Patient Engagement Intervention
Analysis of Implemented Patient Engagement Interventions Designed by Health System CEOs
In the article Ten Strategies To Lower Costs, Improve Quality, And Engage Patients: The View From
Leading Health System CEOs discusses the results following the implantation of strategies that aim to
decrease the cost of care and increase its quality to satisfy both patients and health care organizations.
The authors in order as listed in article are: Delos M. Cosgrove, Michael Fisher, Patricia Gabow, Gary
Gottlieb, George C. Halvorson, Brent C. James, Gary S. Kaplan, Jonathan B. Perlin, Robert Petzel,

Patient centeredness means designing a strategy that prioritizes the patient s well being which includes
meeting their needs and preferences, as well as accommodate their circumstances. In order to design
strategies and identify key factors, the authors The authors collected survey data from their own
experiences in providing care. Upon analyzing the surveys, the authors selected ten factors that would
then serve as an imperative Checklist for all their operations. The implementation of patient engaged
care required the authors organizations to make changes in the following five categories: delivering
evidence based care, developing team based approach and inclusion of patients and their families in
making health care decisions, increasing efficiency of care delivery, innovative way of providing care,
and targeting care to accommodate the needs of patient and community. The success and sustainability
of patient engaged programs depend on the degree of patient

Sexually Transmitted Infections And Young Adults
Sexually Transmitted Infections in young adults
Justin Dwayne Wood

Background Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in young adults have been a concern of mine
since I was in high school. I grew up in California and it seemed that the spread of STIs was always
talked about. I lived about one and a half hours from San Francisco and the transmission of HIV
always seemed that it was a problem in that area. I grew up afraid that if I had sex I would contract a
STI the first time I had sex. This was mostly due to concern the school made of STIs. During my high
school years we had several classes on sex education. These classes seemed to put more effort on
abstinence than anything else. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The U.S. has spent over one billion dollars on abstinence only programs that do not work, it is time
that the U.S. governments starts investing in to a program that will work. I believe that the best way to
help prevent the passing of STIs is through proper education. Our young adults deserve to know the
proper way to protect themselves and the risk of having unprotected sex. Without proper education on
prevention methods our STI rates will not drop. These education methods need to be delivered in way
that is appropriate as well, they must be able to get the class involved on the topic and make sure that
they understand it. I know that when I was in school anytime we had a sex education class it was
delivered in a way where questions were not easily asked. It was more of a situation where you are
told the information and do not need to worry about it afterwards which is completely wrong. The
information that people learn on sex in schools will be with them for the rest of their life. It needs to
be good information that will assist them in make appropriate decisions on sex. Most people will
eventually have sexual intercourse at some point in their life that is why it is so important that the
information they receive teaches them how to protect themselves against not only STIs but, unwanted
sexual advances. There is also the family that

Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse
Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make
psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and stones may
break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents universally to justify
name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen wounds of words. These
wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse and can be ensured, worsened, or
inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are pushed on children from birth and
throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all people must live by in their society. This string
of abuse has left a countless number of victims in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse
is regrettably a more common part of our society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work,
Know About Abuse, as an, harmful, injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only
limited to the physical signs, such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming
bruises from the drop of a fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by
hateful, derogatory, or misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they
have managed to integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such
forms. This affect of chronic name calling can be seen in Stacy A. Teicher s, Boys vs. Girls:

Tim Elam Dinosaurs
Tim Elam along with his partner, Travis Bibee, entertained us with a fascinating presentation on
dinosaurs. It was quite amusing to watch him through it. The jokes were absolutely dad jokes which I
believe keep you focused on the topic. They went over dinosaurs characteristics, aesthetically and
anatomically and they also spoke about who created the names of the fossils and creatures. Tim Elam
informed us about dinosaurs being similar worldwide, with evidence of fossils, because the land was
one at that time. Through time and division of land they began to adapt and change slightly. They
spoke about saurischian versus ornithischian. There are various different between these two orders but
the most distinguishable ones are the hips.

Is the embedded derivative closely related? In the event it is, the contract cannot be bifurcated and
must be considered as a whole, though ASC 815 40 15 2 discusses contracts that are indexed to and
potentially settled in an entity s stock. Additionally, ASC 815 15 35 2 offers an alternative solution if
the embedded derivative cannot be reliably measured or identified, and that is to assign a fair value to
the entire contract, with gains and losses across reporting periods flowing through earnings. ASC 480
10 10 1 gives the objective of ASC 480 as the requirement to classify as a liability a freestanding
financial instrument that embodies obligations for the issuer. It states in ASC 480 10 15 3 that
freestanding financial instrument could include one with traits of equity and liability. It places a
restriction on these instruments in ASC 480 10 15 5 by disallowing features embedded in a financial
instrument that is not, in its entirety, a derivative, making the use of ASC 480 an all or nothing
proposition since the guidance encompasses the financial instrument in its entirety (ASC 480 10 25 1).
The contract between Hearts and Bionic contains obligations as defined by the ASC 480 that are
conditional and/or unconditional, such as the contingent redemption right. ASC 480 20 30 7 requires
fair value for financial instruments under ASC 480.

