Labor Day Essay
Labor Day is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It
constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that workers have made to the
strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has evolved from a purely labor union
celebration into a general last fling of summer festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day has
been forgotten, or never actually known to many.
The beginnings of the American Labor Movement started with the Industrial Revolution. Once factory
systems began to grow, a demand for workers increased. They hired large amounts of young women
and children who were expected to do the same work as men for less wages. New immigrants were
also employed and called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was founded in 1869 by garment workers in Philadelphia who believed that one union of skilled and
unskilled workers should exist. The union was originally a secret, but later was open to all workers,
including blacks, women and farmers. Five hundred thousand workers joined in a year. Their goals
were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws,
equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of
railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively weak
organization, and eventually fell apart.
In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of Labor.
Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on skilled
workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three hundred
thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions.
Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s rights
should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned with the day to day
welfare of the members and should not become involved with politics. He also thought that socialism
would not succeed in the United States. quot;Bread and butter quot; unionism was the

Brown V Board Of Education Summary
The book Brown v. Board of Education: A Civil Rights Milestone and Its Troubled Legacy by James
T. Patterson is about the struggles leading up to the fight for the desegregations of public schools and
the outcomes. The struggles accelerated to civil rights movement in the 1950s. Patterson describes in
details about the difficult road to the Supreme Court, the outcome of the Supreme Court decision, the
resistance by whites people, especially in the Deep South and the struggles to implement the
challenging transition. Discriminatory practices were apparent in the United States but it was a lot
worse in the Southern States. The Jim Crow Law mandated the segregation of public schools, public
places, public transportations, restrooms, restaurants, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Board of Education is a Supreme Court case compromised of five different cases. Attorney Thurgood
Marshall, founder of the Legal Defense and Education Fund, was an attorney during that time of
discrimination and segregation. Originally, on the five cases Marshall and his team of lawyers were
dealing with fighting inequality/social injustice. Soon they realized that what they were dealing with
was just the tip of an iceberg and decided to fight the main cause of the inequality, segregation. In
order for black kids to have a better future, they have to have good education and that seemed
impossible with the Jim Crow Law system and practices. Marshall and the lawyers felt they had a
chance in winning by basing their case on constitutional law. They used the Fourteenth Amendment of
the U.S. Constitution as a defense for equal treatment. The Supreme Court ruled that segregation in
public school systems violated the Constitution on May 17, 1954. The Courts decision faced great
resistance from whites in the South. They threatened with violence, intimidation and other means as a
reaction of the decision. After the decision, things were not easy and struggles remained. But through
it all, it was victorious. The implementation (Brown II v. Board of Education) proved to be difficult.
Lawyers can do right, they can do good, but they have their limits. The rest of the job is up to society

Playstation Vs Xbox Essay
You sitting on the couch! Do you even game, bro!? Well if you do come down here to Walmart where
we now sell Playstations and Xboxes! These is what you usually hear from companies on commercials
these days and you get excited cause their selling gaming consoles. Now you re stuck in a conundrum
you don t know which to buy a Playstation or Xbox, so even though they have a few major differences
they are also extremely alike.
First Xbox, let s look at the design and user interface. The Xbox is huge way bigger than the PS4. On
the top half of the the console is a vent which means if you want to put something on top of it forget
about it. Towards the backside of the Xbox is three USB ports, but only two are for controllers. The
controller ports are in the back are very awkward because there usually in the front. The Xbox runs off
a Windows 10 UI (User Interface) which makes the home screen more complex and harder to find
things but very nice looking. Now let s look at the exclusive titles for the Xbox. Some titles include
Halo, Gears of War, Titanfall, and Sunset Overdrive. These titles are huge but since the Xbox runs off
of a windows 10 UI that means some games can also be played on the PC. ... Show more content on

The PS4 is much thinner and looks better than an Xbox One. I mean really who wants a huge gaming
system anyways? Unlike the Xbox One the PS4 has the cooling vent on the back of the system, so if
you need to anything on it you could without overheating it. Also unlike the Xbox the PS4 s USB
ports are in the front like a normal gaming console. Now for the PS4 s UI, it s a whole lot simpler and
to me it s much neater. The user interface has to distinct sections, lower half of the UI is the main
menu where you can access recently used apps and games, the upper half is used for the systems tools

The Wrong Direction
Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants
and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions
of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance,
Islam was started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with God and became a prophet.
Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed
came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who
had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. Over the course of
Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many ... Show more content on

