Opportunities For Women In New York
New York is the city where opportunities, dreams, education, and hard work thrives. Being in the heart
of New York, Barnard offers opportunities unique to the city and provides resources which are
essential for the success of women. Being a woman, there are already limitations and expectations
placed on me by society. These limitations are escalated when taken into account my pursuit into
surgery and medical research, which is currently predominantly males. So being placed in an
university that has a student body that consists of mostly females, who share the same aspirations and
ambitions as I, would constantly motivate and allow me to feel comfortable to express my perspective
and voice, which most women don t have the courage to do because

Essay about American Financial Crisis
The US Financial System: A Crumbling Empire The financial system has been crucial to the role of
free enterprise. Financial markets have come to supply non financial corporations with mechanisms
for managing their risks and for comparing and evaluating diverse investment opportunities in a
highly complex global economy (Cindin, 2008). However, despite the lifetimes it took to build our
financial institutions, bad luck and careless risk management have jeopardized careers and mortgaged
these institutions futures (Wallace, 2008). The nation is currently attempting to deal with the biggest
financial crisis since the Great Depression. It is now imperative that a way be found which will re
regulate finance without undermining finance s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the result of commercial and investment banks lending vast sums for housing purchases and
consumer loans to borrowers who are ill equipped to repay. As consumers begin to default on their
loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry out business
procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls on the economy. The
U.S. economy is now facing four serious problems. The first problem is that consumers are cutting
back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. Presently, consumers and banks are trying to
reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their assets or income, a process known as de
leveraging (Francis, 2008). This will cause a recession since consumers make up seventy percent of all
spending. The inventory of unsold homes is now large, so the demand for housing and construction
will be low for several years. Other businesses will also begin to reduce the production of goods in
order to keep pace with the decrease in demand. The International Monetary fund is forecasting the
United States gross domestic product to grow by just .5% in 2008 and .6% in 2009. The problem of
consumer spending is actually the least of the economy s worries. The second dilemma that the
economy faces is the increase in the number of defaults on mortgage payments and consumer loans.
Large quantities of consumers were purchasing homes in belief that the property

Technopoly Neil Postman Summary
Author Neil Postman s main argument in his book Technopoly: A Surrender of Culture to Technology
is not between humanists and scientists but between technology and people. In today s society
technology has become accepted as a friend, a helper, something needed. Postman argues that the
uncontrolled growth of technology destroys the vital sources of our humanity. It creates a culture
without a moral foundation. It undermines certain mental processes and social relations that make
human life worth living Postman XII). Technology according to Postman, creates a culture with no
moral foundation, a culture that undermines certain mental processes and social relations that make
human life interactive. Technology is a friend but, it can also be ... Show more content on

This makes it difficult to argue with him because what are you really arguing? Postman believes that
by technology giving us instant information it is forcing out culture to suffer from information glut,
taking the meaning and control out of information; information has become a form of garbage, not
only incapable of answering the most fundamental human questions but barely useful in providing
coherent direction to the solution of even mundane problems (Postman 69). Postman explains how
society got to this point in his stages of information revolution, starting with the printing press,
expansion of schools, however, he does so in a very black and white manner. There were several
reasons for the rapid growth of the common school, but none was more obvious than that it was a
necessary response to the anxieties and confusion aroused by information on the loose (Postman 62).
As seen here he does not really back up his points. In his second stage of information

The Cult of Contemporary Celebrity Essay
Celebrity: (noun) 1. A well known person. 2. Fame, being famous.
No doubt every simian tribe of hunter gatherers had their local celebrities: the woman who gave birth
to quintuplets, the boy who swallowed a porcupine and survived, the man who wrestled with a
tyrannosaurus and... well, he probably would have died, but celebrity status would have been applied
posthumously.
If, however, the man wrestling with a Tyrannosaurus was a modern Hollywood celebrity, not only
would he have lived, he would have pocketed something like $20 million for his efforts, and earned
the adulation of several billion people.
The global celebration of modern celebrity is partly a product of our pre historic need for heroes. In a

Information on celebrities is not only very popular with the general public, it also popular with
journalists. Interviewing a movie star requires almost no effort. The celebrity s publicist will provide
you with every significant and insignificant detail of the celebrity s life. All you have to do is read this
information, interview the subject, cut and paste what the celebrity says so the interview has a
coherent structure, and `bang, there is your thousand or two thousand word article.
Because of this modern media frenzy there are as many divisions of Hollywood celebrity as there are
bird species in the Amazon. As the dim witted, obtuse and lethargic stars of Big Brother proved last
summer you don t need any skills to become a celebrity these days, you just need to be in the media.
In Hollywood there are A list commercial celebrities like Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts.
There are your B list celebrities like Ben Affleck, Kevin Kline and Uma Thurman (they might not
have to audition for parts, but nor can they expect a fee any higher than a couple of million dollars.)
There are struggling in the grave celebrities like Mickey Rourke, reluctant celebrities like Kate

2. Will the current horizontal cabling suffice for the new network? If it will not, what type of cable
should be used for the horizontal cabling? Provide detailed specifications for this cable.
In my opinion Cat 6 cable should be used instead the Category 5 CM rated UTP cable as the
horizontal cables that are connected to the patch panel mounted in a relay rack in each of building
closets. Cat6 is the most advanced cable in its category. . Cat 6 cable supports up to 10 Gigabit

This layer is also called the Workgroup layer.
6. Does this network need a core layer? What devices would operate at the core layer?
The core layer is considered the backbone of the network and includes the high end switches and high
speed cables such as fiber cables. This layer of the network does not route traffic at the LAN. In
addition, no packet manipulation is done by devices in this layer. Rather, this layer is concerned with
speed and ensures reliable delivery of packets.
7. Is redundancy required at any layer of this network? If it is, where and how would this redundancy
be added to the network? What device or devices would be used to make this network redundant?
A goal of redundant topologies is to eliminate network down time caused by a single point of failure.
All networks need redundancy for enhanced reliability. Network reliability is achieved through
reliable equipment and network designs that are tolerant to failures and faults. Networks should be
designed to reconverge rapidly so that the fault is bypassed.
In a redundant mesh topology network devices are connected with many redundant interconnections
between network nodes. In a true mesh topology every node has a connection to every other node in
the network. A mesh network with redundant connections is an example of a redundant topology. The
level of redundancy can be measured by network connectivity.
On a redundantly connected network if a

