Manuel Ramos, By Manuel Ramos
Similarly to William Johnson, Manuel Ramos takes this photograph to visually reflect a lesser class in
Mexico city though use of location and amount of people. Prisons have a negative connotation in
people s minds because of why and who is sent there. Our society views prison as a place where bad
people who did bad things are forced to go. Thus, we view the people who are in prison or around the
prison as bad people, which causes us to view them as inferiors, instead of equals. Since Ramos took
the photo of large amount of people outside a prison, we unconsciously transfer that negative
connotation onto the people in the photograph. Furthermore, the majority is dressed in dark clothing.
This is significant because just like how we relate prisons to bad things, we associate dark clothing to
bad things as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So by Ramos capturing such a large crowd of people in darker colors outside of a prison, he s able to
project the ideals of wrongness and immorality onto the crowd. In addition to the dark clothing and
location where the photo was captured, all the people are facing the wall. This alludes to the
possibility of the people waiting for someone or something. Since the photo was taken during the
Mexican Revolution, this holds a lot of symbolic meaning in terms of change for the country. With
everyone in the photo facing the wall of oppression directly shows the acknowledgment of that
oppression (the colonizer) and the need for

Rational, Non-Emotional, Reasoning Process
The final doubt questions whether our sufferers can even partake in a rational, non emotional,
reasoning process. The question then is going to revolve around if our sufferers can actually do a
proper cost benefit analysis. Four aspects make up a cost benefit analysis. They are calculating
benefits, costs, the probability of success, and comparing analyses to one another. Our sufferers should
be able to compare, but the other three are in doubt. When attributing costs and benefit, there is both a
logical part, and emotional part. It seems like they can do the logical part, but as we just showed, our
sufferers don t have the capacity to reason emotionally. What this means is that they are not going to
be able to apply proper values to emotional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our sufferers may cause harm to others, but would be unable to understand that this causing of harm is
both a cost for themselves and the agent whom they harmed. They are really separate from the costs in
this way, and so again, the values our sufferers attribute to the costs will not be indicative of what they
should really be. Now, onto the probability of success, we see that our sufferers and their egoistic
personalities get in the way of truly understanding how they likely they will be able to achieve their
ends. Their egoistic nature causes our sufferers to believe that they can accomplish anything, as their
skills are just so great that nothing could stop them. But this false. Obviously, it s not the case that I
will necessarily achieve every ends that I pursue, but rather there is possibility of failure in regards to
most of these ends. It s not always a given that anyone will succeed all of the time, and so our
sufferers equations are off as our sufferers don t understand what the probabilities of success should
be. Then in regards to logical reasoning, it does not appear that our sufferers can properly do

Duality In Edgar Allan Poe s Poetry
Stallings 4
Poetic Principle and The Rationale of Verse. He also produced the thrilling tale, The Cask of
Amontillado, and poems such as Ulalume and The Bells. Most of Poe s work is concerned with terror
and sadness, but in normal circumstances the poet was a pleasant companion. The way Poe talked was
so mysterious and dark, therefore Edgar Allan Poe talked brilliantly, and with so much emotional and
passion in his poems. Even when he does not hurl his characters into the clutch of mysterious forces or
onto the untrodden paths of the beyond, he uses the anguish of imminent death as the means of
causing the nerves to quiver ( The Pit and the Pendulum ), and his grotesque invention deals with
corpses and decay in an uncanny play with the aftermath of death. Edgar ... Show more content on

He was capable of writing angelic or weird poetry, with a supreme sense of rhythm and word appeal,
or prose of sumptuous beauty and suggestiveness, with the apparent abandon of compelling
inspiration; yet he would write down a problem of morbid psychology or the outlines of an
unrelenting plot in a hard and dry style. In Poe s masterpieces the double contents of his temper, of his
mind, and of his art are fused into a oneness of tone, structure, and movement, the more effective,
perhaps, as it is compounded of various elements. As a critic, Poe laid great stress upon correctness of
language, metre, and structure. He formulated rules for the short story, in which he sought the ancient
unities the short story should relate a complete action and take place within one day in one place. To
these unities he added that of mood or effect. He was not extreme in these views, however. He praised
longer works and sometimes thought allegories and morals admirable if not crudely presented. Poe
admired originality, often in work very different from his own, and was sometimes an unexpectedly
generous critic of decidedly minor writers

Silk Mill Research Paper
Scientists found a problem when it came to mass producing spider silk, spiders are extremely
territorial and tend to kill any other spider that invades said territory. This had been tested by scientists
with the Golden Globe Weaver spiders and led to most of the spider farm being wiped out due to their
cannibalism. So instead scientists looked to finding out if a different organism could produce the
spider silk, like goats. First, the experts had to identify the gene that spiders had that produced the kind
of silk they were looking for. Eventually they found that there were six variations that spiders produce.
The one that the scientists decided on is called dragline silk, it makes up the framework of a spider s
web. They then experimented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to one of the scientists taking care of a herd of seven genetically modified goats, Randy
Lewis, these goats are pampered because of how unique they are. The only misgivings I have are for
how far scientists will go in modifying organisms in the future after conquering small changes in
biology such as this. I fear that they may experiment too much with the genetics of organisms and the
original nature may be obliterated with changes that might be added. As a consumer, I am ecstatic
about the repercussions this could have in terms of medically and safety for the average person and for
officers of the law and military. This can save lives and provide better options for those in need then