The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian
dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the
concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t
commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules,
that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main
reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other
religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual
prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or
Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than
focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going
to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will
come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and
prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is
celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that
God is simply testing one s faith. I would

Boston Massacre Happened
What Really Happened at the Boston Massacre It was a cool night in Boston in early march. I was
passing by the customs house while a group of boys began to yell and hollering at some British
soldiers. As the boys continued the soldiers began to fluster, so much to the point that he strikes one of
the boys with his rifle. And as soon as I can blink, I was in the middle of a crowd surrounding the
soldier. As the crowd grew, more soldiers came to his side. The crowd started to get out of control so
one of the soldiers picked up his musket and fired into the crowd and so his allies followed suit with
one of the musket shots nearly missing me. All of the citizens run in all directions and the crowd
nearly trampling children. I returned home and later discovered that the soldiers were placed under
house arrest and soon after taken to jail and charged for the death of several people. As things heated
up in court, more and more British soldiers arrived in Boston. They did this to bring peace to Boston
but it did not do that it all. It did the exact opposite and caused even more chaos. And as chaos spread

Asian Cultures And Symbols Of The Korean Culture
When many people hear Asian, they automatically think of a Chinese person, but in reality Asian
people consist of Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, etc. One of these asian cultures is the Korean Culture.
This culture consists of traditional as well as modern ideas that bring together the young and old
generations in ways that they can coexist with one another. The beauty of this culture comes from the
elderly and passed down traditions that still thrive within South Korean society today.
Although there are different arrays of cultures also means that they all have unique traits that identify
them such as their symbols that have flourished and were made to represent the people of that culture.
Some of these symbols consist of national symbols that reveals the people of South Korea greatest
achievements and the pride they have for their culture and nation. For instance the nations flag called
the Taegeukgi which was created in 1984 for the sole purpose for South korea to use after the country
split into two. The flags design consists of a white background that represent purity and peace while
the yin and yang represent balance and harmony. The red is the positive while the blue is negative.
The flag also has 4 trigrams in each corner: upper left is sky or heaven, lower left is fire, upper right is
fire and the lower right is earth. The flag overall shows South Korea s pursuit of creativity and

Compare And Contrast The Three Philosophies Of The Zhou...
During one of the more important Chinese Dynasties, the Zhou Dynasty, three philosophies arose to

Because of this, China split into three philosophies. These philosophies include Legalism,
Confucianism, and Daoism, all of these have some similarities and differences.
Confucianism is the philosophy that emphasizes proper behavior. Confucianism was founded by
Confucius, who is a famous Chinese philosopher. Confucius teachings permeated society , spreading

Drosophila Suzukii Research Paper
ABSTRACT
Evaluation of Monitoring for Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) in the Field and Laboratory
in South Dakota and Infestation of Drosophila suzukii in Raspberry Crops
Bennur Agbaba
2016 2017
The spotted wing Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is an attacking pest of berries crops.
Unlike most other Drosophila, this insect can oviposit into ripe and ripening berries, so that they make
them unmarketable. D. suzukii is spreading quickly throughout the continental US and they give a
serious damage in horticultural areas and the fruit industry. Spotted wing drosophila (SWD) puts its
eggs in both commercial fruit and wild fruits, so it is of great concern to fruit and vegetable growers. It
became a pest of economic significance, but it is important point that requires early detection,
monitoring and moderation to control it. Last researches show that D. suzukii infests a number of wild
plant species and also those may be harvested commercially like cranberry. Gray dogwood (Cornus
racemose Lam.), Tatarian honeysuckle (Lonicera tatarica Linneaus), Mulberry (Morus alba L.),
Nanking cherry (Prunus tomentosa L.), Common chokecherry (Prunus virginiana L.), Common

Ally s math teacher Mrs. Pierdy went around checking everyone s paper, but when she got to Ally

Urban Security
It is the right of all those who are living in the urban centers to be assured of their security.
Considering that the urban centers are the hub of the economic growth, it becomes more sensitive to
consider the security situation in the area. At times it becomes very hard or even impractical for one
person to influence the economic decisions of another person. However, the government agencies also
have a responsibility to make sure that those who opt to move from the rural areas to the urban areas
have peace and security. It is true that over the previous times, the case of an increase in the level of
crimes in the urban areas has been escalating. The urban centers have become the breeding ground for
the criminals to advance their agenda of robbing from people. Even though the government may
invest more on the security through foreign missions, there is the need the need to get seized of the
issue of insecurity and crimes in the urban centers. It reaches a point where the role played by the
security agencies becomes oblivious. Considering that in the past the cases of crimes were few, it
means that the current changes in the security status can be attributed to the structural changes that

