Jury Nullification
Ethnicity and the Courts

Jury Nullification is the process that allows members of the juror to acquit a defendant for crimes they
do not feel is grounds for punishment. Although, many jurors may not know this is an option to many
cases, it is still an option. If citizens use this option in many of the courtroom proceedings, there will
be fewer people who are serving time in prison. On the other hand, this does interfere with the
decision making process. This paper will explain whether ethnicity influences courtroom proceedings
and judicial practices. It will summarize the arguments for and against ethnicity based jury
nullification. Including contemporary examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would determine guilt or innocence based on the details. A person of the same racial profile may
be subject to feelings the feelings of sorry for the person based on their lifestyle or childhood issues
that they may feel has a bearing on their criminal behavior. Jury nullification is the process that allows
individuals to be acquitted based on evidence, guilt or innocence not for feelings, but if a crime exists
does it deserves punishment.
Include Contemporary Examples of ethnicity based jury nullification
According to The O.J. Simpson Trial: The Jury One example of ethnicity based jury nullification was
O.J. Simpson. This case was a very high profile case of racial disparity. Because of this it made the
prosecutor and the defense attorney very difficult to find suitable jurors to hear this case. O.J Simpson
was a black man accused of killing his wife who was white. Not only did it cause major issues about
racial disparities, but the chances of obtaining a conviction for which he was could prove impossible.

Type And Topology Of Lan
Type and topology of LAN
In the early beginnings of a Local Area Network consisted of mainframe computers and terminals.
Now networks consist of front ends which interface with the network, back ends take care of requests
by clients, clients are systems or applications that request services, Servers manage the network and its
resources, routers link the two or more networks together, and switches allow multiple computers on a
network interface to communicate. These are for small locations like an office building.
A Hybrid topology can incorporate multiple topologies to give it other routes to travel. They can use a
central hub or switch using the unshielded twisted pair Ethernet cables for the Star topology. They can
have a backbone network using the Fiber Distributed Data Interface or FDDI.
They can also use the Wireless topology using access points as part of the hybrid topology. This is a
great feature for both employees and customers. The range is up to 100 meters and is fast when
needing to access applications. It uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz band. It is also cheap and cost effective.
LAN cabling
The two types that can be use are the twisted pair and fiber optical cabling. There are two types of
twisted pair cables. They are shielded and unshielded Ethernet cables. They are copper wires being
twisted around to protect from emissions and noise. They are mainly used in an internal network or
office because it is cheaper and easier to install. They use an RJ45 connecter and

Maggie a Girl of the Streets
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, a novella written in 1893 by Stephen Crane, focuses on a poverty
stricken family living in the Bowery district of New York City. This novella is regarded as one of the
first works of naturalism in American literature and it helped shape the naturalistic principle that a
character is set into a world where there is no escape from one s biological heredity and the
circumstances that the characters find themselves in will dominate their behavior and deprive them of
individual responsibility. Throughout the story, the primary goal of the main characters is to escape the
lives they lead and to find more comfortable lives away from their current problems, which differs
from the romantic ideal that the main characters usually turn inwards to solve their problems. In the
opening stages of the novella, Maggie tries to escape her troubling life through her relationship with
Pete. As Maggie grows up, she becomes a beautiful girl who hates her life in Rum Alley. She sees Pete
as a savior who could lead her away from her poverty stricken life and bring her into the world of
leisure because he introduces her to popular music, dances, and dramas, all of which seem extravagant
to her. Maggie begins to note the well dressed women she meets. She [envies the women s] elegance
(11). Most of the melodramas that Maggie watches with Pete show the American dream of a person
going from rags to riches, which is a goal that she thinks Pete will help her in achieve.

Benefits Of The TTC In Toronto
TTC, standing for Toronto Transit Commission is a public transport agency which benefits and
transports 2.7 million people daily by using different vehicles and services in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada. Some citizens of Toronto argue how the TTC pollutes and makes the environment a horrid
and dreadful place, while it is actually the opposite because the TTC can help reduce the
environmental damage in the city, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and benefit Toronto to make it a
safer, significant, and a convenient city.
The TTC uses many vehicles to support it, such as buses, subways, streetcars, and paratransit services
to help people who need to go places in Toronto. Specifically, the TTC drives 2.7 million people daily.
Those people include adults, elderly, and children. The TTC has a blue seating called the Priority
Seating opposed to the ones who have disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The TTC is also
very helpful and useful to many other people especially for the ones who do not have any vehicles or
any type of transportation.
Unfortunately, the TTC is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without it, the TTC will be significantly dirtier, it will also emit more pollution followed by additional
greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere than there already is. To prevent such pollution people
should start by using the TTC because it will reduce the number of trips by car which equals less
greenhouse gas emissions. The atmospheric pollutants and gases caused by fuel being burnt are
formed into a gas like texture called smog. The Ontario Medical Association has calculated that 1 900
people die each year in the province because of the smog exposure. Therefore, the TTC is trying to
make Toronto a cleaner place by reducing and preventing the environmental damage in the city. By
using the TTC, it can also save 70 000 of fuel and remove tonnes of pollutants effectively from the
atmosphere every

