Analysis Of Hassan V. City Of New York
In this particular case, Hassan v. City of New York, a variety of issues have been raised that intersect
with the idea of government surveillance on these Muslim Communities. This case does not utilize a
federal or state RFRA, but rather focuses strictly on determining the legal validity of the government
surveillance program of Muslim Americans. The Plaintiffs have argued that the NYPD s government
surveillance program has violated the equal protection, establishment, and free exercise freedoms of
the constitution. To understand these issues, it is important to examine each of these issues one by one.
First, there is the issue of equal protection. The issue the plaintiffs raise here is whether the
government can legally single out and discriminate against these Muslim Americans based purely on
religion. Currently, religion is not seen as a suspect classification unlike race, because it can be
changed, yet for most people, identifying with or practicing a religion is an immutable part of their
identity as a person. The plaintiffs argue that choosing to surveying the Muslim Community in
particular should be viewed as unconstitutional discrimination, while the NYPD argues that
surveillance on the Muslim community based on their religious affiliation and classification is well
within their constitutional rights, since religion doesn t fall into the same suspect classification
categories of race and gender. The opinion in Third Circuit Court of Appeals complicates this issue

Carson 2015 Student Number: 1302170 Words: 2113 Critically discuss the value of the concept of
social defences, in explaining why organisations* may fail to meet their primary task. Introduction
Freud (1894) believes the ego uses defense mechanisms to protect itself from anxiety, which arises as
a byproduct of the conflict between the competing demands of the id and the superego. Building on
Freud s theory, Klein (1959) theorised that the infant experiences anxiety in its first few months of life
and deals with it by splitting and projective identification. The internal persecutory anxiety is
projected onto the breast and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The analogy of an iceberg is often used to demonstrate that what lies below the surface of the water
(the unconscious) is greater than that which is visible above the water (the conscious). These anxiety
defense mechanisms are important in that they shape an individuals behaviour, which in turn will have
an effect on the individual within and organisation and in turn can affect the organisation as a whole,
not least as regards anxiety that arises when confronted by change. Using these psychoanalytic
theories, this paper will give a greater insight into the understanding of the functioning of
organisations, with an emphasis on anxiety and change and the ways in which individuals and groups
defend against this thus failing to achieve the group s primary task. This paper will use ideas that
began with Freud and further developed by Klein and then Bion particularly Bion and his study of
groups. *For the purpose of this essay, the terms group and organisations will be used intermittently. A
Potted History Before the 1930s, the investigation of groups and organisations was not a generally
recognised theory of study (De Board, R 1978). Psychoanalytic theory initially concentrated on
individuals and was first extended to group life by Freud (1922) Later, Melanie Klein s (1946) object
relations theory both built upon and departed from Freud s theories and

Cape Cod Kitchen
Many Cape Cod families find it necessary to consider accessibility in designing their kitchen because
of a family member with a disability or because of aging family members who are experiencing some
physical limitations. At this time, there is no code of accessible design for residential homes. There
are, however, sets of guidelines for various levels of home accessibility. Many of the features needed
by persons with disabilities are also attractive and useful to others. If you want to make your
remodeled Cape Cod kitchen more accessible, here are some of the basic steps you might take: Raise
electrical outlets from the standard height of 12 inches to 15 or 18 inches above the floor Consider
wider hallways and doors (34 36 inches) Do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These organizations can also help you find architects and certified kitchen designers in Cape Cod who
have the knowledge and experience to help you make good choices in creating an accessible kitchen.
These organizations can also help you find manufacturers who make the appropriate styles of
appliances. The primary considerations in kitchen accessibility are: 1. Space enough open space in the
appropriate parts of the kitchen to allow someone to turn a wheelchair or a scooter. 2. Access counter
height, appliance design and storage design that is accessible to someone with reaching, bending or
standing limitations. 3. Safety think about and plan for alternative ways to do things, such as moving
heavy items, reaching across cook tops or ranges, ability to reach needed items from a wheelchair.
With some research and thought you can create an accessible and stylish Cape Cod kitchen
remodeling design that will be fully accessible and safe for family members with mobility

Promotion of Social Connections Campus and community provide a welcoming and inclusive
environment that respects individuals while promoting community values. Pariticipation in the
Colleges Transition Collaborative (CTC) Pre Matriculation Social Belonging Intervention exposes
incoming students to stories that normalize and typify the challenges associated with transitioning to
college. This fosters a different mindset in which belonging is viewed as a process that develops over
time. With this mindset, students come to acknowledge that it is normal for everyone to face
challenges and that they have the ability to learn and improve. Diversity programs encompass multiple
efforts such as the availability of campus program houses and a Pre Freshman Summer Program, as
well as events designed to foster inclusiveness, for example the Orientation program, The Identity and
Belonging Project which portrays diverse student narratives about how undergraduates discover a

Pathos In Nick Naylor
Evaluation
Nick Naylor is a lobbyist for cigarettes. He battles everyone who is anti cigarette. Mr. Naylor runs into
trouble in many different ways for defending the rights of smokers. Along the way, Nick twists some
words and becomes the hot topic on TV and in Hollywood. Nick defends against many things thrown
at him. Things such as a cancer boy, the Marlboro man and even the loss of his job. Nick Naylor is
effective and persuasive in argumentation. Mr. Naylor does a great job displaying ethos, logos, and
pathos. Each one of these appeals are important in the use of argumentation. Mr. Naylor is also
effective with fallacies, and even though what he is saying might not be true, it is effective. At the
beginning of the movie, Nick Naylor uses pathos. In the movie the anti tobacco people tried to make
Nick Naylor the bad guy. They brought out a boy that had cancer and tried to make him look bad.
Pathos specifically is trying to draw the emotion sympathy out of the audience. The audience was then
given an option on who to blame. The person they chose was Nick. Effectively, Nick Naylor diverted
the negative press away from him and toward the senator s assistant. Even though Nick was being
bashed by these people he maintained his stance. One thing I noticed about Nick is that he always
presents himself with a smile and with a positive message. He effectively uses pathos by using
positive vibes and then drawing them out from the audience. Also at the beginning of the

Similarities And Differences Between Nippon And Sumitomo
History
Both Nippon and Sumitomo were in their own right players in the steel business. Nippon was first
established back in the 1970s. As for the Sumitomo, this company came to be in the year 1949. It was
in 2012, however the two merged and created what is now observed as the largest integrated steel
producer in the entire world. MSSMC within just a short time period have engaged in joint ventures,
buyouts of production facilities, and become the parent company for/with other specialized steel
industry companies. The company has corporate offices and manufacturing bases across 15 different
companies. Stretching across Asia and even right here in North America NSSMC has become a
leading innovator in technological and manufacturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Industry and NSSMC
This industry is wide open when it comes to products and services. NSSMC is a player in the industry
manufacturing railroad, automotive, and machinery parts. Additionally, the industry in all
encompasses secondary steel products and specialty products like piano wire rods for instance. The
products made in this industry vary from pitch coke (raw material for building production equipment
for semiconductor or solar array panel) to epoxy resins (adhesive). Ultimately many companies in this
industry also become involved in services such as; materials testing, warehousing, consulting services
just to name a few.
Vision and Mission
There are a total of five principles they give in summary to relate what they want to live by as a
company. Integrity and reliability is the primary target for which the company s philosophy is based
on. NSSMC focuses on leading the steel circuit with the latest and greatest improvements in
technology and manufacturing competencies. The last and most attractive part to the NSSMC mission
is their need to have a vibrant workforce. Nippon at its core has aspirations to garner employees who
bring out positive qualities in other associate for the good of the organization.