St. Patrick Research Paper
St. Patrick of Ireland is one of the world s most popular saints. He was born in Roman Britain and
when he was fourteen or so, he was captured by Irish pirates during a raiding party and taken to
Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. At the time, Ireland was a land of Druids and pagans but
Patrick turned to God and wrote his memoir, The Confession. In The Confession, he wrote: The love
of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was roused, so that, in a
single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same. I prayed in the
woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain. Patrick s
captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions. After years of living in
poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461. He died in Saul, where he had
built the first Irish church. He is believed to be buried in Down Cathedral, Down Patrick. His grave
was marked in 1990 with a granite stone. In His Footsteps: Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man,
whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. So
complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission, he feared nothing not even death.
The Breastplate, Patrick s poem of faith and trust in God: Christ be within me, Christ behind me,
Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath
me, Christ above me, Christ inquired, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in
mouth of friend and stranger. Legend credits St. Patrick with teaching the Irish about the doctrine of
the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a three leafed plant, using it to illustrate the
Christian teaching of three persons in one God. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it
may be older. The shamrock has since become a central symbol for St Patrick s

Considerations of Food Safety
Food safety is one of the primary concerns in our industry, especially to those who process food in
large amounts. Therefore, proper sanitation must be provided in order to destroy microorganisms that
could possibly spoil and contaminate food products. Sanitizers are substances used to reduce and
inhibit most microorganisms present in surfaces of equipment and utensils. They are usually in the
form of liquid mixture applied directly on the surface of equipment or any material that may come in
contact with the food (Parker, 2007). In 2007, Harrison and Davidson revealed that the most common
sanitizers used in foods are hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics. However, in
2009, Schmidt discovered that use of these chemicals could cause corrosion, discoloration of products,
and distortion of flavor and odor (see Appendix). Also, carelessly handling of these chemicals could
also risk the personnel performing sanitation. Because of the hazardous effects of these chemicals
(hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics) in food industry, there is a necessity to
find alternative methods to further reduce microorganisms. At the same time, it should also have less
effect to the quality of the food being tested. Bacteriocin, a substance produced by microorganisms,
plays a defensive role in prohibiting invasion of strains or species. Thus, it could serve the purpose of
a being a sanitizer since it has high anti microbial activity. This substance,

Public And Private Sector Accounting
Introduction
The major debate in accounting is about the appropriateness of adopting the private sector accounting
standards and practices to the public sector. Some researches support there is no distinction between
the public and the private sector. For example, McGregor (1999) thought these two sectors are
primarily similar in physical characteristics of assets. However, the against side believes that in some
public activities, the application of accounting standards for public sector entities is inconsistent with
the business sectors (Guthrie, 1998; Barton, 1999).
This report concerns on evaluating three major issues between public and private sectors accounting:
1) a sector neutral approach chosen by accounting regulators; 2) the impact of applying a sector
neutral approach to public sector accounting; 3) the adequate information generated by current
approach meet the different information needs of users from public and private sectors.
After the Introduction, I will analysis these three issues by providing critiques and literature reviews
on different opinions in following section and give a conclusion.
Literature review and Evaluation
The public sector is one of the most important sectors of any countries. The public sector entities offer
services, goods or programs to public for non profit purpose. However, the private sector is mainly
composed by for profit entities. In this report, I will regard the public sector entities as government or
government controlled

How To Be Remembered Sir Isaac Newton
When asked about how he would be remembered Sir Isaac Newton once said, I do not know what I
may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore,
and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, while
the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me(bio.com) Today, one of the most highly
regarded scientists is still Sir Isaac Newton. He should be remembered as the father of modern
physics. Sir Isaac Newton was born on Jan 4, 1643 or according to December 25,1642 in Woolsthorpe,
England. He never knew his father because he died before he was born and his mother remarried when
he was three (bio.com). His mother moved in with his stepfather but she left him to be raised by his
maternal grandmother Newton was educated at the King s School in Grantham which taught Latin and
Greek but very little math. After the death of his stepfather, his mother wanted him to quit school to
become a farmer. His mother was later convinced to allow him to re enroll at the school by the
headmaster Henry Stokes (Wikipedia). After he was finished studying at the King s School in
Grantham, his uncle convinced his mother to allow him to enroll at University of Cambridge Trinity
College. While there he was not known as one of the brightest pupils recieving no academic
honors(bio.com). During his time studying at the University of Cambridge Trinity College, Newton

Essay about Retrial Queues Systems
Retrial Queues have been widely investigated in different frameworks by various researches. The
pioneer work on retrial queues can be found in the work of Purohit et al(2005) and survey papers by
Arteljo (2000) Choi et al. (1992) considered an M/M/1 retrial queueing system in which the retrial
time has a general distribution and only the customer at the head of the queue is allowed to retry for
service. There has been rapid growth in the literature on retrial queues since then. Armero et al. (1998)
deals with the statistical analysis from bulk arrival queues. The focus of this investigation is on the
usual measures of performance of the system in equilibrium. Rajagopalan et.al (2000) investigated

communication networks. He investigated analytical treatment of an M/G/1 retrial queues with general

Six Sigma Reflection
The first guest speaker that spoke to our class was David Klug. He came to talk about Six Sigma and
LEAN Integrations. He used to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and this is where he first
started to implement these programs. He no longer works there, but his presentation what over this
company and how they adapted to the Six Sigma and LEAN programs. Right away he said something
that caught my attention and that was that he emphasized that the culture of the business is the key in
implementing these programs and without culture a company will not be successful. We found out
throughout the presentation that that statement was very true. Six Sigma is a methodology that uses
tools to improve an organization. The tools assist in identifying the customer requirements and
conducting data analysis. Lean is a methodology that focuses on streamlining a process of eliminating
waste. The tools help make the process visible which assists in identifying opportunities to optimize
the process flow and reduce time.
Of course the slide that had percentages on it caught my eye due to liking numbers and math so much.
It was interesting for me to hear him talk about what would happen if 99.9% were acceptable. Some of
the examples were like two unsafe plane landings per day at O Hare airport in Chicago and 500
incorrect surgical operations each week . These examples just show that companies are always having
to know what they are doing and what needs to be improved to make sure