Theme Of Escapism In The Boat
Wallpaper, and in Alistair MacLeod s The Boat Oftentimes, when burdening or stressful circumstances
begin to generate strain on an individual, they find themselves turning to literary art as a form of
mental relief. This deliverance applies, in particular, to the narrator in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The
Yellow Wallpaper, and the father in The Boat, by Alistair MacLeod. In both short stories, readers can
pinpoint several instances in which these specific characters seek solace through differing formats of
written language. The function of the father s books in The Boat, and the narrator s diary in The
Yellow Wallpaper, is to serve as an instrument of escapism, rebellion, and self expression, within the

contempt of reading and writing, both the father in The Boat, and the narrator in The Yellow

extreme limitations of their daily routine, both characters in MacLeod s and Gilman s short stories are
subject to their significantly overbearing and oppressive spouses. The domineering management of
their lives compels these characters to engage in either reading or writing, as an act of defiance
towards their authority wielding partners. This minor form of rebellion allows the characters to feel as
though they have at least some aspect of control over their lives. The father in MacLeod s story is
aware of his wife s aversion to and disapproval of reading; however, this antagonism does not deter
him from spending all his minimally free time devouring books in his room. The narrator notes that
his mother despised the room and all it stood for, yet his father remained inside it every night while
the goose necked lamp illuminated the pages in his hands, in an act of passive aggressive opposition

Ivan Shikhovich Pride
In the book, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, it is understandable
that the main character personal pride and dignity are essential to his survival in the harsh conditions
of the Gulag system. Shukhov displays this personal pride and dignity throughout the book and
continues to earn respect from his fellow inmates by working extra hard and earnings extra food and
favors because of that. Furthermore, it is remarkable how Shukhov continues to have hopes for a new
day, which is why he was able to survive the gulag system for ten years. Even after several years
living in the harsh conditions of the gulag system, Shukhov remains prideful and clever. For example,

It is obvious that he does not respect Fetyukov who is always trying to beg the prisoners for things or
tries to steal them. He looks down on Fetyukov like Tsezar and refuses to associate with him. For
example, because Tsezar respects Shukhov and gives him extra food, he ignores Fetyukov. In the text,
it states: It was because he didn t want to be interrupted while smoking and asked for a puff that he
had taken up a pipe , then Tzesar says to Shukhov, Take it, Ivan Denisovich (30). Tsezar looks up to
Shukhov and not Fetyukov because unlike Shukhov, Fetyukov begs for his resources instead of
working for it. Furthermore, Shukhov is recognized for his hard work ethic and respected unlike
Fetyukov is when Fetyukov walked through the barracks. He was sobbing... his mouth was smeared
with blood. So he d been beaten again over the bowls (150). A person like Fetyukov is a perfect
example of a prisoner who had lost their pride and dignity in the gulag unlike Shukhov, he keeps his
personal pride and dignity in tact which plays an important role in helping him survive the gulag

Just Justice For All Analysis
In the lecture With Justice for All? by Bryan Stevenson, he discusses his book Just Mercy as well as
allows the audience to question what mercy is in America. Stevenson began the lecture by discussing
how the audience has the capability to create more change, justice, and opportunity in America.
Stevenson spoke about the 5 things required in order to be able to make more change for the better.
The first thing that we must be able to do is that we have to be concerned about our identity. We can
call ourselves students and lawyers, however, it doesn t describe who we are. The adjectives used

In the recent election, one of the tactics that have been used is this idea of fear and the presidential
candidates have been using fear when discussing the policies and trying to convince the voters as to
why they should be voting for them. They use the idea of fear and how they, as presidents, will be able
to help solve the issues and fears in question. This idea of politics of fear (Salahuddin) also tied to the
lecture and how the legal system works. The system is run on the fear and racial prejudice that leads to
decisions being made that are unequal and unjust. One of the biggest issues that in order to look at
changes that need to be done and be able to make changes, we must not run on fear and anger. Another
topic discussed in both the lecture and the talk was the idea of racial prejudice. People of color and
African Americans are victims of many different hatred and prejudice and based on presumptions.
(Salahuddin) Black and browns, in America, are presumed dangerous leading to them being burdened

The Early Years Learning Framework For Australia
The Early Years Learning framework for Australia Document is important to have in our Schools; as it
talks about how Children are confident and involved learners, we need our student s to be confident

learners so they do not need as much explicit instructions, or help as they have developed enough to
do this on their own. Students will change the way they Show what they know with more extended

