Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands, By Tim Burton
In my essay I am going to reference two films, Edward Scissorhands (1990) and Vincent
(1982), directed by Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands, is Tim Burton s take on the
Frankenstein story. We can clearly see the influences that have appealed to Tim Burton in
the classic Frankenstein (1931) was not the character s monstrousness appeal but the
sense of sad sorrow that audiences sympathized to in Boris Karloffs performance.
Whereas in Tim Burton s vision, we see a Special character as the Frankenstein Monster,
in the similar way that we call people with disabilities Special. And then we have
Vincent, a short stop motion animation. The short film itself is an entertaining aspect of
a suburban boy named Vincent who recites Edgar Ellen Poe and categorizes with Horror
filmstar, Vincent Price. With similarities to Edward Scissorhands, the main character is a
chance for Tim Burton to represent himself on the screen as a tortured boy, outsider and
artist. I am going to discuss how cultural and psychological concerns are represented
through characterization, art direction, cinematography, and sound. I will support my
discussion by analyzing a reflection on both the similarities and differences between the
two films, and whether a distinctive Burton signature (aesthetics, cultural and
psychological concerns) is evident.
Cultural and psychological concerns is apparent through the use of characterization.
Isolation/Alienation in the suburban life plays a big role in both the films
China s Constitution Case
1.When was the latest Constitution written? What does this say about the countries rule
of law?
The United Kingdom s constitution was written in 1215 and was last revised in 2013.
This shows that the rule of law has remain relatively consistent besides being updated to
keep up with the times. China s constitution was adopted in 1982 and revised in 2004,
which shows that China s current rule of law is a little bit more modernized.
2.Are the three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial) mentioned in the document?
Yes, the United Kingdommentions its parliament, three judicial systems in its different
regions (Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England/Wales) and also outlines the powers of
its monarch such as the ability to dismiss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What types of rights are protected by the different constitutions? (political, economic, or
/and social)
In the United Kingdom s constitution, the people are given rights such as the right to life,
thought, religion, and expression. The citizens of the People s Republic of China are
allowed freedom of speech, press, assembly, association, precession, demonstration and
religious belief.
4.Out of the two constitutions you looked at, which provided the greatest amount of
protection?
The United Kingdom s constitution provided more protection because in China, the
central governing party is the Communist Party and although power is given to the
National People s Congress to make decisions, most of those members belong to the
founding Communist Party.
5.What do you think is missing from the two documents?
The People s Republic of China s constitution does declare it a socialist state and gives
power to the National People s Congress, but is missing the fact that all power is given to
the Communist Party. The constitution of the United Kingdom is missing a single
document to represent the constitution because it is made up of so many different
documents.
6.What is unique about your documents? Anything written in it that we do not have in our

