Proposal Argument Essay
Writing a Proposal Argument Essay can be a challenging task that demands careful planning,
critical thinking, and effective communication skills. The difficulty arises from the need to not
only present a compelling proposal but also to argue persuasively in favor of it. Here are some
aspects that contribute to the complexity of this task:
1. Research: Crafting a convincing proposal requires extensive research to gather relevant
and reliable information. This involves delving into academic journals, books, articles,
and other credible sources to build a solid foundation for your argument.
2. Critical Thinking:Developing a well-reasoned proposal demands critical thinking skills.
You must analyze the existing literature, identify gaps or issues, and propose a solution
that is both feasible and logical. This requires the ability to assess various perspectives
and weigh the strengths and weaknesses of different arguments.
3. Structural Organization:A proposal argument essay needs to be well-structured to
effectively convey your ideas. Organizing your thoughts coherently and ensuring a
logical flow throughout the essay is crucial. This includes crafting a clear introduction,
presenting the proposal, supporting it with evidence, and concluding with a strong
summary of key points.
4. Persuasive Writing:The essay must not only inform but also persuade the reader to
support your proposal. This involves mastering persuasive writing techniques, such as
appealing to emotions, using evidence effectively, and anticipating and addressing
potential counterarguments.
5. Citation and Referencing: Accurate citation and referencing are essential in academic
writing. Failing to properly credit sources can lead to accusations of plagiarism,
undermining the credibility of your essay. Mastering the nuances of different citation
styles adds an additional layer of complexity.
Despite these challenges, successfully navigating through them can result in a well-crafted and
impactful essay. Seeking guidance from professors, peers, or utilizing writing resources can
significantly ease the process.

Military Justice System
The United States has a comprehensive and vigorously protected system for ensuring
the rights of defendants in criminal trials conducted in the State and Federal courts.
Among these protections are the right to an attorney, the right to remain silent in lieu
of making self incriminating statements, the right to a trial by an impartial jury, the
presumption of innocence, and the exclusion of evidence obtained in violation of the
constitutional rights of the accused. The brave men and women of the United States
armed forces have laid their lives on the line in defense of these rights and the others
that we enjoy as American citizens, and yet they are systematically denied these same
rights by the military justice system. The military justice system has two important
components: The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which is essentially the
set of laws that govern military personnel, and the Manual for Courts Martial
(MCM), which outlines the rules of procedure for courts martial and the military rules
of evidence. While, on the surface, these documents appear to establish a system very
similar to the civilian court system that most Americans are familiar
American Eagles Swot Analysis
American Eagle Outfitters
Company Overview According to the MarketLine analysis (2016), American Eagle
Outfitters, Inc. (AEO) was founded in 1977 by a company called Retail Ventures
originally named Silvermans Menswear, Inc. When AEO was launched in 1977, it
was part of the Silvermans Menswear, Inc. The two brothers that were part of the
founding of American Eagle, Jerry and Mark Silverman, decided that they needed to
continue growing their company by opening more than one store. They opened the
first American Eagle store in 1977 and sold brand name apparel, shoes, and
accessories for men and women (American Eagle Outfitters). A few years later in
1980, due to some financial troubles, Retail Venturessold 50% of the company to the
Schottenstein family who would then have full ownership of the company by 1991
(2016). After the purchase of the company in full by the Schottensteins, Retail

Innovation, and Teamwork. With these values for the company, it has helped shape
their brands identity. With a driven team of employees that are part of the same
demographic as their customers, it really helps make the AEO stores very welcoming
and inviting to customers (Job Opportunities). Unlike competitors such as Hollister or

Benefits Of An Ehr For Medical Records
Discussion Although the general population has concerns about who has the
ability to access their medical records, data has been put into place showed that the
general population knows that having an EHR would be beneficial (Thede, 2010).
Research has suggested that patients, providers and insurance companies have
benefited from EHRs because insurance companies do not have to pay for
duplicate testing as well as patients and providers having the ability to increase the
quality of care that is provider (Thede, 2010). Not to mention, the patients aren t
pained to have to remember every detail of the history when visiting various
specialist (Thede, 2010). Moreover, EHR can increase medical staff efficiency and
reduce errors, and keeping adverse drug events from happening (Bill to promote
electronic health records proposed, 2008). Contrary to the benefits, critics have
suggested that the use of EHRs worry people will have to endure more privacy
breaches and that utilizing the EHRS will be cumbersome for physicians
especially if the physicians are using the EHR in the room with a patient
(Knooper, 2008). To elaborate on the negative aspect of using the EHR, a Luddite
who does not want to embrace technology feels that using an EHR will only cause
him/her to miss diagnostic clues if he/she does not take a person s medical history
by hand with pen or paper which could potentially lead to a misdiagnosis (Knooper,
2008). Some physicians claim that using an EHR while in the room with
Mark Antony Rhetorical Analysis
Mark Antony s use of rhetorical devices helped turn the crowd against the
conspirators in multiple ways in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.
Mark Antony was Caesar s best friend and right hand man. Caesar was killed by the
conspirators because they thought he was ambitious and was trying to take all the
power and become king. The conspirators gave Antony specific rules for what he
could and could not say when he gave his speech at Caesar s funeral. Mark Antonys
use of motifs, personality traits, and rhetorical devices such as the appeal to ethos,
logos, and pathos, and repetition in Julius Caesarhelp convince the crowd to rebel
against the conspirators. Mark Antony s appeal to the crowd s ethos, logos, and
pathos, helps him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mark Antony says, Yet Brutus says he [Caesar] was ambitious. This quote was
used a grand total of three times in act 1 scene 2 on lines 95, 107, and 102. This
excerpt is used to show that Caesar was not determined to take the crown and rule
Rome. Each time this quote was used, Antony gave examples of how Caesar really
wasn t ambitious, such as when he says, I thrice presented him the kingly crown,
which he did thrice refuse (3.2.105 106). This quote shows that if Caesar really was
ambitious, then he would have taken the crown and become king, but instead he
refused. Not only did he refuse once, but three times. These examples shows many
examples as to why Caesar was not ambitious did not want to be king. Antony
repeats the phrase, And Brutus is an honorable man. This quote was repeated in
act one scene two in lines 96, 103, and 108. Each time this quote is said, Antony
had recently described why Brutus is honorable, such as when he says, He hath
brought many captives home to Rome (3.2.97). This quote paints Brutus as a hero
for bringing Roman people held in foreign lands home. The quote also brings to
question Brutus s own motives, questioning if he performed these gallant acts
because he himself is ambitious. The quote also questions why Brutus conspired
against his best friend if he is so honorable. Antony talks a lot about Honorable men
or Honorable man. He uses the quotes for a collective total of seven times. The
quotes are used in act one scene two in lines 91, 92, 103, 108, 136, 149, 163.
Antony was given a set of specific rules before giving his speech, one of which was
that he can not talk bad about the conspirators. Antony uses the word honorable to
make it seem as though the truthful and possibly bad things he says about the
conspirators was not as bad since they were still honorable, but none the less, Antony

Gas Exchange Or External Respiration
Gas exchange or external respiration is where we get oxygen from the air into the
blood and remove waste carbon dioxide from the blood into the air. Gas exchange
happens in the lungs between the alveoli (air sacs) and a network of tiny blood
vessels called capillaries. The capillaries are located in the moist thin walls of the
alveoli. The alveoli give the lungs a really big surface area for diffusion to take
place. There are millions of alveoli in the lungs. When inhalation occurs oxygenis
taken in through the mouth and nose flowing along the trachea and bronchial tubes
to the alveoli of the lungs. The breathed in air, which is now rich with oxygen comes
into contact with the bloodin the capillary network surrounding the alveoli, which
Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock s Film Psycho
A false protagonist is someone who is portrayed as the main character at the
beginning of the film. This character is later obliterated, usually by making them a
lesser character, which reveals them as the antagonist, or killing them. By saying they
are a lesser character, they are slightly less relevant within the story than the
protagonist. The characters of antagonists are often flat or simple, as it contrasts the
development of the protagonist. This literary technique is used as a plot twist to
make a film more memorable. The audience has a pre conceived idea about the
protagonist and their significance to the story. This idea turns out to be false making
the film s storyline more surprising and indelible. In Alfred Hitchcocks film Psycho
this technique is used and gives the film a whole new meaning than it would have
if the film kept the original protagonist, Marion Crane, as the main character. The
false illusion lets us invest into knowing more about Norman Bates (Marion s
killer) and what really makes him so psychotic. A scene from the film Psycho that
briefly hints to the change that is going to happen is the scene where Norman
Bates looks through the hole in the wall to watch Marion Crane get ready for her
shower. This shifts what the viewer is seeing, from Marion s point of view to
Norman s point of view. The viewer suddenly begins to identify with Norman and see
things from his perspective. Throughout the beginning of the film the viewer was
shown Marion s
Nora
In the nineteenth century the typical husband wife relationship consisted of the
husband working and providing for his family whilst the wife being completely and
financially dependant on him. The status of women in the time period of which this
play was written, was that of second class citizen. Women did not have the right to
many things that men did and the role of women was mainly restricted to that of a
housewife. In his play, A Doll s House , Henrik Ibsenportrays Nora as a regular
housewife who goes through an awakening; realizing that she deserved to live a
better life filled with more freedom. At the beginning of the play, Nora, the main
character, demonstrated that she was okay with this stereotypical relationship;
essentially encouraging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, Nora was leaving behind her kids, without looking back, she says,
Goodbye, Torvald. I won t see the little ones (3.79). Although in the olden days it
was not uncommon for a nanny or nurse to bring up children, Nora leaving behind
her children altogether would have a negative effect on them. She said she would
not see them again, which might make her children feel as if they were abandoned.
Moreover, Nora would risk social deprivation. It is known that women did not
have many rights in the nineteenth century, so it would be very difficult to live
alone as a women in that time period. An example of this is Christine, she said I
only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore (1.11). Christine
is living alone, and is finding it hard to live in a society where that is not accepted.
Lastly, it would be hard for Nora to financially support herself, since she has
depended on Torvald for a very long time. She would often have to ask Torvald for
money, since that was the norm in the nineteenth century. For Christmas, Nora asks
Torvald You might give me money (1.5). This shows that Nora did not have money
of her own, which might make it difficult for her in the
Love
Love for another often hides a greater love for oneself By a close comparison of
your two texts, discuss the representation of sex and seduction.
In both Milton s Paradise Lost and Ford s Tis Pity She s a Whore sex is represented
as a catalyst for sin. The love which is promised by many of the central characters
in the poem and the play often has a falsehood and is used as a facade for the
character s true egotistic needs within.
One can see a falsehood in Giovanni s admitted love for Annabella which conceals a
simply lustful desire for his sister. When demonstrating his love for Annabella,
Giovanni focuses solely on her aesthetics, a love that T.S Elliot believed to be
merely a carnal infatuation . This can be seen in his ... Show more content on

