The Criminal Justice System (CJS)
The Criminal Justice System (CJS) is a system of practices across England and Wales. It works
alongside major agencies such as; the police, the crown prosecution Service, the National Offender
Management Service, the Courts and Prisons who work together to prevent and deter crime by
punishing or working with offenders accordingly. There are also voluntary services that run within the
CJS which include Victim Support and the national Association for the Care and Resettlement of
Offenders (NACRO). The criminal justice system has some main goals in which they focus on which
include; increasing the public s confidence in the effectiveness and fairness of the CJS, improving the
effectiveness of the CJS when bringing offenders to justice and to improve ... Show more content on

They stated that murderers that plead not guilty by the reason of insanity (NGRI) have brain
dysfunction. So they obtained a group of individuals who had been charged with murder but pleaded
NGRI, in which some of these individuals had mental illnesses including schizophrenia, some had
personality disorders such as Multiple Personality Disorder and some had brain injuries. To compare,
there was also a control group involved who had schizophrenia but had not committed a crime. This
study examined brain activity in the individuals who had committed the offence when completing a
task. The results that were found showed that there is a link between criminal behaviour and the
activity and structure of the brain. Although this could only mean that the brain activity could be a
contributing factor towards such behaviours, so it doesn t mean that it s the main cause for the violent

Synthesis And Biological Use As Potential Anticancer Agents
Norcantharidin and analogues: synthesis and biological use as potential anticancer agents
Norcantharidin (NCTD), the demethylated analogue of cantharidin, has been used to treat human
cancers in China since 1984. It was recently found to be capable of inducing apoptosis in human colon
carcinoma, hepatoma and glioblastoma cells by way of an elusive mechanism.1 Norcantatharidins and
their analogues are synthetic anticancer agents which have been used in various different procedures
for the inducing growth arrest and apoptosis of tumour cells and also provide therapeutic and adjuvant
therapeutic applications in the treatment of cancer agents.2 This report will discuss the various
different NCTD that are currently being studied, highlighting the synthesis of these NCTD and their
various biological pathways that are taken in order to inhibit the growth of the correspondent cancer
cell. In particular NCTD induced apoptosis of the hepatoma cells will be considered and also
highlighting the different views with the synthesis of the particular NCTD and also the effectiveness
of the methodology and its observations in response to other NCTD and their mechanism in attacking
the hepatoma cell site.
One study by Shuijun Zhanga et al had shown the ABT 737 induced apoptosis of hepatocellular
carcinoma cells (HCC) by the transcriptional repression of Myeloid cell leukemia 1 (Mcl 1). Shuijun
Zhanga et a. had shown that NCTD could affect apoptosis by the modification of the B cell lymphoma

The resilience methodology seeks to build on strengths and strengthen the supports and opportunities
of the child. Resilience plays a vital role in assisting a child in settling into a new placement, without
experiencing major emotional difficulties. Three factors that promote resilience are secure base, Self
esteem and Self efficacy(Grotberg, 2000). These can be influenced by positive experiences on a daily
basis, some which will be highlighted throughout the assignment.
Resilience in an individual refers to successful adaptation, despite the risk and adversity. The manner
in which Matson 2004 defines resilience is very clear to me, as I can relate and reflect this to one
particular girl that resided in the care centre I worked. Throughout the young girl s childhood, she
developed an insecure and ambivalent attachment to both her parents, as a result of their hectic
lifestyle of substance misuse. At a young age her father died from the HIV viruses, which lead her
mother in becoming depressed and profoundly dependant on drugs. Due to the mother s dependency,
she was unable to respond accordingly to the girls needs, given very mixed and inconsistent responses.
At the age of 10, due to extreme neglect, the young girl was removed from her mothers care and
entered the care setting. Over the years the young girl had experienced several placement breakdowns,
and at 13 was admitted to a residential centre. During this time she felt both a

Your Right to a Fair Birth
Many people enjoy the idea of planning events before they happen. Whether it s going on vacation,
getting family together for the holidays or planning the arrival of a newborn child;. The natural way
for a baby to be born is through the mother s birth canal and vagina. But, sometimes vaginal birth isn t
possible. More than ever, woman are opting to schedule childbirth electively, even though there can be
serious risks and implications involved. Many who choose an elective childbirth, do have a legitimate
reason as to why they made that decision. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported
that, cesarean deliveries reached a record high of 32.9 percent out of all births in the United States

458). Not to mention the concern involving fetal injury, control and convenience (Ramachandrappa
Jain, 2009, para. 7). Obstetric based or maternal based reasons need to be discussed honestly between
the patient and physician carefully.
Often feeling the pressure of family and the uncertainty of the baby s arrival can be a motivating
factor toward choosing a planned birth. The mode of delivery in many ways can be up to the
discretion of a physician, more so because the medical community s fear of litigation even so
Obstetric nurses are 10 times more likely to be in the courts as oppose to non obstetric nurses(Sibbald,
2003, para. 3). The advantages of performing a ECS is having the patients preferred healthcare
provider available and greater ease of balancing staffing levels with clinical volume (Salim Shalev,
2010, p. 4). Ultimately, avoiding patient morbidity and fatigue with the healthcare team can contribute
to a positive outcome. Although, scheduling birth based on timing and convenience can be a
motivating factor for CDMR. It s been shown that respiratory morbidity in Elective Cesarean section
is inversely related to gestational age at the time of ECS (Ramachandrappa Jain, 2009, para. 9). With

Arthurian Legend Essay
Arthurian Legend
Even though the Arthur legend is hundreds of years old, our culture today is still fascinated with the
idea of the Round Table and the love triangle between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere. There are
movies and books galore to read about the different takes on the legend of Arthur. However, it makes
one wonder if our culture really understands the Arthurian legend. Especially in the movies the central
idea of a literary work can be lost. Compared to Malory s Le Morte d Arthur have movies lost sight of
what the Arthurian legend tries to teach?
Le Morte d Arthur has several different themes working within in for Hollywood to choose from. An
easy one for moviemakers is the glorification of the hero. In Malory s work ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, the Round Table is destroyed by the above mentioned betrayal.
Another theme that is also borrowed from Beowulf is the idea of the sword representing destruction.
The sword in the stone is what starts a great deal of the trouble. The sword is what continues to start
such trouble. Merlin warns Arthur that the sword is better off in its sheath but Arthur does not listen.
Instead, the sword is used to try to solve problems and ends up creating many more.
The last major theme was a common one during the time Malory was writing: courtly love. This
theme is definitely something our culture has dwelled on. The idea of two lovers who cannot be
together because of marriage is all too interesting for the culture that is also obsessed with soap
operas. One could say that many more movies that do not even mention Arthur could be based on the
Arthurian legend if they imitate courtly love. Any movie with a love triangle could be game. However,
the key element of courtly love is that there must be a third party. If the love is not forbidden it just is
not worth the trouble.
The first movie examined for the comparison was Disney s The Sword in the Stone. Without even
watching it, one knows there are striking differences. One main reason for several differences if that
the movie is a cartoon and is geared towards children. A children s movie is not going to try to

The Organ Of Organ Transplantation
One of the most significant issues concerning organ transplantation revolves around the just and fair
distribution of organs. Due to the assorted and occasionally conflicting opinions of what constitutes as
fair , in concurrence with a relative shortage of donated organs, many social, legal and ethical
contentions have arisen. This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation
page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and
approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record
4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014).
Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring
in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of
increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This
can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from
approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service,
2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required
organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and
smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are

Petri Dish Lab Report

BIO102 Spring Semester 2015 February 24, 2015
Introduction For this lab the experiment was to test how effective the antibiotic properties were in four
substances. The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the substances
had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared. The part that
would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent variables would be the
substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the zone of inhibition which is
what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this experiment were the bacteria, the
petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We measured the greatest diameter for each substance which told us the zone of inhibition. To
measure each we used a ruler and measured the diameters in millimeters. After recording each zone of
inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates. After
comparing the results we then copied all the data onto a table and calculated the mean for each
substance plus the control. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of difference
and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph that
illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances.
Results
In order to compare the difference of each substance we had to calculate the percent of difference for
each substance. The control vs the P 10 was calculated to be 65% which was the lowest percent. The
next substance which was not as high was the TE 30, when compared to the control it was 123%. One
substance that was higher was S 10, when it was compared to the control it was calculated to be 145%.
The biggest difference was C 30, when this substance was compared to the control it was 239%.