Underage Drinking And The Long Term Effect
There has been a large amount of research regarding underage drinking and the long term effect that it
can have on a person s body and their mental state. The public is often informed of phases and
activities that underage students are partaking in that can be extremely harmful to themselves that they
are not aware of. In the journal article The Use of Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages Among Underage
Drinkers: Results of a National Survey they examine the relationship between the tendencies underage
drinkers who drink non traditional caffeinated alcoholic beverages and traditionally caffeinated
alcoholic beverages. The study defines non traditional CABs as Pre Mixed Sodas or Energy Drinks
with Liquor added and defined traditional CABs as Liquor with soda, coffee, or tea added by the
beverage consumer.
Previous research in this field has led to the determination that the consumption of caffeinated
alcoholic beverages leads to an increased level of high risk behavior among adolescents and young
adults. Some of these high risk behaviors include driving while intoxicated, unprotected sexual
activity, and illegal substance abuse. In addition, heavy binge drinking is widely accepted as
contributing to neurocognitive deficits and increased morbidity and mortality. Much of the previous
research has focused on college aged young adults. This study hopes to greatly shed light on the age
group from 13 to 17 years old (pre collegiate adolescents). In addition, the study hopes to

Conflict Theory And Crime
Conflict theory has a similar logical consistency and purports that it s the conflict in the society that
results from the difference in social class that causes crime and that as a result of conflicts, laws are
introduced as a necessity, as opposed to general consensus. The social and economic forces that
operate within the society becomes the main cause of crime. The rich and powerful social elites are
thought to control justice and law systems. This makes the poor subjects to control separating them
from the powerful in the society who feel they would steal from them hence they have to protect
themselves from physical attack (Anderson and Anderson 121). To restore the order and ensure justice
to the poor, vigilantes may then

The Labyrinth
To me labyrinth mean that someone having a hard time with a person or a thing.

without making a mistake if not being blame for stuff and stressing out about school or loss of family
that s why I m tired of being stuck, but I can t do nothing about it I m lost and confused like I don t

The Effects Of Psychological Trauma On Women s Childhood...
Quantitative Article Review
The Purpose of the Study.
According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC, 2014), over 60% of insured adults in the U.S. had experienced childhood trauma,
with 16% admitting to multiple types of abuse. This number can be even higher if the study sample
included uninsured individuals, especially those who were in the high risk, low socioeconomic status,
and underrepresented population. Child abuse and neglect can cause both short term and long term
effects, such as improper brain development, impaired cognitive and socio emotional skills, lower
language development, and high risk for chronic diseases, anxiety, and substance abuse (CDC, 2016).
Given this information, the purpose of the study by Grabbe, Ball and Hall (2016) is to explore the
severity of psychological trauma in women who were abused as a child (Grabbe, Ball, Hall, 2016).
The goal is to gain an understanding of what happened during the women s childhood that may have
prevented them from further abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). Consequently, using that information to
conceptualize interventions for prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent abuse (Grabbe,
et al., 2016).
Design, sampling techniques and data collection. Was data collection clearly described and justified?

Ode To The West Wind By Percy Bysshe Shelley
Today we call the English romantic period the time which took place between the metaphysical poets
and the Victorian age. This period was born because it was hard for the laypeople to understand the
great messages the metaphysical poets wrote down. We also should not forget this is the age of the
Great French Revolution. A famous distinctive mark of romantic poems is the presence of nature. This
is also the case with the poem written by Percy Bysshe Shelley called Ode to the West Wind.
Before I jump into the poem itself I found some noteworthy things about Shelley. Hughes (1918) says
that for Shelley nature was extraordinary. We know that he was not a poet who sat inside looking at
nature and saying how beautiful it is. He actually went out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Since the moment of birth we are placed on the dual track. A newborn is wrapped in a pink blanket
emphasizing that the newborn is a female and a newborn wrapped in a blue blanket shows that the
baby is a male. After this moment the newborn male or female are gender scripted. A female is
typically on the pink side of the dual track expected to be sensitive, feminine, dependent and to stay
home to clean the house and take care of her children. On the other hand, a male is on the blue side of
the dual track and suppose to be strong, masculine, independent, head of the household, successful and
aggressive. We are gender intensified three times in our lives, the first time is when we are born we
are place on either the pink or blue side of the dual track emphasizing which track we belong to based
on our gender. The second time is when we are beginning adolescence, during this time one is going
through puberty and is in search for his or her identity leading to once again basing on one s genitalia,
clarifying whether you are a female or a male. The third time is when a couple is going through a
pregnancy, gender scripts are clear indicating that the female will be giving birth to the child therefore
is expected to stay home, while the male is expected to provide and protect in all ways for his family.

The Negative Effects Of Cannabis
Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the
negative effects were too damaging to ignore. Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help
relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is damaging
to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In
recent studies, the findings suggest that long term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing
alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in
hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and
psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray matter volume between groups, they found that
significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with
occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray
matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex, temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula,
and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive
component of cannabis (Δ9 Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose dependent toxicity and
structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect
adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can
occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with
recreational consumption that started during adolescence (before the age of 18). The duration of
exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1
receptors, correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long term exposure to
drugs toward the development of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors is often associated
with deficits in decision making. FMRI demonstrates altered brain activity in core regions linked to
the motivational and affective aspects of decision making, mainly in the ventromedial prefrontal
(VMPFC) and orbitofrontal cortices and insula. In this regard, it has been demonstrated that

Security Plan For Cyber Security
In relation to defence spending, it s visible that there was a positive increase in the year succeeding
2007, directly after the attacks. Though this was dramatically decreased for the following two years,
which can be explained by the global economic downturn which begun in 2008 (Grigor′ev Salikhov,
2009). Therefore it is not possible to conclude that Estonia directly increased spending on defence by
a significant figure because of the events that took place in 2007, but it can be deduced that spending
has had a gradual rise thereafter and is currently based above €500 million euro with sufficient
proportions being allocated to relevant cyber defence mediums which have been ongoing since 2007.