Masaccio s The Trinity
Created between 1424 and 1427, Masaccio s painting, the Trinity, is a moderately famous painting in
terms of popularity among society but is very renowned in the historical sense. One of the reason for
this is because the painter, Masaccio, died just shortly after he painted the painting and could not make
himself become more popular. But, this painting is no less a masterpiece. The Trinity was created
using Fresco, where the painting is done very quickly on drying wet plaster. Masaccio painted so that
not only did the paint become very hard to corrode but appear to visualize a space beyond the wall it
was on. The painting is divided into two parts as well. The top portion uses linear perspective and this
painting is a very special case of the technique. First of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in fact because Masaccio drew the barrel vaulted top of the interior from a lower viewpoint and
this in turn made the lines, orthogonals, of the ceiling linearly converge on the top of bottom section,
the ledge above the altar. The painting includes 7 key figures 8 if you count the skeleton. On the top
portion, the donors are standing on the ledge outside the inner altar. Inside you have 5 figures. From
the top down, you have God the father, a dove, Christ and then Virgin Mary and St. John the
Evangelist. The dove is a representation of the Holy Ghost and the chapel scene represents the
crucifixion of Christ with important figures involved. God the Father can be made out to have a foot
and be actually standing on the inside of the chapel, not in a heavenly or alien place a key
characteristic of the Renaissance, Humanism. To add on, this part, that has only a few colors used, in

Law Firm Of Firm Law
Law firm of Firm Law LLP Sole proprietorship, partnerships, and corporations are just a few different
organization entities that people use when starting a new business. One can change from one business
type into another using proper paperwork and by abiding state rules and regulations. There are various
factors to consider when starting a business such as the nature of the business being started, the
business type, investments or funding, and employees. First, we will examine what business type is
better suited for the Law Firm of Firm Law to operate. Then, we will consider the pros and cons of
said business type to ensure proper fit. After, we will discuss the issue of investments and stock
issuances, if required. Lastly, we will cover the policies and standards needed for employees to follow
in our business structure. First, the business I am starting is a law firm named The Law Firm of Firm
Law operating in the greater Los Angeles area; however, this is a special type of business and cannot
be started without going through the proper channels beforehand. A law firm is a type of professional
career in which one has to prove to the state with certificates of competency that one is able to
perform required tasks in said field. These businesses are usually but not restricted to sole
proprietorships, Limited Liability Partnerships, and Limited Liability Corporations. I believe that in
order to narrow down which business structure is best we need to weigh the pros and cons

Literary Sources From Online On Climate Change
Methodology
There were three major steps to our research. We gathered literary sources on climactic trends, spoke
to stakeholders, and then created maps to show our findings.
As a result of the fact Smith College does not have a plan on how to prepare in response to changes in
climate, and that most data which is readily available to the public focuses on large scale climate
change information, the project focused on presenting information specific to Smith College in a way
which would be accessible to the Climate Change Study Group which was formed in the fall of 2015
as well as anyone else that wished to understand the impacts of climate change that may happen.
To begin the project, literary sources from online on climate change were first explored. The group
met to work with Rocco Piccinino from the Smith College Young Library who helped in identifying
the best ways to use online data bases to find information. Three articles came to the forefront for use
as a result of the detailed information which the articles had on climate change as well as the
specialized information relating to the region. These articles were the National Climate Assessment,
NRDC Climate Change, and The Northeast Environmental Impact Assessment. With the completion
of the initial reading of these articles the pieces were then broken down in an attempt to find specific
information relating to specific climate impacts. Each member of the group highlighted five or more
pieces of information from the

The Origin Of Eugenics
EUGENICS
The origin of eugenics is strongly rooted to the emergence of Darwinism in the late nineteenth
century. Eugenics would seek increased stronger, healthy, intelligent people or specific ethnic or social
group to which directly or indirectly promotes non procreation of those who do not possess these
qualities coming to regard their application as an advantage in saving resources economic for
countries. In this sense it would be related to Malthusianism, the natalist and nationalism. The
methods of eugenics nineteenth and early twentieth century ranged from forced sterilization to
genocide. Modern eugenicists methods focus on prenatal diagnosis and fetal exploration, genetic
counseling, in vitro fertilization and genetic engineering.

Shale Gas Fracking Research Paper
Abstract This paper presents an initial argument regarding the presently booming economy of shale
gas extraction within the United Kingdom. The extraction of shale gas, as it has been in the United
States, has not been without its due challenges. Hence, it is imperative to consider the views of the
government regarding this arising economy change. Moreover, in this paper, the regulatory framework
present to maintain and control the extraction of shale gas and all of its supplementary practices has
been presented in this paper. A qualitative methodology of examination has been suggested for the
evaluation of the research questions presented and it is recommended that such an examination is
likely to add to the knowledge of the policymakers and the investors. The study concludes with
pointing out the implications for the aforementioned stakeholders. Introduction Problem Statement: To

Similarities Between Jane Eyre And Chinese Cinderella
Both of the stimulus texts show the struggle of unwanted girls in different eras and countries and
explore the theme of orphans. Jane Eyre is known as one of the most famous orphans in literature,
therefore, the text would be ideal for the theme. The two texts: Chinese Cinderella and Jane Eyre,
share some similarities; Jane Eyre is an orphan living with her aunt, Mrs Reed, and although Adeline
lives with her father and her step mum she lives like an outsider just like Jane. In the autobiography
Adeline is treated poorly by her parents just like Jane Eyre is by Mrs Reed. Although, Adeline is not a
typical orphan she is treated as one by her father. I chose the theme of orphans because it was an
appealing topic as although, have evolved there is still a high amount of child ... Show more content

So I decided charity appeal to help less fortunate girls would be appropriate and an Ofsted report to
show the treatment of orphans in the Victorian era in a comedic manner.
The charity appeal targets parents, particularly women because they possess maternal instincts making
them more empathetic towards abandoned young girls because they can relate. The sole purpose of the
text is to persuade people to donate money to a charity which supports orphaned girls in China
because Adeline is Chinese. Alternatively, it was written to educate those unaware of mass amounts of
abandoned girls in China. The text is inspired primarily by Adeline Yen Mah s autobiography, Chinese
Cinderella. Yen Mah writes about her childhood, growing up as an unwanted child, If you had not
been born, Mama would still be alive . Similarly, Jane Eyre is an unwanted girl which is why she is
sent by Mrs Reed to Lowood the focus of my second text, a parody of an Ofsted report. The text was

