Main Idea Of The Tempest
The Tempest by Shakespeare is called after what happened in the beginning. The island is the setting
of the story. It seems to be an island with no people at it at first. The island has rivers and green trees.
It seems to be a good place for people to love. Although it looks like a deserted island people can go
and live their if they want to. If course if they want to survive they need to know how to built. The
tempest is the cause of the story without it the story would not even exist or it would but in a different
way. The story starts with a tempest that is destroying everything. The Boatswain tries his best
because he does not want to die. He says, Do you not hear him? You mar our labour. Keep your
cabins: you do assist the storm (29). At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Read this sentence but the opposite. Alonso says, I ne er again shall see her. O thou mine heir Of
Naples and of
Milan, what strange fish / Hath made his meal on thee? (34). Yet again without the tempest the whole
story would could change into a wedding of Alonso s daughter. It would be nice for some people to
read and some not because it would not be that interesting as it is now. Thank the tempest for the start
or the beginning of the story that we read and loved. There is no doubt about it the tempest is the big
cause that the story went to the history of some people that read the story.
Now it is stuck in the people s life now and we can not get rid of it thank the tempest. Further more
some of the characters have positive connotations. In a way the existents of the tempest in the story is
good. The main characters did not like the fact they are stuck on an island. The only one who did like
the shipwreck from the main characters that got shipwrecked is
Ferdinand. The main character so called Prospero is the one who actually has plans for

The Motif Of Water In The Assault By Harry Mulisch
In Harry Mulisch s novel The Assault, Mulisch expands on the historical event of the murder of Fake
Kirst who was assassinated on the streets of Amsterdam by Grommet Krijger through the life of Anton
Steenwijk following World War Two. Throughout the novel Mulisch takes advantage of numerous
motifs and expands their ability through a longstanding motif of water. He uses these themes to
develop the central character Anton who works to conquer history and his own past. The motif of
water is a strong decision by Mulisch that broadens the novel s overall depth and meaning .
Within the first episode Mulisch introduces the concept of water as Anton is trapped in a prison cell
as, He opened his eyes wide to see, but the darkness filled them like black ... Show more content on

Contrasting to other uses of the motif of water, the quote is not a direct action or movement that Anton
does, instead it is a short passage from a monologue that Mulisch has inserted on the perception of the
past and the future. As later in the quote Mulisch presents that one faces the void and the past is only
visible in memory (151). Subsequently Mulisch has tardily ended the ongoing question of viewing and
facing both the past and the present and the importance of understanding that it is impossible to steer
one s own ship into the waves of the future simply due to the waves do not exist

The Beatles
According to a journal article by David Philp, nearly fifteen million people tuned in to watch the
Magical Mystery Tour film. While the Beatles seemed to be pretty close to perfection during most of
their music making years together, at times things did not go so smoothly. Much of the chaos that
ensued was due to the death of Beatles Manager Brian Epstein. Though the group decided to push
forward with Paul s idea of another film with an accompanying soundtrack, the result was possibly
one of the worst Beatles films made. All of this came at one of the best times for the Beatles, their
career was once again at a high point. Although the group had good intentions, the album and film

Sexual Misconduct And Child Sexual Abuse
Today, female teachers and sexual misconduct with students continues to dismay school systems
around the nation. There are daily media reports of female educators and alleged sexual misconduct
with students; therefore, increasing public awareness of sexual misconduct in schools. Several
researchers reported, there is a limited amount of research on the topic, educator misconduct and child

The Subtle Ways Colleges Discriminate Against Poor...
The Subtle but Not So Subtle Discrimination
In Alvin Chang s article, The subtle ways colleges discriminate against poor students, explained with a
cartoon Chang uses multiple research projects to explain why students that have lower income or are
first generation students are less likely to succeed in college. In the article Chang references a survey
that was taken in order to see what different college administrators expect their students to acquire
during their education. Overwhelmingly the college administrator s wanted their students to acquire
individual skills over interdependence skills. Chang correlates a students success with their ability to
think individually knowing that lower income and first generation students show an interdependent ...

Chang uses does this throughout the article by using highly credible sources highly credible sources.
An Example of this is when Chang uses a research project done by Richard Reeves, a researcher from
Brookings Institution about how much a students educational success depends on one s parents
education level. As a reader this allows you to trust what the author is putting out there. If Chang
would have used sources like Wikipedia or Buzzfeed it would diminished his invented ethos on the
subject. Another example of this is when Chang uses a study done by Nicole M Stephens, an Associate
professor of psychology at Northwestern University, regarding the GPA difference between first
generation students and continuing generation students. Although Chang does not bring in his own
experiences as a professor his article is still credible because of the highly respected sources he brings
to the table. These sources add credibility to Changs claims, and adds great evidence to his article
because of their immense knowledge on the subject. Using these highly credible sources also show his
knowledge on the subject and so the readers take his article seriously making them more likely to
agree and acknowledge the evidence he uses to support his

Comparing and Contrasting the Role of Women in Things...
Role of Women in Things Fall Apart and Heart of Darkness Women were once little more than slaves
to their male betters. Some women might have been respected, but their places were limited to roles as
wives and mothers. They might rule a home, but were not believed intelligent enough for any other
role. This chauvinistic attitude is well reflected in the novels Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe,
and Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. In Things Fall Apart, women are praised in their capacities
as wives and mothers, almost revered really. In many instances, Achebe paints glowing pictures of
them in these roles. Anasi was a middle aged woman, tall and strongly built. There was authority in

