Chimpanzee Essay
Samantha Walls
Anthropology 101 Growth and Development of Chimpanzees Chimpanzees are great apes that are the
closest living relatives to humans (Larsen, 2014). These primates have been studied and observed
intently for decades, and there are many theories that explain why they are the way they are.
Chimpanzees learn the necessary skills of survival through social and cultural contexts and pass these
traits along to their offspring. In researching these smart and interesting primates I have understood
the social and cultural roles chimpanzees have that are necessary for survival. The mother infant bond
is crucial to the development of young chimpanzees and these females are known for teaching their
young social roles and behavior, communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether in the wild or in captivity, chimpanzees will benefit from the behaviors of other chimpanzees
in a social learning environment (Hirata, 2009). Chimpanzees in the wild are known for behaviors
involving tool use such as nut cracking, ant dipping, termite fishing, pestle pounding and many other
techniques (Tonooka, Tomonaga Matsuzawa, 1997). The skills are seen to be transferred culturally
between communities and across many generations. An example of tool use behavior was studied in
West Africa, where chimpanzees are known to crack nuts using stone or wooden tools. In Bossou,
chimpanzees crack the nut Elaeis Guineensis which is an oil palm nut, whereas in the Nimba
mountains 10 km away from Bossou, chimpanzees would crack a doula nut called Coula edulis.
Matsuzawa and others experimented by giving the doula nut to the Bossou chimpanzees, who had
never seen or eaten this type of nut before. Besides one adult female, most of the chimpanzees sniffed
the nut, picked it up but did not eat it or try and crack the shell. Through observational learning of the
adult female that cracked the nut right away, two chimpanzees learned to crack the new nut that was
put in their environment. This proved the first evidence of cultural transmission between communities
and generations, where the adult chimpanzee grew up in a community nearby that had the same
tradition of doula

Stock Market Crash Of 1929 Essay
In 1929 America experienced one of the worst and the first crash of the stock market. This also lead to
what we call the great depression, a time of no economic growth, and to make matters worse we also
began to go through the dust bowl times. At that time the market had little to no implemented
regulations. President Herbert Hoover at the time blamed the stock market crash on the lack of
regulation. Today, the market has many more regulations than there were back then. Some people and
presidents want less or more regulation on the market. So which is better? Regulation all the way!
Regulation gives increased security, restored trust, political capital, and path dependency. Well how
did the Housing crisis happen in the first place? Well what banks were doing was looking for fast short
term profits. To get these profits banks had to give out sub prime mortgages . Sub prime mortgages are
basically loans given to people who would have a rather hard time paying back the cash. Because of
this banks were able to increase interest rates. When the banks raised the interest rates what they did
was create a hypothetical bubble that was bound to burst. When this happened banks began to fail. ...

financial institutions are regulated. Paccagnella states A common element to several alternative

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama
Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama The economy of the 1930s was a devastating financial
situation that the American public will never forget. However, this doesn t mean that history will cease
to repeat itself. The political policies of Franklin Delano Roosevelt are often acknowledged for the
relief of our country s depression and some of which are still in effect today. To avoid our current
recession, will Barack Obama choose to base his policies off of FDR s in hopes that the same plan will
work twice? There are some similarities and differences between the political action today and the
action during the Great Depression. Within just the first 99 days of his election as President, Roosevelt

The best solution would to be to save our money and work hard at what we do. Though it may seem
that there are no jobs available to us at the moment, we do have to trust that the companies around us

agree with how Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to solve the Great Depression, I have to admit that what he
did he thought he was doing for the best. Great presidents like Obama, Roosevelt, and even Hoover

The Human Dimension Of The Army
The Human Dimension is a concept that the Army has been looking into over the past years as the
dynamics have changed. Soldiers and DOD Civilians make up today s fighting force. As such, it is
important to look at the whole person. The purpose of the whole person concept is to notice how our
cognitive, physical, social and spiritual attributes not only effect the Army, but how it will shape the
future of our fighting forces.
Cognitive
The way each individual learns is imperative to understand as not everyone learns using the same
methods or at the same rate as their counterpart. It is readily believed that the most common way of
retaining information is by repetition. However, just as there are different ways to approach basic
math, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a belief in the intangible or unexplainable. In a study students who had strong religious correlations
also had higher positive feelings, lower levels of depression, and were better equipped at handling
stress (Borchard, n.d.). Knowing how spirituality effects Soldiers and DOD Civilians will be
important to the Army as they progress into the future; for it too is an ever changing solution to

Teaching, Learning, And Student Centered Approaches Essay
Introduction
Throughout this semester, I spent approximately 20 hours aiding teachers as well as learning the
importance of planning. Although teaching is the foundation that we see for the students, it is
important to understand that all of the teaching that occurs can not be done without the planning. This
essay will be informative of the planning, techniques, and models 1st grade English teachers at the
World Language Academy use to be most effective on the students they are teaching, as well as also
explaining the diversity among the students and teachers and how that affects both learning and
teaching. What is so significant about this, in my opinion, is that the classroom I was in uses a mixture
of direct instruction, cooperative learning, and student centered approaches. All of these methods in
one classroom make for a very successful teacher.
World Language Academy
The World Language Academy is an early education (grades K 5) school. The World Language
Academy, or WLA, is an academy that teaches all classes in both English and Spanish. Though not all
teachers can speak both languages, the students are taught both ways in order to excel in the real world
as they become older. As you walk into this building, the receptionist, casually dressed, giving you a
warm homey feel, welcomes you. As you walk down the halls, all covered with drawings, projects,
and poems, you can sense the determination of children and adults without even walking into a

Galileo Galilei Accomplishments
That moment when the Church excommunicates you for being right. In 1564 on February 15th in Pisa,
Italy, Galileo Galilei was born. Throughout his life he had numerous accomplishments including being
the first person to study the sky with a telescope, which led to numerous other astronomically
astronomical discoveries. If he would not have existed we may never have uncovered many of the
truths about space and astronomy. Galileo Galilei was a man of thought and curiosity, these
characteristics led him to be one the most well known and influential scientists in the world today.
Vincenzo Galilei and Giulia Ammannati were his parents. His father was a composer and lute player
and his musical talents were then passed down to Galileo. Galileo ... Show more content on