Introduction to 802.11 WLAN A WLAN is a network that helps to attach two or more devices using
wireless techniques like spread spectrum. It access in limited area like schools, colleges,
organizations, offices, and computers labs etc. This helps the clients to access even while roaming
near about that area and still they remain connected with network. In the industries or complexes,
wireless LANs helps the customers to access to the internet and they can access without any
installation, giving these users wireless access to the full resources and services to industries, colleges
and complexes throughout their buildings and campuses. The main benefit of WLAN is that it can be
used anywhere throughout its range, hence it is known for its mobility. With the help of WLAN the
network users can access to the internet to its nearby places without any restrictions. There are many
more advantages of WLAN include its cost effective and easy to setup in big buildings and
organizations. Because it s very difficult to setup wire in old and big buildings, in WLAN we can
modify anything easily because of less wiring as well as the installation cost is very less as compare to
wired network. The other feature for WLAN include cost WLANs is backbone for the regular users
who access to the internet every day, giving them anytime, anywhere network access. WLAN gives

Genetically Foods Should Be Approved For Human Consumption
Genetically engineered foods are defined as foods that have had genes from other animals or plants
(hereby referred to as foreign genes) added onto their genetic codes. The genetic engineering
technique can be employed on animals, plants, or on such microorganisms as bacteria (NIH). The
question of whether foods derived from such organisms should be approved for human consumption is
what has raised widespread controversy among many circles. There are those who view GM foods as
the ultimate solution to major challenges of the 21st century while others see them as a threat to
human health and the environment. Notably, the global society is facing major challenges key among
them being food insecurity and environmental issues such as global warming and climate change.
Genetically engineered foods present a potential solution to these challenges. This paper will argue
that with adequate research and regulation, genetically engineered foods should be approved owing to
the benefits they present in terms of increased food production and quality, as well as eliminating the
need to compromise the environment in the pursuit of more cultivation land and higher crop yield. In
my view, we certainly need genetically engineered foods to fight food insecurity that characterizes the
global society. A look at related statistics denotes a population that is facing serious food security
challenges. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated 795 million
individuals

Gentrification And Displacement Essay
Gentrification and displacement is not talked about as much as other social problems. Gentrification
happens when rich people come to urban communities and change the socioeconomic and cultural
characteristics of a community. Gentrification around the world is mainly happening in poor urban
communities. The comparison of the Netherlands, London and Vancouver will explain cultural, social,
and political displacement caused by the new age of urban renewal. Big corporations build up urban
communities which bring economic stability to neighborhoods, and the low income residents are
forced out. With an increase in social economic input into the community rent is increased, food cost

Gentrification is a problem that every country and city has experience rather they know it or not.
Countries are affected by this process and many of its civilians are left with nowhere to call their
home. Communities where they once lived turn into places they ve never seen before. To be forced out
of their own communities is only hurting the economic system of that city and/or country. The people
that are being displaced are minorities and being forced out their community is killing their cultural.
The residents will not be able to raise their children the same way they were brought up. For example,
going outside and playing with the neighborhood children. The minorities that are getting kicked out
will not able to stick together as a whole when moving to a different location. Each resident might
move to different countries or cities as a final resort where prices of rent or mortgage will be lower.
Some solutions that countries can use to limit or exterminate gentrification together would be; helping
the poor residents through government assistances. Some residents do not have the proper income to
continue living in the communities once the government or other companies step in and attempt to
renovate the community. Another solution to this social problem would be if the government was
more involved in helping the residents that are forced out to find better housing or something similar

Summary Of Immigrants And Crime Statistics
This article has brought up the truth when it comes to immigrants and crime statistics. With the
upcoming American elections, the topic of immigrants is widely debated and discussed upon.
Statistics which are given indicate that crime rates for immigrants are increasingly high. This instills
moral panic in communities when there is no reason evident reason to be afraid. The crime statistics of
immigrant crimes are exaggerated and emphasized upon. Crime rates as the article mentioned are low.
Immigrants are not solely responsible for committing crimes. Moral panic occurs since the elections
and Donald Trump is creating fear and hostility towards immigrants. The presentation of crime
statistics is heavily weighed upon. In order to validate a claim, statistics are used. This is what this
article indicates. Mr. Trump is using dated statistics to support his claim of dangerous immigrants.
These accusations can evidently make immigrants feel as if they are targeted by politicians which in
turn, can result in marginalization. The correlation of immigrants and crime rates is a myth. The media
portrays immigrants to be dangerous and responsible for crimes. This is not the case; not all

Persuasive Essay On Privacy And Privacy
Privacy in the 21st century is constantly violated. Any life, or even your own life, could potentially be
in danger by sharing locations accidentally, which could change one s future. Such danger might be
due to location services, which anyone can be easily found. On Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram
applications, people can be tracked by using their whereabouts which are easily accessible. GPS
locations can be hacked, leading one to dangerous situations such as encountering physical harm.
Once again, due to advanced technologies in the 21st century, our society faces major challenges due
to public access putting privacy at risk. Global Positioning Systems, otherwise known as GPS, create a
worldwide problem for users of social media. People s lives and their privacy are certainly affected by
this searching, tracking, and misleading location tracking. Almost all of people that has a phone uses
social media. It is oblivious to social media users who use the latest apps cause the main issues that
can put internet users in danger. Thieves and criminals lurk the internet, waiting to fool someone and
steal from them, like personal information. They have learned how to hack technology to find out
where people live and what they are doing on a daily basis. Social media creators that create an app
with applications don t think of issues that is can threaten personal safety. When Snapchat first
launched its Snap Map feature, it was derided by parents and privacy advocates as a way

Overview of Key Evidence of the Prosecution
Richard Scrushy, former Chief Executive Officer of HEALTHSOUTH Corporation, was ultimately
charged with one count of conspiracy, ten counts of money laundering, thirteen counts of wire fraud,
seven counts of mail fraud, two counts of securities fraud and lying to United States investigators, two
counts of falsifying statements, and one count of falsifying certifications. The charge of securities
fraud led to a probe of possible insider trading in his sales of HEALTHSOUTH stock. There is
evidence which supports that HEALTHSOUTH S administration began fraudulently cooking the
books in the mid 1990s in an effort to build a sophisticated corporate Empire by:
· defrauding the system of payment (Medicare),
· increasing returns by playing on the vulnerability of citizens through over servicing and
overcharging,
· cutting the costs of care by understaffing, under resourcing and under servicing, or
· by a combination of any two or more of these.