The Concept Of Total Cost Of Ownership Or Tco
Introduction:
The concept of total cost of ownership or TCO (Cavinato 1991, 1992), life cycle
costing (Jackson and Ostrom 1980), product life cycle costs (Shields and Young 1991),
and total cost of (Ellram and Siferd 1993) are all related. There is no unique definition of
TCO, since the meaning of TCO is dependent on individual and function of organization
(Ellram, 1994).
TCO concept suggests that supply managers adopt a long term perspective, rather than
short term, for accurate evaluation of buying conditions. Three ideas formulate
procurement functions:
1)Cost must be examined from a long term perspective and include costs other than initial
purchase price.
2)Consider the impact of other business functions related to a specific purchase.
3)Understand measure, the impact of non value added costs like service costs, failure
costs, administrative costs, and maintenance (Ellram, 1994) associated with the purchase.
Depending on the goals of the project, a TCO analysis supports decisions on operational,
tactical, or strategic level.
Today, TCO analysis is used to support acquisition and planning decisions for a wide
range of assets that bring significant maintenance or operating costs across ownership
life. Total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis is centre stage when management is faced
with acquisition decisions for computing systems, vehicles, buildings, laboratory
equipment, medical equipment, factory machines etc.
TCO analysis for these kinds of assets is in
Egypt s Influence On The World
For the past few centuries, Egypt was ruled by foreigners that distributed wealth among
their peers and made the indigenous people their subjects. During the Nineteenth century,
Egypt was ruled by Mehmet Ali and his descendants. Mehmet Ali was a general sent by
the Ottoman empire to expel Napoleon Bonaparte from Egypt. Due to the increase
pressure on the Ottoman Empire by Russia from the North, Mehmet Ali parted ways and
planned to build his own empire with military strength. Since then, the leaders of Egypt
have sustain power on owning majority of vast land. The land is used for agriculture that
produces revenue to support the army of Mehmet Ali. This land was distributed among
the friends and families of the kings who ruled Egypt who strengthen throughout the
century. During the late nineteenth century to mid 20 century, the British extend their
rule in Egypt. This was strategic for the British because they built the Suez canal which
gave them a shorter route to India. Controlling the Suez Canal enabled them to control
world trade which made their empire even stronger. However, the British not only
controlled the Canal but exploited land. Cotton became the second most extracted
product from Egypt that went to the mills in the United Kingdom. It wasn t until the Free
officers revolted against the British to leave and the indigenous Egyptians for the first
time controlled their own country after centuries.

Primates Essay
There are many species that belong as a part of the Primates; not only in today s
world, but also in a world before Homo Sapiens became advanced enough to be able to
differentiate anthropomorphic traits in other species. To identify these species, specific
analyses of a wide variety of characteristics had to occur. One of these characteristics
being detention, or the sizes, shapes, and number of an animal s teeth (Lavenda and
Schultz 100). Looking at skulls of Primates that are no longer around, or maybe even
still existing, can sometimes be hard to distinguish; at least if you are still learning about
the shapes and sizes of each species. When unsure of which group the skull of a Primate
belongs to, looking at the number and shapes of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, when looking at their skulls, it was harder than expected. New World
monkeys have 3 premolars and 2 or 3 molars (O Neil, paragraph 4). The last molar can
sometimes be particularly small, or even nonexistent (Lavenda and Schultz, pg 103,
Figure 4.6). We noticed that the New World monkey that we examined in class had
only 2 molars, and we could clearly identify the 3 premolars. This is different from Old
World monkeys, considering they have 2 premolars and 3 molars (O Neil, paragraph
4). It was harder to differentiate the premolars from the molars of the Old World
monkey, because most all of their molars were dull. The premolars on the New World
monkey were sharper, so that made it a bit easier to distinguish premolars from molars,
and therefore easier to differentiate Old World from New World. Through our thorough
examination of the detention of the New and Old World monkey, we were able to
conclude the true identity of the skulls. Anthropoids also include apes and homos, which
differentiate even further from New and Old World monkeys in terms of detention. Apes,
australopithecines, and homos still have 2 premolars and 3 molars, however the cusps on
the molars are what is different. Homo, australopithecines, and apes have the
characteristic Y 5 pattern (Lavenda and Schultz, pg.114), which indicates 5 cusp molars.
The bilophodont pattern is a characteristic of Old World
Stereotypes Of Twyla And Roberta In Recitatif By Toni...
In Recitatif, by Toni Morrison, Twyla and Roberta are two young girls who meet at St.
Bonny s orphanage for girls. Both become instant friends because of one thing they
have in common: they [are not] real orphans with beautiful dead parents in the sky
(Morrison 239). In fact their mothers could be considered negligent, Twyla s mom
goes out dancing too often to care for her. Roberta s mother is too sick to be a good
parent. Morrison is intentionally vague about the protagonist s race, all that is revealed
is that they look like salt and pepper standing (239) next to each other. However, as they
age, Twyla and Roberta journey from innocence to experience, revealing their collective
guilt, while exposing and deconstructing the racial assumptions of the reader (Otten 2)....

