The digestive system is made up of a long tube called the gastrointestinal tract containing organs like the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. The mouth contains the tongue for taste and speech, teeth for chewing, and salivary glands which produce saliva to aid digestion. The esophagus transports food to the stomach, which contains acids and enzymes to break down food before it passes to the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed. The large intestine then absorbs water before waste is excreted through the rectum and anus.