There were many women, but they looked on from the fringe like outsiders (Achebe 87). With the
festivals, held in the public places, men presided and took the seats of honor in front. Women were
forced to stand at the edges and look on from there because they simply weren t as important. It was
the men who held the courts of justice and decided on punishment. Also, throughout the book, Achebe
emphasizes the women s role in childbearing and their fault if the children are not born healthy. Nneka
has had four previous pregnancies and childbirths. But each time she had borne twins, and they had
been immediately thrown away. Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of
such a woman and were not unduly perturbed when they found she had fled to join the Christians. It
was a good riddance (Achebe 151). Because Nneka could no longer fulfill her role as a mother in Ibo
society, she was no longer respected. She was not valued for her intelligence or her personality. She
was valued by whether or not she could produce healthy children. Because she couldn t, she no longer
had a place in her society. In Heart of Darkness women are not paid much attention beyond that of
Kurtz s mistress and his fiancee. The only other women mentioned in the novel are the two ladies
knitting with skeins of black wool, and the narrator s aunt, who got him his job with the Company.

How has the Great Pacific Garbage Patch affected marine...
Recently, it has been said that an eighth continent has formed, but this is no ordinary landmass, instead
it is made entirely out of manmade trash. In the Pacific Ocean, between the coast of California and the
Hawaiian Islands, lies a so called patch of waste, mainly consisting of plastic (Transoceanic Trash). It
is called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also known as the Pacific Trash Vortex. The patch extends
over a vast area in the North Pacific Ocean, its true size today is still considered undetermined because
it estimates vary greatly, no estimates are exact due to the changing wind and ocean currents, as well
as the growing volume of debris (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). The trash that makes up this mass,

These plastic bits are so small it is almost impossible for fish and other marine life to distinguish them
between plankton, which many fish and other larger animals such as whales eat (Great Pacific
Garbage Patch). Many animals are consuming this trash ultimately leading to their death. For example
loggerhead sea turtles it is common for them to mistake plastic grocery bags as their favorite food,
which is jellyfish (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Many other larger mammals and water birds have
been strangled in plastic rings that holds canned drinks together (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Many
birds will commonly fly over the Pacific Garbage Patch, including the albatross, and unfortunately
many mistake the garbage as food (The Great Pacific Garbage). A shocking number of 200,000 to
500,000 chicks that were born died, many of them having trash in their stomachs, not only plastics but
also bottle caps and various items were found (The Great Pacific Garbage). It has been predicted that
about 100,000 marine mammals will die from trash related deaths per year, many pieces of plastic and
garbage has been found in deceased animals digestive systems (Great Pacific Garbage Patch). Rusty

Women s Oppression Of Women
The oppression of women is best described as a steel cage, crafted over the centuries by the hands of
patriarchal powers, enslaving flightless and chirp less birds. Birds may be benevolent and gentle, yet
they embody a power most ferocious amongst all creatures. Though, it is of no fascination as to why
women, in being similar to birds, transform from powerful peoples to frail figures. The molestation of
power from these birds is done by the hindering cage encompassing them. The thick bars of
oppression slice the wings of the benevolent beings, strip the voice of the once vociferous, and above
all destroy the benign life of the feminine. These feminine figures have the potential to provide light
when light is dark, fly the silky sky, and, of utmost importance, break free from the shackles that bear
them down. Yet, only a few women have been notably brave to do so, and thus have confronted the
powerful patriarchal powers that serve to enslave them and earned the titles of feminists. Feminism is
an evolving philosophy which serves to destroy the intellectual paradigm that women are subservient
to males by nature. Yet, although feminism is essentially a product of the contemporary world, many
figures in history have demonstrated pre feminist ethics of which has given birth to the philosophies of
modern feminism. Sophocles Antigone, although fictional, presents an anecdotal example of a
prominent proto feminist figure, the protagonist Antigone. The work is set in Ancient

Reader Response In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner Reader Response
Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, has a writing style unique to him in a way that the
majority of his sentences are short and non complex. Although there are numerous words in Farsi,
most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said. Handsome (
Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his book, an example of
this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several times throughout the book to
show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is extremely important because it
adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it differently.
Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between
Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree to
read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its
bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and Hassan had gone
back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through. When Amir throws
pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for what he had done wrong.
Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I wished he d give me the
punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92). Amir needs the punishment he
deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to live up to. Once Amir goes back to
visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that once was a symbol of friendship, and now
the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years.
Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate
tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has
betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing
the end of their relationship.
Another symbol that is extremely important is the flying of kites. This is significant because it is

The Nuremberg War Criminal Trials
The Nuremberg War Criminal Trials
In the 1940 s, World War Two was drawing to a close, and Nazi Germany, while fresh in the memories
of many, was falling apart and was losing influence. The problem was that many of the Nazi leaders
were still out there, including Hermann Goering, the man responsible for starting and constructing the
first of his many Concentration Camps. The case consisted of 13 separate trials for 22 leaders for the
Nazi party, and many of whom received the death penalty. The trials were a symbolic representation of
the death of Nazism, and the world uniting for a greater cause and for justice.
The Nuremberg Trials all started when the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and the United States of

put to rest many of the suspicions of the people as everybody was given a full and fair trial, and

crimes they were accused of. So in conclusion, the 13 trials that would later be infamously known as
the Nuremberg War Crime Trials charged dozens of Nazi criminals with deaths of innocent people,
and saw to it that Justice would prevail. The trials, signaling the end of the Nazi s genocidal reign,