My Experience With A Child
You have competition every day because you set such high standards for yourself that you have to go
out every day and live up to that (Michael Jordan). This quote perfectly describes my mentality as a
child and currently as a young adult. As a child, I was curious and determined as my family recalls.
My mother never lets me forget the number of times she had to free my fingers from the holes of
shopping carts because I was curious if they would fit. As I got older and a bit more independent, I
remember going into my kitchen cabinets and grabbing several different ingredients, namely flour, oil,
and water and creating different mixtures of different textures and consistencies. I was fascinated in
my creations. Along with this curiosity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I was offered an internship through the Massachusetts Life Science Center and was placed at Pressure
Biosciences Inc. (PBI) in Medford, Massachusetts. I was overjoyed to work in the Boston area
because of the blossoming biomedical engineering research centers. During my time at PBI, I worked
to improve both the yield and quality of the protein extracted from Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded
(FFPE) tissue, using high pressure systems engineered by PBI. Over the course of my two month
internship, I optimized the deparaffinization method of the FFPE tissues along with the amount and
type of pressure (steady or oscillating) that was applied to the samples. I improved basic lab
techniques, and acquired new skills such as various sonication and homogenization methods and
running RC DC (reducing agent and detergent compatible) protein assays. I also gained experience
working independently on research projects. This internship introduced me to the life of an
independent research scientist and motivated me to pursue a career in research. The most impactful
aspect of this internship, however, was the fact that it forced me to abandon my life science based
comfort zone, and start to think and research as an engineer. I became familiar with the high pressure
equipment and its software, and I was absolutely fascinated by the

External Factors Of Academic Resilience
ACADEMIC RESILIENCE
Academic Resilience is the capacity to achieve good academic achievements despite the adversity
experienced. There could be several circumstances that create a situation where an individual can
become a school dropout, low achiever and a persistently de motivated student. Academic resilience is
the extra ordinary capacity that helps the student to rise above all these adverse conditions and
perform academically well and to be in motivated state, for academic achievement (Alva, 1991, p. 19).
In school going children, academic achievement is an important indicator of academic resilience.
(Masten Coastworth, 1998).
Academic resilience is a strong developmental construct which is contributed by internal and external
factors (Luthar, Cicchetti, Becker, 2000). The external factors of meaningful activities and caring ...

essential feature that came out. These adolescents receive warm emotional support from their peers to
establish academic achievements (Cauce, 1986; Steinberg, 1996). The socio economic background of
the friends have no influence on the academic achievement (Borman Overman, 2004). In the internal
factors, the student s positive perception of the academic competence is an important protective factor
(Gizir Aydin, 2009). This can be positively associated with the concept of positive emotions in the

The key to experience is point of view. It is the subjective character of point of view that confounds
understanding of the objective experience. Lets say there is a group of individuals observing a

nature of the different points of view within the group that results in altered experiences and
perceptions of the painting. While one individual sees a violent message portrayed through the brush

This rather abstract notion of phenomenal consciousness is simplified to the term P consciousness . P
consciousness is phenomenal experience. Everything that P consciousness can be is, in turn,
everything that experience can be. It is the matter of when we utilize our senses (see, hear, smell, etc.)
to gain information from the environment, as well as when an individual experiences internal
reflection through sensations, thoughts, or emotions. All of these actions are continuously occurring
with or without the intention of doing so. P consciousness is always representational of the
information derived from the event being experienced. Contrarily, Access Consciousness is introduced
as the mode of consciousness in which representation, unlike P consciousness, is poised for control of
speech, reasoning, and action (pg. 208 Block) . It is this mode of consciousness whose content can be
broadcasted to communicate one s inner events, unlike the phenomenal qualities of P consciousness.
The distinguishing factor between these two modes of consciousness is the element of qualia. P
consciousness is phenomenal while A consciousness is representational; however, given that P
consciousness can also be representational, P consciousness can overlap in the A consciousness realm
during reasoning or the execution of actions. A consciousness is a

Orientalism In Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre (1847) has been considered one of the classic English texts which celebrates the arrival to
selfhood of Jane from the state of an uncared for orphan to a governess of a rich household and
eventually as an heiress of Ferndean. English literature (as all other literatures of the world) has
certain canonical texts, which are widely acclaimed and accepted as classics. In the classics, we expect
to find the finest embodiment of a culture. However, in the post colonial era literature is often read in

It recalls Edward Said s reconstruction of reality by the Occident. Edward Said, since the publication
of his famous work, Orientalism (pub.1978) has given us new tools to deal with European s

a fabricated construct of the West and it comes through a series of negative images, which has come to
stay as reality for the Orient. Following Said s argument post colonial critics have viciously raised
their voices against the degrading portrayal of Bertha. John McLeod has an interesting thesis. He
states: The revelation of Bertha promises to solve the mystery by allowing Jane to look upon that

Effects Of Media Bias On Society
Media Bias and its effects on society Media includes news outlets, print news, and social networks
such as Facebook. Media can be a useful tool for society, allowing everyone to keep in touch with
what is happening around them and working almost as an educator for everyday people. This being
said media is also misused; the media is inaccurate, biased and potentially dangerous. To counter the
problem regulations should be in place along with balanced and fair reporting. Media can be misused.