The Danger Of A Single Story By Chimamanda Adicie Essay
Single Stories are Problematic
In the world we live in now it has become easy to stereotype and create a single story about certain
people and situations, whether it s intentional or not. In 2009, a Nigerian novelist named Chimamanda
Adichie gave an amazing TED talk called The Danger of the Single Story . A single story more or less
means an incomplete or inaccurate viewpoint of a person or culture based on a story created from a
single experience. When one hears the same story over and over again, we start believing only that
story. Adichie claims that creating single stories is problematic and rely on power, a single story I
decided to present is how people believe police officers are abusing their power, and I believe the
media is at fault. For one to truly understand a story we must listen to the root of the story. Her speech
made me realize and view things differently. In the The Danger of a Single Story , Chimamanda
Adicie tells her own personal experiences of a single story and how that can become challenging. She
talks about when she started reading and writing at a young age. She read British and American
children s books. When she started writing all her characters were white and blue eyed just like in the
books. It wasn t until writers Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye that she realized people like her,
people of color, could exist in literature. Adichie s says what the discovery of African writers did for
me was this: It saved me from having a single story

media can guide people s comprehension of gender. Therefore, this essay will analyze three different
genres of film and how they construct the gendered meaning by using examples in each part, in order
to explain the powerful influences of the film in gender. The three genres are Road film, Disney film,

From the reason of this feature of detective film is because of the detector as a male dominated career,
the first detective woman only appeared on the police force in the UK in 1914, Philippa (a, 2011). This
situation has reflected in the film, especially in Hollywood Film industry, as Kathleen (2014) in
Overlooking the evidence demonstrated that female detective or the lady crime solver poses a problem
throughout Hollywood film and television. Moreover, most of the detective films are based on the
fiction, Philippa (b, 2011). Especially for the classic male detector of nineteenth century fiction has
used in the well known classic film such as Sherlock Holmes (1903). As William stated in his book
The detective in film (1972), the Sherlock Holmes film series which produced by different companies
become the foundation and mainstream narrative of a detective film. These are the iconic image of
detective and still activated today. Therefore, the use of traditional detective fiction as a script is
another reason why the detective film is male dominated. However, besides the Sherlock Holmes,
women detectors tend to use some distinctive methods to appear in the detective movies that are
different from the detective figure. From the sexuality side, in the early years of women detective
films, although they use female characters as the main detector, they are too old or young to solve

1. How does Sassoon show the depression of the young soldier?
The depression of the young soldier before he commits suicide is clearly displayed in the poem.
At the start of the poem, the image of a happy, young, and perhaps rather naïve boy is placed before
us;
Simple tells us that he is innocent, perhaps rather naïve, and doesn t understand the concept of war.
Grinned at life in empty joy suggests to us that he was pleased by anything, a happy carefree young
man. He was young and had no worries because he enjoyed life and did as he pleased. He made life
seem easy and happy even when times were bad. It also given us a notion of how immature the boy
turned into a soldier and sent to war must have been.

The structure of the poem also adds to the stark change the boy has suffered throughout the war.
Sassoon uses the same structure that a children s rhyme usually has, and this is perhaps intended to
emphasize that this boy, turned into a soldier and driven to suicide, was still just a boy.
The depression of the young soldier is also shown to be shared by many; the eye catching title Suicide
in the Trenches is evidence of this fact. The word trenches further emphasizes that the depression the
young soldier feels is felt throughout all the trenches, and therefore many others in war.
The juxtaposition between the first two stanzas adds to the effect intended upon the reader by
Siegfried Sassoon. He wants us to feel the harsh reality of war; cold, unjust, harsh and depressing, and
the image of a happy young man driven to suicide by war certainly emphasizes this point. This jarring
contrast makes the boy s death a lot sadder and brings out sympathy in the reader.
2. What is Sassoon s view of the crowds which greet the soldiers on their return from the trenches?
The last stanza is very effective in displaying Sassoon s view of the crowds. Throughout this stanza a
bitter, sarcastic, sneering and rather angry tone is used;
You smug faced crowds The use of you makes the reader feel as if Sassoon is addressing the reader,
naming us all guilty of the smug faced cheering and clapping of the

(Autry 64). When she notices that these were the three main topics being shown to the public then it s
a major problem. She felt that the museums had too much power because they were choosing certain
information to be displayed about the struggles of African Americans. The author wants to show that

Therefore, the museum can thrive. She explains that identities are performed ideologies interrogated
and cultural symbols reinvented (Autry 60). The author is trying to say that certain items are displayed
in a museum for a reason by trying to send a certain message. When she talks about how cultural
symbols are reinvented it shows that museums is trying to change the people s perspectives by
creating a new meaning for a certain symbol. Another problem that the author has noticed is that some
parts of the African American culture are disappearing because for example there was a city s decision
to invest in a new commercial enterprise, rather than supporting smaller, more locally oriented
museums. (Autry 75). The government does not support the local museums than it causes issues
because some of the history is lost. The memory is lost from the local regional area, which could have
added a new perspective towards a certain standpoint. While the new museums don t necessarily tell
the entire story and focuses on a specific issue that is selected by a group of

Geocaching is an effective way to spend an afternoon, a day, or a weekend. This procedure seems to

The Royal 22nd Regiment
Although I had been to Canada several times throughout my life I ve rarely had the opportunity to
travel outside of Ontario, only having gone to Montreal once or twice. Québec City seemed both
intriguing as well as slightly concerning due to the predominant language of Québec being French, a
language which I speak very little of. For me, as I read the Itinerary of the trip the one visit that stood
out was the Citadel. The Citadel intrigued me due to the fact that Québec City was one of only two
cities in North America that is still surrounded by fortifications, which meet at the strategically located
military base. Also the idea that this fortress had at one point in time allowed Canada to control the St.
Lawrence River, a river which I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Royal 22nd Regiment is a francophone regiment of the Canadian Regular Force made up of five
battalions. The regiment has been a participant in all of Canada s military conflicts since WWI,
including any United Nations peace missions as well as the war in Afghanistan. The Royal 22nd
Regiment work in an environment where the primary language is French. The battalions of the Royal

order to further the agenda or conflicts of the Canadian government around the world which require
military action. One of the most eerie and incredible buildings throughout the Citadel is the Citadel
memorial which is an area where some soldiers were laid to rest. This Memorial also houses the Royal
22nd Regiment Book of Remembrance, this book lists the names of all the men and women who have
perished while serving the Canadian Government. Each day the page of the book is turned and each
name is read aloud by the sergeant on duty. This tradition is the same as what occurs daily in Ottawa

Oscar Wilde s Character, Jack Worthing, And The Other
Oscar Wilde s protagonist, Jack Worthing, carries on two distinct identities throughout the play. One
of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in
London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to
the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates
with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and
sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same
connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known
several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in
the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a
dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to
be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been
better applied to their counterparts.
The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. The pun depends on not only the
adjective earnest, but after the farce has ended the audience will recognize that there is an actual
importance in being a gentleman named Ernest. In the Victorian era, the idea of earnestness was a
virtue that the people attached the

Soft Body Caterpillar Robot More Efficient Than Current...
Adrian Hammer
Hypothesis:
Soft body caterpillar robot more efficient than current robots.
Topic:
To understand why the inspiration of the common caterpillar is used to create the next generation of
soft structure robots and what they will be used for once they are completed.
Description:
The caterpillar inspired robot is one of the first of its kind using a soft body to mimic that of its
inspired. This is one of the main major points of why I choose to pick this instead of any other biology
related topic simply because if it is the same size as a caterpillar it can be used in a vast majority of
different common day practices.
Relevance:
Since this a new improvement upon current robotic technology all its uses are currently unknown but
with the size of a caterpillar it can adapt to a variety of uses such as doctors. Currently doctors use
small cameras attached to a long wire to observe internals but now with this caterpillar it may be
possible to place this inside a body without the help of aesthetic in a few minutes instead of a lengthy
procedure.
Economically it can open up a variety of jobs in the robotics industry creating more work. This can
then be used to try new technologies, materials and replacing outdated technologies.
Ethically it can be used in a variety of medical practises. Just like stated above it can observe organs
and reduce surgery time. If someone had a blood clot inside them, instead of going into a lengthy
procedure of cutting someone open