Satarie in Knights and Dames by Leahy
The comedic technique, Satire, is used in humour to criticise and trigger thoughts about today s
society, groups and issues. Knights and Dames created by Satirist, Leahy, is a satirical cartoon that
attempts to address issues and provoke thoughts about today s political issues such as individuality
and national identity. Hyperbole, situational irony and caricature are three of the satirical techniques
used in this cartoon. This essay will aim to analyse the language features and satirical cartoons.
Though Political satire is usually used to provide entertainment and humour, it is also used to expose
absurdity and hypocrisy among the political world. In order to understand the concept and meaning of
a political cartoon, the reader must have an insight of the current political status and issues or it would
be difficult to comprehend the cartoon. The cartoon, Knights and Dames attempts to express the
cartoonists opinion on the current Knights and Dames issue which is the reintroduction of the use of
Sir and Madame. Knights and Dames are predominantly used throughout the United Kingdom. Tony
Abbott, the man in the cartoon is shown in an unflattering light in order to make fun of him and his

Comparing The Humpest And The Tempest
Jason Kelliher in his academic article put forward a comparison between the spirits such as Ariel or
Caliban depicted in The Tempest and the technological advances in Brave New World. They both are a
form of technology and are the same kind of malicious control [...] to fulfill authoritarian goals .
Science, and what is more magic in the Shakespeare s play, is really important to achieve a control on
population through for example; with soma tablets in Brave New World and wine in The Tempest or
with Hypnopaedia and the siren song that could be considered as a intentional determinism. These
uses of technological advances, that are a requirement for any purportedly society , show according to
Kelliher a deification [of] industry and makes possible to idealize the assembly line and downplay the
moral and religious values of a more primitive age . This is ,this time, an intentional destruction of the
religious primitivism. The new God of the World state would be Henry Ford as said in the date 642

Developing Countries Research Paper
Developing Countries Research Paper Effects of Poverty in Somalia Strayer University Sociology of
Developing Countries 09/02/2012 Abstract The Third World was a term coined to distinguish nations
that neither aligned with the First World developed countries nor the Second World Communist
Countries during the Cold War. However, modern day usage denotes countries with low Human
Development Index (HDI) that suffer from political, social and economic underdevelopment. The
United Nations finds Third World term slightly pejorative and prefers the label less developed
countries (LDCs). Terminology notwithstanding, LDCs suffer from underdevelopment and poverty. At
the grassroots level, economic underdevelopment connotes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

People were killed, beaten and raped by the newly formed militias. The fighting disrupted food
production and famine spread through the region. Many foreign countries attempted to intervene by
supplying food and medical supplies but the clans refused to allow any outside interference. In 2006,
the Islamic Army began fighting the warlords in an attempt to restore government. However, Somalis
were undecided on the Islamic ideas and restoration attempts failed. Sociological Perspective Somali
population is filled with large groups of nomads and refugees seeking security away from the clans
and famine. Due to all the movement it is difficult to estimate the population accurately. The last know
official count was gathered by the Somali Government in 1975. Today, the best estimate that takes the
1975 data in account illustrates the population at approximately 10 million people. (CIA, 2012). The
average life expectancy for males is 48 years and women are only slight greater at 52 years. Compared
to the United States average life expectancy of 78, it is fair to say the Somali have a difficult and short
life. While living, it is impossible to find work. Jobs are scarce and tend to rely on livestock or
farming. However, even farming has been increasingly impossible since global trade has imported
foreign agriculture that under cuts domestic farmers. This import presents a burden for the Somali

Violence In Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon
Humans are drawn to acts of a primal nature. Raw, passionate, and vastly entertaining; primal instincts
have always been at the root of human behavior. Archeologists say that the first humans were found
with spearheads embedded in their ribcage. Mankind s curiosity will always be sparked by the thought
of bloodshed. Just look at the entertainment we as a species hold most dear; violent action films,
movies about war, videogames based solely on the concept of killing the opponent, the list in never
ending. The fascination around violent acts is understandable. Since the invention of society, the act of
killing another human has been frowned upon by the rest of society. The contrast of the acts of
violence to the norms of everyday life are hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mystery follows the escapades of Sam Spade as he hunts for the missing Maltese Falcon, and the
killer of his partner. Spade is described as a Blond Satan (1). This is not a rather flattering way of
describing your protagonist, and Hammett knew this. He knew that when solving crimes, one must
place himself into the mind of the criminals to truly understand their reasoning. To do this for a living
will take its toll, as Hammett knows all too well from his life as a private detective in L.A. His private
eye is gruff, cynical, and drinks far too much alcohol. Spade is known for being far too honest at times
saying, people lose teeth talking like that (94) when trying to gain information. These are the coping
mechanisms that Hammett gives Spade to show his readers the human aspects of him. Spade might
not be the most enjoyable company but if you give him a case to solve he will give his all to solving it.
This sounds like another brilliant detective from the past. Sir Doyle would understand why Sam Spade
is an effective detective just by looking at his habits. Sherlock Holmes and Sam Spade are akin to one
another in the fact that they are both fallible humans with a knack for solving mysteries. Hammett is
brilliant in the way he uses the influence of perhaps the first hardboiled detective to add a human side
to the private eye. This type of writing is far above the caliber expected of a pulp fiction author, and to
this day literary scholars site The Maltese Falcon was vastly ahead of any other work in its weight
class. (Smith, 178) Dashiell Hammett proved the worth of an entire subgenre, and helped the
hardboiled detective become a part of American literature. To this day, when people think of the
private eye they jump straight to the cliché of a tough man of few words drinking bourbon and hunting
down the bad guys in a dark city street. This is