Modeling And Simulation Of The Supply Chain Complexity...
Chapter 5 Modeling And Simulation Of The Supply Chain Complexity With Product And Demand
Characterisation
In the real world, supply chains are more complex, an information exchange difficult, since real
demand and delivery times seldom are known. To reproduce this unpredictability to a certain extent,
we have order and delivery delays as well as no information sharing between the sites. A supply chain
contains different flows. The information flow and the physical the product flow are considered.
Real System: If implementing a simulation for a real system, collect input and output data where
applicable to use during the validation and simulation process. For a virtual system, the quality of the
data and understanding its origin is significant to the validation process according to Law and Kelton.
Modeling: In a first step the real system is analyzed and a model of it is specified. The level of
abstraction depends on the goal of the simulation. The modeling can be done in a general
programming language like UML, a Visio chart or in Mathematica. The resulting formal model is
checked for its suitability against the real system.
Implementation: After the system has been abstracter to a model, the model is implemented in a
simulator. The simulator contains the physical model, which has to be verified against the formal
model.
Model Validation : Conclusions need to be reached from a valid system to achieve the set objectives.
The validation process determines that the

failed to mention where slavery derived from. As wrongful as slavery is it has been installed in our
history for centuries. A reference to Ancient Egypt could have easily been made and just like then it
was used to build a foundation of civilization. Slavery, indenture servants, immigration and planters
all functioned in a cycle, which seemed to work but after long term failed. Planters needed labor to be
done and immigrants wanted a way out from British rule so they sold themselves either into slavery or
as an indenture servant. As an indenture servant they were contracted anywhere from 3 to 7 years and
freed. Slavery on the other hand continued and was instilled into the culture. Galenson explains how
servants at one point were worth more than slaves. Overtime the two flopped and slaves were of
demand and the reason for that was due to cost. Planters realized they could train the slaves to pick up
a trade and replace the indenture servants. This way they would be spending

Explore the similarities and differences in the presentation of female characters in A Streetcar Named
Desire and The World s wife
In this essay, I will be exploring the similarities and differences of female characters in A Streetcar
Named Desire by Tennessee Williams; and The World s Wife by Carol Ann Duffy. Both texts denote
women as somewhat weak and incompetent and as having a predatory attitude towards the mainly
dominant male characters. A Streetcar Named Desire was written in 1945 and it initially connected
with America s new found taste for realism following the Great Depression and World War II. William
s based the character of Blanche on his sister who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Williams
himself was homosexual, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Streetcar Named Desire , the reader is able to see Stella fulfil the role of a protective mother
when agreeing to send Blanche to a mental institution. Despite Blanches shocking accusations, Stella
must ignore her sister for the sake of her child. Eunice says to her you done the right thing, the only
thing you could do. The reader is able to see the role of a female friend. In this case Eunice supports
Stella through the difficult time. This is similar to Queen Herod as in the poem, Duffy shows her as
having a lack of sense when it comes down to her baby daughter. Kill each mother s son. Do it. Spare
not one. Her sheer ruthlessness has been brought to light. In Queen Herod , Duffy also makes
references to friendship and sisterhood. The black Queen scooped out my breast, this quote shows that
women are willing to help each other in their times of need.
The traditional qualities of a wife are subverted in Medusa . Duffy presents Medusa as a woman who
has been engulfed by jealousy, caused by her adulterous husband. My brides breath soured stank in the
grey bags of my lungs. This quote displays that Medusa was once young and beautiful, but as a result
of marriage has become hideous. This contrasts with the character of Stella in A Streetcar Named
Desire , who is a devoted and loving wife despite the way Stanley behaves towards her. He didn t
know what he was doing....He was

Example Of Research Synthesis Essay
Another possible drawback hindering this type of research is the fact that testing for LSD is not as
clear as testing for alcohol where results can quickly be obtained via a breathalyzer test. Standard drug
tests which screen for other recreational drugs such as marijuana, do not usually test for lysergic acid,
therefore it would be harder to determine whether a driver is under the influence of the drug. When
under the influence of the drug, the pupils do dilate, however personal disparities in eye shape and size
can distort the evidence and make it more difficult to determine whether a person has taken LSD or
simply has the genetic trait of having larger than average pupils. Therefore, if a drug of these

The Road American Pier By George Orwell Analysis
The Road to Wigan Pier, a novel by George Orwell is a masterpiece depicting the working class of
England during economic depression from Orwell s experience and perspective. In the novel Orwell
dives deep into to the social reality of 1930s British society and explore the social and economic
struggle that prevails through Europe. Struggles depicted in the novel are part of the larger picture in
which Orwell addresses society s leaning towards more socialist ideals and governmental systems.
Orwell s account is specifically of England however his experience is indicative of conditions in most
countries across the European continent. Separated into two explicit parts, Orwell s novel begins in
part one informing of Orwell s personal experience of reporting on the working conditions, housing,
and unemployment of the northern regions of England specifically industrial towns. What stands out
in this sections are really the reality of how poor working conditions were for miners. He describes
having to travel for an hour in three to four feet tunnels to get to the coal dismantling area. The worst
of the coal miner misery was definitely within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the European heart during this time. A time in which it felt that the English depression and even the
Great Depression felt like the capitalist way of government had failed. People were experience what
they thought capitalism brought about. The novel doesn t only push you towards socialism and
socialist ideas it really just turns you away from the persistent capitalism ideals that many felt led to
the depressions. Orwell seems to gauge the misunderstanding many have of socialism as well. This
could be because the war has made everyone see socialism simply as a disguise for