The Monster Of Living With Grief

The Monster of Living with Grief
As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ). When it comes to grief
there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression
and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is
struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is
visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He
also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Ness shows how people in
both literature and real life tend to go through five stages of grief while dealing with a loved one who
has a terminal illness because of the overwhelming lamentation it inflicts.
The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book, Conor s grandma
told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one of the new treatments. He denied it
by saying, The treatments are making her better... (42). Even though the treatments had not worked,
Conor refused to believe that the treatments will not work because he needs his mother to get better.
The American Psychological Association says that most people deny the problem because it is easier
to distance oneself from friends or family. Once a person isolates from those who can help, it can lead

Analysis Of Swift s The Sun Of The Eighteenth Century
Swift s Neoclassical Classic
The sun of the Eighteenth century shines brilliantly on the era of British wealth and power, filling
every part of great British life with pride and confidence. British literature, no longer stoic and
medieval is revitalized and reclassified. As in the early Renaissance days Restoration authors think
highly of Classical literature. Unlike their predecessors however, they are freer with classical style and
prose. In one such restoration work, patterned after early Greek and Roman Cynics, author Jonathan
Swift Calls the British Isles to action with an unprecedented solution to the problem of poverty; and
exemplifies neoclassical literature in satirical style, sordid subject, and solid structure.
Satire is one of the distinguishing marks that makes A Modest Proposal a classic example of
Neoclassical Literature. In his use of Satire Jonathan Swift was undoubtedly influenced by Greek and
Roman cynics who criticized the status quo. Like some of these cynics, instead of offering a
reasonable and moral solution to a social problem, Swift captures the attention of the Irish people by a
proposition of cannibalism. Describing his proposal Swift writes, A child will make two dishes at an
entertainment for friends and when the family dines alone the fore or hind quarter will make a
reasonable dish and seasoned with a little pepper or salt will be very good boiled on the fourth day
especially in winter. In statements like this Swift use the power of

Aboriginal Women are Oppressed in Society Essay
Throughout history, women have been the victims of oppression in society. In specific, Aboriginal
women have suffered through racism, sexism, domestic violence, and over representation. Through
the implementation of the Indian Act, Aboriginal women have been forced to abandon their culture in
order to assimilate into Canadian society. The effects of colonization has changed the way Aboriginal
women are treated; emotionally and physically, and therefore are the source of oppression today.
The Indian Act was created under the provisions section 91 of the Constitution Act of 1867 (Moss,
1990). The act was implemented to define who an Indian is and the rights that come with the title.
These rights pertain to status, bands and reserves for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treaty benefits, health, rights to living on the reserve and property are forfeited as a result of losing
Indian status. This also happens when an Indian women gets married to another Indian man. She loses
her rights to her own band, and has to become a member of her husband s band. Ultimately, if the
women becomes widowed or abandoned then she loses all status of being an Indian all together. On
the other hand, men can marry a non status woman and all of his rights would be kept. With strides of
equality throughout history, it takes a step back when Aboriginal women are entirely dependent of
their husband. Several cases were took to court in the 1970 s, but not until 1980 is when there was a
connection found between the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Canadian Human
Rights Act. With this section in direct violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political
Rights, the removal of a woman s Indian status while marrying a non Indian man was done and Bill C
31 was passed so victims of the Indian Act can be reimbursed. However, Bill C 31 is still under
scrutiny because those who have their status reinstated to them can only pass it on for one generation.
This is a violation under Section 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Payne, 1992). The Indian
Act is a controversial piece of legislation that was passed in 1876. It has been amended throughout the
times, but the core concept of the Indian Act still

Essay On Mexican War
The Mexican and American War The United States had emerged as a modern capitalist nation, and the
spirit of nationalism in the country was strong and growing (Henderson 71). As tensions grew between
the Unites States and Mexico, there was a thirst for war. The Unites States declared war with Mexico,
because they owned land that Americans desired, resulting in America s fulfillment of achieving their
philosophy of Manifest Destiny . The blood boil of both countries caused a lot of bloodshed. The
dispute lasted for a long two year battle which was for huge amounts of land. The Americans were
victorious and claimed new territories from the conflict. Manifest means obvious movement or
expected movement. In the 1840 s, this philosophy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texans revolted against their Mexican government to seek for independence. This caused the Texas
annexation and revolution. In the 1830 s, Texas fought for their independence from Mexico. This
sparked the Mexican revolution. There were three main reasons why Texans wanted independence:
Mexico outlawed slavery, high taxes, and the Mexicans wanted everyone to join the Catholic Church.
One of the major players in Texas was Stephen Austin. He had 300 land grants which he gave to the
Texans. After some time, Stephen Austin went all the way to Mexico to present petitions for a greater
self governing government for Texas. Even though Stephen Austin was known as the father of Texas,
the President of Mexico harshly denied his request. Stephen Austin wanted to establish an independent
area where there were no drunkards, no gamblers, no profane swearers, and no one that was lazy
would be allowed. Austin wanted people that were going to work. When Austin was petitioning for the
self governing state, he was arrested for inciting a revolution (Faber 75). His arrest caused many little
rebellions. After his return in 1835, he concluded that the only way he was able to have his self
governing state was to start a war with Mexico. Knowing that the Texans were not obeying Mexico s
laws, the Mexican President sent Antonio López de Santa Anna to fight and stop the revolting Texans.
Santa Anna gained his earliest military experience fighting for the Spanish army

Computer Security And Social Engineering Essay
Computer security is a very important topic in today s world. One does not have to look far to read
about data breaches, DDoS attacks, or other computer related crimes. When we think of cybercrime,
we usually envision the Hollywood portrayal of technical hackers typing vigorously and wearing dark
sunglasses. However, in reality, hacking tends to be much less glamorous. Actually, one critical
element is often overlooked by the general public and movies alike; yet, every security professional
knows, people are the weakest link, when it comes to security. In fact, as part of a demonstration at the