Eurozone And The Eu Institutions Failed
Eurozone and the EU institutions failed to detect that. This undermines the ability of EU institutions to
deal effectively with challenges of integration of new members as well as opens the possibility that the
EU is not immune to similar occurrences in the future. Finally, since the onset of the European
economic crisis, the EU has accessed only one new member in 2013 Croatia. Thus, the stalling of EU
explanation since the octet of the crisis can undoubtedly be attributed at least partially to economic
factors. Ultimately, though, the long term effects of this crisis on EU integration cannot be

Yet, the economic growth of the region is slow in comparison to the established member states. In
addition, while established EU members are some of the least corrupt in the world and are established
liberal democracies, some of the new comers bring in corruption which further slows economic
growth and democratization in the region. Undoubtedly, slower economic and pro democratic
development in the Eastern Block prominently lowers the prospects for EU membership. In addition,
the popular attitudes in the established states that oppose accession of new Eastern European members
appears to also be shaped by these perceptions. Conventional Wisdom about EU Accession of Eastern
Europe The literature on the Eastern expansion of the EU is dominated by studies seeking to identify
the overall expectations of candidates and the motives for established states to approve or reject

Social Communication Skills With Diverse Work Populations
Having strong social communication skills as a Human Resources Manager, Supervisor, Generalist or

employees during times when personal, emotional, topics are being addressed. It has been my

and not necessarily an inherent trait. My goal is to help a team of Human Resources low to mid level
leaders to develop their social communication skills so that they may build deeper rapport with their

caught them and he jokingly stated that they just got hired in the psychiatric department. Kay had to
battle many thoughts, but one thing she wanted to do was make sure her struggle was known. She
wanted people to know of her struggle with manic depression, and help people with a similar struggle
in life. Kay says this herself, I am tired of hiding, tired of misspent and knotted energies, tired of the
hypocrisy, and tired of acting as though I have something to hide. When Kay was in first grade she
witnessed a plane crash during recces. She also got to volunteer at the hospital. The doctors would
invite her to watch surgeries. Her home life was kind of sad due to the fact that her dad also
experienced manic depression. He would have struggles when he would only want to sleep the day
away. Other times, he would be mad. The way Kay had to deal with growing up with her father s
struggle with manic depression helped shaped how she would respond to her own struggle with manic
depression. Kay s family moved to California when she was a teenager. She would drink alcohol

Ethical Issues In The Free State Of Jones
The Free State of Jones is based on the true story of Newton Knight who was a nurse for the
confederate army during the American Civil War. The movie begins by showing a battle and then
Knight coming through and pulling out some of the wounded and taking them to a field hospital. After
we witness the gruesomeness of the war we are showed Knight s and other s opinion on serving.
Director Gary Ross does this by having soldiers discuss a new law that states that if a man owns 20 or
more slaves he is dismissed from duty to return and run his plantation. Many of the soldiers are like
Knight who is poor and cannot afford to own any slaves. So, he is serving in a war for a side that
victory would not benefit him. That same night Knight s nephew Daniel showed up at camp. He is
extremely young but since he is poor and healthy he must serve. On Daniel s first day Newt
accompanies him into battle. During the battle Daniel is shot in the chest. Newt takes him back to the
doctors where he is denied help because they are only helping captains and officers due to the
overwhelming amount of bodies. Daniel ends up succumbing to his injuries and dies later that day.

An Analysis Of Dominic Pettman s The World Of The Planet...
Having a voice, whether it s a human or an animal, have a significance behind where it comes from,
where we get it from and what message it receives to another. In this case, to have a voice consist of
what it s used for and how it comes back to you in different reflections using sea and land animals and
humans. To have a voice in the planet we live, it involves with imitation, body language, melancholy
song with vocalization and similarities of the human species with the species of diverse animals and
vice versa. Dominic Pettman s, The Screech Within the Speech engages with the embodiment of the
human voice as it brushes against an animal in what Pettman calls vox mundi, or voice of the world.
Pettman begins with expressing the melancholy songs from whales and how it is personalized given
when they are lonely and more vocal when the ocean is at its loudest. I believe he then moves on to
the main objective to this piece: discovering the voice with vocalization and self reflection using
humans and different types of birds, explaining how compatible they both are using vocal expression
and body communication as a form of transmission and unintended imitation, resulting to a form of
conversation. Dominic Pettman, the author of this article, is a staff member of The New School in
New York City as the Chair of Liberal Studies, New school for Social Resources, a Professor of

Growing Up In The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros
In the novel, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the theme of growing up is prevalent
throughout the book. Throughout the novel, a young mexican girl named Esperanza goes through
experiences as she matures that involve her friends, society, dangers that expose her to the outside
world and help her to realize what the real world is like.
The first time Esperanza makes an appearance in the book, she is younger and easily manipulated,
especially by her friends. Esperanza meets a girl named Cathy, a snobby girl that lived on Mango
Street. When Cathy tells Esperanza Okay, I ll be your friend. But only until next Tuesday. That s when
we move away. Then as if she forgot I had just moved in, she says the neighborhood is getting bad

she seemingly just wants is to love, and Esperanza wants to be just like her. I like your black coat and

