Why Soccer Is Better Than Other Countries
Waking up early in the morning to go the soccer field and get a whiff of fresh cut grass, paint, and the
unpleasant smell of some soccer socks being put on to be ready for a match. Some people may have
played soccer in their younger days and can understand the enjoyment. Some people are committed to
the sport and others may have played a few years because their parents made them to. There is nothing
wrong with playing soccer, but to know that they were a part of an amazing experience. This is a very
popular sport around to world and is called football to other countries, but is called soccer in the
United States. A lot of differences in how people in America see the sport than those from another
country. The beautiful game of soccer is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are players who are soon to become legends for their countries.
Many people enjoy the game of soccer whether they are playing or just watching. There are many
competitions and other platforms to watch a decent soccer match. Competitions like the Champions
League, Euros, Copa America, Gold Cup, etc. Many fans tuned in to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup
in Brazil. Fans from all over the world tune in to witness the greatest tournament to be competed at a
high level. The entire World Cup reached 3.2 billion viewers, and the final game had around one
million viewers watching live (2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015). Others enjoy to play the sport as well.
People enjoy the game of soccer whether it is playing for fun or competing in the World Cup. Fans
that play want to imitate their favorite players moves. Children watching the pros work their magic
during the World Cup, doing fancy tricks or scoring crazy goals makes kids go out with a ball and
copy what they saw. Players like Ronaldo and Messi do things that make child look up to them. A
study from a survey conducted by FIFA in 2007 found that 265 million people are playing soccer
(Kunz, 2007). Players play to sometimes relieve themselves from a tense situation in the real world.
So, as they play, they seem to escape in a different reality that all they see and

How Did Clara Barton Influence The American Red Cross
Clara Barton was born December 25, 1821 on Christmas Day at Oxford, Massachusetts. Clara s father
was Captain Stephen Barton and her mother was Sara Stone Barton. Clara was the youngest of four
siblings. When Clara was eleven years old her brother fell off the roof of a barn and became very ill.
Clara had to take care if him for two years and found out that she enjoyed helping and taking care of
others. This started Clara s journey of helping and caring for others by shaping and building the
American Red Cross in the United States.
Clara s mother always taught her that people should be treated equally. When Clara was working at a
school they wanted to pay her less than what men were paid. She was an excellent teacher and she did
not agree with this so she argued with them and they agreed to pay her the full wage. This started
Clara s fight for women s rights. Clara became an advocate for women s rights. Throughout her life

Family and the General Systems Theory
The word family can be defined in many ways. When I think of the word family, I think of two or
more individuals who are sometimes related by blood or through a strong bond of unconditional love,
as well as, a shared experience, values, responsibilities, the law, even related through a community.
Different families view themselves in different ways. They have different roles, have certain
boundaries or rules, communicate and solve problems in a different way, and can adjust to change
differently. I will discuss my own family and how I view my family through the lens of the General
Systems theory and apply each central property as it contains to my family and how we communicate.
There are six significant properties within the General systems theory, wholeness, interdependence,
boundaries and openness, hierarchies and subsystems, calibration and feedback, and lastly there is
equifinality. I consider family to be two or more people. Everywhere I go I usually look at the family
as a circle instead of seeing them each as an individual person. I look at a family as a circle because
they all are bonded in some sort of way. Wholeness could be thought of as a circle, because a circle
can be defined as one whole figure. Many times a family view themselves as one whole figure or
wholeness. Wholeness is defined as the way the family view themselves. The family unit has a
personality that is shaped by the combination of each members (Turner). No one can truly understand