Major Gifts Essay
Securing major gifts is important to almost every organization (Hodge, n.d., p.1). These gifts assist
organizations in ensuring the success of both annual and capital campaigns (Hodge, n.d., p.1). They
not only account for most of the donation to a campaign, but they can also serve as a lead gift, which
gets other people interested in donating to the cause. Without major gifts, organizations would be
doomed, therefore organizations need to ensure that they have the staff, resources, and training in

To enhance my confidence even further, having a relationship with the potential benefactor would be

the potential benefactor very well. After gaining an adequate level of confidence and comfort to be
able to successfully solicit the major gift I would arrange a meeting with the potential benefactor.
In setting up the meeting, I would be sure to express that the purpose of the meeting is for us to, invite

Applied Assumption of Risk
MEMORANDUM

RE: Adair v. Oldfield, Implied Assumption of Risk
DATE: January 5, 2014
ISSUES
1) Whether the risks that Adair faced were inherent in the activity of rock climbing?
2) Which statements by Williams would be admissible at trial?
BRIEF ANSWERS
1) Yes. Defendant owes no duty to protect Adair from the harm he alleges because an inherent risk of
rock climbing includes the negligence of co participants as well as the danger of falling.
2) At trial, Williams will be able to offer his opinion as to the cause of the accident, but will be barred
from any testimony regarding any risks inherent to the sport of rock climbing.

court in Handleman forecloses this line of inquiry into foreseeability by reasoning that assumption of
risk does not require clairvoyance to forsee the exact accident and injury that in fact occurs. Id.
Consequently, the court held that all that is required to prove assumption of risk is that the injury be

Heart Rate Variability ( Hrv )
Heart rate variability (HRV) is quickly becoming a buzz word in fitness, but in reality this is a very old
technology. Dating back to at least 1948 (15) HRV has been a commonly used method in research and
is an accepted diagnostic tool in several diseases/conditions, such as post traumatic stress disorder and
type 2 diabetes (9, 23).
HRV was, until recently, a tool that was confined to clinical and research settings, largely due to the
prohibitively high cost of equipment. Recent advances in technology, particularly among heart rate
monitors and smartphone based apps, have now made this technology available to fitness
professionals and health/fitness consumers.
HRV is derived from mathematical properties of cardiac inter beat intervals or what is referred to as a

Ancient Greek Sculpture During The Archaic Period
Greek Sculptures
The Greeks are known to have taken the art of sculpture making to a whole new level of precision,
intricacy and proportion, especially in the human anatomy field. They gained their first inspiration
from commemorative art of Ancient Egypt, some Middle Eastern Countries, and Persia.
They tended to use bronze and clay in the early ages, but after the 6th century BCE, marble was used
as their main material for sculptures, as it has high workability and ability to be refined and altered.
Archaic Period
During this period, major alterations took place in ancient Greek. The culture itself was affected, and
Greek art took a different turn instead of abstract and geometrical shapes, more realistic art was
starting to take place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ever since, Classical Greece ascended during the Golden Age, bringing with it a more advanced form
of Art.
The Golden Age
The Golden Aged rose, and with it came a more refined approach to the art of Sculpting, specifically
in the deception of the human body.
The subject matter of these sculptures was mainly the portrayal of religion, mythological creatures,
and legends or important people in society. This was because the Greeks relayed more on their art to
document their present.
The sculptures featured more flexibility unlike the stiffly positioned Archaic ones , accurate human
proportions, and paid more attention to small details in the body such as muscles, veins, skin flaws,
etc. This helped create much more smooth and realistic interpretations.
Bronze sculptures took a rise for a while, as bronze had much more flexibility than marble, and
allowed the sculptor to create more body positions. Unfortunately, bronze was majorily used at that
time for weapon creation and was quickly cancelled

Electoral Reform Of Canada Through A Mixed Electoral...
The need for Electoral Reform in Canada Through a Mixed Electoral System
Altering the electoral system would undoubtedly benefit Canada in numerous ways through the use of
a mixed electoral system using proportional representation and alternative voting. Over the course of
Canada s history, debate over electoral reform has appeared occasionally, with varying levels of
intensity (Courtney 2005:154). Regardless, the amount of times that the topic has been discussed,
demonstrates the need for its consideration. The word change often promotes a negative connotation,
suggesting decreases in quality of government. However, it is important for one to focus on not
changing the system, but rather improving it. This can be done through different voting methods such
as proportional representation or alternative voting. Of course, there are disadvantages that could arise
from electoral reform, especially in the case of either suggested systems. However, the vast
advantages ultimately outweigh all potential consequences, justifying this action. Conclusively, it is
advantageous to undergo electoral reform through a mixed election system of proportional
representation and alternative voting, despite arguments opposed to both matters.
To begin, electoral reform is necessary for one major reason. This reason being that the current system
Canada operates under is simply not effective. Presently, Canada uses the single member plurality
system, but this form of voting displays several

How Is Mr Keating Change In Dead Poets Society
In the film, Dead Poets Society (1989), John Keating becomes an English teacher at Welton Academy,
a school known for its four pillars: tradition, honor, discipline, and excellence. His way of teaching is
completely different from the school standards as he challenges the traditional curriculum the school
uses by teaching in a style of free thinking. Mr. Keating is a good teacher, as his role at Welton
Academy allows him to interact with his students. His lessons are based off on poems relating to the
subject of the individual, and with these poems his purpose of teaching these lessons was to bring

Keating teaches to his students have often based around on philosophies of romanticism,
transcendentalism, and self reliance. He often teaches these poems so that his students will be able to
find their inner individual and find peace in nature and harmony. For example, Keating refers to the
poem, Walden (1854) written by Henry David Thoreau, and quotes, I went to the woods because I
wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it
had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived (Thoreau). The purpose of Mr.
Keating introducing this poem to his students was to compare how Thoreau went to the woods to get
away from the aspects of modern life to how they could find ways to apply free thinking instead of
simply searching for broad answers. By doing this, Mr. Keating is helping his students find ways to
express themselves and pave the road to their future. Mr. Keating also makes a reference to Robert

not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it

Sloss Furnace is haunted by one of the most evil, murderous ghosts of all time. The Birmingham
Police have over 100 recorded reports of unexplainable activity that has been experienced by people
while at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama over the years. And
those are just the ones that have been reported. Between the years of 1882 to 1971 Sloss Furnace, and
its employees, were tasked with turning coal and ore into steel. That steel went on to shape the
industrial revolution, from New York skyscrapers, to bridges in the south, Sloss Furnace had a hand in
it all. Sloss was known as an inhumanly terrible place to work, and the worst of the worst was the
Graveyard Shift foreman, James Slag Wormwood. During the stifling summer months, temperatures

