing them one by one, as they tore at his flesh. The cowering Mentiri could hear

Iowa State Football Essay
Iowa State football hasn t been the talk of Iowa for many years. In fact, I have seen Iowa State fans
getting ready Iowa State basketball in the middle of September. But 2017 has been a diamond in the
rough for the Clones. They have been able to do things this season that haven t been done in a long
time for their program.
To really understand how huge this season has been for Iowa State, you have to look at Iowa State
football since its inception. Iowa State football has been around since 1892, but in their first 124 years
success has been hard to come by. Now it hasn t been all bad, there have been little jolts of success
every now and again. Like when they were invited to bowl games in 1971,72,77,78,2000,01, 02, ...

But a year ago, in that offseason, we weren t putting in the time and effort to make those plays. I think
our kids carried those lessons (into this past offseason).I think we learned so much more sometimes
when things don t go well. I think we were able to couple that with a great offseason, a great summer,
and put it together for what is now fall camp ... there s been great growth, and I m really excited about
the continued growth to sustain success (Goodwin). With this new way of thinking, Matt Campbell is
leading Iowa State to one of its best seasons in history.
With Matt Campbell at the helm, Iowa State is having a season for the ages. They have a winning
record for the first time since 2012, won more than 6 games for the first time since 2009, and are
going to a bowl game for the first time since 2012. They also gotten the help of 2 impressive wins.

The Power Of Rock N Roll Changed Society
The Power of Rock Older generations complain today that music these days just does not compare to
music of the past, that the music we listen to today has no class and makes us rebellious. Ironically
enough, they were told the exact same thing themselves when they were young, along with the
generation before them. Rock N Roll changed the fabric of society for nearly a century, having
evolved from music that was already controversial in itself. As a result, a generation of youth that was
either considered rebellious or showed signs of delinquency or rebellion by riots formed. The entire
world slowly began to feel the impact of Rock N Roll, each nation having their traditions and morals
slowly evolving as a result of the music. Rock N Roll drastically changed society everywhere because
the youth at the time all began to question authority, parents and adults all became conflicted on how
the music would change them and racial integration became more commonly accepted as a result of
the music. Of course, music of any kind has the greatest impact on the youngest of any generation.
Once Rock N Roll became more popular during the evolution of the genre, adolescents began to act in
ways never before seen or expected from adults. A new hive mind mentality started to form among
youth of all ages of 12 and older, with all of the youth dressing the same way that many parents would
not approve of. All of the girls tended to wear tight and revealing skirts and skin tight pants while

Detective Graham Walker s Allegory Of The Cave
At the beginning of the movie, Detective Graham Walker makes a statement and quotes It s the sense
of touch, any real city you walk, you know? You brush by people. People bump into you. In L.A.
nobody touches you. We re always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much
that we crash into each other just so we can feel something (Graham, 2004). When I heard Detective
walker say metal and glass and how we hide behind it. It made me think of Plato s Allegory of the
Cave . Sometimes we hide behind things from fear of leaving our self inflicted boundaries and being
chained like slaves who know no better. However; when we are freed from our chains or crash it

prejudice wife, Peter places a statue of St. Christopher who is a patron of travelers on the dashboard
for protection. His friend makes fun of him for having it. However; Peter s beliefs are that he will be
safe at all times. Through the movie, Peter is seen with the St. Christopher statue. Peter has a belief in
this spiritual Saint because he feels that he will be protected by this object. It is Peter s belief that this
Patron of Saints will protect him from harm. This is Peter s wishful thinking of a higher being
protecting him while he is traveling in a stolen car. His belief is nothing more than an illusion of his
needs. Freud argues that we cannot prove or disprove religious beliefs. St. Christopher is a belief of
Peters that come from an illusion of wishful thinking. These, which profess to be dogmas, are not the

Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare
The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that often
leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare exposes the
conflicting ideas that exist between fate and free will by showing the relationship between Caesar,
Brutus, and their wives, and how the decisions Cassius makes effect his fate. Conflicting ideas existed
between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect him. Fate gives
Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about killing Caesar by
having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First, Portia gives Brutus a
sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their faces even from darkness (II,
i, 905). Brutus decides to ignore Portia s warning about men who hide their faces, which is one of the
events that leads up to Brutus s, and also Portia s suicidal act of [swallowing] hot coals , fated suicide
(Salem Press). Next, Portia reminds Brutus that she is not weak because she is well reputed and a
woman that Brutus saw fit to marry (II, i, 923). Even knowing and being sufficiently reminded that
Portia is not of lesser intelligence than he is; Brutus still continues on with his decision to betray
Caesar. Also, Portia reminds Brutus that he can trust her to help him make the right decision and that
she will not disclose his secrets to others (II, i, 926). Brutus at this

