Minnesota Machinery Museum Essay
Minnesota s Machinery Museum
On July, 21st, 2015 my grandfather and I visited the Minnesota Machinery Museum. The Museum is
located at 100 North 1st, 1st Avenue West, Hanley Falls, Minnesota 56245. Their phone number is
(507) 768 3522. The hours are May through September, Monday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00
PM and Sundays 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
The machinery museum contains four large buildings with exhibits inside of them, and a sixth for
storage. The Museum grounds are roughly six acres. The exhibits include Minnesota s largest
collection of agricultural equipment, and smaller exhibits to show how farm life has changed over the
century.
The exhibits include the old school building built in 1939, which is where the main office is located.
Next there is a horse room, the horse room is devoted to old farming implements and the horses which

The general store focuses on three main items. The adding machine, from Barge s B and B dry goods
store, a national cash register, and a set of rubber stamps for pricing the groceries and dry good items,
from S.E. Aaberg and Company. There is even a recipe for washing clothes .
Outside the high school there is a large machine shed full of tractors. The oldest machine in the
building is a 1912 Minneapolis Moline, the engine of this tractor was ran off Kerosene. The second
oldest tractor is a 1913 Avery, This tractor is used annually in the Hanley Falls thrashing show. This
tractor was still in use during World War II, one of the few not scrapped.
The next machine shed is full of vehicles. The oldest automobile in the shed is a 1925 Olson and
Johnson company truck, which is used regularly in parades to advertise the museum. Next is a 1931
Chevy car with a built in buzz saw because its owner did custom carpentry work. Then a 1932

social class, sexual orientation and race did not have any effect who his family supports, they believed
everyone everybody deserved to be treated equal and have equal rights. CJC, being the only girl and
the youngest child in her family she was used to getting her way and was often spoiled. She says, like
most people who are the only girl in the family, she was toughened up by her older brother, who
would tease and pick on her growing up. She knew early on what she wanted from life and growing
up the way she did gave her that skill she needed for life to do so. BJC is the oldest in his family. He is
one of three boys. BJC considers himself a leader today and attributes that to being the oldest brother

CJC s parents live fairly close to her. Her family has always been close so they all enjoy living close to
each other. She enjoys spending time with her mother, who she loves seeing when she isn t working
and has the day off. CJC s brother lives in the same town as her, but unfortunately doesn t see him as
often as she would like. They both live such separate lives so it s hard to get together most of the time.
She loves talking to her mother about situations that are bothering her so if BJC isn t available her
mother is there to talk and give advice best she can regarding the situation. BJC s father lives roughly
two hours from him, with the drive being that long, they don t get to see each other as often as they
would like, those times they get to see each other are mainly holidays. One of BJC s main goals is to
get over to see him dad more often but with the hectic life of his family and his job, that just isn t
possible right now. BJC s mother died in 2008. With growing up so close to his brothers, having them
not live close to him has taken an impact on his life. He supports the choices they have made in their
lives to chase their dreams even if that means he doesn t get to see them often. All three families have
children around the same ages, so they feel for each other and their problems, allowing them to give
advice and listen when needed. He strives to maintain a close relationship with his brothers even with
them being so far away by staying in contact with them through phone calls and text messages, giving

Argumentative Essay On Wicca
To understand the great right, you first have to understand that Wicca is a fertility religion. The
founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner explains Wicca as a very ancient ritualistic religion based on
survival. This rite is more closely based on the ritual of Beltane. During the Beltane rites the high
priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned god)
into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick where
we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly thought the
great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its much more about
fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the gods through ritual.
Praying for fertility to the earth, animals and plants. Author Vivianne Crowley says in Wicca: The Old
Religion in the New Age, The outer rite involves a linking of the male and the female; the sacred
marriage is outwardly a marriage of two people, but inwardly it is a marriage of the two within one
person. The Great Rite is more than just a sexual union; it is the enactment of the creation of the
universe itself in the Wiccan tradition. In modern Wicca, many practioners can and will use sex in
ritual but this is more often than not used in personal practice. When a man and woman are both
practices of the faith and perform rituals together this is an acceptable way to end the

Project And Change Management Perspective
Crowdsourcing: Project and Change Management Perspective
Abstract:
Recently crowdsourcing web based applications have gain popularity due to public support and
representation. Crowdsourcing mechanisms such as Amazon s Mechanical Turk and other related
applications have been routinely used in machine learning applications. Crowdsourcing deployment
and management are really demanding and challenging due to the nature of crowd projects. Managers
play a significant role in the success of the project. Hence, this research study investigates the project
and change management practices and perceptions in the crowdsourcing settings.

both on project management and change management perspective. Hence, as a project manager for an
organization the following issues will be reviewed and discussed in detail, which include:
Through investigation of benefits and risks associated with crowdsourcing before its use
Challenges facing the crowdsourcing for outsourcing applications
Advantages and risk assessment of usage of crowdsourcing from the change and project management
perspective
SWOT analysis of crowdsourcing applications as a management (project management and change

Literature review:
Crowdsourcing is an online distributed and problem solving web based model. In recent years,
crowdsourcing has gain popularity due to its structure and the way it is operating. By crowdsourcing
enterprises and major companies benefit hugely in terms of innovation and creativity (Brabham 2008;

Preventing Elderly Falls
Goal: Post about preventing falls for seniors Total words in document: Title: How to Avoid The Slip,
Trip, and Fall Slips and falls are the leading cause of unintentional deaths for seniors. They can also
cause serious injury, which can mean time away from the home to rehabilitate. This is often
distressing for both seniors and family members. It is important to fall proof the home as much as
possible. Install grab bars These are especially essential in the shower where slips are most likely to
happen due to wet conditions. It is a good idea to have them around the toilet as well, since this up and
down movement is often difficult for seniors. Adjust height Consider changing the height of things

Polished wood and tile floors are a slip hazard. Make sure that flooring has enough resistance to
prevent slipping. Carpeting is ideal, but non slip mats are also a good choice for bathrooms and
kitchens. Just be careful of transitions that might be a trip hazard. Remove trip hazards Trip hazards