Federal Funding And Private Investors
specified in Proposition 1A. However, as time passes, the initial estimate is beginning to look like a
low ball. The construction process has taken longer than expected up until this point, and that has
many direct and indirect costs associated. Some of these include increased number of work hours, job
site utilities, and equipment rentals (Cox). Because of this increase in price, the state of California has
tried to match federal funding with private investors. This, however, has been a slow and uncertain
process. Another overestimation on the side of the CAHSR is in train times. Cox argues that the
CHSRA s anticipated average speeds are not being achieved anywhere in the world, even on the most
advanced lines. He also states that the HSR would be unattractive to drivers in middle distance
automobile markets because little or no door to door time savings would be achieved and costly local
connections would often be required (rental cars or taxicabs). California lacks the extensive local
transit infrastructure in the Central Valley that can be found in dense Asian and European areas; these
smaller connecting systems are what make the high speed rail so effective on other continents.
Without them, it is a lengthier process for consumers to get to their end destination they have to use
both the public transit and their own form of transportation. This could have a negative effect on
ridership because consumers will forego the hassle of changing transportation methods and

Indentured Servants and Slaves in the U.S. Essay
A plantation economy, an economy founded on an agricultural mass production like tobacco, sustained
the source of income of the Chesapeake regions, consisting Virginia, Maryland, and northern North
Carolina. The early settlers soon realized the urgent need for labor in the New World. Due to the fact
that many potential immigrants could not afford an expensive trip across the Atlantic, the Virginia
Company developed the system of indentured servitude to attract common laborers. Since tobacco
required intensive hand labor all year round, indentured servants have become vital to the colonial
economy. Virginia Servant and Slave Laws represent the elaborate efforts of masters to profit from

3). Also, slave woman is considered more valuable due to the child. The law enacted in Virginia shows
masters goal to profit from the children of slaves, In 1662, Virginia lawmakers specified that the
children of slave mothers inherited their mothers slave status ( Virginia Servants and Slave Laws, in
Handout Set, p. 2). Under theses harsh circumstances, servants and slaves, regardless of gender and
ethnicity, tend to work together and that became a great fear of the ruling class. Virginia Laws
Governing Servant and Slave reveals the rebellions of servants and slaves who united to fight against
their masters. Bacon s Rebellion, in 1676, occurred in the Virginia Colony in opposition to Virginia s
Indian policy (Roark, The American Promise, p. 79). Bacon s Rebellion demonstrated that poor whites
and poor blacks could be united in a cause, and it shows that they are capable of challenging the ruling
class together. Virginia lawmakers enacted the laws to prevent the servants and slaves from uniting to
fight against masters. According to Document 2: Law Making Slave Status Inherited from Mother,
1662 the Virginia legislators punished interracial sexual relations, And that if any Christian shall

The North and South in Antebellum United States
The North and South in Antebellum United States In the time just before the Civil War, the United
States was one of the most successful nations in the world. The United States had become the world s
leading cotton producing country and had developed industry, which would in the future, surpass that
of Great Britain. Also, the United States possessed an advanced railroad and transportation system.
However, despite its successes, the United States was becoming increasingly divided. The North and
the South had many distinct differences in terms of their social, cultural, and economic characteristics
that brought about sectionalism and, eventually, the Civil War. The North s social structure was very
different from that of the South. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Factories in the North attracted former subsistence farmers because it was more efficient to buy food
rather than to grow it. Systems like the Lowell System employed young women, provided them with
room and board, and paid the women for their work in the factory. With the rise of numerous new
American inventions, machines became more efficient and the United States had soon developed one
of the best industrial economies in the world. Because of the need for effective transportation to
distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal systems emerged.
The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The economy was based
largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton gin allowed the
cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because the cotton industry
was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However, the industrial
economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial relationship between
the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange for manufactured goods.
The system put the South in an inferior position to the North, which obviously upset Southerners and
led to greater tension between the two regions. In the years prior to the Civil War, the Northern and
Southern regions of the U.S.

Diversity In Classroom Diversity
Within the core of many educational institutions, diversity is a commercial tacit. While every
institution cannot offer the same kind of diversity, the endorsement of such exists through various
definitions. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges define diversity through the various
classes: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, national origin, religion, sexual
orientation, and age ( Statement on Diversity ) Diversity within an educational institution is crucial to
developing well rounded individuals through discussions and interactions with individuals of a
different class. Applications of diversity towards an Honors community are even more crucial, as the
universal mission of an honors program is to invigorate its students to think at a higher caliber than
those outside of the program. With discussions of diversity, different perceptions, ideas, and ways of
thinking are promoted. Josh Packard, a Ph.D. holding sociology professor at the University of
Northern Colorado, finds that white students bring no substance to the classroom, as they only discuss
about the white ethnic groups. However, black students tend to discuss their experiences and tie them
into the academic content. In doing so, over a majority of white [students] specifically referenced
comments made by minority students in the classroom (150) when writing in their reflection journals.
This shows the profound impact that one comment by a black student can have in a