Keurig Case Study
Keurig Case Study
I. Overview
Meaning excellence in Dutch, Keurig, was founded in 1990 by Peter Dragone and John Sylvan. The
founders were on a highly caffeinated mission to completely alter the coffee industry with the
underlying belief that coffee should be served fresh by the cup. They wanted to bring the gourmet
coffeehouse experience to both the home and the office. Dragone and Sylvan wished to not only make
this possible, but to do so in a satisfying, convenient and efficient way.
In 1998, Keurig released their first single serve brewing coffee machine. The machine could also serve
a cup of hot tea or hot cocoa. In 2006, Keurig merged with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR),
which would later lead Keurig to becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porter s Five Forces
a) Threat of New Entrants
As competition in the single cup brewing market continues to increase, the barrier to entry remains
relatively low. This encourages competitors to enter the market. The competitors are aware that
creating a lower cost brewing machine that can brew coffee in the pod style (non patented) would give
them a competitive advantage over Keurig, whose products are considered quite expensive. Three
main competitors include Nestle, Starbucks, Kraft and Mars. All three companies have greater
financial, marketing and operating resources.
b) Bargaining Power of Suppliers
Keurig has a low concentration of suppliers, which therefore limits the bargaining power of these
suppliers.
c) Bargaining Power of Buyers
Buyers ultimately have more bargaining power than the suppliers. This is because Keurig will be more
interested in keeping consumers happy so that they can maintain relationships and brand loyalty. For
example, consumers can demand new flavors of coffee that fit their personal preference.
d) Threats of Substitute
The threat of substitutes is relatively low solely because of the fact that there is a limited number of
substitutes. Keurig is the top Single brewer coffee machine.
e) Intensity of Rivalry
Companies are more apt to work with Keurig in hopes of making K cups in their own coffee to be
used by the Keurig single cup brewer. This is more of an

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Articles Of Confederation
The articles of Confederation had many faults and weaknesses. Firstly, it had a unicameral legislature
to one vote per state. A 2/3 majority needed to pass legislation and vote to amend Articles. The
unicameral legislature left the states with one legislative or parliamentary chamber. This left the 13
states and the central government with no separation of powers. The central government had no
national executive or court system. Along with those problems the central government had no power
to collect taxes, raise an army, or even regulate trade. With one vote per state to change or amend the
Articles a unanimous agreement. This left the 13 states and the central government with no separation
of powers. This intern left the central government weak since the states maintained a majority ... Show

In order to pass any major laws they needed 9 of the 13 states to approve which was very difficult. I
believe the Articles were created weak because many of the states and citizens believed and felt that
they were separate entities. They were suspicious of a strong central government because of the
British rule. In essence the Articles created a loose confederation of individual states. The government
had little power over the states which they keep to themselves. With no power to raise funds by taxes
the government could not raise an army. Or even regulate monies by creating universal money; they
couldn t regulate trade between states or even to other countries. This also led to poor foreign
relations. In conclusion the articles left a loose central government. With little to no power to execute
executive powers like trade, commerce, and foreign affairs the ability to amend the Articles or even
vote when a majority was needed, which a majority vote was need when states seemed to worry about
just themselves. Without the states identifying themselves as a nation and as Americans the Articles

Nazi Aryan Race Theory Essay
In the Holocaust not only were the Jews killed so were a group of people called the Gypsies. 1 million
to 4 million Gypsies were killed in the worst ways with no remorse. But why would this happen to the
Gypsies if they didn t do anything? They didn t consider the Gypsies Germans. The reason all this
started was because of a theory that the Germans made. Nazi Aryan Racial Theory is known as a racial
designation; Houston Stewart Chamberian was the first to use the term Aryan to mean the white race it
was the Aryans who invaded the conquered ancient India from the north. The Aryan Race Theory was
a way that Germans were segregated in many different ways. This started in the 1700s when scholars

Gypsies were also different because they didn t let their kids go to public schools. Or they didn t go to
local churches. Romany was also a group of people that were in tribes, not all the tribes were the same
they each had their own different costoms, beliefs, leaders, and dialects. The Germans started this
theory because they changed the word Aryan into a noun. Gypsies were the most effected because
even before the Nazis took over the government, they wanted to find a good reason why they should
eliminate the Gypsies wether they had the power or not. The Nazis found that calling the Gypsies
asocial elements and also making them irrelevant to normal society, could help in eliminating them.
Germans were also told that they would endangered the purity of Aryan blood and the public health.
But it all got worse when in 1920 they had changed the label of the Gypsies to worthless life. Later on
in 1928 when Weimar constitution was still ruling Germany, everyone had equal rights. But the
Germans had passed a law that all Gypsies were under permanent critical police observation.
Rehabilitation camps were the first places where Gypsies older than 16 would be placed, so they

With a little bit of look into this question I found some exciting information that brings me closer to an
answer to this difficult question. The American Journal of Agriculture of Economics has postulated
that the egg has arrived first. Within the article they have done some mathematical experiments on this
case and have rejected the hypothesis that eggs do not cause chickens but that chickens cause eggs, so
plainly stateing that the egg was the first(25). So they concluded that the egg came first. Walter
Thurman and Mark Fisher provided this outcome after a series of surveys on chickens and eggs
around the agriculture market.
A forum at UCLA seems to offer more of an opposing view to this question. Scientifically the idea
that the chicken came first is more appealing. They tend to go along with the theory of evolution
provided from Darwin. UCLA students hypothesis that since chickens are a bird species and that birds
evolved from dinosaurs, the chicken would have to come first on the timeline. I tend to agree
Thomas, 3 with this because it would seem awful hard for a chicken to raise it self if it just came from
an egg. Also I believe in the theory that the chicken came first because of a more obvious aspect. If
you were to look at humans, we also come from an egg, even though it is not quite like the egg

Water Contamination, Tap Water Vs Expensive Bottled Water
I was fascinated by this experiment that we recently did on water contamination, tap water versus
expensive bottled water. Our water is tap well water. While exploring the topic futher, our research
area took place on our kitchen counter where we observed how the test chemicals reacted with the tap
water versus the bottled waters. We needed to follow the directions thoroughly, so we got accurate
results. We started with test strips of ammonia: all three glasses of water contained: 0 mg/L of
ammonia, 0 mg/L of chloride. The 4 in 1 showed: Tap water; 0 mg/L, total alkalinity; 10.0 of total

