A Critical Analysis of the Key National Security Issues
Faced in the Post Vietnam War Period There have been a lot of developments that
happened during the Vietnam War that concerns the key national security issues of the
country. However, there are an also a lot of significant changes that occurred after that
historical event, that forever changed the policy conceptualization and implementation of
national and foreign related issues. The administration of Richard Nixon was greatly
affected by the Vietnam War. Due to the fact that the US failed to win the war in a
smooth way, Nixon tried to assess the things that went wrong in the national security and
foreign policies of his predecessors like Kennedy and Johnson. Henry Kissinger ... Show

According to David Schmitz, Ford found himself caught in the middle of the intense
debates about post Vietnam international policy. On one side, conservatives dismissed
detente as weakness, if not outright appeasement, and as responsible for the loss of
American power and prestige in the world (2011, p. 51). This entails that are blatantly
expressing their disagreement due to the lack of American Exceptionalism during the
Nixon administration. Hence, this can also be connected with George Kennan s views
that the unrealistic expectations caused by American Exceptionalism of the American
people to the government will greatly affect the implementation of national security
policies. Finally, it can also be said that the administration of Jimmy Carter triggered a
lot of developments to the national security policy of the US. During his term,
negotiating the SALT II Treaty was seen as the primary way forward, rather than using
military intervention in areas of conflict, and American military capability was
allowed to decline (Lock Pullan 2005, p. 37). However, many critics consider Carter s
national security policies as failure because of the numerous unresolved issues that
evidently affected the state of the US during his term. Carter was also widely known
for his critiques that are directed towards Nixon and Kissinger s strategy of centralized
power for decision making. Hence, his foreign policies depended on the
Security Threats of E-Commerce
INTRODUCTION
E commerce, which is simply the system of transacting business through the use of
electronic and digital media as the computer and mobile devices, has become not just a
necessary but also an effective means of global economic development. The astronomical
growth of interconnectivity through the computer network (I.e., internet) has made e
commerce a veritable tool for quick business relationships to be formed without any
form of physical contact. At the click of the mouse, business transactions ranging from
banking, shopping and all manner of trading are carried out by millions of internet users
on a daily basis.

The goods can be physical goods, such as books, equipments or CDs, or electronic
goods, such as electronic documents, images, or music. Similarly, there are traditional
services, such as hotel or flight booking, as well as electronic services, such as financial
market analyses in electronic form.
E payment systems are not a novel idea. Electronic money has been used between banks
in the form of funds transfer since 1960. For nearly as long, customers have been able to
withdraw money from ATMs (automatic teller machines), and the use of credit cards has
also become increasingly common since then.
Credit Cards
Credit cards are currently the most popular payment instrument on the Internet. The
first credit cards were introduced decades ago (Diner s Club in 1949, American
Express in 1958). For a long time, credit cards have been produced with magnetic
stripes containing unencrypted, read only information. Today, more and more cards are
smart cards containing hardware devices (chips) offering encryption and far greater
storage capacity. Recently even virtual credit cards (software digital or e wallets) are
gaining progressive patronage.
Typically, the customer gives his credit cardinformation (i.e., issuer, expiry date,
number) to the merchant. The merchant asks the acquirer bank for authorization. The
acquirer bank sends a message over the interbank network to the issuer bank asking for
Ella Enchanged and Cinderella
Contemporary young adult writers or filmmakers retells a classic story and develop ideas
about how and why current views of adolescents and what it takes to grow up might have
changed over time. Classic young adult literature questions certain topics like social,
political, and the moral convections and the way it impacts the way teens think about
themselves. For example, two contemporary young adult stories that have similarities and
differences are Ella Enchantedand Cinderella that can impact a teen s way of thinking
mainly young girls but can influence boys as well. For instance, Cinderella is a classic
form of literature that develops ideas about adolescents. In Cinderella, she was the only
daughter of a wealthy man who had lost his wife. He remarries this women who was
extremely cruel and self interested; along with her two daughters. They all disliked
Cinderella who was a very kindhearted and beautiful and resembled her mother. Her
stepmother and stepsisters ridiculed her and treated her like an outcast of the family, as if
she was taking up space. Cinderella devoted a lot of her time cleaning and doing all
the chores around the house. She was very obedient and her animal friends would often
question on why she wouldn t just stand up against her evil stepmother and stepsisters
for herself and take what is rightfully hers. However, Cinderella was a prisoner in her
own life who was forbidden from any form of outside activities. Ella Enchanted is a

ANIMAL There are four types of main tissues in human body 1.Epithelium Epithelium
tissues are composed of layers of the cells that are closely packed together which is
specialised to form the covering or lining of both external and internal surface of body
such as surface of your skin and internal digestive system. The main function of
epithelium tissues are to provide protection like skin that protects you from injury,
secretion like glands such as enzymes, and to absorb materials like intestine such as
waste products etc. The two examples of Epithelium tissues are Squamous epithelium
and Glandular epithelium. 2.Connective tissue Connective tissues holds and binds
everything together which are found all around the body. This type of tissue is also
called fibrous connective tissues as they are consisting of a lot of fibres eg. Collagen
and Elastin. The basic function of the connective tissue is to support, bind or connect all
other types of tissues together in the body.Blood, cartilage, and bone are usually
considered as connective tissue 3.Muscle tissue Muscle cells are the contractive tissue of
body that produce force and cause motion within internal organs. Muscle tissue is
separated into three different categories: visceral or smooth muscle that are located in the
inner linings of organs and skeletal