Pro Gun Control Debate
As we engulf ourselves in politics for the election year, there has been frequent source of debate
between the candidates; gun control. In the words of Patrick J. Charles of Britannica, gun control is
...politics, legislation, and enforcement of measures intended to restrict access to, the possession of, or
the use of arms, specifically firearms. Even taking away the political importance, gun control is a hot
topic that is in every Americans mind as fear for personal safety is on the rise. This has been created
by increased media attention and coverage of mass shootings, which seem to occur more frequently as
time goes on. This has lead to the question: can we use laws and enforcement to reduce the violence?
It shows creating laws to control or ban the purchasing and use of firearms is the most probable to be
the solution to reducing gun violence while coinciding with proper firearm education. The event that
sparked the modern debate of gun control occurred on July 20, 2012 when James Holmes used
weapons with high capacity magazines to open fire on a sold out movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado,
and accumulated 74 casualties, including 12 deaths. Colorado unfortunately is no stranger ... Show

SeaWorld is an aquarium theme park that has locations in San Diego, Florida, Texas and Virginia. The
park has orca shows where the whales perform on a regular basis and receive much controversy. It is
revolting that people still find enjoyment in watching these sophisticated mammals do tricks in a

The controversy of SeaWorld s whale captivity is not only a threat to the animals themselves, but to
the trainers and other whales in confinement as well. Three whales at the theme park had either

The Accessibility Of The Environment
what are barriers?
Beyond the design of the environment, the accessibility will be related to the behaviors of its users and
owners. According to guidelines, it is only persons with disabilities for whom barriers becomes major
obstacle but it is necessary to realize that every person, at some stage of life face barriers like an
elderly person, a pregnant lady, the temporary disabled, all are vulnerable to barriers. Barriers not only
make environment unsafe cause difficulty to users but also causes space out of reach, denying people
the opportunity of participation. The important concept for accessibility of environment is that of trip
chain . A typical trip consists of many links for e.g. to go to workplace from home, a person has : to go
from home to sidewalk, enter a vehicle, go out of vehicle to sidewalk, reach the entrance of building,
enter the building, move around in building and enter workstation. And each link can be further
divided in more detail, so if only one link is not accessible, then the journey becomes difficult.
(Ferneeuw, 2005)
Different type of barriers
According to Smith(1987), barriers faced by people with disabilities undertaking leisure related travel
are identified as: 1)intrinsic barriers, 2) environmental barriers, and 3) interactive barrier. Intrinsic
barriers are those resulting from an individual s own level of physical, cognitive or psychological
functioning. Environmental barriers are external to individual like attitudinal barriers,

Under Armour Is The Third Biggest Sportswear Brand Of The...
Problem Identification: Under Armour is the second biggest sportswear brand in the US losing the first
place to Nike. It is a great accomplishment for Under Armour considering the fact that the company
was established in 1996. Nevertheless, Under Armour does not have a well known name so that
people will actually consider it to have a real possibility to create a threat to Nike and surpass them at
some point. Under Armour faces many competitors besides Nike, like Adidas, Reebok, and Puma.
While Under Armour makes exceptional products that are of similar quality, what makes Nike so
much stronger of a company? A main problem identified was that Under Armour does not have much
international revenue compared to its counterpart Nike, and Under Armour does not try to send a
message with their clothes. They just want to sell them. In fact, according to 247wallst.com, Nike had

Theme Of Poverty In The Kite Runner
Illiteracy and poverty are highly connected. This is well known. A child who grows up impoverished
in a developing country is likely to be illiterate. An illiterate and impoverished child has an incredibly
low chance of succeeding as a person. If those chances weren t low enough, imagine that child is
growing up being discriminated against because of his or her religious affiliation and cultural
background. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the character Hassan exemplifies the poverty
stricken illiterate child. He has grown up as a servant and never acquires a useable skill and never
makes a live able wage. Conversely, the character Amir has had access to school, is a member of the
dominant religion of Afghanistan, and is supported by a wealthy father. Because he was born into a
family with money and privilege, he is likely to be a competitive member of the economy and will
follow in his father s footsteps in that way. The future of each of these characters can reliably be traced
back to one thing: their ethnic backgrounds. Amir is a young Afghani boy that possesses few
differences from any other boys his age. He looks like, acts like, and lives like a young boy, but he has
the advantage of living with a wealthy father. Jealousy is a flaw of his, and is one of the reasons he
wallows in his own self pity for the majority of the novel. Hosseini does a remarkable job of making
this character real and understandable. Amir is not a hero in any factor, but he does find a

The inability of Ivoirian firms to obtain suitable industrial land has become a binding constraint on the
country s economic growth and a primary impediment to the Government of Cote d Ivoire s (GOCI)
effort to increase industrial GDP to well above its current 22%. In the second quarter of 2013, the
utilization rate of industrial capacity stood at 67.9% for Cote d Ivoire . This will in turn increase the
competitiveness of its economy. The GOCI now recognizes the tremendous economic costs of poor
industrial land governance and inefficient industrial land markets and, consequently, has proposed
concrete activities to address this constraint under Cote d Ivoire s first MCC Compact. Selection of

