Abstract: Background: The clinical distinction between acute bacterial meningitis
(ABM) viral meningitis is difficult in the acute phase of illness. Bacterial culture of
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the gold standard technique for confirmation but approx.
50% of cases are not confirmed. Antibiotics are often instituted before lumbar puncture,
reducing the chance of a microbiological diagnosis. Objective: to evaluate the role
efficacy of CSF serum Heparin binding protein (HBP) in diagnosis of bacterial
meningitis. Patients: 30 patients diagnosed with ABM, 30 diagnosed with patients with
viral meningitis 30 subjects with normal CSF examination findings (controls). Setting:
Ministry of Health specialized hospital, Alexandria, Egypt Design Measurements:
Diagnosis was based on history, clinical criteria, CSF examination, latex agglutination
culture and sensitivities. HBP was measured using in both serum CSF. Intervention:
none. Results: CSF HBP levels averaged 0.82 В± 0.3 ng/mL in controls, 3.3 В± 1.7 ng
/mL in viral meningitis 174.8 В± 46.7 ng/mL in ABM. The mean serum HBP level was

Haunting Of Hill House Book Report
For this summer reading I decided to read the Scary Novels. Which included Shirley
Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House, William Peter Blatty s The Exorcist, and
Stephen King s The Shining. The Haunting of Hill House is about an 80 year old
mansion built by a man named Huge Crain. Dr. Montague, a paranormal investigator,
rents the house in hopes to experience the supernatural. He invites four people, Eleanor
Vance, Theodora and Luke Sanderson, based on their pasts. From there they stay for the
summer in hopes to explore the supernatural side. The Exorcist is about a young girl
Regan MacNeil, a daughter of a famous actress, that gets possessed. After the actress,
Chris, tries everything to help her daughter from the so called sickness, she calls in a
priest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author also adds an eerie backstory as to why it would be haunted , which
consisted of a suicide by hanging. It confused me by the end because I didn t know if
she was possessed or going crazy. I leaned more towards the possessed side since the
ghosts would write out her name in I assumed was blood and everyone else could see
it, which knocks out the idea that she was just imagining it; but she also could have
done that herself but the book didn t specify that. My least favorite character was Jack
Torrance from The Shining. I hated it when he broke Danny s arm and how he couldn
t control his temper. Although it wasn t exactly his fault that he went crazy and tired
to also kill his family I feel like it wouldn t have maybe happened in the first place. If
he wasn t an alcoholic with anger issues he wouldn t have been so heavily influenced
by the ghosts into killing his family. One similarity all the books share is the
involvement of an evil force that greatly affects the people. Regan being possessed by a
demon, Eleanor being possessed by the ghosts in Hill House, and Jack being almost
controlled by the ghost of Delbert. A similarity between The Exorcist and The Shining is
the use of a child having
Industry Research Paper
Industry Research Corporate law governs the creation and operations of corporations and
is closely associated with commercial and contract law. Corporate attorneys are experts
in the various laws that regulate the formation, configuration, and termination of
corporations. They also construct joint ventures, licensing arrangements, mergers,
acquisitions, and all of the other legal dealings of corporations (Corporate Law, 2017).
There are many corporate law firms throughout the United States of America and all
over the world. Some of the top U.S. legal firms dealing in corporate law include
Cravath, Swain, Moore LLP; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen, Katz; and Sullivan Cromwell LLP

On the other hand, major threats to the law industry may include the appearance of
various websites offering legal advice online. In order to gain an accurate
understanding of the legal industry s market position at any given time, this analysis
must be constantly conducted. Challenging Forces Each individual firm within the
industry has to consider a few other challenges as well. Competitive rivalry is an
intimidating force for almost all law firms across the world, primarily because there
are just so many firms involved in the industry. Of course, these firms have varying
levels of skill and quality of services. For a firm like Cravath, Swain, Moore, this is
likely not as concerning as it is for others. Because they hire only the best attorneys,
the firm provides some of the highest quality services in the industry. This generates
customer loyalty and strengthens their position in the legal services market. Existing
firms with strong positions are also relatively well protected against the threat of new
entry. In order to enter the market, a new competitor would have to spend years and a
small fortune attending law school before even being allowed to take the exam that
would grant him or her eligibility to do so. Even after graduating law school, there is
no guarantee that the individual will pass the bar exam. If he or she is indeed lucky
enough to pass, it will still take large quantities of time, money, and resources to bring

President Ronald Reagan National Missile Defense
National Missile Defense
Historical Perspective On March 23, 1983, through a nationally televised address to the
nation, then President Ronald Reagan envisioned a Star Wars defense system to replace
the existing element of mutual deterrence between the two Cold War superpowers. The
system calls for a high tech impenetrable ballistic missile shield for the United States.
The speech marks the birth of the Strategic Defense Initiative1 (SDI). It came about
when the Soviets then had numerical advantage over the United States in ballistic
missiles that are increasingly accurate and powerful. In fact, the Soviets has the ability to
overwhelm the United States missiles on the ground should a conflict ever occur. Arms

Unfortunately, some of these nations are not in concert with the goals and vision United
States has for world peace. In fact, they oppose United States growing influence in their
region and view the presence of United States an obstacle to fulfilling their own regional
agenda. They harbor anger and contempt towards the United States for its role.
Furthermore, today s environment provides increasing accessibility to technology,
information and expertise to design, build and deliver weapons of mass destruction that
can threaten our security. There exists an immediate need to address our nation s
capability to defend itself competently in the event of a missile attack from these nations.
The recent years has also seen the emergence of many groups that embrace terrorism.
The world witnessed in pure anger the events of September 11, 2001. Also, mindless
suicidal bombings on streets and shopping malls full of innocent civilians constantly
filled our news. These acts underscore the undivided intent of groups to disrupt world
peace at any cost. Accordingly, these groups have expressed interest in acquiring
chemical, biological or nuclear capabilities to further enhance their ability to terrorize.
Their indiscriminate use of these new abilities threatens our interest at home and aboard.
In 1999, then President Clinton signed into law The National Missile Defense Act of
1999 2 that allowed the United States to deploy a National Missile Defense (NMD) when

