The Importance Of Underage Drinking
There are those milestone ages that everyone is anxious to reach. We can t wait to be 13 because
we re finally considered teenagers. We can t wait to turn 16 so we can finally slide behind the
steering wheel and drive on our own for the first time, a big step on the way to adulthood and
independence. We can t wait to turn 18 because we re finally considered adults, can vote, and
even enlist in the military in order to serve our country if we choose. Finally, and most importantly
it seems, we can t wait to turn 21 so that we can legally drink alcohol. In fact, it seems that some
teens are so anxious about that last step to adulthood that some don t even wait until the legal
drinking ageto consume alcohol. This has resulted in underage drinking

Summary Question:
Restate each of the Hardy Weinberg conditions. Under each, elaborate by explaining each in
greater detail. Define the term and explain what each is and how it is important. Also explain how
each may be violated in nature and how often you think that the condition may be violated. An
example for the first condition is given below.
1. No Mutations: Mutations refer to a changes in the DNA code. Mutations occur regularly, are the
source of variation of traits in a species, and are called the raw material upon which natural
selection acts and can lead to evolutionary change in phenotype. Mutations of the DNA mean that
the Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and/or Cytosine changes. Changes can be deletions, substitutions,
or inversions. Most mutations would be disadvantageous, but can also be advantageous. Variation
of phenotype in a population allows a species to survive in a changing environment.

Compensation Systems Compensation systems can take on many forms, all of which have
positives and negatives related to it. However, certain components are noted to be determinants of
solid compensation plans. One agreement of a solid compensation system is the use of incentives.
Clearly a successful companies set objectives that will provide incentives to increase profitability
(Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Incentive bonuses should be measures that the company finds
important to long term growth. According to Needles amp; Powers (2011) the most successful
companies long term focused on profitability measures. For large for profit firms, compensation
programs should offer stock options. The interweaving between the market value of a company s
stock and company s performance both motivate and increase compensation to employees As the
market value of the stock goes up, the difference between the option price and the market price
grows, which increases the amount of compensation (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Conclusively,
a compensation plan should serve all stakeholders, be simple, group employees properly, reflect
company culture and values, and be flexible (Davis amp; Hardy, 1999; The Basics of a
Compensation Program).
Four compensation models are laid out by the Bangor Family Physician case study. These models
include: (1) revenue model; (2) net income model; (3) base salary plus

Surveillance And The Threat Of Terrorism
Surveillance
Over the decades, as technology advanced, surveillance became easier and easier. In the 21st
century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected,
saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over
someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving
face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging
in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does
surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the
streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals,
meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because
the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The
4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance
challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and
security of citizens from terrorism and crime. The main purpose of surveillance systems is to
monitor events from a remote or secret location. The capabilities of domestic surveillance expanded
rapidly in recent years due to the equally rapid spread of new technologies that facilitate information
gathering. However, many of the

The Controversy Over Gay Parent Adoption
Gay Parent Adoptions
Many states laws deny children in foster care, healthy, loving homes simply because of a
potential parent s sexual orientation (Gray, 2006), The catholic church as well as other
organization s oppose gay adoption based upon religious teachings, while others debate the
legality of it (Gray, 2006). In today s society, many children grow up to be emotionally stable and
successful whether they have a heterosexual couple as parents or a same sex couple as parents.
Gay parent adoptions are an equal right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally
stable as heterosexual adoptions.
Adoption Process
Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using
drugs or alcohol. Children s Services are called in to remove the children from the home and are
placed into foster care. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to
complete counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State.
If, after these two years the biological parent has not been successful in their program, the State
maintains custody of the children and the children are then legally up for adoption. All prospective
adoptive parents must complete a home study (parenting classes) to verify their competency. Once
completed, the parents search for their adoptive child.
Local and state governments play an important role in gay parent adoptions. Two states, Mississippi
and Utah,

Morality in The Heart of Darkness
I trust I shall be forgiven the discovery that all moral philosophy hitherto was boring and belonged
among the soporifics (Nietzsche 561). Maybe so, but the issue of moral philosophy has been
discussed though out time and provides a significant element in Conrad s story Heart of Darkness.
In general, the timeless discussion traces back to the first philosophical writings of Plato and
transcends from general religious grounds to general applications and codes of behavior espoused
by Kant and Mills. These individuals and lines of thought try to establish a good code of behavior
based on something: a benevolent god, extensible codes similar to The Golden Rule, or even

His argument is basically this: if God is omnibenelovent, omniscient and omnipotent then either
evil does not exist, or, if it does, it is not really evil. Milton lays the groundwork definitions,
aligning the parties in his illustrative argument early. If then his providence / Out of our evil to
bring forth good, Our labor must be to pervert that end, / and out of good still to find means of
evil (Milton I: 162 165). The word his refers to God and relates the word good with him, and
relates Satan to the word evil . The justifications for these labels are more implied than anything
else, based in the relationship of the Christian God, and thus the Bible and the actions and
motivations displayed by Satan. He becomes tied to ... deep malice to conceal, couched with
revenge (Milton IV: 123) and ... ire envy and despair (Milton IV: 115). Thus, good is implicitly the
opposite of that: kindness with forgiveness, pleasure and joy. Milton s argument follows a path of
self discovery, illustrates a sympathetic character and describes his internal conflict and resulting
horror of his situation. Mainly that he cannot ask for forgiveness and is thus locked into downward
spiral between the reality of the situation, the expectations of his cohorts, and his own personal
motivations. In the end, his actions

Persuasive Essay On Bioprinting
Bioengineering has been a growing field over the past few years. The new advances and
research that result from bioengineer can solve problems deemed impossible before. Engineers
have been working on new technology that utilizes stem cells to treat disease and save lives.
The stem cells used in treatment are called embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are
formed from five day old human embryos. The usage of embryonic stem cells has caused
controversy from pro life advocates who believe embryos to be a human life; and the use of
embryonic stem cells immoral. Despite the beliefs of pro life advocates who consider the use of
stem cells murder, the usage of stem cells for medical and scientific research and advancements is

Architectural professional practice is a relatively regional field in which architects conduct their
comprehensive manner in a specific localized territory. Due to the current fact that more and more
American architects practice in China, it is not an easy time for them to interact or communicate
with remote brains on the other side of earth. The different cultural and social backgrounds have
become the source of misunderstanding and problems in the process of cooperation, which may
lead to unfavorable consequences. As a Chinese architectural student who has studied in America
and worked in local projects for the U.S. architectural firm, I have experienced many differences
between the two sides. My instructor and professor in the Graduate School of Architecture,