A Member Of The Zygophyllaceae
A member of the Zygophyllaceae (caltrop) family, the creosote bush, Larrea tridentata, belongs to a
flowering plant family of more than 250 members worldwide, many of which are native to desert
regions. Creosote bush is abundant in three of the four North American deserts, i.e. the Mojave, the
Sonoran, and the Chihuahuan Deserts. In the United States, L. tridentata occurs in the states of
Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
Most Agassiz s desert tortoises, Gopherus agassizii, regardless of the specific locality they inhabit, live
in a type of desert biome known as creosote bush scrub. Dominated by the creosote bush, this
ecosystem also features vegetation such as Ambrosia dumosa (white bur sage), Ambrosia salsola ...

While conducting research on desert tortoise burrows, a team of scientists documented 31 species as
commensals (Walde, Walde, Delaney, Pater, 2009). However, it is likely that many more species share
the shelter of the tortoise s burrow.
With the camphor like fragrance of the resinous coating on its leaves that volatilizes when rainfall
occurs, the creosote bush imparts a fresh, pleasant smell of rain to the parched desert ecosystems it
inhabits (Flores, 2013). On the contrary, the pesticide/wood preservative creosote oil is a petroleum
based product that has nothing to do with the desert shrub creosote bush. Creosote oil is a toxic
substance distilled from coal tar and used to preserve railroad crossties, marine and foundation
timbers, and the like.
Identification
A slow growing evergreen shrub with a wide distribution in the North American deserts, L. tridentata
is first and foremost a shelter source, providing shade and cover for numerous desert organisms, both
flora and fauna.
An extremely long lived shrub, each individual plant may live as long as 100 to 200 years. The wild
creosote bush typically reaches a height of 3 to 8 feet (1 to 2.4 meters) with an equal spread.

Stock Split
EFFECTS OF STOCK SPLIT
Introduction
The purpose of this research paper is information retrieval regarding stock split practice in a modern
stock market, its major reasons and valuation effects on the company s financial position.
According to the definition stock split is a method commonly used to lower the market price of a firm
s stock by increasing the number of shares belonging to each shareholder. Companies are able to split
their stocks in any number of ways. The most common stock splits are, 2 for 1, 3 for 2 and 3 for 1. For
example, if you own 100 shares of a company that trades at $100 a share and it declares a 2 for 1 stock
split, you will own a total of 200 shares at $50 a share after the split. It is also possible to have a ...

For example, one year ago a single share of Berkshire Hathaway cost around $101,000 per share and
was the first stock to ever hit a six digit share price. Berkshire Hathaway is not going to split their
stocks and not interesting to make the price more affordable for small investors because these stocks
are not for common people. These stocks are designed for very wealthy investors.
As we can see from Figure 1, through one year the price of Berkshire Hathaway s shares increase for
approximately 48,000 per share.
Figure 1. BRK A, 2007. Thus, in spite of fact that price of these stocks is awfully high, investors still
buy it because it has been increasing from year to year.
Reverse Stock Split
A reverse split reduces the number of outstanding shares and should instantly lift a stock s price. For
example, a stock trading at $1 that is reverse split 1 for 5 should rise to $5 while the company s market
value and underlying fundamentals are unchanged. Investors own fewer shares, but their value stays
the same. So, it really depends on the substance of the stock behind the stock. And it is right that most
reverse splits turn out badly. Most times, a reverse split is done because the shares have fallen down
into the penny stock category (below $5 per share) that threatens their ability to remain listed on an
exchange. Nasdaq requires that a

She was dangerous. She was ready for the kill (O Brien 110). These are the last sentences in The
Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong chapter of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. After reading
this quote it is hard to imagine that they describe a seventeen year old girl, fresh out of high school.
Nonetheless, the description of Mary Anne Bell, a young girl from suburban United States, is accurate.
After traveling over an ocean to be back with her high school sweetheart and Vietnam soldier, Mark