management products was estimated at more than $3.7 billion in 2013. This market, which includes a
broad range of contraceptive drugs, contraceptive devices/implants, and fertility drugs, is expected to
expand at a healthy compound annual growth rate of more than 7%, increasing by more than $1.5
billion over a span of 5 years. A recent report released by Grand View research stated that healthcare
provider training has been more focused on IUDs and implants due to more young women requesting
these types of contraceptive devices. (Grand View Research, Inc., 2015, p. 01) Grand View further
stated that the North America contraceptives market accounted for the largest share of Contraceptive
growth at over 30.0% in 2014 owing to, the high incidence rates of abortion, rising population of
women within the age group of 15 44 years, and high patient awareness levels in the region. They
forecast that the presence of an extensive product pipeline portfolio is expected to boost industry
growth throughout 2020. Mirena, manufactured by Bayer, is a non seasonal, long acting intrauterine
contraception device that is indicated to treat heavy menstrual bleeding and to also to prevent
conception in women for up to 5 years. This intrauterine device is placed by a patient s healthcare

Characteristics Of The Anzac Legend
Australians fought in many wars, but the most successful war was thought to be the war to end all
wars (World War One). The Anzacs had experienced many hardships in this horrific war; special
qualities were developed throughout the war such as endurance, mateship and courage. On the 25th of
April the birth of the Anzac legend had risen. As they charged into enemy territories, in the early
morning of the 1900s, they were destined to succeed despite the raining gun fire by the Turkish
soldiers. Mateship, courage and endurance gradually strengthened deeper into the war; as a result, no
one could take away these three imperishable qualities. Many historical records show many different
perspectives about the Anzac legend. As a nation, we look upon three main attributes that the Anzacs
had demonstrated courage, mateship and endurance. Therefore, the Anzac legacy continues to prosper
in its purpose to motivate the modern Australian society. As the war progressed, Australian troops
made trenches; this protected them from gunfire. On the other hand diseases were introduced such as
the trench foot. Having a trench foot was painful, swollen conditions caused by feet remaining wet for
too long; if gangrene (progress) set in, the feet would have to be amputated (Darlington, 2012). This
shows determination, which the Anzac possessed regardless of the dangers that may happen. These
hard conditions that the Anzacs had faced are also reflected in an extract from Eric Rapkins s Dairy.

The Importance Of Respect In Society Today
We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know exactly what it
means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society
cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively
listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the law, or
yourself.
In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with
racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since
cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. People of color have not received the respect they
deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists
surfaced and skewed people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as
terrorist attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking
respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as respectful to their parents,
teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful,
one must respect the youth. Jenni Herd wrote in response to Times s Moods and meltdowns: what s
inside the teenage brain? , [We re] angry that we have to clean up your mess, while you hold us in
contempt, analyzing our responses as though we were another species? I would like adults to treat us

Essay on The Effects Of Britan On The Colonies During...
Between the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and the Treaty of Paris in 1763, the most important
change that occurred in the colonies was the emergence of a society quite different from that in
England. Changes in religion, economics, politics, and social structure illustrate this Americanization
of the transplanted Europeans.
By 1763 although some colonies still maintained established churches, other colonies had
accomplished a virtual revolution for religious toleration and separation of church and state. The
British, after many years of religious revolution had established the Anglican Church. In which the
king of England was the head of this church. This resulted in almost no ... Show more content on

The northern colonies developed many trade triangles. One such triangle would be a northern captain
setting out from New England with rum. This ship would then sail to the west coast of Africa and
trade the rum for slaves. The captain would of course reek a handsome profit and with those slaves he
would then take them to the West Indies to trade them for molasses. He then take the molasses and
what was left of the slaves and sell them back in the colonies. This left the Northern colonies much
richer than the southern colonies. The main reason for this difference is that Britain had always
thought that the amount of money in the treasury is how powerful you were. The Americans thought
that the more money you make the better off you were. It generally hinged on how much needed
resources you wanted to own. The Americans saw past that and expanded heavily on trade. Therefore
they could make more money.
Building on English foundations of political liberty, the colonist extend the concepts of liberty and self
government far beyond those envisioned in the mother country. Although Britain had a representative
government they had a monarchy, sort of. Still even though they had a representative government the
members of parliament were not directly chosen by the people. In Virginia, in specific Jamestown, the
House of Burgesses said that representatives were to be chosen by land owning people. Another good
idea from the colonies was the

Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
Amir Ayoub
Fordham University
Abstract
This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we
began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the
lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting
Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food
whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two,
three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the
food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do
things that have a positive outcome more.
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a
neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time
this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant
conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior
and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors.