Question# 1
The geocentric view of the universe was long since developed in ancient Greece by an astronomer
named Claudius Ptolemy (AD 90 168). Ptolemy believed that the sun, stars and other planets revolved
around the earth. The idea of Geocentric means everything revolves around Earth. It wasn t long until
Nicolaus Copernicus (1473 1543), an astronomer from Poland came up with a new theory that the
solar system actually revolved around the sun. He invented the idea of a solar system. Revolutions
(1543) was Copernicus final work explaining the heliocentric view of the universe. The trouble was
that nothing he could say or do made people feel they were living on a moving, spinning planet

Germany s Geographical Features Of Germany
The country I was assigned to research is Germany. Germany s geographical features are its rivers
such as the Elbe River, the Danube River, the Weser River and the Rhine River. Germany was by poor
and weak areas that made it quite easy for imperialism to occur. Nonetheless, being by the water as a
coast was really beneficial to Germany, These Rivers helped Germany with receiving and trading
things such as health supply, weapons and food. In 1914, Germany s population was recorded at 67
million and Germany during World War One was registered at 137,846 square miles.
The type of government Germany had during WWI was called a Federal Republic. A Federal Republic
is a state in which the powers of the central government are restricted and in which the states, colonies
and or provinces retain a degree of self government. The official language for the country at the time
was German and the name of the currency used was called German Papiermark. The major religions
were both Catholicism and Christianity.
German people were perfectionists to say the least. The German people take pride in their ability to be
well organized and always strive for perfection. Germans do not accept their faults and were rarely
complimentary. German people may come across unfriendly but that is just in their nature to be stoic.
Germans were known to love pork and incorporate it into many of their meals. Something about a

Abraham was born a poor farmhand boy in Kentucky, but he moved from small cabins in Kentucky,

much exposure to slavery, although, these states did have black/slave laws. Lincoln got his first dose
of slavery at the age of eighteen when he was hired to take a flatboat down to New Orleans. I quote

bloodshed, but that didn t happen. At the beginning of the Civil War Lincoln believed that it was being
fought to preserve the union, but then he strongly believed it was because of the issue of slavery. Also
at first he believed that he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1863 as a war
measure, but then he realized that he wrote it because he knew that slavery was inhumane and he
needed to do something a bout it. So, in the winter of 1864 he pushed congress to pass an amendment
forever banning slavery. It was passed on January 31, 1865. Lincoln felt so strongly against slavery

The impacts of seatbelts in a car crash
The industrial revolution in the early 20th century lead to a boom in the production of automobiles. As
a result, revolutionized urban transportation. Earlier cars, were not built keeping in mind passenger
safety. This led to lot of fatal accidents, where many drivers and front seat passengers lost their lives.
The invention of the seat belt has dramatically improved passenger safety. The seat belt is a safety
device designed to retract and secure a driver or passenger in a vehicle to their seat.
It was first patented by an American inventor, Edward J. Claghorn in 1885. In the early 50s many car
companies started offering seatbelts. The Nash, Ford motor company and the Swedish firm Saab
adopted them early. It was around the same time that people increasingly started using seatbelts in the
US.
In 1955, a famous actor, James Dean died due to a two vehicle crash in the Southern California desert.
He would have likely survived this if he had been wearing a seat belt. The Dean crash raised public
awareness in the US about seat belt utilization in automobiles, and their possible advantages. The

They prevent serious injuries and death in a car crash but they are also capable of causing physical
issues that may not be visible until later. People might experience bleeding, bruising, weakness,
abdominal pain, breathing difficulties or a stiff neck. In some very rare cases wearing seat belts may
cause a person to be trapped in a vehicle, unable to evacuate when needed. This is still a minor
disadvantage as without the seatbelt the passenger may not be alive or conscious enough to be able to
rescue themselves. The risk of not wearing seatbelts is more serious and fatal compared to the few
disadvantages caused by them even so there are many arguments and points that people make to

Analytical Essay on The Notebook Film
In the early 1900 s silent films amazed audiences with images, later talkies impressed with sound,
today we have 3D. As technology continues to evolve so too will film genres. Genres, while having
some shared characteristics, also differ in terms of stylistic devices used. For instance, the dramatic
film The Notebook effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the two
main protagonists.
The Notebook directed by Nick Cassavetes in 2004 tells the story of a couple s fifty year long love
affair and its trials and tribulations. The film begins in a nursing home where an old man (Noah) reads
a book to an old lady (Allie) suffering from Alzheimer s. Noah, a poor country boy, and Allie, a rich
city girl, meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their facial expressions, gestures and movements make audiences empathize with the protagonists. In
the scene of their first quarrel Rachel McAdams cries, sobs, portrays despair and pleads to stay ,as
realistically as if she feels her character s emotions. In scenes of happy moments she smiles and
laughs sincerely, like when she listens to Noah (Ryan Gosling) sitting next to her. Ryan Gosling also
demonstrated his acting talents in the movie. His character is very romantic and faithful and the actor
expressed these traits very well. For instance, in the scene he first meets her he looks at her with
loving eyes, his eyebrows are raised a bit as he cannot stop admiring her. When other women try to
talk to him, he lets them see their attempts are futile via tone changes and hands crossed on his chest,
which express his love and faithfulness. Such a realistic actors performance reinforces the dramatic
plot.
Warm and pastel colors predominate in The Notebook . The creators intended to reinforce the theme
also by means of colors. Episodes, in which Allie and Noah are together, have more white, beige,
pink, light blue and green. For instance, Noah painted the house he restored in white color; the sky is
clear and blue when they are together. The white color of the house represents purity of Noah s love
and his devotion to Allie, and the clear