Vietnam soldier experienced and relays the story in a way that is comprehensible to civilians and

insistence on her innocence portray his desire for the others to understand the change he saw in this

Anne. Throughout the entirety of the story, Kiley interjects comments about the transformation Mary
Anne has undergone and how others have experienced the same transformation. For example,
whenever someone questions the details of the story, Kiley would snap. In one instance, Rat defends
Mary Anne s intelligence, but calls her naĂŻve. He says all of them were the same, we were young and

How Different Attitudes and Perceptions Are Shown Between Generations in the Play An Inspector

Older and younger generations perceptions on different aspects of day to day life vary greatly in the

the things they say.
Arthur considers male s the dominant sex, they have to go to work, they have to lay down the laws
and the women stay at home and care for the children and make sure the husbands needs are attended
to. As an employer he knows he has a certain authority and uses this against his employees, overriding
their proposals. His analysis on his status in society is slightly higher than that of the actual situation.
Sybil is the more withdrawn of the two parental figures, she agrees with her husband on most aspects
and although some of her characteristics vary from her husbands she still has a high opinion of herself
and a low opinion of working class citizens.
Sybil dismisses the prospect of war just as her husband does and looks forward to a flourishing future.

Essay about Mexicans Begin Jogging
The irony of Gary Soto Mexicans Begin Jogging Gary s Soto Mexicans Begin Jogging, describes an
event that happened when he worked in a factory where illegal Mexican workers were employed.
Although the poem is simple, Soto brings identity, ironic, drama, and imagery to his audience. The
narrative reflects irony the speaker went through and the dilemma that Mexican Americans go
through. The poems tone is ironic and not taking too seriously. The poem begins explaining to the
reader the story of a Mexican American as he worked in an industrial factory at some point in his life.

like him, mainly Mexicans who come to the United States to strive for something better in life. The
speaker addresses the dilemma of being neither Mexican nor American, of traveling the trajectory
between both nationalities. Because he its color of the skin and lived in a border culture, it was often
assumed that he was not an American. The speaker is a men looking for freedom and a better future,

Professional Athletes Deserve Every Cent Essay
Many major cities generate hundreds of millions of dollars per year in revenue from ticket and

winning a championship. They spend weeks on end away from parents, wives, and children. These
athletes endure injuries far beyond what the average person would. The most healthy, fit, and talented

(Allen) These numbers were based on a deal Antonio Freeman made with the Green Bay Packers.
Galloway s case was that he had put up comparable if not better numbers over the previous four
seasons. Galloway, From 1995 1998 has had 261 receptions, 4122 receiving yards, 36 receiving
touchdowns not including 4 punt returns for touchdowns. Freeman s numbers over the same period of
time were 229, 3706, and 36 TD s respectively. (The Topps Company)
With neither side was willing to bend, the Seahawks and Galloway created an awful situation. The
Seahawks were without their best receiver. Each side of this situation stated they wanted to resolve
this matter but nothing was done. Galloway should be commended for sticking to his game plan. He is
arguably one of the top five receivers in the NFL if not the better and should hold out if he believes he
is not being paid a fair market value. But holding out may have backfired on Galloway.
In Galloway s existing contract there is a clause that states that if Galloway were to hold out the entire
season the Seahawks would have rights to him for 2 more seasons. This means the only way Galloway
can leave after the 1999 season is if the Seahawks were to trade him. Knowing this, and also seeing
how well the team is doing without him through October of 1999. Galloway elected to come back to
the team and end his 102 day holdout. This enables Galloway to become a free agent at the end of the
season and test the market to see