Our ecosystems are made of living and nonliving things that affect each other, so the importance of
being sure there is a safe water supply that is not contaminated universally is very important. Similar
studies that were done have proved similar findings such as another water analysis experiment
explained in an article by Joseph Montalvo and Ching Gen Lee which uses several methods to identify
trace organic contaminants in water. This study is in conjunction with EPA standards. Different
sources of water were treated with activated carbon (Montalvo Lee, para. 3, 1976). Different waters
were treated from ground source water to tap water to bottled waters. Based on the results, further
testing is recommended. Because of the variables of different water sources and carbon filters used, it
is recommended that everyone test their drinking water before trusting it. Another study, done by the
USEPA makes sure the nation has safe drinking water by safeguarding against hazardous minerals,
wastes, and negligible risks by implementing safety measures and making sure by law safety measures
and precautions are taken (Cotruo, 2012, para. 6).

diversity of the practice of Hindusim. I attended two services, one being the celebration of Diwali, the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Owls
In my early childhood my parents always made me go to bed at 9 PM. They believed (wordiness) in a
common thought that the earlier you go to sleep, the easier it will be to wake up in the morning. It
doesn t matter how many times I refused, I was still obliged to do that. As time passed, it became
impossible for me to be in bed even by 11 PM. At this particular time, so to say, I become as mentally
active as never during the daytime and all tasks seem to be easier to solve. These types of people who
prefer staying awake late at night are called owls. Moreover, there is a different type of people who
prefer doing everything when the sun is coming up. They are called larks. What are other differences

This is not a surprise, actually, because night time means that people go to pubs or clubs.
Consequently, the desire to consume alcohol and nicotine is much higher and is less resistible.
Researchers who conducted the same studies, created a parallel between the alcohol abuse as well as
mental disorders with the novelty seeking. Novelty seeking, according to Wikipedia, is a personality
trait associated with exploratory activity in response to novel stimulation, impulsive decision making,
extravagance in approach to reward cues, and quick loss of temper and avoidance of frustration. The
same research showed that larks tend to be more proactive, agreeable and stable than owls. Besides,
larks are less like to be procrastinators. The study conducted by a researcher named Joseph Ferrari
showed that larks procrastinate less because they don t leave all the tasks till night. Owls, on the
contrary, do this and such a habit may lead to job troubles. A person is expected to do his/her job
during the daytime and if a person can t do it, the employer starts hesitating whether to keep such a
worker at the office or not. Because there are so many differences between there 2 types of people, it s
almost impossible to form any similarities. However, I managed to come up with one connection
between owls and larks. Both morning and evening types of people are active

Hemingway Determination
Authors provide influential messages and lessons to the readers by using myriad themes throughout
their books. The author, Hemingway of the novella, The Old Man and the Sea, constantly states the
theme of determination . Determination means not giving up on something that is desirable. In
everyday life, we all strive for things we desire. Hemingway expresses to the readers the real meaning
of determination and the use of determination in our everyday life. One of the major myriad themes
that Hemingway states in The Old Man and the Sea is determination. Determination means firmness
of purpose, to never give up. The meaning of this empowering word inspires many to achieve their
goals in life, by not allowing anyone to downgrade them or stand in their way. ... Show more content

By implementing determination, never allow failure to be a discouragement. For instance, a historical
figure named Thomas Edison tried multiple times to invent the light bulb, but was unsuccessful.
Because of his determination, he did not allow that to make him give up, yet he allowed those failed
attempts to encourage him to go above and beyond, and eventually he invented the first light bulb and
made history. This example was to enlighten not to allow one failed attempt to become a
discouragement, but yet an encouragement to do better. Like Edison once stated, Our greatest
weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
An author uses themes to apply life lessons for the readers. Hemingway, the author of The Old Man
and the Sea uses determination as the major theme of the book. Determination means never giving up
on anything. By applying determination to our life, just simply never allow anyone to stand in your
way of success. The true meaning of determination and how we should impact it in our daily lifestyle

undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and
necessity of a complex and well educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make
sure that the next generation takes a step further than the previous one. With this in mind, society has
understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today to
pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. Truly this is a terrifying thing which cannot be
ignored, as it has a direct impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first place, the interest rates have been rigged to increase dramatically in a very short period of
time. The interest on the student loans has increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the
outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, The average student loan debt was $18,550 in 2004;
this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase compared to the previous
decade and we are fully aware that paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very difficult
(End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never ending debt. Due to
this, there are a huge number of high school students who are re considering a college degree, even
though they are fully aware of the necessity of qualification for many jobs.
An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate
international students to finance their full time MBA degrees. An example of this would be, The
Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in New York is offering a student loan program,
with student loans ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition this is a very useful benefit to
international students (Other News).
However, it has become extremely complicated for Muslim students to even access these student loans
as Muslim students cannot claim a student loan mainly due to their religious belief that prevent them

Observation Of Bar Culture
Hypothesis:
Bar culture is thought to be a free for all and a very egocentric society, that is highly alcohol charged
and a party scene. Due to this perception, it is often believed that bar culture is a society where there is
not much interaction with others besides the bartender and or the individuals that you are with. I am a
novice when it comes to bar culture for many reasons but one of the most profound factors is that my
family has a bad history with alcohol but my interest is peaked by this society due to it being much of
an adult playground. With my peaked interest and ignorance of this culture, I set out to find whether or
not the American bar culture is truly a free for all or if it is a fairly warm and welcoming community

The demographics of Guitars Cadillacs is obviously the majority of 21 years and older who are
coming to have a drink or two after work; given that I came on a weekend late at night the people
were mostly around my age and maybe a little older, there was a wide range of races, however, most
were white but again due to the dim lighting it was hard to always tell from a distance an equal
amount of both men and women were there too. However though on the third time I observed I
noticed a change in the diversity in the people this this time the age group due to the early of 7 pm
arrival the age group was around 40 and 50 whereas prior to that the age was 20s and 30s. Another
Interesting thing that I noticed was even minors were there as well (as stated above) due to the fact
that this bar on Thursday nights offers college night for students at the local colleges. Given the fact
that this is a West Texas bar in Abilene Texas there was a lot of individuals in cowboy hats and
western wear and the added fact that we were in oil field center professional area of the State the
majority of people seemed as if they were regular blue collared workers. I assume that the population
of the bar s major religious background would be fairly mixed due to the fact that not just one religion
goes to bars but rather it depends on the individual s desire to go drink but I assume that

America´s Involvement in Foreign Affairs and War
1. Majority of the presidents before Theodore Roosevelt had no interest at all in foreign affairs until
after the World War I. President Theodore Roosevelt and other presidents made foreign affairs more
captivating than before. Roosevelt strongly believed in the worth and significance of Americans power
and the usage of the power, but he had different ways of using the power. Roosevelt also believed that
there was a great advantage in foreign affairs that would cause economic development and growing