The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston Essay
In the novel The Woman Warrior Maxine Hong Kingston uses ghosts to represent a battle between
American and Chinese cultures. The two cultures have different views of what a ghost is. The Chinese
believe the ghost spirits may be of people dead or alive. Chinese culture recognizes foreigners and
unfamiliar people as ghosts because, like American ghosts, they are mysterious creatures of the
unknown. Americans view ghosts as spirits of the dead that either help or haunt people. American
ghosts may or may not be real. There spirits are there but physical appearance is a mystery. Chinese
culture has many interpretations ghosts. One way they are seen as is people who have disgraced their

This quote shows how the Chinese viewed Americans as ghosts. This quote shows how even the
husband, a Chinese man, could look like a ghost. Once he was Americanized he easily blended in with
all of the other Americans. The people look unfamiliar and are mysterious and have an unknown
culture. In the poem Hunger , written by Lee Samantha Chang, the author shows how lost the Chinese
characters feel in an American setting. Min, a Chinese woman who is stuck in the alien setting of
America, tells one of her experiences: Now I sat alone, I was overtaken by fear. I longed to be back
home in Brooklyn, curled up in Tian s big chair, with a Chinese story book in my hand. (Hunger) Min
was anxious because she was in a new environment and was surrounded by what Kingston would call
ghosts. And you—and eye not an I—/are walking through it. (Moon and Outgrass lines 6 7) In this line
from the poem, Moon and Outgrass shows how the Chinese were viewed by the American ghosts . As
part of her culture, Maxine s mother tells her stories about ghosts giving her false impressions like
when she was telling Maxine, Once upon a time the world was so thick with ghosts, I could hardly
breathe; I could hardly walk, limping my way around the White Ghosts and their cars. There were

The Age And Stages Questionnaire
Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They are at
the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford
LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and
biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently
diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services.
This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as
how John s age and environment impacts his development.
Age Assessment Communication
During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing
a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up
until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with
John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would
point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying,
drink.
John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started
with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I
instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to preform all 3

these vulnerabilities to compromise computers or trusted websites for profit or excitement.
Psychological factors can often motivate attackers to exploit these vulnerabilities for money,

Essay On Henry Rifle
The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle
patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an
improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire
cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of
gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were
manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month,
bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately
14,000 units had been manufactured. For a Civil War soldier, owning a Henry rifle was a point of
pride.[3] Letters home would call them Sixteen or Seventeen Shooters, depending whether a round
was loaded in the chamber.[citation needed] The US Government purchased about 3,140 (early ...

The Indian History And The Status Of Women
The Indian History and the Status of Women :
Women s security is closely connected to global security still they suffer simply because they differ in
gender. According to the UN Commission on Human Security, the security of one person, one
community, one nation rests on the decisions of many others, sometimes fortuitously, sometimes
precariously . However, in the interrelated world everyone is influenced either positively or negatively
by the decisions of individuals or states (UNIFEM
2003). To understand the status of the Indian women it is important to understand the history gender
discrimination in the country.
In 1947, the Indian history of violence against women was perceivable in the violent nature of the
nation s partition. The women were raped, abducted and their bodies were used as a medium of men s
evil expression as Indian Hindus and the Pakistani Muslims battled for power to defend their
countries. This tactic of humiliating the opponent by using women s bodies as a tool of power
dominance is still being practiced in the Indian society and is visible in the cases of Devi and Sori
(Dobhal 2011: 598).
Mother India, commonly termed as Bharat Mata in Sanskrit is the national personification of
India as a mother goddess which is widely depicted as a woman clad in a saffron sari holding the
national flag. The position of women was high in India and some might argue that degrading
positioning of women in the society is influenced by the impact of colonialism.