Synaptic Long-Term Memory
To learn from stressful events, memories of these events must be consolidated into long term memory
in case a similar situation occurs in the future. In the normal process of consolidating a memory, three
different processes take place: synaptic long term potentiation or LTP, systems consolidation, and
reconsolidation (Depperman et al., 2014). LTP is a mechanism of neuroplasticity that increases the
strength of certain synaptic connections through the stimulation of neurons involved in the connection.
After an event happens, the new memory is transmitted to the hippocampus. Systems consolidation is
the slow process by which memories are transferred from the hippocampus to the cortex such that
memories are no longer hippocampus dependent. Reconsolidation ... Show more content on

LTP is integral to the consolidation of fear memories and a fear network in people with PTSD. After a
traumatic event, the details of the event and the emotions involved are consolidated into memory. The
experience of stressful situations that occur after the traumatic event can trigger the synchronized
firing of neuronal pathways related to the current experience as well as to the initial traumatic event.
Through LTP, trauma related stimuli become associated with the stress and emotions experienced
during the trauma. Synchronized firing in response to situations strengthens the fear network and also
causes previously neutral stimuli to become incorporated into the fear network surrounding the
traumatic event (Kolassa Elbert, 2007). In this way, single elements remembered from a traumatic
event or even neutral stimuli can cause the entire fear network to become activated, thus activating the
memory of the traumatic event. Reinforcement of the fear response by LTP is likely what leads to
intrusive re experience of traumatic memories, especially in nightmares. Whenever the stress response
becomes activated, the entire experience of the trauma becomes activated as well. Trauma nightmares
usually occur during light sleep and disrupted REM sleep (Raskind et al., 2007). One study showed

something from Hester that she may never get back. Seven years after she is forced to withstand
public humiliation for many hours, a sad transformation overcomes Hester. Hester s emotional
transformation is so drastic that it makes her less of a woman. The seclusion that Hester has been
living in for the past seven years has resulted in her losing her ability to love, the emotion that makes
you the most woman. It was due in part to all these causes, but still more to something else, that there
seemed to be no longer any thing in Hester s face for Love to dwell upon; nothing in Hester s form,
though majestic and statue like, that Passion would ever dream of clasping in its embrace; nothing in
Hester s bosom, to make it ever again the pillow of Affection (Hawthorne, 1994, pp. 112). However, it

The Mediterranean Diet Vs. Mediterranean Diets

comparison of an american diet to mediterranean diet, which diet would be recommended, and also,
comparing and contrasting health benefits/consequences. This essay is written to bring awareness of
both american and mediterranean diets. The american diet being high in carbohydrates, saturated and
transfats is not the recommended diet when compared to the wholesome fresh produce and high in
protien that the mediterranean diet has to offer. We live in an era where information is at our fingertips
and social media has revealed that other countries diets differ from the diets we have here in the US. I
recently saw a video on facebook comparing US school lunches to other countries school lunches. The
difference on what was provided to US school children was shocking. The most interesting thing was
that the other country schools provided lunches that contained fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains and
even fish meanwhile the food being served in US schools is high in refined carbohydrates, sugars and
red meats. This realization made me wonder how different our diets in america is compared to other
diets worldwide. I have personally changed my diet to a mediterranean diet. In doing so I have noticed
major differences in food options, benefits and recommendations for both american and mediterranean
diets. Major Differences American Diet In an american diet there is an abundance of food

How Does Alcohol Dehydrogenase
Question 1:
1. Enzymes: Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and Aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH)
2. Alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase helps separate the alcohol molecule, making it
more likely to remove it from the body.
ADH first metabolizes the alcohol to acetaldehyde, an extremely toxic matter, known as carcinogen.
Then, acetaldehyde is metabolized to a different by product called acetate that is broken down into
water and carbon dioxide.

Masada Research Paper
Introduction The fortress of Masada plays a very large part of Jewish history. Masada comes from the
Hebrew word mazuda . The translation for the word mazuda means stronghold or fortress. The
historical events that took place at the Masada help us understand the history, life and the deaths at the

History of Masada The Masada was built by King Herod prior to the Zealots capturing it. King Herod
built this fortress which included palaces, swimming pools and bathhouses. The Masada is located on
a very steep and isolated mountaintop. Masada overlooked the Dead Sea. Galileo and Jerusalem can

Jews were fighting. After the Romans destroyed the Jewish temples and the city of Jerusalem, a group
of Jewish people called the Zealots, captured and took over the Masada. The Zealots were the first
Jewish people to revolt against Roman rule. This is the first revolt of its kind. Based on prophecies
from the bible, if the Jewish people didn t follow Gods word, bad things would happen. In Luke 19:

The Struggle Between Social Class In The Creature And...
The creature and Victor Frankenstein. Similar to how Marxist theory observes the remarkable struggle
between social classes, the interactions between said characters, and their struggles, are put on display
by Shelly. The exchanges between different characters (or social classes) can be explained by Marx s
Communist Manifesto which states that two classes, one being the owners of production named the
bourgeoisie and the workers or the proletariat (Montag 386). In this situation Victor can be compared
to the bourgeoisie while the creation can be represented by the proletariat. In Frankenstein, a similar
dynamic arises within the relationship between Victor and his creation as a definitive struggle rises
between the two characters. After the successful birth of the monster Victor enjoys the reaps of his
labor and establishes his power effectively exerting control over the lower class or, in this case, his
creation. Throughout this evolution, Shelly depicts the relationship between the monster and

enslaved by the horror of his creation, similar Marxist theory is displayed through what is defined as
the products of labor. As a result of this, the monster becomes powerful and rebels against Victor, or

