The Living Dead
The introduction of zombies into this world has led many people to want to know about their
appearance, behavior, and weaknesses. Zombies are one of the most well known creatures in the world
today. Many people believe they are just a myth, but others have concluded that they are real. Fiction
or not, zombies are interesting enough to make people want to learn more about them.
The belief in zombies originated in the Haitian culture. The Haitians strongly believed in witchcraft
and Voodoo magic. They assumed that priests called bokors could turn a person into a zombie with a
powder containing a deadly poison. Several people would hire bokors to turn a person into a zombie if
they did not like him ( Zombies ). Bokors often turned the deceased into zombies if the person broke a
law during his lifetime. Zombies were also created for slavery. Being turned into a zombie was
considered a harsh punishment to receive. Although the Haitians concluded that zombies were real,
many other countries suspected that zombies were just a myth (Radford).
Although zombies are formed from dead humans, they have hardly any similarities in appearance. A
zombie s face consists of the same characteristics as a human s, but a zombie s skin has become ruined
due to decomposition. Their eyes appear to be much different once they have become a zombie. Their
pupils are shaded white. Zombies are also different from humans in the way they maneuver. While
humans normally move very easily, zombies have a

The Commercialization Of Flumist ( Medimmune ) The First...
The FDA approved in 2003 the commercialization of FluMist® (MedImmune) the first influenza
vaccine with attenuated virus. This trivalent vaccine is administrated via intranasal spray because the
virus replicates in cells lining the nasopharynx [21 23]. Use of live attenuated vaccine has been limited
to individuals two through forty nine years of age based on a failed efficacy to prevent febrile illness
in adults fifty through sixty five years of age [22]. As in the TIV the first step for the vaccine
production is the generation of the viral seeds that presents the circulating HA and NA and six internal
segments (PA, PB1, PB2, NS, NP, M) from the cold adapted (ca) A/Ann Arbor/6/60 or ca B/Ann
Arbor/1/66 (the master donor virus for LAIV (MDV)) [24, 25]. The manufacture of approved
FluMist® is also based on the injection in embryonated eggs of the reassortant virus and the recovery
of the allantoic fluid with the screening of the reassortant that grows well at 25ºC (cold adapted) and
present restricted growth (ta) at 37 39ºC and is attenuated (att). The vaccine is tested in the ferret
model [22]. Once the reassortant virus is selected, it is then injected in fertilized eggs pathogen free
(SPF) that are incubated between 48 72h at 35 37ºC. The allantoic fluid is recovered and clarified by
filtration. The virus is concentrated by ultrafiltration and diluted using a stabilizing agent to obtain the
final sucrose and potassium phosphate concentration. The virus harvest is then

The Economist Of Lowering The Voting Age
US society is made up of dozens of rules for kids and teens, providing age limits for a long list of
activities, including drinking alcohol and driving a car. The voting age is one of these age limits, and
has been a topic of debate for many years. The anonymous author(s) from The Economist believe that
lowering the voting age to 16 would be beneficial in increasing the low percentage of under 25 voters,
as well as boosting political activity throughout their lives. They attempt to convince the readers of
The Economist that the voting age should be lowered, using elevated diction, a rhetorical question,
and facts to back up their claims, creating an overall scholarly tone. The Economist starts out their
essay using a rhetorical question: How

Comparison between Judaism and Christianity
Comparison between Judaism and Christianity
Name
Institution Christianity and Judaism are two religions which share an origin. Abraham is the father of
faith of both Christians and Judaists. The two religions are based on the Old Testament; however,
Judaism has refused to acknowledge the New Testament. It is said that is a Judaist accepts
Christianity, and then become complete. However, if a pagan accepts Christianity, they are converted
because they do not have the basis that is provided by Judaism. Both Christianity and Judaism believe
in the existence of heaven and hell. Both religion follow the same ethical code and believe that God
had the same plan for salving the fallen race. The two religions also preach of the sinfulness of ...

Salvation in Judaism on the other hand is attained through adhering to the Ten Commandments that
were given to Moses and passed on to the Israelites. Judaist communicates to God through dialogue
that is achieved by several traditions and rituals that are continuous. Sacrifices are also made to
appease an angry God. Moreover, according to Christian religion, since man inherited the sins of
Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the
right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting
the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the
freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should
choose good from bad. They also believe that it is possible to become holy by following all the rules
that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where
they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book
of life. In Christianity however, God is the only person responsible for judging people. This is because
Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man
knows who is righteous and who is not. All this will be revealed in the final day when the

Health Halo Effect
The article The Fair Trade Effect: Health Halos From Social Ethics by Jonathon P. Schuldt,
Dominique Muller, and Norbert Schwarz claims that there is something called the halo effect, which is
when someone or something has a good first impression and further evaluations are seen as good on
unrelated topics. This effect also applies to food and is called the health halo effect. Examples of this
are when companies put labels on foods like low fat or healthy, this leads to people thinking that the
food product has fewer calories, estimating less calories, and leads to people ordering higher calorie
foods. There is also discussion about whether ethical food claims like fair trade, organic, and locally
produced might influence peoples perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point in the article is that if there is the word organic or fair trade on the product it affects
how healthy a person perceives the product to be. I agree with this point because I am one of those
people, I am more likely to buy a product if it has organic or fair trade on the label because I assume it
is healthier. When I see this on the label I think low fat or low calories. However, there are other
factors that can influence the likely hood of a person choosing a product and thinking it is healthy, like
emoticons. A person is more likely to avoid a product if there is a unhappy face emoticon on the
label(Vasiljevic et al. 7). The second point is that people are more likely to think a product has higher
calories or lower calories depending on whether a company treats its employees fairly or not. To me
this point depends on how informed the person is about products and companies. Many people are not
really informed about how companies treat their employees, especially when companies only allow
the public to see what they want us to see. The study was only conducted on people who had strong
ethical food values but what about people who do not have strong ethical food values. That is why
labels are so important it determines if a person perceives the product as unhealthy or healthy, but as
discussed in class even food labels can be

The For Breast Cancer Action
Pinkwashing is the systematic marketing of products with pink ribbons or other pink motifs within
brand design, which gives the appearance of the company s intention to give some part of the profit
towards breast cancer causes. Ironically, the money made from this marketing will often not
significantly benefit somebody with breast cancer. The pink ribbon was originally created by the
Susan G Komen foundation yet anybody can use this symbol, because there is no intellectual
copyright on it. Pinkwashing is term was first coined by the organization called breast cancer action,
whose mission is to Breast Cancer Action s mission is to achieve health justice for all women at risk of