During the time in which Ford was writing his play, women were expected to obey
their father in the choice of a husband.
A similar falsehood can be seen in Florio s supposed love for Annabella. He uses a
generous display of his care for his daughter as a sign of his own status and
lucrative power, My care is how to match her to her liking , telling Donado that I
would not have her marry wealth, but love . However, this is simply an exhibition
of any genuine interest in his daughter s self government. Annabelle s happiness
becomes one more possession he can show off and Florio disguises a devotion to
the instruction of his daughter s desire with apparent good intentions and paternal
thoughtfulness. Florio however secretly imposes his own choice of husband on his
daughter with the promise of his daughter s hand to Soranzo. This falsehood of
intention can be compared to Milton s Satan s suggested compassion for Eve. He
with show of zeal and love to man... new part puts on and displays his false love for
mankind, thus concealing his real intents of temptation. By looking as passion moved
and disturbed Satan leads Eve to her eventual fall.
Although there are multiple opinions stating that Adam s love for Eve has a lustful
falseness, one can see signs of true love in his reluctance to part with her, eventually
telling her to Go for thy stay, not free, absents thee more . This marital love can also
be seen in Adam s Glorious trial of exceeding
My First Semester Of College At Embry Riddle
With any course, especially one with a focus as broad as leadership, the material
covered may include a range from useful to impractical. It is impossible to learn the
skills necessary of an effective leader completely out of a book, it takes the
application of them to understand. The development of leadershipis vital to
successfully moving forward in any career, so it would be beneficial to cultivate
these skills academically. Throughout my first semester of college at Embry
Riddle, I noticed that certain changes are evident, while others are more obscure. A
significant development that I perceived is through my writing and writing style,
especially how it improved compared to my writing in high school. Another change
I discovered is how I seemed less introverted earlier in the semester, and now I
sense a regression to how I was like before college. However, I learned that after
attending this university for the past semester, I became more dedicated to my
classes and other things that intrigue me. This is due to how the curriculum and
opportunities allows me to delve deeper into my interests. For example, this
university provides a range of different clubs, allowing me to join the ones that I am
curious about, such as Society of Flight Test Engineers. Due to what Embry Riddle
offers the students and the idea of attending college, this change brought the
development of myself in several ways.
This honors course contained different sources that could be beneficial to me

Commitment Of Children s Children
commitment to their children.
Child s grandmother attended the Flandreau Indian School in the 1920s. She took
part in the outing program which meant that she was sent into a local white
household to work as a domestic servant. Like most other students, she was not
enthusiastic about the program and the servitude; however she did like the sewing
classes and needlework that the school offered as part of the domestic training. She
learned how to sew quilts and pillowcases for members of her own family. One of her
grandmother s fondest memories was of the other students at the school many of
them Sioux who spoke the Dakota language. Although the assimilationists were
committed to the repression of trial languages and culture, the Indian students
learned each other s tribal languages as well as English. Child believes her
grandmother was a fairly typical student of the era her father was a widower and
single parents often sent their children away for school because reservation life was
often harsh and unpredictable for both children and adults. Her grandfather had been
swindled out of his allotment at White Earth and then the state of Minnesota seized
his property after claiming that he owed back taxes.
Other authors have also described the boarding school experience. D Arcy McNickle
s Train Time (1936), is the sensitive story of a young boy being sent away to a
boarding school in Oregon with a group of children from his reservation. None of the

Pros and Cons of Censorship in Schools
Censorship is the process of suppressing something that is considered objectionable
or offensive (Emert 1). In order for a work to become censored, some authority
figure imposes restrictions that establish what would be and would not be allowed
to be put in front of the public for people to read. The standards those in authority
base their restrictions off of are the standards set by the publishers, producers, and
agencies of that work. Censorshipis something that affects many people especially
in the school system; it normally causes tensions to rise. This is because someone
feels that their First Amendment rights have been violated. This most frequently
happens in the school system because parents, students, teachers, and or staff find
a work offensive in some way and try to get it removed. They bring it to the school
board, and if severe enough, the case is brought before a judge in court. In most
cases the person or group that tries to get the work censored, loses the case. In some
cases, the person trying to censor does win. According to most school boards, they
would say that students have their full First Amendment rights, but that is not always
the case. When it comes to the Freedom of Expression, most schools find some way
to censor, books, and articles especially. Censorship in schools may have pros and
cons, but most feel that there are mostly cons, where censoring is a violation of their
First Amendment rights. It violates some of the rights that the First

Life That Inspired My Left Foot
Emmanuella Abankwah November 23,2016 The life that inspired my left foot
The book I was required to read for my English class was called My Left Foot by
Christy Brown. The setting takes place in Dublin, Ireland in 1932. Christy Brown
was born into a poor, working class Irish family in Dublin, Ireland 1932. A victim of
cerebral palsy, he could neither control his speech nor his movements, apart from
his left foot. For the first ten years of his life he was falsely believed to be
intellectually disabled. Christy Brown was born in Ireland in 1932, after a
difficult birth and with a serious disability that the doctors of the time were unable
to name. They urged his parents not to place their trust in him, as he was, they
believed, an imbecile After he was born, his parents then had five other children,
all healthy. Christy s mother, however, refused to systemize him, keeping him at
home and treating him with tender care. It would not be until years later that she
would learn that Christy s affliction was severe cerebral palsy. At the age of 5, he
wrote his first letter , A , on a chalkboard using his left foot. His left foot proved to
the family he was not an imbecile but a human being able to think and express his
thoughts. His mother was resolute to teaching her son the basics of
Original Work Of Dc Comics Copyright
Because the Batmobile is the original work of DC Comics, the district court told
Towle he was wrong by saying that DC Comics does maintain a copyright for the
Batmobile as it appears in both the 1966 television series and the 1989 film based on
their rights to merchandising and because the appearance and idea originated in the
comic books (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 13). The district court than put this Batman
fight to an end by stating that Towle did infringe on DC Comics copyrightbecause of
how he replicated the Batmobile as it appeared in both productions
(caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 13). Clearly this is an open and shut case because the
district court granted the summary judgment to DC Comics for both the copyright
and the trademark... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was agreed that all claims would be dismiss and on February 22, 2013 the court
entered an agreement that is consistent with stipulation, which would later result in
Towle appealing (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 16).
For DC to be able to win their case, they must be able to prove that they own a
copyright for the Batmobile as it appeared in the 1966 television show and the
1989 movie. They must also prove that Towle s replicas infringed on their
copyright and that the creation of them was unauthorized (caselaw.findlaw.com,
para. 18). In the appeal court, it is concluded that the Batmobile character is the
property of DC and is copyrightable; therefore Towle did infringe upon DC Comics
s rights when he produced unauthorized works of the Batmobile. The ruling of the
district court is then affirmed (caselaw.find.com, para. 49). The court first
answered Towle s original argument that the Batmobile is not copyrightable as it
appears in not only the television series and the motion picture by using the case
New Line v. Bertlesman Music Group. In this case, it is argued that Zomba, a
musican, has infringed New Line s copyright on the A Nightmare on Elm Street in
the music video A Nightmare on My Street. Bertlesman Music Group represents
Zomba in this case (law.justia.com, para 1). This case acts as a precedent for DC
Comics v Towle, because the music video was not related to the film series yet
featured a character that was
Language And Human Communication
Introduction
Language is the way of human communication. It is how thoughts, feelings,
knowledge, opinions, beliefs, mannerisms and intentions are communicated and
shared. Language is typically thought to just be spoken or written, however it has
many depths. Language can be communicated through gestures, glances, changes in
tone of voice and other supplementary communication devices to emphasize what we
say and do (O Neil, 1998 2009). Humans are the only species to have a known
language communication. Most non human species can link information between
each other however no other species is known to have such a complex
communication structure such as language (Gee, 2011).
Language can be observed and deconstructed in many ways. It can be viewed as
both an object and a social process. It can be thought of as a set of rules or
something physically presented to the world in way of speech, audio or writings. The
denotation of language differs depending on the demographic, more specially, culture.
It is important to understand and accept all differing varieties of language. Although
language is used everyday, it is a very complex tool with many levels.
Language can be both an object to be analysed and a social process
To view language as only an object, it must first be separated from human
communication in which the full meaning of language originates (Grugeon and
Gardner, 2000). The National Literacy Strategy suggests the study of an analogy
such as the study of a fish in its
Dark Knight Themes
The Dark Knight
Drama Films are a genre that show serious stories, they re more realistic than other
genres out there because quite often they deal with real life situations. The characters
always have some kind of conflict; they show humans at their worst, best, and in
between. There s a wide range of themes for drama films, to name just a few: current
issues, societal ills, injustice, political unrest, corruption of power, and corrupt
societal institutions. The Dark Knight touches on quite a few of these themes. Joker
in his own twisted way spends a majority of the film trying to show Batman how
corrupt Gotham is. You see a good man broken down by a series of unfortunate
events and turned into something bad. You see a city believe in... Show more content

Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight is a haunted film that leaps beyond its
origins and becomes an engrossing tragedy. It creates characters we come to care
about. That s because of the performances, because of the direction, because of the
writing, and because of the superlative technical quality of the entire production.
This film, and to a lesser degree Iron Man, redefine the possibilities of the comic
book movie. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94% with an average rating of 8.6 out of 10.
Its critics consensus says: dark, complex and unforgettable, The Dark Knight
succeeds not just as an entertaining comic book film, but as a richly thrilling crime
saga.
The two scenes that stuck most with me were both between the Joker and Batman,
the interrogation scene and the final scene of the film between them. What made
those two scenes so strong was the writing and the acting, both actors were fantastic,
and even though the Joker is clearly insane, some of things he said did ring true about
The Global World Knows Pocahontas As A Fairy Tale About
The global world knows Pocahontas as a fairy tale about a Native American woman
who fell in love with an English man, John Smith. Other individuals know about the
true story of Pocahontas and how she was taken from her homeland and paraded
around to show the world that Indians could be tamed. But what if she never met
John Smith and helped him? What would have happened to society then? I believe
that there would have still been tension between the British and the Native Americans
in the area. There would have been no truce since Pocahontaswould have never been
to England. She would have never been converted to a Christian and would have
stayed with her father (or husband).

She would then be kidnapped years later by Captain Samuel Argall who needed some
form of leverage against the Native Americans. Tensions were thick between the

under the care of Reverend Alexander Whitaker. Whitaker taught her English customs
and religion. It is here that she met John Rolfe and married him. This caused a truce
between the Powhatans and the colonists in Virginia. Pocahontas was then
converted to a Christian and was baptized under the name of Rebecca. They had a
son not too long afterwards. The company that funded the settlement of Virginia
decided to use the marriage to their advantage and funded the Rolfe s trip back to
England. Rolfe would then take Pocahontas (or Rebecca) back to England with him
where she was shown around. In the year 1617, the family was meant to travel back
to England but Pocahontas fell ill and died of an unknown disease. With the death of
Pocahontas and Powhatan, relations between the English in Virginia and the
Powhatans soon deteriorated as the Pocahontas truce fell away into shambles. These
tensions would continue as the English grew greedier for land and food from the
Indians. But, because of Pocahontas, the two different cultures lived in a form of

Dear Girl Research Paper
Dear Theresa, Really? 60!? Wow I can remeber when you were 30yrs old and I was
20 yrs old and me teasing you for being SO much older than me, of course you
always looked so much younger than me. I met Theresa in the fall of 1987. We
were sitting somewhat close to each other in a business class at NMSU when I
asked Theresa a question( do you want to go to the George Strait concert ?) , little
did I know that would lead to a life long friendship. During my college years
Theresa was such a source of motivation when I just didn t think I had what it took
to complete an accounting assignment she was by my side helping through the
process. She was a source of wisdom, many times she would say Things happen for
a reason and they always turn out for the better throughout my life I find myself
reciting those same exact words and think of my dear friend Theresa given all the
obstacles she has and she always had a positive outlook on whatever the situation....

Tidal Energy In Nova Scotia
Over the years, Nova Scotia has been trying to make the transition into using more
renewable energy, as conventional energy is very harsh on the surrounding
environment. This can be a difficult task, as renewable energy is much more costly
and is less reliable than conventional energy. Conventional energy is beneficial for
Nova Scotia because the resources needed are abundant and affordable (Scheid,
page 1). Just seven years ago, Nova Scotia was at 10% renewable generation and in
2015, by law, Nova Scotia Power had to get that number up to 25%. By 2020, the
province should be at 40% renewable generation so something must be done over
the next few years to get Nova Scotia there. I believe that the most effective way for
Nova Scotia to balance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why tidal energy generation would be much more efficient than
hydroelectricity energy generation in Nova Scotia because there are not many
strong flowing rivers. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) located in
California stated that the Bay of Fundy had potential to be the best site in North
America for tidal energy generation. I believe that Nova Scotia should take
advantage of these tides and use them as an important resource for our province.
After the costs of the infrastructure and maintenance, tidal energy generation would
be essentially free, as the tides move on their own. A lot of energy can be created
through tides, as tidal power is very sensitive to speed. The amount of energy
formed is the cube of the speed of the water. For example, if the speed of the
flowing water doubles, the energy output is eight times greater. This energy can be
formed from both the change in the height of tides, which is potential energy, and
the flow of the water, which is kinetic energy.. As of now, the main technologies
used are in stream devices, barrages, and tidal lagoons. I think the best solution for
Nova Scotia right now would be to build a tidal lagoon in the bay of Fundy. A tidal
lagoon is like a barrage (which is essentially a dam built across the whole estuary) but
it can be built as a self contained structure. This makes the cost much lower and they
can also continuously generate, unlike a
Literary Differences In Kissing The Witch By Emma
Donoghue
Nobody made me do the things I did, nobody scolded me, nobody punished me but
me. The shrill voices were all inside. Do this, do that, you lazy heap of dirt (2).
Coming from the first passage of Emma Donoghue s Kissing the Witch sets a
revision of popular fairy tales whereas internal voices, seen as personal experience,
and their comparison to external voices, seen as societal expectations, create places
where these stories change. This shift can be seen as a move away from the original
well known story or aspects of that particular story, while also representing a change
in the narratorof the story itself.
The passage above for instance occurs when a cinderella type character is introduced
to the reader. These internal voices are normally associated with the external
voices of the evil stepmother and stepdaughters, which is associated widely with a
common thread within the cinderella story itself. This revision flips what is
normally seen as an external voice and internalizes it. A few pages later we see the
girl and her interaction with the prince after he proposes marriage. The voices
were shrieking, Yes yes yes say yes before you lose your chance you bag of
nothingness. I opened my teeth but no sound came out (7). While the passage above
set up the idea of internal voices, this passage shows how this internalized external
voice is not the voice of the cinderella type narrator. Not only does this completely
rewrite what is considered the normal ending for the
The Need For Data, Collaboration, Trust And Successful...
The Challenge The need for data, collaboration, trust and successful peer training
are the most important aspects of developing the program I am going to design. As
a first year Department Head of the Fine Arts Department within a large public
school, I have been assigned the task of leading this department from a regular
grading system to a Standards Based Grading system. This type of change is what
Schlecty (2007) describes as a systematic change. According to Zepeda (2012), this
type of change is the least understood and the most difficult to achieve (pg. 26).
This is especially true for educators such as those on my team, whose teaching
techniques have been the same for many years. The implementation of standards
based grading uproots almost every aspect of classroom teaching. Grade scales are
different, assessments are greatly different and the idea of remediation is
paramount to SBG. While this conversion may not seem like a difficult task for a
teacher, there are several factors that make it extremely challenging for myself to
convince others to support. For one, all other 7 faculty members in the department
have been teaching at the school for a few years longer than myself. This is why
trust is one of my main key elements on which to focus. Having taught in another
part of the state for many years, I must find a way to prove to them that I am on
their team and will do everything in my power to keep their interests and concern on
the top of the list.
Cuba And The Spread Of Son
Cuba and the Spread of Son Music has been around since the beginning. It is
considered an important part and symbol of traditions and cultures. Despite the long
history of music, it was not until the 1920 s when a genre emerged that was the first
to originate from black individuals on the streets, be made by the working class, and
feature traditional African instruments (Moore 89). This genre was Son. Son music
began in eastern Cubaand then slowly spread across the nation as individuals
migrated to find opportunities or got called into duty in the Cuban military.
Eventually, the music was spread across Cuba and Havana became known as the
center for Son music. The spread of Son music went further than just Cuba it became
a worldwide phenomenon. Considering Son music incorporated various African
traditions, the genre was not able to bring full racial equality and faced many
challenges when being promoted in Cuba.
Considering the origin of Son was in the black streets, the African culture has strong
ties with the music. Son embraces various parts of African traditions, including the
instruments, beats, and words. The main African cultures that contributed to the
genre was Santeria and AbakГєa ceremonies; both of these ceremonies contain sacred
drumming and songs to their religions (Moore 91). The music in these sacred
ceremonies was incorporated into Son. This allowed the African traditional music to
spread as Son grew in popularity. Whether they loved the music