Ethical Dilemmas In The Workplace Essay
Ethical Dilemmas in the Workplace
As a manager, you are the role model for staff. You set the standards, adhere to guidelines, and
exemplify what you expect staff to model. By doing so, you are establishing and sustaining an
organizational culture of ethics and integrity, which is the backbone of all successful endeavors.
However, even the best structured organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how
management recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team up for
success or for failure. One of the biggest hurtles management can overcome is to be aware of their
surroundings because when management fails to notice and act, it is an ethical failure (Bazerman
Sezer, 2016, para. 5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby boomer generation
believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are slackers, thus inhibiting
opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management must be mindfully aware of the potential
for conflicts when setting up teams of diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to
ensure more inclusion and possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne,
2016).
Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems. Employees can be made to
feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or
withstand having their work continually criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant
(Wilson Nagy, 2017). According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take
more sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting, negative
health effects. To prevent this from occurring, management must continuously be cognizant of how
they communicate internally and externally, as well as how staff relates with one another. By not
doing so, the organization could lose dedicated, hard working employees, as well as stake holders and
clients. In addition, Clark (2017) suggests that understanding of the relationship between bullying and
personality dynamics enables organizations to integrate these findings into policies and procedures

The Male Gaze Essay
In this essay, I will develop a critical analysis of contemporary mainstream film and I will argue that
attitudes and behaviour within this industry are adapting, albeit slowly, to respond to developing
attitudes within society. To assert this theory, I will focus specifically upon the identity of the gaze and
discuss how this has been applied, previously and currently, in action and science fiction films;
expanding upon Laura Mulvey s argument in Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema (1975), regarding
voyeurism and the application of the male gaze .
The gaze is a term that describes how we engage with visual media. Mulvey posits that there are three
types of cinematic gaze to be considered in mainstream film; that of the characters, that of the camera
and that of the audience. She explores the idea that the gaze is always male; a theory ... Show more

During a fight scene, Deadpool attempts to deconstruct his own genre and addresses gender
stereotypes when he makes satirical reference to feminism, asking his female rival if it is sexist to hit

Dust responds with violence, overpowering Deadpool and hitting him with such force that it drives
him out of the frame. Feminist discussion of the male gaze identifies the effect that it has upon how
women perceive themselves and allow themselves to be perceived by men and other women. In this
film, the female gaze is used to achieve that same affect but with a much more positive outcome.

Global Environmental Issues
Environmental issues are a major problem in our world, and all people need to recognize the need for
our social obligations. The effect of humans on our planet has increased significantly over the years.
Not only is the population constantly growing, there is new technical power to dig deeper, cut faster,
build larger, and traverse more quickly great distances in automobiles, trucks, and planes (Brown,
2001). Severe environmental issues have appeared throughout the world as a result. It is very
important that environmentalists work to educate everyone so that they can learn how to make the

The increased population helps to increase the amount of greenhouse gases, but it mainly contributes
to the consumption of our world s natural resources. The more advanced countries like the United
States use so many resources. Our people waste so much more than they help to conserve. Energy
security is a growing concern for rich and emerging nations alike. The past drive for fossil fuel energy
has led to wars, overthrow of democratically elected leaders, and puppet governments and
dictatorships. There are many concerns and fears which include oil and other fossil fuel depletion,
reliance on foreign sources of energy, energy demands rising from advancing developing countries
such as China and India, economic efficiency versus population growth debate, and renewable and
other alternative energy sources. (Shah, 2009). Many people are scared that we are wasting too much
of our fossil fuels. They think that if we keep going at our current rate, we will quickly use up all of
our fossil fuels. People need to try to consider all of the facts so that we can make good ethical
decisions. It would be very wise to invest in alternatives to fossil fuels. In the present and future, we
need to work on preserving as much as we possibly can. Currently, we are trying to find alternative
fuel sources instead of using all of our oil. That is just one example of ethical decisions that we are
committing to. If everyone was informed about all of the dangers so that

How to Add Value to the Hiring Process by Improving...
Annotation
This is a review of an article which discusses the different techniques of hiring the right, mainly in this
case, senior executives. This article aims to provide leaders with guidance on how to add value to the
hiring process by improving their recruiting diagnostics. The article focuses on a concept which is
referred to as fit and unpacks. This concept breaks down into sub categories which are, fit with the
job, fit with the leader, fit with the team, and fit with the organization. Instead of the traditional
approach of recruiting and assessing candidates based on the current needs of the organization, this
concept also addresses the current and emerging talent requirements. The article also considers the
types of questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If leaders follow the techniques discussed in the article, they can avoid many expensive consequences
of hiring unfit candidates.
The article discusses three fronts on which being fit is composed of. One of the fronts is being fit for
the job. The list of candidates will of course be able to meet the technical demands of the job as well
as have the skills, experience, and be on the right career path but these are expected credentials. The
leader must be able to look past these credentials and focus on the depth of the candidate s experience.
A good way to do this would be to focus on the extent to which they have demonstrated the qualities
they talk about in their past work activities. Focusing on just what the candidate says they have done
and the qualities they have can distract a leader from what is really important such as the quality and
performance of their previous work.
Another topic discussed which I agree with is whether the candidate is entrepreneurial or is more
comfortable improving something which already exist. The leader must decide what they are looking
for. If I am looking for someone to come in a break up the current system then someone with more
entrepreneurial traits would be the right candidate. If I was looking for someone who could improve
the current system, then I would look for the candidate who has past experience doing so.
The article refers to asking

The Consequences Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase set a dangerous precedent as the President of the United States, Thomas
Jefferson and Congress ignored the constitution when agreeing to purchase the territory. This purchase
of land violated the limitations that Thomas Jefferson and Republicans had fought for while the
Federalist party was in control of the Presidency and Congress. However, the political climate of
France, Spain and the United States set the stage for Jefferson to violate his strict constructionist
beliefs, to allow the Louisiana Purchase.
The Louisiana Purchase was the agreement to purchase the land west of the Mississippi River but east
of the Rocky Mountains, and from the Canada Lake of the Woods in the north to the Gulf of Mexico
in the south. This purchase would eventually lead to the formation of part or all of fifteen states. The
agreement was between France and the United States of America.
At one time this land had been under the control of Spain following the French and Indian war, but
France ceded the land to Spain for payment of debts for the war. For approximately thirty years Spain
did very little to develop Louisiana. In 1801 Spain signed a secret treaty to return the Louisiana
Territory back to France, in exchange for Napoleon s promise to give the Spanish royal family rule
over Tuscany. For reasons of his own, Napoleon, the leader of France, in 1803 offered to sell the land
to the United States of America. The leaders of our country were concerned that the

Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay
Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased
power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in
the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic
soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and
unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease
spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted
troops in the short and long term. As trenches became a more frequent tactic, the simple design was
improved and adjusted to suit the troops, area and task that it would be used for. They became a very
important part of tactical warfare and some layouts could be very complex. Trenches were first used
on the Western Front by both opposing sides. Due to severe exhaustion, dwindling resources and the
horrific death toll, both sides dug into the ground and assumed a defensive post. Most trenches were
dug deep enough that men couldn t be seen from above. Troops were then ordered to seek momentary
cover in the trenches (FIGURE 1) however eventually it became their permanent front line. ... Show

Therefore, I strongly agree that women should breastfeed their infants no matter how busy they are.
However, solutions should be taken into account from family to society in order to encourage women
to breastfeed their babies. Firstly, as a husband, he should give a moral support to her wife to feed
their infants with maternal milk because a wife will definitely listen to her husband to feed their
infants as the husband is considered as one of the closest people to a wife. Secondly, media should
give exposure to women on the importance of breastfeeding through social media such as Facebook,
Twitter or Instagram. Lastly, the public needs to change their perspective towards women who feed
their babies with maternal milk because public s perception has made most of the women feel
ashamed and do not have the confidence to breastfeed their infants especially in public area during
emergency cases. After taking these solutions into consideration, hopefully, the rate of women that