Hinduism Women
It is clear in Hinduism that a woman has the same religious and spiritual freedom as men. Like men,
women can attain the same heights of spiritual awakening by taking the path of asceticism. The
Sanskrit language possesses a female equivalent to the male renouncer: there is the sadhvı as well as
the sadhu, the sannyasin as well as the sannyasıni. However, throughout time there have been many
women ascetics in Hinduism who have been greatly respected. In the Vedic period there were as many
as twenty women among the authors of the Rig Veda, known as brahmabadini. They were the

The Best Kind of Sex Education
There is much controversy over which form of sex education should be taught, comprehensive sex
education, or abstinence only sex education. The definition for comprehensive sex education is
responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a
positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual
health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate
and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended
pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex education is a
form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual
abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives. Comprehensive sex
education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have sex. But abstinence only
sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect themselves from STDs and
pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of our nation s schools.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values. Sex
education at that time taught that sexually transmitted diseases were the result of punishment for
immoral behaviors. The discussion over what to teach children about sex in school occurred as early
as 1912. In the 1950 s the

Analysis Of Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
In Toni Morrison s award winning novel Song of Solomon, she fills the novel with deep symbolism.
Macon Dead III, nicknamed Milkman, is a symbolic character throughout the novel. Not only is he as
a character symbolic, but his name is as well. Milkman s aunt, Pilate, has a significant and symbolic
role in the novel. To her father, she represents the child who killed her own mother and took away his
wife. In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is the Roman who is responsible for the execution of Jesus. With that
information, one can say that the name Pilate seems to coincide with her father, Macon Dead s,
opinion on what Pilate represents. What s ironic is that Pilate is a good person and is murdered in the
end, just as Jesus was by Pontius Pilate. Guitar, Milkman s best friend, is another significant character
in the novel who portrays deep symbolism. Guitar is named after something that he wanted very badly
as a child. I saw it when my mother took me downtown with her. I was just a baby. It was one of those
things where you guess how many beans in the glass jar and you win a guitar. I cried for it, they said.
And always asked about it. This unreachable goal describes his character throughout the novel. He is
never able to overcome the obstacles that stand

Irony in Hamlet Essay
Many literary critics point to the considerable irony that exists in Shakespeare s Hamlet. This paper
examines the play for instances of irony and surveys their interpretation by critics.
Howard Felperin comments on Hamlet s ironic consciousness of the fact that he is unable to quickly
execute the command of the ghost:
Eliot s unhappy judgments are worth considering here, if only because they are based on an intuition
of Shakespeare s creative process that is so near to and yet so far from the one presupposed in the
present essay. He imagines Shakespeare grappling with his archaic sources in the attempt to
naturalize, rationalize, and psychologize generally speaking, to streamline and neoclassisize them and

The play begins with the changing of the sentinels on a guard platform of the castle of Elsinore in
Denmark. Recently the spectral likeness of dead King Hamlet has appeared to the sentinels. Tonight
the ghost appears again to Barnardo, Marcellus and Horatio, a very close friend of Hamlet. Horatio
and Marcellus exit the ramparts of Elsinore intending to enlist the aid of Hamlet, who is home from
school, dejected by the o erhasty marriage of his mother to his uncle less than two months after the
funeral of Hamlet s father (Gordon 128). There is a post coronation social gathering of the court,
where Claudius pays tribute to the memory of his deceased brother, the former king, and then, along
with Queen Gertrude, conducts some items of business, for example dispatching Cornelius and
Voltemand to Norway to settle the Fortinbras affair, addressing Polonius and Laertes on the subject of
the latter s return to school abroad. Right at the outset of the drama, there is irony exhibited in the
manner in which Shakespeare characterizes King Claudius he is simply stupendous and yet, shortly
hereafter, he is revealed as a truly evil, thoroughly diabolical sort. George Lyman Kittredge, in his

The segmentation scheme in Intel 80386 microprocessor is more advanced than that in Intel 8086
microprocessor. The 8086 segments start at a fixed location and are always 64K in size, but with
80386, the starting location and the segment size can separately be specified by the user.
The segments may overlap, it allows two segments to share address space. To send the necessary
information, segment tables with segment selector as index are used. At any time, only two segment
tables can be active. They are Global Descriptor Table (GDT) and a Local Descriptor Table (LDT).
This two segment table only can be executed by the operating system.
Segment table is an array of segment descriptors which specify the starting address and the size of the
segment. Each segment descriptor has 2 bits specifying its privilege level, called as the Descriptor
Privilege Level (DPL). This DPL has to be compared with Requested Privilege Level (RPL) and
Current Privilege Level (CPL) before processor grants the access to a segment. If the DPL of the
segment is less than or equals to the RPL as well as the CPL, then the processor will grant access to a
particular segment. This serves as protection mechanism for operating system.

The Idea Of Class Struggle In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
Throughout history, class division has always been a big issue. Many works today, display social
inequality; however to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical lenses help to
see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the composition. There are many
different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the Marxist Theory. Also known as the
Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big divider in society. Although originally
associated with culture and civilizations, this concept also applies to literature. In his play Hamlet,
William Shakespeare clearly demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at this composition
through the lens of the Marxist Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones suppress and manipulates
the others in an attempt to display their superiority. The Marxist Theory is the idea of the German
philosopher, Karl Marx. Society is basically divided into three different classes: the Aristocracy, the
Bourgeoisie, and the Proletariat. The Aristocracy is the royalties, they have control over everything
and everyone; they will do anything to keep their rank and power. The Bourgeois have control over
the economy and the workers. They set the trends and sometimes manipulate beliefs and laws for their
benefits. These people are extremely wealthy and aspire to become even more affluent; which leaves
very little for the Proletariat. At the very bottom of the hierarchy is the

How could the Holocaust have beet prevented
COULD THE HOLOCAUST HAVE BEEN PREVENTED?
You have probably heard about a period of time, not so long ago, known as The Holocaust. A
holocaust, according to Webster s dictionary, is a complete destruction by fire (Stadtler, 1). In Europe,
during this period, there was a complete destruction by fire of Jewish homes, Jewish businesses,
Jewish neighborhoods, and Jewish people. This destruction was carried out under the direction of
Adolf Hitler, during the years 1939 1945, but it actually began earlier, in 1933, when Hitler came to
power in Germany.
In my opinion, the Holocaust, which was caused by ignorance, could very well have been prevented.