He continued to do research in understanding the motion of falling objects. He was also very
interested in the physics behind the pendulum. Once Hans Lippershey invented the telescope he began
studying and eventually improving upon the design. Though he is often falsely credited with creating
the telescope, he was the first person to use the telescope.
The use of the telescope led him to discover new characteristics of space and the solar system. He
discovered Jupiter s four largest moons and the rings of Saturn. He also discovered that the Milky Way
galaxy is comprised of stars. The observation of mountains on the moon was made by Galileo as well.
He also made numerous discoveries within these discoveries.
One of his biggest and most significant discoveries was the confirmation that the sun was the center of
the universe. This idea of a sun centered universe is called a heliocentric universe. This idea was first
proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. The Catholic Church believed that the Earth was the center of the
universe. This is called a geocentric universe. When Galileo announced his discovery it was
immediately denied by the

Soraya s Moral Development
Soraya s Moral Development
Soraya Taheri is one of Khaled Hosseini s characters in The Kite Runner, who represents what a true
woman and wife should be like. She is an example of Kohlberg s classification of three levels of moral
development in humans. Even though there is not a lot of information in the novel given about Soraya,
her personality can be reviewed based on her behavior throughout the story.
The reader first meets with Soraya in chapter 11, when she is working at a flea market. Her obedience
to her father General Taheri can be referred to the Pre Conventional Morality, stage 1: Obedience and
Punishment Orientation. Because this stage involves fixed beliefs of a child that hisher authority is

Dressed in a stunning winecolored traditional Afghan dress with long sleeves and gold trimmings. She
kissed my father s hands. Sat beside me at last, her eyes downcast. (168 169)
Here, Soraya wears traditional Afghan dress and follows the rules accordingly. She sees this as more
than simple deal, since marriage in Afghanistan is an important event. Her good behaviour is visible
during the time she spends with Amir s father when he lies in bed, sick:
Soraya dedicated herself to taking care of my father. She made his toast and tea in the morning, and
helped him in and out of bed. She gave him his pain pills, washed his clothes, read him the
international section of the newspaper every afternoon, She cooked his favourite dish, potato shorwa,
though he could scarcely eat more than a few spoonfuls, and took him out every day for a brief walk
around the block. And when he became bedridden, she turned him on his side every hour so he
wouldn t get a bedsore. (172)
Soraya takes care of Amir s father, even though no one asked her to do this. According to Kohlberg,
person at this stage has good motives and interpersonal feelings, such as love, trust, empathy and
concern for others, which is exactly what Soraya shows in this passage. Another time when this level
is evident is when Soraya tells Amir how she taught an illiterate woman how to read and write:
When I was in fourth grade in Kabul, my father hired a woman

Balanced Budget Amendment
As we discussed and read about this week in our class, the topic of the US Budget and how, why and
what should we do about it has become a topic with many views and opinions. The United States of
America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments spending practices
for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble popped housing market,
looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a recession have caused the
government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. This debt with caused by what seems to be from
irresponsible spending on both the Legislative and the Executive Branches have done nothing to
lessen this deficit. One idea that has been discussed not only in ... Show more content on

Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits can
be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer
s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This
is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt
can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels
become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it.
Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and
refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often
leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship
on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and
Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt
and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at
lower interests rates.
A federal Balanced Budget amendment based loosely on those instituted by the States of this country
has many benefits. One such advantage

Imagery In Gerard Hopkins s Gods Grander
Gerard Hopkins Gods Grander is a poem illustrating a person concern over how the environment is
being treated in the world. The narrator in the poem dislikes, how the world is being treated because of
the human race not respecting or caring for the environment. The narrator wants the world to be
treated with respect because God created the world with love and care. The poem introduces several
literary elements like symbolism, imagery, and alliteration. The three literary elements help prove that
people can be joyful when the environment is damage and poorly care for.
Imagery is one of the artistic tools used in Gods Grander . In the first stanza Hopkins writes The world
is charged with the grandeur of God. / It will flame out, like shining from shook foil ; ( 1 2). In the
second line the word foil is used. Foil is used to show how God can strike out an electrical ray on
metal and encompassing all. The third line is also another example of imagery It gathers to a
greatness, like the ooze of oil/ crushed. Why do men then now reck his rod (Hopkins, 3 4)? The ooze
of oil shows God is kind and rich which represent the ooze that does not stop. A third example of
imagery in the poem is the second stanza in the poem (And though the last lights off the black West
went/ Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs (Hopkins 11 12). In the two lines, one can
image the sun in the west bringing with it night and the sun rising in the east bringing morning. Each

Forests Are Very Important For The Environment
Intro:
Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated.
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also
provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They
also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests
are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they
can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature
forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation
(drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings).
They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest
trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and
external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component
of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the
understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general
health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of
forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests

As of now, you are all most likely aware that our nation s economy is rapidly declining because of the

Persuasive Essay About Bad Driving
My best friend will likely be the death of me, but I still love her. I have known her for three years and
would trust her with anything, or so I thought. Everything changed the moment she got her license.
Suddenly the need for coffee was completely eliminated, and all I had to do was ride to school with
her. Through many close encounters and two accidents so far, I have learned the definition of a terrible
driver. Every ride with her is an adventure involving skipped stop signs, speeding, and near collisions.
She is the reason why many adults believe that teenagers should not their license because of poor
driving. The first thing I do when I get inside her car is buckle my seatbelt and prepare myself for the
journey ahead. The entire time she is behind the wheel, I am on the edge of my seat checking her
speedometer and watching for children and other cars. Subconsciously, my hands curl around the seat
belt and tightly grip it when I notice a sharp turn or speed bump ahead. I do my best to not make a
sound, but I sometimes catch myself mentioning the turning car ahead. My friend snaps at me and
assures me that she knows what she is doing, but I am not convinced. Only when the car is in park and
my shoes touch solid ground, am I able to breathe normally.
When you are taught to drive, the instructor emphasizes the importance of being aware of your
surroundings and reacting to them. In spite of this being the essence of driving, my friend is oblivious
to everything around