Socrates’ Speech in Apology
Aristophanes Clouds, if read hastily, can be interpreted as a mindless satyr play written in 419
BCE. Yet the chorus warns the reader not to expect the play to have farcical ploys like a hanging
phallus stitched on the actors to evoke a laugh, but has underlying seriousness as she [the play]
comes in trusting only her words (Clouds 538 44). Even if the play does use some low devices, the
play s message is sophisticated and can be read as a warning to Socrates. Aristophanes is a friendly
critic of Socrates and warns Socrates to change his ways for Athens and for the good of himself
(Whidden). Platos Symposium and especially his Apology of Socrates justify the claims made in
Clouds about the dangers of philosophy and Socrates to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are referred to as a voice that Socrates hears, not unlike a conscience, that turns me
[Socrates] away from whatever I am about to do, but never turns me forward (Apology 31d).
Socrates uses that as the reason why he never got into politics, as the majority rule is usually
against his own code of morals (31d). Socrates is not exactly godless or immoral for he would
not condemn a group of prisoners without trying them separately. His whole care is to commit no
unjust or impious deed (32d). Socrates may have moral standards, but perhaps his followers would
not. This leads into the charge that he corrupts the youth, for if Socrates can question the gods, they
can too. Athenians acted out of fear of heavenly retribution, not morals (Whidden). Those youth
found it acceptable to do whatever they wanted because of the apparent lack of gods and
thunderbolts coming down from the heavens to smite those who deserve justice. Clouds Socrates
argues, If in fact he [Zeus] strikes perjurers, then how is it that he did not burn up Simon, or
Cleonymus or Theorus? Yet they are vehement perjurers. But he strikes his own temple and
Sunium, the cape of Athens, and tall oak trees. Why? (Clouds 398 402).
Those youths have mimicked Socrates style of rhetoric and argument. Pheidippides is an extreme
satiric version of these sophists, as he uses the weaker speech to justify why he has beaten his
father and why he

Anne Sexton Woman
I have been her kind. (Sexton, lines 1 7)
Here, Sexton is not meaning that she has literally been a witch, but she empathizes with the
persecuted women of earlier centuries. When Sexton states that she is braver at night and that she
has done her hitch/over the plain houses, she is verbally expressing that the tenebrosity is her
only escape from the judging ocular perceivers of people who lead impeccable, conventional lives
in suburbia. (Sexton, lines 3 4). The orator kens what it is relish to be the isolated witch who does
not fit the typical woman s mold, and who is a lonely thing that is cast out of society for not fitting
in. (Sexton, line 5). By saying that a woman like that is not a woman, quite, she is exhibiting that
people view women who are non conformist as flawed and not even as legitimate women. In the
second stanza, Sexton goes on to say that the speaker has: Found the warm caves in the woods,
Filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves,
Closets, silks, innumerable goods;
Fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves:
Whining, rearranging the disaligned.
A woman like that is misunderstood.

She seems to be unhappy with the long established, traditional image of a woman: One who fixes
the suppers for her family, rearranges the misaligned in her domicile, and who is whiny and
repining (Sexton, lines 11 13). In the same way that the witch is isolated because of the stigmas
annexed to her lifestyle, Sexton is verbalizing that a housewife can be solitary and misunderstood
as well because of the isolation that emanates from her subordinate role in society. Just as the witch
or outcast is misconstrue as malevolent or manipulating, the housewife can be misread as a

The Counterculture Of The 1960s
The 1960s brought about enormous change, popular trends, and in some cases great success.
This decade has been remarked as the transition era. ( The 1960s: Fashion: Overview. ) Pop
culture is the popular opinion on things by ordinary people . Popular culture can easily affect a
society as seen in the 1960s. The 1960s brought about change in fashion and some societal norms.
These fashion changes include, straighter dresses, bolder styles, and bell bottom jeans. ( 1960s:
Fashion. )
The popular culture of the 1960s influenced the brains of the young and helped make the sixties
such a remarkable era. One of these crucial trends would include the infamous hippie movement
that in effect, sparked a music and societal breakthrough. Another societal trend that would come
out of the sixties was the use of birth control and the new popularity and use of drugs. ( The
1960s: Lifestyles and Social Trends: Overview. ) The British Invasion, which officially started on
February 7, 1964, excited mass hysteria over the arrival of several British rock musicians. Other
musical breakthroughs included the implication of festivals, new innovative music genres, and
ground breaking artists. The 1960s created a new and free United States after the going through the
1950s. Many factors such as the baby boomer generation and the politics of the time helped put the
1960s pop culture on a new and totally different direction from what was previously seen. The

Reflective Essay
Introspection is an important activity that adults should take time to do. I find myself thinking
more about the world and others than I do about myself. This activity is beneficial as it helped
me do some self reflection prior to taking any assessments to confirm or reveal who I am. I think
of myself as a hands on learner. I like to process information in pieces because I like to analyze
one puzzle piece at a time so that I can have a better understanding of the big picture. My
temperament at work and home are slightly different. At work I am more patient and diplomatic.
I think that my emotional intelligence is higher than those around me. In my personal life, I find
that I am less gracious towards those around me. Perhaps it s because I expect much more from
family than co workers or direct reports. My leadership style is participative. I really enjoy
collaborating with others and including direct reports in the decision making process as they add
value to the decisions made. At the same time I know that if I am passionate about something, I
will dig my heels deep and help others understand why the course of action I am recommending is
the best one. I like to communicate in person. There is something significant about face to face
communication. However, email is necessary for sharing detailed information such as system
processes or policy changes. I thoroughly enjoy developing others and helping them achieve their
goals. The two required instruments: Myers Briggs

The Size Of An Organism
AC 2.1
1) When the size of an organism increases its surface area also increases.
2) When the size of an organism increases its volume also increases.
3) As the size of an organism increases both its surface area and volume increase however the
surface area to volume ratio decreases. This is because the volume increases at a greater rate than
the surface area. Organisms with a smaller surface area to volume ratio can exchange substance
more easily compared with bigger organisms, which require more specialised systems. Having a
large surface are to volume ratio enables the organism to heat up more quickly however they do not
retain the heat compared with organisms with a small surface area.
4) Bacteria and Amoeba
Small organisms such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacteria have adapted to digest large micro nutrients by secreting enzymes that break down micro
nutrients, for example the enzymes break down proteins into amino acids so that they can be
absorbed into the cell.
Amoebas are larger than bacteria and are approximately 100Вµm in diameter but still have a
relatively large surface area to volume ratio. Amoebas, unlike bacteria, do not secrete enzymes
externally to digest food, instead they extend their cytoplasm and around the nutrients and then
break it down within the cell. Figure 1 shows the nutrition of an amoeba. Figure 1
Microorganisms can heat up quickly but cannot retain heat well compared with larger organisms.
This is because they have large surface area to volume ratio, so heat escapes easily.
Flies
Larger organisms have adapted to overcome limitations what occur in more simpler organisms,
by developing more complex systems to exchange substances and retain heat. Multicellular
organisms rely on many different cells that are specialised to perform different tasks, however
they all work together in order for the organism to function. When cells are produced they have
the potential to specialise as any type of cell for example a nerve cell or tissue cell depending on
the requirements of the organism. This process is called cell differentiation and enables organisms
to have more complex systems.