Lao Tzu Leadership Influences
Introduction Lao Tzu, the Father of Taoism, lived a large part of his life searching for an individual s
path of natural goodness. He is known for numerous inspirational quotes, such as Be the Chief, but
never the lord. I became aware of this quote several years ago and it has been a source of
encouragement throughout my Coast Guard career. The title of lord is inherited or given as a
positional power granted by landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right
decisions for their advantage. It is an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s

#5 Praise people for a job well done also needs my attention. I have a terrible habit of correcting and

work with awards, but those tend to have time restrictions often taking months or years after the

Essay On Scapegoat

responsibilities, be more responsible, be the good influence, and something they look up to. Having
those scapegoats is another thing that make me the person I am today, I can look at things deeper than
others. I can look at something different then what someone else sees, when they see a disaster, I see
potential. By my parents keeping me home all the time allows me to see that they are just trying to

I Know Who You Are And I Saw What You Did By Lori Field
An enchanted arrangement of wildflowers, beasts and humans intertwined together in a fantasy world.
I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did, by Lori Field is a hand drawn piece on paper using an
ancient writing method called silverpoint. Lori s style is a mixture of surrealistic, grotesque and
contemporary pop. Her process consists of hand drawing either with silverpoint or color pencils and
then uses wax to layer the drawings to create one piece like a collage. At first glance this piece
captures the audiences eyes on the two women who are main characters. One woman is in full armor
with her eyes closed while the other woman is floating next to her gazing upon her. The piece
definitely has a surrealistic feel, almost like the audience is looking into the woman s dream especially
since the woman floating has a dress on with the words I cannot sleep written on it. Due to the specific
symbols, objects, and animal imagery there is an intended hidden message intended for the audience
to discover. Created in 2012, I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did is a 12 x 12 inch drawing
currently located at the Cumberland Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. The main character of the piece
is a woman wearing medieval armor like a knight and she has on a headpiece consisting of thorns and
horns of an animal like a deer. Her eyes are closed like she is asleep and this is her dreamworld. This
piece has some elements of Surrealism because of the influence of the dreamlike world and

The Greek Philosopher Socrates
The Greek Philosopher Socrates once famously stated in his trial, The unexamined life is not worth
living . He was charged with impiety and corruption of the youth, and said trial was recorded by Plato.
Yet he was not an evil man. He was an axial thinker, seeking truth over wisdom, and virtue over
knowledge. He encouraged others to examine life, and constantly question what the people believed to
be true. Socrates came of age in 5th Century B.C.E Greece. The Grecians had proven themselves
victorious over the Persians, and Athens, the strongest city state in Greece, and was thrusted into an
axial transformation. Athenians sought to gain knowledge of the controlled aspects of life; Such as
why and how humans do the things they do. Athens prided itself on this axial way, of which their
prized possession, democracy, was born. Yet this transformation was brought to an abrupt halt by the
Peloponnesian Wars. Athens grew fearful that Sparta would threaten their growth, and instead halted
their own transformation by throwing themselves into the Peloponnesian Wars. Athens suffered defeat
at the hands of Sparta, in which they lost everything they found dear, and Athens was thrown into an
axial dark age. Yet, Socrates was out of his times, and refused to change. To a generation of Athenians
who needed certainty most, he brought about uncertainty and fear. Tragically ironic, he believed that
questioning life was the only way to live, but it evidently brought about his death.

Again, no code at this time, just an explanation.
We would use a interrrelation constraint to enforce the data constraint. An interrrelation constraint can
be used to set it so UnitPrice will equal each other.
F. Insert all of the following data into the tables, using the CustID Sequence where appropriate:
The data used here is essentially the same data used in Chapter Two. Note that a Sales Tax Rate is
needed for calculating the ORDER.Total. This data set (as given) uses 7.90% (.079). Note that dates

The For The Interethnic Church Experience
For the interethnic church experience, I went to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels,
Pennsylvania. I attended with three of my friends Ashley, Cassandra, and Jennifer. My friends came
along in order to gain the experience from the church with me. We all had different experiences, but
we all felt glad that we went together and to the church. When planning to go to the church, I read
some articles on the proper etiquette of the church, and how to act in an Orthodox church. The rules
included sitting up straight or standing for the whole service as they do in other parts of the world, and
how to venerate an icon. I was nervous to do all these steps, because I did not want to mess up or
offend anybody. However, I practiced and tried to be prepared. Also, picking an outfit was a struggle
because I wanted to be very respectful to the culture. The church that I attend when I am at home is
very relaxed, and do not care if a person wears jeans to the service. They still want the people in
attendance to be respectful and modest, but besides that, people can wear whatever the feel
comfortable in. When preparing to attend this church however, I picked my outfit carefully and hoped
that I would be dressed up enough. When I arrived, I saw that I was and felt more relaxed. I was also
nervous about the language barrier, as I do not know Serbian. I did not know if the whole service
would be in Serbian or if only part of it would be in a foreign language. I was excited to

Essay on Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease is a progressive condition where the neurons degenerate in the brain, while the
brain substance shrinks in volume. Alzheimer s is also the number one cause of dementia. When it was
first noticed, Alzheimer s was thought to be a pre senile disease, but now it is known to be responsible
for seventy five percent of the dementia cases in people over sixty five years of age. Alzheimer s
disease usually causes several years of personal and intellectual decline until death. Because there is
an increasing number of elderly citizens in the United States, research into the causes and possible
cures for the disease is on the rise (1).

Also, women are thought to be at a slightly higher risk than men (4).
The symptoms of the disease vary somewhat among individuals. However, there are three distinct
stages that a person suffering from Alzheimer s will experience. In the first stage, the patient
experiences some problems with memory loss and will often make lists or other aids to compensate
for this loss. The individual can begin to feel depressed or anxious because of the memory problems.
This stage often Goes unnoticed as symptoms of Alzheimer s (1).
The second stage is marked by the change from forgetfulness to severe memory loss. Long aGo events
are often easier to recall than things that have happened within the last few days. For example, one
might remember childhood events but are unable to remember what they saw on television last night
or what they ate for breakfast. Disorientation in relation to time and place occurs often, along with
increased anxiety and recurring mood swings. The patient also experiences dysphasia (inability in
finding the right word to say), increased difficulty with math problems, and loss of direction in
familiar places. Personality changes will soon become noticeable when this second stage is reached
(1).
Finally, the third stage is marked by severe disorientation and confusion. Usually, the worst signs of
memory loss and disorientation occur at night. In this

Describe At Least Five Manifestations Of A Contrast Dye...
10. Describe at least five manifestations of a contrast dye reaction. What steps can the nurse take to
minimize the risks of a patient having one of these reactions? The contrast dye that is used during
cardiac catheterization can lead to many reactions that ranges from mild to serious. The mild
symptoms include diaphoresis, pruritus, dyspnea and tachycardia. The more serious reactions include
ventricular tachycardia, bronchospasm, laryngeal edema, and seizures (Siddiqi, 2014). A nurse can
minimize these risks by pre medicating the patient if the patient is known to have an allergy or a
disease that could exacerbate such as asthma. The medications that can be used include prednisone
and hydrocortisone. It is also recommended that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the patient may have. A patient must be competent to sign the informed consent or the informed

myocardial infarction, the patient will need immediate attention in the cardiac catheterization lab
which will leave no time for a lengthy description of the procedure. However, an informed consent
must be signed before performing a cardiac catheterization regardless of the amount of time that is
allowed during an emergency. An informed consent allows the patient to have autonomy and has the
right to decide if they want to continue with this procedure due to the benefits and risks that comes