Culture Diversity By Ronald Takaki Analysis
Ronald Takaki writes a very powerful introductory paragraph to show that people need
more education on culture diversity. Takaki describes his experience when he was
racially profiled by his taxi driver on his way to a hotel. He introduces his setting as
Virginia which according to the census bureau has a 70.2% white population to show
he is in a predominately white area. He also describes his driver as a white man in his
forties (539) to portray him as the average american . Meanwhile Takaki gives no clue
to the reader about his ethnicity or background so we can interpret how his driver was
stereotyping Takaki in the following conversation: How long have you been in this

United States Involvement with Vietnam Essay examples
United States Involvement with Vietnam
The USA were involved in the Vietnam conflict for a number of reasons. The first
going back to what happened during World War 2 when Japan surrendered to USA in
1945. It was decided that the Indo Chinese territories should be given back to the French
empire. However, many Vietnamese people wanted to be independent and free of French
rule. So, the Vietminh was founded and lead into independence by their communist
leader Ho Chi Minh. Fighting soon broke out against the French who still wanted to
keep hold of Vietnam as it was very rich in natural resources like minerals. The French

In this source he is reinforcing the idea that the communisation of south Vietnam would
be the gateway to it spreading and taking over the whole of Asia. I f this happened, the
USA would have lost out as it would prevent them from being able to import cheap raw
materials over from Asian countries. Kennedy, along with the rest of the world, were
also very tense due to living under the threat of the cold war. The USA were very
much against the idea of the rest of Asia going communist as it would have been quite
likely for it to join forces with the USSR thus creating a super force able to take of the
world. Although America were very keen to go into Vietnam to do something about Ho
Chi Minh, they needed to find an excuse to do so. The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident was the
excuse they needed to increase their involvement in Vietnam. This was what happened in
1964, when US ships thought they were being attacked by torpedoes. Johnson, the
President at the time decided that he could use a second imaginary attack to persuade
congress to agree to send in troops to bomb North Vietnam in Operation Rolling Thunder
. Johnson was especially keen to get in and attack as he was accused of being soft on
communism and he wanted to prove otherwise. This sudden action escalated US
involvement dramatically. Another incident leading to more American involvement in
the conflict was

Toni Cade Bambara was a native of New York City who devoted her life to her writing
and her social activism. Throughout her career, Bambara used her writings to convey
social and political messages about the welfare of the African American community and
of African American women especially. According to Alice A. Deck in the Dictionary of
Literary Biography, the author was one of the best representatives of the group of Afro
American writers who, during the 1960s, became directly involved in the cultural
activities in urban communities across the country. Deck also pointed out that Bambara is

Beginning with the Great Depression, this event was regarded as having begun in 1929
with the Stock Market crash. The depression had devastating effects on the country.
The stock market was in shambles. Many banks couldn t continue to operate. Farmers
fell into bankruptcy. Quarters of the working force, or 13 million people, were
unemployed in 1932, and this was only the beginning. The depression lasted over a
decade, with hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their jobs, businesses failing,
and financial institutions collapsing. Bambara, born in 1939, experienced the
backlashes of the great depression as a small child. Growing up poor, Bambara was
encouraged by her mother to explore her imagination, to daydream and to follow her
inner motives. The Lesson, a short story written by Bambara, is about a young girl
named Silvia that over the course of one afternoon, she is forced to an unpleasant
awareness of the unfairness of the social and economic system that prevailed in the
1960s. Sylvia lives in a slum neighborhood. Only one person in the neighborhood
distinguishes herself Miss Moore. She is college educated and takes it upon herself the
responsibility for the young ones education and exposes them to the world outside of
their neighborhood and the truth it holds. On the afternoon the story takes place, she

For-Profit Colleges Essay
There are several characteristics of for profit colleges that make them vastly different
from two year community colleges or four year state or private universities. The first
major difference is that for profit colleges are run more like a corporation than
traditional colleges. This allows them to hire professors on short term contracts, without
requiring them to gain tenure. This practice is beneficial to for profit colleges because
if the professor s statistics are horrible, he or she could be let go of sooner without having
to go through a review board process, the collegecould simply not renew their contract.
Another difference from tradition colleges is that classes can start at for profit schools
more often and classes can continue all year. This is due to the fact that most of the
student body at for profits schools are online students who may be located thousands of
miles away from the base campus. Another major difference of for profit colleges is that