The Little Town Of Christmas Essay
Most people agree that Christmas is a magical time. They believe that it can warm the heart of
Scrooge, bring toys to life, and even deliver toys across the globe. However, can a Christmas ad be
magical, is it possible for just an ad taped to the wall; can it incite warm feelings in someone s heart,
to bring just a spec of happiness to them? This ad for The Little Town of Christmas, may seem plain
and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked. There are several
different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of many;
these aspects are the ad s font style, the color scheme, the age range it targets, and the overall design
choice.
Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic Sands.
However, instead of these font styles, the production company decided to go with a more creative font
for the ad. Moreover, this font style doesn t have a specific style or standard, because of this there are
a few details that are subtle to the eye. In the Christmas the t resembles a cross, that one can only
assume is to honor Christianity; for as many know Christmas was the birth of the profit Jesus. While

Perspectives of the American Dream The American Dream is a notion that every single person who

while she tells her son to stop getting dirty chasing the dog, and the daughter is playing with her dolls

Comparing Machiavelli s The Prince And Letter To Francesco...
Niccolo Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher and historian, is regarded as one of the founders of
classical political philosophy and political science. To this day, scholars continue to debate whether
the Florencian writer is more sympathetic to the few or the many. With some of his texts containing
views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher is a true
democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his personal
ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. His republicanism is most informed by his
remarks on the people, nobles, and ideal state structure. Through analysis of his writings in The Prince
and The Discourses , and his Letter to Francesco Vettori, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there is a minority, then the majority is much too large and may even impede on it. Democrats
govern by the masses according to majority rule, leading to critics labeling the structure as a tyranny
of the majority because of the lack of legal preservation of rights. For republicans, however, justice is
administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe upon the minority.
Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many, each trying to control the
other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In every republic there are two
different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class, and that all the laws which are
made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two. (I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually
sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for the growth of every Republic. Without
tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between regimes and only a single type left to
dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper class was necessary to keep a Republic in
check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and dominate the political sphere. Machiavelli s
sympathy to the few emerges from his view of human nature. The reason why the philosopher has
many critics is because his writings tend to sound quite evil, dark, and gruesome in nature. To others,

Imagine a government that denies 1,138 rights and benefits to a certain group of people who have not

exactly this kind of discrimination. Since the 1920 s the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans) community

Although the opposition holds that gay marriage disrupts the traditional institution of marriage and
creates an environment unfit for children, in actuality it is a civil right that provides economic and
social benefits without being harmful to society in any way, shape, or form.
Opponents of legalizing gay marriage claim homosexuality is against natural order and view marriage
as a sacred pact between a man and a woman. In their eyes, it will ruin the traditional institution of
marriage. In 1971, the Supreme Court decided that the institution of marriage as a union [was] of man
and woman in the Baker v. Nelson case ( Gay 2). The United States government has defined marriage
as such. Allowing homosexuals to marry will redefine the very foundation that Americans thrive on.
And whose to say it will end with gays being allowed to wed? The entire process will lead down a
slippery slope of allowing polygamous, incestuous, bestial, and other nontraditional relationships
being able to marry ( Gay 2). In addition, marriage is for the sake of procreation and children are
negatively affected in a queer environment. The statistics speak for themselves. Children raised by gay
couples constantly lack either a father or a mother figure and are thus 12% more likely to engage in
homosexuality and promiscuity (Roleff 87). Kids can never identify with their own gender or have an
opposite gender role model in a homosexual atmosphere. We need the future generation to grow up in