Grauballe Man Poem Meaning
The Grauballe Man, is a bog body that has been preserved for more than two thousand years, is one of
Seamus Heaney s North collection poems. Historically, the Grauballe Man is considered to be one of
the most well preserved body of all time. It was discovered in the peat bogs in Jutland, Denmark. The
body showed signs of violence indicating that the man was murdered rather than dying of natural
causes. Heaney s poem indicates his preoccupation with the body because it evokes him of the
atrocities that has happened during The Trouble. Heaney utilizes imagery to describe the bog body,
utilizes metaphor to associate bog body and the victims of Northern Ireland, and utilizes allusion to
make historical references. Heaney explains the cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He connects the Grauballe Man with a famous sculpture in order to connect one thing with another.
Heaney states that, hung in the scales with beauty and atrocity: with the Dying Gaul too strictly
compassed. Dying Gaul is a Hellenistic sculpture that realistically depicts the pain and suffering
experienced by a dying man, the root of the reference is that the pose of the sculpture reminiscences
the death position of the bog man. Heaney uses the allusion of Dying Gaul in order to make the reader
develop the idea of the unification of artifice and nature, which reveals the unique characteristics of
human beings. Additionally, the Grauballe Man itself, is also an allusion. The allusion of the Grauballe
Man exemplifies the brutal history that has happened in the North. The Grauballe Man personifies the
sacrifices for religious excursions in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. Furthermore, the cured
wound opens inward to a dark elderberry place exemplifies that the open wound will forever be
exposed to the brutality and the violence that is happening in Northern Ireland. However, it is very
ironic because the wounds of the bog body can never be cured because the body cannot develop or
heal itself

The New York Times By Catherine Rampell
The momentum of obsolescence became increasingly stronger as the decades passed, and in
contemporary society, the dynamics of planned, technological, and psychological obsolescence is
unmistakable. Today, products are made of faulty parts, and have become gradually more expensive to
repair. Consumers are now forced to weigh up the price of repair alongside the price of a replacement,
giving them little choice but to pick the easier alternative and replace the item. An example of this
modern triad of obsolescence can be seen within the Apple Conspiracy , where it is alleged that Apple
releases software updates for iPhones that instead of enhancing the performance of the phone as
promised, actually degrade it by making the phone slow, and decrease the battery life. Coincidentally,
this often occurs when the newest model of the iPhone is released, prompting frustrated users to either
upgrade their phone, or deal with a degraded product. The conspiracy s major mainstream moment
was an article in the New York Times by Catherine Rampell:
At first, I thought it was my imagination. Around the time the iPhone 5S and 5C were released, in
September, I noticed my sad old iPhone 4 was becoming a lot more sluggish. The battery was starting
to run down much faster, too. But the same thing seemed to be happening to a lot of people who, like
me, swear by their Apple products. When I called tech analysts, they said that the new operating
system (iOS 7) being pushed out to existing users

Decompression Sickness Essay
Decompression sickness also known as the bends is an illness that can affect divers who are in
situations that involve rapidly decreasing pressure around the body. Under any pressure nitrogen and
oxygen is absorbed by the body. When a diver descends in water the pressure around them increases
by 1ATM for every ten metres which means more nitrogen is absorbed than normal. This phenomenon
is explained by Henry s Law. During decent and while divers are on the bottom the diver is
continually absorbing nitrogen into the tissues until the pressure in the tissues is equivalent to the
external pressure of the surroundings. This is when a person s tissues are saturated and cannot absorb
any more nitrogen. When the diver ascends slowly the nitrogen

The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding Military Offices
To view the Royal Military College (RMC) as an instrument for molding military officers for the
nation would be an accurate means of outlining the institutions objective. In the Organizational
Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications, textbook by Stephen Robbins and Nancy Langton,
organizational culture is defined as: a system of shared meaning and common perception held by
members of an organization that distinguishes it from other organizations. (Robbins and Langton 316)

While in the early part of the last century some of the original goals of RMC included producing
quality officers in Canada for the war effort at the same time developing Canadian autonomy from
Great Britain; today s goals and objectives are indeed different. Yet the point remains that the college
did not get shut down when the mandate changed. This fact reflects its immortality.
There are many other military academies in the world; an example of one closest to home is that of the
United States Military Academy, WestPoint. RMC and WestPoint have nursed a competitive rivalry
since the early years of RMC. While both institutions are in the business of producing commissioned
officers for their respective nations, the two academies are very different in terms of character and
personality. According to the field of organizational behavior, institutions are said to have personalities
just as people do. This is where culture plays a role in each respective military academy and
determining the atmosphere of the institution. At both RMC and WestPoint there are differing notions
of acceptable behavior. The first years at WestPoint are treated very differently than they are at RMC.
The USMA 4th classman, also known around the campus as pleebe is kept distant from the upper
years at WestPoint. While RMC has taken a very different stance, whereby first year cadets are treated

Major Depressive Disorder Analysis
Many people throughout their lives go through periods of sadness due to various different things such
as grief at the loss of a loved one or a stressful event occurring, and this process is natural, even a part
of human nature, in order to experience all aspects of life and get support from those around us
(Horwitz Wakefield, 2007). However, this organic sadness, as it were, is quite different from what we
call depression as a mental illness; as to say that one has a mood disorder, a number of symptoms must
occur at once and impair functioning of the individual (Ingrim, n.d). To put into perspective the
prevalence of this disorder, over 98 million people are affected globally, with middle and low income
countries more highly afflicted, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the DSM 5, the main feature of mood disorders is a disturbance of mood. One of the
most highly prevalent mood disorders is Major Depressive Disorder, an often chronic and severe
disorder. It is considered a recurrent disorder when not chronic, where clients remit from depressive
episodes and symptoms go away for a period of time but may return at a later time as part of the same
depressive episode, or otherwise recovering from a treated episode but a new episode recurs later in
the future (Hollon, Stewart Strunk, 2006). The current criteria used to diagnose Major Depressive
Disorder (MDD) are as follows; five or more of these symptoms must be present over a consecutive 2
week period, characterised as a major depressive episode (MDE) and must be a change from previous
functioning, including insomnia or hypersomnia, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, recurrent
thoughts of death and/or suicide, significant unusual weight or appetite loss, reduced ability to think
and concentrate. Furthermore, either one of these following two or both symptoms are a must;
depressed mood or diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities. Children may have
irritable moods rather than depressed. Furthermore, depressed people report less enjoyment in social
interactions and lesser social contact than non depressed people, supported by research showing that
depressed people have social cognition deficits whereby they have difficulty navigating their social
environment and impaired interpersonal functioning (Bora Berk,