The ancient site of Tanis in the Egyptian Delta has been the subject of much examination in relation to
its identity as the official location of the site. The proposed sites of Avaris and Pi Ramesses were
thought to be the location of Tanis. Due to heavy recycling of furniture, décor and construction

Providing evidence supporting the points proposed by Yoyette, M. Bietak s article Avaris the Capital
of the Hyksos explores the most recent excavation at Tell el Dab`a, which is the modern site at the
location of Avaris. Following on from the information Yoyette addressed, Bietak indicates that there
was a struggle with determining the location of the site Tanis, as compounded information suggested it
was the either the site Avaris or Pi Ramesses.
The article goes on to analyse the excavations in the late 20th century by the Austrian Archeological
Institute in Cairo and the Institute of Egyptology of the University of Vienna (Bietak 1996 40). Again
a problem surfaced when multiple artifacts confused the two sites of Pi Ramesses and Avaris, such as
retrieved portals belonging to houses of high officials from the Ramesside period. Findings such as
these only reinforced the view that the site of Tell el Dab`a was Piramesses. Egyptologist Labib
Habachi confirmed through his research and findings that the site was infact Avaris, capital of the
Hyksos (Bietak 1996, 40).
Bietak s document then looks into the architecture of the site, as well as surrounding agriculture,
geographical location in regard to water sources and viable materials and the distance between Qantir
and Tell el Dab`a.

Type A Personality
Today in class we discussed Type A Personality. People with Type A personality generally are
obsessed with being on time, competitive, impatient, and may be easily angered and hostile. These
traits may become dangerous as they can lead to heart problems because of the anger these people
possess. I believe that my personality corresponds to Type A. Although I normally am late for most
things, I get very paranoid when I am running late for something I am passionate about. For example,
I am never late for the movies. I always check the timings a few hours earlier and try to be at the
movie theater around 45 minutes earlier. Another piece of evidence that points to me being Type A is
that I am excessively competitive and cutthroat. I must do anything and everything to be the best. I
believe that there is no point in doing anything unless you want to be number one. My philosophy
(which I borrowed from Grey s Anatomy 2x22) is that being that second best is mediocre, and to settle
for mediocrity is a sign of self disrespect and a substandard work ethic. I refuse to be second best. ...

The Difference Between Online Learning And Traditional...
The differences seem to be profound and similar at the same time with online learning and traditional
classroom education . The online tool of technology has the relationship of human and machine
conversing , working as a unit , impersonal , with a no interaction as with a human being as teacher .
In that reality the teaching basically is deleted where the student is teaching their selves to a certain
extent with learning also. With this you only find information that is updated for the learning
experience of the student , this is the similarity with classroom learning .For the teacher also gives
information also derived from updated curriculum works . The traditional classroom has advantages .
They have a personality each to its own that can be expressed from faculty and student alike . That
shows the personal side to education . Their is someone to set the rules and guidelines to follow ,there
is someone to look up to ,there are others to interact with face to face with for seeing the reaction to
that interaction. With online learning there is the advantage of scheduling with the student being able
to learn at the pace they can more proficient with . The classroom student has to adhere to the rules set
by the instructor no matter the students priorities . The overall learning ability of the student is the best
determining factor with the opportunities afforded to students today . The choices that can determined

which another woman, Mademoiselle Reisz, is responsible for the search for independence in Edna

Understanding Jesus Heritage
Sandra Schneiders (as cited in Ryan, 2012), describes the bible as ...an integral, even normative, part
of living tradition . This can be seen particularly in the use of the infancy narratives which tell the well
known Christmas story, in Catholic religious groups today individual parishioners, churches and
Catholic Education institutions. The text is used and heavily relied upon to inform believers and those
wishing to gain insight into the Catholic religion, on the faith. It appears through contemporary
scholarship, however, that the infancy gospels of Matthew and Luke present to their readers, different
themes, conflicting information and two very different accounts of the significant birth and early life
of Jesus. It is therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He came into the world to work along side the poor, the rich, the healthy, the sick, the good and the
bad. Examples of this are shown in stories such as that of Jesus and Zacchaeus, the sinful tax collector
(Luke 19) and the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30 37). These gospel stories are used today
to show how Jesus love and compassion flowed through to all man kind and that it was not reserved
for any favoured groups or individuals. Luke is demonstrating to his audience the universality of Jesus
and that salvation is offered to everyone.
Mason (2009), indicates it is very unlikely that Luke or Matthew was an eyewitness to Jesus life and
that they relied upon other sources to formulate their gospels. Therefore, as previously discussed, it is
imperative that the infancy narratives be viewed as separate stories and not one historically accurate
recount. This is, in large part, due to the discrepancies and conflicting information readers are
presented with.
An example of these conflicts has been previously discussed, in both texts providing differing
genealogies at the discussion of Jesus birth. Matthew traces Jesus blood line back to that of Abraham
and King David, whereas Luke aligns Jesus heritage as far back as Adam. These conflicting accounts,
as aforementioned, are for differing purposes and convey different messages to the reader. Matthew s
purpose is