Mud Blindness
Method
Participants
We recruited 18 undergraduate students from a California State University using general class
announcements and one campus posting. Participants were offered academic credit or extra credit
for participating. There were 3 men and 15 women with ages that ranged from 20 27, (M = 22.89,
SD = 1.84).
Materials
We used the mud splash paradigm to examine change blindness. Each trial consisted of two
Microsoft PowerPoint images. The first image was of a natural scene and almost identical to the
second image, but a small object was removed from the central area of the scene in the changed
image. Additionally the changed image was nmasked with several high contrast mud splash s,
similar to previous research studies that have used the mud splash paradigm (O Regan et al.,
1999), and covered 10%, 20%,, or 40% of the scene. Using Microsoft PowerPoint ... Show more

This may have yielded better results, but only when combined with the audio shadowing task.
These results indicated a floor effect because of the insensitive levels of mud splash and the
interaction only at the 40% mud splash level. Future research using this design should include
sensitive levels with the minimum level of mud splash distraction to 40% and increase the range
of conditions (Rensink et al., 1997). The results were similar on a multi modal study where
participants completed a verbal counting task at the same time as a visual search task. Only when
the task became cognitively demanding a significant difference was observed, (Most, 2005). The
perception of change in a scene requires a person to have attended to relevant stimuli and encoded
the information into working memory. Moreover visual change detection occurs when a person has
given attention to something. Yet change blindness occurs because attention had failed to encode
the necessary information for change detection to occur (Rensink, et al.,

Fifa Of The World Cup
You are in the World Cup. Its the biggest sporting event in the world. You are representing your
country, and the fans are cheering you. The game starts and right away you can tell it s going to
be a rough game. The referee starts calling everything against you and nothing for you. There isn t
anything you can do. You will for sure lose the game. Soccer is a very great sport but, it has FIFA
corruption, illegal transfers, and fixed matches.
FIFA corruption happens because of the desire of money. FIFA original mission was to support
the growth and spread of soccer. They try to achieve this by hosting competitions at all levels
and ages. Fifa promotes soccer through campaigns against discrimination in the lines of race,
politics, and religion. ( What is FIFA? ) For the most part they have been very good at the spread
and growth of soccer. One way they helped spread soccer is letting different countries host the
World Cup. After letting Africa and America host it, soccer was growing very fast around the
world. They have done pretty good in the discrimination part because they usually ban a player or
fan if they are found discriminating against someone.
Although they do these really great things sometimes FIFA will go against their mission and be
corrupt. For example, In May the US indicted 14 current and former Fifa officials and associates
on charges of rampant, systemic, and deep rooted corruption. Another of fifa being corrupt is on
December, 16 officials were charged

Britain s Political And Religious Structure During The...
Between the years 1529 1588 and in the Tudor era, Britain saw perhaps the biggest changes in its
political and religious structure in its history. It changed from Catholicism to Protestantism, then
back and back again. It also saw major changes in who ran the country, with more involvement
from parliament. Different chief ministers (including Thomas Cromwell) had different impacts
on Britain and the monarch, and the influence of them will be assessed in this essay. Thomas
Wolsey was born in 1475, and rose his way the top. Before being made a cardinal, he became a
priest and a successful politician, and he was the almoner (in charge of distributing funds to the
poor) when Henry came to the throne in 1509. Wolsey held several important positions. He was
the Bishop of Lincoln, Canon of Windsor and also Prince Bishop of Durham. One
accomplishment that Wolsey is particularly remembered for, is organising the Field of The Cloth
Of Gold. This was a festival planned to celebrate the alliance between England and France, with
both monarchs, Henry VIII and Francis I strengthening their relationship. The treaty of London was
also a huge accomplishment for Wolsey, as he was the one who designed the 1518 treaty. It was a
non aggression pact between the major European nations, (France, England, Holy Roman Empire,
the Papacy, Spain, Burgundy and the Netherlands), all of whom agreed not to attack one another
and come to aid if needed. Though it was not always successful in stopping some

The War During The Cold War Essay
As the Second World War came to a close and American and Soviet forces marched into German
territory, both states understood that shortly thereafter their common foe would be defeated and
their relationship very well could deteriorate. Even prior to the United States entrance into the war,
media companies and state officials themselves spoke out against the evils of communism, though
that rhetoric was put on hold as the Soviet Unionand America fought alongside one another against
the Axis powers. As Rider points out, while the U.S. propaganda apparatus was almost totally
dismantled at the war s end, Truman still wanted to ensure that other peoples receive[d] a full and
fair picture of American life, which became the basis for the substantial psychological war both the
Soviets and Americans engaged in throughout the Cold War. While a considerable amount of
attention in historical academia has been given to the proxy wars, space race, and arms build up
both states took part in, parallel to said competitions were those at the Olympics. Rider did an
excellent job of exploring the role of sports, athletes, and particularly the media in the propagandist
battle both states waged, discussing the numerous individuals, various committees, and notable
confrontations between the USSR and the USA in the realm of sports. Propaganda had long been a
tool that governments and private institutions alike used to promote images, either to paint
themselves in a positive light or to

The American Of Latin America
In the 1920s and 1930s intellectuals and statesmen in Latin America began to adopt ideologies of
race mixture in an effort to advance nation building projects based on notions of inclusion and
racial equality. These notions which where said to promote racial inclusivity included mestizaje.
The ideology of mestizaje often times enabled exclusion through racial terms and marginalization.
In order to grasp how such an ideology has created a paradoxical and contradictory outcome
politically, economically, and socially for black communities in Latin Americaone must draw from
real world examples. Two examples of Latin American countries that have experienced
marginalization of their black communities are Columbia and Mexico. Before one can enter a
conversation on the process through which black communities are marginalized in Latin America it
is essential to define a few terms. First one must define what Latin America encompasses. Latin
America s dictionary definition is that it is the part of the American Continents South of the United
Statesin which Spanish, Portuguese, or French is officially spoken. However, Latin America also
has an ideological meaning that was defined in lecture by Professor Campos as as an idea thus
signified a restoration of western civilization in the Americas. The next term that one must define is
mestizaje is ideologies of national identity that celebrated race mixture as an important component
of regional and national culture. Race is a way to

Before his transition into fine arts, Berke educated himself in languages, later studying philosophy,

education under the painter Fritz Burmann at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berke left Königsberg for

oscillating between Informel paintingand the modernist traditions from cubism and abstraction, to