With Germans of all outlooks desperately seeking solutions for the nation s problems, Adolf Hitler and
the Nazi Party began their climb to power. Hitler was gifted with effective political talents. He offered
an explanation for Germany s defeat, and a vision of Germany s future destiny, that played upon the
fears, prejudices, and hopes of many Germans. He promised to rebuild Germany s power and restore
its prosperity (Isaacman, 16). This won the support of many Germans. Hitler was such an effective
speaker that anything he said was believed even if it was not true.
Hitler believed that the German people were part of an Aryan race, a superior group that should be
kept pure to fulfill their mission of ruling the world. He felt that the Jewish people were sub human,
when in actuality they were virtually the same as his Aryan race. Not only did Hitler have a personal
hatred toward the Jewish people, but he also blamed them for stabbing Germany in the back after
Germany s defeat in World War I. Hitler used them as scapegoats because they were a minority and
were easy to put the blame on. Historians agree that the Holocaust resulted from a confluence of
various factors in a complex historical situation. That anti Semitism festered throughout the centuries
in European culture is centrally important; the Jews were (and are) a minority civilization in a

Summary Of Martin Luther King And Aung San Suu
The two world known leaders, Martin Luther King, Jr. and India s Aung San Suu, were social activists
who believed that democracy could be achieved through peaceful resistant. Martin Luther King Jr.
believed that its people who sought to stand up against oppressor regimes and fight for equal rights in
the United States of America. On the other hand, the National league for democracy leader, Aung San
Suu Kyi who lived in Burma fought for democracy in her country. Thus, one is right to argue out that
the two world leaders, Martin Luther King Jr. of America and Aung San Suu of India, believed in the
spirit of democracy and equal rights for everybody in their respective countries. The two leaders wrote
articles that have remained to be historical in world politics. The two wrote letters concerning how
their societies looked like and how they wished democracy could be achieved someday. During his
time in jail, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter titled The Letter from Birmingham Jail. The letter
illustrated that he was in jail in Birmingham because of lack of justice and on how discrimination
should not be the order of the day. Comparing Aung San Suu s article, In Quest of Democracy, she
expresses her opinion on democracy and how she has longed to create democracy. In both articles, the
two leaders try to reach out and express their value towards achieving a democratic state. Aung San
Suu Kyi reveals her efforts to achieve a democracy state and how she had fought against the
government through peaceful demonstrations. On the other hand, Martin Luther King Jr. expresses on
how injustices have taken over governance and on how people should rise against such regimes. In
their writings, the two leaders expressed their feelings how they have fought for equal rights and more
rights for their citizens through nonviolent means. They reveal their own experiences in the fight for
justice and democracy without violating the rights of other people. In his letter, King ascertains that he
experienced injustice while he was involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott as well as in the Albany
Movement. As the head of those movements, Dr. King wrote what he underwent though. Injustice

Correlation Between Wood And Aluminum Surfaces And Their...
This experiment examined the relation between wood and aluminum surfaces and their friction. The
coefficient of static and kinetic friction can be derived from the experiments with the use of a
horizontal Atwood s machine and a Super Pulley. The static friction was tested by setting up an
equilibrium with the hanging mass and the frictional force. Three tests were conducted with increasing
additional mass on the friction block. An unbalanced force was required to test for the coefficient of
kinetic friction. This is possible through solving for the acceleration of the unbalanced force. The total
mass of the system is constant through all four of the tests, but different masses were added to the
hanging mass so that the acceleration would have a variety of different accelerations to accurately
solve for the kinetic friction. As a result, our coefficient of static and kinetic friction are μs = 0.26 ±
0.02 and μk = 0.30 ± 0.01 respectively.
Introduction
According to Collin College, the coefficient of static and kinetic friction are μs = 0.30 and μk = 0.20
respectively. However, the lab material has worn out over time, so their coefficient of frictions may be
different from the regular coefficient of friction. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the
coefficient of kinetic and static friction between aluminum and wood in the lab. These were
determined with the use of a horizontal Atwood s machine

Alternative Dispute Resolution And The Different Types Of It
In this essay I will address what alternative dispute resolution is and the different types of it. ADR
stands for Alternative dispute resolution is something that provides an alternative way of settling civil
disputes than the traditional way using the courts. The main forms of Alternative dispute resolution are
being arbitration, adjudication mediation and conciliation, however in the United Kingdom the most
commonly used alternative dispute resolutions are arbitration and mediation but adjudication is
becoming rapidly more popular. Adjudication is another form of alternative dispute resolution that
stems from Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act (Construction Act). This Act was
introduced in 1996 in the United Kingdom. Even though the Act was created to ensure that the process
remains informal, this has recently changed where parties that are in dispute are now serving official
documents such as witness statements, expert reports etc. Though recently The Alternative Dispute
Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015 was
passed and deals with how consumer disputes are handled.
Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution that aims to solve disputes outside the courts by
a third party called arbitrators. The arbitrators review the case facts and evidence and gives out a
verdict that is legally binding and therefore enforceable. Both parties agree beforehand to abide by the
decision that the arbitrators

Essay on Gun Control Rights
One of many controversial topics in the United States is gun control. It is clearly written in the Second
Amendment of the Constitution that the people will have the right to bear arms. Recently; however,
people have been misusing those firearms and have been harming others with them. The government
is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this reason. Some of the
arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the right to be able to control,
and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns. The importance of gun control as
a health issue is a necessity. Each year, the United States has a bit over 8,000 murders with firearms

It also prohibits the ammunition feeding devices for these semiautomatic weapons. (Fienstein 1). With
this being said, the FAWB is an act that supports gun control instead of bearing arms. The Second
Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The
constitution is clearly saying all citizens have the right to be able to own and carry a weapon or
firearm. On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States Supreme Court held in
a 5 4 decision that the Second Amendment protects an individual s right to possess a firearm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home and within federal enclaves
(Cornell 1). This is showing how our founding fathers supported the right to bear arms. Ownership of
certain weapons should be prohibited. Assault rifles and submachine guns are firearms that are never
necessary. The United States should set a goal to having fewer high power weapons available.
However, the only situation to these firearms being more acceptable to use than others, are the warlike
scenarios. The thought of submachine guns and assault rifles being necessary is sickening. What
would be the purpose of owning an assault rifle or submachine guns? Gun bearers

Lord Fogarty Essay
The first poem I will be discussing is Fellow Being by Lionel Fogarty. Sound techniques such as
consonance are used in this poem to invite the reader to understand how Australia can function as an
unwelcoming home to the Indigenous Australians. Fogarty writes in the poem that The kissing of
winds to trees are the love between aborigines . Through the repetition of the soft drawn out s sound in
the words kissing and trees , the quality of the sound portrays a sense of love and safety. Furthermore,
the word kissing , with its connotations of affection and love, and trees with its inferences of freedom
and life emphasises the connection indigenous Australians had with the old Australia. The reminiscent
style of the poem reveals the inhospitable nature of modern Australia towards Aborigines.
Fogarty also uses image techniques such as metaphors to describe the interdependent nature of the
relationship the indigenous Australians had with the land. By emphasizing this important relationship,
Fogarty reveals the fractured bond that the white Australians forced upon the Aborigines. The phrase
aboriginal is the bread equates the indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of consonance in this poem encourages the reader to view modern Australia as an inhospitable
home for indigenous Australians. Noonuccal describes the Aborigines as, A Semi naked band, subdued
and silent . The alliteration of the soft, drawn out s sound in the words subdued and silent conveys to
the reader an atmosphere of silence and forlorn resignation. In particular, the word subdued , with its
connotations of unresponsiveness and being withdrawn, further emphasises the conflict between the
white and indigenous Australians. This conflict ultimately separated the Aborigines from their land,
resulting in Australia becoming a hostile home for the original