Twyla s first reaction to being placed with a girl from a whole other race is being sick

Twyla s mothers racial biases of those of another race who never washed their hair and

Ten Reasons Why Nuclear Was A Mistake Summary

not overkill. Furthermore, she clearly provides evidentiary support to lend credibility to
her arguments. Reminded by her perspective that there are clearly many different reasons

evolves rhythmically as the writer appeals to the reader s emotion by clearly discussing
the dangers of nuclear energy. Likewise, the author evokes
Compare And Contrast Jamestown And From Of Plymouth...
The essay discusses from the story From the general history of Virginia , by John
Smith, a historical narrative is about the landing and the discovery of Virginia in 1607 at
a place called Jamestown, this was the first permanent English settlement in the new
world, the Americas. Also From of Plymouth plantation , by William Bradford, a
historical account, is about when 13 years later about 100 settlers went on the big fancy
ship called the Mayflower and landed in Massachusetts at a place they named Plymouth.

In comparison Virginia and Plymouth had a reason for colonizing in the Americas. It
natural that any foreigner would want more money and especially in a placed where no
one has touched it. They both had a purpose of being here in the Americas, the colonist
had good soil for the plantations and for growing new different groups in the field, and
the pilgrims had a very rocky soil and it limited their farming skills, so the colonists had
an advantage. The pilgrims were more involved in conflicts with the native Americans
that the colonists, they were both were associated with them but numerous times the
pilgrims had conflicts with them. The colonists from Virginia and Plymouth both came
for the British monarchy of England. Complemnetary to this the colonies had some
starvation rapidly going on in their civilizations and also a numerous titanic load of
people died. When they arrived in the Americas the native Americans helped them by
supplying food because they were not used to the different soils and plantations that
they had back in England. The people of Virginia wanted to be wealthy and the puritans
from Plymouth came because of religious freedom and because they had religious
persecution in their native homelands. Bradford stays as governor in the colonies until
the rest of his life and John Smith does not stay, he leaves after an accidental incident
happened and he leaves the Americas and goes back to
Cooperation And The Requirement Of Stronger Enforcement
cooperation and the requirement of stronger enforcement or more systematic dispute
settlement mechanism. My second hypothesis is that international institutions or treaties
of members of significantly asymmetric national capability will have a stronger dispute
settlement mechanism. That is to say, In other words, an institution that contains
asymmetry of power in terms of national capacity, military capacity, economic capability,
and legal resources should have stronger DSMs. In this situation, powerful states might
seek for stronger DSMs for gaining advantage within institutions. The underlying logic of
this idea, based on Allee and Elsig is that many DSMs allow for both diplomatic and legal
dispute settlement, so powerful states can benefit from having a menu of dispute
settlement options that allows them to forum shop even within treaties. (Allee 97) Also,
for weaker countries, stronger DSMs can give weaker countries the equal chance to argue
with more powerful countries under certain framework. Strong DSMs provide relatively
weaker countries such as Mexico has more capability to confront with more powerful
countries and boost their chance to win the confrontation. To prove this hypothesis, I will
find asymmetric countries in size and compare the agreements of these asymmetric
countries to some symmetric countries. The expected conclusion should be that
agreement with more heterogeneous countries would have stronger DSM. There are
many existing cases can prove this
Why Is Independence Day Important To American Culture
Independence Day is very important to the American culture. Americans celebrate
Independence Day on the fourth day of July every year. It is a day for loved ones to
come together with love and unity to celebrate our land. Independence Day is recognized
for its representation of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States
of America as an independent nation. The United States has come a long way since its
independence in 1941, evolving and inspiring many other countries to fight for their
freedom. If it weren t for our strong willed native s we may not have had the strong
foundation of freedom, equality and human rights that we have today.