Forecasting Management Philosophy Life Cycles
In this research article Forecasting Management Philosophy Life Cycles: A Comparative Study of Six

Moreover, the United States considers Quality Circle as a fad, while Japan conceives in a different
way. The evidence suggests that Quality Circles execution proved successful in Japan but failed to
prove its significance in the United States.
The above briefing raises few concern areas for me. Like, How the Quality Circle implemented in the
organization? Existed Circle meticulously organized? Were Objectives defined clearly? Were the
participants from similar functional activities rather dissimilar? It seems to me that lack of appropriate
training corresponding to informal problem solving, brainstorming, cause and effect diagrams to the
circle members may have created a gap towards problem solving. After the problem analysis, the
employees must present their views precisely in front of the management. At times, problems between
the management and the employees develop due to which employees cannot put their point forth when
funding issues arise. Management should analyze the problems, facilitating towards real solutions.
These are the possible few reasons responsible for the decline and temporariness of the Quality Circle
as a management fad in the United States.
The author juxtaposes the two management philosophies Six Sigma and Total Quality Management
and, therefore, perceives that they have chief components indistinguishable. Gibson Tesone (2001)

Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia
In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus
uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and
Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes
is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from
one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a
crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual
quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it.
Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage,
of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral
damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnon and Cassandra she
says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in
Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the
repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person.
Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is
to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means the shoal suffers the same

New York City s Rikers Island has been called on of the worst prisons in the country. Throughout its
history, it has been filled with multiple human rights issues that deal with abuse, sexual assaults, lack

who was convicted of eight fatal shootings that took place in the summer of 1976, Tupac Shakur a

Examples Of Controlling Language In Animal Farm
Why Controlling Language Is More Powerful Controlling language is a more powerful utility of
communication because it fears and manipulates the listener into what you want them to do or follow.
Like many sovereigns through the ages who have ruled with fear and control to retain supreme power.
One example is the pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses
controlling language to force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone
wants to rebel. The book Animal Farm is an extended metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal
Farm is about a farm where the animals that the farm contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr.
Jones. By working and keeping a stamina of power, the animals are able to contain a well working,
rising farm.Throughout the book there are many contradictions with who will withstand supreme
power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation through controlling language to hold all power. As
Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The Prince, every ruler should not try to be nice because the
leaders who do rule with fear and control will crush the ones who try to be good and fair. These are all
examples of how people who dominate with controlling language. Although there is uplifting
language, it does not work as well as controlling communication because it usually less potent.
Napoleon from Animal Farm uses controlling language to gain the rule of the animals. Napoleon is a
power hungry nuisance in the

This is the case of every one of you that is out of training. The world of sports is extended abroad

mouth open; and you have nothing to stand upon, nor anything to take hold of, there is nothing
between you and failure but the air; its the only power and mere pleasure of your Coach that holds you

Analysis of Thirteen Days Directed by Robert Donaldson Essay
Analysis of Thirteen Days Directed by Robert Donaldson
Good evening my fellow citizens...This Government, as promised, has maintained the closest
surveillance of the Soviet Military buildup on the island of Cuba. Within the past week, unmistakable
evidence has established the fact that a series of offensive missile sites is now in preparation on that
imprisoned island. The purpose of these bases can be none other than to provide a nuclear strike
capability against the Western Hemisphere. These are the exact words spoken by John F. Kennedy in
his address to the nation on October 22, 1962. The president had finally told the American people
what was happening with the crisis in Cuba and what that government was determined to do about it.

The story was so intriguing in real life that not much needed to be changed. There are many
interesting scenes during the film that had many exact words from documents released after the fact.
One amazing scene takes place in the oval office where the president is still contemplating an air
strike and prepares to address congress regarding his actions. While this scene is very short in the film,
the director did a great job of picking certain important parts of the speeches. In reality, most of the
meeting deals with different men nitpicking parts of the speeches, something an audience would not
love to see, but Donaldson chose some poignant lines General Lemay states that the air strike would
be able to destroy 90% of the missiles in Cuba, but the President shrugs it off and goes ahead with his
original decision. The director emphasizes JFK s determination to stay with his own original plan,
something that allowed him to lead the country trough this troubled time.
I would like to discuss one interpretation that Donaldson used in the film, dealing with Costner s
character. I wish that Donaldson would have downplayed Kevin Costner s character because he tries
to steal the show, when in reality his character was not that influential in Kennedy s decision making.
There a few times when he takes control of the movie in places that are better left with him in the
background. For

Afghanistan Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Afghanistan has gone through centuries of turmoil, being controlled by different groups throughout its
entire history. Starting with Indo Europeans, to Persians, and Greek power with Alexander the Great in
the 4th century BC. India then had an influence, and in the 7th century the Islamic empire came to
power. The European Dark Ages was the time of the Mongol Khanates in Afghanistan, with most of
Afghanistan in the Persian Ilkhanate, and the northeastern peninsula in the Chagatai Khanate. This is
where the Hazara ethnicity is believed to have originated (GALE|CX183...), which makes sense
considering Amir s descriptions of Hassan. In the early 16th century, a ruler from central Asia, Babur,
set up camp in Kabul. He then goes to conquer India, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afghanistan s cuisine, ethnic composition, native dress, religious and ceremonial traditions, as well as
interpersonal relations and folklore are all prime examples of this cultural richness(GALE|CX183...).
Amir s name is itself an example, in Hebrew meaning branch (Name, Meaning, and Biblical Context
of Amir), and in Arabic meaning ruler or prince (Amir). Their food is a distinct melange of Indian,
Chinese, Persian, and Middle Eastern elements, with naan at every meal, and a mild palate of
spices(GALE|CX340...). Clothing is much the same cultural melange. Men wear turbans, which are
present in both Indian and Islamic culture, and women wear chadris or simply a dress with trousers
and a shawl over their head, again mirroring the dress of the Middle East and India(GALE|CX183...).
However, the mixture of influences defining the culture here quickly begins to dissipate as The Kite
Runner continues. The opening of The Kite Runner, is set in 1960s 70s Afghanistan under Zahir Shah,
who, despite government claims to citizens, is under minor influence of the Soviets. Their culture is
thriving, the economy is flourishing, and with a Soviet funded pipeline in place, life is good. The
environment appears quite western and calm. Amir can visit the movie theatre, the market, and
children can roam freely in the streets with no immediate danger. Women are free to move around the
country, and people expressed their opinions. Zahir Shah is working on slowly modernising the