International Order And Its Effect On The World s The...
International order, though it may be fleeting in the grand scheme of history, seems to be at least on a
continuous track of lingering longer and longer each time before chaos takes over. The Persians,
Greeks, and Romans all seemed to enjoy ever increasing periods of relative peace at the top of their
systems of international order before it unraveled. Most of Europe was in good order on the tail of the
Industrial Revolution until some arch duke decided to vacation in Sarajevo. After each major conflict,
the world re shuffles itself and order is established again in some form or fashion. The players are
bigger and more numerous with greater consequences for conflict but order is still unseated from time
to time and the rules of the existing orders seem to change daily. Realism can explain this violent
cycle of order and disorder. States and even non state actors continuously seek to balance regional
power in order to secure their survival in a world dominated by fear and uncertainty; if unable to
balance that power through violent means, players will seek to form alliances and organizations to at
least prevent domination; once a status quo has been created and survival is temporarily assured,
players will seek to maintain life within that order; new members thrust the order back into violence
and potentially chaos if unable or unwilling to play by those rules. This cycle of power balancing can
be illustrated in three phases. International orders are created as

What Is The Mood Of The Overcoat
Calcutta, India; Boston, Massachusetts; New York; late 1960 s to the early 2000 s.
The mood of the story is a mix of thoughtfulness, discontent, and displacement.
The point of view is third person omniscient.
The immigration experience, for families, caused a rift with the interactions between the traditional
values of the first generation, and the adapted American values of the second generation.
The story begins with an arranged married Indian couple, who recently moved to America, about to
greet their first child into the new world. When their son is born, Ashoke and Ashima wait to name
their child until a letter from Ashima s grandmother arrives with his name. Due to the hospital s
insistence on a name, the Ganguli s give him a pet name Gogol, a writer whose book saved Ashoke s
life long ago. When Gogol reaches the age to enter school, Ashoke picks a formal name ... Show more

He will walk downstairs with his mother, join the crowded party, photographing the people in his
parents life, in this house, one last time...He will watch her [Ashima] give away leftovers in the
cooking pots themselves...As the hours of the evening pass he will grow distracted, anxious to return
to his room, to be alone, to read the book he had once forsaken, has abandoned until now. Until
moments ago it was destined to disappear from his life altogether, but he has salvaged it by chance, as
his father was pulled from a crushed train forty years ago... For now, he starts to read. (Lahiri, 290
291). This quote characterizes Gogol, and how it took him to the end of the novel to overcome his
initial rejection of his identity. It is now that he searches and embraces the only physical tie left to his
past. Gogol finally completes his inner self journey by being open to his

McNaughton has grown this business from less than nothing, from the failure of a previous enterprise.
However, at this point the business requires analysis and McNaughton s energy must be focused on a
rational and logical alternative not wasted on a multitude of initiatives or focused on an inappropriate
course of action. Guided by appropriate analysis McNaughton s gut and emotion can take P E I
Preserves to the next level.
Environment
Geography is a key element of P E I Preserves environment. The company is linked to P E I and its
reputation for pastoral beauty, to the global image of Anne of Green Gables and, to a lesser extend, to
the less well known reputation for quality of P E I strawberries. However, this geographic association
also limits its reach and public awareness of P E I Preserves. Overall, however, these are all very
positive associations. At the same time the reliance on tourism for walk in customers and the seasonal
nature of fruit production have made the company predominantly a seasonal enterprise. Its current
high price point/quality marketing strategy also introduces it to a variety of competitors.
Predominantly these are British and European products that employ the cachet of their point of origin
to justify their high price point. Other products, some not even manufactured in P E I compete for the

How Did Stephen Jay Gould Support Evolution
Stephen Jay Gould was an American paleontologist, biologist and also one of the most influential
spokesman of his generation. Gould had written a lot of notable papers in which a few have landed
around the word Evolution. Evolution has been divided in to two categories, evolutionists, who
believe that living organisms have modified over a very long period of time and have ended up into
evolving or, creationists who believe that we didn t evolve from any form but that we were made from
a supernatural being God .
Creationists debate about evolution and say that evolution is just a theory and not a fact. Gould knew
this and has explained that Creationists have become ignorant and try to argue when they don t know
the true meaning. Most people use the term theory today as a guess, an idea and thought. In science
theories are ideas that explains facts and therefore theories cannot be facts. Facts on the other hand are
observations that have been confirmed over and over again to be final but it still does not make it final
as today it could be set in stone but tomorrow it could change and be discarded. A fact that is known to
a lot of people and is almost impossible to deny are fossils. We have dug up a ton of fossils and they
leave evidence to how us humans were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explained that evolution is observable in laboratory experiments and certain isolated species like
how they can change color do to this situation and the environment. Secondly he shows that nature
show signs that we have very similar structures and built with the same bones but if we weren t all
connected then why aren t we built and made better. Thirdly he brings up fossils which is the best
evidence known. It is the closest proof we have to evolution. In the end Gould feels disappointed that
a lot of people disapprove of evolution because it s one of the best ideas developed by science. It
brings up great points, where and how we