In 2014, he decided to take on Erislandy Lara against his team s wishes and common sense. Lara
was a skilled boxer that was feared by most people in the junior middleweight division, but
Alvarez decided to take him on to prove he wasn t afraid to take a step up in competition.
As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close
fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning
a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was
robbed. Yes, there was the ridiculous 117 111 score, but the fight was close enough for Alvarez to
get the nod. Nevertheless, the boxing community couldn t come to grips with the fact that a close
fight doesn t equal a robbery, so Alvarez didn t get the amount of praise Golovkin got in his recent

The weirdest part of all of this is how the networks and media treat Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez is

though the groups were led by different people they both wanted to produce the same outcome,
unison. The signature synchronization became a potent image of Weimar visual culture

a result the choreographic elements were inspired by the creation of factories. Fosse s
choreography was inspired by these events as he adhered strict machine like formations of

Another survey on psychedelic drugs and spirituality was conducted by Michael Lyvers and Molly
Meester in the article, Illicit use of LSD They knew that LSD and Psilocybin had a history in
helping people experience religious, or spiritual revelations, and wanted to examine this
phenomenon (Lyvers, Meester 410). To do so, Lyvers conducted a survey amongst 337 drug
users. The results were related to Lerners and Moro s results. Michael Lyvers found that over a
quarter of the people who responded used psychedelic drugs in hopes of having a spiritual, or
religious experience. Lyver s results also suggested that psychedelic drug users value spirituality
more than non psychedelic drug users. Even though psychedelic drug used has died down since
the 1960s, LSD and psilocybin are still associated with religious and spiritual experiences
(Lyvers, Meester 415). The results from all three of the surveys suggested that psychedelic drug
users have a stronger spiritual connection than others. However, this does not mean that non
psychedelic users can t have spiritual or religious experiences. These three surveys help prove
that psychedelic drugs are still used to this day in order to improve spiritual and religious
experiences. Timothy Leary is a prime example of a person who s perceptions on religion and
spirituality were altered by psychedelic drug use.

Ethanol Fuel Persuasive Essay
In the reading passage, it focuses on the topic that ethanol is a bad alternative for gasoline for some
reasons, and the instructor concentrates on the same issue. However, the instructor claims that the
ethanol fuel indeed is a good replacement, which raises doubts about what the reading passage
asserts. The instructor, in the lecture, also provides some compelling evidence to back his point of
view.
To begin with, whereas the reading passage suggests that the increased use of ethanol fuel would
not help to solve one of the biggest environmental problems caused by gasoline use: global
warming, the lecturer argues that the use of ethanol fuel could reduce the carbon dioxide which is
the main factor to cause global warming. Even though the use of ethanol fuel create carbon
dioxide, the plants which are used to create the ethanol fuel are able to absorb the carbon dioxide.
As a result, the carbon dioxide can be removed, and the absorbing of carbon dioxide counteracts the
releasing of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

price will be competitive in the future. The reason is that the price will drop when more producer
involves in producing ethanol fuel. The instructor also said that if the amount of ethanol fuel is 3

instances of Chivalry in From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight. In From Sir Gawain and The
Green Knight Chivalry is indicated by Sir Gawain, through his bravery, respect, and humility in
accepting the Green Knight s challenge in place of King Arthur. As declared by Sir Gawain in
From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, I am the weakest, well I know, and of wit feeblest; And
the loss of my life would be least of any (174 lines 128 130). The prior quote demonstrates how
Sir Gawain is humble he states that he is the weakest of all the knights and if The Green Knight
decapitates and kills him, the loss of life won t mean much, compared to the loss of any of the
other knight s lives. Sir Gawain before accepting the challenge in place of King Arthur shows
respect for his king by asking permission from King Arthur to accept The Green Knight s challenge
in Arthur s place. Likewise, Sir Gawain also exhibits bravery by accepting the challenge of The
Green Knight. All of the Knights of The Round Table had an ominous feeling even before the
decapitation that The Green Knight was a supernatural

Reasons And Differences Of Spain And The Ming Empire
During the 15th and 16th century, exploration became the new norm of society. Each individual
country had their own motives, reasons and goals regarding voyages across land and sea. For
instance, Christopher Columbus, in the name of Spain, voyaged out to find an alternative route to
Asia. The Portuguese, tried to increase their knowledge about trading. Moreover, while some
traveled to increase their powers, Zheng He, of China, traveled to discover raw resources and
generate more capital into China s economy. If we compare the maritime policies of the kingdom
of Spainand Portugal on the one hand and the Ming Empire on the other the differences in motives
clearly outweigh the similarities between these two societies. For example, the Kingdoms of Spain
and Portugal traveled to spread Christianity, to gain land, to rule over new subjects and to spread
their power throughout the different continents, while as the Ming Dynasty was only interested in
capital and new/raw resources.
Asia was the center of trade, business and craft. Many countries tried to find a direct route to Asia,
in order to increase trade. Whereas, China decided to uphold isolationism. Its population was one
hundred million people in four million miles of square land. China did not want more land, nor
more subjects to govern. In fact, China had more people than it can govern. Yongle Emperorsent

Racial Relations Between The Police And Minority...
Do relations between the police and minority and the police and non minority communities differ,
how, and for what reasons?
If the question is posed to the minority communities and the non minority communities than the
resounding answer would be yes! One persistent in the argument over policing and racial relations
in America is how differently this issue is looked at by blacks and whites.
Pew Research Center polling has continually found that blacks and whites have very different
views about many sides of race all together from trust in the police to advances on racial equality.
In one example, 48% of whites said quite a bit of progress has been made since 1963, compared
with 32% of blacks, according to a 2013 survey conducted just before the 50th anniversary of
Martin Luther King Jr. s March on Washington.
But compare those views with the views on how police deal with minorities in a survey shortly
after the Ferguson shooting when 80% of blacks said the incident brought up important issues about
race. Whereas only 37% of whites thought the same. In yet another poll in which blacks told of
less trust than whites in local police to treat both races equally. About (71%) expressed a great
deal or fair amount of trust in local police to treat blacks and whites equally, compared with just
36% of blacks. Those dissimilarities were long standing: The differences were similarly wide when
the question was asked in 2009 and 2007.
Blacks and whites differed on other methods of

Essay about Neutral Diction in Disillusionment of Ten...
The Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, what a time of night! The houses are haunted by white night
gowns. Everything is the same from one house to the next. Not only does Wallace Stevens hint at
the Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, he also brings forth feelings of loneliness and despair through
his selectuse of neutral diction. Stevensemphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition,
the sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. Nevertheless, the emotion of the poem
is only brought about by Stevens specific use of neutral diction.
None are green, or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings, or yellow with blue rings. A
common theme runs throughout this poem, which is linked together through the ... Show more