This means that in order to have a decent job, you usually need some type of degree or
training beyond a high school education. Unfortunately, in years to come, this trend
toward for profit colleges could devastate our nation s economy. The student loan debt
in the US is roughly equal to the amount of US credit card debt, they is a frightening
fact because for profit student are more likely to default on their loans (they make up
44% of all student debt defaults), which could burst our student debt bubble. This would
have devastating consequences for our government, tax payers, and possibly even the
global economy. If our student debt bubble were to burst, like the housing bubble back in
2007 2009, it would have the potential to plunge us into another Great Depression. That,

Chinese Imagined Community Essay
The Chinese Canadian experience during the 19th and 20th centuries provides a classic
example of history s role in the nation making process, the creation of an imagined
community (Stanley 477). The anti Asian exclusion era (1880s to 1940s) in Canada
played a pivotal role in the emergence of the Chinese identity. Benedict Anderson
describes the imagined community as a community that is built through emotional ties
with one another. Anderson states that the community is imagined because the members
of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow members, meet them, or
even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion,
(Anderson 1991). With this said, Chinese Canadians felt a strong... Show more content on

This labour was in high demand because Canadian and American capitalists were eager to
find the most inexpensive solution (Spencer 21). However, things changed when the
white European population of Canada heard rumours that Chinese immigrants were
taking over whole industries in California, such as the shoe making industry and cigar
manufacturing industries (Spencer 22). Fear of continuous growth in Chinese labourers,
the Canadian government implemented several anti Asian laws including the Chinese
Head Tax of 1885 and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1923. First these laws were
intended to restrict the amount of Chinese immigrants coming into Canada, however
eventually the laws were changed to stop Chinese immigration in its entirety. Laws that
openly discriminated against Chinese immigrants led public opinion to see Chinese
immigrants as an alien race that did not belong within Canada(Stanley 486). The
Canadian press also played a huge role in marking Chinese immigrants as alien. In
1882, the Toronto based journal the Trades Union Advocate/Wage Worker noted, the
Chinese are a vile race. It is recorded in one locality in China they recently destroyed 80
percent of their children...merely because they were girls, (Spencer 23). By depicting the
Chinese as a vile race the Canadian population became disillusioned towards Chinese
immigrants. These strong feelings of explicit racism and discrimination
Essay On Slavery And Indentured Servitude
Mid Term Exam (Part One Essay)
Option 1: Using information from readings and lectures (no outside sources) describe the
conditions of slavery and indentured servitude in the English colonies. Assess the relative
severity of the two conditions and argue why one might have been worse, or equal to the
other.
Slavery, in any form, is one of the gravest crimes against human rights. Whether
indentured servitude or plain enslavement, its impact was enormous on the daily lives of
the people subjected to it then and still continues to affect how we live today. Between
the two, however, indentured servitude seems to be the lesser evil.
Discussions between Slave and Indentured servant have some similarities and distinction.

After the contract of an indentured servant ended, they were given freedom dues. There
was also the possibility of being given material items such as clothing, shoes, corn, and
land (depending upon the rules of the colony) at the end of the contract for them to start a
new life.
On the other hand, slavery in Colonial America in 18th century grew for three reasons:
1) high European demands for tobacco, sugar and rice laborer, 2) difficulty enslaving
natives because they are pretty familiar with the land and managed to escape
becoming a slave and 3) lack of indentured servants because most of the plantation
owners were indentured servants before. Slaves were captured in native Africa,
unjustly dragged, by the cruel hand of power from their dearest friends or families
(ZINN, 57) and they were shipped to colonies and sold into slavery. They were
considered as Owned and as property for life with no rights. Masters could not change
the status of slaves often born into slavery. Based on the Petition on the Great number
of Negroes (ZINN, 57) the life of slavery deprived of every social privilege is far worse
than Non Existence. Childbearing woman, however, are more valuable to their master.
There are similarities between slaves and indentured servants. They were both brought to
the new world in a terrifying condition. Many of them lost their lives along the way
because of hunger and sickness. They both received corporal punishment by means of

The Blind Side Symbolic Interactionism Analysis
Symbolic Interactionism Perspective In The Blind Side, Michael was raised in the
projects of Memphis, Tennessee. One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne
Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having her
husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to sleep at
the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a warm place
to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two was Michael s
first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would give him a reason to
keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne continued to include Michael
in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly feeling Michael got from her.
The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the symbolic meaning that people develop
and rely upon the process of social interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as
social, developed interaction with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a
physical reality does indeed exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially
develop in relation to something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism
is the way we earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions
with others. Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong
bond. This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne
cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better
himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from Leigh
Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another example of
Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at Wingate
converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting around a
table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when admissions allow
students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They are just setting him up
to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even the least bit intelligent and
will fail their classes. In the years before Michael was allowed into private school, he had

Porter s 5 Forces Analysis of the Retail Banking Industry in Australia
Retail banking can be defined as an industry where financial institutions offer mass
market banking in which individual customers use local branches of larger commercial
banks. Services offered include savings and checking accounts, mortgages, personal
loans, debit/credit cards.
Retail banking aims to be the one stop shop for as many financial services as possible on