Cosi by Louis Nowra
How does Nowra use the opera Cosi fan Tutte to explore the play s main ideas?
Set in a typical mental asylum in the 1970 s during the anti Vietnam War protests and the feminist
movement for women s equal rights, the play Cosi by Louis Nowra deeply explores the themes of love
and fidelity, in a society predominantly concerned with war and politics. Throughout the play, Nowra
uses the play within a play, Cosi Fan Tutte , to convey his key values regarding the importance of love
and fidelity in today s world, while questioning the necessity of war and condemning society s
perceptions of madness itself. The playwright delivers these messages through a number of subtle
implications and symbolic features which are evident in the story, ... Show more content on

This very much represents the physical crossing from the normal world into a world which is not seen
from the outside, and pushed to the edge of society, and further resembles a glimpse of hope for the
patients recovery. In the later scenes of the play, during the performance of Mozart s opera, the entire
theatre has been transformed into something completely different, with its white walls, the bright,
colourful costumes, and Mozart s music of the spheres echoing within the once dark and dismal place.
The new theatre in all its splendour metaphorically resembles the transformations of the characters
themselves, and from this, the audience is encouraged to realise the significance and therapeutic
nature of art, in this case theatre and music: the music of this opera will keep the world in harmony ,
especially in contrast to hopeless treatments such as shock therapy. Through his play, Nowra also
encourages the audience to agree with his personal view that war is unnecessary, and in a way is a
kind of madness itself, due to its chaotic and uncontrollable nature.
Through Cosi Fan Tutte , Nowra also focuses on highlighting the inconsistencies and injustices within
the mental health system, through the use of dark humour and cynical depictions of mental asylums
and their preferred methods

Higher Education Marketing Mix
CHAPTER 3
MARKETING S ROLE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
3.1
INTRODUCTION
Chapter 2 introduced some of the major changes and trends that have taken place in the higher
education environment both internationally and locally. Although higher education institutions can be
classified as non profit organisations, the challenges discussed in Chapter 2 necessitate higher
education institutions to take on the organisation like behaviour of profit organisations and to become
more marketingoriented. An understanding of the environment in which higher education institutions
operate, provides an essential background against which to understand and assess the benefits of
focusing on students as customers. If higher education institutions understand the ... Show more

markets by using the tools of marketing: service product, place, price, promotion, process, people
and physical evidence.
Marketing s greater contribution lies in its ability to facilitate the exchange process that takes place
between the non profit organisation such as the higher education institution, and each of the customer
groups it addresses (Sargeant, 2005:295).
Marketing can provide a detailed understanding of the needs of such customers and ensure that the
institution addresses these needs in as efficient and comprehensive manner as possible. This
understanding of customers needs can aid organisations in creating and sustaining a competitive
advantage. Lynch and Baines (2004:171) found that higher education institutions sustainable
competitive advantages are usually based on superior knowledge, reputation, innovation or
architectural related advantages. However, marketing is not stagnant and over the years the marketing
activities of organisations have changed. Kolter (2003) and Strydom, Jooste and Cant (2000:10)
identify four stages that strongly influence the evolution of organisations marketing activities. These
stages are referred to as production, sales, marketing and societal marketing. The production

Hamilton Vs Jefferson
Hamilton envisaged America as an industrialized powerhouse, while Jefferson imagined a pastoral
setting for America s future. These dissimilar economic orders came to characterize the North and the
South. However, the Northern and Southern economies, existed largely independent of one another
despite their superficial connection under the Union flag. The South made its profits from exports
while the North relied on manufacturing to prosper. As a result, both regions developed individualized
pecuniary interests that demanded the aid of the government to facilitate growth. Inevitably, Northern
desires for protective tariffs, export taxes and internal improvements drove the South away because
these policies benefited factory owners and hurt plantation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, both the North and the South needed labour; the North used poor white immigrants to
fill factories while the South relied on slaves to farm cotton. Inevitably, these systems clashed as the
Northern Republicans sought to limit the growth of Slavery to protect the jobs of their unskilled white
constituents. In terms of microeconomics, Plantation owners would not benefit from having to pay
waged laborers because the South required abundant and cheap slave labour to produce cotton in
profitable amounts. Additionally, the cumulative value of slaves was too bloated to yield without a
catastrophic loss of investments. Finally, the macroeconomic goals of the South included the
expansion of slavery to the west, while the North was adamant about containing the already shrinking
south to within its borders, forcing Slavery to extinguish as soil degraded and demand for farm labour
fell. By controlling the West through free labour and the Homestead act, the North could deprive the
South of critical plantations out