Hydrogen Ions Within A Patients Blood
Acidosis is a condition when the body has too much acid circulating in the body causing the pH of the
body to become too acidic (Wisse, 2013). This will then cause the acid/base balance to tip as the acid
is building up and the base is lost. Since pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 10 and normal blood pH is
kept between 7.35 7.45, minute deviations can cause disruptions throughout many different systems of
the body (McAuley, 1993). A decrease below the recommended 7.35 means that there are too many
hydrogen ions within a patients blood and they cannot be absorbed by the body. PCO2 is the
measurement of partial pressure of carbon dioxide dissolved in arterial blood and helps us understand
how much CO2 gas is floating in the blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this happens there is a low plasma bicarbonate (HCO3 ) concentration due to the loss of storage
or renal tubular wasting and an increase in chloride concentration. Respiratory acidosis on the other
hand develops when a patient has an increased amount of carbon dioxide that cannot be expelled
through regular breathing (Wisse, 2013). Within the classification of metabolic acidosis there are
several sub classifications: Diabetic acidosis, Lactic acidosis, hyperchloremic acidosis and a number
of other contributing causes such as severe dehydration, poisoning: by aspirin, ethylene glycol or
methanol or renal disease/failure (Wisse, 2013).
Diabetic acidosis is due to an increased amount of ketones in the bodies of those suffering from
uncontrolled diabetes. Diabetics rely upon insulin as fuel to run the body and when the body is unable
to use glucose it uses fat. Ketones are the waste that is left after fat is broken down for fuel, they are
acid and when they build up in a diabetic s blood and eventually urine, their kidney s are unable to
dispel it as fast as it is being used (Wisse, 2013). Since ketones are acidic any impairment in removal
of the ketones or continued uncontrollable diabetes will cause the sudden change that could cause life
threatening complications and severe illness.
Lactic acidosis is due to, as