This can be attributed to excessive pinkwashing of everyday products in our economy, because they
indicate that cultural attitudes surrounding breast cancer are susceptible towards politically biases in
medical treatment. Breast cancer is a particular social issue that has had an incredible amount of bias
affecting how the medical community addresses solving it, and much of it can be seen surrounding the
dialogue around pinkwashing products. Treatment for chronic diseases in modern medicine tends to be
an expensive endeavor for patients, and thus difficult to access for many. One would think that the
huge financial resources generated by selling trendy pink products would assist in covering for these
treatments, but there is not much proof that this happens. There are numerous reasons why this money
may not be reaching women. One reason is that there might be a cap on the companies donations
(Truesdale and Lopez 9). This means that no matter how many items that have the branded pink on
them are sold, the company has already set aside a certain amount of money to donate towards their
selected charity. Any access amount of money generated from selling the pink item will not be
included in the donation. Consumers may be able to see how nonprofit charities spend their money,
but profit based companies are not obligated to disclose this

Ralph Waldo Emerson s By The Mountain
By the Mountain
All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen Ralph Waldo Emerson
My residence sinks demurely into the margin of Mt. Julius. The mountain stands gallantly but the
concealed core is swept with solitude and mystery. A thick mist circles the mountain, casting a
phantom like shadow onto the bustling city below. It is a world away from life up here on the
mountainside, so much so I feel as though I am a stranger, a witness to the activity that continues
miles below my feet.
I dwell alone in my abode as it has been the norm for twenty years my whole existence. I am likely to
for the rest of my life. Within the enchanting visions of my mind, summer is spent in a fetching
bungalow on a towering hill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But alas, I remain on a chilling mountain, seen but at the same time ignored by all who reside beneath.
I gazed across the horizon, polluted with grey towers and vibrant lights, making no match to the sky
infused with honeyed ripples.
I long to explore those ruins but have been unable to. My mindset is restraining me tightly, its arms
curled around my waist. Even though I know it is a natural human instinct to fear for the unknown, my
conscience yearns for freedom.
The next day, I had broken away from the chains and took a step out onto the bare land as the glowing
sun bloomed from the villages. I was one step closer to alleviating the burden that lingered and
dominated my headspace. Taking hesitant steps towards the labyrinthine path, I inhaled the crisp air
and let it rest on my lips as I ambled through the towering bushes, the city in sight.
Billboards radiated dazzling light all around and clattering vehicles buzzed about crumbling roads that
stretched in all directions. It felt soulless and pathetic. Had they never felt the wind streaming
outwards through their hair? They never will, it is dark and dusty in these places. Had they ever had
the pleasure of breathing a clean breeze? Of course not, my lungs were wheezing and

My Papa s Waltz Analysis Essay
My Papa s Waltz is a short poem written by a man by the name of Theodore Roethke. The poem is
narrated to us by a young boy, presumably similar to Roethke himself, and is directed towards the
young boy s father. This poem talks about his father s over use of the substance alcohol, particularly
whiskey, and some of the actions the father does in front of the young boy while he is intoxicated. The
tone of the poem is sort of dark and critical, understandably. Each line holds a particular type of
meaning and together tells a little story. The title of the poem, My Papa s Waltz, can suggest that the
poem is narrated by the father s son. At the beginning of the poem Roethke writes, The whiskey on
your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy (1 2). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line thirteen the use of the word beat may not be so literal towards physical actions. It could easily
be referring to a musical type of beat, instead of a physical beating, since the father and son are
dancing after all. The word beat itself, as well as line fourteen, can remind the reader that the father is
still a tough man, despite being silly and dancing the Waltz with his young son. The last two lines of
the poem state: Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt (15 16). The father has now
decided to end the dance by taking his son on to bed, and it could possibly be assumed the only reason
they danced to begin with was to tire the young boy out a little so he could sleep well that night. By
the end, the boy is still clinging onto his father s shirt. Even after the boy had been scraped up a little
during the dance, he is still clinging onto the shirt. The young boy could either be resisting being put
to bed, or he is still holding onto his father because he loves him, even after

How Does Abigail Williams Relate To The Crucible
Abigail Williams
The song Rollercoaster by the Bleachers is a good song that can be easily relatable with the character
Abigail Williams from The Crucible. Abigail and the song share many characteristics that help them
relate. Abigail gets a lot of people killed, she is exciting, and she is like a teenager who ran away.
When Abigail Williams took control of the town of Salem, Massachusetts, she got a lot of people
killed. She could be classified as a killer queen as mentioned in the song Rollercoaster . Abigail ruled
the town and everyone followed her while she could get multiple people killed. One other way Abigail
could relate to the song is how she acted.
Abigail Williams is young, active, and exciting just like the song Rollercoaster .

Quentin Tarantino s Film Pulp Fiction
You Are What You Eat Food has evolved from so much more than a source of nutrition in today s
society. It contains culture, traditions, and is shared with others. Quentin Tarantino s movie, Pulp
Fiction, briefly brings light to the importance and uniqueness of food from different cultures. There is
a scene where two men, Vincent and Jules, sit in a car having small talk about food in Europe. Parts of
their conversation, however, contain some very resonant discussions of food, place, and identity.
Vincent: But you know what the funniest thing about Europe is? Jules: What? Vincent: It s the little
differences. I mean, they got the same shit over there that we got here, but it s just, just, there it s a

Today, however, it has become so much more. According to a research paper written by Martin
Lindstrom, Branding is all about building emotional ties between consumer and product. (pg. 85)
Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands that are
communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of forming emotional
connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and Beverage companies exploit
this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast cereal that goes snap, crackle, and
pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish laboratories worked to create the particular
sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the
cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without
the simultaneous stimulation of multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as
memorable. Take watching a scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very
scary movie, but if you turn the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. What we have
learned from Kellogg s is that their success lies in mastering the synergy of all five senses. Food can
stimulate all five senses at the same time to bring back past memories. In Carlos Eire starts his book

The Total Number Of Valid Sudoku Grids
The Total Number of Valid Sudoku Grids
Introduction
Sudoku s roots can be traced back to 1780 s Switzerland, when Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler
developed Latin Squares the concept of arranging symbols within a grid such that each symbol would
appear only once in each row or column which is the basis of Sudoku. Thus, most would attribute the
invention of Sudoku to Switzerland, even though the puzzle s name consists of two Japanese
characters: su (which means number ) and doku (which means single ). I, along with many others
around the world, enjoy the challenge that Sudoku puzzles present, and have done so since I was about
twelve years old. I have always taken for granted the apparently random amount and placement of
given numbers for each particular puzzle, and never wondered why or how I solved the puzzle each
time; until now, that is.
The aim of this exploration is to to find the number of distinct Sudoku grids.
Understanding the Rules of Sudoku
The format of a Sudoku puzzle is a nine by nine grid with at least seventeen givens, or cells that are
already occupied by numbers that are known to be correct. The grid is subdivided into nine three by
three blocks, nine rows, and nine columns, as Figures 1, 2, and 3 respectively demonstrate below:

Each block can be further divided into cells as shown in Figure 4:

Each cell has a neighborhood, which includes the block, row, and column specific to a