The Effects Of Manic Depression On My Undergraduate Majors...
Mom is in the hospital again, my father said to me over the phone one evening this past April. Having
spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal ideation, my
father s phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I received this
call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was her third suicide
attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how to help her.
My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of the
curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health, all of
which taught me a great deal about mental illness. Book knowledge in hand, I then applied myself to
hands on training through multiple internships during college and a full time job as a psychiatric
counselor after graduating in 2014.
In 2011 and 2013, I had two summer internships with Cornerstone Montgomery: the first working in
the Life Skills Program, and the second working in their 24 hour crisis residential facility. While
working in the Life Skills Program, I fostered my interest in working with those who suffer from
severe and persistent mental illness. I taught my clients skills needed for rehabilitation including
eating healthy on a budget, basic computer skills, and medication management. When I returned to
Cornerstone Montgomery in 2013, they asked me to intern in

John Lennon Accomplishments
John Lennon s life as a Beatle began when he was 20 years old, and even though the band may have
broken up, his love for music never died. Along with being a music lover, he was a large peace
activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going to
different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change the
way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennon s career, he and Ono dedicated a large portion
of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth. Overall, John
Lennon was a peace activist through his musical career and used his fame to draw attention to his
beliefs.
First off, Lennon had many successful pieces of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After him and his wife Yoko Ono were married, they took their two week honeymoon at the
presidential suite at the Hilton Amsterdam on March 25, 1969. Lennon referred to this protest as his
Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day to
observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace
movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than Lennon
and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas, prepared to talk
about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of protesting, was also the
time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace a Chance, which, as said
before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of people might look at the idea of
sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace remains undoubtedly silly, the couple
admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this were any ordinary people, it would not
have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since John Lennon was previously a very well
known musician, he was able to use his fame to his advantage. This allowed him to lure in the
paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted unfair conditions unlike anyone else, due to his
fame from being a member of the

Philippines Imperialism
Imperialism is when one powerful nation dominates a weaker nation. Nations should not imperialize
others and they are many reasons why, that are shown in history. The first reason is imperialism causes
a hostile environment between the nation imperializing and the nation being imperialized. Next, the
negative outcomes outweigh the positive. In other words, when there is little good that comes out of
expanding one nation, why would a nation take that risk? Lastly, Ethnocentrism is one of the effects of
imperialism. Ethnocentrism is judging another culture based on the standards of their own culture.
There are so many cultures coexisting so how can nations tell cultures that their belief is wrong and
should practice their culture. Imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethnocentrism is judging distant cultures based on the standards of your own. Imperialist nations
believe that they are superior races and culture. The White Man s Burden provides more insight on the
perspective of those imperialist nations ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S.
Imperialism ). To serve your captives need; to wait in heavy harness, on fluttered folk and wild your
new caught, sullen peoples, half devil and half child said Kipling ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling
s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). This quote means it is believed that the white man s burden or
responsibility is to imperialize, civilize, and Christianize these other nations. For instance, African
American were seen as the unfit and they needed to be civilized. Racism is when races are considered
inferior to another race because of assumptions made. When you consider another race unfit, you are
basing it off your own culture s differences therefore creating racism (Rashid, Aatif). Furthermore
inequality is caused by those superior nations . These superior nations put themselves on a high
pedestal resulting in the belief they are better than anyone else. Ethnocentrism is cause by imperialism
and can sometimes be the motivation behind imperialism. Inequality is then an effect of those nations
or races that believe they are better than

Malaria Is A Disease Of The Poor
Would a country free of malaria still be just as poor? Malaria is frequently referred to as a disease of
the poor. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where malaria carrying
mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living things called
Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the person s blood. They
live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live from the cells, which
kill the cells (Britannica). Malaria is one of the most serious health problems facing the world today.
The World Health Organization estimates that over 300 million new cases of malaria arise a year, with
approximately two to three million deaths resulting from
Life cycle of the human malaria parasite. contraction. (Carrington).
Mainly I chose Malaria as my research topic because I love learning about parasites and their
behavior. Also I chose it because it is a common disease in Sri Lanka, which is where I come from and
also because one of my best friends died from malaria. I want to know why malaria mostly spread in
poor countries such as Africa, India, and Peru. Another reason I chose malaria as my topic because
one day I want to become a doctor and help people live in poor countries.
Before the research I knew malaria is a disease which occurs mostly in poor, tropical and subtropical
areas of the world. I also knew people get malaria by being bitten by an infective mosquito.

Swinburne s Rebuttal To The Substantial Problem Of Evil In...
I posit that God if [He] does exist is ageless, timeless, omniscient, and omnipresent insofar as He
exists in a dimension outside time and three dimensional space. Because of that, and given the limits
of epistemic accessibility, it seems rather impossible to say with certainty what about God is
objectively true. In fact, to say anything more than that outside of what is possibly or probably the
case concerning God, is akin to poetry, a series of metaphors characterizing a hyper dimensional
being. In fact, it seems odd to attach a gender to the Divine, much less an anthropomorphic form with
such certainty. From hereafter, I propose that we refer to God as either an It or, if one felt so inclined,
seeing as only a mother could incubate life prior to birth, I propose ... Show more content on

Thereafter, I will attempt to show the falseness of each view in two ways. First, I will present my
theory of knowledge that is currently under development, and which intuits with the limits of human
three dimensional perception. Given the early stages of my developing epistemic theory, I shall enlist
the help of an established epistemic tool in Stephen Wykstra s Condition of Reasonable Epistemic
Access (CORNEA), a principle that intends to serve as an answer to both Rowe and Swinburne, albeit
mostly the latter. Finally, I will briefly explicate a multiverse solution to the problem of evil whereby I
will attempt to show how a multiverse could on appearances satisfy the conditions set by both the
theist and the atheist in a manner that is conceivable by both able to be understood by the intellect as
well as the senses so as to serve as an anti metaphor. In fact, I aim to show that my prima facie
proposal for a multiverse theodicy could give at least prima facie satisfaction to Richard Swinburne s

Joseph Campbell Definition Of A Hero
A hero is someone who has given her or his life to something bigger than oneself. A quote from
Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is someone
who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That s my representative of that quote.
Something that makes a hero or a function is they have to step out of their ordinary life. A hero usually
steps out of his or her ordinary life to do something or to give something up for something bigger.
They have to step out and do something out of the ordinary for them. A hero is people who buy