Ancient Year Vs Day Rule Essay
The Ancient Year and A Day Rule
The year and a day rule is a common law rule. In a time when medical miracles and forensics were
either extremely slow or unheard of, time was a more dictating factor in the enforcement of laws and
crimes committed.According to Sir William Blackstone, an English jurist, judge, and politician of the
18th century, a death upgrade to murder requires that the death occur within one year and a day of the
initial injury. When figuring the qualifications tallying begans on the day of infliction.. The belief that
this common law has been laid to rest and unused is incorrect. The idea that based on modern science
and the ability to easier prove cause of death and then build the appropriate case has led to the
widespread dismissal of the year and a day rule. Referring to sections 9 and 10 of Article I, many
appeals based on this rule have been denied because according to the Article, the U.S Constitution
forbids Congress and all states from enacting ex post facto laws defined as Done or made after the
fact; having retroactive force or effect , (Blacks Law pg. 518). The following two cases challenge
retroactive application in a more current perspective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sometimes successful in avoiding prosecution and sometimes not, and so on. The presence of mens rea

Time Management In High School
Time Management
What would make a student fail a class? There are many reason why someone could fail.
Students from every college across the nation struggle with financial problems, transportation, picking
the wrong major, etc. A major problem with many students, including myself, is poor time
management. Not the most well known reason to fail a class and is mostly thought of to be a small
problem, but it causes smart people to slip up in college a lot. Either it be having a full plate of
responsibilities and not having enough time for school or just pure procrastination, it can very easily
lead someone to flunk a college course.
With most students it s that they don t make good study habits in high school and it carries into
college. Students don t bother with planning out their time and wait till the last minute to study for an
exam or to finish an essay. This may have worked sometimes in high school, but in college it is
impossible to be successful with horrible habits with the workload students receive in college
compared to high school. In The Student Fear Factor Melanie says
I never realized how fast college would be, comparing one year of high school with one semester of
college. It s really fast pace. (Cox 24). With way more information to learn and exams to take
compared to high school, there is so time for slouching around. It takes effort and motivation to put in
more time for school and realize that college is way more important than what their friend just

How The Behaviours And Body Languages Of Males And Females...
On November 13, I decided to analyze how the behaviours and body languages of males and females
during a bus ride by using participant observation as my method of collecting data (also commonly
known as ethnographic field notes). I did this experiment by taking the Translink #49 bus from the
University of British Columbia bus loop at 1 PM in the afternoon to the final stop, Metrotown Station
and rode the same bus back to campus at 6 PM in the evening. I believe the data I have gathered from
this observation is very interesting because in Canada, there is an emphasis on closing the sex gap
between males and females by showing that there are little or no differences (excluding the physical
sense) between the two. Therefore, I was curious if there were behavioural and social variations
between the two sexes in an open space, and I thought that observing other people s actions and body
languages on a public transportation like the bus would be able to answer my questions if there were
differences . I would argue that we can learn a lot from the way we act through the patterns I have
seen and use that to be more conscious about our actions when we hop on a bus ride. Originally, I
expected to find little difference between the two sexes, because I did not anticipate that humans
would act differently due to their sex in a closed space that they had to stay in for a temporary amount
of time. However, my findings have shown that there are varying patterns of behaviour between males

San Diego Drought
How does the California drought affect local ecotourism in San Diego? Water has been around for
almost as long the Earth has been around, approximately 4.6 billion years ago. In some shape or form,
water has continued to be an important resource since the formation of Earth and continues to be today
as well. Water being a finite abundant substance, it covers up approximately 70 percent of the Earth s
surface. It is without a doubt an essential resource needed to sustain life on Earth. Nonetheless, not
only is water an important resource for all living organisms for subsistence, but it also serves other
purposes: agriculture purposes, medical and health purposes, tourism and much more. However, with
the recent emergence of the issue surrounding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
California is a geographically dry area and water shortage has been a serious issue affecting the state
since 2012. California has the highest water consumption compared to all the other states and this
partly due to the reason that roughly eighty percent of the state s water is used towards agriculture;
California being the largest agricultural export distributor in the country (Green). Since of 2012,
California has been on a severe four year drought and has had immediate plans and regulations in
order to reduce the impact it has. According to California Water Science Center, 2014 was the third
driest year on record and following that, 2015 [was] the warmest year on record. The recent record
breaking climate has contributed to the drought of California and as a result has had detrimental
impacts to the environment. Severe climate during a shortage of water can lead to drastic problems
because it can lead to an increase of evapotranspiration and increase of precipitation falling as rain
rather than snow. Having precipitation falling more often as rain rather than snow during warm
weather can lead to early snowmelt which can unbalance the water supply demands (Causes of
Drought). During a drought, occasionally humans are impacted, but more importantly the environment
experiences the impacts harshly. Wildlife habitat lost, inadequate food and water