Descriptive Essay About The Winter Concert
The sound of a dying cow, croaking its last breath . That was what my dad called the sound of me
playing my clarinet. Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but 3rd
grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band students
(including me) had thought they were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the world. Of
course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less professionals. And this
leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We could not call it the Christmas
concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95% of the kids were Christian/White and
most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we
played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far,
we screwed it up. By the end, none of the parents watching could tell the difference between the song
and the squeaks that were over powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came
up to each of their sweet little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said,
You guys sounded like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it.
Their inner thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I
actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park
instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM
NOT MAD! Just joking, I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the kids just came for the free pizza and
goodie bags at the end, but didn t we all at one point. I remember one time a group of me and my
friends went to this B day party of a girl we all hated... and avoided her the entire time! Ahhh, the
good old days where every kid was a bull, even to their fake friends, and no one got in trouble. Back
to what I was saying, so my party was all yay yay glitter, pink, sparkles, etc. until my brothers came.
Okay, so I have two brothers, one who is a year younger and one that s two years younger. You might

Argumentative Essay On Nuclear War
Caleb Dean
Mrs. Smith
English III
1 November 2017
Rough Draft
Nuclear warfare is arguably one of the darkest topics and one of the biggest threats in today s society.
A Nuclear War would cause exponential chaos and destruction to our world and many lives would be
lost. Many countries have nuclear weapons at their disposal. The first people to create nuclear
weapons were the scientist at the Manhattan project. The Manhattan Project is one of the most
important and technologically advanced events involving the smartest minds of all time and changed
the course of history.
In the evening of June 18th, 1942, the Manhattan project was ordered to be created by president
Roosevelt. Roosevelt order this weapon to be created because Hitler was making progress in Europe
and our naval base at pearl harbor got destroyed months earlier. The man placed in control of the
project was Colonel J.C. Marshall. The main goal of the Manhattan project was to build a nuclear
bomb before Germany could, it was a race to see who would build it first and the winner of the race
most likely would win the war. Because it was a race against Germany, Colonel Marshall wanted
every single aspect of the project to be kept secret. By fall of the same year that it was created they
had recruited hundreds of scientists to work on this project but it still was not enough. The scientist
worked on different aspects of the creation and were not allowed to talk back in fourth about the part
of the project that they were

Comparing Dorian Gray And Neil Jordan s Interview With A
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a Vampire are gothic
narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and hedonism. Although the texts do not contain
any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera
angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not mention any
homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described within the competition for
Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks
as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of youthful
idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s youthful sensuality. Lord Henry and Basil Hallward praise
Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil commenting as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will
dominate me. (Basil Hallward) Whilst Basil is rejected, Dorian wishes to emulate Lord Henry, which
in turn, rouses Lord Henry from his characteristic languor to a desire to influence Dorian, a process
that is itself a sublimated expression of homosexuality. The older gentlemen s longing for Dorian and
his admiration of them adds taboo to the secrecy of the characters private lives. Sensuality and ...

Nigeria s Strong Economic Track Record Burden Of Disease
Nigeria is the largest Sub Saharan country in Africa and has a population of around 173 million
people. The population is very diverse. It has over 200 ethnic groups, with three tribes known as the
Yoruba (West), Ibo (East), and the Hausa (North). These tribes speak nearly 500 different indigenous
languages (World Health Organization, 2015).
Nigeria has the largest natural gas reserves in Africa and is also the biggest oil exporter on the
continent. What this means in terms of global health is that Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa
with an estimated GDP of 510 billion USD, which surpasses South Africa s economy by over 200
billion (World Health Organization, 2015). This type of economic growth can reduce poverty, improve
standards of living by offering proper education, provide quality healthcare, and repair infrastructure,
which will help reduce injuries related deaths. This paper will attempt to explain that despite Nigeria s
strong economic track record their burden of disease is still running rampant, also there are many
leading health indicators that need to be readdressed, and finally the steps Nigeria is taking to combat
these issues.
The burden of disease can be measured using the disability adjusted life year scale (DALY). This scale
was developed in the 1990 s to assess the burden of disease across regions, risk factors and different
diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is a measure of the years of life lost

Essay The Situation for Refugees and Immigrants in the USA
The United States of America has always been a refuge where poor and oppressed people from the far
corners of the world can come to begin a new life. Much of the nation s allure to prospective
immigrants is in its promise of equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, or color. But the
pressures of rising unemployment rates, congested cities, a crippled healthcare system, and national
debt skyrocketing out of control have caused America to defend her borders against the influx of
immigrants that threaten her already ailing economy. Still, despite all the heightened security measures
incorporated in recent decades, a steady stream of immigrants continue to enter the country illegally.
The Washington Times reports that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mistrust of American society promotes a sense of isolation and alienation from the community.
Authority figures, such as police and other first responders, may unwittingly strike fear into the hearts
of these children because they have been conditioned to believe that these figures have the power, as
well as the mandate, to destroy families. This mindset tends to discourage assimilation into
mainstream American communities and promote instead the tendency of these families to cluster into
small, ethnically concentrated barrios, or neighborhoods. Within these barrios, the culture and lifestyle
of Mexico is recreated, which often reinforces psychological and physical isolation from mainstream
American culture. Alliances are formed with others in similar circumstances, where commiseration
often leads to a rising sense of resentment. It is not uncommon for angry groups to rise up in
opposition to the society that is viewed as the oppressor. Evidence of this can be seen almost daily as
senseless gang violence permeates our news broadcasts, plagues our communities, and terrorizes our
citizens. Because they do not have the legal right to work in this country, undocumented immigrants
earn very little. Unscrupulous employers are quick to exploit these workers, paying them considerably
less than state minimum wage laws mandate. Thus, immigrant families are forced to live in sub
standard conditions and eek out an

Culture As Common Practices And Knowledge
When describing culture, I feel it is different in all places of the world, but has the same meaning. I
define culture as common practices and knowledge held by a group of people in a fixed area. Most
areas have their own individual culture, but they can connect to each other in some way. Learning
about a different culture is something I did with my own experiences. Having done this, I see culture
as civilizations having their own look on life individually.
With culture being practices and knowledge held by groups in certain areas, I have witnessed this in
person. In the summer of 2015, I had the most amazing opportunity of my life so far to come my way.
My youth group was going on an international mission trip, and I had the possibility to go to
Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Getting this news for the first time, I felt butterflies in my stomach, warmth
rushing throughout my body, and the urge to jump out of my seat. You can certainly say I was excited
for my new adventure to begin. This would be a completely new experience for me because I had
never even been out of the United States.
To start off the trip, I had to wake before dawn, and when the stars were still twinkling in the night
sky. My brother and I were the two from our family to embark on this trip and we both woke up with
dark bags under our eyes, but we were ready for the long plane ride ahead of us. This being my first
international trip, it was also my first plane ride. We got on the plane and I did not know that it

The Federalist Papers By John Jay
The Federalist Papers
This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the
design of Providence that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a ban of brethren, united to each
other by the strongest of ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial, jealous, and alien
sovereignties. (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of 85 essays written by
John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist Papers. (Henretta,
Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of uncertainty, when a new
nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever done, set up a government of
the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were influential, well written and published
at a juncture in history where they were needed the most. The Federalists Papers were instrumental to
the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps some of the most important documents in U.S.
national history for without the Federalists Papers, our constitution and nation would not be what they
are today. The end of the revolutionary war with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 meant the
great experiment was really about to begin. It really boiled down to a simple question, can man govern
himself? A revolution occurred against the most powerful empire in the world because the founding
fathers believed the answer to be yes . For this to