Section Of 1 Corinthians 12-13 In The Harpercollins Study...
The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12 13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible
leads the reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body of Christ, the lack of which
is arguably the origin of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The
Christians in Corinth were challenged with several internal problems, many of which
could have been solved by the members seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces
the idea that the church should function as the body of Christ, valuing the abilities and
roles that Godchose for each member. The first part of the note states, Like certain other
ancient writers, Paul regards the human body as illustrating the point that unity and
diversity are not incompatible, applying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corinthians had a way of self praise and boasting over their superior actions. They
would speak in tongues and prophecy in public not to benefit others who are in
attendance but, in Paul s view, simply to elevate themselves in the eyes of others (Bart
Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New Testament, p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12,
Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess, saying that
the Spirit has assigned each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to
understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and
gifts that, when used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the
importance of unity in the church, Paul writes, For just as the body is one and has
many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is
with Christ (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each member of the church has imperative
value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The Corinthians
problem of boasting would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value
in the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that
He intends for them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all
other gifts is the gift of love. Love is crucial because it builds up the community and
strengthens every believer, regardless of their differences. Paul stresses that the most
excellent gift is love, writing If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but
have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers,
and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove
mountains, but have not love, I am nothing (1 Cor

House Of The Red Fish Loyalty Essay
What is a proper explanation for loyalty? Loyalty is the circumstance of adherence and
commitment to a person or institution. Pleasantly, this word can be shown from
interaction to even inside scenes of a book. The narrative, House of the Red Fish, has
plentiful situations in it s sequence that portray as such. In the novel, loyalty exemplar
is represented in the moments in where Tomi is determined to lift up his father s boat,
Tomi s friends generosity in assisting him, and lastly, how neighbors aided Tomi s
grandfather, Grandpa Joji. In chapter nine of the publication, The BTMC , Tomi had
just enough of the impudent behavior he has been receiving after the war, especially
about his father s boat. On page forty six, chapter nine the last few statements, Tomi
states that That was it. The boat was coming up . This is due to the fact that Keet
maltreated he and his friend Billy earlier in the chapter. Before, Tomi had ideas of
lifting up his boat, as seen in chapters such as chapter three he had thoughts. However,
due to the fact of Keet s ill manners toward him, Tomi was even more confident with his
choice. His determination is equal to his loyalty towards his father as lifting a boat
would be considered downright ridiculous by few in the setting of the story.

What Are The Three Postulates Of Cell Theory
LESSON 1: CELL THEORY AND ITS PARTS/ORGANELLES AND FUNCTIONS
Living and Non living Things
All the things we see on earth are created by God Almighty. The rocks, air, soil,
chemicals, plants, trees, animals, humans among others exist on earth. But, we can
classify them as living and non living things. Living or biotic things have life, and
therefore, governed by cells which performed roles for life to occur. These are plants,
animals and humans. On the other hand, non living or abiotic things do not have life but
they are essential to the existence of life. These are the rocks, soil and air.
Cell and Cell Theory

and humans. Cells serve as the building blocks of life for example of ... Show more

exists because of cells. Without cells, there is no life on earth.
All organisms are composed of cellsAll life forms on earth are made up of cells.
Microorganisms, plants, animals, and humans are composed of cells.
All cells come from preexisting cellsCells originated from ancestral cells existing long

General Cell Structures and Functions
Based on Bolsover et al. (2004), a cell has parts, structures or organelles (Table 2) that
have a respective function as a whole for life to occur (Figure 2). Generally, cells have
parts such as nucleus, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes
and cell membrane. Different structure has different function but working as a whole.

Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone
It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a
feel good pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a
full realization of Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of
the Break: Jazz and the Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly
(June 2016) no. 2 330http://muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simonean hour to
write Mississippi Goddam, which is a song based on the place names of oppression. It
was written immediately in the wake of the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham,
Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than fourteen, were murdered
while at Sunday school.
In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the
continuing warning of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out
Too Slow! repeatedly. This song had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we
shall overcome , instead it is a song about a movement. A woman who did not have
much to begin with and small hope for the American future sings, Oh but this whole
country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies.
Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she
first got into show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a
classical pianist who studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and
that s all that was on her mind and what she prepared to be. She born with the name of
Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon, North Carolina. She began to play the piano
at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher and took her to the revivals, where
she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were some of the most exciting
times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going out of
yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings.
When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater,
and she was on it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them,
Mrs. Mazzanovich, decided then and there to give music lessons. For five years, she
studied classical piano with this
The Pros And Cons Of Chile
Chile has a free market oriented economic system whereas for prices for goods and
services are fixed by the law of supply and demand and all are allowed to reach their
equilibrium without intervention by the government or any other outside bodies. In a
free market system a buyer and a seller transact freely only when they voluntarily agree
on a price of a good or a service. This relationship of supply and demandaffects the
marketand the price of a product.
The law of supply and demand states that when there is high demand for a good or
service, the price of the good or service rises. If there is a large supply of a good or
service but not enough demand for the good or service, the price falls. Each transaction
involves a buyer and a seller. The seller places an offer for an item and the buyer may
accept or reject the offer. When there is a high demand for certain good in a particular
city or country and a lack of supply for a quality good, the prices tend to rise as well.
Also, when there is no demand for a certain good due to a weak economy and an ... Show