Views of Karl Marx and John Stuart Mill Essay examples
None of the supposed rights of man go beyond the egoistic man, man as he is a member of civil
society; that is, an individual separated from the community, withdrawn into himself, wholly
preoccupied with his private interests and acting in accordance with his private caprice.
Karl Marx, On the Jewish Question
The only freedom which deserves the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long
as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it.
John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
While, after reading the above two quotations, it may appear that Karl Marx and John Stuart Mill take
seemingly opposing views on the proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real truth, however, falls somewhere between these two poles.
Mill on the Individual
Mill wastes no time in articulating the central thesis of On Liberty; he states, Over himself, over his
own body and mind, the individual is sovereign (69). Mill, then, does not make the individual more
important than society, but he separates the individual from society and articulates a realm of
existence in which society, or the community, should have no power over the individual. Mill states,
The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the
liberty of action of any of their number is self protection His own good, either physical or moral, is
not a sufficient warrant (68). Society, therefore, has no right to intervene in the private life of any
person, unless they act in such a way that prevents others from enjoying their own rights.
Mill is extremely clear as to why the individual should be sovereign over his or her body and mind—to
counter the effects of a possible tyranny of the majority. Mill states, It (the majority) practices a social
tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, since, though not usually upheld by
such extreme penalties, it leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details
of life, and enslaving the soul itself (63).

The actual way in which Mr Spurlock conducts these interviews is humourous, entertaining and just
genius. A good example is when Spurlock interviews a group of pre schoolers after he comes up with
the theory that perhaps it Is not the general public s fault that they consume such a ridiculous amount
of McDonald s, suggesting that such stupidity is the result of it being all people knew since they were
kids. In the interview, Spurlock shows the group of pre schoolers a number of photos of famous
people and asks each individual to name them. He finds that while half of them can hardly speak
properly, when shown a picture of McDonald s fries and Ronald McDonald, not one of them fails to
say McDonald s and that they all know who Ronald McDonald is, thus proving his theory. In my
opinion, however, the biggest contributing factor to the success of Supersize Me is simply the director
s magnetic personality and keen sense of humour. Little things Spurlock says or does like My

expanding to other activities may be tough at first, but through customer feedback and demand the
company would be able to innovate and provide satisfaction. To attract our target audience, Artistry

There are various reasons given as to why the Liberals succeeded in winning the 1906 elections,

The Conservative Party like the Liberal Party split over the issue of Free Trade and failed to reunite,