Zadie Smith s Two Men Arrive In A Village
Two Men Arrive in a Village (2016) written by Zadie Smith, is a short story following events that take
place in a West African Village, narrated by a woman belonging to that village. The story is a parable,
which is a symbolic story told with the purpose of teaching a spiritual lesson to its reader. Two Men
Arrive in a Village tells the ever repeating account of two men arriving in a village, striking fear into
its people, killing, raping and stealing from the villagers who inhabit it. Smith constructed the
narrative in such a way that it traces a story that occurs in various locations at once, parallel to a
specific situation, all taking place at the same time. By doing this Smith weaves a specific story and a
broad story together. While following the events in the African village, Smith s story also
encompasses a prevalent point, that men can feasibly appear at any location at any time bringing
destruction with them. The story begins with two seemingly friendly men arriving in a village. As the
story unfolds the men become less friendly and more detrimental, in the process of plowing through
the village unleashing bloody chaos . Even though the particular experience is not the story that
repeats itself, Smith s parable embodies the universal theme of power and violence all around the
world. The men reveal their true motives as soon as they walk around the village and begin to steal
possessions, all the while denying their true actions as stealing . Despite the villagers hospitality these
visits always follow a pattern. After meals are finished and drinks are sucked down Theft is their first
and least serious offense. They start by walking around the village casually taking items as trivial as a
cigarette, followed by a sly deceitful thank you . They will soon progress from pocket picking to
looting homes taking whatever they please, without running into confrontation from the villagers. The
men will always steal from the villages, ransacking pockets or houses taking anything from watches to
women. The thefts come easily to the men because no one will ever dare to stop them. The men
continue on to prove their dangerous intent by slaughtering the people of the village, causing the once

The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism Essay
The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism
U.S. foreign policy is plunging head first in its war on terrorism. Our focus is expanding and including
various dynamics that harbor American interests. By broadening our focus in our war on terrorism, we
are beginning to spread ourselves too thin. Therefore, we risk the danger of fighting too many battles
at once. Terrorism is a large issue that American foreign policy will not be able to tackle in the manner
it has set out to do.
Recently, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle voiced his concern over the direction the U.S. is
taking in its war on terrorism. He was criticized because his statements are one of the most critical
assessments to date of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war is beginning to be an excuse for the U.S. to go after its enemies. With the all encompassing
threat of terrorism, foreign policy is able to use play on words in order to have a justified reason to get
directly involved with other regions of the world. Our interests are at stake and there is not a better
time to assert such force. Congress is generously agreeing to aid the war and the world s support is on
our side. Under our foreign policy initiatives, we are able to manipulate reasons to include new
aspects that fall under threats of terrorism, thus threats to the national security of the United States.
The United State s consideration of deploying troops to the former Soviet Union republic of Georgia
aims to provide training and equipment to Georgian forces to patrol and combat the border shared
with Chechnya. There is evidence that fleeing Al Qaeda fighters, particularly in the Pinski Gorge area,
have joined Chechen rebels. Interestingly enough, Before September 11, Russia had faced regular and
harsh criticism from the West for alleged human rights violations and the use of excessive force in
Chechnya. After the attacks on the United States, the criticism was largely muted, ( Georgia ). The
events of September 11 have caused the State Department to now accuse the Russian government of
not doing enough to control Chechen rebels. Foreign policy has expanded to directly addressing the

Mrs Bennet Satirized Essay
Mrs. Bennet being satirized in Jane Austen s Pride and prejudice Jane Austen satirizes Mrs. Bennet for
her foolishness, lack of intelligence, being overly dramatic, and her obsession over marriage. It then
affects her relationships with her daughters and the connection they share, it also affects the
relationships with her neighbors, family, and friends as she comes off as pushy or annoying. In order
to ultimately criticize how Mrs. Bennet is overly involved in her children s life and unable to relax.
Mrs. Bennet is being satirized for her obsession over marriage. Throughout the novel, Mrs. Bennet s
main priority is to get all of her daughters married. For instance when Mrs. Bennet first heard about
Mr. Bingley moving in her first thought was how he would make such a good man for one of her
daughters to marry. Mr., Bennet says , Oh! single, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bennet is satirized for her lack of intelligence and how careless she is. For example when Lydia runs
away with Wickham she was all worried in the beginning but she then finds out that they are getting
married and she s is no longer sad and upset, suddenly she is happy and isn t mad at anyone. Mrs,
Bennet says, My dear, dear Lydia! she cried: This is delightful indeed! She will be married! I shall see
her again! She will be married at sixteen! My good, kind brother! I knew how it would be (247). This
shows satire because Mrs. Bennet should still be worried, her youngest daughter has still run away
from home but because Mrs. Bennet is careless and has different priorities it s okay. Mrs. Bennet also
gets satirized because in this passage she does not have the normal reaction of a mother, she is happy.
Also before Mrs. Bennet was given the news about Lydia being married Mrs. Bennet was so worried
and upset, she was blaming everyone and it was a horrible thing that she had run away but then she
heard the news and was excited and happy and back to her regular self

Third Way Essay
The Third Way separated itself from the old party s agenda and endeavored to border itself from the
Conservative governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major that ruled until 1997. Giddens, the
political theorist of the Third Way, believed the old class based divisions of the left and right were
redundant. He wanted to create no more than an outline of an integrated political programme, covering
each of the major sectors of society. Kramp argues such a massive initiative proved Giddens intent to
design a coherent political agenda and an alternative to total capitalism and complete socialism.
Kramp asserts Giddens believed that reformist governments could no longer rely on traditional statist
programmes claiming that campaigning from the centre would illicit mutual support while still
remaining dedicated to radical measures. A point Tony Blair included in his 1997 speech at the
European Socialists Congress, where he stated the Left had to modernise or die. He stressed to
Congress the need to abandon old left statist policies claiming .... our task today is not to fight old
battles but to show that there is a third way, a way of marrying together an open, competitive and
successful economy with a just, decent and humane society.