As the world s largest producer of copper, Chile has been hit hard by the dramatic

Aditive Approach
The United States is full of different ethnicities and races with different cultures and are
accustomed to a variety of different behaviors and ways of learning. It is essential that the
curriculum within the Nation s schools, colleges, and universities are reflected to the
ethnic, cultural, and racial diversity within the United States. Schools, colleges and
universities are using various approaches to inspire ethnic content into the curriculum,
including the contributions, additive, transformation, and social action approaches. To
respond adequately to the ethnic realities with the nationand the world, the curriculum
should be transformed and should help students to develop decision making and social
action skills. According to the book... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Major goals of instruction in this approach are to educate students for social criticism and
social change and to teach them decision making skills. For example, promoting human
rights and peace at schools and working to ensure that the schools building and activities
do not harm the environment. To empower students and help them obtain political
efficacy, the school must help them become reflective social critics and skilled
participants in social change (Banks 1989). The traditional goal of school has been to
socialize students so they would accept unquestioningly the existing ideologies,
institutions, and practices within society and the nation state.
I believe that each approach stated by James Banks is important in its own way and do
not over power one another. The four approaches to the integration of ethnic content into
the curriculum I described above are often mixed and blended in actual teaching
situations. An important goal that all of these approaches share are teaching about racial,
cultural, and ethnic diversity which should be to empower students with knowledge,
skills, and attitudes they need to participate in civil action that will help transform our
world and enhance the possibility for human

Oz is shot in bright and vibrant colours, which pertains to the idea of a magical land
that appears very opposed to the dull and colourless real world of Kansas, assisting on
taking the viewer on the journey over the rainbow . This goal oriented plot in The
Wizard of Oz follows a pattern of development that encourages the viewer to expect
Dorothy to reach her desired goal. The viewer then sees each action of Dorothy s to be a
progress of this desire to go home to Kansas.
The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the
Wizard after destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested.
During this scene it is revealed that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but clever
man who although as no powers, still fulfils the expectations of the story. He gives
Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the answers they seek by giving them the self
confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they were looking for all along and
he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this.
In the final scenes and formal resolution of the film, which is shot in sepia tones creating
a parallelism with Kansas on the opening scene, Dorothy attains her goal of returning
home, waking up in her own bedroom surrounded by friends and family from her real
life, therefore fulfilling the
Theme Of Marriage In Merchant Of Venice
In Elizabethan Society during the time in which William Shakespeare wrote The
Merchant of Venice, many marriages were arranged by the parents of the betrothed
couple to ensure the transfer of wealth as opposed to assuring true love. Once married,
the woman was expected to be subservient to her husband and not control any matters of
the estate. Although not necessarily written as a stance on women s position in society, it
is from this perspective that Shakespeare wrote The Merchant of Venicelaying down an
underlying theme of marriagefor wealth within the play. Lovein William Shakespeare s
The Merchant of Venice is bartered like a tradable commodity in order to gain money,
status, and resources. The social norm during the time period was for fathers to marry
their daughters off to respectable men who could be trusted with a family s wealth
after it was passed down. In the case of Portia in William Shakespeare s The Merchant
of Venice, her father is still determined to choose who she will marry, even from
beyond the grave. By setting up the casket contest, Portia s father is ensuring the

Discrete Wavelet Transform for Compressing and Decompressing the Speech Signal
Bhavana Pujari1, Prof. S.S.Gundal2 Abstract: The original digital speech signal contains
tremendous measure of memory, the main concept for the speech compression algorithm
is presented here, in which bit rate of the speech signal is reduced with maintaining
signal quality for storage, memory saving or transmission over the long distance. The
concentration of this project is to compact the digital speech signal using Discrete
Wavelet Transform and reconstruct same signal using inverse transform, in .NET. The
algorithm of Compression is oriented in three basic operation, they are apply the DWT,
Threshold, Encode the signal for transmission Analysis of compression procedure is
done by comparing the original speech and reconstructed signal. The main advantages of
DWT provides variable compression factor. Keywords: Bit rate, Compression,
Decompression, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), .NET, Threshold. Introduction The
Speech is finest effective medium for viewpoint to face communication and telephony
application. Speech coding is the process of obtaining a compact representation of audio
signals for efficient transmission over band limited wired and wireless channels and/or
storage. The procedure of Compression is done by transferring an original signal to
alternate compressed signal that consist of small amount of memory. Compression is
conceivable simply because information in input data
The Five Types Of Synesthesia
Synesthesia is Latin meaning senses colliding or coming together. All 5 senses are
intertwined so there are more than 20 types of Synesthesia. Some, however, are more
common than others. To explain how this works, when one of the five senses has been
put to use, that triggers another sense to work together with that sense. So when a baby
hears her mother s voice, she is also seeing it and smelling it (Wikipedia) (Than, Ker.
LiveScience).
Synesthesia is uncontrollable, involuntary, and stable. All this means that a Synesthete
can t decide when or how it happens. However, a Synesthete will see the same things
each time.
A synesthete tested on his or her associations will give the same answers 70% 100%
over a period of weeks even years! (Gross, Veronica). Synesthesia usually starts from a
very young age. It occurs mostly in females and is genetic. 1 in 200 people in the U.S
have Synesthesia. Synesthetes usually don t think anything is wrong with them. They ...