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin

nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the
cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage
and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England,
and spark anti cruelty legislation in

Disadvantages Of Forensic Evidence
The difficulties I foresee with favoring a certain task force would be many different people in
choosing the team, which will also mean that many different people there will be many different
opinions. With different opinions there will be many different favors with any approach. By waiting
and listening to each of the opinions you will receive greater strengths. Sometimes time is crucial
make sure all officers are heard. The real difficulties would be local versus federal investigators
knowledge of severity of the crime. By using the more knowledgeable officers as subject matter
experts will bring less knowledgeable officers the confidence they need to keep on working the case.

Typically, after an explosion there is a fire destroying so much evidence. By the explosion causing
fire, this minimizes the amount of analysis that can be collected. However, in the same hand there can
many different types of forensic evidence such as the scene, where it actually happened, the location
of the location. Such as a bathroom within a five bedroom home. Some details are irrelevant and some
can be used in court to argue strong points. Even if a fire designates investigators can still state
whether the explosion as a bomb, or if it was an accident. The investigators can look into things such a
gas leaks, flammable gas any evidence showing actual proof that the explosion was meant to be done
or merely an accident. The investigation for forensic evidence is always lengthy, but when an
explosion is being investigated, it is much lengthier. The steps for forensic evidence seems easy, but it
is actually more difficult when it is an explosion being investigated. Steps for handling forensic
evidence are as follows. Identify, collect, preserve, inventory, package and transport evidence to the
evidence room where the evidence will then sit. After the investigators make sure that all physical
evidence is collected, then they move onto analyzing all evidence

The United States Contribution to the Rise of Pinochet
The date September 11th is not only a date of terror for the United States, but for the country Chile it
also marks the anniversary of a new error of fear. On September 11th, 1973 General Augusto Pinochet
overthrew President Salvador Allende, a democratically elected socialist. For seventeen years after
this Pinochet dictated over Chile and caused for the murder of over three thousand Chileans, the
disappearance of over a thousand, and the torture and jailing of tens of thousands more. What might
be even more shocking though, is that the United States had a direct contribution to this brutal

Once in power, Pinochet was assisted by the United States to remain in power. Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger attempted to hide from Congress and the media the breaking of human rights acts
that Pinochet was responsible for. Only a month after he came into power reports from the CIA came
in stating that Pinochet planned to destroy any and all resistance within two months and this will
require more killing by the military. With this knowledge Kissinger, rather than accusing Pinochet of
breaking human rights laws, attempted to outmaneuver the U.S. Congress to supply Pinochet with
weapons that Congress had denied (Landau 1999, pages 16 17). This support allowed Pinochet to gain
a complete dictatorship. As ruler he closed the Chilean Congress, banned political parties, censored
the press and took over the universities. Through the United Sates lack of action and assistance toward
him, Pinochet used his ability to violate human rights standards and rule over the population with
terror for seventeen years (Kornbluh 2003, pages 19 22).
This cruel dictatorship, was one, Kissenger could have prevented (Landau 1999, pages 17). Thousands

There are several international development organization that are working in developing nations,
especially in sub Sahara Africa. According to National Statistics Office (2008) out of 13 million
people, 86% live in rural areas and 14% are in urban areas. 65% of the rural population is recorded to
be poor. It is also documented that the family sizes in the rural areas are larger as compared to those in
the urban areas which demonstrate that an any ideal situation, we expect high food consumption in the
rural areas as compared to the urban areas.

3. What has been learned from existing work?
4. Should they embark on scaling up their work?
5. Are they meeting the expectation on their mission?
Research Objective
The objective of this study is to obtain additional information in the following areas:
Interventions o To understand international development organization s operations and interventions,

The Utopian Philosophy of Shangri La in James Hilton s Lost Horizon
For some people life may not be satisfactory. Life has many troubles including death, pain, and
suffering. It leaves little hope. There are ways in which people can live to have a good life. This
method of how a person should live is viewed differently thoughout the world. James Hilton
represents this combination of ideas and cultures in the novel, Lost Horizon (1933). This novel tells
the tale of four distinctively different people retreating from a war zone. In their retreat they are
kidnapped and taken by plane deep into the Himalayan mountain wilderness. Little did they know that
here in the confines of the mountains there is a paradise. This paradise is called ... Show more content

The mental environment of the people of Shangri La is the search of knowledge. Platonism, the theory
of Plato, maintains that to live the good life, one must first acquire certain kinds of knowledge. This
theory represents the environment of Shangri La, searching for knowledge. Hilton portrays the
Shangri Lite s search of knowledge through their extensive library which contains the world s best
literature (95). This great asset of Shangri La represents the theory of Plato and showed that Shangri
La is a place abundant is Platonic philosophy. The second philosophical view aiding in the setting of
Shangri La is the theory of Aristotle. Aristotle believed that the good life is one of balance. The people
of Shangri La also lived this way claiming that our prevalent belief is moderation. (74). The people are
moderately sober, moderately chaste, and moderately honest (75). Moderation is abundant throughout
the setting of Shangri La, and the people claim that moderation [is], y know the motto of the firm
(180), whereas firm represents Shangri La. This principle makes for a considerable degree of
happiness (74). This relates to the view of Aristotle, that the good life is a life of happiness. The
happiness of Shangri La is portrayed as one of the pleasantest communities, (108) where the
inhabitants are courteous and carefree (108) and where one will doubtless find great happiness (198).
Even in happiness there is moderation. Shangri La