Many countries became inspired by our valor, reaching for their own independence.
Among them were France, Greece, Poland, Russia and many countries from South
America. It takes a strong nation with grit and strong will to achieve such
accomplishments.
Traditional 4th of July celebrations include fireworks, parades, concerts, barbecues
and family gatherings. It is a very exciting day that draws out emotions of happiness.
Even before sunset and well into the evening the sky it lit up with colorful displays of
light. Children swing around sparklers, smiling as the trail of light follows their wand.
The smell off food cooked on the grill can be smelled in the air. Many streets will be
closed off and neighbors bring out lawn chairs and enjoy each others firework shows.
Independence Day is a time for Americans come together to recognize all that our
country has gone through for us to be living in such a wonderful nation. July 4th will be
celebrated for the rest of eternity, spreading love, happiness and unity among all
American peoples. We will forever remember and cherish this historic
Ten Characteristics That Describe Me And Who I Am
All about Me Ten characteristics that describe me and who I am are:
1. I am normally shy around people who I don t really know or someone I have never
met before. But once I am around them for a while I eventually open up, normally I am
a shy person. I don t like getting up in front of classes to give speeches.
2. Compassionate would be another characteristic because I always want to help people. I
love working at a nursing home and helping the residents and making sure they get the
help that they need.
3. Having responsibility or being responsible is another characteristic because I am
always completing things ahead of time. I always keep my check book in order and I
know if it seems like I will spend too much money I will look at and see if I really need
to spend the money or can I save it for something else, or even wait till the next pay
check. My assignments for school are normally completed before they are due, but there
is sometimes when that doesn t happen but, life gets in the way sometimes.
4. Intelligent because going through high school I always had good grades. I was on
the honor rolls and in National Honor Society. I had a 3.67 cumulative GPA. So I
would say I was intelligent, but give me a car to take apart I would not be very intelligent.
5. I would say that I am an honest person. I dislike lying very much. Telling the truth is
something that I feel is the right thing to do.
6. I am respectful because working at a nursing home
Gender Roles In Jamaica Kincaid s Short Story Girl
Gender roles have held a dominant position in our society since the beginning of
humanity. From birth children learn from their parents and society what feminine and
masculine consist of and the responsibilities that come with either one. Gender, rather
than being a biological concept is cultural one, varying from culture to culture. Both
males and females are categorized by certain mannerisms, behaviors, and interests that
society has set forth expecting them to follow such rules. Women are expected to play
the role of a housewife making sure the home is a livable space and taking of the
children while on the other hand, men are expected to be the ones who provide income
for the family. In Jamaica Kincaid s short story Girl the author talks about several
stereotypical roles that a womanhas and how these limit what women can and can t do....

writes, this is how you iron your father s khaki pants so that they don t have a crease;
this is how you grow okra far from the house...this is how you sweep a corner; this is
how you sweep a whole house; this is how you sweep a yard. This excerpt talks about
some of the roles her mother believes a woman of her culture should follow. It shows
that ironing, preparing food, and cleaning the house are traditional female roles and are
expected to be done only by the female gender. By tradition, a man is expected to be the
one who brings in the money for the household and a woman the one to take care of the
home. This stereotype sets forward the idea that for a household to function there must
be both genders present. Without a male, a household won t have an income and without
a female there won t be a progressive
Nutcracker Ballet Essay
The Nutcracker ballet is an important piece of the holiday seasons. The story and the
music that is performed never changed over the years but people love to recreate it and
add their own ideas to it. This semester I attended a performance of the Nutcracker
presented by Kingwood Dance Theatre at Atascocita High School Theatre. The music
that was used for the ballet came from Peter Tchaikovsky, from the romantic era, and the
original choreography of this performance was first created by John Adamson. The main
characters of this ballet were Clara Stahlbaum (Lauryn Stetson), Herr Drosselmeyer (Van
Christman), the Nutcracker(Kevin Reiland), Prince (Andrey Prikhodko), and the Sugar
Plum Fairy (Michelle Peterson). However, at this live performance... Show more content

Although many viewers might have been focused on the dancers on stage, the music that

many instruments that were used like trumpets, harps, and flutes during the performance.