The Marshmallow Experiment
Self control is the ability to subdue our impulses in order to achieve longer term goals rather than
responding to immediate impulses. Instead we plan, evaluate and often avoid doing things we ll regret
later. The ability to exert self control is typically called willpower, which allows us to direct our
attention toward goals. And, therefore, it underlies all kinds of achievement. The Marshmallow
Experiment A psychologist named Walter Mischel, in a psychology experiment in 1970, placed a treat
in front of children and offered them a choice they could either enjoy a treat of marshmallow now, or
wait a brief period of time in order to get two snacks. The experimenter then left the room. He found
on coming into the room after some time that many of the kids immediately ate the marshmallow, but
a portion of the kids were able to put off the urge to enjoy the treat now and wait for the reward of
getting two delicious goodies later on. Mischel discovered later that the children, who had waited for
the treat, performed better academically than kids, who ate the treat right away. Those, who delayed
their gratification, also displayed fewer behavioral problems and later had much higher SAT scores. In
follow up experiments, Mischel found that using a number of distraction techniques helped children
delay gratification more effectively. Such techniques included singing songs, thinking about
something else, or covering their eyes. The children in Mischel s study had the promise of a secondary
reward for waiting just a short period of time. But, on the contrary, everyday scenarios don t always
come with this guarantee and, therefore, it becomes quite difficult to delay gratification.
Unpredictability of future rewards The uncertainty about future rewards makes delaying immediate
gratification a real challenge. And, that is why, many think why not have immediately which is there
in front of us. May be, it may not be there later! Our everyday life is replete with such examples. If on
a diet, many will lose their self control and give in to temptation to enjoy a delicious dish at a party.
They will argue with themselves that even after following a diet plan, they are facing difficulty in
losing weight. So why

Little Mermaid Descriptive
Descriptive The picture books are spread out across the table, with their vibrant colors and hard
covers. I take in all of the new books that I received for my 7th birthday. I feel the pages as I turn them
in my hand one after another, taking in the fresh new book smell. This book is titled, The Little
Mermaid, and I can t wait to hear it at bedtime, once the sun goes down. This book will be added to
my collection, and sit beside the others all in a row on my pink bookcase, where I know each and
every one by heart (Zipes, Fairy Tales and the Art of Subversion 207). For bedtime, Mom brings the
pages to life with her enthusiastic voice, yet it s soothing enough to fall asleep to. The way that she
uses different voices for each of the characters makes me laugh. Sometimes, I don t look at any of the
pictures. Instead, I only listen. I imagine huge stone castles in faraway lands, guarded by knights in
shining armor with green meadows filled with daisies and roses as far as I can see in the distance (O
Neill, par. 62).
Earlier today I watched the Disney movie from my new book, and I am already in love. The energetic
music makes me want to get up and dance around and around. The tunes are incredibly fun to sing
along to, even evil Ursula s song. Sometimes she scares me with her long black tentacles and dark
potion filled caves. Her eels are just as frightening. Ariel, on the other hand, was so pretty in her light
sky blue dress when she toured the village. The pale

person has $50,000 in long term gains from selling one stock, but have $30,000 in long term losses
from the sale of another, then that person could only be taxed on $20,000 worth of long term capital

It works alongside major agencies such as; the police, the crown prosecution Service, the National Offender Management Service, the Courts and Prisons who work together to prevent and deter crime by punishing or working with offenders accordingly. There are also voluntary services that run within the CJS which include Victim Support and the national Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO). The criminal justice system has some main goals in which they focus on which include; increasing the public s confidence in the effectiveness and fairness of the CJS, improving the effectiveness of the CJS when bringing offenders to justice and to improve ... So they obtained a group of individuals who had been charged with murder but pleaded NGRI, in which some of these individuals had mental illnesses including schizophrenia, some had personality disorders such as Multiple Personality Disorder and some had brain injuries. To compare, there was also a control group involved who had schizophrenia but had not committed a crime. This study examined brain activity in the individuals who had committed the offence when completing a task. The results that were found showed that there is a link between criminal behaviour and the activity and structure of the brain. Although this could only mean that the brain activity could be a contributing factor towards such behaviours, so it doesn t mean that it s the main cause for the violent ... Synthesis And Biological Use As Potential Anticancer Agents Norcantharidin and analogues: synthesis and biological use as potential anticancer agents Norcantharidin (NCTD), the demethylated analogue of cantharidin, has been used to treat human cancers in China since 1984. It was recently found to be capable of inducing apoptosis in human colon carcinoma, hepatoma and glioblastoma cells by way of an elusive mechanism.1 Norcantatharidins and their analogues are synthetic anticancer agents which have been used in various different procedures for the inducing growth arrest and apoptosis of tumour cells and also provide therapeutic and adjuvant therapeutic applications in the treatment of cancer agents.2 This report will discuss the various different NCTD that are currently being studied, highlighting the synthesis of these NCTD and their various biological pathways that are taken in order to inhibit the growth of the correspondent cancer cell. In particular NCTD induced apoptosis of the hepatoma cells will be considered and also highlighting the different views with the synthesis of the particular NCTD and also the effectiveness of the methodology and its observations in response to other NCTD and their mechanism in attacking the hepatoma cell site. One study by Shuijun Zhanga et al had shown the ABT 737 induced apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HCC) by the transcriptional repression of Myeloid cell leukemia 1 (Mcl 1). The resilience methodology seeks to build on strengths and strengthen the supports and opportunities of the child. Resilience plays a vital role in assisting a child in settling into a new placement, without experiencing major emotional difficulties. Three factors that promote resilience are secure base, Self esteem and Self efficacy(Grotberg, 2000). These can be influenced by positive experiences on a daily basis, some which will be highlighted throughout the assignment. Resilience in an individual refers to successful adaptation, despite the risk and adversity. The manner in which Matson 2004 defines resilience is very clear to me, as I can relate and reflect this to one particular girl that resided in the care centre I worked. Throughout the young girl s childhood, she developed an insecure and ambivalent attachment to both her parents, as a result of their hectic