These feelings are reflected onto the reader, who in turn obtains the same emotions as the author,
those of loneliness and despair for the situation.
In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader
acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the
order the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his
poem, he paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the
sameness of the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and
lines in this poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow
rings... In doing this, Stevens was able to show the emotions of loneliness and despair that he felt at
this hour.
Syntax and parallelism also played a large part in the author s emphasis of his point. By piecing
both of these things together, Stevens was able to provide the reader with an ironic change in
wording for the last four lines of the poem. It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most
important in the entire poem. Not only do they offer the reader juxtaposition between characters,
but they also illustrate the author s loneliness and despair. People are not going to dream of
baboons and periwinkles. Only, here and there, an old sailor, drunk and asleep in his boots, catches
tigers in red weather. The sudden change

Human Impact On No2 And Company Comparison
Human Activity Impact on NO2 and CO Comparison
Lynn Dietrich
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars
Abstract
Human activity can change the world incredibly fast. We have to monitor those changes the best we
can in order to understand any damage that is being done. We use satellites and specialized
instruments to monitor the changes in our atmosphere. The levels of pollution that humans are
responsible for has to be monitored so that any danger can be avoided. We have to study the
components of the atmosphere to understand what is harmful and what is not.

It is formed when hydrocarbon fuels are burned (Thompson). CO is mainly produced by industrial
processes, some fires, and internal combustion engines (Blakemore and Jennett, 2016). Like NO2,
the highest levels of carbon monoxide will be found in places with large cities and industries.
Carbon monoxide has local and global effects. High amounts are dangerous to people s health
locally. CO can be spread by winds throughout the troposphere, having a global effect (Ichoku).
Carbon monoxide is being studied to see its role in atmospheric chemistry and the ability of the
atmosphere to cleanse itself of harmful pollutants (Ichoku). Humans are the source of a huge
amount of pollution. Human activity has caused nitrogen dioxide levels to rise. This rise has
increased pollution levels and has hurt the atmosphere. Human activity has also caused carbon
monoxide levels to rise, but unlike NO2, carbon monoxide can easily be spread around the world by
wind. The spread of carbon monoxide has added to pollution and hurt the atmosphere. Human
activity can have a very drastic effect on our world in a relatively short amount of time. With the
help of satellites and monitoring instruments, we can see those effects and try to act on the data
before any major damage is done. As humans continue to pollute the environment, scientists
continue to monitor the constant changes in the atmosphere and other components to try and

The Long Walk Home And Sociological Perspective
Humans often take pride in their ability to think freely and act independently. However, many
actions that we perform and certain ways we behave in society are often quickly overlooked and
not questioned. We often do not understand why we perform certain tasks or adhere to certain
rules. However, we still paradoxically pride ourselves in our freedom. By analyzing the
sociological perspective, we can understand how much of a role society often plays in our actions
and behavior as individuals in society. Certainly, the sociological perspective can allow us to
analyze events in the movie The Long Walk Home more closely. The sociological perspective can
allow us to understand how the actions of the characters are often chained and their behaviors
controlled by society, through using the theories of social location, social control, and social
stratification. The sociological perspective can also allow us to understand why these characters
strangely adhered to these forms of oppressive control and often resisted change, through using role
theory and the sociologyof knowledge. Lastly, the sociological perspective will allow us to
understand how actors can break free of these bindings, through using an interpretive analysis and
applying concepts such as freedom, ecstasy, and bad faith. Overall, the sociological perspective
allows us to understand the personalities, actions, and story of The Long Walk Home through
revealing to us how these features were guided through control,

The Role Of Erosion And Weathering In The Painted Desert...
Have you ever wondered how landmarks like the The Tepees in the Painted Desert of Arizona
came to be? Erosion and weathering are the main culprits behind the creation of these unique and
beautiful attractions. The mechanical and chemical procedure that modify objects on Earth s
surface over time are called weathering. Erosion is the method of taking weathered material from
one region to another. Weathering is the breaking down of rock, soil, and minerals. Erosion is the
development of being eroded by wind, water, or other natural causes. Weathering is grinding out of
man made or natural landforms. Erosion is the weathering out of surface soil and rock worn way
through natural causes like water and wind for example.
Mechanical weathering is when physical procedures naturally breakdown rocks into reduced
pieces. Chemical weathering changes the materials that are part of a rock into new resources.
Examples of chemical weathering are water, acids, and oxidation. Water is important in chemical
weathering because, most substances dissolve in water and acids are also essential since they
increase the rate of chemical weathering even more. Lastly, oxidation which is when an addition of
oxygen to a material is applied it creates an oxide. Which is a ... Show more content on

The Role and Rights of Women in Western Europe and Eastern...
During the long nineteenth century, political revolutions, industrialization, and European
imperialism resulted in dramatic changes in the role of women in Western Europe and Eastern
Asia. As industrialization spread in Western Europe, women were no longer able to fulfill their
dual role as a mother and a worker. After the introduction of industrialization, laborious tasks
were moved from the household to factories and women were forced to choose either the life of a
mother or the life of a worker. Women who chose to leave their households were subjected to
harsh conditions, low wages, and long hours. The majority of married and middle class women

As industrialization spread in Western Europe, the production of products and goods moved from
the household to factories which drastically changed family life. Married women were unable to
work unless they left their children and home in someone else s care. Moreover, middle class
women generally did not leave their homes in order to work. In contrast, the women of Eastern
Asia rapidly joined the work force after the introduction of industrialization and made up a
gigantic portion of the labor force. This difference is probably due to the fact that the rural women
of Eastern Asia were always laborers, and they make up the majority of the female population.
Additionally, European women generally preferred domestic labor to laborious tasks. Rural women
were offered independence by leaving their homes in order to perform domestic work; they
generally sent their earnings to their families or saved it for themselves. Moreover, the European
women that participated in the work force were forced to travel long distances and were separated
from their families from long hours. Additionally, their wages were significantly lower than that of
their male counterparts. Furthermore, women worked under poor conditions and were constantly
susceptible to disease. Similarly, the poor women of Eastern Asia sought employment in the cotton
and silk industry.