a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs
serious acts of magic. Gandalf, on the other hand, is a warrior mage, an immortal being sent to protect
the people of Middle Earth. He displays a powerful use of magic as well, and unlike Merlin, rallies the
people of Middle Earth to his cause and gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Uther, whom Merlin serves, falls in love with Igraine, the wife of a neighboring duke, but the
duke refuses to allow Uther to have her, and Igraine is too loyal a woman to willingly commit
adultery. So, Merlin devises a plan, telling Uther, this night ye shall lie with Igraine . . . and ye shall be
like the duke her husband, Ulfias will be like Sir Brastias . . . and I will be like Sir Jordanus (Le
Morte, 5). Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people,
enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve
shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a
child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I
shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte,
23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end
of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He
demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you
the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le
Morte, 29). Through his powers of foresight, Merlin can pinpoint what will bring about the end of
Camelot. Gandalf, although immortal and powerful, rarely shows these powers of foresight. The
future in Lord of the Rings is something that cannot be known, only fought

consider them as a challenge. Try and be that lady who oozes confidence and see how he adores you.
4.Have A Life And Be Happy In It
A lady who has a happy life of her own and doesn t entirely depend upon someone to fulfill it is

make him run and avoid you like a plague.
5.Avoid Jealousy
Your guy may have other girl friends in his life but he chose you to be his girl. Show respect by
making him believe he made the right choice. Don t get jealous or act out just because he talks or

ULTRASOUND PHYSICS

a) Calculate the Acoustic impedance of subcutaneous tissue, muscle and bone. Assume subcutaneous
tissue has a density of 1060kg/m3 (Hedrick 2003), muscle has a density of 1104kg/m3 (Madjor 2008)
and bone has a density of 5065kg/m3 (Hedrick 2003). Give your answer in Mrayls. Please use speed
of sound as 1540m/s for tissue, muscle and bone
In ultrasound, Acoustic impedance (Z) is the quantity of measurement of resistance to sound when
passing through a medium (Hedrick,Hykes Starchman 2005, p.10).
According to Gill (2012,p. 11) the equation for Acoustic impedance is Z=ρc, where (Z=Acoustic
impedance, ρ =density of medium and c =velocity of beam). From this equation is understood that

In addition, as a result of high attenuation in bones, absorption of sound occurs resulting in vibration
and friction and hence, sound energy loss. For these reasons, one should scan a liver through the
intercostal spaces where little or no reflection occurs or under the ribs but not through the ribs.
2. Including a definition of pre and post processing, explain whether you would use read zoom or
write zoom to image a gallbladder.
Preprocessing refers to manipulation of scan information or data prior to storage in memory following
scan conversion while post processing refers to manipulation of scan data after storage in the scan
converter. Write zoom is associated with preprocessing while read zoom is associated with post
processing (Schirber, 2013, pg. 110). In write zoom, the image is rewritten with more pixels than the
initial image and thus the image is given more definition magnification. For read zoom, the image is
magnified this is like enlarging a photo hence the image will only be bigger. Therefore, one should use
write zoom to image a gall bladder since it gives more details and an image of high quality.
3. The most common type of transducer used for deep organ imaging such as the liver is a 6Mhz
convex array. The most type of transducer for imaging a thyroid is a 15 Mhz linear array. Explain,
with reference to both transducer shape (linear and convex) and frequency why this is so.
A 6 Mhz convex array transducer has a wide footprint

Story and Truth in Edwin Blashfield s The Evolution of...
In 1894, construction neared completion on The Thomas Jefferson Building, the oldest of the three
buildings which comprise the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.. With the exterior well in hand,
the architects turned their attention to the interior, commissioning extensive murals by well known
artists. The commissioners of these murals deliberately set out to personify the ideals of the
[American] people through the medium of government sponsored art, and provide a relatively young
nation with a story about themselves a visual literature which would connect them to the distant past.1
Among the most famous of these murals is Edwin Blashfield s The Evolution of Civilization which

In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the
ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his
memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture,
and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient
mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring
down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Adopted
around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of pictographs like many early
forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing systems.11 The sophisticated
navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this new version of cuneiform would
quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet would soon be adopted by the Greeks,
who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet their own needs; likewise the Romans,
eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet for their own use. It could be said that the
highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the basis for the literature of the Classical world.
The Phoenician cuneiform alphabet was also adopted by Jewish culture, providing a medium for
Hebrew narrative and progressive sense of history, another innovation

Microbiota Transplant Essay
Fecal Transplantation Therapy (Presentation Outline by Samantha McClenahan)
Slide 1: What is FMT and why is it preformed?
Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a procedure in which fecal matter, or stool, is collected from a
tested donor, mixed with a saline or other solution, strained, and placed in a patient, by colonoscopy,
endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or enema.
The purpose of fecal transplant is to replace good bacteria that has been killed or suppressed, usually
by the use of antibiotics, causing bad bacteria, specifically Clostridium difficile, or C. diff., to over
populate the colon.
C. difficile colitis may be associated with diarrhea, abdominal cramping and sometimes fever and
dehydration from diarrhea may lead to death.

Initial infection treated with an antibiotic that specifically targets the C. difficile organism. Antibiotics
used for the treatment of this infection include metronidazole, vancomycin and fidaxomycin.
Current treatment for FMT is the use of antibiotics; however, the relapse rate it high with over half a
million cases in the use and 15,000 related deaths occurring annually.
In 30 percent of treated individuals, the infection returns within a few days or weeks after finishing the
antibiotic course.
In 2013, the New England Journal of Medicine showed that fecal transplantation is more effective
than oral vancomycin in preventing further recurrences in individuals who have already had recurrent
C. difficile colitis.
As of 2013, fecal transplantation is currently not routinely performed for indications other than
recurrent C. difficile colitis. More research studies are still needed to determine if fecal transplantation
should be performed for other clinical indications. Fecal transplantation for other clinical indications
should be considered experimental, and performed only as part of a research study where your safety

identity within the Garena community. With this system, you can see who s online and the players
who have the same ability as you.
Garena: What You Need to Know
Garena+ does sometimes focus more on some games than others. For example, Warcraft 3 even has an
online video channel, and you have a high level championship mode, but there are other games that do
not have all these nice features. The biggest benefit of using Garena+ is how you can communicate
with other gamers because the system has its own instant messaging system, and there is also an
internal mail system. You can also connect on the Garena forums to learn and share knowledge about
your favorite games. The forum has a points system to pinpoint the users who are heavy contributors
on the forum. While Garena+ may not be compatible with every major title that you find, ... Show