Whether it s going on vacation, getting family together for the holidays or planning the arrival of a newborn child;. The natural way for a baby to be born is through the mother s birth canal and vagina. But, sometimes vaginal birth isn t possible. More than ever, woman are opting to schedule childbirth electively, even though there can be serious risks and implications involved. Many who choose an elective childbirth, do have a legitimate reason as to why they made that decision. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that, cesarean deliveries reached a record high of 32.9 percent out of all births in the United States (National Center for ... Obstetric based or maternal based reasons need to be discussed honestly between the patient and physician carefully. Often feeling the pressure of family and the uncertainty of the baby s arrival can be a motivating factor toward choosing a planned birth. The mode of delivery in many ways can be up to the discretion of a physician, more so because the medical community s fear of litigation even so Obstetric nurses are 10 times more likely to be in the courts as oppose to non obstetric nurses(Sibbald, 2003, para. 3). The advantages of performing a ECS is having the patients preferred healthcare provider available and greater ease of balancing staffing levels with clinical volume (Salim Shalev, 2010, p. 4). Ultimately, avoiding patient morbidity and fatigue with the healthcare team can contribute to a positive outcome. Although, scheduling birth based on timing and convenience can be a motivating factor for CDMR. It s been shown that respiratory morbidity in Elective Cesarean section is inversely related to gestational age at the time of ECS (Ramachandrappa Jain, 2009, para. 9). With ... • 7. Arthurian Legend Essay Arthurian Legend Even though the Arthur legend is hundreds of years old, our culture today is still fascinated with the idea of the Round Table and the love triangle between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere. There are movies and books galore to read about the different takes on the legend of Arthur. However, it makes one wonder if our culture really understands the Arthurian legend. Especially in the movies the central idea of a literary work can be lost. Compared to Malory s Le Morte d Arthur have movies lost sight of what the Arthurian legend tries to teach? Le Morte d Arthur has several different themes working within in for Hollywood to choose from. An easy one for moviemakers is the glorification of the hero. In Malory s work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the Round Table is destroyed by the above mentioned betrayal. Another theme that is also borrowed from Beowulf is the idea of the sword representing destruction. The sword in the stone is what starts a great deal of the trouble. The sword is what continues to start such trouble. Merlin warns Arthur that the sword is better off in its sheath but Arthur does not listen. Instead, the sword is used to try to solve problems and ends up creating many more. The last major theme was a common one during the time Malory was writing: courtly love. This theme is definitely something our culture has dwelled on. The idea of two lovers who cannot be together because of marriage is all too interesting for the culture that is also obsessed with soap operas. One could say that many more movies that do not even mention Arthur could be based on the Arthurian legend if they imitate courtly love. Any movie with a love triangle could be game. However, the key element of courtly love is that there must be a third party. If the love is not forbidden it just is not worth the trouble. The first movie examined for the comparison was Disney s The Sword in the Stone. Without even watching it, one knows there are striking differences. One main reason for several differences if that the movie is a cartoon and is geared towards children. A children s movie is not going to try to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Organ Of Organ Transplantation One of the most significant issues concerning organ transplantation revolves around the just and fair distribution of organs. Due to the assorted and occasionally conflicting opinions of what constitutes as fair , in concurrence with a relative shortage of donated organs, many social, legal and ethical contentions have arisen. This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record 4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014). Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service, 2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Petri Dish Lab Report General Biology Bryarra Tinoco BIO102 Spring Semester 2015 February 24, 2015 Introduction For this lab the experiment was to test how effective the antibiotic properties were in four substances. The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the substances had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared. The part that would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent variables would be the substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the zone of inhibition which is what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this experiment were the bacteria, the petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We measured the greatest diameter for each substance which told us the zone of inhibition. To measure each we used a ruler and measured the diameters in millimeters. After recording each zone of inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates. After comparing the results we then copied all the data onto a table and calculated the mean for each substance plus the control. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of difference and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph that illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances. Results In order to compare the difference of each substance we had to calculate the percent of difference for each substance. The control vs the P 10 was calculated to be 65% which was the lowest percent. The next substance which was not as high was the TE 30, when compared to the control it was 123%. One substance that was higher was S 10, when it was compared to the control it was calculated to be 145%. The biggest difference was C 30, when this substance was compared to the control it was 239%. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Keurig Case Study Keurig Case Study I. Overview Meaning excellence in Dutch, Keurig, was founded in 1990 by Peter Dragone and John Sylvan. The founders were on a highly caffeinated mission to completely alter the coffee industry with the underlying belief that coffee should be served fresh by the cup. They wanted to bring the gourmet coffeehouse experience to both the home and the office. Dragone and Sylvan wished to not only make this possible, but to do so in a satisfying, convenient and efficient way. In 1998, Keurig released their first single serve brewing coffee machine. The machine could also serve a cup of hot tea or hot cocoa. In 2006, Keurig merged with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), which would later lead Keurig to becoming a ... Porter s Five Forces a) Threat of New Entrants As competition in the single cup brewing market continues to increase, the barrier to entry remains relatively low. This encourages competitors to enter the market. The competitors are aware that creating a lower cost brewing machine that can brew coffee in the pod style (non patented) would give them a competitive advantage over Keurig, whose products are considered quite expensive. Three main competitors include Nestle, Starbucks, Kraft and Mars. All three companies have greater financial, marketing and operating resources. b) Bargaining Power of Suppliers Keurig has a low concentration of suppliers, which therefore limits the bargaining power of these suppliers. c) Bargaining Power of Buyers Buyers ultimately have more bargaining power than the suppliers. This is because Keurig will be more interested in keeping consumers happy so that they can maintain relationships and brand loyalty. For example, consumers can demand new flavors of coffee that fit their personal preference. d) Threats of Substitute The threat of substitutes is relatively low solely because of the fact that there is a limited number of substitutes. Keurig is the top Single brewer coffee machine. e) Intensity of Rivalry Companies are more apt to work with Keurig in hopes of making K cups in their own coffee to be used by the Keurig single cup brewer. • 14. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Articles Of Confederation The articles of Confederation had many faults and weaknesses. Firstly, it had a unicameral legislature to one vote per state. A 2/3 majority needed to pass legislation and vote to amend Articles. The unicameral legislature left the states with one legislative or parliamentary chamber. This left the 13 states and the central government with no separation of powers. The central government had no national executive or court system. Along with those problems the central government had no power to collect taxes, raise an army, or even regulate trade. With one vote per state to change or amend the Articles a unanimous agreement. I believe the Articles were created weak because many of the states and citizens believed and felt that they were separate entities. They were suspicious of a strong central government because of the British rule. In essence the Articles created a loose confederation of individual states. The government had little power over the states which they keep to themselves. With no power to raise funds by taxes the government could not raise an army. Or even regulate monies by creating universal money; they couldn t regulate trade between states or even to other countries. This also led to poor foreign relations. In conclusion the articles left a loose central government. With little to no power to execute executive powers like trade, commerce, and foreign affairs the ability to amend the Articles or even vote when a majority was needed, which a majority vote was need when states seemed to worry about just themselves. Nazi Aryan Race Theory Essay In the Holocaust not only were the Jews killed so were a group of people called the Gypsies. 