A Raisin In The Sun Character Analysis
A Raisin in the Sun is about the dream of the Youngers, a black family living in South Side
Chicago in the 1950s. Like any family, the Youngers dream is a stitched together mosaic; as they
impatiently wait for the arrival of an insurance check for ten thousand dollars, each member of the
Younger clan has a slightly different dream for the money. Yet when the check actually arrives,
their dreams collide. Even as the dream of each relation moves closer to reality, the family
fragments. The struggle between material desires and family ideals escalates into a heavy and
bittersweet drama. There are a couple of prominent themes throughout A Raisin in the Sun.
There s the obvious theme to follow and work hard for your dreams, the importance of having a
healthy family relationship and pride. The main focus of the play is on dreams. Each of the
characters has a dream of their own. For Beneatha, she desires to go to school to become a
doctor. During a scene Beneatha explains why she wants to become a doctor she wants to help
people, That was what one person could do for another, fix him up sew up the problem, make
him all right again. That was the most marvelous thing in the world...I wanted to do that. I
always thought it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up
the sick, you know and make them whole again. This was truly being God...I wanted to cure. It
used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about
people and how their bodies hurt... (14) Beneatha works hard and tries her best even when
others, such as her boyfriend Asagai, try to discourage her. For Walter, it is his desire to make
money to support his family and lead a good life. Walter tries many different methods to get
money, but they were not successful. In fact due to his dissatisfaction it led him to hurt others
around him. Especially in this scene where Ruth opens up to Mama about how worried she is for
Walter, Mama, something is happening between Walter and me. I don t know what it is but he
needs something something I can t give him anymore. He needs this chance, Lena. (187). As for

Children Should Start At An Early Age
Figure 1 These are my kids: Hezel, Angelia and Andrew
Babies are born every day creating a constant demand for advice about every aspects of childcare
and general parenting. Children are not born with a handbook , thus, deciding the appropriate way
to raise a child is complicated.
Being a parent is one of the most challenging task but very rewarding experience in life. I can
say this because I m a parent myself. I know what it takes to be a mother of 3 kid s ages: 7, 4 and
3 years old. Providing their basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter are main responsibilities
of a parent but teaching them good manners and right conduct is very important as well. Discipline

In cases like these, people around us would judge us right away that we are not good parents and
we do not discipline our child.
How Can I Help My Child Learn Good Behaviour? There are lot of ways how to help our kids learn
good behaviour. All we needis to understand and consider them, that they are not perfect and often
makes mistakes just like we do. Here are some suggestions:
Offer Praise and Affection Regularly. For example, my son, Andrew who is two years old at that
time had drawn a squiggly lines and web like scribbles on our white wall. After coming home
exhausted from work, he met me at the door and very proud and happy to show his drawing.
Instead of being mad, I composed myself and said, Oh that is very nice, it is like a spider web, but
next time draw or write it in a paper as I had literally gave a paper and crayons to him.
Plan Transition. Doing one activity to the next makes child anxious, we need to talk to our child so
they knew what to expect. Give our child advance warning when transitioning into another activity.
Example) Two or more minutes playing with the blocks or dolls, then its time to clean up . In this
way, they prepare themselves for the change of routine and move on to another activity.
Avoid stressful situations. Common triggers may include hunger and sleepiness, and quick change
of venues. So, plan in advance and anticipate our child schedules. Don t take our child shopping

Research Paper On Tupac Shakur
Tupac Amaru Shakur was a very influential person who overcame many difficulties. Tupac was a
rapper of truth that spoke about the things that go on in the Hood and the unjust police. He was
treated differently because he was black and was even arrested for jaywalking. After he was
arrested he was beaten by the cops who wanted him to learn his place (Joseph 29). This shows
how bad Tupac had it because he was African American. Tupac died an early death at 25 because
of a brewing rivalry between the East and West Coast rappers. Shakur was a person who would
stand up for what he believed in no matter the cost and died fighting for that. He never let anyone
win a battle that he was determined to win and always knew what he was fighting for. His mother
was the same, as a loyal member of the Black Panther Party, a group that protected all African
Americans from police brutality. Tupac was literally born to be a fighter and carried on his mother
s legacy. Despite his rough life, Tupac Shakurbecame one of the most influential rappers of all time.
Tupac Shakur was born on June 16th, 1971, with the name Lesane Crooks. His name was switched
to Tupac Amaru II almost a year later. He was born in New York and lived primarily in Harlem till
he was 13. In 1984 he moved to Baltimore where he lived for four years until he moved to Oakland.
When he was younger he struggled in life because his family was poor and had to move. Mostly