Hume on Miracles Essay
Hume on Miracles
It is evident in David Hume s writing of An Equity Concerning Human Understanding that he does not
believe that miracles take place. Hume is a man of logic, who believes in experience over knowledge.
Of course it is hard for such a man to believe in extraordinary claims without being there to witness
them. Especially when such events require a lot of faith.
In order for an event to be deemed a miracle, it must disobey the laws of nature. However, it is these
same laws that disprove almost any miracle that has ever been reported. He writes that some events
that people report as miracles truly are not. For example, it is not a miracle, that fire burns wood, or
that a healthy man dies, because both of these are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then and only then would he be able to be sure that a person was not motivated by any other force
when claiming that what they saw was actually a miracle. In so many words, Hume wrote, that no
testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony is of such a kind that its falsehood
would be more miraculous than the fact which it endeavors to establish #8230; (pg. 674, col.1). He

History And Culture Of The Cook Islands
History of Culture
The history behind the culture of the Cook Islands came from the various sources of ancient
migration, and early land settlement. The islands got its name from a British man named Captain
James Cook. He landed on the island in 1773. It was in the 19th century is when missionaries started
to come to the islands. They brought with them many sicknesses as well as churches and schools to
share the gospel. Through this, the island s dominate religion is Christianity.
In the Cook Islands culture, all the islands employed a chiefly system based on traditional legends of
migration and settlement (Cook Islands: Art and Culture). Born to power as chiefs and inheritors,
Polynesian culture before Europe s involvement, falls nothing short to that in comparison to Greece s
heroic period. Like Homer s concept in early 1200 BC, islanders adopted a similar and identical
concept of belief known as, Mana , or power. This concept consisted of: connection, feasting, dancing,
offerings of food, attitudes toward females, and the absence of individualism (Cook Islands: Art and
Culture).
Cook Islands culture is based on family and celebration. Since the Cook Islands are made up of many
smaller islands, it is relevant that Cook Islanders choose to identify first with their individual island
and secondarily with the country as an entirety.
Uniqueness of the Culture
Differing from other regions and their cultures, Polynesian culture is unique due to having their own

Analysis Of Being A Half Breed By Leslie Marmon
Leslie Marmon Silko s novel, Ceremony, reveals how the crossing of cultures was feared, ridiculed,
and shunned in various Native American tribes. The fear of change is a common and overwhelming
fear everyone faces at some point in their life. The fear of the unknown, the fear of letting go, and the
fear of forgetting all play a part in why people struggle with change. In Ceremony the crossing of
cultures creates half breeds, usually bringing disgrace to their family s name. In Jodi Lundgren s
discourse, Being a Half breed , is about how a girl who struggles with understanding what cultural
group she fits into since she is a half breed. Elizabeth Evasdaughter s essay, Leslie Marmon Silko s

These derogatory terms were used against Tayo and Night Swan as they differed from the Laguna
people. Tayo and Night Swan are rejected by the white and Native populations, and it is determined
they are tainted or dirty compared to those ridiculing others. Night Swan says, they think that if their
children have the same color of skin, the same color of eyes, that nothing is changing, which is why
Auntie excludes Tayo from the family because of Tayo s mother s mistake to interact with white men
(Silko 92). We see a change in this perspective in today s society as we have interracial families,
where race plays little to no part in determining a couple s love for one another. However, we do still
have families which believe their children should marry within the same race due to the fear of change
within their own family.
Night Swan is initially an outcast because she is a half breed but her frivolous behavior pushes her
even further as a disgrace to women. Night Swan discusses the real reason her and Tayo are outcasts,
they are afraid, Tayo. They feel something happening, they can see something happening around them,
and it scares them. Indians or Mexicans or whites most people are afraid of change. (Silko 92). Night
Swan teaches Tayo about miscegenation and how the people do not physically fear them, but rather
fear the concept of change occurring around them. Night Swan

Segment Reporting And Information Disclosure
Introduction
Segment reporting is the disaggregation of a reporting entity s financial reports into segments. This
paper investigates whether segment reporting is worthwhile and whether the requirements of the new
segment reporting standard (IFRS 8) have had an impact on the way companies disclose segment
information.
Significance of Segment Reporting
Segment reporting is integral to the process of investment analysis and there is a common agreement
among financial analysts that such information is essential to their work. Previous literature has found
that segment information disclosure can increase security valuation and can make future earnings
better. It is likely for a firm with diversified geographic and/or business operations, ... Show more

However, in 1968 more than 50% of the mergers comprised of firms from different lines of business.
Therefore, financial reporting problems from unrelated business mergers resulted in criticism from
investors and the only solution was segmental disclosure. There is no doubt that segment reporting is a
contentious issue: the nature of the information disclosed seems to be commercially sensitive. The
significance of segment information, however, cannot be denied. Whether or not segmental reporting
is worthwhile is a question (a theoretical issue) that can be resolved logically. For an objective answer,
we should consider the advantages and disadvantages of segment reporting. Consolidated financial
statements offer a comprehensive view of entity s financial performance. Such aggregation process
leads to information loss. It also can t reveal profitable or unprofitable subsidiaries and divisions
which can be considered high risk owing to excessive debt levels can also escape attention. Thus,
segment disclosures enable a more informed assessment of performance and associated risks of an
organization i.e. it is in the best interests of the investors because they use such information to allocate
their resources efficiently. Segment reporting is also a good sign of managerial stewardship. Two
factors which support this are, first, bad investment decisions will be emphasized and secondly,

Clients are more and more oriented to the more rentable channels like internet and ATMs. Virtual
banks consequently deliver a lot of services but only through internet that allow to reduce costs in
occupancy and salaries in order to offer better rates of interest (to 3 times better than averages). Virtual
low costs positioned banks compete against other virtual banks with good customer service, in house
costumer data and service center operations, strong management teams, a good mix of attractively
priced products, and low marketing costs. It s a price competition which includes lower margins
directly.
What about the entry barriers with potential entrants? It is a low threat. The largest barrier to entry is
the expenses in founding a bank: a new bank needs to raise 8 12 million to begin operations. But start
up costs for virtual banks are much less expensive than for traditional banks: virtual banks could begin
operations for millions less than traditional banks (no offices, etc.) , even though they ll have to invest
a lot in marketing and advertising budgets in order to attract depositors at the start up time. The second
barrier is loyalty to older, larger, and more established brand name banks. Here we can talk about a
network effect. And third, an existing bank holding company provides investments and backing for the
new bank by spinning off a separate banking entity.