this is the site that most realtors use and it gives the consumer all information that a realtor would be
able to obtain. All in all we have conducted the research on real estate. We have discussed the median
cost a homer buyer is looking for is $212,000. There were surveys conducted half the buyer will pay
$825 or more to $1,075 for amenities for what they want. Also a survey was conducted showing how
many people are using the internet to conduct searches for homes. But the figures also showed using
the internet not many house are public, but using a realtors there are more public. All together it

Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay
Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in economics
during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of
microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take
based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur
and how game theory truly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of
game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their
profits.
Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for
dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends
critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von
Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with
Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory.
The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has
produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an
ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a
market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on
analyzed data. Being that I am

Freeway 280 Analysis
Family and heritage are very important aspects to human life. To begin, this is what is addressed in the
poems, Freeway 280, by Lorna Dee Cervantes and Simon Ortiz s, Hunger in New York City. Both
poems share a great amount of similarities like the way they address the importance of family and
heritage and the message of both poems. They address the importance of family and heritage by using
objects or feelings, metaphorically, to express their family or heritage. Not only that, but both poems
share the message that a person s past stays with them no matter where or how far they go. Ultimately,
both poems address the importance of family and heritage the same way and also share the same
message.

To start, Lorna Dee Cervantes talks about her family and heritage using a freeway as the main idea.
She talks about how a freeway now covers a spot where little houses used to exist near the gray
cannery (Cervantes, 1). Here under this freeway, the author remembers her childhood that now has
been covered, but she remembers that when she used to live in this area, she wanted to leave. She
wanted to find a place that was different from where she lived, but a part of her wants to relive her
childhood. The author states, Maybe it s here en los camps extraños de esta ciudad where I ll find it,
that part of me mown under like a corpse or a loose seed (Cervantes, 20 25). The author wants to
remember all the good times she had during her childhood home. She remembers how important her
family was to her. On the other hand, Hunger in New York City, uses hunger as a way to show the
importance of family and heritage. Simon Ortiz talks that hunger can come from anywhere or from
anything. In this case, he uses hunger in place of his parents. After moving to New York City, the

A Brief Note On The And Its Effects On The Environment
CHAPTER 4
POLLUTION DUE TO EMISSIONS
IC engines generate undesirable emissions during the combustion process. The emissions exhausted
into the surroundings pollute the atmosphere and causes following problems.
Global warming
Acid rain
Smog
Odors
Respiratory and other health hazards.
The major causes of these emissions are non stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of nitrogen, and
impurities in the fuel and air. The emissions of concern are unburnt hydro carbons (HC), oxides of
carbon (COX), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), oxides of sulphur (SOX) and solid carbon particulates.
It is the dream of engineers and scientists to develop engines and fuels such that very few quantity of
harmful emissions are generated, and these could be let into the surroundings without a major impact
on the environment. However with the present technology this is not possible, and after treatment of
the exhaust gases as well as in cylinder reduction of emissions is important.
4.1 AIR POLLUTION DUE TO IC ENGINES
Until the middle of the 20th century the number of IC engines in the world was so small that the
pollution they caused was tolerable. During that period the environment, with the help of sunlight,
stayed relatively clean. As world population grew, power plants, factories, and an ever increasing
number of automobiles began to pollute the air to the extent that it is no longer acceptable. During the
late 1940s, air pollution as a problem was first recognized in the Los Angeles basin

Macbeth Consequences
Every action has a consequence
Every action has a consequence, this statement relates to Shakespeare s play Macbeth , as Macbeth is
a tragic hero who destroys himself by his own wicked and selfish ambitions. At the beginning of the
play Macbeth is portrayed as a courageous, noble hero of Scotland who has bravely won victory over
the war. After this win, Macbeth and Banquo come across three supernatural beings who prophesies
Macbeth s rein as king of Scotland. As the story unfolds, the witches prophecy is proven to be correct
and Macbeth soon becomes a tyrant king who is willing to murder anyone who will bring his rein to
an end. Macbeth s spouse, lady Macbeth is also shown destroying her reputation of a noble woman
through her barbaric actions. The statement every action has a consequence also correlates to the film
the lion king directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The similarities of scars reckless actions to
lead Simba and Mufasa (the king) into a stampede of wildebeests that ended in the death of Mufasa, is
what led to scars downfall and death. Therefore, Shakespeare play Macbeth implements the statement
every action has a consequence through various ways, many similar to the film the lion king.
Macbeth s actions are what lead to the consequence of death. His first significant choice that lead up
to his fatal consequence was to kill king Duncan. This ambition originated in the early stages of the
text when the witches caught the heroes attention by

Persuasive Essay On Drinking In College
Miley Cyrus sings, Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere, hands in the air like we don t care, cause
we came to have so much fun now. (as cited in Davis et al, 2013). As such an influential role model
for many college students, Miley promotes carless drinking in her hit song We Can t Stop . The rates
of students who drink in college are very high and are leading to further problems. As found on
College Drinking Prevention.gov, According to the 2015 NSDUH, 58.0 percent of full time college
students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with 48.2 percent of other persons of
the same age (par. 1). College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related
deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United
States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and
universities should make their students workloads heavier.
Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their
lives. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a
campus setting is a ritual that the students consider an initiation to the start of their college careers.
(par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems including deaths, suicides,
academic issues, drug use. Studies by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence
(2015) show that each year, more than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted
by another student who has been drinking, 95% of all violent crime on college campuses involves the
use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both, and 90% of acquaintance rape and sexual assault on
college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both. (Par. 16). College
students, especially the ones consuming alcohol, are the main stakeholders in this situation. Whether
they are participating in the use of alcohol or not, it still affects them one way or another. Friends and
family members are affected because if something happens to their loved one using alcohol they will
be directly affected. Possible outcomes of careless drinking include car

CART Vs Propaganda
As the strategic marketing analyst for IndyCar, I believe it is in our best interest to orchestrate IndyCar
Series races in the United States, with one single game in a foreign market; preferably a Hispanic
market. CART tried to tap into the foreign market even while utilizing foreign drivers, but it was not
successful. According to Ferrell Hartline, CART feared they were loosing the interest of Americans
and began races in foreign countries and they put too much focus on promoting top foreign drivers as
CART stars (2014, p.442). Furthermore, stars should happen naturally, to alter the media to showcase
foreign stars should solely depend on talent not propaganda.