Finally, and most importantly it seems, we can t wait to turn 21 so that we can legally drink alcohol. Compensation Systems Compensation systems can take on many forms, all of which have positives and negatives related to it. However, certain components are noted to be determinants of solid compensation plans. One agreement of a solid compensation system is the use of incentives. Clearly a successful companies set objectives that will provide incentives to increase profitability (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Incentive bonuses should be measures that the company finds important to long term growth. According to Needles amp; Powers (2011) the most successful companies long term focused on profitability measures. For large for profit firms, compensation programs should offer stock options. The interweaving between the market value of a company s stock and company s performance both motivate and increase compensation to employees As the market value of the stock goes up, the difference between the option price and the market price grows, which increases the amount of compensation (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Conclusively, a compensation plan should serve all stakeholders, be simple, group employees properly, reflect company culture and values, and be flexible (Davis amp; Hardy, 1999; The Basics of a Compensation Program). Four compensation models are laid out by the Bangor Family Physician case study. These models include: (1) revenue model; (2) net income model; (3) base salary plus ... • 5. Surveillance And The Threat Of Terrorism Surveillance Over the decades, as technology advanced, surveillance became easier and easier. In the 21st century, people live in the world of ubiquitous surveillance, where everything becomes collected, saved, searched, correlated and analyzed. Surveillance generally means to keep close watch over someone or something. While a root word in surveillance is veil, which portrays imagery as saving face, or hiding. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other federal agencies are engaging in the extensive surveillance to fight crime and reduce the threat of terrorism. Not only does surveillance fight crime, it proves the honesty and humility of people in the work office or on the streets. However, surveillance threatens privacy and liberty because it monitors individuals, meaning that certain information may not be kept secret. This frightens countless people because the thought of being watched sparks a controversy of the 4th amendment of the constitution. The 4th amendment protects the right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Surveillance challenges the privacy and liberty of individuals; nevertheless, it upholds the protection and security of citizens from terrorism and crime. The main purpose of surveillance systems is to monitor events from a remote or secret location. The capabilities of domestic surveillance expanded rapidly in recent years due to the equally rapid spread of new technologies that facilitate information gathering. However, many of the ... The Controversy Over Gay Parent Adoption Gay Parent Adoptions Many states laws deny children in foster care, healthy, loving homes simply because of a potential parent s sexual orientation (Gray, 2006), The catholic church as well as other organization s oppose gay adoption based upon religious teachings, while others debate the legality of it (Gray, 2006). In today s society, many children grow up to be emotionally stable and successful whether they have a heterosexual couple as parents or a same sex couple as parents. Gay parent adoptions are an equal right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally stable as heterosexual adoptions. Adoption Process Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using drugs or alcohol. Children s Services are called in to remove the children from the home and are placed into foster care. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to complete counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State. If, after these two years the biological parent has not been successful in their program, the State maintains custody of the children and the children are then legally up for adoption. All prospective adoptive parents must complete a home study (parenting classes) to verify their competency. Once completed, the parents search for their adoptive child. Local and state governments play an important role in gay parent adoptions. Two states, Mississippi and Utah, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. moralhod Morality in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness... Morality in The Heart of Darkness I trust I shall be forgiven the discovery that all moral philosophy hitherto was boring and belonged among the soporifics (Nietzsche 561). Maybe so, but the issue of moral philosophy has been discussed though out time and provides a significant element in Conrad s story Heart of Darkness. In general, the timeless discussion traces back to the first philosophical writings of Plato and transcends from general religious grounds to general applications and codes of behavior espoused by Kant and Mills. These individuals and lines of thought try to establish a good code of behavior based on something: a benevolent god, extensible codes similar to The Golden Rule, or even relativistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His argument is basically this: if God is omnibenelovent, omniscient and omnipotent then either evil does not exist, or, if it does, it is not really evil. Milton lays the groundwork definitions, aligning the parties in his illustrative argument early. If then his providence / Out of our evil to bring forth good, Our labor must be to pervert that end, / and out of good still to find means of evil (Milton I: 162 165). The word his refers to God and relates the word good with him, and relates Satan to the word evil . The justifications for these labels are more implied than anything else, based in the relationship of the Christian God, and thus the Bible and the actions and motivations displayed by Satan. He becomes tied to ... deep malice to conceal, couched with revenge (Milton IV: 123) and ... ire envy and despair (Milton IV: 115). Thus, good is implicitly the opposite of that: kindness with forgiveness, pleasure and joy. Milton s argument follows a path of self discovery, illustrates a sympathetic character and describes his internal conflict and resulting horror of his situation. Mainly that he cannot ask for forgiveness and is thus locked into downward spiral between the reality of the situation, the expectations of his cohorts, and his own personal motivations. Architectural professional practice is a relatively regional field in which architects conduct their comprehensive manner in a specific localized territory. Due to the current fact that more and more American architects practice in China, it is not an easy time for them to interact or communicate with remote brains on the other side of earth. The different cultural and social backgrounds have become the source of misunderstanding and problems in the process of cooperation, which may lead to unfavorable consequences. As a Chinese architectural student who has studied in America and worked in local projects for the U.S. architectural firm, I have experienced many differences between the two sides. • 10. Socrates’ Speech in Apology Aristophanes Clouds, if read hastily, can be interpreted as a mindless satyr play written in 419 BCE. Yet the chorus warns the reader not to expect the play to have farcical ploys like a hanging phallus stitched on the actors to evoke a laugh, but has underlying seriousness as she [the play] comes in trusting only her words (Clouds 538 44). Even if the play does use some low devices, the play s message is sophisticated and can be read as a warning to Socrates. Aristophanes is a friendly critic of Socrates and warns Socrates to change his ways for Athens and for the good of himself (Whidden). They are referred to as a voice that Socrates hears, not unlike a conscience, that turns me [Socrates] away from whatever I am about to do, but never turns me forward (Apology 31d). Socrates uses that as the reason why he never got into politics, as the majority rule is usually against his own code of morals (31d). Socrates is not exactly godless or immoral for he would not condemn a group of prisoners without trying them separately. His whole care is to commit no unjust or impious deed (32d). Socrates may have moral standards, but perhaps his followers would not. This leads into the charge that he corrupts the youth, for if Socrates can question the gods, they can too. Athenians acted out of fear of heavenly retribution, not morals (Whidden). Those youth found it acceptable to do whatever they wanted because of the apparent lack of gods and thunderbolts coming down from the heavens to smite those who deserve justice. Clouds Socrates argues, If in fact he [Zeus] strikes perjurers, then how is it that he did not burn up Simon, or Cleonymus or Theorus? Yet they are vehement perjurers. But he strikes his own temple and Sunium, the cape of Athens, and tall oak trees. Why? (Clouds 398 402). Those youths have mimicked Socrates style of rhetoric and argument. • 11. Anne Sexton Woman I have been her kind. (Sexton, lines 1 7) Here, Sexton is not meaning that she has literally been a witch, but she empathizes with the persecuted women of earlier centuries. When Sexton states that she is braver at night and that she has done her hitch/over the plain houses, she is verbally expressing that the tenebrosity is her only escape from the judging ocular perceivers of people who lead impeccable, conventional lives in suburbia. (Sexton, lines 3 4). The orator kens what it is relish to be the isolated witch who does not fit the typical woman s mold, and who is a lonely thing that is cast out of society for not fitting in. (Sexton, line 5). By saying that a woman like that is not a woman, quite, she is exhibiting that people view women who are non conformist as flawed and not even as legitimate women. In the second stanza, Sexton goes on to say that the speaker has: Found the warm caves in the woods, Filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, Closets, silks, innumerable goods; Fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves: Whining, rearranging the disaligned. ( The 1960s: Lifestyles and Social Trends: Overview. ) The British Invasion, which officially started on February 7, 1964, excited mass hysteria over the arrival of several British rock musicians. • 13. Reflective Essay Introspection is an important activity that adults should take time to do. I find myself thinking more about the world and others than I do about myself. This activity is beneficial as it helped me do some self reflection prior to taking any assessments to confirm or reveal who I am. I think of myself as a hands on learner. I like to process information in pieces because I like to analyze one puzzle piece at a time so that I can have a better understanding of the big picture. My temperament at work and home are slightly different. At work I am more patient and diplomatic. I think that my emotional intelligence is higher than those around me. In my personal life, I find that I am less gracious towards those around me. Perhaps it s because I expect much more from family than co workers or direct reports. My leadership style is participative. I really enjoy collaborating with others and including direct reports in the decision making process as they add value to the decisions made. At the same time I know that if I am passionate about something, I will dig my heels deep and help others understand why the course of action I am recommending is the best one. I like to communicate in person. There is something significant about face to face communication. The Size Of An Organism AC 2.1 1) When the size of an organism increases its surface area also increases. 