Dr. Jekyll Essay
In the Victorian Era, one of the most important parts of one s everyday life was the need
to protect his or her reputation. While some abided by the Victorian moral code of
conduct, others kept their evil hidden in an attempt to secure their reputation. Because of
this, creating excuses for one s actions were commonplace. As seen in the last chapter of
Robert Louis Stevensons novella, the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, titled,
Jekyll s Full Statement of the Case . In this final chapter, Dr. Henry Jekyll writes a letter
to his only good friend left, Mr. John Utterson. Throughout the novella, Mr. Utterson tries

Through the sympathy that Utterson feels, the blame is effectively pushed unto Hyde,
saving Jekyll s reputation.
In order to make his point more believable, it is important that Jekyll includes a back
story explaining exactly why he created Hyde to begin with. Jekyll is an intelligent,
well respected man in his community with large sums of money, yet he turns himself
into Hyde, who is hated by nearly everyone upon first glance. While this is a confusing
state of events, Jekyll gives a historical precedent to facilitate his explanation. In the
opening of his letter, Jekyll gives an in depth description of the pressures he faced
being born to a large fortune, endowed besides with excellent parts, inclined by nature
to industry, fond of the respect of the wise and good among my fellow men, and thus,
as might have been supposed. (47). Being born into wealth and respect gave Jekyll no
chance to escape societal pressures, which were exceptionally high during the Victorian
Era. Jekyll continues by asserting that he found it hard to reconcile with [his]
imperious desire to carry [his] head high and wear a more than commonly grave
countenance before the public. Hence it came about that [he] concealed [his] pleasures.
(48). Jekyll s conflict between societies expectations and what he really wants to do
leads him to find a solution: Hyde. When Jekyll first turns into Hyde, he is in awe

Lessons Learned from Notes to a Native Son
Realizing What Society Really Is
Born in 1924, James Baldwin grew up in Harlem during harsh racism and the infamous
Jim Crow laws. In addition to being surrounded by hate crimes and riots, Baldwin had a
rough relationship with his father, who died when Baldwin was only nineteen. Twelve
years after his father?s death, Baldwin wrote an essay, entitled ?Notes of a Native Son,?
which described the events that took place around the time of his father?s death. Being
one of his trademark talents, he also inserted periods of analysis while narrating the story.

(63). He spent so much time despising his father and staying away from him that he lost
touch with the special bond between father and son. He could have absorbed so much
more knowledge and been much happier in his childhood if he truly connected with his
father, because his father had so many experiences and perspectives of his own which
could have been shared with his son. The father son relationship is a very important base
of learning, for the son, about his environment, and since young Baldwin separated
himself from his father, he lost that chance.
Although Baldwin did not really get to know his father, he began to look back on his
life and realize that his father wanted only the best for him. His father would gloat with
pride about how wonderful a preacher Baldwin was, during the short time that he was a
preacher. James Baldwin could remember his father actually was ?grinning with
pleasure? after his sermons, as opposed to the continuous look of disgust and hatred
that he was used to as he was growing up (79). Instead of working off of the happier
times that he had with his father, Baldwin ignored those times and focused on the many
times where tensions occurred. His father also tried to spend time with his kids, but his
?inability to establish contact? made his kids actually fear whenever he was home (65).
If he tried to play with them, they cried in fear; if he brought home a surprise, like a

Employment Discrimination On The Basis Of Human
Resource...
Abstract
Employment discrimination refers to employees who are discriminated by employers
because of employee s race, gender, physical and mental disability, age, and religious
beliefs. It is a serious problem since the employment relationship appeared. With the
effort of many individuals and organizations and the protection of laws and policies,
employment discrimination have been reduced to some extent, while it is still severe in
many areas and countries. This paper focuses on common discrimination in employment
on the basis of some human resource laws and tries to figure out how to alleviated
discrimination by effective human resource management. Key words: employment
discrimination, human resource laws, human resource management. ... Show more