Satire In The Firebombing Of Vonnegut
Satire is an important part of postmodernism and it is one of the most prominent aspects of Vonnegut s
novels, with his humor manifesting itself as a form of black humor. With his very dark sense of
humor, Vonnegut confronts many of the negative aspects of the world and describes them in such a
way that it disarms and desensitizes the reader to the shock of what they are reading. Slaughterhouse
Five is an excellent example of this. When describing the shock and horror that Billy witnessed during
the firebombing of Dresden, Vonnegut takes the time to describe Weary and Wild Bob and Rumfoord,
characters who find glory in wholesale death and destruction (Cox 272). In writing his response to the
horrors of war, Vonnegut takes the approach that it is better to make the reader laugh at something and
have them slowly realize the horror of what they have read, as opposed to immediately shocking the
reader by presenting gory details of his experiences in Dresden. Even the name of his main character
is subtle black humor. Billy Pilgrim, whose name is a reference to John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s
Progress and connotes that Vonnegut s pilgrim is an average joe burdened with a life of agony and
terror (F1). His name is also in reference to Vonnegut s feeling that the Second World War was a war
fought by mere children, hence the book s subtitle The Children s Crusade. The idea of young men
who were no more than children in essence when they were sent off to fight and die in a foreign land
is a distressing and horrible idea for many people to think about. Yet through his humor Vonnegut
forces the reader to come to terms with this, but in a way that eases a reader into the darkness of the
novel instead of running into it head on. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut does not limit his black
humor to the topic of war, but also opens up criticisms of society as he sees it. Through the
Tralfamadorian aliens that kidnap Billy and take him captive on their planet and the science fiction of
Kilgore Trout, Vonnegut uses his humor in regards to a variety of topics not related to war. Once such
example of Trout s novels that are throughout the story is The Gospel from Outer Space in which a
visitor from outer space studied

The Goal Of Archaeological Research
Lindsey Grissom

Writing Assignment 1 For as long as humans have been around we have had cultural traditions
specific to our species. The goal of archaeological research is to obtain a broad understanding of
human culture. Archaeologists are interested in studying culture in the past and in the present through
material remains. Remains include anything that was created or modified for use by humans. By
studying culture in this way we gain insight into how different communities lived in different areas of
the world. We see how our ancestors lived and how culture has changed over time as our ancestors
adapted to their environments. Archaeology covers all time periods and geographic areas that humans
live or have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parenting shapes how children are raised. We need an archaeology of parenting and also an
archaeology of childhood because we have to be able to look at the two groups separately. However,
we also need to realize that these children grow up to be adults and everything they do as children and
how they are raised effects how adults live in the future. Despite childhood development being such a
big influence on who we are as adults, there has been surprisingly little attention devoted to
understanding how Neanderthal childhood was distinctive. Spikins argues that it is now crucial to
forward our understanding of children in prehistory . Traditionally, people view Neanderthal children
as having lived a dangerous and harsh life. However, a lack of recent review of this culture could
mean we are neglecting aspects of Neanderthal life that we overlooked in the past. Most research up
until now has focused on biological aspects such as growth and development by using skeletal
analysis. While this is important we have greatly neglected the social and cultural aspects of these
people s lives. Like early modern humans, Neanderthal children were born in a rather altricial state.
This would make them vulnerable and mean there had to be some type of hands on care by an older
person in the first few years of development. This could have been by the infant s biological parents or
through alloparenting however without studying the social aspects of life we wouldn t know which
was