Theme Of Adolescence In The Outsiders
The Outsiders (essay)
The differences between adolescence and adolescent experiences are portrayed in the film The
Outsiders (1983), by Francis Ford Coppola and Clueless (1995), by Amy Heckerling. Coppola uses
visual and verbal techniques such as music, camera angles and sounds to show the friendship between
Johnny and Ponyboy and also depicts the meaning of adolescence.
The notion of adolescence is strengthened and enriched through the film The Outsiders (1983), by
Francis Ford Coppola. The symbolic imagery of the sunrise and sunset symbolises the unity and
connection of the group, this is reinforced in the scene when Ponyboy connects with Cherry at the
cinemas. The greased hair sported by the members of the Greaser gang is perhaps the most potent
symbol in the film. The symbolism of the well groomed hair reflects their wealth and clean cut
upbringing this is reiterated through the Greaser gang has longer, greased hair to reflect their pride in
being from the wrong side of the tracks. For Greasers, long greased hair symbolizes their toughness,
pride in where they come from, and their affiliation with their gang. Above all, the greased hair
symbolizes the boys kinship with one another this also depicts the idea of adolscence. In the long shot
of Johnny and Ponyboy running away to the abandoned church, they cut their hair to disguise
themselves. Ponyboy is not happy about having to change his appearance, and when he returns to the
neighborhood, the other gang members

Peter Pan Motherhood
The novel Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie illustrates how Peter Pan, an aggressive
adolescent, attempts the abduction of younger male children in order to bring them to his
magical island called Neverland. These young males then serve him and serve on
expeditions and as soldiers in a youthful gang. In an unusual phenomenon, Mr. Pan brings
Wendy, a young female, to his island in order that she might tell him and his lost boys about
the tale of Cinderella and to be their mother. In chapter 6, readers observe that Peter Pan is
extremely protective of Wendy, even to the point of staying awake on guard at night. At the

tuck us in at night, [said he] And you could darn our clothes and make pockets for us. None
of us has any pockets. (42). Peter emphasis that the boys need a mother to work for them.
However, Peter himself is too slothful to learn how to sew and too proud to tuck his own
children into bed. Mr. Pan s selfishness controls his actions which then influence his
compassion. In these minute instances, we can see his true character and his true adoration
show. Towards the end of the novel, Peter returns only once to Wendy after she left
Neverland. This may be because he has realized that she no longer cares to serve him as
she once did. She will no longer be his mother, rather a friend. This does not please him, and
he returns once after, to steal Jean, Wendy s daughter, as a new mother. Peter Pan s
ignorance and cruel leadership is a sign that he does not care for Wendy as a person, rather
as a product or as something to aid him. Mr. Pan sees Wendy beneficial for story telling, for
being his mother, and for serving him. In Peter Pan, readers are shown the cruelty that an
innocent child can impact upon a multitude of fellow

The Pros And Cons Of The New York Diet
The New York Diet is quickly gaining popularity in a world where fad diets overpower the concept of
good nutrition and exercise. David Kirsch, a celebrity trainer, has recently developed the New York
diet. This is a fairly strict diet based on the emphasis of eating and living a low carbohydrate lifestyle.
The New York diet is based heavily around the concept of cutting sugar and non essential fats out of
one s diet. This diet tries to completely cut all sweets such as soda, candy, sugar, and even fruit. It also
targets unhealthy beverages such as alcohol and coffee. Another emphasis, that may be puzzling to
some, is the complete elimination of Dairy foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt in most cases.

In early and mid adulthood, many adults need to begin thinking about their brain health and ways in
which we can make natural improvements with diet, exercise, and other healthy lifestyle choices. If
you have a family history of disorders associated with low levels of dopamine, you may want to
consider how you can naturally increase dopamine levels in your own body to help improve your
aging outcomes. As a neurotransmitter in the brain, dopamine is vital to our memory, cognitive
function, and even to our voluntary movement capabilities. While we can not directly increase
dopamine naturally, there are specific steps we can take to help our bodies boost the production of
dopamine more effectively. Eating foods, for example, that are rich in tyrosine is one way in which we
help to provide our bodies with the precursors need to naturally create dopamine for use in the days
and weeks to come. If are looking for ways in which to naturally increase dopamine levels in your
body, consider eating diets that are right in meats, cheese, and even in soy based products as all of
these foods contain high levels of tyrosine that will provide your body with the foundation on which to
boost dopamine levels. Of course, if you have food intolerance to any of these items, and especially if
you suffer from contraindicated health conditions, then do not make these consumptions unless you
have discussed them first with your primary

Pride And Prejudice Music Analysis
Pride Prejudice, the quintessential classic that has inspired countless iterations, returned to film in
2005 with fresh faces Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen as protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and
Mr. Darcy. Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for an Oscar
in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among
other awards. If Marianelli and director Joe Wright s objective was to evoke music of the time period,
they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels and the
era in which Pride Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is
also enhanced by the music. This paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of
Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie s theme is a recurring element that plots their relationship
from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of Darcy s Letter , present in a number
of scenes, helps to depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing
of Lizzie s theme also offers an interesting look into the social classes of the time and how they
affected relationships. The most frequently occurring music in Pride Prejudice is Lizzie s theme.
During the opening sequence, a bright morning is shown as birds chirp. Soft piano is heard pulsing
and Lizzie walks on screen reading a book. The tempo hastens slightly as Lizzie

Water And Its Effects On Our Lives And The Health Of Our...
The commodification of water throughout history has had substantial impacts the way we live our
lives and the health of our nation. Initially effluents from towns, various types of mills, and tanneries
were channeled to the nearest waterway to be carried downstream and away from the pollution source.
This theory of dilution is the solution to pollution worked for a little while but as population grew and
the demand for freshwater for humans consumption increased as well Americans learn quickly that
this theory was incorrect. The change of heart on this method was highlighted in a court case in New

conditions along the Hudson River did not require any chemical testing to confirm the volume of

The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste
The Rotten Damage of Food Waste
Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because
somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how
serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where
roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000
people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it
s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the
sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more
depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children.
The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can
someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if
the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s
no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own
family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than
likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around
while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars.