  • 2. Analysis Of Hassan V. City Of New York In this particular case, Hassan v. City of New York, a variety of issues have been raised that intersect with the idea of government surveillance on these Muslim Communities. This case does not utilize a federal or state RFRA, but rather focuses strictly on determining the legal validity of the government surveillance program of Muslim Americans. The Plaintiffs have argued that the NYPD s government surveillance program has violated the equal protection, establishment, and free exercise freedoms of the constitution. To understand these issues, it is important to examine each of these issues one by one. First, there is the issue of equal protection. The issue the plaintiffs raise here is whether the government can legally single out and discriminate against these Muslim Americans based purely on religion. Currently, religion is not seen as a suspect classification unlike race, because it can be changed, yet for most people, identifying with or practicing a religion is an immutable part of their identity as a person. The plaintiffs argue that choosing to surveying the Muslim Community in particular should be viewed as unconstitutional discrimination, while the NYPD argues that surveillance on the Muslim community based on their religious affiliation and classification is well within their constitutional rights, since religion doesn t fall into the same suspect classification categories of race and gender. The opinion in Third Circuit Court of Appeals complicates this issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Management and Organisational Dynamics (The Psychoanalysis of Groups and Organisations) Cheryl Carson 2015 Student Number: 1302170 Words: 2113 Critically discuss the value of the concept of social defences, in explaining why organisations* may fail to meet their primary task. Introduction Freud (1894) believes the ego uses defense mechanisms to protect itself from anxiety, which arises as a byproduct of the conflict between the competing demands of the id and the superego. Building on Freud s theory, Klein (1959) theorised that the infant experiences anxiety in its first few months of life and deals with it by splitting and projective identification. The analogy of an iceberg is often used to demonstrate that what lies below the surface of the water (the unconscious) is greater than that which is visible above the water (the conscious). These anxiety defense mechanisms are important in that they shape an individuals behaviour, which in turn will have an effect on the individual within and organisation and in turn can affect the organisation as a whole, not least as regards anxiety that arises when confronted by change. Using these psychoanalytic theories, this paper will give a greater insight into the understanding of the functioning of organisations, with an emphasis on anxiety and change and the ways in which individuals and groups defend against this thus failing to achieve the group s primary task. This paper will use ideas that began with Freud and further developed by Klein and then Bion particularly Bion and his study of groups. *For the purpose of this essay, the terms group and organisations will be used intermittently. A Potted History Before the 1930s, the investigation of groups and organisations was not a generally recognised theory of study (De Board, R 1978). Psychoanalytic theory initially concentrated on individuals and was first extended to group life by Freud (1922) Later, Melanie Klein s (1946) object relations theory both built upon and departed from Freud s theories and ... • 6. Pathos In Nick Naylor Evaluation Nick Naylor is a lobbyist for cigarettes. He battles everyone who is anti cigarette. Mr. Naylor runs into trouble in many different ways for defending the rights of smokers. Along the way, Nick twists some words and becomes the hot topic on TV and in Hollywood. Nick defends against many things thrown at him. Things such as a cancer boy, the Marlboro man and even the loss of his job. Nick Naylor is effective and persuasive in argumentation. Mr. Naylor does a great job displaying ethos, logos, and pathos. Each one of these appeals are important in the use of argumentation. Mr. Naylor is also effective with fallacies, and even though what he is saying might not be true, it is effective. At the beginning of the movie, Nick Naylor uses pathos. In the movie the anti tobacco people tried to make Nick Naylor the bad guy. They brought out a boy that had cancer and tried to make him look bad. Pathos specifically is trying to draw the emotion sympathy out of the audience. The audience was then given an option on who to blame. The person they chose was Nick. Effectively, Nick Naylor diverted the negative press away from him and toward the senator s assistant. Even though Nick was being bashed by these people he maintained his stance. One thing I noticed about Nick is that he always presents himself with a smile and with a positive message. He effectively uses pathos by using positive vibes and then drawing them out from the audience. Also at the beginning of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Effects Of Psychological Trauma On Women s Childhood... Quantitative Article Review The Purpose of the Study. According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2014), over 60% of insured adults in the U.S. had experienced childhood trauma, with 16% admitting to multiple types of abuse. This number can be even higher if the study sample included uninsured individuals, especially those who were in the high risk, low socioeconomic status, and underrepresented population. Child abuse and neglect can cause both short term and long term effects, such as improper brain development, impaired cognitive and socio emotional skills, lower language development, and high risk for chronic diseases, anxiety, and substance abuse (CDC, 2016). Given this information, the purpose of the study by Grabbe, Ball and Hall (2016) is to explore the severity of psychological trauma in women who were abused as a child (Grabbe, Ball, Hall, 2016). The goal is to gain an understanding of what happened during the women s childhood that may have prevented them from further abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). Consequently, using that information to conceptualize interventions for prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). This period was born because it was hard for the laypeople to understand the great messages the metaphysical poets wrote down. This is also the case with the poem written by Percy Bysshe Shelley called Ode to the West Wind. Before I jump into the poem itself I found some noteworthy things about Shelley. • 17. The Negative Effects Of Cannabis Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the negative effects were too damaging to ignore. Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is damaging to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In recent studies, the findings suggest that long term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray matter volume between groups, they found that significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex, temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula, and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive component of cannabis (Δ9 Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose dependent toxicity and structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with recreational consumption that started during adolescence (before the age of 18). The duration of exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1 receptors, correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long term exposure to drugs toward the development of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors is often associated with deficits in decision making. FMRI demonstrates altered brain activity in core regions linked to the motivational and affective aspects of decision making, mainly in the ventromedial prefrontal (VMPFC) and orbitofrontal cortices and insula. Though this was dramatically decreased for the following two years, which can be explained by the global economic downturn which begun in 2008 (Grigor′ev Salikhov, 2009). Therefore it is not possible to conclude that Estonia directly increased spending on defence by a significant figure because of the events that took place in 2007, but it can be deduced that spending has had a gradual rise thereafter and is currently based above €500 million euro with sufficient proportions being allocated to relevant cyber defence mediums which have been ongoing since 2007. • 19. The Danger Of A Single Story By Chimamanda Adicie Essay Single Stories are Problematic In the world we live in now it has become easy to stereotype and create a single story about certain people and situations, whether it s intentional or not. In 2009, a Nigerian novelist named Chimamanda Adichie gave an amazing TED talk called The Danger of the Single Story . A single story more or less means an incomplete or inaccurate viewpoint of a person or culture based on a story created from a single experience. When one hears the same story over and over again, we start believing only that story. Adichie claims that creating single stories is problematic and rely on power, a single story I decided to present is how people believe police officers are abusing their power, and I believe the media is at fault. For one to truly understand a story we must listen to the root of the story. Her speech made me realize and view things differently. In the The Danger of a Single Story , Chimamanda Adicie tells her own personal experiences of a single story and how that can become challenging. She talks about when she started reading and writing at a young age. She read British and American children s books. When she started writing all her characters were white and blue eyed just like in the books. It wasn t until writers Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye that she realized people like her, people of color, could exist in literature. Moreover, most of the detective films are based on the fiction, Philippa (b, 2011). At the start of the poem, the image of a happy, young, and perhaps rather naïve boy is placed before us; Simple tells us that he is innocent, perhaps rather naïve, and doesn t understand the concept of war. Grinned at life in empty joy suggests to us that he was pleased by anything, a happy carefree young man. He was young and had no worries because he enjoyed life and did as he pleased. He made life seem easy and happy even when times were bad. It also given us a notion of how immature the boy turned into a soldier and sent to war must have been. Slept soundly through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structure of the poem also adds to the stark change the boy has suffered throughout the war. Sassoon uses the same structure that a children s rhyme usually has, and this is perhaps intended to emphasize that this boy, turned into a soldier and driven to suicide, was still just a boy. The depression of the young soldier is also shown to be shared by many; the eye catching title Suicide in the Trenches is evidence of this fact. The word trenches further emphasizes that the depression the young soldier feels is felt throughout all the trenches, and therefore many others in war. The juxtaposition between the first two stanzas adds to the effect intended upon the reader by Siegfried Sassoon. He wants us to feel the harsh reality of war; cold, unjust, harsh and depressing, and the image of a happy young man driven to suicide by war certainly emphasizes this point. This jarring contrast makes the boy s death a lot sadder and brings out sympathy in the reader. 