1 million to 4 million Gypsies were killed in the worst ways with no remorse. But why would this happen to the Gypsies if they didn t do anything? They didn t consider the Gypsies Germans. The reason all this started was because of a theory that the Germans made. Nazi Aryan Racial Theory is known as a racial designation; Houston Stewart Chamberian was the first to use the term Aryan to mean the white race it was the Aryans who invaded the conquered ancient India from the north. The Aryan Race Theory was a way that Germans were segregated in many different ways. This started in the 1700s when scholars discovered Sanskrit was closely related to the European ... Romany was also a group of people that were in tribes, not all the tribes were the same they each had their own different costoms, beliefs, leaders, and dialects. The Germans started this theory because they changed the word Aryan into a noun. Gypsies were the most effected because even before the Nazis took over the government, they wanted to find a good reason why they should eliminate the Gypsies wether they had the power or not. The Nazis found that calling the Gypsies asocial elements and also making them irrelevant to normal society, could help in eliminating them. Germans were also told that they would endangered the purity of Aryan blood and the public health. But it all got worse when in 1920 they had changed the label of the Gypsies to worthless life. Later on in 1928 when Weimar constitution was still ruling Germany, everyone had equal rights. But the Germans had passed a law that all Gypsies were under permanent critical police observation. With a little bit of look into this question I found some exciting information that brings me closer to an answer to this difficult question. The American Journal of Agriculture of Economics has postulated that the egg has arrived first. Within the article they have done some mathematical experiments on this case and have rejected the hypothesis that eggs do not cause chickens but that chickens cause eggs, so plainly stateing that the egg was the first(25). So they concluded that the egg came first. Walter Thurman and Mark Fisher provided this outcome after a series of surveys on chickens and eggs around the agriculture market. A forum at UCLA seems to offer more of an opposing view to this question. Scientifically the idea that the chicken came first is more appealing. They tend to go along with the theory of evolution provided from Darwin. UCLA students hypothesis that since chickens are a bird species and that birds evolved from dinosaurs, the chicken would have to come first on the timeline. I tend to agree Thomas, 3 with this because it would seem awful hard for a chicken to raise it self if it just came from an egg. Also I believe in the theory that the chicken came first because of a more obvious aspect. If you were to look at humans, we also come from an egg, even though it is not quite like the egg chickens come from we come from an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our ecosystems are made of living and nonliving things that affect each other, so the importance of being sure there is a safe water supply that is not contaminated universally is very important. Similar studies that were done have proved similar findings such as another water analysis experiment explained in an article by Joseph Montalvo and Ching Gen Lee which uses several methods to identify trace organic contaminants in water. This study is in conjunction with EPA standards. Different sources of water were treated with activated carbon (Montalvo Lee, para. 3, 1976). Different waters were treated from ground source water to tap water to bottled waters. Based on the results, further testing is recommended. Because of the variables of different water sources and carbon filters used, it is recommended that everyone test their drinking water before trusting it. Another study, done by the USEPA makes sure the nation has safe drinking water by safeguarding against hazardous minerals, wastes, and negligible risks by implementing safety measures and making sure by law safety measures and precautions are taken (Cotruo, 2012, para. 6). Novelty seeking, according to Wikipedia, is a personality trait associated with exploratory activity in response to novel stimulation, impulsive decision making, extravagance in approach to reward cues, and quick loss of temper and avoidance of frustration. The same research showed that larks tend to be more proactive, agreeable and stable than owls. Besides, larks are less like to be procrastinators. The study conducted by a researcher named Joseph Ferrari showed that larks procrastinate less because they don t leave all the tasks till night. Owls, on the contrary, do this and such a habit may lead to job troubles. However, even the best structured organizations face ethical dilemmas in the workplace. It is how management recognizes and addresses these occurrences that will either set them and their team up for success or for failure. Clark (2017) points out that studies have shown that employees from the baby boomer generation believe that the younger generations lack good work ethics and are slackers, thus inhibiting opportunities for collaboration within the team. Management must be mindfully aware of the potential for conflicts when setting up teams of diverse ages and delegating responsibilities accordingly to ensure more inclusion and possibly eliminate conflicts from occurring in the first place (LaMontagne, 2016). Bullying and other negative behaviors can also cause substantial problems. Employees can be made to feel inferior to another coworker or even you as the manager. They may be ridiculed, teased, or withstand having their work continually criticized, causing them to feel isolated and insignificant (Wilson Nagy, 2017). According to Wilson and Nagy (2017), employees who are bullied tend to take more sick leave, may suffer from depression, feel insecure, and can experience long lasting, negative health effects. The gaze is a term that describes how we engage with visual media. The leader must be able to look past these credentials and focus on the depth of the candidate s experience. A good way to do this would be to focus on the extent to which they have demonstrated the qualities they talk about in their past work activities. However, the political climate of France, Spain and the United States set the stage for Jefferson to violate his strict constructionist beliefs, to allow the Louisiana Purchase. Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted troops in the short and long term. As trenches became a more frequent tactic, the simple design was improved and adjusted to suit the troops, area and task that it would be used for. They became a very important part of tactical warfare and some layouts could be very complex. Trenches were first used on the Western Front by both opposing sides. However, solutions should be taken into account from family to society in order to encourage women to breastfeed their babies. Firstly, as a husband, he should give a moral support to her wife to feed their infants with maternal milk because a wife will definitely listen to her husband to feed their infants as the husband is considered as one of the closest people to a wife. Secondly, media should give exposure to women on the importance of breastfeeding through social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did, by Lori Field is a hand drawn piece on paper using an ancient writing method called silverpoint. Lori s style is a mixture of surrealistic, grotesque and contemporary pop. Her process consists of hand drawing either with silverpoint or color pencils and then uses wax to layer the drawings to create one piece like a collage. At first glance this piece captures the audiences eyes on the two women who are main characters. One woman is in full armor with her eyes closed while the other woman is floating next to her gazing upon her. The piece definitely has a surrealistic feel, almost like the audience is looking into the woman s dream especially since the woman floating has a dress on with the words I cannot sleep written on it. Due to the specific symbols, objects, and animal imagery there is an intended hidden message intended for the audience to discover. Created in 2012, I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did is a 12 x 12 inch drawing currently located at the Cumberland Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. • 38. The Greek Philosopher Socrates The Greek Philosopher Socrates once famously stated in his trial, The unexamined life is not worth living . He was charged with impiety and corruption of the youth, and said trial was recorded by Plato. Yet he was not an evil man. He was an axial thinker, seeking truth over wisdom, and virtue over knowledge. He encouraged others to examine life, and constantly question what the people believed to be true. Socrates came of age in 5th Century B.C.E Greece. The Grecians had proven themselves victorious over the Persians, and Athens, the strongest city state in Greece, and was thrusted into an axial transformation. Athenians sought to gain knowledge of the controlled aspects of life; Such as why and how humans do the things they do. Athens prided itself on this axial way, of which their prized possession, democracy, was born. Yet this transformation was brought to an abrupt halt by the Peloponnesian Wars. Athens grew fearful that Sparta would threaten their growth, and instead halted their own transformation by throwing themselves into the Peloponnesian Wars. Athens suffered defeat at the hands of Sparta, in which they lost everything they found dear, and Athens was thrown into an axial dark age. Yet, Socrates was out of his times, and refused to change. Tragically ironic, he believed that questioning life was the only way to live, but it evidently brought about his death. Yet, his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead we plan, evaluate and often avoid doing things we ll regret later. The ability to exert self control is typically called willpower, which allows us to direct our attention toward goals. And, therefore, it underlies all kinds of achievement. The Marshmallow Experiment A psychologist named Walter Mischel, in a psychology experiment in 1970, placed a treat in front of children and offered them a choice they could either enjoy a treat of marshmallow now, or wait a brief period of time in order to get two snacks. The experimenter then left the room. He found on coming into the room after some time that many of the kids immediately ate the marshmallow, but a portion of the kids were able to put off the urge to enjoy the treat now and wait for the reward of getting two delicious goodies later on. Mischel discovered later that the children, who had waited for the treat, performed better academically than kids, who ate the treat right away. Those, who delayed their gratification, also displayed fewer behavioral problems and later had much higher SAT scores. In follow up experiments, Mischel found that using a number of distraction techniques helped children delay gratification more effectively. Such techniques included singing songs, thinking about something else, or covering their eyes. The children in Mischel s study had the promise of a secondary reward for waiting just a short period of time. But, on the contrary, everyday scenarios don t always come with this guarantee and, therefore, it becomes quite difficult to delay gratification. Unpredictability of future rewards The uncertainty about future rewards makes delaying immediate gratification a real challenge. And, that is why, many think why not have immediately which is there in front of us. May be, it may not be there later! Our everyday life is replete with such examples.