Analysis Of An Eye Who Is The Whole World Go Blind
An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. Ghandi. The story of Dawn reinforces this well
known quote by demonstrating the heavy silence of murder and it s feeble justifications.
A few years after the Holocaust, one of it s victims, Elisha, is recruited from his home in Paris as a
terrorist in the city of Palestine. In his short time there, he has participated in violent group retaliation
against the British, yet has never been forced to kill individually until now. This story documents the
tale of a young boy s struggle to come to term with the human s ability to commit cruel acts, as well as
his struggle to justify the ultimate act of cruelty: murder. Within it s startling revelations of the human
conscience, Dawn illuminates that the comforts of revenge are only temporary; murder terminates all
answers.
With this, the author, Elie Wiesel, is able crumble the foundations of terrorisms and the reasoning that
hate can ever resolve hate in his first novel, called Dawn.
Dawn takes place in Palestine, a place where the Jewish community wakes up to a red, vengeful sky.
After surviving the Holocaust the main character, Elisha, has been recruited as a terrorist for the
Freedom Movement. For Elisha, who is now without a family, the Freedom Movement represents a
new dawn, an act of hope, and most importantly, a retaliation in the name of faith to secure what s
rightfully his peoples. However, daybreak presents Elisha with a more tortured reality; he has been

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) And The Acquired...
Introduction The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome (AIDS) do not seem to be a major topic of discussion in the World today. Especially within
the United States, HIV and AIDS are not conversed about as openly as perhaps it was in the past two
decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the end of 2010 there
were approximately 1.1 million people living in the United States with the HIV virus. Of those 1.1
million people, about 16% did not even know they were infected (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention [CDC], 2010). Each year there are approximately 50,000 new HIV infections within the
United States (CDC, 2010). Within the 50,000 new cases of HIV infection, the elderly population is
the fastest growing segment within the United States (Sankar, Nevedal, Neufedl, Berry, Luborsky,
2011, p.2). By 2015, adults who are ages 50 and older will make up approximately 50% of all
HIV/AIDS cases in the United States (Effros, Fletcher, Gebo, Courtney, Halter, Hazzard, High, 2008,
p. 542). With the increasing number of HIV/AIDS infections, the demand for prescription drug
cocktails has increased. Half of the population diagnosed with HIV/AIDS does not receive regular
health care (CDC, 2010). Due to this there are a huge economic impact on the U.S. When it comes to
the cost of medication and treatment, many patients are not able to afford the inflated prices,
especially the elderly

Understanding And Being Able To Speak A New Language Can
Understanding and being able to speak a new language can only bring positive things. In addition to
improving your resume, several studies claim that knowing more than one language makes you
smarter, because you use parts of your brain that would otherwise be unused. In addition, if you are
one of those who travel a lot, knowledge of other languages is vital for you to be able to get the most
out of your travels. Having a second language is one of the most demanded requirements in the
workplace, so today studying a language is no longer a whim, it is almost a necessity. Most medium or
large companies have an international and not only local or national projection, so they need their
employees to be able to communicate with people from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the existence of this simultaneous process, one of the purposes of the teacher should be to help
the student make both hemispheres work together.
The pre school stage, according to theories of neuropsychological development, is excellent for
introducing new concepts in a second language to the child. The child s brain is like a sponge. Since
50 percent of the ability to learn is developed in the first years of life, and another 30 percent by age
eight, early childhood development programs have the opportunity to encourage early learning and
development.
During the first six months of life, babies babble using 70 sounds that make up all the languages in the
world. The babies will learn to talk using only the sounds and words that they hear from their
environment, principally from their parents and caregivers. A baby s brain will then discard the ability
to speak in languages he or she does not hear (Kotulak, 1996). During this period and especially the
first three years of life, the foundations for thinking, language, vision, attitudes, aptitudes, and other
characteristics are laid down, says Ronald Kotulak, author of Inside the Brain. That s one of the
reasons why is better to learn the second language when you are young.
The impulses of the second language must be constant since the children learn faster, but also they

Estrus Synchronization Protocols Essay example
In the current breeding practices, management of the estrous cycle is a common. Breeders want to
know when their mare is in one phase or the other and also wants to be able to determine when she
will ovulate. Manipulation of the estrous cycle is a practice of breeding management. Manipulation of
estrous involves changing the normal cycle through hormone treatments or other methods. Managing
and manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the mare is
experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase.
Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be in estrus.
Breeders can follow certain protocol in order to cause synchronization in the cycle. According to ...