The Existence Of God. Throughout The Years As Human Beings
The Existence of God Throughout the years as human beings keep learning about the world we are
finding out that we are living in a world where evil surrounds us. This belief conflicts with the beliefs
of theism, one who believes in a God or Gods, especially a personal God who s in control of the
world. If there was an all powerful, all knowing, and all good God, then he should have the knowledge
that there s evil in the world, he should have the benevolence to want to stop the evil, and he should
have the ability to make the evil vanish. We can know that the problem of evil exists in the world by
having to experience it only a few times and the suffering caused by this evil is something no human
would want happening to them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An uncontrollable and unnecessary evil is the example of all powerful, all knowing, and all evil being
known as Satan. Some try to justify evil by blaming it on Satan. God doesn t create evil; Satan does
(taken from Doing Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn). This argument helps solidify the theistic beliefs that
there s an all powerful, all knowing, and all good God who is aware of how much evils is brought in
the world by humans and is able to control it and keep it in equilibrium with the good. If we were
controlled by a force beyond our control like God, then we would be perfectly good beings who would
always choose the good decision over the evil one. Some of the evil in this world is said to be caused
by humans and the choices we choose. This is implemented that we live in a world where our actions
aren t constrained by any limiting factor, meaning we have the freewill to choose to act on our own
moral values and choose between evil or good. These people believe that, the price we pay for having
free will is the existence of evil (taken from Doing Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn). Although some argue
that, a being who has free will and yet always choose the good does not seem to be logically
impossible (taken from Doing Philosophy, Lewis Vaughn) we get a sense that we aren t born that way
since we all were raised with different

John Hauke Research Paper
Hauke was thrilled to put his theoretical knowledge of numeracy skills into practical applications.
While learning measurement, children worked on an activity where they traced their own foot and
then use its cutout to measure the length of various objects, materials, and shelves or furniture in our
classroom. This was Hauke s favorite activity. Hauke practiced his addition and subtraction facts skills
while working on trading smaller bills for larger ones, and adding the total values of bills/coins using
cash register. Making thermometer and measuring the temperature using various thermometers
captivated his interest. Hauke loved making his own geo board by sanding the wooden block, marking
squares of equal measurement, carefully putting nails and then making various geometric shapes using
elastic bands.
William enjoyed working on activities where they actually created their own instruments such as
thermometer, geo board, and a small fluffy pillow. One of his favorite activities was to learn about ...

The, Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus
Ave, Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus,
I will make this report concise as to not waste your time since I know you are a busy man and have an
empire to run. I have separated the report of the outline for your amphitheatre into five parts. The five
parts consist of the following: 1) Location 2) Size 3) Accessibility 4) Arena structure and features 5)
Funding
I. I propose that we construct the amphitheatre to the right of Saepta Julia in the Campus Martius. The
amphitheatre will be built in between the Isis Campensis and the Via Flaminia. Such a location has
been chosen after much consideration because of the extensive amount of open space available to
build the amphitheatre as well as its close proximity to the heart of Rome. Moreover, the location is
beneficial in the sense that it would be constructed nearby the Saepta Julia. Since the creation of the
Saepta Julia was planned by your adopted father, Julius Caesar, and dedicated to his daughter to
honour you after it was finished, if your amphitheatre were to be built close to it, the area surrounding
both structures will become like a district, the Julio Claudian district.
II. To ensure that your amphitheatre is exemplary of Rome s excellence and worthy of the Julio
Claudian dynasty, I propose that the total area of the amphitheatre and accompanying structures cover
approximately 17,579 square metres. Evidently, a building of such size would not be possible if there
was not enough room to build it on; however,