  • 2. Genome Editing Essay Genome editing of germ line cells using CRISPR/Cas9 system Recent studies suggest that genome editing of germ line cells is an effective strategy for mutated gene correction in sperms and oocytes for the inhibition of onset of inherited disorder. The first time, germ line genome editing in human by CRISPR/Cas9 system , was carried out to correct mutation of HBB (Beta globin) gene in zygote of ÎČ thalassemia patients by homologous DNA recombination (HDR) [80, 81]. Embryonic genome editing utilized in the treatment of such monogenic diseases prior to birth is a rational use of embryonic genome editing in germ line cells. Homologous DNA recombination by traditional gene editing techniques in mammalian eggs has a low rate ( 10%) in term of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because PGD usually is carried out by gametes prepared from parents. But parents who is confirmed by PGD to have a high risk of transmition of inherited genetic mutation to their children and want to have their own children, their gametes can be edited directly by Crisper/cas9 to create healthy children.Nowdays germ line genome editing by programmable nuclease such as Crisper/cas9 is the most useful tool to treat genetic diseases with high risk of inheritance mutation transmition. Unresolved ethical problems still exist and are the main reason for delay onset of clinical trials in this field. Large animal models can be utilized for a variety of monogenic diseases, particularly monogenic neurological disorders like HD and Duchene muscular dystrophy) DMD (. Specificity, efficacy, and side effects of germ line genome editing technology should be assessed by animal models before entering clinical trials. Generating mammalian models of neurodegenerative diseases using CRISPR/Cas9 Cas9 has been well studied. It belongs to the class II CRISPR/Cas system which is the main protein involved in small interfering CRISPR RNA (crRNA). CRISPR RNA often leads to the silencing of invader viruses and plasmids [72, 85]. Several in vitro surveys have shown that Cas9 is guided by gRNA composed of chimeric RNA. Chimeric RNA is composed of crRNA and tracrRNA. They are sufficient to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of The VA Scandal The VA Scandal The Veterans Affairs program was originated to aid Veterans by providing them with top of the line benefits and care. The United States Veteran Affairs operates the nation s largest health care system to support a single group of Americans. They offer many amenities with hospitals, clinics, community living centers, and much more. The Veterans Affairs office offers assistance to current military personnel, Veterans, their dependents and survivors. On April of 2014, a scandal surrounding the Veterans Affairs scandal went viral. The publicity started when there were cases where forty United States veterans died while awaiting treatment in Phoenix, Arizona due to fraudulent actions, systematic scheduling, along with delay of treatments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government s response to these discoveries was summed up with president Obama s statement, We will not stand for substandard care for our veterans (Zezima1). Today, the Veteran s Affairs program remains under audit and under criminal investigations. Although these audits and investigations are looking to target the problems and improve the program, this could take years due to the complexity of the program itself. So in theory are these actions hindering the system currently? These audits and investigations have already made some improvements within the system. They have pinned down the issue and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, has taken responsibility for the confirmed allegations of long wait times and false record keeping (Zezimer,1), but can we really contribute this whole scandal to one person? Of course not, it took the effort of many to be able to falsify records. Even though Shinseki resigned that does not fix the problem. There will have to be an extreme clearing in the system to rid the problem. As a matter of fact, the investigations and audit could be making it more difficult for the veterans. The investigations call for many changes, which could draw out the process of getting into the clinics and receiving benefits. So although the audits will help in the long run, they are hindering in the present. Another thing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Young Offenders Program Analysis Introduction The Ministry of the Third Cross derived from the Young Offenders Program, which was organized in 1997. The Young Offenders Program was a retreat offered for young, high risk male felony probationers in Bexar Country Department and Corrections. This program was created for the probationers rehabilitation plan. Their objective was to decrease recidivism and to rehabilitate the offender. Today it is recognized as a state program. The Ministry of the Third Cross now offers retreats for both men and women. These retreats are held on the weekend, where attendees are able to connect with their inner spirit and the love of Jesus Christ. The retreat is surrounded by a supportive and community friendly environment that assures attendees receive the best experience as possible. The three R s , which are reflection, repentance, and renewal, are what attendees focus on during these retreats. Judges have been known to offer this as an alternative for individuals as a part of their community service. Then there is a separate program for individuals who have recently been paroled. • 7. Hamlet Madness In Hamlet When reading Shakespeare s Hamlet as a class, the first thing that most teachers or professors point out is the argument/idea of sanity, specifically Hamlet s sanity. I believe that Hamlet is, in fact, feigning his madness. What I do not know is if I believe this because it is what I was taught or if I came up with the idea myself based on my own interpretation. When I was taught Hamlet there was no argument it was just fact that he was faking his madness. Because of my confusion, I came to find that it may be interesting take out of the play any moment in which Hamlet makes the audience aware that he is only pretending that to be mad. I want to take out any proof that his madness isn t real. The argument for legitimate madness is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In choosing to believe the ghost, he decides that he must seek revenge on his father s murderer and will allow nothing to get in his way. From this moment on, Hamlet heads in a downward spiral and we can track him losing his mind if we just erase the lines that express his plan to act like his is doing so. These cuts begin from the moment when Hamlet says that he is going To put an antic disposition on (Act I Scene V). Taking out this one line could change the play entirely. Most of the lines in which he speaks of this part of his revenge plot following