The Thirteen Colonies Essay
Thirteen Colonies The thirteen colonies started in 1607, before this England tried to

king that had tried to start the Jamestown colony died, then in 1607 the new king and
queen Elizabeth I decided to try again this time it worked the first colony was called
Virginia and was named after Queen Elizabeth I. Virginia was not dominated by a
specific religion they welcomed Baptists, Anglicans, and others. The thirteen colonies
included Virginia, Delaware, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Before the colonies became states they had a few issues.
They had a statement that said no taxation without representation this means that they
believed that the parliament could not tax them and that only their own government
could tax them. After the French and Indian war, the British had a really bad debt
from the war and they were already having everyone in England pay enough so they
decided that they were going to tax the colonists. The first thing they passed was a
law called the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act taxed anything that was printed that
included legal documents, bills of sale, calendars, pamphlets, contracts, ships papers,
donations, diplomas, certificates (including marriage), Any kind of decelerations,
official documents, advertisements in papers, licenses including liquor, playing

Equality In Military
For years, women s rights advocates have been calling for an expansion and
inclusion of women in all military positions. The argument is that women have
already been in combat and these feminist groups asserts that the current exclusion
of women is a form of sex discrimination. While it is true that women have in been
in a firefight, these women on the ground are mostly auxiliary forces serving as
medics or liaisons for female civilians.
However, the idea of placing women in direct combat in an infantry position is a
different question altogether. It is important to realize that gender equality should not
be a factor in recruiting infantry personnel. An effective fighting unit should have

Segal, Smith, D. Segal and Canuso (2016) argues that women s integration is no
different than the integration of African Americans and the repeal of Don t Ask,
Don t Tell (DADT). During World War II, white soldiers who were in more contact
with black soldiers were less opposed to racial integration. Likewise, the repeal of
DADT was a non issue because there was already a closed and sustained contact. In
the same way, male peers would accept women in combat as shown in the interaction

CMR (2015) disputes these by asserting that unity of purpose of war and not gender
diversity is what will strengthen the armed forces. Rather, racial integration

Anthropogenic Effects Of Upwelling
Organisms have the ability to adapt to certain stresses called a stress response,
however the region in which they are able to cope with stress is only so big. Once
once the threshold is past the organism can no longer cope with the stress and it
negatively affects the organism. Anthropogenic induced climate change are adding
many stress factors on organism that they have to cope with at once. Upwelling
occurs when winds from the North come down, bringing up the nutrient rich waters
up with them. This nutrient is good for the area, however due to other anthropogenic
causes this can be a recipe for disaster.
The East Pacific Coast is an area that experiences upwelling. This area of upwelling
is special, because the Pacific is end of the converobelt of the Meridional cycle.
This means that this water is the most oxygen depleted and most Carbon rich in the
ocean. Increasing CO2 emissions finding their ways into the ocean, and increasing
carbon in the oceans leads to its acidification. Upwelling regions are naturally more

on biological processes such a growth rate, reproduction and mortality. The
organism we choose to study can be from different trophic levels to see how these
changes affect the ecosystem as a whole and the food web. We can take
measurements of these factors where they are high and see how they affect the

see what type of effects it has. In a video we watched in class we saw how rising pH
could affect corals killing them off with coral bleaching and if acidic enough the
coral itself would erode away because it was under the saturated state. Understanding
these effects is essential to preserving our ocean and its
Nurse Burnout Research Paper
Introduction
Stress is a normal feeling, and can be beneficial as it motivates people to accomplish
tasks efficiently. However, prolonged stress can be harmful and lead to burnout.
Burnout is defined as a syndrome of feelings of emotional exhaustion,
depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment (Maslach Jackson, 1986).
Healthcare providers, especially nurses, are often exposed to high stress
environments that put them at risk for burnout. It is reported that 40% of hospital
nurses experience burnout and one in five hospital nurses consider leaving work
within one year (Ilhan, Durukan, Taner, Maral, Bumin, 2007). This is concerning
because nursing burnout not only affects the wellbeing of the nurse, but also the kind
of care the patient receives. According to the National Institute of ... Show more

Nurses have many responsibilities and take on various roles. Besides playing the
role of a caregiver, nurses are also educators and are responsible for their patients
knowledge of their health and medications. Nurses are also advocates that act upon
the patient s wishes and protect their rights. The workload that nurses are responsible
for leave nurses more susceptible to experiencing burnout. In addition, short staffing
can also put more work to the already overwhelming workload that nurses have.
Lastly, long shifts may also contribute to this burnout syndrome that nurses suffer
from. More nurses than ever are switching from eight hour shifts to twelve hour
shifts as this schedule shortens their work weeks (Stimpfel, Aiken Sloane, 2012).
However, there is limited research on long shifts and its impact on the well being of
nurses and the quality of care provided. The purpose of this paper is to compare eight
hour shifts and twelve hour shifts and their impact on nurse burnout. For nurses
working in the hospital settings, does working eight hour shifts compared to twelve

Happiness is a mental state of well being characterized by positive emotions ranging
from contentment to intense joy . Notice that happiness is within the range of
contentment to intense joy. Every single thing in the world which brings contentment
or joy costs money and therefore, it is money which brings happiness.
Nothing can be yours without money being spent either by the person experiencing
this happiness, or by others spending money so that they can be happy. For example,
even people who are contented with sustenance and covering will realize that both
food and shelter costs money. Turn on the news and watch people dying of

To illustrate, surely there are many single people who are happy does that mean
that marriage is not a source of happiness? No. One thing is for sure poorness doesn
t bring happiness at all. A husband and wife bickering over how to spend their last
hundred dollars is not what I would call a happy marriage.
People say money is just paper with something printed on it but so are books and
yet look at how much joy people get out of reading novels, poetry books, comics,
and the list goes on. When a man writes a letter back home to his wife saying I m
coming home tomorrow after a long business trip, she smiles with joy that paper
with something printed on it sure did make her happy likewise money too may just
be paper and ink but when a man hands a check donation of one million dollars over
to the orphanage I m sure everyone is quite happy and when a man wins the lottery I
m sure it makes him quite happy.
Rich people complain Everyone pretends to love me but they love my money it is
like saying that we should strive to be poor so that people won t pretend to be our
friends? I m sure that if anyone were to ask a set of 1000 very rich people how happy
they were and 1000 poverty stricken, homeless, hungry, sick people who happy they
were on a scale of 1 to 10 the rich would definitely fair better in terms of who is

Essay about Angola
In past centuries, Angola was among the areas most devastated by the slave trade.
In recent decades, it has been afflicted with wars. However, in both eras, much of
the violence was driven by powerful external forces. This is because Angola, with
an abundance of oil and other resources, could develop into a very prosperous
country if led and controlled by the right power. In 1975 Angola was released from
colonialism by Portugal. This pivotal event in history sparked the beginning of a
massive conflict between many of the key players in world power. These key players
included the United States, Cuba, China, and the Soviet Union.

The Relationship Between Bilingual Education And...
Bilingual education involves the practice of teaching non English speaking learners
in their native language, while they are learning English. The academic content is
taught in both the native language and a secondary language. Program models for
bilingual education determine the varying allotted time for each language. It is often
a complex array of school programs with different goals and objectives for varying
student populations (Bybee Henderson, 2014).
Multiculturalism, on the other hand, is the diversity of cultures; racial and religious,
that exist in society and the acceptance of customary behaviors, ways of thinking and
ways of communicating (Burdick Will Gomez, 2006). Multiculturalism is often
contrasted with the concept of assimilation and has been described as a melting pot .
This paper will examine the history and current political trends of both bilingual
education and multiculturalism. The distinct aspects of, and the relationship between
bilingual education and multiculturalism will be discussed and conclude with modern
day trends.
Bilingual education in the United States public school system has a long standing
social and political history that has been plagued by debates about its goals and
effectiveness. The policies have typically been informed by theory aimed at
identifying the best methods to provide
English instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs), and research on bilingual
education program effectiveness. However, perceptions about
Descriptive Essay On The Experience In The Beach

their time reading. Withdrawal from reality links all hobbies together. Likewise, I
like to achieve this liberation by sailing. Imagine the windgusting across your body,
the smell of the strong scent of water in your nostrils, and the thrill of the breeze
thrusting your boatalong. Personally, I was astounded when I discovered this
microcosm twenty minutes away in the middle of the scorching desert.
Immediately upon exiting the car, the familiar tell tale smell of the lake hit me. The
lake smelled like a combination of a fish and algae scent that seemed slightly putrid
nevertheless, it did not detract from the experience. On blustery days, I felt the
zephyr blow through my hair and saw the telltale whitecaps forming on the water s
surface. On sunny days I saw the afternoon sun make the greenish brown water
glimmer majestically and reflect off of the glass in the high rise buildings.
Nonchalantly, I ambled to the gated boatyard adjacent to the parking lot to retrieve
my boat.
Casually, I sauntered just beyond the middle of the yard to the section where my
class stored the boats. Following a cursory inspection, I culled one that appeared to
be in satisfactory shape and pushed it out of the yard towards the lake. If I had luck
on my side a friend would also help me with this, nonetheless, I hold the opinion