Business Models Of Priceline And Greentoe

There are lots of business models that are used in our society today, such as: Product Service
Customization, Online Auctions, Group Purchasing, Affiliate Marketing, Find The Best Price, Name

Compare And Contrast The Santa Ana And Brush Fire
Different Things
People can look at the same situations and see different things. In Brush Fire by Linda Thomas and
The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, both writers are writing about the same situation however, the texts are
both vastly different. Both essays are written about the Santa Ana winds, which is a wind that blows
through both southern and northern California. The message of Brush Fire by Linda Thomas is that
the Santa Ana winds are more of an event that happens yearly that causes many great effects on the
earth that outway the bad. Nevertheless, in The Santa Ana by Joan Didion the message is that the
Santa Ana is a horrid occurrence that happens each year that only brings a string of negative effects
with it. The writers take a completely different approach, trying to describe the subject. The author s
writing style divert from each other through the use of style elements, rhetorical and literary devices,
as well as rhetorical appeals.
The Santa Ana and Brush Fire have several similarities and differences in style elements. The Santa
Ana and Brush Fire differ in the use of syntax. In The Santa Ana, Didion uses more complex syntax
with longer sentences and the text overall is longer. Dissimilar from Brush Fire, in which Thomas uses
a simpler syntax that has much shorter and concise sentences. The Santa Ana also uses antithesis
repeatedly, which establishes a juxtaposition, this shows the good and bad of the situation. Thomas s
sentences are shorter and more fact based which gets more to the point faster and shorter. However,
Didion s sentences are longer and more opinion and has a more personal feel than, Brush Fire. The
diction in The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ vastly. Thomas uses a more dark diction uses words
like words like murder, suicide, and depression. Unlike, Didion who has a more reflective diction and
uses words like return , will be , new , and cancels out . Both The Santa Ana and Brush Fire use a
heavy use of imagery. In The Santa Ana Didion not only describes the Santa Ana winds, but also
describes other winds that are similar. Didion compares the winds to show the negative effects that
both winds have on the people. An example of this is The Santa Ana,which is named for one

Honey Bees And Its Effects On Bees
Bees are a vital source to most of the daily products that we use today. From the food we eat, to the
trees outside. Without them, there will be no greenery or some of our favorite foods. That is why it is
necessary to protect their well being. Therefore multiple solutions have been recommended to
preserve their existence, in healthy and efficient environments.
Recently, studies are showing a dramatic decrease of the bee population. As a result, there have been
fewer instances of the great pollination process performed by the bees, therefore affecting the food and
produce whose growth process are dependant on the bees. Honey bees originally came from Europe,
but the problem of the decreasing population became known after Pollination Week declared by the
senate and governors on June 22nd. The reasoning behind the lack of bees on agriculture farms, is due
to the harmful pesticide spray. Denied access to neonics, farmers will inevitably revert to spraying
their fields either from the ground or by plane with older and more dangerous insecticides (Rodgers
Media 6). Furthermore, because there are fewer pollinators, the food they help flourish have become a
worry to researchers. The world would be a desolate place without our pollinating friends, devoid of
flowers, flowering plants and many of our favorite foods (Hannon Gerald 9). Implies the importance
of the bees handiwork in the production of the produce that we eat. Although it is costly in order to
transport the

Behold The Dreamers Analysis
I don t like what my life has become in this country. I don t know how long I can continue living like
this, Neni. The suffering in Limbe was bad, but this one here, right now...it s more than I can take.
Neni . Behold the Dreamers is a great representation of some of the struggles held in the everyday
lives of Americans. Neni and Jende were immigrants who came to seek their dreams, but were held to
it due the lack of money they had. The Edwards had been living the American Dream, yet they had
their own problems of wanting more. My parents are immigrants themselves, and I relate the same
struggles as the Jongas do. My parents came to America to seek the same dreams as Neni and Jende,
but realize that it couldn t be reached with the education

The Impact Of Corruption In Mexico
Mexico is the eleventh most populated country in the world with a $2.2 trillion economy (CIA, 2017).
It is also an extremely popular tourist destination for Americans and Europeans alike. Moreover, its
people have had the highest average annual hours worked in the world every year for the last three
years (OECD, 2017). Despite this, their unemployment rate is estimated to be 3.6% and their
underemployment at 25% (CIA, 2017). I am going to expand on this country s issues with corruption,
organized crime, violence, the economy, and how I assess their future will affects us here in the United
States.
Like many countries in turmoil, corruption is and has been a big part of Mexico s political scene,
especially with domestic criminal organizations such as the drug cartels. Mexico s politicians have not
only stolen public funds but they have also made complicit agreements with multiple drug cartels.
Mexico ranks No. 123 in Transparency International s 2016 Corruption Perception Index, 25 spots
lower than the year before. Analysts say it s unclear whether corruption has gotten worse or has
merely become more visible because of transparency laws, journalists increasingly uncovering graft
and social media exposing politicians excesses (Agren, 2017). In recent years there have been multiple
Mexican politicians prosecuted and arrested due to their illegal dealings but the cycle just continues
with their successors. Take Javier Duarte for example, who was the governor of Veracruz State from
2010 to 2016 and managed to steal $3 billion from public funds meanwhile violence spread
throughout the state. The violence was so severe that mass graves with 250 skulls were discovered and
at least 17 journalists were murdered during his tenure (Agren, 2017). Additionally, the two former
Tamaulipas State governors were both indicted for their involvement in illicit activities. The former
governor, Tomás Yarrington, was accused of taking bribes from both the Zetas Cartel and the Gulf
Cartel; meanwhile in 2015 his successor, Eugenio Hernández, was indicted in Texas on federal money
laundering charges (Agren, 2017).
The terrible byproduct of this was on full display a little under 3 years ago when the bodies of 43
missing students