In The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe and My mistress eyes by William Shakespeare they both use strong
imagery. Imagery in both of these poems helps set the tone, theme, and helps convey their messages in
their poems. Shakespeare uses imagery as a way to compare his mistress to typical beauty standards
during the 1800s. My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun usually during this time when dedicating a
poem or writing a poem to a significant other they use strong hyperboles. Coral is far redder than her

One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich Essay
Solzhenitsyn s book, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, is a well written piece of literature that
describes in stunning detail the life that may await a Zek in the Gulag System. One Day in the Life of
Ivan Denisovich is not spread over an extended period of time, but about a single day from reveille to
when Ivan Denisovich s eyes close that night. This allows for a more critical and unshrouded view of
what Denisovich is thinking while performing menial tasks such as eating, walking to the work site,
and observing those around him. Denisovich tells the reader about the people around him and his
thoughts on their character. For example, Senka was a quiet, luckless fellow. One of his ear drums had
been mashed in 41. Through this constant observation, Solzhenitsyn gives the readers further insight
into the everyday lives of these those who were in the Gulag System. Denisovich also tells the reader
about his wife and home, which is seen in glimpses through their rare letters. The work Denisovich
does is described in a constant flow, just as it was performed at that time. The only breaks that are
obvious in Solzhenitsyn s book are meals which break up work and leisure periods. The meals are
when Denisovich really pays attention to the people around him; he observes whether people take off
their hats like he does, and creates assumptions about their character by the way they ... Show more

Analysis Of The Maltese Falcon
According to our text book The Maltese falcon is considered one of the first hard boiled noir films,
although it doesn t have the artistic, noirish lighting that later films develop. Film noir is typically
dark, morally, and cinematically, with a male protagonist in conflict with criminals, and usually a
femme fatale, as an antagonist. This movie wasn t easy to follow, but after the third viewing, I think I
figured it out. There are many twists and turns, but Sam Spade manages to stay one step ahead of the
king pin, Gutman, and the others who are after the falcon. At first, I thought that Spade was all in for
the money, however, he was giving the police just enough info to keep them involved, and out of the
way, but nothing about the bird.

School Uniforms In The United States
Today in the US, only 19% of schools are reported to have school uniforms. A decade before that, it
was 12%. The amount is increasing, but the problem is the popularity of the move is decreasing.
School uniforms hinder students and parent more than they actually help.
A Brooklyn Park Charter School sent some kids home for wearing the wrong uniform. Two brothers
were sent home early on their first day of school for not having the correct uniforms in Brooklyn Park
on Tuesday. The children wore the same outfit to school that they wore last year, which school leaders
allowed at the time. But this year, the boys were put in a room away from others where they weren t
even allowed to talk before being sent home. It s hard to spend $35 on a sweatshirt then you have to

The First Amendment of the US Constitution gives us the right as individuals to express ourselves

can be eliminated. Bullies are smart. They will just find some other way to show status. Who has the

Organ Donation For An Organ Transplant
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services 18 people die each day
waiting for an organ transplant. They also state that one organ donor can save up to eight lives. Those
are significant numbers that should make us very much aware of the monumental impact organ
donation can have on the lives of so many critically ill patients and their families. Although the
tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s
family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ
transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and
death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient
who cannot be saved.
There are two sources for donor organs. The first source removes organs from recently deceased
people. These organs are called cadaveric organs. A person becomes a cadaveric organ donor by
indicating that they would like to be an organ donor when they die. This decision is usually noted
either on a driver s license or on a health care directive. (Ethics of Organ Transplantation, 2004) The
second source for donor organs is a living person. Living donors are often related to the patient, but
that is not always the case and certainly does not have to be the case. The one factor that must occur
for cadaveric organ donation to be possible is brain death. Brain death is defined as

Analysis Of The Book Emerald City Essay
Some stories can impact a culture so universally, that there is no longer a way to say a phrase without
immediately making a connection. The automatic finish to yellow brick is road and there can never be
a book that has a City of Emeralds because we would all think it was a reference to L. Frank Baum s
Emerald City. This pseudo magical city, and its represen¬tation in any given version of The Wizard of
Oz, provides a very specific insight into the cultural views of the time period it was created during and
the people who formed that specific creative vision. For Baum, the Emerald City was a representation
of how little we can trust the government in spite of its good intentions; Fleming s 1939 film
emphasizes the benefits of home by displaying more faith in the government; and Lumet s 1978 film
plummets into a general disenfranchisement with the ubiquitous establishment.
The original Emerald City of Baum s Wonderful Wizard of Oz was marketed not only as the home of
OZ the Great and Terrible, but also as a utopia for the citizens of Oz to live within and prosper.
However, this façade crumbles at the end of the book when Dorothy and her friends discover that the
green of the Emerald City is no more [green] than any other city (Baum 153) and the entire city is a
hoax of green eye glasses. While many see Baum s Emerald City s fallible nature as a commentary on
the use of dollar bills based from a gold standard, it can also be interpreted as commentary on the
ideas of

of the facts that immigrates are looking for in America. All these privileges are not enough for them to

Mira Nair, show two different stories about how the new family in America struggle with the parent s

The Zookeeper s Wife
The opening scene of the Zookeeper s Wife is vital in establishing the binary between the oasis of the
zoo before the war and the destruction the war brings. Natural sunlight fills the first scene of the film
and green is a common color found throughout the zoo. The first scene oozes natural beauty and
signifies the life that occupies it. The zoo seems almost too perfect, like it could not possibly be a
creation of man, but of one gifted from the heavens. The zoo begins as the Garden of Eden in the
midst of Poland, but as the war erupts, it mimics the original sin, destroying the zoo turning its
sanctuary into a thing of the past. The ash from the ghettos covers the zoo and literally represents
destruction of not only the ghetto but, the former