Being a manager can present several problems for certain people. Woman in

Discovery of a fossil skull points to the origins of Ice Age megafauna
It s an August afternoon in the Zanda Basin in southwestern Tibet, in the foothills

Subsequently, when Pleistocene conditions in Arctic areas became suitable, the
woolly rhinos were able to spread into that region. They were preadapted for life in
the bitter cold of winter snows.
FROM THIS REASONING our out of Tibet hypothesis was born. The Pleistocene
was the heyday of so called megafauna, mammals weighing 100 pounds or more,
many larger than their modern relatives They included the woolly rhinos, giant
sloths, and saber toothed cats, all now extinct. We envision ancestral megafauna
using high altitude Tibet, with its cold habitat and thin air, as a training ground
where they evolved anatomies and behaviors that later served them well in an Ice

Tibet could have also been a cradle for other such
Essay on The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low

The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets
The low carbohydrate diets and the low fat diets both claim to be successful methods
of losing weight and staying healthy. Both diet plans also attempt to carry out their
goals by restricting what dieters can and cannot eat in relation to what is
recommended by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through altering what
nutritionists suggest for a healthy regime, low carbohydrate and low fat meal plans
potentially put dieters at a higher risk for developing health problems and diseases.
Also, diet plans do not necessarily accomplish their goals when maintained over a
long period of time.

The low carbohydrate diets recognize this and suggest that by nearly eliminating
carbohydrates from the diet, it will prevent the human body from accumulating too
much fat, and will force the body to burn already stored fats and proteins for energy
instead. Low fat diets, on the other hand, claim that fatty foods are much easier to
convert to body fat compared to carbohydrates. They also contend that complex
carbohydrates are a better source of energy for the body, due to the fact that the body
takes a longer amount of time to digest and thus process the carbohydrates.
Altering the recommended nutritional schedule implies potential health risks and
problems. Since the low carb diets like Atkins largely restricts the amount of
carbohydrate intake, it limits along with it beneficial chemicals found in
carbohydrates such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and antioxidants, that may help
prevent heart disease, cancer, and other disorders.1 Also, a decrease of
carbohydrates greatly increases the risk of osteoporosis which can lead to bone
fractures, spinal collapse and nerve damage. The increase in fatty foods that results
from the Atkins diet is also potentially harmful, and can increase the risk of heart
disease and raises cholesterol levels. The increase of carbohydrate intake
recommended by the low fat diets, however, can elevate blood sugar and blood fat
amounts. This is also hazardous, particularly for individuals who are diabetic or

Vengeance And Vengeance In Beowulf
V is for Vengeance
Anglo Saxon culture consisted of receiving fame, glory, and wealth through acts of
vengeance and courage. Beowulf portrays these parts in great detail and shows how
destabilizing it can be. Through acts of vengeance, a never ending war occurs.
It is said in Beowulf that old tongues poke and prod youngsters to wars with
incendiary comments like, That sword, that previous old blade over there, I think
you know it friend. Your father carried it, fought with it the time he could swing a
sword; The Danes killed him and many more of our men and stripped the dead
bodies; The brave, bold Danes! (Beowulf pg. 86]. These words prompt the youngsters
to thirst for vengeance and glory with the mention of how their ancestors ... Show

In this quote, Beowulf believes that it would be cowardly to fight Grendel with a
sword and that facing him with only his hands is the only way to do it right. The
word struggle really shows how an Anglo Saxon life must be lived. In Anglo
Saxon culture, you had to show signs of struggle for everything you owned or else
it would seem as though it were illegitimate and others would look down upon you
if items or positions were just given to you. Those who take vengeance with
courage are thought deserving of the wealth they get from those of high social
status according to Anglo Saxon culture. A courageous warrior can earn quite a lot
and you can see this after the defeat of Grendel and Hrothgar states And take, in
return, whatever you may want from whatever I own. Warriors deserving far less
have been granted as much, given gifts and honored, though they fought no enemy
like yours. Glory is now yours forever and ever; your courage has earned it, and
your strength ( Beowulf pg,43]. Hrothgar is telling Beowulf that anything he has is
his. Beowulf showed great strength and courage when fighting Grendel and because
of that, Hrothgar believes that the glory Beowulf has earned is now unassailable.
Hrothgar uses words like courage and strength to show real admiration for Beowulf.
He knows that these are the words that warriors like to hear and what the Anglo
Saxons revere
Pros And Cons Of Pacifiers
Pros and Cons of Pacifiers
Your infant is crying. She looks exceptionally miserable: She has her mouth open,
her eyes pressed close, and her clench hands gripped. You ve taken a stab at all that
you can consider quieting her down breastfeeding, strolling her in the stroller,
delicately shaking her and singing to her.
In your palm you hold what you expect will be the appropriate answer a pacifier.
However, before you pop that binkie in her mouth, consider the numerous ways
utilizing it could influence your infant s wellbeing. Most children have a solid sucking
reflex. A few infants even suck their thumbs or fingers before they re conceived. Past
nourishment, sucking frequently has a relieving, quieting impact. That is the reason
many guardians rank pacifiers as absolute necessities, straight up there with diaper
wipes and infant swings.
Are pacifiers truly OK for your child, however? Comprehend the advantages and
dangers of pacifier usage critical wellbeing tips and ventures to help wean your infant
from the pacifier.
The Pros
An approach to alleviate: The measure of time a newborn child spends crying
increments from birth until around a month and a half, when an infant weeps for a
normal of three hours per day. That is a great deal of crying anxiety. Sucking
without a doubt quiets a child which is the reason pacifiers are so prevalent.
Pacifiers can be alleviating for children. On the off chance that your infant is testy or
fastidious, a pacifier may enable him or her
Tissue Ownership Essay
Morgan Boudreaux
Mrs. Romero
English II, 3rd Block
23 September, 2013
Tissue Ownership I think people are morally obligated to allow their bits and pieces
to be used to advance knowledge to help others (Korn). Different people have
opposing opinions on the topic of whether or not patients or doctors own the body
tissues after it s been removed from the patient. Ownership is the act, state, or right of
possessing something. Tissue ownership is different from ownership because once it
leaves your body, you no longer own it. Contributing your tissues to the science
world is superior because you can speed up medical advances, avoid litigation, and
become a better individual by contributing to science and society. One of the most ...

Eventually, Moore hired a lawyer, who discovered that Golde had used Moore s
Spleen to develop a valuable immortal cell line named Mo. Moore filed a lawsuit,
claiming that his bodily tissues were his own property, and that Golde had stolen
them. A series of rulings and appeals about his case launched an intense national
debate. Golde won because he s the one who made the cells valuable. He did all of
the work. This situation relates to this debate because if the doctor s would have
had ownership over the tissues in the first place, none of this would not have
happened. This also proves that the law is on the doctor s side. If doctors had
ownership of the tissues and the right to do whatever they wanted to them, they
would not have to go through all this trouble. Lastly, you can become a better
person by contributing to science and society. Since everybody benefits,
everybody can accept the small risks of having their tissue scraps used in research
(Korn). Basically, donating your cells to science in order to help millions of
people is morally the right thing to do. This is also a respectable thing to do.
People should take pride in knowing that they have saved other peoples lives. It s
not as if scientists are stealing your arm or some vital organ. They are using tissue
scraps you parted with voluntarily (Skloot). It s not like they are taking a major part
of your body away, it s something that you don t even need. It is

  • 3. Military Justice System The United States has a comprehensive and vigorously protected system for ensuring the rights of defendants in criminal trials conducted in the State and Federal courts. Among these protections are the right to an attorney, the right to remain silent in lieu of making self incriminating statements, the right to a trial by an impartial jury, the presumption of innocence, and the exclusion of evidence obtained in violation of the constitutional rights of the accused. The brave men and women of the United States armed forces have laid their lives on the line in defense of these rights and the others that we enjoy as American citizens, and yet they are systematically denied these same rights by the military justice system. The military justice system has two important components: The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which is essentially the set of laws that govern military personnel, and the Manual for Courts Martial (MCM), which outlines the rules of procedure for courts martial and the military rules of evidence. While, on the surface, these documents appear to establish a system very similar to the civilian court system that most Americans are familiar