The s Leadership Traits, Behavior And Styles Essay
Chrysler is among the biggest American automobile companies. However, before the current success
the company enjoys, it underwent enormous losses and was declared bankrupt during the 2008 2009
automotive industry crisis. With the appointment of Sergio Marchionne as its chairperson and CEO,
the company became successful again. Marchionne s unique leadership skills, type, and behavior that
are not always popular are credited with the success of the enterprise. The paper discusses Marchionne
s leadership traits, behavior and styles and how they have contributed to the firm s success.
Personality and Leadership Traits Sergio Marchionne is a visionary man full of drive, a trait necessary
for leaders (Kumar, 2009). Upon taking the reins at Chrysler Group on 10 June 2009, Marchionne had
a vision of Chrysler reclaiming its position among the top automobile manufacturing companies in the
world. To achieve this goal, Marchionne borrowed $7.6 billion from both the Canadian and United
States governments ( 2011 All star , 2011, para.7). By mid 2010, Chrysler had launched sixteen new
vehicles to be presented for the 2011 model period. He even managed to pay the loan to the two
governments six years in advance. Moreover, because of Marchionne s vision, as from mid 2010 to

an amazing play to watch. This well directed drama will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout
the entire performance. There were only five character s and all are worth noting: Sandra Birch (Silda)
the recovering alcoholic who just got out of rehab who is also Polly s sister, Bryan Lark (Trip) the
youngest child, family referee and TV producer, Hugh Maguire (Lyman), father, husband to Polly, ex
film star and now diplomat, Lea Smith (Brooke) the depressed daughter who carries an immense

The Issue Of Reproductive Rights
The topic of reproductive rights surrounding women in Texas has been a hot buttoned issue since the
closing of many reproductive centers across the state. Recently damaging abortion restrictions were
passed and therefor encroach on women s reproductive rights even more by decreasing access to
abortion care. Texas 84th Legislature, both passed HB 3994 as a law and had it Governor Abbott make
it effective with his signature on July 8, or this year. This law complicates access to abortion services
for mistreated and neglected minors and for those who do not possess specific identification cards in
Texas.
Specifically HB 3994 has four requirements of the bill that would explicitly hinder Latina minors. The
first provision it that the bill will make it harder for a minor to demonstrate that she needs a judge to
approve her for an abortion because the level of evidence that the minor must acquire is much more
encompassing. Secondly, it revises the requirement that a judges rule must be made immediately,
expanding the decision time from two days to five and prolonging the process. The third provision
withdrawals the requirement that in the case the judge cannot make an immediate rule, then the minor
s case was automatically granted. This third provision along with the extension of the ruling time,
could lead to a number of rules not being made and to the possibility of the minor s application being
denied. Fourthly, the new bill brings limits on who can have their appeals heard

How Does Your Personality Shape Your Workplace Effectiveness
How does your personality shape your workplace effectiveness?
Introduction
Personality is an important trait which has an impact on the surrounding in your workplace. As a
manager, I believe that a workplace has several types of people who come from various religion, race,
country and cultural beliefs. Each individual need to be treated with respect and care, there issues need
to be addressed without neglecting and they should be given room for their own personal growth
within the organization. Personality is related to the culture being practiced in the organization. They
are directly proportional to each other. Culture needs to be initiated by the management and
employees follow it.
Effective management skills require managers to develop policies having the employees in mind,
along with this regular interval for employees and also trips can be organized for team building
purposes. Managers are known to have a good vision, interpersonal skill, technical skill and also
perception. As manager s, they need to understand their strengths and weaknesses by conducting
personality tests and follow certain practices to make their personality better in order to better deal
with employees. It needs a lot of dedication and commitment to be a good manager with pleasant
practices on a day to day basis. We as managers, need to remember that we are role models for the
employees in an organization and they look up to us to be a better person.

Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67
million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership).
But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves
and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with
humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34
million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of
the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC
Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700
s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy
Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North
America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that
they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops,
such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and
the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

Bob Dylan And The Definition Of Success
Everything present in the universe is a relatable term just like the word success . Like most of the
definitions, the interpretation of success varies with the people s perception so it is rather impossible
to understand success in a simple way. In the present era, most of the people relate success with the
materialistic achievements such as wealth, power and fame while some prefer to evaluate success by
assessing the contribution of the person to the society. Many great poets, politicians, writers and

The nature of the iterations will not necessarily change much; but the longevity of the software
produced will certainly increase. Early iterations (usually in the inception phase) have a tendency to
be thrown out. During elaboration, you will discover the rest of the use cases (or at least their first
approximations) and will implement the minimal set. During construction, users will drive towards
giving the customer the minimum system that they need. The nature of the iterations will not change
much, but your focus will be on identifying the smallest possible deliverable that will still meet at
least some of the customers needs. During construction, the use cases will change a bit as the customer

The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay
In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities
as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many
of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined
community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical
boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a
technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and
Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face
communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral
Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will
demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and
prevalence in Canadian life.
To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate
communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined
community . Prior to the invention of print, Canadian aboriginals lived in an oral society where the
spoken word was the dominant form of communication. Because the transfer of information was
limited to face to face communication, oral societies, unlike imagined communities, could only

The Early Phases and Globalization of Coffee Essay
A commodity is a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold. The
market treats it as equipment or nearly so with no regard to who produced it. The original producer
does not make the big money from the good that has become a commodity demanded by consumers. A
commodity s supply and demand is part of one universal market like corn, or wheat. A stereo is
something that would not be considered a commodity. Other things are important about a stereo not
that it is just a stereo but what brand and quality is in consideration when purchasing a stereo. Demand
for one type might be much larger than the demand for another. This is not the case with commodities;

The grain lost its value and was without quality. The farmer s were not rewarded based on the quality
of the grain but the quantity. This made it very hard to determine the true value of a sack of grain, this

We can understand the relation between commodity and trade development through the study of
coffee and it s origins. Over about 90% of coffee is produced in the South, and consumed in the North.
Or a long time Latin America has provided most of the world s coffee. Coffee comes from a cherry
produced by a tree that requires a warm climate without any sudden temperature shifts or frost and it
needs plenty of rain. This climate is ideal for coffee between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
During the movement of coffee from harvest to export the first step is to separate the coffee bean from
the skin and the pulp of the cherry, this results in what is called green coffee. Before it is exported the
coffee is cleaned and sorted into lots that have different quality attributes, something like the grain
elevators. The lots vary as they go from country to country based on the size, the shape shape and the
deficiencies it might have or the way it is processed. At this point in the process the coffee still has it s
individual quality and value.