If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not know
when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes the
number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant.
A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization.
The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a
seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles.
Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous
cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus,
pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium.
The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase
and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to
the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the
end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion.
This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next follicular, or estrus
phase.
Hormone treatments are the most common method of

with the nature of water? It s only responding to the forces around it. It s like that for people too: you

  • 2. Labor Day Essay Labor Day is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general last fling of summer festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day has been forgotten, or never actually known to many. The beginnings of the American Labor Movement started with the Industrial Revolution. Once factory systems began to grow, a demand for workers increased. They hired large amounts of young women and children who were expected to do the same work as men for less wages. New immigrants were also employed and called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was founded in 1869 by garment workers in Philadelphia who believed that one union of skilled and unskilled workers should exist. The union was originally a secret, but later was open to all workers, including blacks, women and farmers. Five hundred thousand workers joined in a year. Their goals were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws, equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively weak organization, and eventually fell apart. In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of Labor. Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on skilled workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three hundred thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions. Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s rights should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned with the day to day welfare of the members and should not become involved with politics. Patterson is about the struggles leading up to the fight for the desegregations of public schools and the outcomes. The struggles accelerated to civil rights movement in the 1950s. Patterson describes in details about the difficult road to the Supreme Court, the outcome of the Supreme Court decision, the resistance by whites people, especially in the Deep South and the struggles to implement the challenging transition. Discriminatory practices were apparent in the United States but it was a lot worse in the Southern States. Board of Education is a Supreme Court case compromised of five different cases. Attorney Thurgood Marshall, founder of the Legal Defense and Education Fund, was an attorney during that time of discrimination and segregation. Originally, on the five cases Marshall and his team of lawyers were dealing with fighting inequality/social injustice. Soon they realized that what they were dealing with was just the tip of an iceberg and decided to fight the main cause of the inequality, segregation. In order for black kids to have a better future, they have to have good education and that seemed impossible with the Jim Crow Law system and practices. Marshall and the lawyers felt they had a chance in winning by basing their case on constitutional law. They used the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as a defense for equal treatment. The Supreme Court ruled that segregation in public school systems violated the Constitution on May 17, 1954. The Courts decision faced great resistance from whites in the South. They threatened with violence, intimidation and other means as a reaction of the decision. After the decision, things were not easy and struggles remained. But through it all, it was victorious. The implementation (Brown II v. Board of Education) proved to be difficult. Lawyers can do right, they can do good, but they have their limits. These is what you usually hear from companies on commercials these days and you get excited cause their selling gaming consoles. Now you re stuck in a conundrum you don t know which to buy a Playstation or Xbox, so even though they have a few major differences they are also extremely alike. • 12. The Wrong Direction Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance, Islam was started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with God and became a prophet. Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules, that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that God is simply testing one s faith. The Anzacs had experienced many hardships in this horrific war; special qualities were developed throughout the war such as endurance, mateship and courage. On the 25th of April the birth of the Anzac legend had risen. As they charged into enemy territories, in the early morning of the 1900s, they were destined to succeed despite the raining gun fire by the Turkish soldiers. Mateship, courage and endurance gradually strengthened deeper into the war; as a result, no one could take away these three imperishable qualities. Many historical records show many different perspectives about the Anzac legend. As a nation, we look upon three main attributes that the Anzacs had demonstrated courage, mateship and endurance. On the other hand diseases were introduced such as the trench foot. • 24. The Importance Of Respect In Society Today We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the law, or yourself. In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. People of color have not received the respect they deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists surfaced and skewed people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. Between the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and the Treaty of Paris in 1763, the most important change that occurred in the colonies was the emergence of a society quite different from that in England. Changes in religion, economics, politics, and social structure illustrate this Americanization of the transplanted Europeans. By 1763 although some colonies still maintained established churches, other colonies had accomplished a virtual revolution for religious toleration and separation of church and state. This ship would then sail to the west coast of Africa and trade the rum for slaves. The captain would of course reek a handsome profit and with those slaves he would then take them to the West Indies to trade them for molasses. He then take the molasses and what was left of the slaves and sell them back in the colonies. This left the Northern colonies much richer than the southern colonies. The main reason for this difference is that Britain had always thought that the amount of money in the treasury is how powerful you were. The Americans thought that the more money you make the better off you were. It generally hinged on how much needed resources you wanted to own. The Americans saw past that and expanded heavily on trade. Therefore they could make more money. Building on English foundations of political liberty, the colonist extend the concepts of liberty and self government far beyond those envisioned in the mother country. Although Britain had a representative government they had a monarchy, sort of. Still even though they had a representative government the members of parliament were not directly chosen by the people. Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation Amir Ayoub Fordham University Abstract This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two, three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do things that have a positive outcome more. Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. The two cultures have different views of what a ghost is. The Chinese believe the ghost spirits may be of people dead or alive. Chinese culture recognizes foreigners and unfamiliar people as ghosts because, like American ghosts, they are mysterious creatures of the unknown. Americans view ghosts as spirits of the dead that either help or haunt people. American ghosts may or may not be real. There spirits are there but physical appearance is a mystery. This quote shows how the Chinese viewed Americans as ghosts. This quote shows how even the husband, a Chinese man, could look like a ghost. Once he was Americanized he easily blended in with all of the other Americans. The people look unfamiliar and are mysterious and have an unknown culture. In the poem Hunger , written by Lee Samantha Chang, the author shows how lost the Chinese characters feel in an American setting. Min, a Chinese woman who is stuck in the alien setting of America, tells one of her experiences: Now I sat alone, I was overtaken by fear. I longed to be back home in Brooklyn, curled up in Tian s big chair, with a Chinese story book in my hand. (Hunger) Min was anxious because she was in a new environment and was surrounded by what Kingston would call ghosts. And you—and eye not an I—/are walking through it. (Moon and Outgrass lines 6 7) In this line from the poem, Moon and Outgrass shows how the Chinese were viewed by the American ghosts . As part of her culture, Maxine s mother tells her stories about ghosts giving her false impressions like when she was telling Maxine, Once upon a time the world was so thick with ghosts, I could hardly breathe; I could hardly walk, limping my way around the White Ghosts and their cars. There were Black Ghosts too, but they were open eyed and full of laughter, more distinct than White Ghosts. (Kingston 97) Leaving Maxine baffled as to whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are at the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others (Ashford LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my developmental and biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to as John. He was recently diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and physical therapy services. This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as how John s age and environment impacts his development. Age Assessment Communication During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after seeing a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking at all up until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my time with John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink he would point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in him saying, drink. John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them together. I instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. • 30. Essay On Henry Rifle The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month, bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately 14,000 units had been manufactured. The Indian History And The Status Of Women The Indian History and the Status of Women : Women s security is closely connected to global security still they suffer simply because they differ in gender. According to the UN Commission on Human Security, the security of one person, one community, one nation rests on the decisions of many others, sometimes fortuitously, sometimes precariously . However, in the interrelated world everyone is influenced either positively or negatively by the decisions of individuals or states (UNIFEM 2003). To understand the status of the Indian women it is important to understand the history gender discrimination in the country. In 1947, the Indian history of violence against women was perceivable in the violent nature of the nation s partition. The women were raped, abducted and their bodies were used as a medium of men s evil expression as Indian Hindus and the Pakistani Muslims battled for power to defend their countries. This tactic of humiliating the opponent by using women s bodies as a tool of power dominance is still being practiced in the Indian society and is visible in the cases of Devi and Sori (Dobhal 2011: 598). Mother India, commonly termed as Bharat Mata in Sanskrit is the national personification of India as a mother goddess which is widely depicted as a woman clad in a saffron sari holding the national flag. The position of women was high in India and some might argue that degrading positioning of women in the society is influenced by the impact of colonialism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following on from the information Yoyette addressed, Bietak indicates that there was a struggle with determining the location of the site Tanis, as compounded information suggested it was the either the site Avaris or Pi Ramesses. The article goes on to analyse the excavations in the late 20th century by the Austrian Archeological Institute in Cairo and the Institute of Egyptology of the University of Vienna (Bietak 1996 40). Again a problem surfaced when multiple artifacts confused the two sites of Pi Ramesses and Avaris, such as retrieved portals belonging to houses of high officials from the Ramesside period. Examples of this are shown in stories such as that of Jesus and Zacchaeus, the sinful tax collector (Luke 19) and the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30 37). These gospel stories are used today to show how Jesus love and compassion flowed through to all man kind and that it was not reserved for any favoured groups or individuals. Luke is demonstrating to his audience the universality of Jesus and that salvation is offered to everyone. Mason (2009), indicates it is very unlikely that Luke or Matthew was an eyewitness to Jesus life and that they relied upon other sources to formulate their gospels. Therefore, as previously discussed, it is imperative that the infancy narratives be viewed as separate stories and not one historically accurate recount. Mencius a Chinese philosopher said Think about water: if you slap it, you can make it jump over your head; and if you push and shove, you can make it stay on a mountain.