  • 6. Benefits Of An Ehr For Medical Records Discussion Although the general population has concerns about who has the ability to access their medical records, data has been put into place showed that the general population knows that having an EHR would be beneficial (Thede, 2010). Research has suggested that patients, providers and insurance companies have benefited from EHRs because insurance companies do not have to pay for duplicate testing as well as patients and providers having the ability to increase the quality of care that is provider (Thede, 2010). Not to mention, the patients aren t pained to have to remember every detail of the history when visiting various specialist (Thede, 2010). Moreover, EHR can increase medical staff efficiency and reduce errors, and keeping adverse drug events from happening (Bill to promote electronic health records proposed, 2008). Contrary to the benefits, critics have suggested that the use of EHRs worry people will have to endure more privacy breaches and that utilizing the EHRS will be cumbersome for physicians especially if the physicians are using the EHR in the room with a patient (Knooper, 2008). To elaborate on the negative aspect of using the EHR, a Luddite who does not want to embrace technology feels that using an EHR will only cause him/her to miss diagnostic clues if he/she does not take a person s medical history by hand with pen or paper which could potentially lead to a misdiagnosis (Knooper, 2008). Some physicians claim that using an EHR while in the room with
  • 7. Mark Antony Rhetorical Analysis Mark Antony s use of rhetorical devices helped turn the crowd against the conspirators in multiple ways in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Mark Antony was Caesar s best friend and right hand man. Caesar was killed by the conspirators because they thought he was ambitious and was trying to take all the power and become king. The conspirators gave Antony specific rules for what he could and could not say when he gave his speech at Caesar s funeral. Mark Antonys use of motifs, personality traits, and rhetorical devices such as the appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos, and repetition in Julius Caesarhelp convince the crowd to rebel against the conspirators. Mark Antony s appeal to the crowd s ethos, logos, and pathos, helps him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mark Antony says, Yet Brutus says he [Caesar] was ambitious. This quote was used a grand total of three times in act 1 scene 2 on lines 95, 107, and 102. This excerpt is used to show that Caesar was not determined to take the crown and rule Rome. Each time this quote was used, Antony gave examples of how Caesar really wasn t ambitious, such as when he says, I thrice presented him the kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse (3.2.105 106). This quote shows that if Caesar really was ambitious, then he would have taken the crown and become king, but instead he refused. Not only did he refuse once, but three times. These examples shows many examples as to why Caesar was not ambitious did not want to be king. Antony repeats the phrase, And Brutus is an honorable man. This quote was repeated in act one scene two in lines 96, 103, and 108. Each time this quote is said, Antony had recently described why Brutus is honorable, such as when he says, He hath brought many captives home to Rome (3.2.97). This quote paints Brutus as a hero for bringing Roman people held in foreign lands home. The quote also brings to question Brutus s own motives, questioning if he performed these gallant acts because he himself is ambitious. The quote also questions why Brutus conspired against his best friend if he is so honorable. Antony talks a lot about Honorable men or Honorable man. He uses the quotes for a collective total of seven times. The quotes are used in act one scene two in lines 91, 92, 103, 108, 136, 149, 163. Antony was given a set of specific rules before giving his speech, one of which was that he can not talk bad about the conspirators. Antony uses the word honorable to make it seem as though the truthful and possibly bad things he says about the conspirators was not as bad since they were still honorable, but none the less, Antony got
  • 8. Gas Exchange Or External Respiration Gas exchange or external respiration is where we get oxygen from the air into the blood and remove waste carbon dioxide from the blood into the air. Gas exchange happens in the lungs between the alveoli (air sacs) and a network of tiny blood vessels called capillaries. The capillaries are located in the moist thin walls of the alveoli. The alveoli give the lungs a really big surface area for diffusion to take place. There are millions of alveoli in the lungs. When inhalation occurs oxygenis taken in through the mouth and nose flowing along the trachea and bronchial tubes to the alveoli of the lungs. The breathed in air, which is now rich with oxygen comes into contact with the bloodin the capillary network surrounding the alveoli, which
  • 9. Analysis Of Alfred Hitchcock s Film Psycho A false protagonist is someone who is portrayed as the main character at the beginning of the film. This character is later obliterated, usually by making them a lesser character, which reveals them as the antagonist, or killing them. By saying they are a lesser character, they are slightly less relevant within the story than the protagonist. The characters of antagonists are often flat or simple, as it contrasts the development of the protagonist. This literary technique is used as a plot twist to make a film more memorable. The audience has a pre conceived idea about the protagonist and their significance to the story. This idea turns out to be false making the film s storyline more surprising and indelible. In Alfred Hitchcocks film Psycho this technique is used and gives the film a whole new meaning than it would have if the film kept the original protagonist, Marion Crane, as the main character. The false illusion lets us invest into knowing more about Norman Bates (Marion s killer) and what really makes him so psychotic. A scene from the film Psycho that briefly hints to the change that is going to happen is the scene where Norman Bates looks through the hole in the wall to watch Marion Crane get ready for her shower. This shifts what the viewer is seeing, from Marion s point of view to Norman s point of view. The viewer suddenly begins to identify with Norman and see things from his perspective. Throughout the beginning of the film the viewer was shown Marion s
  • 10. Nora In the nineteenth century the typical husband wife relationship consisted of the husband working and providing for his family whilst the wife being completely and financially dependant on him. The status of women in the time period of which this play was written, was that of second class citizen. Women did not have the right to many things that men did and the role of women was mainly restricted to that of a housewife. In his play, A Doll s House , Henrik Ibsenportrays Nora as a regular housewife who goes through an awakening; realizing that she deserved to live a better life filled with more freedom. At the beginning of the play, Nora, the main character, demonstrated that she was okay with this stereotypical relationship; essentially encouraging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To begin, Nora was leaving behind her kids, without looking back, she says, Goodbye, Torvald. I won t see the little ones (3.79). Although in the olden days it was not uncommon for a nanny or nurse to bring up children, Nora leaving behind her children altogether would have a negative effect on them. She said she would not see them again, which might make her children feel as if they were abandoned. Moreover, Nora would risk social deprivation. It is known that women did not have many rights in the nineteenth century, so it would be very difficult to live alone as a women in that time period. An example of this is Christine, she said I only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore (1.11). Christine is living alone, and is finding it hard to live in a society where that is not accepted. Lastly, it would be hard for Nora to financially support herself, since she has depended on Torvald for a very long time. She would often have to ask Torvald for money, since that was the norm in the nineteenth century. For Christmas, Nora asks Torvald You might give me money (1.5). This shows that Nora did not have money of her own, which might make it difficult for her in the
  • 11. Love Love for another often hides a greater love for oneself By a close comparison of your two texts, discuss the representation of sex and seduction. In both Milton s Paradise Lost and Ford s Tis Pity She s a Whore sex is represented as a catalyst for sin. The love which is promised by many of the central characters in the poem and the play often has a falsehood and is used as a facade for the character s true egotistic needs within. One can see a falsehood in Giovanni s admitted love for Annabella which conceals a simply lustful desire for his sister. When demonstrating his love for Annabella, Giovanni focuses solely on her aesthetics, a love that T.S Elliot believed to be merely a carnal infatuation . This can be seen in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the time in which Ford was writing his play, women were expected to obey their father in the choice of a husband. A similar falsehood can be seen in Florio s supposed love for Annabella. He uses a generous display of his care for his daughter as a sign of his own status and lucrative power, My care is how to match her to her liking , telling Donado that I would not have her marry wealth, but love . However, this is simply an exhibition of any genuine interest in his daughter s self government. Annabelle s happiness becomes one more possession he can show off and Florio disguises a devotion to the instruction of his daughter s desire with apparent good intentions and paternal thoughtfulness. Florio however secretly imposes his own choice of husband on his daughter with the promise of his daughter s hand to Soranzo. This falsehood of intention can be compared to Milton s Satan s suggested compassion for Eve. He with show of zeal and love to man... new part puts on and displays his false love for mankind, thus concealing his real intents of temptation. By looking as passion moved and disturbed Satan leads Eve to her eventual fall. Although there are multiple opinions stating that Adam s love for Eve has a lustful falseness, one can see signs of true love in his reluctance to part with her, eventually telling her to Go for thy stay, not free, absents thee more . This marital love can also be seen in Adam s Glorious trial of exceeding
  • 12. My First Semester Of College At Embry Riddle With any course, especially one with a focus as broad as leadership, the material covered may include a range from useful to impractical. It is impossible to learn the skills necessary of an effective leader completely out of a book, it takes the application of them to understand. The development of leadershipis vital to successfully moving forward in any career, so it would be beneficial to cultivate these skills academically. Throughout my first semester of college at Embry Riddle, I noticed that certain changes are evident, while others are more obscure. A significant development that I perceived is through my writing and writing style, especially how it improved compared to my writing in high school. Another change I discovered is how I seemed less introverted earlier in the semester, and now I sense a regression to how I was like before college. However, I learned that after attending this university for the past semester, I became more dedicated to my classes and other things that intrigue me. This is due to how the curriculum and opportunities allows me to delve deeper into my interests. For example, this university provides a range of different clubs, allowing me to join the ones that I am curious about, such as Society of Flight Test Engineers. Due to what Embry Riddle offers the students and the idea of attending college, this change brought the development of myself in several ways. This honors course contained different sources that could be beneficial to me