Proud s Theory Of Mind
Furthermore, there has been said that with the start of preschool communication skills
begin to emerge (Jenkins). Being able to have conversational skills and understanding
your peers is an important aspect in children s lives. Jones said that one key milestone in
the developmental process is the growth of theory of mind, the ability to understand that
peers differ from self (Jenkins). The theory of mind is the ability to attribute mental
states such as: beliefs, intents, desires, pretending, and knowledge. It has been said that
the theory of mind emerges as early as three years old (Jenkins). The ability to initiate
interaction with and respond to peers develop when more complex language skills
emerge (Jenkins). If children fail to gain these skills, they are more than likely going to
be alienated by their peers and reveal problem behaviors.... Show more content on

If social skills were to be a real subject most children would struggle (Lawson). They
would have difficulties because it would be their hardest subject. Gaining social skills
isn t the easiest skill to have especially for children who are shy and quiet. Social skills
are skills that children acquire along their way up. It is important that children build
friendships with their peers so that they will enjoy and look forward to going to school.
There are a variety of students that may have social skills difficulties. For example,
children who have attentional problems, children with memory problems, children with
language and communication difficulties, and children with autism have social skill
difficulties (Lawson). Some children differ broadly on how well they are able to build
relationships and obtain peer acceptance. Those are the ones that are considered to be
popular and also the leaders at school. They are very much self confident and influential

I was born in 1981, the starting period of China s economy reform designed and
implemented under the leadership of Mr. De Xiaoping. I have witnessed the dramatic
changes in the continuous infrastructure construction, observable improvement of living
standards, greater enrichment of social life, gradual deregulation of policies and strong
growth of local economy. All the positive sides make everybody fond of the market
economy, especially my parents, both of who are managers of property development
companies. My parents have great influence on me, so when I was young, I start to learn
how to keep abreast of the modern society by learning the new knowledge and skills.
The world is already heading toward the new economy, although there are still some
turmoil in certain fields and period. The explosive information technology changed the
world in such quick and significant manners that many economists can t explain well.
Meanwhile, China is joining WTO, the economy at this moment is growing at 8%
annually, by further eliminating non tariff barriers and reduce tariff rates, China s market
will experience huge structural changes and countless opportunities will emerge to make
China the hottest spot in the world economy. As a Chinese student, I am living in a new
The Doctrine Of The United States
Helen Phan

History 313
Gorman
Venezuela The Monroe Doctrine was a policy issued in 1832, when Spanish and
Portuguese colonies in Latin American had gained their independence, except for Cuba
and Puerto Rico. The doctrine stated that any future colonization of free American
continents by the European powers was prohibited If Europe were to colonize any land
in the North or South America, the United States would have to intervene Due to
defaulted debts to European investors, German, Great Britain, and Italian blocked the
ports of Venezuela until the debts were paid off. They assured President Theodore
Roosevelt that this blocking was only temporary and there were no territorial ambitions,
which would violate the Monroe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to this, President James M. Monroe proposed the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 of
trying to politically separate the United States and the western hemisphere and Europe.
The doctrine proposed that Americans were off limits to further European colonization.
The deal offered to the European with this doctrine was that the United States would not
interfere with European affairs along with stopping any western hemisphere as well if
the European powers abstained from any more efforts to colonize the Americans. If
European powers continued to attempt colonizing land, it would be viewed as acts of
aggression and such acts required American s intervention. Otherwise, the Americans
intended to remain neutral to existing European colonies. The British and United States
wanted to have guarantees that no other European powers would move in, they wanted
to keep them out of the new world because they did not want their trade jeopardized.
Over the course of the nineteenth century, the Monroe Doctrine evolved and found
support for United States society. However, Theodore Roosevelt s way of interpreting it
and how he applied it to situations was restrained. His view on the doctrine was
narrowed and saw the doctrine s purpose was to
Compare And Contrast Avengers Vs Dc.
Over the years in the world of comics there has been a major rivalry between Marvel
Studios and DC. Both studios have put out amazing content and are the top in
Superhero creation. However, there s always the question of which one is better.
There are two teams, Marvel s Avengers and DC s Justice League. Each team has
multiple members, and it s always been a debate on which team would come out
victorious. In a battle between the Avengers and the Justice League who would win
based on the heroes individual skills? In order to find out how a battle between the
two groups would happen we split the two teams into six different pairs. Each hero
was pit against someone who would have a similar skill set or power level as them.
After the sets were created, we then began to find out each character s individual skills.
Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each hero against the other created a modest
guess on who would win the battle. This is based solely on the skills of each character
and does not factor in battle areas or if the teams were to fight against each other together.

Superman is an iconic symbol even to people who have never seen the movies or read
the comics. Superman, or Clark Kent is an alien from the planet Krypton who fights for
Earth and all the humans who live there. From his strength to his speed and even being
able to fly Superman is superhuman in everything he does. However, Superman has a
few glaring weaknesses. Krypton is a radioactive particle from Krypton that weakens
Superman to the point of being human. Despite being from another planet Krypton doesn

America Is The Great Melting Pot
America is the great Melting Pot . From an early age every American is taught that
America contains a mixture of the world s cultures in a perfectly blended mixture. We
honor and respect all cultures and invite them to bring their customs here to the United
States. But do we really? Take for instance, the Hmong refugees who involuntarily moved
to America. Cultural Assimilation seemed to be forced down the refugees throats.
Keeping their native customs was looked on with horror and disgust.
Cultural Assimilation is the process in which a person s and or groups culture comes to
resemble that of another group. When most immigrants come to the Untied States they
are heavily advised to take up English as their first language. You are advised to learn all
about our government, how to drive, and the value of individualism. The idea of the
Great Melting Pot is completely ironic to me. It gives the impression that we are all one
big mixture of cultures. In reality the melting pot spreads thin all other cultures, but the
American culture. Other cultures seem to be lost and assimilated into American
ideologies and cultures. Cultural Assimilation for refugees and others, such as the
Hmong can be incredibly difficult and life threatening. Take the Lee Family, for example.
The Lee family arrived in the United States on December 18th in 1980. They left their
country seeking political asylum and ended up in the U.S. They experiences first hand