Sears Case Study Solution
Sears is facing a huge problem when it comes to making profits anymore and they are continuing to

As we can see Sears owns different companies/products within its business. Another strength is that
this company has many employees because it has so many different locations around the U.S. By
having lots of locations you are going to have many employees, which is great. In one article I read I
was able to see some of the weaknesses. As stated, Sears Holdings spent $5.8 billion buying back
shares from 2005 to 2010, draining the company s capital. Now, it has a major cash flow problem
(Rittenhouse, 2017). This shows that this company has to buy back it shares because if it does not they
will lose more money than they are even producing. Another weakness that I read was, From allegedly
rude employees to poor customer service, even loyal customers have lost trust in the company
(Rittenhouse, 2017). As we can see they have poor employees and service, which takes away from the
business because people rather not go to a place like that. This becomes a major threat because when
you have other stores like Amazon, Wal Mart, Costco, where there are all the same products sold and
maybe even at better prices, people are going to want to go to there. These other major stores
definitely attract people because they have low prices and keep up with people s demands. Wal Mart is
even known to match competitors prices and Amazon usually always offers free shipping and low
prices. When you see other stores that do better you go to them. You choose places where you are

How Does Luis Valdez Use Stereotypes In Los Vendidos
Stereotypes are the shackles that keep masses of people unable to be free in the world. One of the
main themes illustrated through the play is the basis of stereotyping in America and how it has and
continues to affect chicanos. Valdez s definition of actos is to inspire others to take social action , the
playwright successfully fulfils his definition through the dialogues and events he describes. The
dehumanizing way that Valdez introduces all of the characters in the play solidifies the pressure they
feel to assimilate and why many resist assimilation. In the play Los Vendidos by Luis Valdez, the
author fulfills his own unique definition of actos in the play by showcasing some of the stereotypes

Chicanos should not have to be forced to totally assimilate to a culture that is not their own to please

hardship that she represents for many Chicano Americans is important because many do not feel that

symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and often fled during war which led to most of them

De Beers Diamonds Essay
POV ANALYSIS #1
De Beers Diamonds
Corrin Wigren
10/10/11
Situation: The De Beers name has always been synonymous with diamonds due largely impart to the
fact that in order for anyone to deal in the diamond business, at some point they will have to deal with
at least one of our subsidiary companies, retailers or distributors. De Beers owns 43% of the worlds
market shares of rough diamonds, but this is way down from the 80% we were at in the 80 s. The
diamond demand is at the mercy of an extremely volatile market which is largely based off of the
consumer s disposable income and with the current recession and cutbacks in consumer spending, it is
important that we find a way to maintain a competitive hold on the market.
SWOT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third solution is to begin cultivating and competing in the Synthetic Diamond market. Synthetic
diamonds are flawless, have no correlation in the public mind with conflict diamonds , they are easy to
make and if manufactured for abrasive wheels, they can be grown in a few days in a lab. However the
technology to grow a diamond big enough to be used for polished jewelry still is not quite there. The
procedures and equipment are not yet time or cost effective. In order to enter the jewelry market with
the right synthetics would cost the average consumer too much.
Decision: We have decided to penetrate the emerging markets of China and India with a new line of
luxury diamonds created with a special serial number and inscriptions bearing the name of the special
promotional line that they will be a part of and the De Beers logo. To restructure ourselves as a private
type luxury brand retailer in the Chinese and Indian markets, we expect to harvest new growth
opportunities and profit potential. Synthetic diamond creation is fine for small sizes to be marketed as
saw blades and abrasive wheels but that sector represents only a small percentage of the need for
diamond production. The cost is too high to manufacture a larger size diamond for the jewelry
consumer. To continue on the path that we are on is not a valid option because the market, the demand
and the consumer are all changing with the times. To stay stagnant against

Three Beasts In Dante s The Divine Comedy, Inferno
Dante, The Pilgrim, midway through his life, finds himself lost in a dark wood near the bottom of a
mountain with only a light to guide him toward the top. As Dante traverses upwards, he stumbles upon
a light bathed clearing where he finds three beasts blocking his way: a leopard, symbolizing
fraudulence; a lion, symbolizing violence; and a she wolf, symbolizing incontinence (Dante s The
Divine Comedy, Inferno. I. 1 50). Once faced with these three beasts, specifically the she wolf, Dante
is driven back into the sunless woods where he is confronted by the poet, Virgil. The poet asks Dante
why he does not simply climb up the mountain, the beginning of the source of all man s joy (Inferno.
I. 77 78). Once Dante explains how the beasts forced him to retreat, Virgil begins to explain that Dante
has two options: either wait for a greyhound to come purge the mountain of the beasts that forced his
retreat, or find another route up the mountain, for the animals guarding the way will not let any man
pass. Virgil continues to explain how it is him who must lead Dante through Hell and Purgatory in
order for him to reach Paradise (Inferno. I. 63 123). With this information, Dante begins to beg Virgil
to guide him [to] the gate Saint Peter guards / and those whose anguish you have told me of (Inferno.
I. 133 134). When presented with the choice to either wait for the greyhound to purge the hill of the
three beasts, or follow Virgil on his trip through The Inferno, Dante chooses the