The Impact Of Food Quality On Food Industry
Food quality plays an important role in food industry. Currently, consumers demands on higher quality
of food products are increasing rapidly. Therefore, food industry is interested in analytical methods
which can provide low cost, fast, precise, and non destructive analysis on product quality (Gowen et
al., 2007). The researches on non destructive food quality analyzing technologies have gain significant
amount of interests (Chen et al., 2013; Lind and Murhed, 2012).
Machine vision, as a novel non destructive analyzing technology, has been widely studied and
employed in various industries (Davies, 2012). It can be applied to inspect raw materials or products
during manufacturing (Davies, 2013). Recently the applications of machine vision in food industry are

This play activity was selected because, as suggested previously, the experience of pretend play and

only relevant human environmental factor to consider is Lily. Lily s response to Amelia s verbal cues
supported the play. However, 3 year old Lily did not contribute ideas to the play and therefore, Amelia
directed the play most of the time whereas in kindergarten, Amelia is expected to have playmates of
similar age that participate in play as equals with her. Furthermore, Amelia s play would be supervised

  • 2. The Living Dead The introduction of zombies into this world has led many people to want to know about their appearance, behavior, and weaknesses. Zombies are one of the most well known creatures in the world today. Many people believe they are just a myth, but others have concluded that they are real. Fiction or not, zombies are interesting enough to make people want to learn more about them. The belief in zombies originated in the Haitian culture. The Haitians strongly believed in witchcraft and Voodoo magic. They assumed that priests called bokors could turn a person into a zombie with a powder containing a deadly poison. Several people would hire bokors to turn a person into a zombie if they did not like him ( Zombies ). Bokors often turned the deceased into zombies if the person broke a law during his lifetime. Zombies were also created for slavery. Being turned into a zombie was considered a harsh punishment to receive. Although the Haitians concluded that zombies were real, many other countries suspected that zombies were just a myth (Radford). Although zombies are formed from dead humans, they have hardly any similarities in appearance. A zombie s face consists of the same characteristics as a human s, but a zombie s skin has become ruined due to decomposition. Their eyes appear to be much different once they have become a zombie. Their pupils are shaded white. Zombies are also different from humans in the way they maneuver. While humans normally move very easily, zombies have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Commercialization Of Flumist ( Medimmune ) The First... The FDA approved in 2003 the commercialization of FluMist® (MedImmune) the first influenza vaccine with attenuated virus. This trivalent vaccine is administrated via intranasal spray because the virus replicates in cells lining the nasopharynx [21 23]. Use of live attenuated vaccine has been limited to individuals two through forty nine years of age based on a failed efficacy to prevent febrile illness in adults fifty through sixty five years of age [22]. As in the TIV the first step for the vaccine production is the generation of the viral seeds that presents the circulating HA and NA and six internal segments (PA, PB1, PB2, NS, NP, M) from the cold adapted (ca) A/Ann Arbor/6/60 or ca B/Ann Arbor/1/66 (the master donor virus for LAIV (MDV)) [24, 25]. The manufacture of approved FluMist® is also based on the injection in embryonated eggs of the reassortant virus and the recovery of the allantoic fluid with the screening of the reassortant that grows well at 25ºC (cold adapted) and present restricted growth (ta) at 37 39ºC and is attenuated (att). The vaccine is tested in the ferret model [22]. Once the reassortant virus is selected, it is then injected in fertilized eggs pathogen free (SPF) that are incubated between 48 72h at 35 37ºC. The allantoic fluid is recovered and clarified by filtration. The virus is concentrated by ultrafiltration and diluted using a stabilizing agent to obtain the final sucrose and potassium phosphate concentration. The virus harvest is then ... • 4. The Economist Of Lowering The Voting Age US society is made up of dozens of rules for kids and teens, providing age limits for a long list of activities, including drinking alcohol and driving a car. The voting age is one of these age limits, and has been a topic of debate for many years. The anonymous author(s) from The Economist believe that lowering the voting age to 16 would be beneficial in increasing the low percentage of under 25 voters, as well as boosting political activity throughout their lives. They attempt to convince the readers of The Economist that the voting age should be lowered, using elevated diction, a rhetorical question, and facts to back up their claims, creating an overall scholarly tone. The Economist starts out their essay using a rhetorical question: How ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparison between Judaism and Christianity Comparison between Judaism and Christianity Name Institution Christianity and Judaism are two religions which share an origin. Abraham is the father of faith of both Christians and Judaists. The two religions are based on the Old Testament; however, Judaism has refused to acknowledge the New Testament. It is said that is a Judaist accepts Christianity, and then become complete. However, if a pagan accepts Christianity, they are converted because they do not have the basis that is provided by Judaism. Both Christianity and Judaism believe in the existence of heaven and hell. Both religion follow the same ethical code and believe that God had the same plan for salving the fallen race. The two religions also preach of the sinfulness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salvation in Judaism on the other hand is attained through adhering to the Ten Commandments that were given to Moses and passed on to the Israelites. Judaist communicates to God through dialogue that is achieved by several traditions and rituals that are continuous. Sacrifices are also made to appease an angry God. Moreover, according to Christian religion, since man inherited the sins of Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should choose good from bad. They also believe that it is possible to become holy by following all the rules that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book of life. In Christianity however, God is the only person responsible for judging people. This is because Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man knows who is righteous and who is not. All this will be revealed in the final day when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Health Halo Effect The article The Fair Trade Effect: Health Halos From Social Ethics by Jonathon P. Schuldt, Dominique Muller, and Norbert Schwarz claims that there is something called the halo effect, which is when someone or something has a good first impression and further evaluations are seen as good on unrelated topics. This effect also applies to food and is called the health halo effect. Examples of this are when companies put labels on foods like low fat or healthy, this leads to people thinking that the food product has fewer calories, estimating less calories, and leads to people ordering higher calorie foods. There is also discussion about whether ethical food claims like fair trade, organic, and locally produced might influence peoples perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first point in the article is that if there is the word organic or fair trade on the product it affects how healthy a person perceives the product to be. I agree with this point because I am one of those people, I am more likely to buy a product if it has organic or fair trade on the label because I assume it is healthier. When I see this on the label I think low fat or low calories. However, there are other factors that can influence the likely hood of a person choosing a product and thinking it is healthy, like emoticons. A person is more likely to avoid a product if there is a unhappy face emoticon on the label(Vasiljevic et al. 7). The second point is that people are more likely to think a product has higher calories or lower calories depending on whether a company treats its employees fairly or not. To me this point depends on how informed the person is about products and companies. Many people are not really informed about how companies treat their employees, especially when companies only allow the public to see what they want us to see. The study was only conducted on people who had strong ethical food values but what about people who do not have strong ethical food values. That is why labels are so important it determines if a person perceives the product as unhealthy or healthy, but as discussed in class even food labels can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The For Breast Cancer Action Pinkwashing is the systematic marketing of products with pink ribbons or other pink motifs within brand design, which gives the appearance of the company s intention to give some part of the profit towards breast cancer causes. Ironically, the money made from this marketing will often not significantly benefit somebody with breast cancer. The pink ribbon was originally created by the Susan G Komen foundation yet anybody can use this symbol, because there is no intellectual copyright on it. Pinkwashing is term was first coined by the organization called breast cancer action, whose mission is to Breast Cancer Action s mission is to achieve health justice for all women at risk of and living with breast cancer (Breast Cancer Action 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be attributed to excessive pinkwashing of everyday products in our economy, because they indicate that cultural attitudes surrounding breast cancer are susceptible towards