Suppliers Relative Bargaining Power
Current rating (Low) Future Rating (Low)
The suppliers of capital might not pose a big threat especially when the banks viability
was/is guaranteed by the federal government during the height of the GFC.
On the labour side, the threat of union interruptions is very low to non existent. The
banks have been quite clever in moving a lot of the front line staff offshore though call
centres to ensure that the labour supply is cheap and sustained. This is further supported
by the huge uptake of online banking by customers.
Buyer Relative Bargaining Power
Current rating (Low) Future Rating (Low) The individual doesn t pose much of a threat
to the banking industry, but one major factor affecting the power of buyers is relatively
high switching costs. If a person has a mortgage, car loan, credit card, checking account
and mutual funds with one particular bank, it can be extremely tough for that person to
switch to another bank. In an attempt to lure in customers, banks try to lower the price of
switching, but many people would still rather stick with their current bank. On the other
hand, large corporate clients have banks wrapped around their little fingers. Financial
institutions by offering better exchange rates, more services, and exposure to foreign
capital markets work extremely hard to get high margin corporate clients.

The Similarities Of Delphi And Olympia
Sanctuaries have been seen throughout ancient Greece. A sanctuary has been defined as
a sacred area for rituals, cultural activities, musical, theatrical, sports, and drama events.
These events had a dual purpose of entertaining and religious activities. Activities could
be civic religious based, or mystery religious based. Two major examples of sanctuaries
in ancient Greece consist of Delphiand Olympia. Delphi and Olympia have specific
functions that share similarities, yet simultaneously differ through buildings, activities
performed, and corresponding history of each site. When focusing on Delphi and
Olympia, an important note to make consists of Delphi and Olympia having broad
similarities, but when investigating further, their differences appear specifically in
certain features. Delphi s and Olympia s similarities have been seen through the
features at each site. For a sanctuary to be truly defined as a sanctuary, the site must
have an altar and peribolos. The altar and peribolos are important because the altar
allows the people to worship their god/goddess, and the periobolo distinguishes the
sacred area from the non sacred area. The site can also include propylon, a sacred way,
temple, and ancillary building. A propylon is a monumental gate which has the purpose
of highlighting the importance of the area. A sacred way is where the processions occur.
The temples are not sanctuaries, but erected to show off the altar. They altar had a greater
importance

Answer 1.
In elecronic, broadcast, transportation, filters are used to select the desired signal, and
deny or block unwanted signals. Or put in other words, they may be the only way we
have to block. The doing so, we want to signal and other frequency or with a device, is
frequency selective it behave different towards different frequencies. Such device is
called a filter. (Bertrand, 2002)
Irrespective of the mechanism by which the filler does its job, filters can be broken
down into four basic types.

2.High pass filter

Single sideband modulation may be viewed as the removal or reduction of the amplitude

use an amplitude modulated signal as a starting point. (Rosu, NA)

Good Morning Ladies And Gentlemen
Good Morning ladies and gentlemen. The 21st century has introduced the world to a
new era, a technological era where everything can be found by the click of a button.
The internet has transformed from an idea into a necessity, with over 3 billion
recorded users and growing. Two thirds of the internet s users are also active on Social
Mediums such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram (Kemp, 2015). Due to
the increasing popularity of Social Media, it has become a key aspect of marketing
campaigns and has introduced a whole new component to the marketing industry.
Social Media Marketing is a strategic mix of business activities that work towards a
bigger goal of building your brand and business. It s all about being able to identify and
understand your customers and refers to the process of gaining traffic or attention
through Social mediums (SearchEngineLand, 2015). As traditional marketing methods
such as billboard advertising or the use of brochures grow rapidly out of fashion and
are less effective it s no wonder as to why businesses, both big and small have taken to
social mediums. You may wonder, how different Social mediums can help promote a
fundraising campaign. Well, because of the large scale audiences, marketing online can
instantaneously impact on the businesses client reach. Facebook is the largest Social
networking site on the internet with 1.5 billion active users and growing. Facebook is a
great social medium tool which can promote offline events,

Warren Buffet is unquestionably one of the most admired and successful investors in

I view derivatives as time bombs, both for the parties that deal in them and the economic
system. He also called them financial instruments of mass destruction.

Derivatives are believed to have played a large role in 2008 when the phony valuations of
mortgage backed securities (a derivative) helped trigger the largest market crash in
history up to that date.
What is different today? In 2015, the stock market rose 20% higher than its 2008 peak
while the derivatives exposure of the top 9 banks over the same period has risen at
40% twice that rate from $160 trillion to more than $228 trillion. Over the past couple

areas the government has not heavily regulated. Everything is going to remain fine as
long as the system stays in balance. But when markets become rapidly unstable, we
could witness a string of financial crashes that no government on earth will be able to
Should Double Pane Windows Be Allowed
More is always better Right? If you re talking about salary, we d immediately agree
with you. More cash in your pocket after paying the tax man is definitely a good thing.
When you find yourself pondering whether triple pane windows are a wiser financial
decision than double pane replacement windows the answer isn t always so cut and dried.
Single pane options were the only option for hundreds of years. As technology advanced
and manufacturing processes improved, double pane windows became the gold standard
for most homeowners. Some window companies are suggesting that the triple has become
the new double, providing the ultimate return on investment for both energy efficiency
and higher property resell value.