In The Bissula Analysis
In his pioneering work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon
writes that the poetical fame of Ausonius condemns the taste of his age. Indeed, Ausonius s work may
seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily from previous literature and uses
straightforward syntax. However, his work contains depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends
genres and uses consistent themes as narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent
poems, liquid (as water and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides
wisdom that counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the river provides
calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems, Ausonius
consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water and drink with the chaos
of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the interpretive control. Ausonius
addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems are unserious. He writes that I follow
Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he
requests that the reader drink before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol
is typically associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get
wise to me (8). With this subversion of expectations, Ausonius proclaims drink as a tool to achieve

Sonnet 130 Analysis
Sonnet Analysis Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare
I will be writing about Sonnet 130 that was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare. The theme of this
sonnet is romance, but it isn t the conventional love poem were you praise your mistress and point out
to the readers all the ways in which she is perfect and the best. In this sonnet we could see that beauty
isn t a rush when you talk about love and how does Shakespeare compares her mistress appearance to
things which she isn t, this means her mistress isn t the like a Super model however he loves her
imperfections because those are the ones which make her a human.

The rhyme scheme is typical of a sonnet, it has an (abab, cdcd, efef, gg) 14 line rhyme structure , this
type of rhyme helps us understand better the poem and enjoy it more, as it gives an more interesting
and organize effect. Shakespeare uses hyperbole, metaphors and comparisons as literary devices to
develop the point we want to give on this sonnet, as the same time this literacy devices create a more
interesting effect, as it gives the reader the opportunity to be more open minded and have better
images of what the speaker is talking about, and don t have an abstract image of it.
In conclusion, we can see how Shakespeare doesn t use false comparisons, he avoids the unrealistic
adjectives which could be find in other sonnets of authors describing how perfect her mistress is, he
instead prefers to give the reader a more honest description about the women he loves. He describes
all her imperfections but he still loves her just the way she

Reasons For Appeasement In Ww2
The definition of appeasement is to make a concession to an enemy power to avoid conflict; which it
was supposed to in WW2. Although appeasement is designed to avoid conflict, some believe that the
appeasement in WW2 just created more conflict and ended up lengthening the war. There are
numerous reasons as to why appeasement was the right option for Great Britain and France and as to
why they not only wanted, but needed to appease. Examples of these reasons are the US Separationist
Approach, the damage of WW1 and the lack of army and weapons within Great Britain and France,
which was fuelled by the fact that they didn t expect a war due to Versailles.

Abraham was born a poor farmhand boy in Kentucky, but he moved from small cabins in Kentucky,

much exposure to slavery, although, these states did have black/slave laws. Lincoln got his first dose
of slavery at the age of eighteen when he was hired to take a flatboat down to New Orleans. I quote
from Lincoln: A Photobiography Lincoln would never forget the site of black men, women, and

Republicans strongly disfavored slavery. In 1858 Lincoln fought against Stephen Douglas in a battle

Genocide Throughout History Essay
Genocide Throughout History Throughout the history of mankind, horrific acts of genocide have been
committed. The Crusades, the Native American being murdered by the Europeans, the Forced Famine
in the Ukraine and the Killing Fields of Cambodia are all examples of genocide (Altman,55). The
word genocide comes from the Greek phrase genos meaning race or tribe and Latin root cide meaning
to kill (Altman,13). Genocide can be defined as acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in
part a national, ethnic, racial, religious group by killing members of the group, causing serious bodily
of harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to

The Nazi s accomplished their goal by rising to power, using techniques such as propaganda. Hitler
portrayed his victims as evil (Altman, 14). The term Hitler used was Untermenschem meaning
subhuman (Ayer, 9). Jews were not the only victims of the Nazi s. Gypsies, communists, male
homosexuals, Jehovah witnesses, Poles, political enemies, and the physically and metally handicapped
also suffered (Ayer, 9). Even thought Hitler killed many people, Jews were his most targeted victims.
Hitler s process of exterminating his victims was inhuman and extremely organized. Hitler used the
Jews as a scapegoat for all of Germany s problems. Hitler made glorious speeches to his people about
the importance of the Third Reich Empire or master race. Hitler strongly believed that German
speaking people were superior to all others. Hitler explained to his people the necessity of an empire
and lebensraum, translated to living space. Hitler began to act upon his goals when he established the
Nuremberg Laws. These laws placed sever restrictions on Jews by not allowing them to own
businesses or shop in stores owned by members of the Third Reich. The transportation of Jews into
ghettos came about. Ghettos were designated areas in Europe s cities that were blocked off. Jews 3
were forced to live in the ghettoes, in horrible conditions. On average there was approximately 13
people to a room. The starvation of the Jew s in