The Historical 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
One of the most greatest appearing earthquake in San Francisco in the year of 1906. It was
approximately 7.8 earthquake. The earthquake had hit buildings, schools, streets and houses. Killing
hundreds of people and injuring thousands. This earthquake began at an opera house and ended up all
throughout the streets in San Francisco. The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by
examining the earthquake, the spread of fire, and the aftermath of the worst natural disasters.
The night before the quake it was an average typical night in the windy city of San Francisco. World
famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music had
filled the building up with his beautiful singing. Enrico s voice was like a thunderbolt which seemed
to be rocking the Opera House. Little did the payed audience have knowledge of that an earthquake
was going to come in a matter of hours. Not only that but this earthquake was going shatter the city
into piece by piece, and destroy San Francisco including the Opera House. The earthquake had shook
the ground within twenty to twenty five seconds. Then, at 5:12 a.m., it had erupted and began it s
terror on the city. Furthermore, the earthquake was felt from Los Angeles to southern Oregon and as
far as central Nevada. The earthquake was bursting through the northern region in four hundred thirty

Case Study: Royal Bank of Canada in Thailand
1. What were RBC s ultimate goals in opening a representative office in Thailand?
When RBC opened a representative office in Thailand in the early 1980 s, its ultimate goal was to
obtain a full branch license. RBC felt that Thailand had the potential to become a regional financial
center, and they certainly wanted to have an established presence in a country with this sort of
opportunity. RBC also had the corporate goal of increasing the amount of its business generated from
non Canadian sources. With RBC locations in Asia already accounting for 16% of their total
international earning assets, opening a new branch in Asia seemed likely to help achieve the bank s

6. What are Thailand s most important exports?
Thailand s most important exports are tourism and manufactured products. Manufactured products
such as: clothing, electronic parts and components, furniture, and jewelry account for 81% of the
nation s export volume. With seven million people going to Thailand each year, tourism accounts for
13% of the country s total export revenue.
7. What is the current (1997) situation in Thailand?
After a decade of sustained growth, the current situation in Thailand is one of unprecedented
economic turmoil. The countries exports have halted, foreign investors have become hesitant with
their money due to the account deficit, the stock market plummeted, and big loans made by banks
have caused a large accumulation of debt. Typical causes of an economic crisis, such as: high debt,
large current account deficit, deregulation of the banking industry without proper controls in place,
and a semi fixed exchange rate are all at the forefront of the nation s current economic state.
8. What are the highlights of the IMF s bailout of Thailand?
The IMF s bailout of Thailand was an agreement that would give the Thai government $16.7 billion in
loans in exchange for the country adopting a tough program of economic and financial reforms. These
reforms required the closing of 16 finance firms; these 16 firms would either have to merge with other
banks, or submit their own rehabilitation plan. This agreement with the IMF

Adoption Of Ideas
In the modern corporate landscape continued adoption of new ideas and methodologies is vital to
success, however there are certain barriers which prevent the adoption of novel ideas. It is of
paramount importance to organisations to demystify the factors which hold back the implementation
of new ideas. Ideas include but are not limited to innovative concepts regarding new products, new
processes and new approaches to management. In this essay, I will explore the main barriers facing
idea adoption namely risk aversion of organisations to radical new ideas, unhealthy working
relationships between supervisors and subordinates, poor organisational culture and adoption of
disruptive new technologies.
One explanation for the failure of adoption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that another barrier to implementation of new ideas is the loyalty an employee feels
towards the organisation and how secure he/she feels in their position. There is strong indication in
research conducted by Burris et.al (2008) that both loyalty and openness of employees to new ideas
are affected negatively if there is a breakdown in the relationship between the employee and the
supervisor. This observation is far more advantageous to organisations from a practical standpoint as
encouraging strong working relationships between their employees and promoting loyalty to the firm
can lead to positive outcomes in the field of innovation.
Poor organisational culture with a lack of emphasis on innovation may deter the process of idea
adoption. Research conducted by McDonald (2007) suggests that the mission of an organisation is
pivotal in focusing employees to work to develop and adopt new ideas which further the mission of
the organisation. He states that dedication towards a mission statement will create a more innovative
work culture where employees are more likely to be open to accepting failure of some of the
prototypes and work towards improving these models until they can be implemented across the firm.
It must be noted how this viewpoint appears to be a remedy for the rejection of ideas due to risk
aversion observed by Baer (2012). This theory provides a broader sense