politically biases in medical treatment. Breast cancer is a particular social issue that has had an incredible amount of bias affecting how the medical community addresses solving it, and much of it can be seen surrounding the dialogue around pinkwashing products. Treatment for chronic diseases in modern medicine tends to be an expensive endeavor for patients, and thus difficult to access for many. One would think that the huge financial resources generated by selling trendy pink products would assist in covering for these treatments, but there is not much proof that this happens. There are numerous reasons why this money may not be reaching women. One reason is that there might be a cap on the companies donations (Truesdale and Lopez 9). This means that no matter how many items that have the branded pink on them are sold, the company has already set aside a certain amount of money to donate towards their selected charity. Any access amount of money generated from selling the pink item will not be included in the donation. Ralph Waldo Emerson s By The Mountain By the Mountain All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen Ralph Waldo Emerson My residence sinks demurely into the margin of Mt. My mindset is restraining me tightly, its arms curled around my waist. Even though I know it is a natural human instinct to fear for the unknown, my conscience yearns for freedom. The next day, I had broken away from the chains and took a step out onto the bare land as the glowing sun bloomed from the villages. • 10. My Papa s Waltz Analysis Essay My Papa s Waltz is a short poem written by a man by the name of Theodore Roethke. The poem is narrated to us by a young boy, presumably similar to Roethke himself, and is directed towards the young boy s father. This poem talks about his father s over use of the substance alcohol, particularly whiskey, and some of the actions the father does in front of the young boy while he is intoxicated. The tone of the poem is sort of dark and critical, understandably. Each line holds a particular type of meaning and together tells a little story. The title of the poem, My Papa s Waltz, can suggest that the poem is narrated by the father s son. At the beginning of the poem Roethke writes, The whiskey on your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy (1 2). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In line thirteen the use of the word beat may not be so literal towards physical actions. It could easily be referring to a musical type of beat, instead of a physical beating, since the father and son are dancing after all. The word beat itself, as well as line fourteen, can remind the reader that the father is still a tough man, despite being silly and dancing the Waltz with his young son. The last two lines of the poem state: Then waltzed me off to bed / Still clinging to your shirt (15 16). The father has now decided to end the dance by taking his son on to bed, and it could possibly be assumed the only reason they danced to begin with was to tire the young boy out a little so he could sleep well that night. By the end, the boy is still clinging onto his father s shirt. Even after the boy had been scraped up a little during the dance, he is still clinging onto the shirt. According to a research paper written by Martin Lindstrom, Branding is all about building emotional ties between consumer and product. (pg. 85) Emotional connections are made with the synergy of all five senses, and such those brands that are communicating from a multi sensory brand platform have the greatest likelihood of forming emotional connections between consumers and their product. (pg. 84); Food and Beverage companies exploit this fact to sell their products. Consider the Kellogg s breakfast cereal that goes snap, crackle, and pop: Rice Crispies. Researchers at a specialized Danish laboratories worked to create the particular sound and feel of the crunch was identifiably Kellogg s. (pg. 85). The crunch, smell, and taste, of the cereal is accompanied by the tactile feel in your mouth pairing all five senses into one bite. Without the simultaneous stimulation of multiple sensory receptors, however, the cereal would not be as memorable. Take watching a scary movie for example. Visuals paired with audio make for a very scary movie, but if you turn the audio off, suddenly the movie isn t so scary anymore. • 13. The Total Number Of Valid Sudoku Grids The Total Number of Valid Sudoku Grids Introduction Sudoku s roots can be traced back to 1780 s Switzerland, when Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler developed Latin Squares the concept of arranging symbols within a grid such that each symbol would appear only once in each row or column which is the basis of Sudoku. Thus, most would attribute the invention of Sudoku to Switzerland, even though the puzzle s name consists of two Japanese characters: su (which means number ) and doku (which means single ). I, along with many others around the world, enjoy the challenge that Sudoku puzzles present, and have done so since I was about twelve years old. I have always taken for granted the apparently random amount and placement of given numbers for each particular puzzle, and never wondered why or how I solved the puzzle each time; until now, that is. The aim of this exploration is to to find the number of distinct Sudoku grids. Understanding the Rules of Sudoku The format of a Sudoku puzzle is a nine by nine grid with at least seventeen givens, or cells that are already occupied by numbers that are known to be correct. The grid is subdivided into nine three by three blocks, nine rows, and nine columns, as Figures 1, 2, and 3 respectively demonstrate below: Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Each block can be further divided into cells as shown in Figure 4: Figure 4 Each cell has a neighborhood, which includes the block, row, and column specific to a ... Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but 3rd grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band students (including me) had thought they were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the world. Of course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less professionals. And this leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We could not call it the Christmas concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95% of the kids were Christian/White and most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far, we screwed it up. By the end, none of the parents watching could tell the difference between the song and the squeaks that were over powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came up to each of their sweet little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said, You guys sounded like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it. Their inner thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM NOT MAD! The first people to create nuclear weapons were the scientist at the Manhattan project. Although the texts do not contain any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not mention any homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described within the competition for Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. But the pressures of rising unemployment rates, congested cities, a crippled healthcare system, and national debt skyrocketing out of control have caused America to defend her borders against the influx of immigrants that threaten her already ailing economy. This mindset tends to discourage assimilation into mainstream American communities and promote instead the tendency of these families to cluster into small, ethnically concentrated barrios, or neighborhoods. Within these barrios, the culture and lifestyle of Mexico is recreated, which often reinforces psychological and physical isolation from mainstream American culture. Learning about a different culture is something I did with my own experiences. Having done this, I see culture as civilizations having their own look on life individually. With culture being practices and knowledge held by groups in certain areas, I have witnessed this in person. My youth group was going on an international mission trip, and I had the possibility to go to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of 85 essays written by John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist Papers. (Henretta, Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of uncertainty, when a new nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever done, set up a government of the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were influential, well written and published at a juncture in history where they were needed the most. The Federalists Papers were instrumental to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps some of the most important documents in U.S. national history for without the Federalists Papers, our constitution and nation would not be what they are today. Hume is a man of logic, who believes in experience over knowledge. Of course it is hard for such a man to believe in extraordinary claims without being there to witness them. Especially when such events require a lot of faith. In order for an event to be deemed a miracle, it must disobey the laws of nature. He then goes on to say that at no time has there been any miracle attested by a sufficient number of men of such unquestioned good sense, education, and learning, as to secure us against all delusion in themselves #8230; (pg. 674, col.2). His point being that no scholar would ever back such an obsurd story because of the risk of being ridiculed by his piers. Some of the things that these people have reported as marvelous are common among later generations, so their mysteriousness has been lost and they are no longer miracles. The play was put on by Performance Network Theatre in Ann Arbor, Michigan directed by David Wolber. I saw this play because I remembered performing in the space before with Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and I had never heard of Other Desert Cities before. Other Desert Cities was an amazing play to watch. This well directed drama