Silas Purnell Scholarship Analysis
TRiO has been an incredibly valuable asset to my college experience. They have provided me with
weekly check in appointments with a peer mentor, programming opportunities to become a better
student, and have served as an intermediary between me and other offices on campus when I have
needed help with a topic that TRiO wasn t equipped for. By utilizing these tools, I have become a well
rounded student and enhanced my experience at Northwest Missouri State University. Knowing I had
this support behind me gave me the confidence I needed to join multiple organizations on campus
such as Student Senate and the Residential Hall Association; even fulfilling leadership positions in
these groups. I did this while also maintaining a 3.92 GPA. TRiO has assisted me in finding academic

I have come from a struggling background. My parents never attended college and my mother has
been the sole provider for my family for many years. I have watched her struggle trying to provide for
us and I determined long ago that I would strive to do more for my future family than what she was
able to give us. My dreams required that I attend college. It is because of the financial hardship my
family faces every day that the financial burden that comes from attending college rests solely on my
shoulders. Although I am employed, I do not make enough money to pay for the cost of living and my
school expenses. My goal is to become an attorney and I do everything in my power to attain that
goal. I excel in all of my classes and have become a leader on my campus and in my community. I rely
on scholarships like the Silas Purnell Scholarship to recognize these attributes in me and with the help
of this award I will be able to take my last step in my path of earning my baccalaureate degree and

Netflix s Position As The Top Movies Streaming Service...
Executive summary Netflix. Inc was founded in 1997 as a DVD mail delivering Service Company that
has grown to become a renowned movie and Television series streaming provider. After launching its
streaming services in 2007 Netflix diversified and expanded its streaming services to Canada as of
2010 and is now a household name in more than 190 countries. The business model that the firm has
implemented since its inception has proved superior to its competitors. Before venturing in the
Canadian market the firms management had reiterated its strategic plan as one that seeks to grow
revenue, increase its market share and earnings as it expands the content of its streaming services. To
be leaders in an industry that is volatile with ever changing business environment is not easy. Thus the
purpose of this strategic plan will be to evaluate the firm and develop strategies and further
recommendations that will not only maintain Netflix s position as the top movies streaming service
provider globally but will also assist management to implement strategies that will help the firm to
adapt to a digital media landscape that is ever changing. An external audit of the digital media space
that Netflix operates its business shows that there are emerging trends that are likely to have
significant impact on the operations of the firm in the movie industry. The first cause of concern is that
the series and movies rental industry is gradually shifting primarily to streaming digital content

Thus have the inhibitions been removed. The salaries and benefits of America s top executives, and
many of their advisers and consultants, have soared to what years before would have been
unimaginable heights, even as those of other Americans have declined. (Page 267). America is
increasing in certain things, but decreasing in other things. Citizens are able to achieve more and more
as technology increases and people strive for things. Robert B. Reich won many awards for his writing
pieces. These awards include, Rhodes Scholar, 1968; Louis Brownlow Book Award, National

The problem is under researched because studying children requires parental consent, a troubling
conflict of interest for those who may be involved. There aren t many people who can leave college
with no student loans. Debt causes people to lose money. There are many people in the middle class
losing money through debt because they spent more money than they have. Rich people have money
and they seem to keep getting more so they don t have to get loans they can just pay cash. Robert B.
Reich states, Thus the decline in union membership has been most striking among young men entering
the work forcce without a college education. In the early, 1950 s more than 40 percent of this group
joined unions; by the late 1980 s. less than 20 percent (if public employees are excluded, less than 10
percent). (Page 257). College may leave the biggest debt if you don t do it right, but with a college
degree a person will earn more money so that they can pay off the loans, but most of the paycheck
goes to the loan a month. There is also interest on top of the loan payments.
Secondly, Robert B. Reich talks management jobs disappearing in Why the Rich Are Getting Richer
and the Poor, Poorer. The middle class is shrinking because there are not jobs that can sustain the
middle class, so eight out of ten American Citizens are moving to the lower class and the other two are
moving to the upper class. Reich writes, Also vanishing are lower and