The Chesapeake Bay Watershed
Nowadays, people stay away from analyzing how their actions impact the environment
producing long lasting consequences. The opportunity to act is right where anyone
stands and the closest one to this area is known as the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Therefore, the amount of nutrients going into the Chesapeake Bay should be reduced
since the use of fertilizers has increased dramatically over time causing water pollution
and the death of many species.
The Chesapeake Bay Watershed is the largest one in the Atlantic Seaboard of North
America; it covers 64,000 square miles of the United States, starting from the bottom of
New York and flowing all the way to the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia
. It encompasses the

Even though, fertilizers are needed to supply essential nutrients to the growth of plants;
an excess of them is one of the major issues contributing to pollution in the Chesapeake
Bay Watershed. Fertilizers are mainly composed of two elements: nitrogen and
phosphorus.(4) Throughout the years, millions of pounds of this nutrients are applied
all around the Chesapeake Bay Watershed; everything not absorbed by the soil or taken
up by plants eventually reaches the Chesapeake Bay through storm water runoff. This
nutrients end up creating algae blooms in the water, which reduce the amount of
sunlight available to underwater grasses; not allowing plants to photosynthesize and
produce the food they need to survive. Algae then decomposes creating dead zones
killing fish and other species since oxygen is needed for any organism to live. (5)
Building additional vegetation areas to create green filters is a solution that will decrease
the amount of pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. This will be effective given
the fact that soil has the ability of breaking down nutrients into harmless substances and
plants are able to facilitate the process of water infiltrating back into the ground and
stopping storm water runoff. Thus, more green areas will be able to retain and control
the amount of pollutants going into the bay. This
The Handicapped Photographer And A Homeowner In
Viewfinder...
In Raymond Carver s short story Viewfinder , Carver creates a juxtaposition between his
two main characters; a handicapped photographer and a homeowner. At first, the
juxtaposition of these two characters seems irrational, but as the story progresses the two
character s similarities are revealed as the theme of loss becomes evident. At the
beginning of the story, the homeowner is hostile towards the handicapped photographer
as he asks immediately, How did you lose your hands? This creates an agnostic tone and
raises tension within the encounter due to the homeowner s sensitivity. But his eagerness
to invite the stranger into his home shows his current lack of connection, although he
uses the excuse that he just wanted to see how he would
The Opera Speculative Design Project

accomplishments within the Opera speculative design project. This document will
provide context for my designs and practical work evidenced in my journal and blog. In
this project I will explore Juxtaposing themes, musical and dramatic styles and characters
through research, planning and execution.
We will also construct a set on one of two operas L Enfant et les Sortileges by Maurice

After developing themes such as identity and animal behaviour we incorporated those
ideas into manikins which would then be presented as a potential puppet idea. Once we
had a better understanding of the operas we then selected which opera we would like to
do, and what project we would like to design on. I chose to do Lulu By Alban Berg as a
speculative design as it was the play I understood the most, I also wanted to develop my
process and craftsmanship skills.
After researching the play, I created a scene summery and a character list to refer to
while designing. I also created a storyboard of scenes of significance which gave me an
idea of who was at the location and what was going on. I then started to develop my
characters starting with a group drawing, front, back and side drawings and Photoshop
final images.
Once I had a clear image of my characters I then started to experiment within my model
box for inspiration. Once I had a few ideas I then produced some rough sketches,
resulting in a final drawing. I then produced my set on auto cad so I had a good idea of
scale and measurements resulting in a final orthographic, side elevation and cutting list.
After I had my measurements and rough drawings I then drew out the theatre royal in
sketch up and did a scene by scene breakdown of the opera. With this visual aid I then
started my set construction.
When I received the technical drawings of the
How Does Fatty Acid Contribute To The Production Of
Glucose
An individual engaged in vigorous exercise demands much more energy than a
sedentary individual. The supplied energy during a 100 meter sprint or a marathon run
comes at a cost, which is the production of ATP (Hill et al.). At the beginning of exercise
the body relies on the glycogen stores in muscle that aids in ATP production. Eventually,
glucoselevels in muscles begin to decrease as the activity continues, it s also thought
that insufficient glucose causes tiredness (Hill et al.) . Glucose must be provided
continuously in order to satisfy one s energy demands. Consequently, glucose is
delivered by blood to the muscles. Fatty acids also contribute to the process of
generating energy when glucose levels are low, which are broken down to

Solitary Confinement In Prison
Effects of Solitary Confinement Sean Solar P.3 If you commit the crime you serve the
time, but the long term effects of being confined with limited accessibility and
constantly living in fear can affect the brain a lifetime. In prison s across the country
many are being put in solitary confinement because of violations of jail rules. While in
confinement they get a small room to stare at the walls and limited personal belonging,
usually just a book or a notepad. While being locked in their room Вѕ of the time they

Without human interaction they will begin to feel lonely and depressed. After a while

alone isn t always bad and sometimes is relaxing but humans need other human
interaction. We don t need it everyday but humans have a connection with other
humans weather it is a physical or emotional and it s how we learn about other people
and share how we feel. Human interaction also brings happiness to one more than
materials can, psychologist James H. Fowler did a study on 5,000 participants proving
that you are more happy when the people you are with people. Also if your surrounding

studies have proven that solitary confinement isn t an effective way of punishment but in
our society and country it is still being practiced. I believe it is a good way to keep the
jails separated and under control, but when putting mentally ill convicts in a room with 0
human interaction it is going to further and worsen the effects which will not help them