Othello: Hero or Stranger
Othello is a hero due to being a hardened and vicious warrior on the battlefield but he is also a tragic
hero in this play. A tragic hero by definition is a literary character who makes a judgment error that

he murders because he has been misled by the villainous Iago. Allowing himself to be manipulated

It seems to be an island with no people at it at first. The island has rivers and green trees. It seems to be a good place for people to love. Although it looks like a deserted island people can go and live their if they want to. If course if they want to survive they need to know how to built. The tempest is the cause of the story without it the story would not even exist or it would but in a different way. The story starts with a tempest that is destroying everything. Yet again without the tempest the whole story would could change into a wedding of Alonso s daughter. It would be nice for some people to read and some not because it would not be that interesting as it is now. Thank the tempest for the start or the beginning of the story that we read and loved. There is no doubt about it the tempest is the big cause that the story went to the history of some people that read the story. Now it is stuck in the people s life now and we can not get rid of it thank the tempest. Further more some of the characters have positive connotations. Throughout the novel Mulisch takes advantage of numerous motifs and expands their ability through a longstanding motif of water. He uses these themes to develop the central character Anton who works to conquer history and his own past. The motif of water is a strong decision by Mulisch that broadens the novel s overall depth and meaning . Some women might have been respected, but their places were limited to roles as wives and mothers. They might rule a home, but were not believed intelligent enough for any other role. This chauvinistic attitude is well reflected in the novels Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, and Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad. Women were forced to stand at the edges and look on from there because they simply weren t as important. It was the men who held the courts of justice and decided on punishment. Also, throughout the book, Achebe emphasizes the women s role in childbearing and their fault if the children are not born healthy. Nneka has had four previous pregnancies and childbirths. But each time she had borne twins, and they had been immediately thrown away. Her husband and his family were already becoming highly critical of such a woman and were not unduly perturbed when they found she had fled to join the Christians. She was not valued for her intelligence or her personality. She was valued by whether or not she could produce healthy children. Because she couldn t, she no longer had a place in her society. • 11. Women s Oppression Of Women The oppression of women is best described as a steel cage, crafted over the centuries by the hands of patriarchal powers, enslaving flightless and chirp less birds. Birds may be benevolent and gentle, yet they embody a power most ferocious amongst all creatures. Though, it is of no fascination as to why women, in being similar to birds, transform from powerful peoples to frail figures. The molestation of power from these birds is done by the hindering cage encompassing them. The thick bars of oppression slice the wings of the benevolent beings, strip the voice of the once vociferous, and above all destroy the benign life of the feminine. These feminine figures have the potential to provide light when light is dark, fly the silky sky, and, of utmost importance, break free from the shackles that bear them down. Yet, only a few women have been notably brave to do so, and thus have confronted the powerful patriarchal powers that serve to enslave them and earned the titles of feminists. Feminism is an evolving philosophy which serves to destroy the intellectual paradigm that women are subservient to males by nature. Yet, although feminism is essentially a product of the contemporary world, many figures in history have demonstrated pre feminist ethics of which has given birth to the philosophies of modern feminism. • 14. Reader Response In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini The Kite Runner Reader Response Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, has a writing style unique to him in a way that the majority of his sentences are short and non complex. Although there are numerous words in Farsi, most are explained right away to limit confusion. You look khoshteep , Baba said. Handsome ( Hosseini 166). Hosseini incorporates an abundance of figurative language in his book, an example of this is repetition. The line, There is a way to be good again is said several times throughout the book to show its significance in the novel (Hosseini 2). Figurative language is extremely important because it adds a meaning and value that is much stronger than saying it differently. Hosseini uses many symbols in his novel. One, in particular, shows the loss of friendship between Amir and Hassan, the pomegranate tree. In the beginning, Amir and Hassan would go to the tree to read stories and eat pomegranates. After school, Hassan and I climbed its branches and snatched its bloodred pomegranates (Hosseini 27 28). After Hassan had been raped, Amir and Hassan had gone back to the tree but this time the loss of friendship starts to show through. When Amir throws pomegranates at Hassan, it is him trying to get Haasan to punish Amir for what he had done wrong. Hit me back! I spat. Hit me back, goddamn you ! I wished he would. I wished he d give me the punishment I craved, so maybe I d finally sleep at night (Hosseini 92). Amir needs the punishment he deserves so badly from the awful things he did and now wants to live up to. Once Amir goes back to visit his home in Kabul, he finds the pomegranate tree that once was a symbol of friendship, and now the loss of just that. Hassan said in his letter that the pomegranate tree hadn t borne fruit in years. Looking at the wilted, leafless tree, I doubted it ever would again (Hosseini 264). The pomegranate tree shows how during their friendship, the tree was beautiful and full of life. Now that Amir has betrayed Hassan and left him to be killed, the tree is now lifeless and no fruit to be eaten symbolizing the end of their relationship. Another symbol that is extremely important is the flying of kites. This is significant because it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The problem was that many of the Nazi leaders were still out there, including Hermann Goering, the man responsible for starting and constructing the first of his many Concentration Camps. The case consisted of 13 separate trials for 22 leaders for the Nazi party, and many of whom received the death penalty. The trials were a symbolic representation of the death of Nazism, and the world uniting