  • 14. Commitment Of Children s Children commitment to their children. Child s grandmother attended the Flandreau Indian School in the 1920s. She took part in the outing program which meant that she was sent into a local white household to work as a domestic servant. Like most other students, she was not enthusiastic about the program and the servitude; however she did like the sewing classes and needlework that the school offered as part of the domestic training. She learned how to sew quilts and pillowcases for members of her own family. One of her grandmother s fondest memories was of the other students at the school many of them Sioux who spoke the Dakota language. Although the assimilationists were committed to the repression of trial languages and culture, the Indian students learned each other s tribal languages as well as English. Child believes her grandmother was a fairly typical student of the era her father was a widower and single parents often sent their children away for school because reservation life was often harsh and unpredictable for both children and adults. • 15. Pros and Cons of Censorship in Schools Censorship is the process of suppressing something that is considered objectionable or offensive (Emert 1). In order for a work to become censored, some authority figure imposes restrictions that establish what would be and would not be allowed to be put in front of the public for people to read. The standards those in authority base their restrictions off of are the standards set by the publishers, producers, and agencies of that work. Censorshipis something that affects many people especially in the school system; it normally causes tensions to rise. This is because someone feels that their First Amendment rights have been violated. This most frequently happens in the school system because parents, students, teachers, and or staff find a work offensive in some way and try to get it removed. They bring it to the school board, and if severe enough, the case is brought before a judge in court. In most cases the person or group that tries to get the work censored, loses the case. In some cases, the person trying to censor does win. According to most school boards, they would say that students have their full First Amendment rights, but that is not always the case. When it comes to the Freedom of Expression, most schools find some way to censor, books, and articles especially. Censorship in schools may have pros and cons, but most feel that there are mostly cons, where censoring is a violation of their First Amendment rights. It violates some of the rights that the First

Life That Inspired My Left Foot Emmanuella Abankwah November 23,2016 The life that inspired my left foot The book I was required to read for my English class was called My Left Foot by Christy Brown. The setting takes place in Dublin, Ireland in 1932. Christy Brown was born into a poor, working class Irish family in Dublin, Ireland 1932. A victim of cerebral palsy, he could neither control his speech nor his movements, apart from his left foot. For the first ten years of his life he was falsely believed to be intellectually disabled. Christy Brown was born in Ireland in 1932, after a difficult birth and with a serious disability that the doctors of the time were unable to name. They urged his parents not to place their trust in him, as he was, they believed, an imbecile After he was born, his parents then had five other children, all healthy. Christy s mother, however, refused to systemize him, keeping him at home and treating him with tender care. It would not be until years later that she would learn that Christy s affliction was severe cerebral palsy. At the age of 5, he wrote his first letter , A , on a chalkboard using his left foot. His left foot proved to the family he was not an imbecile but a human being able to think and express his thoughts. His mother was resolute to teaching her son the basics of

Clearly this is an open and shut case because the district court granted the summary judgment to DC Comics for both the copyright and the trademark... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was agreed that all claims would be dismiss and on February 22, 2013 the court entered an agreement that is consistent with stipulation, which would later result in Towle appealing (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 16). For DC to be able to win their case, they must be able to prove that they own a copyright for the Batmobile as it appeared in the 1966 television show and the 1989 movie. They must also prove that Towle s replicas infringed on their copyright and that the creation of them was unauthorized (caselaw.findlaw.com, para. 18). In the appeal court, it is concluded that the Batmobile character is the property of DC and is copyrightable; therefore Towle did infringe upon DC Comics s rights when he produced unauthorized works of the Batmobile. The ruling of the district court is then affirmed (caselaw.find.com, para. 49). The court first answered Towle s original argument that the Batmobile is not copyrightable as it appears in not only the television series and the motion picture by using the case New Line v. Bertlesman Music Group. In this case, it is argued that Zomba, a musican, has infringed New Line s copyright on the A Nightmare on Elm Street in the music video A Nightmare on My Street. Bertlesman Music Group represents Zomba in this case (law.justia.com, para 1). This case acts as a precedent for DC Comics v Towle, because the music video was not related to the film series yet featured a character that was
  • 19. Language And Human Communication Introduction Language is the way of human communication. It is how thoughts, feelings, knowledge, opinions, beliefs, mannerisms and intentions are communicated and shared. Language is typically thought to just be spoken or written, however it has many depths. Language can be communicated through gestures, glances, changes in tone of voice and other supplementary communication devices to emphasize what we say and do (O Neil, 1998 2009). Humans are the only species to have a known language communication. Most non human species can link information between each other however no other species is known to have such a complex communication structure such as language (Gee, 2011). Language can be observed and deconstructed in many ways. It can be viewed as both an object and a social process. It can be thought of as a set of rules or something physically presented to the world in way of speech, audio or writings. The denotation of language differs depending on the demographic, more specially, culture. It is important to understand and accept all differing varieties of language. Although language is used everyday, it is a very complex tool with many levels. Language can be both an object to be analysed and a social process To view language as only an object, it must first be separated from human communication in which the full meaning of language originates (Grugeon and Gardner, 2000). The National Literacy Strategy suggests the study of an analogy such as the study of a fish in its

Dark Knight Themes The Dark Knight Drama Films are a genre that show serious stories, they re more realistic than other genres out there because quite often they deal with real life situations. The characters always have some kind of conflict; they show humans at their worst, best, and in between. There s a wide range of themes for drama films, to name just a few: current issues, societal ills, injustice, political unrest, corruption of power, and corrupt societal institutions. The Dark Knight touches on quite a few of these themes. Joker in his own twisted way spends a majority of the film trying to show Batman how corrupt Gotham is. Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight is a haunted film that leaps beyond its origins and becomes an engrossing tragedy. It creates characters we come to care about. This film, and to a lesser degree Iron Man, redefine the possibilities of the comic book movie. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94% with an average rating of 8.6 out of 10. Its critics consensus says: dark, complex and unforgettable, The Dark Knight succeeds not just as an entertaining comic book film, but as a richly thrilling crime saga. The two scenes that stuck most with me were both between the Joker and Batman, the interrogation scene and the final scene of the film between them. What made those two scenes so strong was the writing and the acting, both actors were fantastic, and even though the Joker is clearly insane, some of things he said did ring true about

Other individuals know about the true story of Pocahontas and how she was taken from her homeland and paraded around to show the world that Indians could be tamed. But what if she never met John Smith and helped him? What would have happened to society then? I believe that there would have still been tension between the British and the Native Americans in the area. There would have been no truce since Pocahontaswould have never been to England. Tensions were thick between the English and the Native Americans and Argall needed the things that Pocahontas s father had taken. He set a trap and had her captured, sending her off to Jamestown under the care of Reverend Alexander Whitaker. Whitaker taught her English customs and religion. It is here that she met John Rolfe and married him. This caused a truce between the Powhatans and the colonists in Virginia. Pocahontas was then converted to a Christian and was baptized under the name of Rebecca. They had a son not too long afterwards. The company that funded the settlement of Virginia decided to use the marriage to their advantage and funded the Rolfe s trip back to England. Rolfe would then take Pocahontas (or Rebecca) back to England with him where she was shown around. In the year 1617, the family was meant to travel back to England but Pocahontas fell ill and died of an unknown disease. With the death of Pocahontas and Powhatan, relations between the English in Virginia and the Powhatans soon deteriorated as the Pocahontas truce fell away into shambles. These tensions would continue as the English grew greedier for land and food from the Indians. But, because of Pocahontas, the two different cultures lived in a form of peace with each other and other countries across the Atlantic Ocean saw that there was a possibility

Tidal Energy In Nova Scotia Over the years, Nova Scotia has been trying to make the transition into using more renewable energy, as conventional energy is very harsh on the surrounding environment. This can be a difficult task, as renewable energy is much more costly and is less reliable than conventional energy. Conventional energy is beneficial for Nova Scotia because the resources needed are abundant and affordable (Scheid, page 1). Just seven years ago, Nova Scotia was at 10% renewable generation and in 2015, by law, Nova Scotia Power had to get that number up to 25%. By 2020, the province should be at 40% renewable generation so something must be done over the next few years to get Nova Scotia there. This is why tidal energy generation would be much more efficient than hydroelectricity energy generation in Nova Scotia because there are not many strong flowing rivers. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) located in California stated that the Bay of Fundy had potential to be the best site in North America for tidal energy generation. I believe that Nova Scotia should take advantage of these tides and use them as an important resource for our province. After the costs of the infrastructure and maintenance, tidal energy generation would be essentially free, as the tides move on their own. A lot of energy can be created through tides, as tidal power is very sensitive to speed. The amount of energy formed is the cube of the speed of the water. For example, if the speed of the flowing water doubles, the energy output is eight times greater. This energy can be formed from both the change in the height of tides, which is potential energy, and the flow of the water, which is kinetic energy.. As of now, the main technologies used are in stream devices, barrages, and tidal lagoons. I think the best solution for Nova Scotia right now would be to build a tidal lagoon in the bay of Fundy. A tidal lagoon is like a barrage (which is essentially a dam built across the whole estuary) but it can be built as a self contained structure. This makes the cost much lower and they can also continuously generate, unlike a