  • 2. Manuel Ramos, By Manuel Ramos Similarly to William Johnson, Manuel Ramos takes this photograph to visually reflect a lesser class in Mexico city though use of location and amount of people. Prisons have a negative connotation in people s minds because of why and who is sent there. Our society views prison as a place where bad people who did bad things are forced to go. Thus, we view the people who are in prison or around the prison as bad people, which causes us to view them as inferiors, instead of equals. Since Ramos took the photo of large amount of people outside a prison, we unconsciously transfer that negative connotation onto the people in the photograph. Furthermore, the majority is dressed in dark clothing. This is significant because just like how we relate prisons to bad things, we associate dark clothing to bad things as well. ... So by Ramos capturing such a large crowd of people in darker colors outside of a prison, he s able to project the ideals of wrongness and immorality onto the crowd. In addition to the dark clothing and location where the photo was captured, all the people are facing the wall. This alludes to the possibility of the people waiting for someone or something. Since the photo was taken during the Mexican Revolution, this holds a lot of symbolic meaning in terms of change for the country. With everyone in the photo facing the wall of oppression directly shows the acknowledgment of that oppression (the colonizer) and the need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question then is going to revolve around if our sufferers can actually do a proper cost benefit analysis. Four aspects make up a cost benefit analysis. They are calculating benefits, costs, the probability of success, and comparing analyses to one another. Our sufferers should be able to compare, but the other three are in doubt. When attributing costs and benefit, there is both a logical part, and emotional part. It seems like they can do the logical part, but as we just showed, our sufferers don t have the capacity to reason emotionally. Our sufferers may cause harm to others, but would be unable to understand that this causing of harm is both a cost for themselves and the agent whom they harmed. They are really separate from the costs in this way, and so again, the values our sufferers attribute to the costs will not be indicative of what they should really be. Now, onto the probability of success, we see that our sufferers and their egoistic personalities get in the way of truly understanding how they likely they will be able to achieve their ends. Their egoistic nature causes our sufferers to believe that they can accomplish anything, as their skills are just so great that nothing could stop them. But this false. Obviously, it s not the case that I will necessarily achieve every ends that I pursue, but rather there is possibility of failure in regards to most of these ends. It s not always a given that anyone will succeed all of the time, and so our sufferers equations are off as our sufferers don t understand what the probabilities of success should be. He also produced the thrilling tale, The Cask of Amontillado, and poems such as Ulalume and The Bells. Most of Poe s work is concerned with terror and sadness, but in normal circumstances the poet was a pleasant companion. The way Poe talked was so mysterious and dark, therefore Edgar Allan Poe talked brilliantly, and with so much emotional and passion in his poems. Even when he does not hurl his characters into the clutch of mysterious forces or onto the untrodden paths of the beyond, he uses the anguish of imminent death as the means of causing the nerves to quiver ( The Pit and the Pendulum ), and his grotesque invention deals with corpses and decay in an uncanny play with the aftermath of death. He was capable of writing angelic or weird poetry, with a supreme sense of rhythm and word appeal, or prose of sumptuous beauty and suggestiveness, with the apparent abandon of compelling inspiration; yet he would write down a problem of morbid psychology or the outlines of an unrelenting plot in a hard and dry style. In Poe s masterpieces the double contents of his temper, of his mind, and of his art are fused into a oneness of tone, structure, and movement, the more effective, perhaps, as it is compounded of various elements. As a critic, Poe laid great stress upon correctness of language, metre, and structure. He formulated rules for the short story, in which he sought the ancient unities the short story should relate a complete action and take place within one day in one place. To these unities he added that of mood or effect. He was not extreme in these views, however. He praised longer works and sometimes thought allegories and morals admirable if not crudely presented. This had been tested by scientists with the Golden Globe Weaver spiders and led to most of the spider farm being wiped out due to their cannibalism. So instead scientists looked to finding out if a different organism could produce the spider silk, like goats. First, the experts had to identify the gene that spiders had that produced the kind of silk they were looking for. Eventually they found that there were six variations that spiders produce. As a result of the fact Smith College does not have a plan on how to prepare in response to changes in climate, and that most data which is readily available to the public focuses on large scale climate change information, the project focused on presenting information specific to Smith College in a way which would be accessible to the Climate Change Study Group which was formed in the fall of 2015 as well as anyone else that wished to understand the impacts of climate change that may happen. To begin the project, literary sources from online on climate change were first explored. The group met to work with Rocco Piccinino from the Smith College Young Library who helped in identifying the best ways to use online data bases to find information. Three articles came to the forefront for use as a result of the detailed information which the articles had on climate change as well as the specialized information relating to the region. These articles were the National Climate Assessment, NRDC Climate Change, and The Northeast Environmental Impact Assessment. The Monster Of Living With Grief Abby Wigand Mr. Mitchell Communication Art IV 30 September 2016 The Monster of Living with Grief As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ). When it comes to grief there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Ness shows how people in both literature and real life tend to go through five stages of grief while dealing with a loved one who has a terminal illness because of the overwhelming lamentation it inflicts. The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book, Conor s grandma told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one of the new treatments. He denied it by saying, The treatments are making her better... (42). Even though the treatments had not worked, Conor refused to believe that the treatments will not work because he needs his mother to get better. The American Psychological Association says that most people deny the problem because it is easier to distance oneself from friends or family. • 17. Analysis Of Swift s The Sun Of The Eighteenth Century Swift s Neoclassical Classic The sun of the Eighteenth century shines brilliantly on the era of British wealth and power, filling every part of great British life with pride and confidence. British literature, no longer stoic and medieval is revitalized and reclassified. As in the early Renaissance days Restoration authors think highly of Classical literature. Unlike their predecessors however, they are freer with classical style and prose. In one such restoration work, patterned after early Greek and Roman Cynics, author Jonathan Swift Calls the British Isles to action with an unprecedented solution to the problem of poverty; and exemplifies neoclassical literature in satirical style, sordid subject, and solid structure. Satire is one of the distinguishing marks that makes A Modest Proposal a classic example of Neoclassical Literature. In his use of Satire Jonathan Swift was undoubtedly influenced by Greek and Roman cynics who criticized the status quo. Like some of these cynics, instead of offering a reasonable and moral solution to a social problem, Swift captures the attention of the Irish people by a proposition of cannibalism. Describing his proposal Swift writes, A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends and when the family dines alone the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish and seasoned with a little pepper or salt will be very good boiled on the fourth day especially in winter. There were three main reasons why Texans wanted independence: Mexico outlawed slavery, high taxes, and the Mexicans wanted everyone to join the Catholic Church. One of the major players in Texas was Stephen Austin. He had 300 land grants which he gave to the Texans. After some time, Stephen Austin went all the way to Mexico to present petitions for a greater self governing government for Texas. • 23. Computer Security And Social Engineering Essay Computer security is a very important topic in today s world. One does not have to look far to read about data breaches, DDoS attacks, or other computer related crimes. When we think of cybercrime, we usually envision the Hollywood portrayal of technical hackers typing vigorously and wearing dark sunglasses. However, in reality, hacking tends to be much less glamorous. Actually, one critical element is often overlooked by the general public and movies alike; yet, every security professional knows, people are the weakest link, when it comes to security. In fact, as part of a demonstration at the 2010 Def Con hacking conference, large corporations were subject to social engineering techniques. The result was alarming: 96% of employees contacted by phone or email disclosed confidential information... (Ricart). In this paper, I will discuss the concept of social engineering: what it is, the types of attacks, the framework