for a greater cause and for justice. In my eyes, Tyler was a man no one could understand, he had a past that made him who he is. I once fell in love with him. Knights and Dames created by Satirist, Leahy, is a satirical cartoon that attempts to address issues and provoke thoughts about today s political issues such as individuality and national identity. Hyperbole, situational irony and caricature are three of the satirical techniques used in this cartoon. This essay will aim to analyse the language features and satirical cartoons. Though Political satire is usually used to provide entertainment and humour, it is also used to expose absurdity and hypocrisy among the political world. In order to understand the concept and meaning of a political cartoon, the reader must have an insight of the current political status and issues or it would be difficult to comprehend the cartoon. The cartoon, Knights and Dames attempts to express the cartoonists opinion on the current Knights and Dames issue which is the reintroduction of the use of Sir and Madame. Knights and Dames are predominantly used throughout the United Kingdom. Tony Abbott, the man in the cartoon is shown in an unflattering light in order to make fun of him and his choices as prime minister. This mystery follows the escapades of Sam Spade as he hunts for the missing Maltese Falcon, and the killer of his partner. Spade is described as a Blond Satan (1). This is not a rather flattering way of describing your protagonist, and Hammett knew this. He knew that when solving crimes, one must place himself into the mind of the criminals to truly understand their reasoning. To do this for a living will take its toll, as Hammett knows all too well from his life as a private detective in L.A. His private eye is gruff, cynical, and drinks far too much alcohol. Spade is known for being far too honest at times saying, people lose teeth talking like that (94) when trying to gain information. These are the coping mechanisms that Hammett gives Spade to show his readers the human aspects of him. Spade might not be the most enjoyable company but if you give him a case to solve he will give his all to solving it. This sounds like another brilliant detective from the past. Sir Doyle would understand why Sam Spade is an effective detective just by looking at his habits. Sherlock Holmes and Sam Spade are akin to one another in the fact that they are both fallible humans with a knack for solving mysteries. Hammett is brilliant in the way he uses the influence of perhaps the first hardboiled detective to add a human side to the private eye. This type of writing is far above the caliber expected of a pulp fiction author, and to this day literary scholars site The Maltese Falcon was vastly ahead of any other work in its weight class. (Smith, 178) Dashiell Hammett proved the worth of an entire subgenre, and helped the hardboiled detective become a part of American literature. Having a voice, whether it s a human or an animal, have a significance behind where it comes from, where we get it from and what message it receives to another. In this case, to have a voice consist of what it s used for and how it comes back to you in different reflections using sea and land animals and humans. To have a voice in the planet we live, it involves with imitation, body language, melancholy song with vocalization and similarities of the human species with the species of diverse animals and vice versa. Dominic Pettman s, The Screech Within the Speech engages with the embodiment of the human voice as it brushes against an animal in what Pettman calls vox mundi, or voice of the world. As a result, revolutionized urban transportation. Earlier cars, were not built keeping in mind passenger safety. This led to lot of fatal accidents, where many drivers and front seat passengers lost their lives. The invention of the seat belt has dramatically improved passenger safety. The seat belt is a safety device designed to retract and secure a driver or passenger in a vehicle to their seat. It was first patented by an American inventor, Edward J. Claghorn in 1885. In the early 50s many car companies started offering seatbelts. The Nash, Ford motor company and the Swedish firm Saab adopted them early. His character is very romantic and faithful and the actor expressed these traits very well. For instance, in the scene he first meets her he looks at her with loving eyes, his eyebrows are raised a bit as he cannot stop admiring her. When other women try to talk to him, he lets them see their attempts are futile via tone changes and hands crossed on his chest, which express his love and faithfulness. • 43. Zadie Smith s Two Men Arrive In A Village Two Men Arrive in a Village (2016) written by Zadie Smith, is a short story following events that take place in a West African Village, narrated by a woman belonging to that village. The story is a parable, which is a symbolic story told with the purpose of teaching a spiritual lesson to its reader. Two Men Arrive in a Village tells the ever repeating account of two men arriving in a village, striking fear into its people, killing, raping and stealing from the villagers who inhabit it. Smith constructed the narrative in such a way that it traces a story that occurs in various locations at once, parallel to a specific situation, all taking place at the same time. By doing this Smith weaves a specific story and a broad story together. While following the events in the African village, Smith s story also encompasses a prevalent point, that men can feasibly appear at any location at any time bringing destruction with them. The story begins with two seemingly friendly men arriving in a village. As the story unfolds the men become less friendly and more detrimental, in the process of plowing through the village unleashing bloody chaos . Even though the particular experience is not the story that repeats itself, Smith s parable embodies the universal theme of power and violence all around the world. The men reveal their true motives as soon as they walk around the village and begin to steal possessions, all the while denying their true actions as stealing . Despite the villagers hospitality these visits always follow a pattern. After meals are finished and drinks are sucked down Theft is their first and least serious offense. They start by walking around the village casually taking items as trivial as a cigarette, followed by a sly deceitful thank you . They will soon progress from pocket picking to looting homes taking whatever they please, without running into confrontation from the villagers. The men will always steal from the villages, ransacking pockets or houses taking anything from watches to women. The thefts come easily to the men because no one will ever dare to stop them. The men continue on to prove their dangerous intent by slaughtering the people of the village, causing the once calm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