The Effects Of Cognitive Deficits On Children
Children in institutional care such as foster care or adoption are at a heightened risk for poor
psychosocial outcomes. These risks include psychopathology, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency,
academic failure and problems with peers. Their poor performance may result from their experiences
of either maltreatment or abuse. Given that this population of children has poor long term outcomes,
their deficits in cognitive functioning will assist in the development of more suitable interventions and
psychotherapeutic treatment services. This study examined deficits in memory using a sample of 5 to
12 year old maltreated foster/adoption children (n=20) and a comparison group of same aged,
nonmaltreated children living with their biological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this is a huge problem in the legal system, there has been a huge debate on whether or not the
reports of recovering memories of abuse can be authentic, since human memory is susceptible to
distortion. These types of memories can either help or hurt people in the system for example
prosecuting an innocent person who was accused of being an abuser. However, very few studies have
been done on the population of at risk children such as those in foster care or adoption. Children in
foster care and adoption are a unique group that deserves research recognition. This population of
children faces a long term life of consequences because of the maltreatment, abuse and neglect. The
importance of being able to understand what child maltreatment and neglect is crucial because of the
danger it can cause a child. Child maltreatment is an urgent public health problem for many reasons.
This paper expects to investigate the negative effects of early maltreatment/abuse on social and
psychological functioning.

Emotion Understanding and Theory of Mind
At risk children such as maltreated and abused children are at a higher risk of poor psychosocial
outcomes such as substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, academic failure, and future problems with
peer relations (Pears Fisher, 2005). This study looked at the deficits in memory abilities among abused
and maltreated children and suggested that being in foster care was

Toussaint Louverture And The Haitian Revolution
Toussaint Louverture was a key icon in the history of the Haitian Revolution. He was known to this
day as the Black George Washington due to the fact that that he fought of 3 empires, France, Spain,
and Great Britain, in order for the slaves in the French colony of Saint Domingue to be emancipated
and free. The ego or in other words the reputation of Toussaint Louverture was really high during the
Haitian Revolution time period. On the other hand, it wasn t always at the top. Before Toussaint rose
to power he was embarrassed of where he came from and his life on the plantation. Toussaint
Louverture started his life as a slave on the Bréda plantation. Toussaint s parents came to Saint
Domingue on one of the slave ships from Allada, which is in Africa. Toussaint s birth or existence was
a mystery because there was little to no record of it.1 Also, Toussaint s origin and life as a child was
very obscure and he wanted to keep it a secret from the world. Toussaint was unlike the other slaves
on the plantation because he learned how to read and write and formed many relationships over time
with the French plantation masters. Out of the limited records of Toussaint s early life and the very
vague history of his past as a slave makes the conclusion or prediction that he was embarrassed of his
past. It also shows that Toussaint wanted to be known for what he accomplished during the Haitian
Revolution rather than what he was prior to that such as being a slave. Toussaint also