Women, Oppression, And Treatment Of Young Girls And
Women...
From the moment the first American settlers stepped off their musty ship and laid
foot on the fertile soil which makes up our great nation, women in America have
almost always been seen as inferior when compared to their male counterparts. What s
more, Americans have a rich history in oppressing those we deem to be lesser. In
terms of women, this oppression has taken on many forms throughout the years. From
not being able to go to school to receive a proper education, to being denied suffrage, to
being criticized for how they look or what they wear, women have encountered
obstacles that men can sometimes only imagine. We as a nation have a defining past
in which women were, and sometimes still are, expected to look or act in a manner
defined as appropriate by men and even by each other. Nowadays, it seems as though
we are attempting to compensate for the years of mistreatment by sending positive
messages of acceptance to young girls and women alike. However, while one half of
the population is being praised for their uniqueness, there is still another half who are
being left to fend for themselves in the shadows. Men and boys, though always
perceived as the strong and indestructible members of society, are not given the same
encouraging spotlight as women and girls. We live in a world where problems related to
self image and self worth are genderneutral; they do not merely seek to harm a single
sex. Why then, does society typically only remind women how truly special they

2. Issue: Lack of budgeting and financial considerations.
The team at Can Go never discusses the cost of projects and systems. The most word
they use is expensive. They all agree that the ASRS system is going to be expensive and
that a market research will be expensive but they have no specific dollar amount as to
what expensive means. The costs need to be put into measurable units. The project team
never runs the numbers by the finance department. The team plans to purchase two
ASRS systems without checking with the Finance department.
2. Recommendations: Every budget and project needs a budget. The budget will help
with planning and ensure that the team is keeping expenditures under control and also
will give the team a target of what needs to be accomplished. The first question the
team should ask before undertaking a project is how much is this going to cost and
what the value is to the company? The company needs to have a cost benefit analysis to
find out if the cost of the project is justified by the value and benefit it brings into the
organization. The projects are supposed to be approved by the finance department before
they are undertaken to ensure that there are funds to fund the project. ... Show more

William Lane Craig s Cosmological Argument
There is no doubt that one of the most debated and misunderstood topics is the creation
of the universe and furthermore the existence of God. In natural theology, a theology that
provides arguments for the existence of God based on reason, a cosmological argument
is an argument in which the existence of a unique being such as God is deduced from
facts or alleged facts concerning causation, change, motion, or contingency in respect of
the universeas a whole or processes within it. Like all cosmological arguments, the
KalДЃm cosmological argumentis an argument from the existenceof the universe to the
existence of God. A defender of this argument is William Lane Craig, an American
theologian, Christian apologist, and analytic philosopher. In this paper, I will describe
Craig s argument for the existence of God and oppose Craig s argument.... Show more

The KalДЃm cosmological argument suggests that the universe was created by God. The
KalДЃm argument rests on the idea that the universe has a beginning in time whereas
other forms of the argument are consistent with the universe having an infinite past.
However according to the KalДЃm argument, it is because the universe has a beginning
in time that its existence is in need of an explanation. The KalДЃm cosmological
argument is rooted in the Ilm al KalДЃm heritage. Ilm al KalДЃm, also called Islamic
scholastic theology is foreshortened to KalДЃm. It is an Islamic undertaking born out of
the need to establish and defend the tenets of Islamic faith. William Lane Craig wrote a
book titled The KalДЃm Cosmological Argument in 1979 that comprises a defense of the
argument. Craig establishes the existence of God based upon the metaphysical
impossibility of an infinite regress of past

  • 3. Haunting Of Hill House Book Report For this summer reading I decided to read the Scary Novels. Which included Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House, William Peter Blatty s The Exorcist, and Stephen King s The Shining. The Haunting of Hill House is about an 80 year old mansion built by a man named Huge Crain. Dr. Montague, a paranormal investigator, rents the house in hopes to experience the supernatural. He invites four people, Eleanor Vance, Theodora and Luke Sanderson, based on their pasts. From there they stay for the summer in hopes to explore the supernatural side. The Exorcist is about a young girl Regan MacNeil, a daughter of a famous actress, that gets possessed. After the actress, Chris, tries everything to help her daughter from the so called sickness, she calls in a priest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author also adds an eerie backstory as to why it would be haunted , which consisted of a suicide by hanging. It confused me by the end because I didn t know if she was possessed or going crazy. I leaned more towards the possessed side since the ghosts would write out her name in I assumed was blood and everyone else could see it, which knocks out the idea that she was just imagining it; but she also could have done that herself but the book didn t specify that. My least favorite character was Jack Torrance from The Shining. I hated it when he broke Danny s arm and how he couldn t control his temper. Although it wasn t exactly his fault that he went crazy and tired to also kill his family I feel like it wouldn t have maybe happened in the first place. If he wasn t an alcoholic with anger issues he wouldn t have been so heavily influenced by the ghosts into killing his family. One similarity all the books share is the involvement of an evil force that greatly affects the people. Regan being possessed by a demon, Eleanor being possessed by the ghosts in Hill House, and Jack being almost controlled by the ghost of Delbert. A similarity between The Exorcist and The Shining is the use of a child having
  • 4. Industry Research Paper Industry Research Corporate law governs the creation and operations of corporations and is closely associated with commercial and contract law. Corporate attorneys are experts in the various laws that regulate the formation, configuration, and termination of corporations. They also construct joint ventures, licensing arrangements, mergers, acquisitions, and all of the other legal dealings of corporations (Corporate Law, 2017). There are many corporate law firms throughout the United States of America and all over the world. Some of the top U.S. legal firms dealing in corporate law include Cravath, Swain, Moore LLP; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen, Katz; and Sullivan Cromwell LLP (Sterbenz, 2013). On the other hand, major threats to the law industry may include the appearance of various websites offering legal advice online. In order to gain an accurate understanding of the legal industry s market position at any given time, this analysis must be constantly conducted. Challenging Forces Each individual firm within the industry has to consider a few other challenges as well. Competitive rivalry is an intimidating force for almost all law firms across the world, primarily because there are just so many firms involved in the industry. Of course, these firms have varying levels of skill and quality of services. For a firm like Cravath, Swain, Moore, this is likely not as concerning as it is for others. Because they hire only the best attorneys, the firm provides some of the highest quality services in the industry. This generates customer loyalty and strengthens their position in the legal services market. Existing firms with strong positions are also relatively well protected against the threat of new entry. In order to enter the market, a new competitor would have to spend years and a small fortune attending law school before even being allowed to take the exam that would grant him or her eligibility to do so. Even after graduating law school, there is no guarantee that the individual will pass the bar exam. If he or she is indeed lucky enough to pass, it will still take large quantities of time, money, and resources to bring