2) When the size of an organism increases its volume also increases. 3) As the size of an organism increases both its surface area and volume increase however the surface area to volume ratio decreases. This is because the volume increases at a greater rate than the surface area. Organisms with a smaller surface area to volume ratio can exchange substance more easily compared with bigger organisms, which require more specialised systems. Having a large surface are to volume ratio enables the organism to heat up more quickly however they do not retain the heat compared with organisms with a small surface area. 4) Bacteria and Amoeba Small organisms such as ... Bacteria have adapted to digest large micro nutrients by secreting enzymes that break down micro nutrients, for example the enzymes break down proteins into amino acids so that they can be absorbed into the cell. Amoebas are larger than bacteria and are approximately 100Вµm in diameter but still have a relatively large surface area to volume ratio. Amoebas, unlike bacteria, do not secrete enzymes externally to digest food, instead they extend their cytoplasm and around the nutrients and then break it down within the cell. Figure 1 shows the nutrition of an amoeba. Figure 1 Microorganisms can heat up quickly but cannot retain heat well compared with larger organisms. This is because they have large surface area to volume ratio, so heat escapes easily. Flies Larger organisms have adapted to overcome limitations what occur in more simpler organisms, by developing more complex systems to exchange substances and retain heat. Multicellular organisms rely on many different cells that are specialised to perform different tasks, however they all work together in order for the organism to function. When cells are produced they have the potential to specialise as any type of cell for example a nerve cell or tissue cell depending on the requirements of the organism. Even prior to the United States entrance into the war, media companies and state officials themselves spoke out against the evils of communism, though that rhetoric was put on hold as the Soviet Unionand America fought alongside one another against the Axis powers. As Rider points out, while the U.S. propaganda apparatus was almost totally dismantled at the war s end, Truman still wanted to ensure that other peoples receive[d] a full and fair picture of American life, which became the basis for the substantial psychological war both the Soviets and Americans engaged in throughout the Cold War. While a considerable amount of attention in historical academia has been given to the proxy wars, space race, and arms build up both states took part in, parallel to said competitions were those at the Olympics. These notions which where said to promote racial inclusivity included mestizaje. The ideology of mestizaje often times enabled exclusion through racial terms and marginalization. In order to grasp how such an ideology has created a paradoxical and contradictory outcome politically, economically, and socially for black communities in Latin Americaone must draw from real world examples. Two examples of Latin American countries that have experienced marginalization of their black communities are Columbia and Mexico. Before one can enter a conversation on the process through which black communities are marginalized in Latin America it is essential to define a few terms. First one must define what Latin America encompasses. Latin America s dictionary definition is that it is the part of the American Continents South of the United Statesin which Spanish, Portuguese, or French is officially spoken. However, Latin America also has an ideological meaning that was defined in lecture by Professor Campos as as an idea thus signified a restoration of western civilization in the Americas. To do so, Lyvers conducted a survey amongst 337 drug users. The results were related to Lerners and Moro s results. Chivalry (An analysis of Chivalry in From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) Emphasizing military courage, Christianity, and group loyalty centered on Arthur (Phillips). Who followed Chivalry ideals? Knights during the time of King Arthur followed Chivalry. Chivalry was the code to live by for knights of this era. Chivalry is a combination of Christian and military ideals including: courage, honesty, faith, respect for all, modesty and loyalty. From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight by an unknown author, is about a supernatural knight, The Green Knight, who rides into Camelot and challenges the Knights of the Round Table. The Green Knight challenges any of the knights to decapitate his head with an axe; however, he will return what they do to him in a year and a day. The knight, Sir Gawain, is the fellow who accepts The Green Knight s challenge. Sir Gawain, after seeing The Green Knight pick up his decapitated head, stick in back onto his body, and ride off, has to embark on a trip to The Green Chapel where The Green Knight s abode is. So the supernatural knight can return the favor unto him. Ultimately, there are three main instances of Chivalry in From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight. In From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight Chivalry is indicated by Sir Gawain, through his bravery, respect, and humility in accepting the Green Knight s challenge in place of King Arthur. As declared by Sir Gawain in From Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, I am the weakest, well I know, and of wit feeblest; And the loss of my life would be least of any (174 lines 128 130). Sir Gawain before accepting the challenge in place of King Arthur shows respect for his king by asking permission from King Arthur to accept The Green Knight s challenge in Arthur s place. Each individual country had their own motives, reasons and goals regarding voyages across land and sea. For instance, Christopher Columbus, in the name of Spain, voyaged out to find an alternative route to Asia. The Portuguese, tried to increase their knowledge about trading. Moreover, while some traveled to increase their powers, Zheng He, of China, traveled to discover raw resources and generate more capital into China s economy. For example, the Kingdoms of Spain and Portugal traveled to spread Christianity, to gain land, to rule over new subjects and to spread their power throughout the different continents, while as the Ming Dynasty was only interested in capital and new/raw resources. Asia was the center of trade, business and craft. Many countries tried to find a direct route to Asia, in order to increase trade. Whereas, China decided to uphold isolationism. If the question is posed to the minority communities and the non minority communities than the resounding answer would be yes! One persistent in the argument over policing and racial relations in America is how differently this issue is looked at by blacks and whites. Pew Research Center polling has continually found that blacks and whites have very different views about many sides of race all together from trust in the police to advances on racial equality. In one example, 48% of whites said quite a bit of progress has been made since 1963, compared with 32% of blacks, according to a 2013 survey conducted just before the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. s March on Washington. But compare those views with the views on how police deal with minorities in a survey shortly after the Ferguson shooting when 80% of blacks said the incident brought up important issues about race. Whereas only 37% of whites thought the same. In yet another poll in which blacks told of less trust than whites in local police to treat both races equally. About (71%) expressed a great deal or fair amount of trust in local police to treat blacks and whites equally, compared with just 36% of blacks. Stevensemphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition, the sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the order the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his poem, he paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the sameness of the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and lines in this poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings... In doing this, Stevens was able to show the emotions of loneliness and despair that he felt at this hour. Syntax and parallelism also played a large part in the author s emphasis of his point. By piecing both of these things together, Stevens was able to provide the reader with an ironic change in wording for the last four lines of the poem. It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most important in the entire poem. Not only do they offer the reader juxtaposition between characters, but they also illustrate the author s loneliness and despair. People are not going to dream of baboons and periwinkles. After coming home exhausted from work, he met me at the door and very proud and happy to show his drawing. • 56. Research Paper On Tupac Shakur Tupac Amaru Shakur was a very influential person who overcame many difficulties. Tupac was a rapper of truth that spoke about the things that go on in the Hood and the unjust police. He was treated differently because he was black and was even arrested for jaywalking. After he was arrested he was beaten by the cops who wanted him to learn his place (Joseph 29). This shows how bad Tupac had it because he was African American. Tupac died an early death at 25 because of a brewing rivalry between the East and West Coast rappers. Shakur was a person who would stand up for what he believed in no matter the cost and died fighting for that. He never let anyone win a battle that he was determined to win and always knew what he was fighting for. His mother was the same, as a loyal member of the Black Panther Party, a group that protected all African Americans from police brutality. Tupac was literally born to be a fighter and carried on his mother s legacy. Despite his rough life, Tupac Shakurbecame one of the most influential rappers of all time. Tupac Shakur was born on June 16th, 1971, with the name Lesane Crooks. His name was switched to Tupac Amaru II almost a year later. He was born in New York and lived primarily in Harlem till he was 13. In 1984 he moved to Baltimore where he lived for four years until he moved to Oakland.