You ll hear fewer outdoor sounds and your neighbors won t be privy to personal
conversations or complain about your music volume as long as your windows are closed
and you use some personal restraint. Ask about acoustic ratings if you like to feel your
music as much as you hear it, the lower the rating the greater the noise transmission
control.
Safety and security: Both triple pane replacement windows and double pane replacement
windows offer security features. Some companies promote triple pane window solutions
as more intruder resistant than double pane windows. Three pane configurations are
stronger than windows with fewer panels; therefore not as easy to break as styles with
fewer panes.
But, there are less expensive double pane solutions. For example, installing heat
tempered glass, which is four times as strong as traditional glass panels, is an option
for areas of your home where you want a stronger glazing choice. You can also design
windows with patterned glass to increase privacy and recessed locks that make access
more difficult. Neither double pane nor triple pane windows are unbreakable.

Metal Cations Lab Report
In this lab an unknown metal cation is identified by comparing chemical reactions of
known metal cations with different ions to chemical reactions of the unknown with those
ions.Nine different metal cations are reacted with sulfate, iodide, carbonate, hydroxide,
and ammoniaand observed. A procedure is then planned using the original tests to
identify the unknown metalcation. The nine different metal ions, aluminum, barium,
cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, lead and zinc, were reacted with sulfate,
iodide, carbonate, hydroxide, and ammonia. When reacted with sulfate aluminum, cobalt,
copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, and zinc all had no reaction. Barium and lead both

barium formed a white precipitate, cobalt formed a pink precipitate, copper formed a

Barium isnot an option in the unknown metal mixture, so if a reaction occurs it is known

The Failure Of Beauty In The Good Earth By Pearl Buck
In the United States, beauty is highly respected and is responsible for multimillion dollar
industries. The United States is not the only country obsessed with beauty. The Good
Earth by Pearl Buck reveals one of the most gruesome yet popular customs associated
with beauty, foot binding. Since the time of the novel, the extreme lengths that women
take for the sake of beauty have not changed to this present day. Perhaps one of the most
memorable moments in the Good Earthis when Wang Lung stumbles upon his younger
daughter with a depressed look on her face. Wang Lung asks her in a kind voice why
she had wept, and she cries, Because my mother binds a cloth about my feet more
tightly every day and I cannot sleep at night (Buck, 248). Foot binding was a common
practice in China before it became outlawed in 1915. The process involved forcefully
breaking the bones of the young girl, which would cause her permanent pain for the rest
of her life. Small feet were considered to be beautiful in China, and women with large
feet were considered unattractive. Women with bound feet were unable to walk long
distances and as a result had to be carried. Although it has been over a century since foot
binding has last been permitted, people in the United Statesare still completing
horrendous acts for the sake of beauty. One such example is a tongue piercing, where a
needle is painstakingly stuck through the tongue and metal pieces of various sizes are
inserted. Perri Klass, in her

Until I was dying, I was not living. This may sound paradoxical but this is a major
theme in the story of my life. Thus far, the plot of my life is much like one of those
seen in a 5th grade english class. There is an exposition, rising action, climax, and the
very beginning of a falling action. Although I am sure my life will be filled with many
of these peak shaped plot maps of ups and downs, currently the mountain I am on has
been a steep climb with lots of testing moments along the way.
Growing up, I was a very shy, quiet and independent child. In preschool, I preferred to

After class that day, the teacher called me to stay back and asked if I had any interest
in a free ticket to the solar system exhibit at the Science Museum. My face lit up but I
had to turn him down because I had a hockey tournament that weekend. During those
years, I was not authentically myself. I stifled my passions in order to fit in and be
accepted by others. By the time high school came around I was tired of being someone I
wasn t. My freshman year I quit hockey, created a group workout club called SWEAT,
and joined student council. I began taking advanced placement classes and was finally
able to quench my thirst for knowledge. I grew apart from my friend group and
decided I didn t need a clique. I was friends with my different people in many different
groups and enjoyed being able to have many friends rather than a select group. Doing
things for myself allowed me to flourish in my own way.
However, in my later high school years I found myself in a fog. I could hardly find the
energy to pull myself out of bed in the mornings, I was falling asleep in class, drinking
ten water bottles a day, and eating at least 6 meals a day but losing ten pounds a week.
By the time I was 80 pounds it was clear that something was not right. I distinctly
remember sitting in the parking lot at school thinking to myself that I was not
comfortable in my own skin. A few days later I ended up in the emergency room and was
diagnosed a type one diabetic. My
The History of Piercings and Tattoos
The History of Tattoos and Body Piercing
The largest organ in the human body is the skin. Some people choose to express
themselves through decorating their skin with tattoos, piercing and other kinds of body
art. It s true origin, symbolism, variety, and modern day versions go way back in time.
The first tattoo known to man, was found on Otzi, the Iceman , in 1991. Otzi himself is
from around 4,000 B.C. Fifty eight tattoos were found on him, they were all made of
lines and dots. No real symbolism could be made out of the designs. But scientists have
a theory that these tattoos were part of some sort of medical or spiritual healing process.