Do this, do that, you lazy heap of dirt (2). Coming from the first passage of Emma Donoghue s Kissing the Witch sets a revision of popular fairy tales whereas internal voices, seen as personal experience, and their comparison to external voices, seen as societal expectations, create places where these stories change. This shift can be seen as a move away from the original well known story or aspects of that particular story, while also representing a change in the narratorof the story itself. The passage above for instance occurs when a cinderella type character is introduced to the reader. These internal voices are normally associated with the external voices of the evil stepmother and stepdaughters, which is associated widely with a common thread within the cinderella story itself. This revision flips what is normally seen as an external voice and internalizes it. A few pages later we see the girl and her interaction with the prince after he proposes marriage. The voices were shrieking, Yes yes yes say yes before you lose your chance you bag of nothingness. I opened my teeth but no sound came out (7). While the passage above set up the idea of internal voices, this passage shows how this internalized external voice is not the voice of the cinderella type narrator. Not only does this completely rewrite what is considered the normal ending for the

The Challenge The need for data, collaboration, trust and successful peer training are the most important aspects of developing the program I am going to design. As a first year Department Head of the Fine Arts Department within a large public school, I have been assigned the task of leading this department from a regular grading system to a Standards Based Grading system. This type of change is what Schlecty (2007) describes as a systematic change. According to Zepeda (2012), this type of change is the least understood and the most difficult to achieve (pg. 26). This is especially true for educators such as those on my team, whose teaching techniques have been the same for many years. The implementation of standards based grading uproots almost every aspect of classroom teaching. Grade scales are different, assessments are greatly different and the idea of remediation is paramount to SBG. While this conversion may not seem like a difficult task for a teacher, there are several factors that make it extremely challenging for myself to convince others to support. For one, all other 7 faculty members in the department have been teaching at the school for a few years longer than myself. This is why trust is one of my main key elements on which to focus. Having taught in another part of the state for many years, I must find a way to prove to them that I am on their team and will do everything in my power to keep their interests and concern on the top of the list.

Despite the long history of music, it was not until the 1920 s when a genre emerged that was the first to originate from black individuals on the streets, be made by the working class, and feature traditional African instruments (Moore 89). This genre was Son. Son music began in eastern Cubaand then slowly spread across the nation as individuals migrated to find opportunities or got called into duty in the Cuban military. Eventually, the music was spread across Cuba and Havana became known as the center for Son music. The spread of Son music went further than just Cuba it became a worldwide phenomenon. Considering Son music incorporated various African traditions, the genre was not able to bring full racial equality and faced many challenges when being promoted in Cuba. Considering the origin of Son was in the black streets, the African culture has strong ties with the music. Son embraces various parts of African traditions, including the instruments, beats, and words. The main African cultures that contributed to the genre was Santeria and AbakГєa ceremonies; both of these ceremonies contain sacred drumming and songs to their religions (Moore 91). The music in these sacred ceremonies was incorporated into Son. This allowed the African traditional music to spread as Son grew in popularity. Whether they loved the music

While woman are able to complete the task just as easily and capable as a male can, it is often harder for higher level management to look past these issues. • 41. Woolly Rhino Research Paper Discovery of a fossil skull points to the origins of Ice Age megafauna It s an August afternoon in the Zanda Basin in southwestern Tibet, in the foothills of the Himalayas. I am wandering aimlessly in a patch of badlands, slightly lightheaded owing to the more than 14,000 foot elevation, scanning the ground for any signs of fossils, or for that matter, anything that might distract me from the monotony of a day of fruitless search. It is late into our field season, and besides a tooth fragment or two, I have little to show for a day s work, something all vertebrate paleontologists learn to endure. On impulse I head farther west along a layer of rusty yellow sandstone, and there I see a piece of reddish brown bone sticking out of the dirt. A few quick sweeps of my brush reveal a ring shaped bone. Upon digging it out, I recognize it is an atlas the neck vertebra that connects with a skull possibly from a rhinoceros. Not a ... They were preadapted for life in the bitter cold of winter snows. FROM THIS REASONING our out of Tibet hypothesis was born. The Pleistocene was the heyday of so called megafauna, mammals weighing 100 pounds or more, many larger than their modern relatives They included the woolly rhinos, giant sloths, and saber toothed cats, all now extinct. We envision ancestral megafauna using high altitude Tibet, with its cold habitat and thin air, as a training ground where they evolved anatomies and behaviors that later served them well in an Ice Age climate farther north. A burning question is whether, besides the woolly rhinos, Tibet could have also been a cradle for other such
  • 42. Essay on The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat... The Problems With Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets The low carbohydrate diets and the low fat diets both claim to be successful methods of losing weight and staying healthy. Both diet plans also attempt to carry out their goals by restricting what dieters can and cannot eat in relation to what is recommended by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through altering what nutritionists suggest for a healthy regime, low carbohydrate and low fat meal plans potentially put dieters at a higher risk for developing health problems and diseases. Also, diet plans do not necessarily accomplish their goals when maintained over a long period of time. Diets set regulations on what should or shouldn t be part of a daily nutritional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The low carbohydrate diets recognize this and suggest that by nearly eliminating carbohydrates from the diet, it will prevent the human body from accumulating too much fat, and will force the body to burn already stored fats and proteins for energy instead. Low fat diets, on the other hand, claim that fatty foods are much easier to convert to body fat compared to carbohydrates. They also contend that complex carbohydrates are a better source of energy for the body, due to the fact that the body takes a longer amount of time to digest and thus process the carbohydrates. Altering the recommended nutritional schedule implies potential health risks and problems. Since the low carb diets like Atkins largely restricts the amount of carbohydrate intake, it limits along with it beneficial chemicals found in carbohydrates such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and antioxidants, that may help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other disorders.1 Also, a decrease of carbohydrates greatly increases the risk of osteoporosis which can lead to bone fractures, spinal collapse and nerve damage. The increase in fatty foods that results from the Atkins diet is also potentially harmful, and can increase the risk of heart disease and raises cholesterol levels. The increase of carbohydrate intake recommended by the low fat diets, however, can elevate blood sugar and blood fat amounts. This is also hazardous, particularly for individuals who are diabetic or

Beowulf portrays these parts in great detail and shows how destabilizing it can be. Through acts of vengeance, a never ending war occurs. It is said in Beowulf that old tongues poke and prod youngsters to wars with incendiary comments like, That sword, that previous old blade over there, I think you know it friend. Your father carried it, fought with it the time he could swing a sword; The Danes killed him and many more of our men and stripped the dead bodies; The brave, bold Danes! (Beowulf pg. 86]. In this quote, Beowulf believes that it would be cowardly to fight Grendel with a sword and that facing him with only his hands is the only way to do it right. The word struggle really shows how an Anglo Saxon life must be lived. In Anglo Saxon culture, you had to show signs of struggle for everything you owned or else it would seem as though it were illegitimate and others would look down upon you if items or positions were just given to you. Those who take vengeance with courage are thought deserving of the wealth they get from those of high social status according to Anglo Saxon culture. A courageous warrior can earn quite a lot and you can see this after the defeat of Grendel and Hrothgar states And take, in return, whatever you may want from whatever I own. Warriors deserving far less have been granted as much, given gifts and honored, though they fought no enemy like yours. Glory is now yours forever and ever; your courage has earned it, and your strength ( Beowulf pg,43]. Hrothgar is telling Beowulf that anything he has is his. Beowulf showed great strength and courage when fighting Grendel and because of that, Hrothgar believes that the glory Beowulf has earned is now unassailable. Hrothgar uses words like courage and strength to show real admiration for Beowulf. He knows that these are the words that warriors like to hear and what the Anglo Saxons revere

  • 47. Tissue Ownership Essay Morgan Boudreaux Mrs. Romero English II, 3rd Block 23 September, 2013 Tissue Ownership I think people are morally obligated to allow their bits and pieces to be used to advance knowledge to help others (Korn). Different people have opposing opinions on the topic of whether or not patients or doctors own the body tissues after it s been removed from the patient. Ownership is the act, state, or right of possessing something. Tissue ownership is different from ownership because once it leaves your body, you no longer own it. Contributing your tissues to the science world is superior because you can speed up medical advances, avoid litigation, and become a better individual by contributing to science and society. One of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, Moore hired a lawyer, who discovered that Golde had used Moore s Spleen to develop a valuable immortal cell line named Mo. Moore filed a lawsuit, claiming that his bodily tissues were his own property, and that Golde had stolen them. A series of rulings and appeals about his case launched an intense national debate. Golde won because he s the one who made the cells valuable. He did all of the work. This situation relates to this debate because if the doctor s would have had ownership over the tissues in the first place, none of this would not have happened. This also proves that the law is on the doctor s side. If doctors had ownership of the tissues and the right to do whatever they wanted to them, they would not have to go through all this trouble. Lastly, you can become a better person by contributing to science and society. Since everybody benefits, everybody can accept the small risks of having their tissue scraps used in research (Korn). Basically, donating your cells to science in order to help millions of people is morally the right thing to do. This is also a respectable thing to do. People should take pride in knowing that they have saved other peoples lives. It s not as if scientists are stealing your arm or some vital organ. They are using tissue scraps you parted with voluntarily (Skloot). It s not like they are taking a major part of your body away, it s something that you don t even need. It is
