criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary
determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general
theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual
possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by
educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime(1990)
essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely
accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes,
ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also
highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal
impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors

One of the greatest challenges facing our world today is hunger. The other is accumulating
enough resources to support a rapidly growing population. There are multiple solutions out there,
each covering one piece of the puzzle. They range from genetically modified plants that increase
yields enough so that they meet the demand and reduce pesticide usage to simply rationing
resources. I propose that we follow the age old adage; give a man a fish and you feed him for a
day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. But instead we replace fishing with
gardening. Education is our strongest weapon against the growing threat to food security.
Community gardens can also play a key role in uniting and strengthening community relationships.
The Lichgate gardenis a beautiful and tranquil place. The flowers bloom in gorgeous colors and
trees give shade to sweaty volunteers and paths create a peaceful and soothing setting. The gardenis
well maintained and it required little weeding and tending. You can just tell by listening that a lot
of the volunteers there already know a lot about what they are doing and are so welcoming and

Even before beginning this nutritional anthropology course, I have been interested in documenting
my daily calorie intake so documenting my process was not out of the norm for me regarding this
assignment. By doing this, I hope that by seeing that the nutritional balance of the food that I eat
is not good for me, I will eventually switch to a healthier diet. Through this assignment, I will

While I know that this is not good behavior and can lead to severe malnutrition on my part, being
a student does not allow for a completely balanced diet. According to Richard Bender and Darna
Dufour, this lack of a nutritional balance can lead to a lack of sufficient dietary energy or

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are rapidly approaching with athletes from all around the
world getting ready to compete for the gold medal. The winter Olympics are considerably
smaller than the summer Olympics as there are less options for winter sports played as during

have these sports or the winter climate or terrain to sustain a winter sport. This does not always

However, I would have to agree with the first half and say that Joe Paterno s actions were
inadequate. Although Joe Paterno reported what he saw to the Penn State president his
responsibility shouldn t have ended there. Yes, he fulfilled his obligation to report any illegal
actions on campus but when the Penn State President chose not to take legal action Paterno
should have made the moral decision and had gone to the authorities. Legally, he fulfilled his