Ear lobe piercing is the most common and oldest type of piercing. This was also found
on Otzi. He had pierced ears that had been stretched to eleven millimeters around.
Roman soldiers and warriors would pierce their nipples for mainly two reasons. One
was to show strength, courage, and bravery, and the second was for the use of hanging
their capes off of their leather breastplates when in a battle. Nipple piercing in women
started in the 14th century when the necklines of dresses dropped so incredibly low
that practically half of the women s breast would be exposed. So they would decorate
the nipple with gold chains, diamonds, silver, and other stuff to make them more
attractive. Other piercing were used to make the body more decorative and attractive to
their personal liking. Reasons for piercing are different. One reason is that a person
wants to decorate their body because they think it makes them beautiful, or it is a custom
in their family. The most common piercing is piercing of the earlobe. Men and women
are both seen with studs, or rings in their lobes. The second most common, believe it or
not, is the piercing of the septum. Other common piercing are of the tongue, bellybutton,
nose, and eyebrow. Body art is popular because it makes a person feel different, or
special....in a way. They can be reminded of a turning point in their life through tattoos.

The Pros And Cons Of Homeless Women
The Homeless Period On average, women spend about $3,360 on essential feminine
hygiene products throughout their entire lives, but what happens when a woman cannot
even afford her monthly menstrual expenses? Every month homeless women are put on
a crisis situation recurring to extreme methods to cope with their periods. These women
want to feel clean; unfortunately, they do not have the means to do so because pads and
tampons are expensive. In fact, they are taxed as luxury items in more than thirty states.
As of today, there is not a clear policy as to where homeless women can find free
feminine hygieneproducts when they need them. This is more paupers problem, it is a
health, hygiene, and dignity issue. The government needs to make a legislation that
allows homeless women to get free pads and tampons The means by which homeless
women cope with their periods are unbelievable. In their own voice periods brings
inconvenience to the level of misery (Shay). When these women cannot afford to buy
feminine hygiene products, they use whatever they can to keep themselves clean. Some
of the common substitutes of pads and tampons are toilet paper, paper towels, plastic
bags, towels, cotton balls, makeup pads, socks, and [old clothes] (How do Homeless

same rag multiple times by washing it, drying it, and putting it back in. Feminine hygiene

The Island Of Dr Moreau
In the film, The Island of Dr. Moreau, one could argue that the filmmaker s color
choice for the film is appropriate, considering most films during the 1970 s were made
in color. However, if the film were made in black and white, the depth of the island and
the complexes of the animalistic characters would feel less significant. In this scenario,
the coloring aspect helps by bringing more depth and detail for both the beast men and
the wildlife, which inhabited the island of Dr. Moreau.
The lighting in the film in its entirety is medium and balanced since neither cool nor
warmer filters were particularly utilized. Throughout the film, the low key lighting that
was used during the daytime with natural lighting remained mainly pre dominant.
No Secret That Education Is The Primary Foundation For...
Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 )
It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life.
Therefore, it s imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as
possible for the future generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans
who have pursued an education have done so through private means. I am by no means
saying that free schooling in America today is non existent, but it s evident that the
education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a lack of trained
professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly needed
public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ...

And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher
training college opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all
critical accomplishments, but this is just the beginning.
As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to
provide each and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order
for this to happen, it s imperative for this public education system to be put implemented
all over the nation. With regards to the financing of these common schools, we intend on
collecting the necessary funds through taxes. Again, our hope is that these common
schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens. Another vital prospect to take
into consideration is that a unified education system would help assimilate all
immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has
increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and
somewhat ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all
things that definitely won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently
towards meeting these goals.
Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education
reform movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle

In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4]
until its receiver becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay
and energy consumption) of various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty
cycle networks. There are two features that make flooding in low duty cycle networks
challenging. First, a packet is unlikely to be received by multiple nodes
simultaneously as in always awake networks. To broadcast a packet, a sender has to
transmit the same packet multiple times if its receivers do not wake up at the same
time. Thus flooding in such networks is realized essentially by multiple unicasts.
Second, unlike wired networks, wireless communication is notoriously unreliable [4].
A transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions are not successful due to
wireless loss. The combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable links
necessitates the design of a different flooding mechanism than those found in wired
networks and always awake wireless networks. These combined have a knock on
effects on reliability and cost [4]. One straightforward solution could be building a
routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of solutions have been shown [7] to be fragile,
because the failure of a parent node prevents
Analysis Of Middlesex By Jeffrey Eugenides
A world seen in Black and White The novel Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides focuses on
a family of Greek immigrants whose experiences in America demonstrates life for
blacks, non whites and whites during the 1900s. One passage in the text describes the
first generation immigrant, Desdemona s initial encounter with Africans Americans and
their community. When Desdemona exits the trolley after having arrived in Black
Bottom Eugenides uses a metaphor to illustrate the contrast between black lives and