Setting The Scene From Block Grant Based Funding
Setting the scene
Claire McCartney, research adviser at the CIPD and author of the report, comments: There seems to be
a real lack of awareness amongst senior managers, who rate the trust levels much stronger than more
junior employees. It seems they either have a tendency to view things through rose tinted glasses, or
are out of touch with how employees nearer the coalface are feeling. If senior leaders are in denial or
burying their heads in the sand, there is a danger that a them and us mentality will emerge and change
will be very difficult to achieve.
, and a transition from block grant based funding to student loan based funding of teaching has taken
place.
The past five years have been a time of significant fast paced change for Higher Education Institutions
(HEIs), with the higher education market being opened to new providers, the removal of the Student
Number Control cap and changes in student funding HEIs have needed to remain agile and adaptable.
(HEFCE, 2015)
With International students making a huge contribution to universities and the UK including boosting
the UK economy, HEIs are now required to compete in ever more challenging global markets
(HEFCE BIS grant letter 2015). HEIs recent successes have been and will continue to be vital to the
UKs future economic prospects as the country enters a period of growth. (HEFCE s annual grant letter
from BIS)
With tuition fees for UK students at £9,000 and circa £12,000 per year for international students,

Jordan Human Rights Violations
When the topic of human rights violations is brought up in regards to the Middle East, it is likely that
countries such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria are among the first to come to mind. Although Jordan
does not have nearly as many violations as the aforementioned, several civil liberties are being
consistently violated despite the country s commitment to human rights and national security. Jordan
has been one of the steadiest allies of the United States in the fight against terrorism as well as being
an advocate for creating and maintaining peace in the Middle East, but what Jordan may be applauded
for is also a cause of conflict on the human rights front. Credit must be given to Jordan for its
cooperation with the United Nations and human rights standards, being one of the most progressive in
its geographical area. It is also one of the few countries in the Middle East that extended a standing
invitation for any special procedures, which means the state will always accept requests to visit from
all special procedures, which sacrifices a significant amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jordan is hosting approximately 700,000 refugees from Syria as well as 12,000 Palestinian refugees

great in number and the efforts to care for them are underfunded by the state, therefore their conditions
are progressively worsening; children are going without education and men and women are left
unemployed and at the mercy of the state, which is violation of a number of treaties, especially the
Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The refugee crisis does not have a simple solution, and
resources are straining in Jordan where the population is nearly 6.5 million, and 700,000 additional
mouths to feed and people to provide health care for is no easy task to accomplish without negatively

Essay On Concealed Handguns
Carrying a concealed handgun in public is permitted in all 50 states as of 2013. The entire United
States has experienced an increase in CPL (Concealed Permit License) sales after mass shootings
including the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, Colorado Movie Theatre Shooting, and the mass
shooting in Oregon Community College, and mass killing spree in Virginia Tech. These incidents have
raised the bar for concealed weapons and have led to an increase of overall gun sales. Many people
say that carrying a concealed is bad however that is not true if they are used properly and for the right
reasons. People should have the right to carry a concealed handgun. First of all, there are many
advantages of carrying a concealed handgun. Concealed handguns have helped deter crime. Concealed
handguns protect people who cannot always rely on police forces for protection. Based on a 2000
analysis by John Lott that showed a decrease in murders, rapes and aggravated assaults by 8.5%, 5%
and 7%, respectively in states that allow concealed carry. Larry Craig, Chief of Police in Detroit, also
backed Lott s findings, saying that concealed weapons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is also crucial to know the locations in which it is illegal to carry a gun. Understanding the
ramifications of carry a concealed handgun is also important. Make sure that you know how to use
and carry your concealed gun properly. And how to aim, shoot or take care of it. Also general caution
such as keeping it away from children.
So in conclusion, people should have the right to carry a concealed handgun. Having a concealed
handgun it s a commitment. You have to use it for good and not misuse it. Concealed handguns are
like a double edged blade; they can be used to preserve life, or destroy life altogether. It s good to
know that most adults who legally carry a concealed gun are law abiding and do not misuse their

No Control At All By Jack
This child, lets call him, Jack. With no control at all, Jack was fortunate enough to be born into high
income country, like New Zealand Then there s, Jill. With the same amount of control as Jack, he
added to the total of 10,368 children born into poverty a day. That s one child, every 1.2 seconds Jack
has a 1 in 165 chance of dying before he s 5. Jill on the other hand is not so lucky and the odds of him
reaching his 5th birthday are 1 in 6. Everyone was born into and are living in circumstances that they
haven t chosen, it s not something we can change, we just have to live with it. It s something that has a
huge impact and often determines the direction of our lives. We can t choose whether we were born
into rich family or a poor family. We can t choose if we re black or white, male or female, disabled or
not disabled, tall or short, intelligent or not. These are things that don t fully define who we are but
they do often influence how people may see you. Imagine if someone like Kate Sheppard was born
into poverty, her fight for women s rights might not have been prioritised because she had to focus on
her own survival. And even if they that did seem important, her education would probably have been
very limited. Education for females in some third world countries is frowned upon because they don t
believe in educating women. Or what if Usain Bolt was born with cerebral palsy, affecting the part of
the brain that controls legs, we d have a new world champion sprinter.

Analysis Of The Outsiders
Do you know Dallas Winston is? Well let me tell you he is not nice. Dallas is a clod, mean, and tough
person from the gang in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Later on in the book a member of the gang,
Johnny dies from saving kids from a burning church. Also because of his bad record and personality.
This fills Dally with hate and rage. For this reason Dally goes to a store to a store and robes it.
Meeting his gang in the lot the police pull up with guns. Dally also has a gun without ammunition to
scare people, but when he pulls it out the cops shoot without hesitation. Why did Dally bluff the cops?
Well there is three reasons. His bad record, his personality, and lastly the death of Johnny. To begin
with Dally pulled the gun out so the cops would shoot him is because of his bad record. First of all,
Dally was arrested at the age of 10! This is stated in the text by S.E. Hinton on page ten Dally had
spent three days on the wild side of New York and had been arrested at the age of ten. Next, to blow
off steam when he was infuriated he would get into gang fights. This is also stated in the text on page
eleven by S.E. Hinton In New York, Dally blew off steam in gang fights, but here, organized gangs are
rarities there are just small bunches of friends who stick together, and the warfare is between the social
classes. And above all, Dally would always get drunk, ride in rodeos, lie, cheat, steal, roll drunks, and
jump little kids. This can be proven as the text states on page

The History of the Jig The Jig is an exciting, lively folk dance performed in leading musicality. The
word , Jig originated from the French word, giguer, which means to jump .The Jig was popularly
performed as a unique form of dance entertainment throughout England; commonly the Jig has a
history of being displayed in many English plays. Ireland and Scotland took the Jig under their wing
in the seventeenth century, where now the Jig plays a major part in these countries performance
culture. The Jig includes many different formalities of the dance, such as the Slip Jig, Treble Jig, Light