Although, many jurors may not know this is an option to many cases, it is still an option. If citizens use this option in many of the courtroom proceedings, there will be fewer people who are serving time in prison. On the other hand, this does interfere with the decision making process. • 4. Maggie a Girl of the Streets Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, a novella written in 1893 by Stephen Crane, focuses on a poverty stricken family living in the Bowery district of New York City. This novella is regarded as one of the first works of naturalism in American literature and it helped shape the naturalistic principle that a character is set into a world where there is no escape from one s biological heredity and the circumstances that the characters find themselves in will dominate their behavior and deprive them of individual responsibility. Throughout the story, the primary goal of the main characters is to escape the lives they lead and to find more comfortable lives away from their current problems, which differs from the romantic ideal that the main characters usually turn inwards to solve their problems. In the opening stages of the novella, Maggie tries to escape her troubling life through her relationship with Pete. As Maggie grows up, she becomes a beautiful girl who hates her life in Rum Alley. She sees Pete as a savior who could lead her away from her poverty stricken life and bring her into the world of leisure because he introduces her to popular music, dances, and dramas, all of which seem extravagant to her. Maggie begins to note the well dressed women she meets. She [envies the women s] elegance (11). Most of the melodramas that Maggie watches with Pete show the American dream of a person going from rags to riches, which is a goal that she thinks Pete will help her in achieve. ... This deliverance applies, in particular, to the narrator in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, and the father in The Boat, by Alistair MacLeod. In both short stories, readers can pinpoint several instances in which these specific characters seek solace through differing formats of written language. In addition to the extreme limitations of their daily routine, both characters in MacLeod s and Gilman s short stories are subject to their significantly overbearing and oppressive spouses. The domineering management of their lives compels these characters to engage in either reading or writing, as an act of defiance towards their authority wielding partners. This minor form of rebellion allows the characters to feel as though they have at least some aspect of control over their lives. The father in MacLeod s story is aware of his wife s aversion to and disapproval of reading; however, this antagonism does not deter him from spending all his minimally free time devouring books in his room. • 20. Under Armour Is The Third Biggest Sportswear Brand Of The... Problem Identification: Under Armour is the second biggest sportswear brand in the US losing the first place to Nike. It is a great accomplishment for Under Armour considering the fact that the company was established in 1996. Nevertheless, Under Armour does not have a well known name so that people will actually consider it to have a real possibility to create a threat to Nike and surpass them at some point. Under Armour faces many competitors besides Nike, like Adidas, Reebok, and Puma. While Under Armour makes exceptional products that are of similar quality, what makes Nike so much stronger of a company? A main problem identified was that Under Armour does not have much international revenue compared to its counterpart Nike, and Under Armour does not try to send a message with their clothes. They just want to sell them. In fact, according to 247wallst.com, Nike had an international revenue quarter of about $7 billion while Under Armour saw a quarterly revenue of $610 million. External Environment: One of the strongest sides of Under Armour is its outstanding technological development. Under Armour has made many strides in technology of their products. For example, Under Armour has begun using a waterproof and water resistant material. One of the most notable major changes in technology Under Armour is working on is the use of a touch screen in the arm of a sleeve for instant access to information, whether it is heart rate monitor or simply social media and music. • 21. Theme Of Poverty In The Kite Runner Illiteracy and poverty are highly connected. This is well known. A child who grows up impoverished in a developing country is likely to be illiterate. An illiterate and impoverished child has an incredibly low chance of succeeding as a person. If those chances weren t low enough, imagine that child is growing up being discriminated against because of his or her religious affiliation and cultural background. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the character Hassan exemplifies the poverty stricken illiterate child. He has grown up as a servant and never acquires a useable skill and never makes a live able wage. Conversely, the character Amir has had access to school, is a member of the dominant religion of Afghanistan, and is supported by a wealthy father. Because he was born into a family with money and privilege, he is likely to be a competitive member of the economy and will follow in his father s footsteps in that way. The future of each of these characters can reliably be traced back to one thing: their ethnic backgrounds. Amir is a young Afghani boy that possesses few differences from any other boys his age. He looks like, acts like, and lives like a young boy, but he has the advantage of living with a wealthy father. Jealousy is a flaw of his, and is one of the reasons he wallows in his own self pity for the majority of the novel. Hosseini does a remarkable job of making this character real and understandable. Amir is not a hero in any factor, but he does find a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The inability of Ivoirian firms to obtain suitable industrial land has become a binding constraint on the country s economic growth and a primary impediment to the Government of Cote d Ivoire s (GOCI) effort to increase industrial GDP to well above its current 22%. In the second quarter of 2013, the utilization rate of industrial capacity stood at 67.9% for Cote d Ivoire . This will in turn increase the competitiveness of its economy. Set in a typical mental asylum in the 1970 s during the anti Vietnam War protests and the feminist movement for women s equal rights, the play Cosi by Louis Nowra deeply explores the themes of love and fidelity, in a society predominantly concerned with war and politics. Throughout the play, Nowra uses the play within a play, Cosi Fan Tutte , to convey his key values regarding the importance of love and fidelity in today s world, while questioning the necessity of war and condemning society s perceptions of madness itself. The playwright delivers these messages through a number of subtle implications and symbolic features which are evident in the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new theatre in all its splendour metaphorically resembles the transformations of the characters themselves, and from this, the audience is encouraged to realise the significance and therapeutic nature of art, in this case theatre and music: the music of this opera will keep the world in harmony , especially in contrast to hopeless treatments such as shock therapy. Through his play, Nowra also encourages the audience to agree with his personal view that war is unnecessary, and in a way is a kind of madness itself, due to its chaotic and uncontrollable nature. Higher Education Marketing Mix CHAPTER 3 MARKETING S ROLE IN HIGHER EDUCATION 3.1 INTRODUCTION Chapter 2 introduced some of the major changes and trends that have taken place in the higher education environment both internationally and locally. Although higher education institutions can be classified as non profit organisations, the challenges discussed in Chapter 2 necessitate higher education institutions to take on the organisation like behaviour of profit organisations and to become more marketingoriented. An understanding of the environment in which higher education institutions operate, provides an essential background against which to understand and assess the benefits of focusing on students as customers. According to Shoemaker (1999), marketing is the proactive management of the relationship between a higher education institution and its various 74 markets by using the tools of marketing: service product, place, price, promotion, process, people and physical evidence. Marketing s greater contribution lies in its ability to facilitate the exchange process that takes place between the non profit organisation such as the higher education institution, and each of the customer groups it addresses (Sargeant, 2005:295). Marketing can provide a detailed understanding of the needs of such customers and ensure that the institution addresses these needs in as efficient and comprehensive manner as possible. This understanding of customers needs can aid organisations in creating and sustaining a competitive advantage. Lynch and Baines (2004:171) found that higher education institutions sustainable competitive advantages are usually based on superior knowledge, reputation, innovation or architectural related advantages. However, marketing is not stagnant and over the years the marketing activities of organisations have changed. Kolter (2003) and Strydom, Jooste and Cant (2000:10) identify four stages that strongly influence the evolution of organisations marketing activities. These stages are referred to as production, sales, marketing and societal marketing. The production ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These dissimilar economic orders came to characterize the North and the South. The South made its profits from exports while the North relied on manufacturing to prosper. In terms of microeconomics, Plantation owners would not benefit from having to pay waged laborers because the South required abundant and cheap slave labour to produce cotton in profitable amounts. Additionally, the cumulative value of slaves was too bloated to yield without a catastrophic loss of investments. Finally, the macroeconomic goals of the South included the expansion of slavery to the west, while the North was adamant about containing the already shrinking south to within its borders, forcing Slavery to extinguish as soil degraded and demand for farm labour fell. In a time when medical miracles and forensics were either extremely slow or unheard of, time was a more dictating factor in the enforcement of laws and crimes committed.According to Sir William Blackstone, an English jurist, judge, and politician of the 18th century, a death upgrade to murder requires that the death occur within one year and a day of the initial injury. When figuring the qualifications tallying begans on the day of infliction.. The belief that this common law has been laid to rest and unused is incorrect. The idea that based on modern science and the ability to easier prove cause of death and then build the appropriate case has led to the widespread dismissal of the year and a day rule. Referring to sections 9 and 10 of Article I, many appeals based on this rule have been denied because according to the Article, the U.S Constitution forbids Congress and all states from enacting ex post facto laws defined as Done or made after the fact; having retroactive force or effect , (Blacks Law pg. 518). Students from every college across the nation struggle with financial problems, transportation, picking the wrong major, etc. A major problem with many students, including myself, is poor time management. Not the most well known reason to fail a class and is mostly thought of to be a small problem, but it causes smart people to slip up in college a lot. Either it be having a full plate of responsibilities and not having enough time for school or just pure procrastination, it can very easily lead someone to flunk a college course. With most students it s that they don t make good study habits in high school and it carries into college. Students don t bother with planning out their time and wait till the last minute to study for an exam or to finish an essay. This may have worked sometimes in high school, but in college it is impossible to be successful with horrible habits with the workload students receive in college compared to high school. • 28. How The Behaviours And Body Languages Of Males And Females... On November 13, I decided to analyze how the behaviours and body languages of males and females during a bus ride by using participant observation as my method of collecting data (also commonly known as ethnographic field notes). I did this experiment by taking the Translink #49 bus from the University of British Columbia bus loop at 1 PM in the afternoon to the final stop, Metrotown Station and rode the same bus back to campus at 6 PM in the evening. I believe the data I have gathered from this observation is very interesting because in Canada, there is an emphasis on closing the sex gap between males and females by showing that there are little or no differences (excluding the physical sense) between the two. Therefore, I was curious if there were behavioural and social variations between the two sexes in an open space, and I thought that observing other people s actions and body languages on a public transportation like the bus would be able to answer my questions if there were differences . I would argue that we can learn a lot from the way we act through the patterns I have seen and use that to be more conscious about our actions when we hop on a bus ride. Originally, I expected to find little difference between the two sexes, because I did not anticipate that humans would act differently due to their sex in a closed space that they had to stay in for a temporary amount of time. However, my findings have shown that there are varying patterns of behaviour between males ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