his original declaration of it are moments in which he is attempting to explain that he isn t actually insane. By removing this one, small line we effectively make it easier to argue that his madness isn t a part of his plot but it is an actual part of him. Without having concrete proof before the madness starts that it is, in fact, planned how are we as an audience supposed to trust him? Removing this line makes it so that the readers, and the other characters, are entirely unaware of this part of his plan. He acts mad for a while before he mentions again that this is his plan. The next time Hamlet discloses the part of his revenge plan is when he is speaking to Guildenstern in Act II Scene II, and tells him that his uncle father and aunt mother are deceived and then clarifies ... • 9. Do Intelligence Research On Was Psychopaths, Particularly... Question 1: The group of people that I chose to do intelligence research on was psychopaths, particularly serial killers. I did not focus on any particular subgroup, however there are subtypes of psychopaths such as primary and secondary and among those two subtypes it is further broken down into distempered and charismatic subtypes. In the article Psychopathy: Manipulation, Deception, and Evil, author Pamela Kulbarsh (2012) defines a psychopath as a morally depraved individual who represent the monsters in our society; an unstoppable and untreatable predator whose violence is planned, purposeful and emotionless (p.1). While in the article it states that not all psychopaths are law breakers that is a different story with serial killers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One other thing that makes serial killers unique is using their working memory to plan out extensive details in committing a murder. It takes quite a bit of intelligence to plan out a detailed murder and name step by step what they will do and what their back up plan will be if something does go wrong. The average person cannot plan out their day step by step very thoroughly much less committing a crime and getting away with it. Genetics do play a part in psychopathic tendencies, but also the environment you grow up in and what you are exposed to plays a role in it as well. For example, Ted Bundy. Crime Feed Staff (2015) discovered many troubling details about the way he grew up. He lived a childhood full of lies. He grew up thinking that his birth mother was his sister and that his grandparents were his parents only later to learn that his sister was actually his mother and that his grandfather was possibly his father making him a product of incest. There were many things that Bundy did as a child that showed his strange attraction to violence (p.1). Bundy was exposed to pornography as a young age and became addicted, he needed to fuel his addiction and his fantasies became so unbearable he turned it into his reality. Dr. Al Carlisle, the psychologist who evaluated Ted Bundy, concluded that Because they have painful memories from abuse, disappointment, humiliation, frustration, or being bullied, they have turned to fantasies ... • 10. The World Of The Third World The Third World as a political project emerged out of Cold War rhetoric. It referred to a group of non aligned countries that claimed to operate separately from the influences of the great powers. The movement represented the emergence of the Third World as a self conscious political grouping. Solidarity was predicated upon common economic structures that were distinctive from both the Eastern block planned economies and the Western free market system (Smith, n.d: 17). The Third World as a political project was intrinsically linked to decolonization. Developing nations were encouraged to stand against Western intervention and involvement in the economic affairs of the Third World (Smith, n.d: 17). In addition, the project aimed to establish a new international economic order in which developing countries would have greater control over their own natural resources (Smith, n.d: 18). It also called for more cooperation in the third world in order to lessen their dependence on leading institutional forums. As one of the most influential proponents of the Third World Project, Jawaharlal Nehru specifically worked to promote ideas of global interconnectedness, world peace and non alignment. Yet despite efforts to uplift the Third World from its peripheral status, evidence of Western superiority discourse was still present in the language used by Nehru and other elites. Furthermore, while elites championed Third World principles in word, they generally remained tied to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. History of the Declaration of Independence and The... In one corner we have a nation, fed up with the corruption and constant bullying of their big brother nation, seeking the approval of the world for a revolution. In the other corner we have a nation, bent on gaining the equality among all individuals in their state, coming together to lay down the law to their king. Both America and France had a thirst for a new equal nation and government in which power was given to the people and not to a tyrannical figure. Individuals from both of these countries sat down and wrote up a letter of declaration in demand of the freedom that they so rightfully deserved. Both of them won that freedom, as the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen flourished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and most prominent argument I have with these two documents is there method in itself. Both declarations gave direct and justified reasons for a revolution, but the Declaration of Independence seemed to have taken a passive role. It argued that King George and the British were wronging them and that America was at their last straw. America was being oppressed and grew tired of it. The Declaration stated that the British were infringing on their God given rights as humans, imposing taxes without consent, denying fair trials, as well as many other grievances that attacked the American colonies. Therefore, with their back against the wall they had to separate themselves from the British and establish their own government or live their lives in fear forever. In contrast, The French s Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen took on a more active role. The French people, also known as the National Assembly, banded together and came up with a list of seventeen laws that they felt gave power to the people over those of nobility. They felt that the king and the noble s lack of concern or ignorance of the rights of man was the cause of such a corrupted government, and that gave them a justified reason for revolt. The Declaration of the Rights of Man shows more comparison to America s Constitution or Bill of Rights than to the Declaration of Independence. It stated the rights they were warranted and an obligation for the government to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