Being in the heart of New York, Barnard offers opportunities unique to the city and provides resources which are essential for the success of women. Being a woman, there are already limitations and expectations placed on me by society. These limitations are escalated when taken into account my pursuit into surgery and medical research, which is currently predominantly males. So being placed in an university that has a student body that consists of mostly females, who share the same aspirations and ambitions as I, would constantly motivate and allow me to feel comfortable to express my perspective and voice, which most women don t have the courage to do because ... • 3. Essay about American Financial Crisis The US Financial System: A Crumbling Empire The financial system has been crucial to the role of free enterprise. Financial markets have come to supply non financial corporations with mechanisms for managing their risks and for comparing and evaluating diverse investment opportunities in a highly complex global economy (Cindin, 2008). However, despite the lifetimes it took to build our financial institutions, bad luck and careless risk management have jeopardized careers and mortgaged these institutions futures (Wallace, 2008). The nation is currently attempting to deal with the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. It is now imperative that a way be found which will re regulate finance without undermining finance s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the result of commercial and investment banks lending vast sums for housing purchases and consumer loans to borrowers who are ill equipped to repay. As consumers begin to default on their loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry out business procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls on the economy. The U.S. economy is now facing four serious problems. The first problem is that consumers are cutting back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. Presently, consumers and banks are trying to reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their assets or income, a process known as de leveraging (Francis, 2008). This will cause a recession since consumers make up seventy percent of all spending. The inventory of unsold homes is now large, so the demand for housing and construction will be low for several years. Other businesses will also begin to reduce the production of goods in order to keep pace with the decrease in demand. The International Monetary fund is forecasting the United States gross domestic product to grow by just .5% in 2008 and .6% in 2009. The problem of consumer spending is actually the least of the economy s worries. The second dilemma that the economy faces is the increase in the number of defaults on mortgage payments and consumer loans. Large quantities of consumers were purchasing homes in belief that the property ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Technopoly Neil Postman Summary Author Neil Postman s main argument in his book Technopoly: A Surrender of Culture to Technology is not between humanists and scientists but between technology and people. In today s society technology has become accepted as a friend, a helper, something needed. Postman argues that the uncontrolled growth of technology destroys the vital sources of our humanity. It creates a culture without a moral foundation. It undermines certain mental processes and social relations that make human life worth living Postman XII). Technology according to Postman, creates a culture with no moral foundation, a culture that undermines certain mental processes and social relations that make human life interactive. Postman believes that by technology giving us instant information it is forcing out culture to suffer from information glut, taking the meaning and control out of information; information has become a form of garbage, not only incapable of answering the most fundamental human questions but barely useful in providing coherent direction to the solution of even mundane problems (Postman 69). Postman explains how society got to this point in his stages of information revolution, starting with the printing press, expansion of schools, however, he does so in a very black and white manner. There were several reasons for the rapid growth of the common school, but none was more obvious than that it was a necessary response to the anxieties and confusion aroused by information on the loose (Postman 62). As seen here he does not really back up his points. In his second stage of information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If, however, the man wrestling with a Tyrannosaurus was a modern Hollywood celebrity, not only would he have lived, he would have pocketed something like $20 million for his efforts, and earned the adulation of several billion people. In addition, no packet manipulation is done by devices in this layer. Rather, this layer is concerned with speed and ensures reliable delivery of packets. 7. Is redundancy required at any layer of this network? If it is, where and how would this redundancy be added to the network? What device or devices would be used to make this network redundant? A goal of redundant topologies is to eliminate network down time caused by a single point of failure. All networks need redundancy for enhanced reliability. Network reliability is achieved through reliable equipment and network designs that are tolerant to failures and faults. Networks should be designed to reconverge rapidly so that the fault is bypassed. In a redundant mesh topology network devices are connected with many redundant interconnections between network nodes. In a true mesh topology every node has a connection to every other node in the network. A mesh network with redundant connections is an example of a redundant topology. The level of redundancy can be measured by network connectivity. On a redundantly connected network if a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During my time at PBI, I worked to improve both the yield and quality of the protein extracted from Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded (FFPE) tissue, using high pressure systems engineered by PBI. Over the course of my two month internship, I optimized the deparaffinization method of the FFPE tissues along with the amount and type of pressure (steady or oscillating) that was applied to the samples. I improved basic lab techniques, and acquired new skills such as various sonication and homogenization methods and running RC DC (reducing agent and detergent compatible) protein assays. I also gained experience working independently on research projects. This internship introduced me to the life of an independent research scientist and motivated me to pursue a career in research. There could be several circumstances that create a situation where an individual can become a school dropout, low achiever and a persistently de motivated student. Academic resilience is the extra ordinary capacity that helps the student to rise above all these adverse conditions and perform academically well and to be in motivated state, for academic achievement (Alva, 1991, p. 19). In school going children, academic achievement is an important indicator of academic resilience. (Masten Coastworth, 1998). All of these actions are continuously occurring with or without the intention of doing so. P consciousness is always representational of the information derived from the event being experienced. Contrarily, Access Consciousness is introduced as the mode of consciousness in which representation, unlike P consciousness, is poised for control of speech, reasoning, and action (pg. 208 Block) . It is this mode of consciousness whose content can be broadcasted to communicate one s inner events, unlike the phenomenal qualities of P consciousness. The distinguishing factor between these two modes of consciousness is the element of qualia. Orientalism In Jane Eyre Jane Eyre (1847) has been considered one of the classic English texts which celebrates the arrival to selfhood of Jane from the state of an uncared for orphan to a governess of a rich household and eventually as an heiress of Ferndean. English literature (as all other literatures of the world) has certain canonical texts, which are widely acclaimed and accepted as classics. In the classics, we expect to find the finest embodiment of a culture. However, in the post colonial era literature is often read in a contrapuntal way to uncover the gaps. • 16. Major Gifts Essay Securing major gifts is important to almost every organization (Hodge, n.d., p.1). These gifts assist organizations in ensuring the success of both annual and capital campaigns (Hodge, n.d., p.1). They not only account for most of the donation to a campaign, but they can also serve as a lead gift, which gets other people interested in donating to the cause. Without major gifts, organizations would be doomed, therefore organizations need to ensure that they have the staff, resources, and training in place to allow for successful solicitations. After gaining an adequate level of confidence and comfort to be able to successfully solicit the major gift I would arrange a meeting with the potential benefactor. In setting up the meeting, I would be sure to express that the purpose of the meeting is for us to, invite their philanthropic support for an important organizational project (Hodge, n.d., p.12). Also, the ideal meeting location would either the home of the potential benefactor or the donor s place of business, whichever potential benefactor is more comfortable with (Hodge, n.d., p.12). At the meeting, we will begin with casual conversation as a way to show our interest in the potential benefactor, but to also calm some of my nerves. After a bit of conversation, we will introduce the reason for the meeting (Dove, n.d., p.11). BRIEF ANSWERS 1) Yes. Defendant owes no duty to protect Adair from the harm he alleges because an inherent risk of rock climbing includes the negligence of co participants as well as the danger of falling. 