  • 3. Sexually Transmitted Infections And Young Adults Sexually Transmitted Infections in young adults Justin Dwayne Wood Park University 12 April 23, 2015 Background Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in young adults have been a concern of mine since I was in high school. I grew up in California and it seemed that the spread of STIs was always talked about. I lived about one and a half hours from San Francisco and the transmission of HIV always seemed that it was a problem in that area. I grew up afraid that if I had sex I would contract a STI the first time I had sex. This was mostly due to concern the school made of STIs. During my high school years we had several classes on sex education. These classes seemed to put more effort on abstinence than anything else. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The U.S. has spent over one billion dollars on abstinence only programs that do not work, it is time that the U.S. governments starts investing in to a program that will work. I believe that the best way to help prevent the passing of STIs is through proper education. Our young adults deserve to know the proper way to protect themselves and the risk of having unprotected sex. Without proper education on prevention methods our STI rates will not drop. These education methods need to be delivered in way that is appropriate as well, they must be able to get the class involved on the topic and make sure that they understand it. I know that when I was in school anytime we had a sex education class it was delivered in a way where questions were not easily asked. It was more of a situation where you are told the information and do not need to worry about it afterwards which is completely wrong. The information that people learn on sex in schools will be with them for the rest of their life. It needs to be good information that will assist them in make appropriate decisions on sex. Most people will eventually have sexual intercourse at some point in their life that is why it is so important that the information they receive teaches them how to protect themselves against not only STIs but, unwanted sexual advances. There is also the family that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents universally to justify name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen wounds of words. These wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse and can be ensured, worsened, or inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are pushed on children from birth and throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all people must live by in their society. This string of abuse has left a countless number of victims in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse is regrettably a more common part of our society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work, Know About Abuse, as an, harmful, injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only limited to the physical signs, such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming bruises from the drop of a fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by hateful, derogatory, or misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they have managed to integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such forms. This affect of chronic name calling can be seen in Stacy A. Teicher s, Boys vs. Girls: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tim Elam Dinosaurs Tim Elam along with his partner, Travis Bibee, entertained us with a fascinating presentation on dinosaurs. It was quite amusing to watch him through it. The jokes were absolutely dad jokes which I believe keep you focused on the topic. They went over dinosaurs characteristics, aesthetically and anatomically and they also spoke about who created the names of the fossils and creatures. Tim Elam informed us about dinosaurs being similar worldwide, with evidence of fossils, because the land was one at that time. Through time and division of land they began to adapt and change slightly. They spoke about saurischian versus ornithischian. There are various different between these two orders but the most distinguishable ones are the hips. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the event it is, the contract cannot be bifurcated and must be considered as a whole, though ASC 815 40 15 2 discusses contracts that are indexed to and potentially settled in an entity s stock. Additionally, ASC 815 15 35 2 offers an alternative solution if the embedded derivative cannot be reliably measured or identified, and that is to assign a fair value to the entire contract, with gains and losses across reporting periods flowing through earnings. ASC 480 10 10 1 gives the objective of ASC 480 as the requirement to classify as a liability a freestanding financial instrument that embodies obligations for the issuer. It states in ASC 480 10 15 3 that freestanding financial instrument could include one with traits of equity and liability. It places a restriction on these instruments in ASC 480 10 15 5 by disallowing features embedded in a financial instrument that is not, in its entirety, a derivative, making the use of ASC 480 an all or nothing proposition since the guidance encompasses the financial instrument in its entirety (ASC 480 10 25 1). The contract between Hearts and Bionic contains obligations as defined by the ASC 480 that are conditional and/or unconditional, such as the contingent redemption right. • 7. St. Patrick Research Paper St. Patrick of Ireland is one of the world s most popular saints. He was born in Roman Britain and when he was fourteen or so, he was captured by Irish pirates during a raiding party and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. At the time, Ireland was a land of Druids and pagans but Patrick turned to God and wrote his memoir, The Confession. In The Confession, he wrote: The love of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was roused, so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same. I prayed in the woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain. Patrick s captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped ... After years of living in poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering he died March 17, 461. He died in Saul, where he had built the first Irish church. He is believed to be buried in Down Cathedral, Down Patrick. His grave was marked in 1990 with a granite stone. In His Footsteps: Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. So complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission, he feared nothing not even death. The Breastplate, Patrick s poem of faith and trust in God: Christ be within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ inquired, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Legend credits St. Patrick with teaching the Irish about the doctrine of the Holy Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a three leafed plant, using it to illustrate the Christian teaching of three persons in one God. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it may be older. The shamrock has since become a central symbol for St Patrick s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Considerations of Food Safety Food safety is one of the primary concerns in our industry, especially to those who process food in large amounts. Therefore, proper sanitation must be provided in order to destroy microorganisms that could possibly spoil and contaminate food products. Sanitizers are substances used to reduce and inhibit most microorganisms present in surfaces of equipment and utensils. They are usually in the form of liquid mixture applied directly on the surface of equipment or any material that may come in contact with the food (Parker, 2007). In 2007, Harrison and Davidson revealed that the most common sanitizers used in foods are hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics. However, in 2009, Schmidt discovered that use of these chemicals could cause corrosion, discoloration of products, and distortion of flavor and odor (see Appendix). Also, carelessly handling of these chemicals could also risk the personnel performing sanitation. Because of the hazardous effects of these chemicals (hypochlorites, chlorine, iodophores, quats and acid anionics) in food industry, there is a necessity to find alternative methods to further reduce microorganisms. At the same time, it should also have less effect to the quality of the food being tested. Bacteriocin, a substance produced by microorganisms, plays a defensive role in prohibiting invasion of strains or species. Thus, it could serve the purpose of a being a sanitizer since it has high anti microbial activity. This substance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Public And Private Sector Accounting Introduction The major debate in accounting is about the appropriateness of adopting the private sector accounting standards and practices to the public sector. Some researches support there is no distinction between the public and the private sector. For example, McGregor (1999) thought these two sectors are primarily similar in physical characteristics of assets. However, the against side believes that in some public activities, the application of accounting standards for public sector entities is inconsistent with the business sectors (Guthrie, 1998; Barton, 1999). This report concerns on evaluating three major issues between public and private sectors accounting: 1) a sector neutral approach chosen by accounting regulators; 2) the impact of applying a sector neutral approach to public sector accounting; 3) the adequate information generated by current approach meet the different information needs of