What Are The Effects Of Argumentative Essay On Child Soldiers
In multiple developing countries right now, there are ongoing wars. These battles are greatly affecting
the local communities, but especially the children. Extremist or terrorist groups are forcing these
children to fight for them. The majority of child soldiers are given no choice whether or not they
desire to fight. Therefore, as long as these children show remorse for their actions and are mentally
stable, they should be granted amnesty. Many child soldiers are drugged before going into battle, and
threatened to avoid them running away. If imprisoning them wasn t inhumane enough, this is truly
unacceptable. Some people may think that child soldiers might pose a danger to the public because of
their previous experience in a war zone, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a child can not comprehend the idea of death yet, then why would they be able to comprehend how
awful it was to murder someone? This is an advantage for those who desire to use them as soldiers,
but a great disadvantage for the children themselves, or anyone who gets in their way. Fortunately,
many governments have argued that, If a child under the age of 15 is too young to fight, then he or she
must also be considered too young to be held criminally responsible... (Johannesburg, paragraph 6).
This rule of thumb protects those who truly don t yet understand the terrible things that they ve done
and can t be trusted to make large decisions for themselves. However, no matter how many children
are freed, there are always more to use. These soldiers are so effective because of many factors, but
mainly because children are much more easy to manipulate than adults. Said by Ishmael Beah himself,
Everybody asks why do they go after children? Because you can easily manipulate them, (Barnett,
paragraph 19). Even if, miraculously, all child soldiers were set free, they would still be targeted,
which is why they need to be granted amnesty. After all, why train a new soldier when you can just as
easily reclaim an old

Changes In Australian Culture Changed From The 1950 s To...
The period of the 1950s to the 1960s brought about drastic changes to the Australian culture and
history. However, the introduction of rock n roll style music was most influential towards teenagers
and significantly altered history within youth culture because of its relatable tone. Furthermore,
Australian society would not be the same without rock n roll style music, it had shaped and moulded
Australia and impacted our daily activities. Additionally, the introduction of the rock n roll genre had
instigated the hippie and other fashion movements. Ultimately, developments and changes in
Australian history during the 1950 s to 1960 s such as the introduction of rock n roll and its emergence