Gaelic Ireland s military became more pronounced going into the 17th century as well as a new
Protestant Domination (History of Ireland). Home Rule , the historical movement used to solidify
internal autonomy for the British Empire. Thanks to a Protestant lawyer, Isaac Butt, an Irish
Parliament was established in 1870. After going through the Irish War of Independence and the Anglo
Irish Treaty in 1922, Ireland became an independent free state. The last conflict in Ireland occurred in
the late 1960s, which resolved thirty years later with the Belfast Agreement. Because these two
countries have similar social classes, lifestyles and gender relations, many outsiders confuse specific
traditions practiced individually as parallel customs. Ireland and Scotland coincide in practicing
Catholicism. Surprisingly, Ireland and Scotland have many similarities such as national icons, the
Gaelic tongue, which was brought to Scotland in the Middle Ages by Fergus Mor (Sayers), and an
almost unhealthy popularity of whiskey. Due to the size of Europe and the minute distance between
England, Scotland, and Ireland, the officially proven origin of the Jig differs from source to source.
Traditional Jig music is referenced as folk music to encompass the various genres underneath the
umbrella term of folk music . As a result of cultural diffusion, the folk music of

The Role Of Women In The Femme Fatale
For example, Larry chose Suzanne out of all the women in the bar. As he was seen looking from
woman to woman, but stopped and smiled at Suzanne as soon as he saw her. She is also desired by the
TV guy when he is presenting his speech he is seen stopping and admiring Suzanne, and later rubbing
her leg under the table. She is also the key desire of James, who kills her husband for her and takes the
blame. Given that, Suzanne uses her looks (sexuality) to gain the attention and control of men seen
within the film. She uses sex and love to gain the influence of men, and get them to do whatever she
wants (dirty work). In fact, she gets the attention of James and then has sex with him in order to win
his love and get him to murder Larry. She is able to manipulate men, and get them to do anything she
wants. She recognizes the function that women serve in narrative and exploits it to disguise her own
plotting (Week Ten Recap: The Femme Fatale).
Correspondingly, Suzanne is best understood as a gender critic. She understands that gender requires
us to perform or act dichotomously. Suzanne knows how to be feminine, and acts feminine when it
suits her purposes, often directing her actions at the men around her. Acknowledging them, she is able
to appeal to their interest and grab their attention and pretty much take over their minds. Suzanne uses
her femininity as an act, and uses her seductive ways in order to arouse the men within her life (Week
Ten Recap: The Femme Fatale). For

George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 Essay
Living in a society with limited freedom of expression is not, in any case, enjoyable. A totalitarian
system is a good example of such a society, because although it provides control for the people, it can
deny them a great deal of freedom to express themselves. The fictional society in George Orwell s
1984 also stands as a metaphor for a Totalitarian society. Communication, personal beliefs, and
individual loyalty to the government are all controlled by the inner party which governs the people of
Oceania in order to keep them from rebelling. Current society in North America is much more
democratic. It contrasts with Orwell s society of 1984 because communication, personal beliefs and
the people s loyalty to the government are all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of Newspeak is designed to control personal beliefs of the citizens by limiting their form
of expression as Syme explains. But when the governing system is not followed, Thought Police are
used to prevent thoughts that oppose the nation. quot; How often, or on what system, the Thought
Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched
everybody all the time (Orwell, 6). There is no doubt that through both Newspeak and the Thought
Police the system of government in 1984 has adequately prevented the people from thinking against it.
When all this surveillance is placed on the people, they learn to comply with their country and
eventually begin to value it automatically. In our society personal belief is expressed in any way, shape
or form. From the different religious options that we can choose from, to the way we believe our
country should be run, we have an impact on it. We choose for ourselves what we believe. If we do
not agree with a certain point that our governments make we can act on it. As an example,
demonstrations and protests are often held which counter certain governmental policies; laws or
propositions are often spoken out against in public. The fact that these rebellious actions are not
punished by the government proves that the government is much more lenient than that of 1984. The

The Violence And Human Violence
20th century is the most educated century but also the most violent over the history of mankind. The
lethal violence has been increasing over the course of mammal evolution. The aggression in mammals,
that includes humans, also has a genetic component with high heritability. So it is widely admitted that
evolution has shaped human violence. And this violence is not among different species, it is among
the same species. Of all the world species, humans and chimpanzees are some the only species that
engage themselves in coordinated attacks on the other members of the same species. We, humans, are
not the only ones that are involved in the homicides, massacres, terrorism, and human violence. Like
humans, chimpanzees also engage in rape, murders, and violence. The patterns of violence that is
found among the humans are compared and contrasted with the great ape species. Whether it is for
food/resource sharing, dominance structure, territory or the male competition for sexual access to
females. Both human and chimpanzee want to prove their status what becomes a reason for a great
number of wars and aggressiveness (Wrangham and Peterson, 1996).
What are the similarities between the chimpanzees and the humans that are certainly not true of all
animals? What gives our own species such violent males? As humans are genetically related to the
Great Apes, my focus of this paper would be tracking the evolutionary history of violence in the Apes
and how it originated in the humans later