2) At trial, Williams will be able to offer his opinion as to the cause of the accident, but will be barred from any testimony regarding any risks inherent to the sport of rock climbing. 1. The court in Handleman forecloses this line of inquiry into foreseeability by reasoning that assumption of risk does not require clairvoyance to forsee the exact accident and injury that in fact occurs. Id. Consequently, the court held that all that is required to prove assumption of risk is that the injury be within the range of possibilities. Id. • 20. Heart Rate Variability ( Hrv ) Heart rate variability (HRV) is quickly becoming a buzz word in fitness, but in reality this is a very old technology. Dating back to at least 1948 (15) HRV has been a commonly used method in research and is an accepted diagnostic tool in several diseases/conditions, such as post traumatic stress disorder and type 2 diabetes (9, 23). HRV was, until recently, a tool that was confined to clinical and research settings, largely due to the prohibitively high cost of equipment. Recent advances in technology, particularly among heart rate monitors and smartphone based apps, have now made this technology available to fitness professionals and health/fitness consumers. HRV is derived from mathematical properties of cardiac inter beat intervals or what is referred to as a R R interval. This inter beat interval represents tiny changes in the timing (i.e. fractions of a second) from one heart beat to the next. Intuitively it would seem that a heart rate of 60 bpm would have exactly 1 second between each beat. It even seems reasonable that a very metronomic or steady heart rate would be indicative of health and/or fitness. In fact, just the opposite is true. A healthy cardiovascular control system will have a high level of complexity, or variability, while an aged, unfit or diseased system will show a loss of complexity or variability (21). The need for Electoral Reform in Canada Through a Mixed Electoral System Altering the electoral system would undoubtedly benefit Canada in numerous ways through the use of a mixed electoral system using proportional representation and alternative voting. Over the course of Canada s history, debate over electoral reform has appeared occasionally, with varying levels of intensity (Courtney 2005:154). Regardless, the amount of times that the topic has been discussed, demonstrates the need for its consideration. The word change often promotes a negative connotation, suggesting decreases in quality of government. However, it is important for one to focus on not changing the system, but rather improving it. This can be done through different voting methods such as proportional representation or alternative voting. Of course, there are disadvantages that could arise from electoral reform, especially in the case of either suggested systems. However, the vast advantages ultimately outweigh all potential consequences, justifying this action. Conclusively, it is advantageous to undergo electoral reform through a mixed election system of proportional representation and alternative voting, despite arguments opposed to both matters. To begin, electoral reform is necessary for one major reason. This reason being that the current system Canada operates under is simply not effective. In the normal process of consolidating a memory, three different processes take place: synaptic long term potentiation or LTP, systems consolidation, and reconsolidation (Depperman et al., 2014). LTP is a mechanism of neuroplasticity that increases the strength of certain synaptic connections through the stimulation of neurons involved in the connection. After an event happens, the new memory is transmitted to the hippocampus. Systems consolidation is the slow process by which memories are transferred from the hippocampus to the cortex such that memories are no longer hippocampus dependent. Reconsolidation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LTP is integral to the consolidation of fear memories and a fear network in people with PTSD. After a traumatic event, the details of the event and the emotions involved are consolidated into memory. The experience of stressful situations that occur after the traumatic event can trigger the synchronized firing of neuronal pathways related to the current experience as well as to the initial traumatic event. Through LTP, trauma related stimuli become associated with the stress and emotions experienced during the trauma. Synchronized firing in response to situations strengthens the fear network and also causes previously neutral stimuli to become incorporated into the fear network surrounding the traumatic event (Kolassa Elbert, 2007). In this way, single elements remembered from a traumatic event or even neutral stimuli can cause the entire fear network to become activated, thus activating the memory of the traumatic event. Reinforcement of the fear response by LTP is likely what leads to intrusive re experience of traumatic memories, especially in nightmares. Whenever the stress response becomes activated, the entire experience of the trauma becomes activated as well. After the Romans destroyed the Jewish temples and the city of Jerusalem, a group of Jewish people called the Zealots, captured and took over the Masada. • 39. The Struggle Between Social Class In The Creature And... The creature and Victor Frankenstein. Similar to how Marxist theory observes the remarkable struggle between social classes, the interactions between said characters, and their struggles, are put on display by Shelly. The exchanges between different characters (or social classes) can be explained by Marx s Communist Manifesto which states that two classes, one being the owners of production named the bourgeoisie and the workers or the proletariat (Montag 386). In this situation Victor can be compared to the bourgeoisie while the creation can be represented by the proletariat. In Frankenstein, a similar dynamic arises within the relationship between Victor and his creation as a definitive struggle rises between the two characters. After the successful birth of the monster Victor enjoys the reaps of his labor and establishes his power effectively exerting control over the lower class or, in this case, his creation. Throughout this evolution, Shelly depicts the relationship between the monster and Frankenstein with Shelly depicts the Marxist evaluation of capitalism. Later on, when Victor becomes enslaved by the horror of his creation, similar Marxist theory is displayed through what is defined as the products of labor. As a result of this, the monster becomes powerful and rebels against Victor, or his creator, who he describes as incompatible. This power struggle represents the struggle between the upper and lower classes, or, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He would never say the same of Merlin. While Tolkien drew much inspiration from Arthurian legend, especially Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf and Merlin are very different characters. Merlin is a man, one whose role in much of Arthurian legend is as a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs serious acts of magic. Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people, enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte, 23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le Morte, 29). Including a definition of pre and post processing, explain whether you would use read zoom or write zoom to image a gallbladder. Preprocessing refers to manipulation of scan information or data prior to storage in memory following scan conversion while post processing refers to manipulation of scan data after storage in the scan converter. Write zoom is associated with preprocessing while read zoom is associated with post processing (Schirber, 2013, pg. 110). In write zoom, the image is rewritten with more pixels than the initial image and thus the image is given more definition magnification. For read zoom, the image is magnified this is like enlarging a photo hence the image will only be bigger. In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Adopted around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of pictographs like many early forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing systems.11 The sophisticated navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this new version of cuneiform would quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet would soon be adopted by the Greeks, who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet their own needs; likewise the Romans, eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet for their own use. It could be said that the highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the basis for the literature of the Classical world. I have separated the report of the outline for your amphitheatre into five parts. The five parts consist of the following: 1) Location 2) Size 3) Accessibility 4) Arena structure and features 5) Funding I. I propose that we construct the amphitheatre to the right of Saepta Julia in the Campus Martius. The amphitheatre will be built in between the Isis Campensis and the Via Flaminia. Such a location has been chosen after much consideration because of the extensive amount of open space available to build the amphitheatre as well as its close proximity to the heart of Rome. Moreover, the location is beneficial in the sense that it would be constructed nearby the Saepta Julia. Since the creation of the Saepta Julia was planned by your adopted father, Julius Caesar, and dedicated to his daughter to honour you after it was finished, if your amphitheatre were to be built close to it, the area surrounding both structures will become like a district, the Julio Claudian district.