  • 3. Chimpanzee Essay Samantha Walls Anthropology 101 Growth and Development of Chimpanzees Chimpanzees are great apes that are the closest living relatives to humans (Larsen, 2014). These primates have been studied and observed intently for decades, and there are many theories that explain why they are the way they are. Chimpanzees learn the necessary skills of survival through social and cultural contexts and pass these traits along to their offspring. In researching these smart and interesting primates I have understood the social and cultural roles chimpanzees have that are necessary for survival. The mother infant bond is crucial to the development of young chimpanzees and these females are known for teaching their young social roles and behavior, communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether in the wild or in captivity, chimpanzees will benefit from the behaviors of other chimpanzees in a social learning environment (Hirata, 2009). Chimpanzees in the wild are known for behaviors involving tool use such as nut cracking, ant dipping, termite fishing, pestle pounding and many other techniques (Tonooka, Tomonaga Matsuzawa, 1997). The skills are seen to be transferred culturally between communities and across many generations. An example of tool use behavior was studied in West Africa, where chimpanzees are known to crack nuts using stone or wooden tools. In Bossou, chimpanzees crack the nut Elaeis Guineensis which is an oil palm nut, whereas in the Nimba mountains 10 km away from Bossou, chimpanzees would crack a doula nut called Coula edulis. Matsuzawa and others experimented by giving the doula nut to the Bossou chimpanzees, who had never seen or eaten this type of nut before. Besides one adult female, most of the chimpanzees sniffed the nut, picked it up but did not eat it or try and crack the shell. Through observational learning of the adult female that cracked the nut right away, two chimpanzees learned to crack the new nut that was put in their environment. This proved the first evidence of cultural transmission between communities and generations, where the adult chimpanzee grew up in a community nearby that had the same tradition of doula ... • 4. Stock Market Crash Of 1929 Essay In 1929 America experienced one of the worst and the first crash of the stock market. This also lead to what we call the great depression, a time of no economic growth, and to make matters worse we also began to go through the dust bowl times. At that time the market had little to no implemented regulations. President Herbert Hoover at the time blamed the stock market crash on the lack of regulation. Today, the market has many more regulations than there were back then. Some people and presidents want less or more regulation on the market. So which is better? Regulation all the way! Regulation gives increased security, restored trust, political capital, and path dependency. Well how did the Housing crisis happen in the first place? Well what banks were doing was looking for fast short term profits. To get these profits banks had to give out sub prime mortgages . Sub prime mortgages are basically loans given to people who would have a rather hard time paying back the cash. Because of this banks were able to increase interest rates. When the banks raised the interest rates what they did was create a hypothetical bubble that was bound to burst. When this happened banks began to fail. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Teaching, Learning, And Student Centered Approaches Essay Introduction Throughout this semester, I spent approximately 20 hours aiding teachers as well as learning the importance of planning. Although teaching is the foundation that we see for the students, it is important to understand that all of the teaching that occurs can not be done without the planning. This essay will be informative of the planning, techniques, and models 1st grade English teachers at the World Language Academy use to be most effective on the students they are teaching, as well as also explaining the diversity among the students and teachers and how that affects both learning and teaching. What is so significant about this, in my opinion, is that the classroom I was in uses a mixture of direct instruction, cooperative learning, and student centered approaches. All of these methods in one classroom make for a very successful teacher. World Language Academy The World Language Academy is an early education (grades K 5) school. The World Language Academy, or WLA, is an academy that teaches all classes in both English and Spanish. Though not all teachers can speak both languages, the students are taught both ways in order to excel in the real world as they become older. Her good behaviour is visible during the time she spends with Amir s father when he lies in bed, sick: Soraya dedicated herself to taking care of my father. She made his toast and tea in the morning, and helped him in and out of bed. • 12. Balanced Budget Amendment As we discussed and read about this week in our class, the topic of the US Budget and how, why and what should we do about it has become a topic with many views and opinions. The United States of America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments spending practices for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble popped housing market, looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a recession have caused the government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. This debt with caused by what seems to be from irresponsible spending on both the Legislative and the Executive Branches have done nothing to lessen this deficit. One idea that has been discussed not only in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits can be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates. A federal Balanced Budget amendment based loosely on those instituted by the States of this country has many benefits. One such advantage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Imagery In Gerard Hopkins s Gods Grander Gerard Hopkins Gods Grander is a poem illustrating a person concern over how the environment is being treated in the world. The narrator in the poem dislikes, how the world is being treated because of the human race not respecting or caring for the environment. The narrator wants the world to be treated with respect because God created the world with love and care. The poem introduces several literary elements like symbolism, imagery, and alliteration. The three literary elements help prove that people can be joyful when the environment is damage and poorly care for. Imagery is one of the artistic tools used in Gods Grander . In the first stanza Hopkins writes The world is charged with the grandeur of God. / It will flame out, like shining from shook foil ; ( 1 2). In the second line the word foil is used. Foil is used to show how God can strike out an electrical ray on metal and encompassing all. The third line is also another example of imagery It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil/ crushed. Why do men then now reck his rod (Hopkins, 3 4)? The ooze of oil shows God is kind and rich which represent the ooze that does not stop. A third example of imagery in the poem is the second stanza in the poem (And though the last lights off the black West went/ Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs (Hopkins 11 12). • 14. Forests Are Very Important For The Environment Intro: Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation (drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings). They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through many close encounters and two accidents so far, I have learned the definition of a terrible driver. Every ride with her is an adventure involving skipped stop signs, speeding, and near collisions. She is the reason why many adults believe that teenagers should not their license because of poor driving. The first thing I do when I get inside her car is buckle my seatbelt and prepare myself for the journey ahead. The entire time she is behind the wheel, I am on the edge of my seat checking her speedometer and watching for children and other cars. Subconsciously, my hands curl around the seat belt and tightly grip it when I notice a sharp turn or speed bump ahead. I do my best to not make a sound, but I sometimes catch myself mentioning the turning car ahead. My friend snaps at me and assures me that she knows what she is doing, but I am not convinced. Only when the car is in park and my shoes touch solid ground, am I able to breathe normally. Like, How the Quality Circle implemented in the organization? Existed Circle meticulously organized? Were Objectives defined clearly? Were the participants from similar functional activities rather dissimilar? It seems to me that lack of appropriate training corresponding to informal problem solving, brainstorming, cause and effect diagrams to the circle members may have created a gap towards problem solving. After the problem analysis, the employees must present their views precisely in front of the management. At times, problems between the management and the employees develop due to which employees cannot put their point forth when funding issues arise. Management should analyze the problems, facilitating towards real solutions. • 19. Summary Of The Net Imagery In Oresteia In the Oresteia, revenge drives the characters to act. Although they call it justice, it is not. Aeschylus uses net imagery to symbolize faith and destiny. When Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon and Cassandra, the net imagery acts as a symbol of terrible fate. However, then fate reverse. Now, Orestes is caught in Apollo s net and kills his own mother. Lastly, Athene changes the meaning of the net from one of chaos to that of order and justice. These uses of the net imagery help the reader focus on a crucial theme in the play: the superiority of a formal justice system to one based on the individual quest for revenge by progressively altering the nets meaning and its affect on those around it. Clytemnestra s use of the net imagery focuses the reader on the drawback, that is, collateral damage, of a justice system that is based on the individual quest for revenge by emphasizing the collateral damage associated with revenge. As she stands over the bodies of Agamemnon and Cassandra she says: I wrapped in a great net not a fish could have slipped from the shoal (69). Involving the shoal in Clytemnestra s speech explains that with every revenge quest there are innocent people who suffer the repercussions. An avenger does not consider the bystanders surrounding the guilty person. Clytemnestra states that the net was so large that the fish could not escape the shoal. If the fish s fate is to be caught in the net yet it cannot escape the shoal, that means the shoal suffers the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Examples Of Controlling Language In Animal Farm Why Controlling Language Is More Powerful Controlling language is a more powerful utility of communication because it fears and manipulates the listener into what you want them to do or follow. Like many sovereigns through the ages who have ruled with fear and control to retain supreme power. One example is the pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses controlling language to force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone wants to rebel. The book Animal Farm is an extended metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal Farm is about a farm where the animals that the farm contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr. Jones. By working and keeping a stamina of power, the animals are able to contain a well working, rising farm.Throughout the book there are many contradictions with who will withstand supreme power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation through controlling language to hold all power. As Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The Prince, every ruler should not try to be nice because the leaders who do rule with fear and control will crush the ones who try to be good and fair. These are all examples of how people who dominate with controlling language. Although there is uplifting language, it does not work as well as controlling communication because it usually less potent. Within the past week, unmistakable evidence has established the fact that a series of offensive missile sites is now in preparation on that imprisoned island. The purpose of these bases can be none other than to provide a nuclear strike capability against the Western Hemisphere. These are the exact words spoken by John F. One amazing scene takes place in the oval office where the president is still contemplating an air strike and prepares to address congress regarding his actions. While this scene is very short in the film, the director did a great job of picking certain important parts of the speeches. In reality, most of the meeting deals with different men nitpicking parts of the speeches, something an audience would not love to see, but Donaldson chose some poignant lines General Lemay states that the air strike would be able to destroy 90% of the missiles in Cuba, but the President shrugs it off and goes ahead with his original decision. The director emphasizes JFK s determination to stay with his own original plan, something that allowed him to lead the country trough this troubled time. I would like to discuss one interpretation that Donaldson used in the film, dealing with Costner s character. I wish that Donaldson would have downplayed Kevin Costner s character because he tries to steal the show, when in reality his character was not that influential in Kennedy s decision making. There a few times when he takes control of the movie in places that are better left with him in the background. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in economics during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur and how game theory truly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their profits. Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory. The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The emissions exhausted into the surroundings pollute the atmosphere and causes following problems. Global warming Acid rain Smog Odors Respiratory and other health hazards. The major causes of these emissions are non stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of nitrogen, and impurities in the fuel and air. The emissions of concern are unburnt hydro carbons (HC), oxides of carbon (COX), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), oxides of sulphur (SOX) and solid carbon particulates. It is the dream of engineers and scientists to develop engines and fuels such that very few quantity of harmful emissions are generated, and these could be let into the surroundings without a major impact on the environment. However with the present technology this is not possible, and after treatment of the exhaust gases as well as in cylinder reduction of emissions is important. 4.1 AIR POLLUTION DUE TO IC ENGINES Until the middle of the 20th century the number of IC engines in the world was so small that the pollution they caused was tolerable. Macbeth Consequences Every action has a consequence Every action has a consequence, this statement relates to Shakespeare s play Macbeth , as Macbeth is a tragic hero who destroys himself by his own wicked and selfish ambitions. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is portrayed as a courageous, noble hero of Scotland who has bravely won victory over the war. After this win, Macbeth and Banquo come across three supernatural beings who prophesies Macbeth s rein as king of Scotland. (as cited in Davis et al, 2013). As such an influential role model for many college students, Miley promotes carless drinking in her hit song We Can t Stop . The rates of students who drink in college are very high and are leading to further problems. As found on College Drinking Prevention.gov, According to the 2015 NSDUH, 58.0 percent of full time college students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with 48.2 percent of other persons of the same age (par. 1). College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related deaths, suicides, and academic issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United States, the legal drinking age should either be lowered, or the professors in the colleges and universities should make their students workloads heavier. Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their lives. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a campus setting is a ritual that the students consider an initiation to the start of their college careers. (par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems including deaths, suicides, academic issues, drug use. Studies by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (2015) show that each year, more than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking, 95% of all violent crime on college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both, and 90% of acquaintance rape and sexual assault on college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both. (Par. 16). College students, especially the ones consuming alcohol, are the main stakeholders in this situation. De Beers Diamonds Essay POV ANALYSIS #1 De Beers Diamonds Corrin Wigren 10/10/11 Situation: The De Beers name has always been synonymous with diamonds due largely impart to the fact that in order for anyone to deal in the diamond business, at some point they will have to deal with at least one of our subsidiary companies, retailers or distributors. De Beers owns 43% of the worlds market shares of rough diamonds, but this is way down from the 80% we were at in the 80 s. The diamond demand is at the mercy of an extremely volatile market which is largely based off of the consumer s disposable income and with the current recession and cutbacks in consumer spending, it is important that we find a way to maintain a competitive hold on the market. SWOT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third solution is to begin cultivating and competing in the Synthetic Diamond market. Synthetic diamonds are flawless, have no correlation in the public mind with conflict diamonds , they are easy to make and if manufactured for abrasive wheels, they can be grown in a few days in a lab. However the technology to grow a diamond big enough to be used for polished jewelry still is not quite there. The procedures and equipment are not yet time or cost effective. In order to enter the jewelry market with the right synthetics would cost the average consumer too much. Decision: We have decided to penetrate the emerging markets of China and India with a new line of luxury diamonds created with a special serial number and inscriptions bearing the name of the special promotional line that they will be a part of and the De Beers logo. To restructure ourselves as a private type luxury brand retailer in the Chinese and Indian markets, we expect to harvest new growth opportunities and profit potential. Synthetic diamond creation is fine for small sizes to be marketed as saw blades and abrasive wheels but that sector represents only a small percentage of the need for diamond production. The cost is too high to manufacture a larger size diamond for the jewelry consumer. To continue on the path that we are on is not a valid option because the market, the demand and the consumer are all changing with the times. To stay stagnant against ... • 45. Three Beasts In Dante s The Divine Comedy, Inferno Dante, The Pilgrim, midway through his life, finds himself lost in a dark wood near the bottom of a mountain with only a light to guide him toward the top. As Dante traverses upwards, he stumbles upon a light bathed clearing where he finds three beasts blocking his way: a leopard, symbolizing fraudulence; a lion, symbolizing violence; and a she wolf, symbolizing incontinence (Dante s The Divine Comedy, Inferno. I. 1 50). Once faced with these three beasts, specifically the she wolf, Dante is driven back into the sunless woods where he is confronted by the poet, Virgil. The poet asks Dante why he does not simply climb up the mountain, the beginning of the source of all man s joy (Inferno. I. 77 78). Once Dante explains how the beasts forced him to retreat, Virgil begins to explain that Dante has two options: either wait for a greyhound to come purge the mountain of the beasts that forced his retreat, or find another route up the mountain, for the animals guarding the way will not let any man pass. Virgil continues to explain how it is him who must lead Dante through Hell and Purgatory in order for him to reach Paradise (Inferno. I. 63 123). With this information, Dante begins to beg Virgil to guide him [to] the gate Saint Peter guards / and those whose anguish you have told me of (Inferno. I. 133 134). These battles are greatly affecting the local communities, but especially the children. Extremist or terrorist groups are forcing these children to fight for them. The majority of child soldiers are given no choice whether or not they desire to fight. Therefore, as long as these children show remorse for their actions and are mentally stable, they should be granted amnesty. Many child soldiers are drugged before going into battle, and threatened to avoid them running away. If imprisoning them wasn t inhumane enough, this is truly unacceptable. If a child can not comprehend the idea of death yet, then why would they be able to comprehend how awful it was to murder someone? This is an advantage for those who desire to use them as soldiers, but a great disadvantage for the children themselves, or anyone who gets in their way. Fortunately, many governments have argued that, If a child under the age of 15 is too young to fight, then he or she must also be considered too young to be held criminally responsible... (Johannesburg, paragraph 6). This rule of thumb protects those who truly don t yet understand the terrible things that they ve done and can t be trusted to make large decisions for themselves. However, no matter how many children are freed, there are always more to use. These soldiers are so effective because of many factors, but mainly because children are much more easy to manipulate than adults. Said by Ishmael Beah himself, Everybody asks why do they go after children? Because you can easily manipulate them, (Barnett, paragraph 19). Even if, miraculously, all child soldiers were set free, they would still be targeted, which is why they need to be granted amnesty.