California is a geographically dry area and water shortage has been a serious issue affecting the state since 2012. California has the highest water consumption compared to all the other states and this partly due to the reason that roughly eighty percent of the state s water is used towards agriculture; California being the largest agricultural export distributor in the country (Green). Since of 2012, California has been on a severe four year drought and has had immediate plans and regulations in order to reduce the impact it has. According to California Water Science Center, 2014 was the third driest year on record and following that, 2015 [was] the warmest year on record. The recent record breaking climate has contributed to the drought of California and as a result has had detrimental impacts to the environment. Severe climate during a shortage of water can lead to drastic problems because it can lead to an increase of evapotranspiration and increase of precipitation falling as rain rather than snow. Having precipitation falling more often as rain rather than snow during warm weather can lead to early snowmelt which can unbalance the water supply demands (Causes of Drought). During a drought, occasionally humans are impacted, but more importantly the environment experiences the impacts harshly. Wildlife habitat lost, inadequate food and water ... Views of Karl Marx and John Stuart Mill Essay examples None of the supposed rights of man go beyond the egoistic man, man as he is a member of civil society; that is, an individual separated from the community, withdrawn into himself, wholly preoccupied with his private interests and acting in accordance with his private caprice. Karl Marx, On the Jewish Question The only freedom which deserves the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real truth, however, falls somewhere between these two poles. Mill on the Individual Mill wastes no time in articulating the central thesis of On Liberty; he states, Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign (69). Mill, then, does not make the individual more important than society, but he separates the individual from society and articulates a realm of existence in which society, or the community, should have no power over the individual. Mill states, The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number is self protection His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant (68). Society, therefore, has no right to intervene in the private life of any person, unless they act in such a way that prevents others from enjoying their own rights. Mill is extremely clear as to why the individual should be sovereign over his or her body and mind—to counter the effects of a possible tyranny of the majority. Mill states, It (the majority) practices a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, since, though not usually upheld by such extreme penalties, it leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life, and enslaving the soul itself (63). ...