Whites continued to uphold power over blacks and their lives. In the passage the
author utilizes the surroundings in the black community to portray support the theme
of white authority that constantly surfaces in the novel. Later, as Desdemona nears
the silk factory she begins to notice the smells and food present in Black Bottom. The
narrator describes, The smell of unfamiliar food in the air now, fish caught from the
nearby river, pig knuckles, hominy grits, fried baloney, black eyed peas. But also
many houses where nothing was cooking, where no one was laughing or even talking,
dark rooms full of weary faces... (143). Eugenides uses imagery to compare the
liveliness of blacks, the richness of their food and culture to the homes of African
Americans in which poverty and oppression have consumed their liveliness. The images
of weary faces and dark rooms and no laughter conveys to the reader the exhaustion and
frustration blacks are feeling. The effects of their omnipresent struggle for equality and
rights and essentially for liberation from white power and supremacy on their

I f this happened, the USA would have lost out as it would prevent them from being able to import cheap raw materials over from Asian countries. Kennedy, along with the rest of the world, were also very tense due to living under the threat of the cold war. The USA were very much against the idea of the rest of Asia going communist as it would have been quite likely for it to join forces with the USSR thus creating a super force able to take of the world. Although America were very keen to go into Vietnam to do something about Ho Chi Minh, they needed to find an excuse to do so. The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident was the excuse they needed to increase their involvement in Vietnam. This was what happened in 1964, when US ships thought they were being attacked by torpedoes. Johnson, the President at the time decided that he could use a second imaginary attack to persuade congress to agree to send in troops to bomb North Vietnam in Operation Rolling Thunder . Johnson was especially keen to get in and attack as he was accused of being soft on communism and he wanted to prove otherwise. This sudden action escalated US involvement dramatically. Throughout her career, Bambara used her writings to convey social and political messages about the welfare of the African American community and of African American women especially. According to Alice A. Deck in the Dictionary of Literary Biography, the author was one of the best representatives of the group of Afro American writers who, during the 1960s, became directly involved in the cultural activities in urban communities across the country. The first major difference is that for profit colleges are run more like a corporation than traditional colleges. This allows them to hire professors on short term contracts, without requiring them to gain tenure. This practice is beneficial to for profit colleges because if the professor s statistics are horrible, he or she could be let go of sooner without having to go through a review board process, the collegecould simply not renew their contract. Another difference from tradition colleges is that classes can start at for profit schools more often and classes can continue all year. Chinese Imagined Community Essay The Chinese Canadian experience during the 19th and 20th centuries provides a classic example of history s role in the nation making process, the creation of an imagined community (Stanley 477). The anti Asian exclusion era (1880s to 1940s) in Canada played a pivotal role in the emergence of the Chinese identity. Benedict Anderson describes the imagined community as a community that is built through emotional ties with one another. Anderson states that the community is imagined because the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow members, meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion, (Anderson 1991). This labour was in high demand because Canadian and American capitalists were eager to find the most inexpensive solution (Spencer 21). However, things changed when the white European population of Canada heard rumours that Chinese immigrants were taking over whole industries in California, such as the shoe making industry and cigar manufacturing industries (Spencer 22). Fear of continuous growth in Chinese labourers, the Canadian government implemented several anti Asian laws including the Chinese Head Tax of 1885 and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1923. First these laws were intended to restrict the amount of Chinese immigrants coming into Canada, however eventually the laws were changed to stop Chinese immigration in its entirety. Laws that openly discriminated against Chinese immigrants led public opinion to see Chinese immigrants as an alien race that did not belong within Canada(Stanley 486). The Canadian press also played a huge role in marking Chinese immigrants as alien. In 1882, the Toronto based journal the Trades Union Advocate/Wage Worker noted, the Chinese are a vile race. It is recorded in one locality in China they recently destroyed 80 percent of their children...merely because they were girls, (Spencer 23). By depicting the Chinese as a vile race the Canadian population became disillusioned towards Chinese immigrants. These strong feelings of explicit racism and discrimination