CJC, being the only girl and the youngest child in her family she was used to getting her way and was often spoiled. She says, like most people who are the only girl in the family, she was toughened up by her older brother, who would tease and pick on her growing up. • 4. Argumentative Essay On Wicca To understand the great right, you first have to understand that Wicca is a fertility religion. The founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner explains Wicca as a very ancient ritualistic religion based on survival. This rite is more closely based on the ritual of Beltane. During the Beltane rites the high priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned god) into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick where we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly thought the great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its much more about fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the gods through ritual. Praying for fertility to the earth, animals and plants. Author Vivianne Crowley says in Wicca: The Old Religion in the New Age, The outer rite involves a linking of the male and the female; the sacred marriage is outwardly a marriage of two people, but inwardly it is a marriage of the two within one person. The Great Rite is more than just a sexual union; it is the enactment of the creation of the universe itself in the Wiccan tradition. In modern Wicca, many practioners can and will use sex in ritual but this is more often than not used in personal practice. When a man and woman are both practices of the faith and perform rituals together this is an acceptable way to end the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Effects Of Manic Depression On My Undergraduate Majors... Mom is in the hospital again, my father said to me over the phone one evening this past April. Having spent the majority of that day at work counseling and planning for a client with suicidal ideation, my father s phone call instantly put me on alert. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I received this call regarding my mother. Manic depression has been a lifelong battle and this was her third suicide attempt. However this time was different; this time, I knew how to react and how to help her. My undergraduate majors at Syracuse University were psychology and forensic science. As part of the curriculum, I took a variety of classes such as abnormal psychology and forensic mental health, all of which taught me a great deal about mental illness. Book knowledge in hand, I then applied myself to hands on training through multiple internships during college and a full time job as a psychiatric counselor after graduating in 2014. In 2011 and 2013, I had two summer internships with Cornerstone Montgomery: the first working in the Life Skills Program, and the second working in their 24 hour crisis residential facility. While working in the Life Skills Program, I fostered my interest in working with those who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness. I taught my clients skills needed for rehabilitation including eating healthy on a budget, basic computer skills, and medication management. Along with being a music lover, he was a large peace activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going to different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change the way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennon s career, he and Ono dedicated a large portion of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth. Lennon referred to this protest as his Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day to observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than Lennon and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas, prepared to talk about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of protesting, was also the time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace a Chance, which, as said before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of people might look at the idea of sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace remains undoubtedly silly, the couple admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this were any ordinary people, it would not have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since John Lennon was previously a very well known musician, he was able to use his fame to his advantage. This allowed him to lure in the paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted unfair conditions unlike anyone else, due to his fame from being a member of the ... The first reason is imperialism causes a hostile environment between the nation imperializing and the nation being imperialized. Next, the negative outcomes outweigh the positive. In other words, when there is little good that comes out of expanding one nation, why would a nation take that risk? Lastly, Ethnocentrism is one of the effects of imperialism. Ethnocentrism is judging distant cultures based on the standards of your own. Imperialist nations believe that they are superior races and culture. The White Man s Burden provides more insight on the perspective of those imperialist nations ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). To serve your captives need; to wait in heavy harness, on fluttered folk and wild your new caught, sullen peoples, half devil and half child said Kipling ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). This quote means it is believed that the white man s burden or responsibility is to imperialize, civilize, and Christianize these other nations. For instance, African American were seen as the unfit and they needed to be civilized. Racism is when races are considered inferior to another race because of assumptions made. When you consider another race unfit, you are basing it off your own culture s differences therefore creating racism (Rashid, Aatif). Furthermore inequality is caused by those superior nations . These superior nations put themselves on a high pedestal resulting in the belief they are better than anyone else. • 10. Malaria Is A Disease Of The Poor Would a country free of malaria still be just as poor? Malaria is frequently referred to as a disease of the poor. Malaria is a disease that kills millions of people in tropical areas where malaria carrying mosquitoes swarm in the jungle (Friedlander). Malaria is caused by tiny living things called Protozoans. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the protozoans enter the person s blood. They live inside red blood cells as parasites. They take everything they need to live from the cells, which kill the cells (Britannica). Malaria is one of the most serious health problems facing the world today. The World Health Organization estimates that over 300 million new cases of malaria arise a year, with approximately two to three million deaths resulting from Life cycle of the human malaria parasite. contraction. (Carrington). Mainly I chose Malaria as my research topic because I love learning about parasites and their behavior. Also I chose it because it is a common disease in Sri Lanka, which is where I come from and also because one of my best friends died from malaria. I want to know why malaria mostly spread in poor countries such as Africa, India, and Peru. Another reason I chose malaria as my topic because one day I want to become a doctor and help people live in poor countries. Before the research I knew malaria is a disease which occurs mostly in poor, tropical and subtropical areas of the world. I also knew people get malaria by being bitten by an infective mosquito. ... • 11. Swinburne s Rebuttal To The Substantial Problem Of Evil In... I posit that God if [He] does exist is ageless, timeless, omniscient, and omnipresent insofar as He exists in a dimension outside time and three dimensional space. Because of that, and given the limits of epistemic accessibility, it seems rather impossible to say with certainty what about God is objectively true. In fact, to say anything more than that outside of what is possibly or probably the case concerning God, is akin to poetry, a series of metaphors characterizing a hyper dimensional being. In fact, it seems odd to attach a gender to the Divine, much less an anthropomorphic form with such certainty. Finally, I will briefly explicate a multiverse solution to the problem of evil whereby I will attempt to show how a multiverse could on appearances satisfy the conditions set by both the theist and the atheist in a manner that is conceivable by both able to be understood by the intellect as well as the senses so as to serve as an anti metaphor. • 13. Theme Of Adolescence In The Outsiders The Outsiders (essay) The differences between adolescence and adolescent experiences are portrayed in the film The Outsiders (1983), by Francis Ford Coppola and Clueless (1995), by Amy Heckerling. Coppola uses visual and verbal techniques such as music, camera angles and sounds to show the friendship between Johnny and Ponyboy and also depicts the meaning of adolescence. The notion of adolescence is strengthened and enriched through the film The Outsiders (1983), by Francis Ford Coppola. The symbolic imagery of the sunrise and sunset symbolises the unity and connection of the group, this is reinforced in the scene when Ponyboy connects with Cherry at the cinemas. The greased hair sported by the members of the Greaser gang is perhaps the most