Clara s father was Captain Stephen Barton and her mother was Sara Stone Barton. Clara was the youngest of four siblings. When Clara was eleven years old her brother fell off the roof of a barn and became very ill. Clara had to take care if him for two years and found out that she enjoyed helping and taking care of others. This started Clara s journey of helping and caring for others by shaping and building the American Red Cross in the United States. Clara s mother always taught her that people should be treated equally. When Clara was working at a school they wanted to pay her less than what men were paid. She was an excellent teacher and she did not agree with this so she argued with them and they agreed to pay her the full wage. This started Clara s fight for women s rights. • 4. Family and the General Systems Theory The word family can be defined in many ways. When I think of the word family, I think of two or more individuals who are sometimes related by blood or through a strong bond of unconditional love, as well as, a shared experience, values, responsibilities, the law, even related through a community. Different families view themselves in different ways. They have different roles, have certain boundaries or rules, communicate and solve problems in a different way, and can adjust to change differently. I will discuss my own family and how I view my family through the lens of the General Systems theory and apply each central property as it contains to my family and how we communicate. There are six significant properties within the General systems theory, wholeness, interdependence, boundaries and openness, hierarchies and subsystems, calibration and feedback, and lastly there is equifinality. I consider family to be two or more people. Everywhere I go I usually look at the family as a circle instead of seeing them each as an individual person. I look at a family as a circle because they all are bonded in some sort of way. Wholeness could be thought of as a circle, because a circle can be defined as one whole figure. Many times a family view themselves as one whole figure or wholeness. Wholeness is defined as the way the family view themselves. The family unit has a personality that is shaped by the combination of each members (Turner). No one can truly understand a family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Federal Funding And Private Investors specified in Proposition 1A. However, as time passes, the initial estimate is beginning to look like a low ball. The construction process has taken longer than expected up until this point, and that has many direct and indirect costs associated. Some of these include increased number of work hours, job site utilities, and equipment rentals (Cox). Because of this increase in price, the state of California has tried to match federal funding with private investors. This, however, has been a slow and uncertain process. Another overestimation on the side of the CAHSR is in train times. Cox argues that the CHSRA s anticipated average speeds are not being achieved anywhere in the world, even on the most advanced lines. He also states that the HSR would be unattractive to drivers in middle distance automobile markets because little or no door to door time savings would be achieved and costly local connections would often be required (rental cars or taxicabs). California lacks the extensive local transit infrastructure in the Central Valley that can be found in dense Asian and European areas; these smaller connecting systems are what make the high speed rail so effective on other continents. Without them, it is a lengthier process for consumers to get to their end destination they have to use both the public transit and their own form of transportation. This could have a negative effect on ridership because consumers will forego the hassle of changing transportation methods and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Indentured Servants and Slaves in the U.S. Essay A plantation economy, an economy founded on an agricultural mass production like tobacco, sustained the source of income of the Chesapeake regions, consisting Virginia, Maryland, and northern North Carolina. The early settlers soon realized the urgent need for labor in the New World. Due to the fact that many potential immigrants could not afford an expensive trip across the Atlantic, the Virginia Company developed the system of indentured servitude to attract common laborers. Since tobacco required intensive hand labor all year round, indentured servants have become vital to the colonial economy. The law enacted in Virginia shows masters goal to profit from the children of slaves, In 1662, Virginia lawmakers specified that the children of slave mothers inherited their mothers slave status ( Virginia Servants and Slave Laws, in Handout Set, p. 2). Under theses harsh circumstances, servants and slaves, regardless of gender and ethnicity, tend to work together and that became a great fear of the ruling class. Virginia Laws Governing Servant and Slave reveals the rebellions of servants and slaves who united to fight against their masters. Bacon s Rebellion, in 1676, occurred in the Virginia Colony in opposition to Virginia s Indian policy (Roark, The American Promise, p. 79). Bacon s Rebellion demonstrated that poor whites and poor blacks could be united in a cause, and it shows that they are capable of challenging the ruling class together. Virginia lawmakers enacted the laws to prevent the servants and slaves from uniting to fight against masters. The United States had become the world s leading cotton producing country and had developed industry, which would in the future, surpass that of Great Britain. Also, the United States possessed an advanced railroad and transportation system. However, despite its successes, the United States was becoming increasingly divided. Factories in the North attracted former subsistence farmers because it was more efficient to buy food rather than to grow it. Systems like the Lowell System employed young women, provided them with room and board, and paid the women for their work in the factory. With the rise of numerous new American inventions, machines became more efficient and the United States had soon developed one of the best industrial economies in the world. Because of the need for effective transportation to distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal systems emerged. The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The economy was based largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton gin allowed the cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because the cotton industry was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However, the industrial economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial relationship between the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange for manufactured goods. The system put the South in an inferior position to the North, which obviously upset Southerners and led to greater tension between the two regions. • 9. Diversity In Classroom Diversity Within the core of many educational institutions, diversity is a commercial tacit. While every institution cannot offer the same kind of diversity, the endorsement of such exists through various definitions. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges define diversity through the various classes: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, and age ( Statement on Diversity ) Diversity within an educational institution is crucial to developing well rounded individuals through discussions and interactions with individuals of a different class. Applications of diversity towards an Honors community are even more crucial, as the universal mission of an honors program is to invigorate its students to think at a higher caliber than those outside of the program. With discussions of diversity, different perceptions, ideas, and ways of thinking are promoted. Josh Packard, a Ph.D. holding sociology professor at the University of Northern Colorado, finds that white students bring no substance to the classroom, as they only discuss about the white ethnic groups. However, black students tend to discuss their experiences and tie them into the academic content. There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the hearts of many; these aspects are the ad s font style, the color scheme, the age range it targets, and the overall design choice. • 13. Comparing Machiavelli s The Prince And Letter To Francesco... Niccolo Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher and historian, is regarded as one of the founders of classical political philosophy and political science. To this day, scholars continue to debate whether the Florencian writer is more sympathetic to the few or the many. With some of his texts containing views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher is a true democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his personal ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. His republicanism is most informed by his remarks on the people, nobles, and ideal state structure. If there is a minority, then the majority is much too large and may even impede on it. Democrats govern by the masses according to majority rule, leading to critics labeling the structure as a tyranny of the majority because of the lack of legal preservation of rights. For republicans, however, justice is administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe upon the minority. Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many, each trying to control the other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In every republic there are two different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class, and that all the laws which are made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two. (I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for the growth of every Republic. Without tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between regimes and only a single type left to dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper class was necessary to keep a Republic in check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and dominate the political sphere. Machiavelli s sympathy to the few emerges from his view of human nature. Since the 1920 s the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans) community has been fighting for equality, starting with the Society of Human Rights in Chicago, the earliest known gay rights organization ( American 1). The movement transformed completely from a couple of activists to a widespread protest in the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the opposition holds that gay marriage disrupts the traditional institution of marriage and creates an environment unfit for children, in actuality it is a civil right that provides economic and social benefits without being harmful to society in any way, shape, or form. Opponents of legalizing gay marriage claim homosexuality is against natural order and view marriage as a sacred pact between a man and a woman. In their eyes, it will ruin the traditional institution of marriage. In 1971, the Supreme Court decided that the institution of marriage as a union [was] of man and woman in the Baker v. Nelson case ( Gay 2). The United States government has defined marriage as such. Allowing homosexuals to marry will redefine the very foundation that Americans thrive on. And whose to say it will end with gays being allowed to wed? The entire process will lead down a slippery slope of allowing polygamous, incestuous, bestial, and other nontraditional relationships being able to marry ( Gay 2). In addition, marriage is for the sake of procreation and children are negatively affected in a queer environment. The statistics speak for themselves. Children raised by gay couples constantly lack either a father or a mother figure and are thus 12% more likely to engage in homosexuality and promiscuity (Roleff 87). • 15. In The Bissula Analysis In his pioneering work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon writes that the poetical fame of Ausonius condemns the taste of his age. Indeed, Ausonius s work may seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily from previous literature and uses straightforward syntax. However, his work contains depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends genres and uses consistent themes as narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent poems, liquid (as water and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides wisdom that counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the river provides calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems, Ausonius consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water and drink with the chaos of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the interpretive control. Ausonius addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems are unserious. He writes that I follow Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he requests that the reader drink before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol is typically associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get wise to me (8). Although appeasement is designed to avoid conflict, some believe that the appeasement in WW2 just created more conflict and ended up lengthening the war. There are numerous reasons as to why appeasement was the right option for Great Britain and France and as to why they not only wanted, but needed to appease. Examples of these reasons are the US Separationist Approach, the damage of WW1 and the lack of army and weapons within Great Britain and France, which was fuelled by the fact that they didn t expect a war due to Versailles.