The system calls for a high tech impenetrable ballistic missile shield for the United States. The speech marks the birth of the Strategic Defense Initiative1 (SDI). In fact, they oppose United States growing influence in their region and view the presence of United States an obstacle to fulfilling their own regional agenda. Furthermore, today s environment provides increasing accessibility to technology, information and expertise to design, build and deliver weapons of mass destruction that can threaten our security. There exists an immediate need to address our nation s capability to defend itself competently in the event of a missile attack from these nations. The recent years has also seen the emergence of many groups that embrace terrorism. The world witnessed in pure anger the events of September 11, 2001. Also, mindless suicidal bombings on streets and shopping malls full of innocent civilians constantly filled our news. These acts underscore the undivided intent of groups to disrupt world peace at any cost. Accordingly, these groups have expressed interest in acquiring chemical, biological or nuclear capabilities to further enhance their ability to terrorize. Their indiscriminate use of these new abilities threatens our interest at home and aboard. In 1999, then President Clinton signed into law The National Missile Defense Act of 1999 2 that allowed the United States to deploy a National Missile Defense (NMD) when technologically
  • 7. Section Of 1 Corinthians 12-13 In The Harpercollins Study... The first section of the note on 1 Corinthians 12:12 13 in the HarperCollins Study Bible leads the reader to contemplate the issue of unity in the body of Christ, the lack of which is arguably the origin of most, if not all of the issues facing the Corinthian church. The Christians in Corinth were challenged with several internal problems, many of which could have been solved by the members seeking unity in their diversity. Paul introduces the idea that the church should function as the body of Christ, valuing the abilities and roles that Godchose for each member. The first part of the note states, Like certain other ancient writers, Paul regards the human body as illustrating the point that unity and diversity are not incompatible, applying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corinthians had a way of self praise and boasting over their superior actions. They would speak in tongues and prophecy in public not to benefit others who are in attendance but, in Paul s view, simply to elevate themselves in the eyes of others (Bart Ehrman, A Brief Introduction to the New Testament, p. 228). In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul lists the variety of gifts that various members of the church possess, saying that the Spirit has assigned each gift to each individual. Paul wants the Corinthians to understand that God has given the individuals in the community distinctive roles and gifts that, when used appropriately, better the church as a whole. To emphasize the importance of unity in the church, Paul writes, For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ (1 Cor 12:12). Paul shows how each member of the church has imperative value, just as each part of the body is essential for it to work properly. The Corinthians problem of boasting would fade away as soon as they acknowledge that there is value in the diversity of the members of the church. God placed each person in the role that He intends for them to fill and everyone must recognize His placement. Greater than all other gifts is the gift of love. Love is crucial because it builds up the community and strengthens every believer, regardless of their differences. Paul stresses that the most excellent gift is love, writing If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing (1 Cor

  • 13. Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2 330http://muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simonean hour to write Mississippi Goddam, which is a song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school. In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about a movement. A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American future sings, Oh but this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies. Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind and what she prepared to be. She born with the name of Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon, North Carolina. She began to play the piano at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher and took her to the revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were some of the most exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going out of yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings. When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was on it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them, Mrs. Mazzanovich, decided then and there to give music lessons. For five years, she studied classical piano with this
  • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Chile Chile has a free market oriented economic system whereas for prices for goods and services are fixed by the law of supply and demand and all are allowed to reach their equilibrium without intervention by the government or any other outside bodies. In a free market system a buyer and a seller transact freely only when they voluntarily agree on a price of a good or a service. This relationship of supply and demandaffects the marketand the price of a product. The law of supply and demand states that when there is high demand for a good or service, the price of the good or service rises. If there is a large supply of a good or service but not enough demand for the good or service, the price falls. Each transaction involves a buyer and a seller. The seller places an offer for an item and the buyer may accept or reject the offer. But Chile has weathered the drop in copper prices which have plunged by 35 percent since their peak in 2011 thanks to government policies enacted in the recent past. This can be seen the picture