potent symbol in the film. The symbolism of the well groomed hair reflects their wealth and clean cut upbringing this is reiterated through the Greaser gang has longer, greased hair to reflect their pride in being from the wrong side of the tracks. For Greasers, long greased hair symbolizes their toughness, pride in where they come from, and their affiliation with their gang. Above all, the greased hair symbolizes the boys kinship with one another this also depicts the idea of adolscence. In these minute instances, we can see his true character and his true adoration show. Towards the end of the novel, Peter returns only once to Wendy after she left Neverland. This may be because he has realized that she no longer cares to serve him as she once did. She will no longer be his mother, rather a friend. David Kirsch, a celebrity trainer, has recently developed the New York diet. This is a fairly strict diet based on the emphasis of eating and living a low carbohydrate lifestyle. The New York diet is based heavily around the concept of cutting sugar and non essential fats out of one s diet. This diet tries to completely cut all sweets such as soda, candy, sugar, and even fruit. It also targets unhealthy beverages such as alcohol and coffee. In early and mid adulthood, many adults need to begin thinking about their brain health and ways in which we can make natural improvements with diet, exercise, and other healthy lifestyle choices. If you have a family history of disorders associated with low levels of dopamine, you may want to consider how you can naturally increase dopamine levels in your own body to help improve your aging outcomes. As a neurotransmitter in the brain, dopamine is vital to our memory, cognitive function, and even to our voluntary movement capabilities. While we can not directly increase dopamine naturally, there are specific steps we can take to help our bodies boost the production of dopamine more effectively. Eating foods, for example, that are rich in tyrosine is one way in which we help to provide our bodies with the precursors need to naturally create dopamine for use in the days and weeks to come. If are looking for ways in which to naturally increase dopamine levels in your body, consider eating diets that are right in meats, cheese, and even in soy based products as all of these foods contain high levels of tyrosine that will provide your body with the foundation on which to boost dopamine levels. Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among other awards. If Marianelli and director Joe Wright s objective was to evoke music of the time period, they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels and the era in which Pride Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is also enhanced by the music. This paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie s theme is a recurring element that plots their relationship from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of Darcy s Letter , present in a number of scenes, helps to depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing of Lizzie s theme also offers an interesting look into the social classes of the time and how they affected relationships. The most frequently occurring music in Pride Prejudice is Lizzie s theme. During the opening sequence, a bright morning is shown as birds chirp. Soft piano is heard pulsing and Lizzie walks on screen reading a book. The tempo hastens slightly as Lizzie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste The Rotten Damage of Food Waste Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000 people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children. The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars. ... • 22. Compare And Contrast The Santa Ana And Brush Fire Different Things People can look at the same situations and see different things. In Brush Fire by Linda Thomas and The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, both writers are writing about the same situation however, the texts are both vastly different. Both essays are written about the Santa Ana winds, which is a wind that blows through both southern and northern California. The message of Brush Fire by Linda Thomas is that the Santa Ana winds are more of an event that happens yearly that causes many great effects on the earth that outway the bad. Nevertheless, in The Santa Ana by Joan Didion the message is that the Santa Ana is a horrid occurrence that happens each year that only brings a string of negative effects with it. The writers take a completely different approach, trying to describe the subject. The author s writing style divert from each other through the use of style elements, rhetorical and literary devices, as well as rhetorical appeals. The Santa Ana and Brush Fire have several similarities and differences in style elements. The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ in the use of syntax. In The Santa Ana, Didion uses more complex syntax with longer sentences and the text overall is longer. Dissimilar from Brush Fire, in which Thomas uses a simpler syntax that has much shorter and concise sentences. The Santa Ana also uses antithesis repeatedly, which establishes a juxtaposition, this shows the good and bad of the situation. Thomas s sentences are shorter and more fact based which gets more to the point faster and shorter. However, Didion s sentences are longer and more opinion and has a more personal feel than, Brush Fire. The diction in The Santa Ana and Brush Fire differ vastly. Thomas uses a more dark diction uses words like words like murder, suicide, and depression. Unlike, Didion who has a more reflective diction and uses words like return , will be , new , and cancels out . Both The Santa Ana and Brush Fire use a heavy use of imagery. In The Santa Ana Didion not only describes the Santa Ana winds, but also describes other winds that are similar. • 25. Honey Bees And Its Effects On Bees Bees are a vital source to most of the daily products that we use today. From the food we eat, to the trees outside. Without them, there will be no greenery or some of our favorite foods. That is why it is necessary to protect their well being. Therefore multiple solutions have been recommended to preserve their existence, in healthy and efficient environments. Recently, studies are showing a dramatic decrease of the bee population. As a result, there have been fewer instances of the great pollination process performed by the bees, therefore affecting the food and produce whose growth process are dependant on the bees. Honey bees originally came from Europe, but the problem of the decreasing population became known after Pollination Week declared by the senate and governors on June 22nd. The reasoning behind the lack of bees on agriculture farms, is due to the harmful pesticide spray. Denied access to neonics, farmers will inevitably revert to spraying their fields either from the ground or by plane with older and more dangerous insecticides (Rodgers Media 6). Furthermore, because there are fewer pollinators, the food they help flourish have become a worry to researchers. The world would be a desolate place without our pollinating friends, devoid of flowers, flowering plants and many of our favorite foods (Hannon Gerald 9). • 27. The Impact Of Corruption In Mexico Mexico is the eleventh most populated country in the world with a $2.2 trillion economy (CIA, 2017). It is also an extremely popular tourist destination for Americans and Europeans alike. Moreover, its people have had the highest average annual hours worked in the world every year for the last three years (OECD, 2017). Despite this, their unemployment rate is estimated to be 3.6% and their underemployment at 25% (CIA, 2017). I am going to expand on this country s issues with corruption, organized crime, violence, the economy, and how I assess their future will affects us here in the United States. Like many countries in turmoil, corruption is and has been a big part of Mexico s political scene, especially with domestic criminal organizations such as the drug cartels. Mexico s politicians have not only stolen public funds but they have also made complicit agreements with multiple drug cartels. Mexico ranks No. 123 in Transparency International s 2016 Corruption Perception Index, 25 spots lower than the year before. Analysts say it s unclear whether corruption has gotten worse or has merely become more visible because of transparency laws, journalists increasingly uncovering graft and social media exposing politicians excesses (Agren, 2017). In recent years there have been multiple Mexican politicians prosecuted and arrested due to their illegal dealings but the cycle just continues with their successors. Take Javier Duarte for example, who was the governor of Veracruz State from 2010 to 2016 and managed to steal $3 billion from public funds meanwhile violence spread throughout the state. The violence was so severe that mass graves with 250 skulls were discovered and at least 17 journalists were murdered during his tenure (Agren, 2017). Additionally, the two former Tamaulipas State governors were both indicted for their involvement in illicit activities. The former governor, Tomás Yarrington, was accused of taking bribes from both the Zetas Cartel and the Gulf Cartel; meanwhile in 2015 his successor, Eugenio Hernández, was indicted in Texas on federal money laundering charges (Agren, 2017).