users from public and private sectors. After the Introduction, I will analysis these three issues by providing critiques and literature reviews on different opinions in following section and give a conclusion. Literature review and Evaluation The public sector is one of the most important sectors of any countries. The public sector entities offer services, goods or programs to public for non profit purpose. However, the private sector is mainly composed by for profit entities. In this report, I will regard the public sector entities as government or government controlled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. How To Be Remembered Sir Isaac Newton When asked about how he would be remembered Sir Isaac Newton once said, I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, while the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me(bio.com) Today, one of the most highly regarded scientists is still Sir Isaac Newton. He should be remembered as the father of modern physics. Sir Isaac Newton was born on Jan 4, 1643 or according to December 25,1642 in Woolsthorpe, England. He never knew his father because he died before he was born and his mother remarried when he was three (bio.com). His mother moved in with his stepfather but she left him to be raised by his maternal grandmother Newton was educated at the King s School in Grantham which taught Latin and Greek but very little math. After the death of his stepfather, his mother wanted him to quit school to become a farmer. His mother was later convinced to allow him to re enroll at the school by the headmaster Henry Stokes (Wikipedia). After he was finished studying at the King s School in Grantham, his uncle convinced his mother to allow him to enroll at University of Cambridge Trinity College. • 11. Essay about Retrial Queues Systems Retrial Queues have been widely investigated in different frameworks by various researches. The pioneer work on retrial queues can be found in the work of Purohit et al(2005) and survey papers by Arteljo (2000) Choi et al. (1992) considered an M/M/1 retrial queueing system in which the retrial time has a general distribution and only the customer at the head of the queue is allowed to retry for service. There has been rapid growth in the literature on retrial queues since then. Armero et al. (1998) deals with the statistical analysis from bulk arrival queues. The focus of this investigation is on the usual measures of performance of the system in equilibrium. Rajagopalan et.al (2000) investigated stochastic modeling of a wide ... (2012, 2013) considered customers with impatience and their affect on queueing system. He considered reneged customers and how to retain them in the queueing system. The steady state solution is derived iteratively from the model. A.Aissani (1993) explained uses of retrial queues in stochastic modeling in computer and telecommunication amongst others. Dimitri Efrosinen (2006) constructed different ways necessary to investigates ways for optimal control. Gomez et al (1999) showed that the retrial queueing systems are widely used in teletraffic theory, computer and communication networks. He investigated analytical treatment of an M/G/1 retrial queues with general retrial times. • 12. Six Sigma Reflection The first guest speaker that spoke to our class was David Klug. He came to talk about Six Sigma and LEAN Integrations. He used to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska and this is where he first started to implement these programs. He no longer works there, but his presentation what over this company and how they adapted to the Six Sigma and LEAN programs. Right away he said something that caught my attention and that was that he emphasized that the culture of the business is the key in implementing these programs and without culture a company will not be successful. We found out throughout the presentation that that statement was very true. Six Sigma is a methodology that uses tools to improve an organization. The tools assist in identifying the customer requirements and conducting data analysis. Lean is a methodology that focuses on streamlining a process of eliminating waste. The tools help make the process visible which assists in identifying opportunities to optimize the process flow and reduce time. Of course the slide that had percentages on it caught my eye due to liking numbers and math so much. It was interesting for me to hear him talk about what would happen if 99.9% were acceptable. Some of the examples were like two unsafe plane landings per day at O Hare airport in Chicago and 500 incorrect surgical operations each week . These examples just show that companies are always having to know what they are doing and what needs to be improved to make sure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genetically Foods Should Be Approved For Human Consumption Genetically engineered foods are defined as foods that have had genes from other animals or plants (hereby referred to as foreign genes) added onto their genetic codes. The genetic engineering technique can be employed on animals, plants, or on such microorganisms as bacteria (NIH). The question of whether foods derived from such organisms should be approved for human consumption is what has raised widespread controversy among many circles. There are those who view GM foods as the ultimate solution to major challenges of the 21st century while others see them as a threat to human health and the environment. Notably, the global society is facing major challenges key among them being food insecurity and environmental issues such as global warming and climate change. Genetically engineered foods present a potential solution to these challenges. This paper will argue that with adequate research and regulation, genetically engineered foods should be approved owing to the benefits they present in terms of increased food production and quality, as well as eliminating the need to compromise the environment in the pursuit of more cultivation land and higher crop yield. In my view, we certainly need genetically engineered foods to fight food insecurity that characterizes the global society. A look at related statistics denotes a population that is facing serious food security challenges. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an estimated 795 million individuals ... Gentrification happens when rich people come to urban communities and change the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of a community. Countries are affected by this process and many of its civilians are left with nowhere to call their home. Communities where they once lived turn into places they ve never seen before. To be forced out of their own communities is only hurting the economic system of that city and/or country. The people that are being displaced are minorities and being forced out their community is killing their cultural. The residents will not be able to raise their children the same way they were brought up. For example, going outside and playing with the neighborhood children. The minorities that are getting kicked out will not able to stick together as a whole when moving to a different location. Each resident might move to different countries or cities as a final resort where prices of rent or mortgage will be lower. Some solutions that countries can use to limit or exterminate gentrification together would be; helping the poor residents through government assistances. Some residents do not have the proper income to continue living in the communities once the government or other companies step in and attempt to renovate the community. Another solution to this social problem would be if the government was more involved in helping the residents that are forced out to find better housing or something similar to their current ... Chapter 5 Modeling And Simulation Of The Supply Chain Complexity With Product And Demand Characterisation In the real world, supply chains are more complex, an information exchange difficult, since real demand and delivery times seldom are known. For a virtual system, the quality of the data and understanding its origin is significant to the validation process according to Law and Kelton. Modeling: In a first step the real system is analyzed and a model of it is specified. The level of abstraction depends on the goal of the simulation. The modeling can be done in a general programming language like UML, a Visio chart or in Mathematica. The resulting formal model is checked for its suitability against the real system. Implementation: After the system has been abstracter to a model, the model is implemented in a simulator. The simulator contains the physical model, which has to be verified against the formal model. The article emphasized the need for servants and slaves in order to make substantial growth however failed to mention where slavery derived from. A reference to Ancient Egypt could have easily been made and just like then it was used to build a foundation of civilization. Planters needed labor to be done and immigrants wanted a way out from British rule so they sold themselves either into slavery or as an indenture servant. As an indenture servant they were contracted anywhere from 3 to 7 years and freed. Slavery on the other hand continued and was instilled into the culture. Although the tragedy of an accident or horrifying event is sometimes unbearable for the patient and the patient s family, it may result in what some may call a new hope for those who are awaiting organ transplantation. Emergency department doctors and nurses play an integral part between life and death, between trying to save the patient and preserving the option of organ donation in the patient who cannot be saved.