It is essential that the curriculum within the Nation s schools, colleges, and universities are reflected to the ethnic, cultural, and racial diversity within the United States. Schools, colleges and universities are using various approaches to inspire ethnic content into the curriculum, including the contributions, additive, transformation, and social action approaches. To respond adequately to the ethnic realities with the nationand the world, the curriculum should be transformed and should help students to develop decision making and social action skills. Major goals of instruction in this approach are to educate students for social criticism and social change and to teach them decision making skills. For example, promoting human rights and peace at schools and working to ensure that the schools building and activities do not harm the environment. To empower students and help them obtain political efficacy, the school must help them become reflective social critics and skilled participants in social change (Banks 1989). The traditional goal of school has been to socialize students so they would accept unquestioningly the existing ideologies, institutions, and practices within society and the nation state. I believe that each approach stated by James Banks is important in its own way and do not over power one another. The four approaches to the integration of ethnic content into the curriculum I described above are often mixed and blended in actual teaching situations. An important goal that all of these approaches share are teaching about racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity which should be to empower students with knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to participate in civil action that will help transform our world and enhance the possibility for human

The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the Wizard after destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested. During this scene it is revealed that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but clever man who although as no powers, still fulfils the expectations of the story. He gives Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the answers they seek by giving them the self confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they were looking for all along and he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this. Theme Of Marriage In Merchant Of Venice In Elizabethan Society during the time in which William Shakespeare wrote The Merchant of Venice, many marriages were arranged by the parents of the betrothed couple to ensure the transfer of wealth as opposed to assuring true love. Once married, the woman was expected to be subservient to her husband and not control any matters of the estate. Although not necessarily written as a stance on women s position in society, it is from this perspective that Shakespeare wrote The Merchant of Venicelaying down an underlying theme of marriagefor wealth within the play. Lovein William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice is bartered like a tradable commodity in order to gain money, status, and resources. The social norm during the time period was for fathers to marry their daughters off to respectable men who could be trusted with a family s wealth after it was passed down. In the case of Portia in William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, her father is still determined to choose who she will marry, even from beyond the grave. By setting up the casket contest, Portia s father is ensuring the commodity, Portia s hand in marriage and undying love, will go to who he would have approved of to court his daughter. By obtaining the commodity in question, the suitors would also obtain the vast amount of wealth held by Portia s family. One suitor in particular, the Prince of Morocco, best exemplifies this when he is deciding what casket to choose; Let s see once more this saying

The concentration of this project is to compact the digital speech signal using Discrete Wavelet Transform and reconstruct same signal using inverse transform, in .NET. The algorithm of Compression is oriented in three basic operation, they are apply the DWT, Threshold, Encode the signal for transmission Analysis of compression procedure is done by comparing the original speech and reconstructed signal. The main advantages of DWT provides variable compression factor. Keywords: Bit rate, Compression, Decompression, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), .NET, Threshold. Introduction The Speech is finest effective medium for viewpoint to face communication and telephony application. Speech coding is the process of obtaining a compact representation of audio signals for efficient transmission over band limited wired and wireless channels and/or storage. The procedure of Compression is done by transferring an original signal to alternate compressed signal that consist of small amount of memory. In a battle between the Avengers and the Justice League who would win based on the heroes individual skills? In order to find out how a battle between the two groups would happen we split the two teams into six different pairs. Each hero was pit against someone who would have a similar skill set or power level as them. After the sets were created, we then began to find out each character s individual skills. Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each hero against the other created a modest guess on who would win the battle. From an early age every American is taught that America contains a mixture of the world s cultures in a perfectly blended mixture. Fertilizers are mainly composed of two elements: nitrogen and phosphorus.(4) Throughout the years, millions of pounds of this nutrients are applied all around the Chesapeake Bay Watershed; everything not absorbed by the soil or taken up by plants eventually reaches the Chesapeake Bay through storm water runoff. This nutrients end up creating algae blooms in the water, which reduce the amount of sunlight available to underwater grasses; not allowing plants to photosynthesize and produce the food they need to survive. Algae then decomposes creating dead zones killing fish and other species since oxygen is needed for any organism to live. (5) Building additional vegetation areas to create green filters is a solution that will decrease the amount of pollutants in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. This will be effective given the fact that soil has the ability of breaking down nutrients into harmless substances and plants are able to facilitate the process of water infiltrating back into the ground and stopping storm water runoff. Thus, more green areas will be able to retain and control the amount of pollutants going into the bay. This

From the moment the first American settlers stepped off their musty ship and laid foot on the fertile soil which makes up our great nation, women in America have almost always been seen as inferior when compared to their male counterparts. What s more, Americans have a rich history in oppressing those we deem to be lesser. In terms of women, this oppression has taken on many forms throughout the years. From not being able to go to school to receive a proper education, to being denied suffrage, to being criticized for how they look or what they wear, women have encountered obstacles that men can sometimes only imagine. We as a nation have a defining past in which women were, and sometimes still are, expected to look or act in a manner defined as appropriate by men and even by each other. • 33. William Lane Craig s Cosmological Argument There is no doubt that one of the most debated and misunderstood topics is the creation of the universe and furthermore the existence of God. In natural theology, a theology that provides arguments for the existence of God based on reason, a cosmological argument is an argument in which the existence of a unique being such as God is deduced from facts or alleged facts concerning causation, change, motion, or contingency in respect of the universeas a whole or processes within it. Like all cosmological arguments, the KalДЃm cosmological argumentis an argument from the existenceof the universe to the existence of God. A defender of this argument is William Lane Craig, an American theologian, Christian apologist, and analytic philosopher. The KalДЃm cosmological argument suggests that the universe was created by God. The KalДЃm argument rests on the idea that the universe has a beginning in time whereas other forms of the argument are consistent with the universe having an infinite past. The KalДЃm cosmological argument is rooted in the Ilm al KalДЃm heritage. Ilm al KalДЃm, also called Islamic scholastic theology is foreshortened to KalДЃm. It is an Islamic undertaking born out of the need to establish and defend the tenets of Islamic faith.