America s Miscegenation Anxiety And The State Of Virginia Even through contradictory politics and the use of religion as justification in the formation and adherence to these segregation laws, the resolve of individuals have collectively played a tremendous role in racial equality in all facets of life. Before the Civil War, the Constitution gave rights, individual rights, only against the government. After the Civil War, the 14th Amendment clearly defined national citizenship and prohibited any single state to deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law, to deny any citizen the privileges and immunities of citizenship, or to deny any person the equal protection of the laws. Is it not the foundation of a greater or less share of beauty in the two races? Are not the fine mixtures of red and white, the expressions of every passion by greater or less suffusions of colour in the one, preferable to that eternal monotony, which reigns in the countenances, that immovable veil of black which covers all the emotions of the other race? Add to these, flowing hair, a more elegant symmetry of form, their own judgment in favour o f the whites, declared by their preference o f them, as uniformly as is the preference o f the Oran ootan for the black women over those o f his own species. (Jefferson 186, italics mine) Reading Jefferson s constructed history in Notes against his lived history his own liaisons with women not of his own species enters us into the profound rhetorical contradictions of interracialism in America. In many cases, the success of the major legal battles during the Civil Rights era depended on the effort, courage, and tenacity of individuals. Killer Whales Killer Whales: Abused Mistreated While many people have experienced the majestic showcasing of trained orcas in public displays at recreational parks such as SeaWorld, few have heard of the tragic events that these killer whales go through while in captivity. It is ironic that such family oriented companies like SeaWorld, who pride themselves in giving families experiences that they will never forget, can just tear families of killer whales apart and abuse them while training them. And although these public displays of trained orcas seem extraordinary through the audience s eyes, it is time that the untold stories of these whales and the true dangers of training whales comes out into light. Killer whales are the most intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the wild, these whales live between 50 to 80 years. With such a high mortality rate with the breeding and captivity of these killer whales, big companies like SeaWorld still continue their day to day operations, to ensure that their revenue never stops increasing. But the captivity of these whales poses a dangerous threat to the trainers that are hired to perform with the whales. There are only a few documented deaths and a long list of attacks on trainers that SeaWorld has disclosed from the public. With the numbers rising on the attacks of trainers by whales, SeaWorld has done everything possible to cover up the fact that these attacks are happening because of the whales captivity. SeaWorld s prized killer whale Tilikum, was involved in a death of a trainer, and yet 13 months later was rejoined with SeaWorld s cast, and has become the most popular killer whale in the show business. It is extremely unfair and immoral to profit from the mistreatment of animals. Many marine parks and recreational parks use killer whales as their main attraction, and without the whales the attendance would drop drastically. That means millions and millions of dollars would be lost in revenue and parks like SeaWorld would not be able to cash in on it. Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight On The Beaches Winston Churchill s We Shall Fight on the Beaches speech is arguably one of the most memorable and inspirational speeches by a top leader in the Second World War. Churchill delivered the speech to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on June 4, 1940, approximately four weeks after he was made prime minister of Great Britain. The speech itself was a report for the House of Commons on how the warfront proceeded, regarding all aspects of the British armed forces. Prior to the speech, Britain had suffered a major military loss in France and Belgium, after assisting Belgian people to defend their country from German intrusion. Unfortunately, the British s attempt to protect Belgium was unsuccessful as King Leopold of Belgium later surrendered to Nazi Germany, leaving thousands of French and British soldiers stranded at the harbour of Dunkirk in northern France. Due to the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) having to be rescued from France, Churchill believed that it would be a perfect time to broadcast the inspirational speech to his people. The battle of Dunkirk was considered to be a significant loss as Churchill presumed perhaps 20,000 or 30,000 men might be re embarked. Why Is George Not A Good Friend To Lennie In life you have good friends and bad friends, which includes many types of friendships. An example of friendship can be found in John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men . The two main characters George and Lennie seemed to have a good friendship. After reading and analyzing this novella, I believe that George overall was not a good friend to Lennie. George tells Lennie that if he was alone , life would be so easy. How do you tell your friend that? Then he mentions how if he was alone , he could get a job and work with no trouble. In conclusion, I believe that overall in the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck ,George was not a good friend to Lennie. The Power Of Rock N Roll Changed Society The Power of Rock Older generations complain today that music these days just does not compare to music of the past, that the music we listen to today has no class and makes us rebellious. Ironically enough, they were told the exact same thing themselves when they were young, along with the generation before them. Rock N Roll changed the fabric of society for nearly a century, having evolved from music that was already controversial in itself. As a result, a generation of youth that was either considered rebellious or showed signs of delinquency or rebellion by riots formed. The entire world slowly began to feel the impact of Rock N Roll, each nation having their traditions and morals slowly evolving as a result of the music. Rock N Roll drastically changed society everywhere because the youth at the time all began to question authority, parents and adults all became conflicted on how the music would change them and racial integration became more commonly accepted as a result of the music. Of course, music of any kind has the greatest impact on the youngest of any generation. Once Rock N Roll became more popular during the evolution of the genre, adolescents began to act in ways never before seen or expected from adults. Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that often leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Conflicting ideas existed between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect him. Fate gives Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about killing Caesar by having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First, Portia gives Brutus a sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their faces even from darkness (II, i, 905). Brutus decides to ignore Portia s warning about men who hide their faces, which is one of the events that leads up to Brutus s, and also Portia s suicidal act of [swallowing] hot coals , fated suicide (Salem Press). This will then cause the acid/base balance to tip as the acid is building up and the base is lost. Since pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 10 and normal blood pH is kept between 7.35 7.45, minute deviations can cause disruptions throughout many different systems of the body (McAuley, 1993).