used in carrying out said attacks, and lastly, I will address countermeasures to mitigate the risk. Social engineering, as defined on social engineer.org, is any act that influences a person to take an action that may or may not be in their best interest (social engineer). Historically, the Grauballe Man is considered to be one of the most well preserved body of all time. It was discovered in the peat bogs in Jutland, Denmark. The body showed signs of violence indicating that the man was murdered rather than dying of natural causes. Heaney s poem indicates his preoccupation with the body because it evokes him of the atrocities that has happened during The Trouble. Heaney utilizes imagery to describe the bog body, utilizes metaphor to associate bog body and the victims of Northern Ireland, and utilizes allusion to make historical references. Heaney states that, hung in the scales with beauty and atrocity: with the Dying Gaul too strictly compassed. Dying Gaul is a Hellenistic sculpture that realistically depicts the pain and suffering experienced by a dying man, the root of the reference is that the pose of the sculpture reminiscences the death position of the bog man. Heaney uses the allusion of Dying Gaul in order to make the reader develop the idea of the unification of artifice and nature, which reveals the unique characteristics of human beings. Additionally, the Grauballe Man itself, is also an allusion. The allusion of the Grauballe Man exemplifies the brutal history that has happened in the North. The Grauballe Man personifies the sacrifices for religious excursions in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. Furthermore, the cured wound opens inward to a dark elderberry place exemplifies that the open wound will forever be exposed to the brutality and the violence that is happening in Northern Ireland. However, it is very ironic because the wounds of the bog body can never be cured because the body cannot develop or heal itself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The New York Times By Catherine Rampell The momentum of obsolescence became increasingly stronger as the decades passed, and in contemporary society, the dynamics of planned, technological, and psychological obsolescence is unmistakable. Today, products are made of faulty parts, and have become gradually more expensive to repair. Consumers are now forced to weigh up the price of repair alongside the price of a replacement, giving them little choice but to pick the easier alternative and replace the item. An example of this modern triad of obsolescence can be seen within the Apple Conspiracy , where it is alleged that Apple releases software updates for iPhones that instead of enhancing the performance of the phone as promised, actually degrade it by making the phone slow, and decrease the battery life. Coincidentally, this often occurs when the newest model of the iPhone is released, prompting frustrated users to either upgrade their phone, or deal with a degraded product. The conspiracy s major mainstream moment was an article in the New York Times by Catherine Rampell: At first, I thought it was my imagination. Around the time the iPhone 5S and 5C were released, in September, I noticed my sad old iPhone 4 was becoming a lot more sluggish. The battery was starting to run down much faster, too. But the same thing seemed to be happening to a lot of people who, like me, swear by their Apple products. • 42. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1875, Cobbe established the National Anti Vivisection Society (NAVS), which combatted medical establishments and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods and animal testing. A year later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England s first attempt to regulate experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England, and spark anti cruelty legislation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States Contribution to the Rise of Pinochet The date September 11th is not only a date of terror for the United States, but for the country Chile it also marks the anniversary of a new error of fear. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger attempted to hide from Congress and the media the breaking of human rights acts that Pinochet was responsible for. Only a month after he came into power reports from the CIA came in stating that Pinochet planned to destroy any and all resistance within two months and this will require more killing by the military. With this knowledge Kissinger, rather than accusing Pinochet of breaking human rights laws, attempted to outmaneuver the U.S. Congress to supply Pinochet with weapons that Congress had denied (Landau 1999, pages 16 17). This support allowed Pinochet to gain a complete dictatorship. As ruler he closed the Chilean Congress, banned political parties, censored the press and took over the universities. Through the United Sates lack of action and assistance toward him, Pinochet used his ability to violate human rights standards and rule over the population with terror for seventeen years (Kornbluh 2003, pages 19 22). Life has many troubles including death, pain, and suffering. It leaves little hope. There are ways in which people can live to have a good life. This method of how a person should live is viewed differently thoughout the world. James Hilton represents this combination of ideas and cultures in the novel, Lost Horizon (1933). • 47. Satire In The Firebombing Of Vonnegut Satire is an important part of postmodernism and it is one of the most prominent aspects of Vonnegut s novels, with his humor manifesting itself as a form of black humor. With his very dark sense of humor, Vonnegut confronts many of the negative aspects of the world and describes them in such a way that it disarms and desensitizes the reader to the shock of what they are reading. Slaughterhouse Five is an excellent example of this. When describing the shock and horror that Billy witnessed during the firebombing of Dresden, Vonnegut takes the time to describe Weary and Wild Bob and Rumfoord, characters who find glory in wholesale death and destruction (Cox 272). In writing his response to the horrors of war, Vonnegut takes the approach that it is better to make the reader laugh at something and have them slowly realize the horror of what they have read, as opposed to immediately shocking the reader by presenting gory details of his experiences in Dresden. Even the name of his main character is subtle black humor. Billy Pilgrim, whose name is a reference to John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress and connotes that Vonnegut s pilgrim is an average joe burdened with a life of agony and terror (F1). His name is also in reference to Vonnegut s feeling that the Second World War was a war fought by mere children, hence the book s subtitle The Children s Crusade. The idea of young men who were no more than children in essence when they were sent off to fight and die in a foreign land is a distressing and horrible idea for many people to think about. Yet through his humor Vonnegut forces the reader to come to terms with this, but in a way that eases a reader into the darkness of the novel instead of running into it head on. In Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut does not limit his black humor to the topic of war, but also opens up criticisms of society as he sees it. Through the Tralfamadorian aliens that kidnap Billy and take him captive on their planet and the science fiction of Kilgore Trout, Vonnegut uses his humor in regards to a variety of topics not related to war. Once such example of Trout s novels that are throughout the story is The Gospel from Outer Space in which a visitor from outer space studied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Goal Of Archaeological Research Lindsey Grissom Anth 265 2/3/2016 Taylor Writing Assignment 1 For as long as humans have been around we have had cultural traditions specific to our species. The goal of archaeological research is to obtain a broad understanding of human culture. Archaeologists are interested in studying culture in the past and in the present through material remains. Remains include anything that was created or modified for use by humans. By studying culture in this way we gain insight into how different communities lived in different areas of the world. We see how our ancestors lived and how culture has changed over time as our ancestors adapted to their environments. Archaeology covers all time periods and geographic areas that humans live or have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parenting shapes how children are raised. We need an archaeology of parenting and also an archaeology of childhood because we have to be able to look at the two groups separately. However, we also need to realize that these children grow up to be adults and everything they do as children and how they are raised effects how adults live in the future. Despite childhood development being such a big influence on who we are as adults, there has been surprisingly little attention devoted to understanding how Neanderthal childhood was distinctive. Spikins argues that it is now crucial to forward our understanding of children in prehistory . Traditionally, people view Neanderthal children as having lived a dangerous and harsh life. However, a lack of recent review of this culture could mean we are neglecting aspects of Neanderthal life that we overlooked in the past. Most research up until now has focused on biological aspects such as growth and development by using skeletal analysis. While this is important we have greatly neglected the social and cultural aspects of these people s lives. Like early modern humans, Neanderthal children were born in a rather altricial state. This would make them vulnerable and mean there had to be some type of hands on care by an older person in the first few years of development. This could have been by the infant s biological parents or through alloparenting however without studying the social aspects of life we wouldn t know which was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