2. What is Sassoon s view of the crowds which greet the soldiers on their return from the trenches? The last stanza is very effective in displaying Sassoon s view of the crowds. Throughout this stanza a bitter, sarcastic, sneering and rather angry tone is used; You smug faced crowds The use of you makes the reader feel as if Sassoon is addressing the reader, naming us all guilty of the smug faced cheering and clapping of the ... Autry is trying to say that museums is a sacred place of memory and trauma. One of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts. The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. • 28. The Best Kind of Sex Education There is much controversy over which form of sex education should be taught, comprehensive sex education, or abstinence only sex education. The definition for comprehensive sex education is responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex education is a form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives. Comprehensive sex education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have sex. But abstinence only sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect themselves from STDs and pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of our nation s schools. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values. Macon Dead III, nicknamed Milkman, is a symbolic character throughout the novel. Not only is he as a character symbolic, but his name is as well. Milkman s aunt, Pilate, has a significant and symbolic role in the novel. To her father, she represents the child who killed her own mother and took away his wife. In the Bible, Pontius Pilate is the Roman who is responsible for the execution of Jesus. With that information, one can say that the name Pilate seems to coincide with her father, Macon Dead s, opinion on what Pilate represents. What s ironic is that Pilate is a good person and is murdered in the end, just as Jesus was by Pontius Pilate. Guitar, Milkman s best friend, is another significant character in the novel who portrays deep symbolism. Guitar is named after something that he wanted very badly as a child. I saw it when my mother took me downtown with her. I was just a baby. It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the glass jar and you win a guitar. I cried for it, they said. • 34. The Idea Of Class Struggle In Hamlet By William Shakespeare Throughout history, class division has always been a big issue. Many works today, display social inequality; however to realize it, one has to look through the right lens. Literary critical lenses help to see a work from a different angle which leads to a better analysis of the composition. There are many different lenses and aspects in literature, and one of them is the Marxist Theory. Also known as the Conflict Theory, this idea claims that class struggle is a big divider in society. Although originally associated with culture and civilizations, this concept also applies to literature. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare clearly demonstrates the idea of class struggles; looking at this composition through the lens of the Marxist Theory, one uncovers that the powerful ones suppress and manipulates the others in an attempt to display their superiority. The Marxist Theory is the idea of the German philosopher, Karl Marx. Society is basically divided into three different classes: the Aristocracy, the Bourgeoisie, and the Proletariat. The Aristocracy is the royalties, they have control over everything and everyone; they will do anything to keep their rank and power. The Bourgeois have control over the economy and the workers. They set the trends and sometimes manipulate beliefs and laws for their benefits. These people are extremely wealthy and aspire to become even more affluent; which leaves very little for the Proletariat. At the very bottom of the hierarchy is the ... He promised to rebuild Germany s power and restore its prosperity (Isaacman, 16). This won the support of many Germans. Hitler was such an effective speaker that anything he said was believed even if it was not true. The coefficient of static and kinetic friction can be derived from the experiments with the use of a horizontal Atwood s machine and a Super Pulley. The static friction was tested by setting up an equilibrium with the hanging mass and the frictional force. Three tests were conducted with increasing additional mass on the friction block. An unbalanced force was required to test for the coefficient of kinetic friction. This is possible through solving for the acceleration of the unbalanced force. The total mass of the system is constant through all four of the tests, but different masses were added to the hanging mass so that the acceleration would have a variety of different accelerations to accurately solve for the kinetic friction. As a result, our coefficient of static and kinetic friction are μs = 0.26 ± 0.02 and μk = 0.30 ± 0.01 respectively. Introduction According to Collin College, the coefficient of static and kinetic friction are μs = 0.30 and μk = 0.20 respectively. Their relationship is completely shattered by the end of the film, with Sara Jane refusing to have anything to do with her mother. The dynamic between Lora and Susie as mother and daughter is slightly different, with their relationship focusing on Susie s feelings of abandonment and missing love. One of the only confrontational scenes pertaining to these issues between Susie and Lora occurs near the end of the film, with Lora becoming upset that her daughter did not tell her about her budding love of Steve. Annie spills Susie s secret infatuation, and this causes Lora to confront her daughter about her romantic feelings. • 43. Lord Fogarty Essay The first poem I will be discussing is Fellow Being by Lionel Fogarty. Sound techniques such as consonance are used in this poem to invite the reader to understand how Australia can function as an unwelcoming home to the Indigenous Australians. Fogarty writes in the poem that The kissing of winds to trees are the love between aborigines . Through the repetition of the soft drawn out s sound in the words kissing and trees , the quality of the sound portrays a sense of love and safety. Furthermore, the word kissing , with its connotations of affection and love, and trees with its inferences of freedom and life emphasises the connection indigenous Australians had with the old Australia. The reminiscent style of the poem reveals the inhospitable nature of modern Australia towards Aborigines. Fogarty also uses image techniques such as metaphors to describe the interdependent nature of the relationship the indigenous Australians had with the land. By emphasizing this important relationship, Fogarty reveals the fractured bond that the white Australians forced upon the Aborigines. The phrase aboriginal is the bread equates the indigenous ... In particular, the word subdued , with its connotations of unresponsiveness and being withdrawn, further emphasises the conflict between the white and indigenous Australians. This conflict ultimately separated the Aborigines from their land, resulting in Australia becoming a hostile home for the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. International Order And Its Effect On The World s The... International order, though it may be fleeting in the grand scheme of history, seems to be at least on a continuous track of lingering longer and longer each time before chaos takes over. The Persians, Greeks, and Romans all seemed to enjoy ever increasing periods of relative peace at the top of their systems of international order before it unraveled. Most of Europe was in good order on the tail of the Industrial Revolution until some arch duke decided to vacation in Sarajevo. After each major conflict, the world re shuffles itself and order is established again in some form or fashion. The players are bigger and more numerous with greater consequences for conflict but order is still unseated from time to time and the rules of the existing orders seem to change daily. Realism can explain this violent cycle of order and disorder. States and even non state actors continuously seek to balance regional power in order to secure their survival in a world dominated by fear and uncertainty; if unable to balance that power through violent means, players will seek to form alliances and organizations to at least prevent domination; once a status quo has been created and survival is temporarily assured, players will seek to maintain life within that order; new members thrust the order back into violence and potentially chaos if unable or unwilling to play by those rules. This cycle of power balancing can be illustrated in three phases. International orders are created as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. How Did Stephen Jay Gould Support Evolution Stephen Jay Gould was an American paleontologist, biologist and also one of the most influential spokesman of his generation. Gould had written a lot of notable papers in which a few have landed around the word Evolution. Evolution has been divided in to two categories, evolutionists, who believe that living organisms have modified over a very long period of time and have ended up into evolving or, creationists who believe that we didn t evolve from any form but that we were made from a supernatural being God . Creationists debate about evolution and say that evolution is just a theory and not a fact. Gould knew this and has explained that Creationists have become ignorant and try to argue when they don t know the true meaning. Most people use the term theory today as a guess, an idea and thought. In science theories are ideas that explains facts and therefore theories cannot be facts. Facts on the other hand are observations that have been confirmed over and over again to be final but it still does not make it final as today it could be set in stone but tomorrow it could change and be discarded. A fact that is known to a lot of people and is almost impossible to deny are fossils. We have dug up a ton of fossils and they leave evidence to how us humans were ... Thirdly he brings up fossils which is the best evidence known. It is the closest proof we have to evolution.