One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having her husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to sleep at the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a warm place to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two was Michael s first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would give him a reason to keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne continued to include Michael in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly feeling Michael got from her. The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon the process of social interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as social, developed interaction with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a physical reality does indeed exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially develop in relation to something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism is the way we earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions with others. Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong bond. This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from Leigh Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another example of Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at Wingate converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting around a table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when admissions allow students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They are just setting him up to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even the least bit intelligent and will fail their classes. A sanctuary has been defined as a sacred area for rituals, cultural activities, musical, theatrical, sports, and drama events. These events had a dual purpose of entertaining and religious activities. Activities could be civic religious based, or mystery religious based. Two major examples of sanctuaries in ancient Greece consist of Delphiand Olympia. Delphi and Olympia have specific functions that share similarities, yet simultaneously differ through buildings, activities performed, and corresponding history of each site. When focusing on Delphi and Olympia, an important note to make consists of Delphi and Olympia having broad similarities, but when investigating further, their differences appear specifically in certain features. Delphi s and Olympia s similarities have been seen through the features at each site. For a sanctuary to be truly defined as a sanctuary, the site must have an altar and peribolos. The altar and peribolos are important because the altar allows the people to worship their god/goddess, and the periobolo distinguishes the sacred area from the non sacred area. The site can also include propylon, a sacred way, temple, and ancillary building. A propylon is a monumental gate which has the purpose of highlighting the importance of the area. A sacred way is where the processions occur. The temples are not sanctuaries, but erected to show off the altar. They altar had a greater importance

The United States is not the only country obsessed with beauty. The Good Earth by Pearl Buck reveals one of the most gruesome yet popular customs associated with beauty, foot binding. Since the time of the novel, the extreme lengths that women take for the sake of beauty have not changed to this present day. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments in the Good Earthis when Wang Lung stumbles upon his younger daughter with a depressed look on her face. Wang Lung asks her in a kind voice why she had wept, and she cries, Because my mother binds a cloth about my feet more tightly every day and I cannot sleep at night (Buck, 248). Foot binding was a common practice in China before it became outlawed in 1915. The process involved forcefully breaking the bones of the young girl, which would cause her permanent pain for the rest of her life. Small feet were considered to be beautiful in China, and women with large feet were considered unattractive. Women with bound feet were unable to walk long distances and as a result had to be carried. Although it has been over a century since foot binding has last been permitted, people in the United Statesare still completing horrendous acts for the sake of beauty. The Island Of Dr Moreau In the film, The Island of Dr. Moreau, one could argue that the filmmaker s color choice for the film is appropriate, considering most films during the 1970 s were made in color. However, if the film were made in black and white, the depth of the island and the complexes of the animalistic characters would feel less significant. In this scenario, the coloring aspect helps by bringing more depth and detail for both the beast men and the wildlife, which inhabited the island of Dr. Moreau. The lighting in the film in its entirety is medium and balanced since neither cool nor warmer filters were particularly utilized. Throughout the film, the low key lighting that was used during the daytime with natural lighting remained mainly pre dominant.
  • 32. No Secret That Education Is The Primary Foundation For... Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 ) It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life. Therefore, it s imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as possible for the future generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans who have pursued an education have done so through private means. I am by no means saying that free schooling in America today is non existent, but it s evident that the education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a lack of trained professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly needed public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher training college opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all critical accomplishments, but this is just the beginning. As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to provide each and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order for this to happen, it s imperative for this public education system to be put implemented all over the nation. With regards to the financing of these common schools, we intend on collecting the necessary funds through taxes. Again, our hope is that these common schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens. Another vital prospect to take into consideration is that a unified education system would help assimilate all immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and somewhat ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all things that definitely won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently towards meeting these goals. Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education reform movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle

Following suit around the county, in particular at Howard University, other transcending organizations arose resulting in new ways of thinking, behavior and, connectivity for black American progression. The fruit bore from these transcending organizations provided the core leadership and game changers that shaped the twentieth century black experience. Such greats as W.E.B Du Bose, Booker T. The theory related to network effects on organization can be categorized into three parts [1]: i. depends on technology adopted i.e., what factors would contribute if new technology is adopted ii. Decision among competing incompatible technologies i.e., what factors involve in consumer choice... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4] until its receiver becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay and energy consumption) of various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty cycle networks. There are two features that make flooding in low duty cycle networks challenging. First, a packet is unlikely to be received by multiple nodes simultaneously as in always awake networks. To broadcast a packet, a sender has to transmit the same packet multiple times if its receivers do not wake up at the same time. Thus flooding in such networks is realized essentially by multiple unicasts. Second, unlike wired networks, wireless communication is notoriously unreliable [4]. A transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions are not successful due to wireless loss. The combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable links necessitates the design of a different flooding mechanism than those found in wired networks and always awake wireless networks. These combined have a knock on effects on reliability and cost [4]. One straightforward solution could be building a routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of solutions have been shown [7] to be fragile, because the failure of a parent node prevents

In the passage the author utilizes the surroundings in the black community to portray support the theme of white authority that constantly surfaces in the novel. Later, as Desdemona nears the silk factory she begins to notice the smells and food present in Black Bottom. The narrator describes, The smell of unfamiliar food in the air now, fish caught from the nearby river, pig knuckles, hominy grits, fried baloney, black eyed peas. Eugenides uses imagery to compare the liveliness of blacks, the richness of their food and culture to the homes of African Americans in which poverty and oppression have consumed their liveliness. The images of weary faces and dark rooms and no laughter conveys to the reader the exhaustion and frustration blacks are feeling. The effects of their omnipresent struggle for equality and rights and essentially for liberation from white power and supremacy on their