will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire performance. There were only five character s and all are worth noting: Sandra Birch (Silda) the recovering alcoholic who just got out of rehab who is also Polly s sister, Bryan Lark (Trip) the youngest child, family referee and TV producer, Hugh Maguire (Lyman), father, husband to Polly, ex film star and now diplomat, Lea Smith (Brooke) the depressed daughter who carries an immense amount of hatred for her parents and failed writer. Lastly, Naz Edwards (Polly) a mother, wife, an old Hollywood screenwriter and a person who has had to be strong for a long time which comes off as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the actors were believable and had great articulation and volume. Each character was great but there were only two who stood out from among the rest, Naz Edwards and Bryan Lark. Naz never lost her character. She stayed committed throughout her entire performance. The amount of dedication she gives to her craft is amazing and it shows throughout the play. Naz Edwards is a New York actress. She has performed on and off Broadway, in tours and regionally across the United States and Canada. Naz had arguably the hardest role in the entire play. She never cracked a smile, or never allowed her face to show any sympathy for anyone else. Bryan Lark, an up and coming actor gave the audience much needed laughter throughout the play. With this being only his second play with the Performance Network Theatre he did a fantastic job. Bryan and Naz were great assets to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Issue Of Reproductive Rights The topic of reproductive rights surrounding women in Texas has been a hot buttoned issue since the closing of many reproductive centers across the state. Recently damaging abortion restrictions were passed and therefor encroach on women s reproductive rights even more by decreasing access to abortion care. Texas 84th Legislature, both passed HB 3994 as a law and had it Governor Abbott make it effective with his signature on July 8, or this year. This law complicates access to abortion services for mistreated and neglected minors and for those who do not possess specific identification cards in Texas. Specifically HB 3994 has four requirements of the bill that would explicitly hinder Latina minors. The first provision it that the bill will make it harder for a minor to demonstrate that she needs a judge to approve her for an abortion because the level of evidence that the minor must acquire is much more encompassing. Secondly, it revises the requirement that a judges rule must be made immediately, expanding the decision time from two days to five and prolonging the process. The third provision withdrawals the requirement that in the case the judge cannot make an immediate rule, then the minor s case was automatically granted. This third provision along with the extension of the ruling time, could lead to a number of rules not being made and to the possibility of the minor s application being denied. Fourthly, the new bill brings limits on who can have their appeals heard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax). The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like most of the definitions, the interpretation of success varies with the people s perception so it is rather impossible to understand success in a simple way. In the present era, most of the people relate success with the materialistic achievements such as wealth, power and fame while some prefer to evaluate success by assessing the contribution of the person to the society. The nature of the iterations will not necessarily change much; but the longevity of the software produced will certainly increase. Early iterations (usually in the inception phase) have a tendency to be thrown out. During elaboration, you will discover the rest of the use cases (or at least their first approximations) and will implement the minimal set. During construction, users will drive towards giving the customer the minimum system that they need. The nature of the iterations will not change much, but your focus will be on identifying the smallest possible deliverable that will still meet at least some of the customers needs. During construction, the use cases will change a bit as the customer sees the growing system and feeds changes back to you. During transition, users will drive towards fleshing out the functionality of the system, and incorporating the mounds of customer feedback that users are surely to get. The nature of your iterations will not change much. During transition, the use cases are likely to undergo drastic changes as the customers actually use the system and realize that it is not exactly what they needed. • 37. The Rights And Nation By Gerald Friesen Essay In his book, Citizens and Nation, Gerald Friesen first mentions the concept of imagined communities as he states, Space had been restructured because the communication media had eliminated so many of the inherited constraints of physical existence (Friesen 177). Thus, for Friesen, an imagined community is constructed as communication technologies connect individuals across geographical boundaries, therefore releasing the limitations of space. While Friesen s definition implies that a technological intermediary is needed for the formation of imagined relations, his work, Citizens and Nation works to prove that communities that are based on something other than face to face communication, can, without technology, also be considered imagined . Moreover, using, Oral Traditional and Screen Capitalist societies, two distinct time space configurations, this essay will demonstrate how throughout history, the concept of Imagined Communities differed in its effect and prevalence in Canadian life. To begin, an analysis of Oral Traditional societies will work demonstrate that while per literate communities were predominantly traditional, their connection to the land cultivated an imagined community . Prior to the invention of print, Canadian aboriginals lived in an oral society where the spoken word was the dominant form of communication. • 38. The Early Phases and Globalization of Coffee Essay A commodity is a raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold. The market treats it as equipment or nearly so with no regard to who produced it. The original producer does not make the big money from the good that has become a commodity demanded by consumers. A commodity s supply and demand is part of one universal market like corn, or wheat. A stereo is something that would not be considered a commodity. Other things are important about a stereo not that it is just a stereo but what brand and quality is in consideration when purchasing a stereo. Demand for one type might be much larger than the demand for another. This is not the case with commodities; they lose differentiation across their supply base. An ... This made it very hard to determine the true value of a sack of grain, this apparent in coffee as well. We can understand the relation between commodity and trade development through the study of coffee and it s origins. Over about 90% of coffee is produced in the South, and consumed in the North. Or a long time Latin America has provided most of the world s coffee. Coffee comes from a cherry produced by a tree that requires a warm climate without any sudden temperature shifts or frost and it needs plenty of rain. This climate is ideal for coffee between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. During the movement of coffee from harvest to export the first step is to separate the coffee bean from the skin and the pulp of the cherry, this results in what is called green coffee. Before it is exported the coffee is cleaned and sorted into lots that have different quality attributes, something like the grain elevators. The lots vary as they go from country to country based on the size, the shape shape and the deficiencies it might have or the way it is processed. At this point in the process the coffee still has it s individual quality and value. Coffee is then sent to roasting facilities where it is blended. By manipulating the composition of the blend, roasters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, food industry is interested in analytical methods which can provide low cost, fast, precise, and non destructive analysis on product quality (Gowen et al., 2007). The researches on non destructive food quality analyzing technologies have gain significant amount of interests (Chen et al., 2013; Lind and Murhed, 2012). Machine vision, as a novel non destructive analyzing technology, has been widely studied and employed in various industries (Davies, 2012). It can be applied to inspect raw materials or products during manufacturing (Davies, 2013). Recently the applications of machine vision in food industry are increasing rapidly since the developments in camera technology and the processing power of computer hardware (Chen et al., 2013). Machine vision technology has many advantages such as improving quality, increasing throughput, reducing waste, and reducing labor (Lind and Murhed, 2012). Generally, machine vision system includes image acquisition section and image processing statistical pattern recognition section (Davies, 2013). Essay On Social Play Play Play is important for school functioning as it enables Amelia to connect with peers at kindergarten while learning social and communication skills (Rigby Rodger, 2006). Direct observation of Amelia s free play was conducted in the back garden and the Test of Playfulness (ToP; Bundy et al., 2001) was adopted to examine her degree of playfulness. Amelia participated in different types of game that predominate in the play of 0 to 7 year olds (Takata, 1974), including riding bicycle (sensorimotor), making phone calls (functional) and playing doctor (dramatic). Furthermore, Amelia s play would be supervised by her teachers at kindergarten, imposing boundaries that limit play activities. Regarding the nonhuman environment, the objects seemed to support Amelia s play. The amount and configuration of space in the garden was physically safe and supportive of play.