Race/color discrimination also can involve treating someone unfavorably because the
person is married to (or associated with) a person of a certain race or color (EEOC, n.d.).
According to Vega (2015), 69% of blacks and 57% of Hispanics say past and present
discrimination is a major reason for the problems facing people of their racial or ethnic
group . And among these people, 26% of blacks and 15% of Hispanics felt that they had
been treated unfavorably due to their race at their workplace.
What s worse, race discrimination is hardly to be proved when it is actually charged by
employees. In 2014, the EEOC received 31,073 charges alleging race based
discrimination, but dismissed 71.4% of them due to a lack of reasonable cause (Vega,
2015).
Personally speaking, I believe that race discrimination can be against based on three
aspects: 1) employees. Employees should prove their case indirectly. They have to offer
proofs for discrimination which can force their employers to admit that the
discrimination was actually happen. For example, if the employee cannot get promoted
and he/she believes it was because of his/her race, the employee should prove that he/she
should have been promoted since he/she is qualified with the promotion, while another
employee who is not his/her race got promoted. 2) employers. Employers should make
sure that every employees or applicators have equal employment opportunities at
workplace. And they
Human Resource Functions Of The Human Resources
Department
Do you remember when you first decided to start a small business. The vision was clear
and the excitement drove us from imagination to plan to reality. But, before we knew it,
we went from happily wading in the waters of our areas of expertise into the deep and
sometimes turbulent waves of the unknown; Human Resources. Human Resource
functions include: Payroll, Employment Tax, Recruitment, Hiring, Employee Relations,
Termination, Regulatory Compliance and Training to name a few. Each of these
functions demanded specific skill sets and experience. They also began to expend
valuable time and resources.
The reality is that when reviewing a successful business plan there are two major areas to

It is definitely money well spent. Be wary of firms that will provide you with free
audits since you usually get what you pay for. The audit results should tell you exactly
where you stand and specifically provide a HR roadmap to get and keep you on track.
Next, ask the most important question: Do YOU have the expertise, time and interest to
actually focus on those areas and do them well? Finally, consider the risks and rewards of
alternative Human Resource solutions.
After twenty five years of providing human resource solutions to hundreds of companies
from small start ups to fortune 100 companies, my advice to many of those firms,
especially small and start up businesses is to maximize their resources by at least
partially outsourcing Human Resources. By outsourcing HR, companies get to focus on
what they do best and avoid the hassles and dangers of managing potentially high risk
areas.
Remember, as an entrepreneur you want to maximize productivity, increase revenue and
control costs. Outsourcing Human Resources and other administrative tasks allow
management and staff to focus on core business functions. Most importantly, companies
receive high end HR services for less than the cost of an administrative staff position.
MINIMIZING RISK
A critical component of any small business plan is minimizing risk. When reviewing
potential Risk Management issues consider this; Regulatory Non compliance and
Discriminatory practices make up the majority

their operations and the process of manufacturing. Lean is an approach to eliminate
waste and maximize the value for the customers. Lean has made its place in today s
market. Apart from Toyota, companies like John Deere one of the largest manufacturers
of agricultural machinery, Textron leading systems which offers products and services to
support the defense and the aerospace, Intel the world s largest chip makers, Nike one of
the leading super cool clothing company have occupied their place in the success list of
lean systems. HISTORY OF LEAN Before we understand the need lean we must
understand the need of the productions such as Craft Production and Mass Production.
The craft production was more about manufacturing the cars based on the specifications
given by the customers. The term craft production refers to a manufacturing technique
applied in the hobbies of handicraft but was also the common method of manufacture in
the pre industrialized world. The cars were modified according to the requirements of the
customers which led to the limited number of models specific for each customer and
relatively the cost was high but the customer had the satisfaction of dealing directly with
the manufacturer. Craft production comprise of skilled employees at design, machining
and fitting, usage of the general purpose machines
The Beginnings of Newnham College
When liberal reformers presented proposals for women to attend university, they were
greeted with incredulity; so radical and extreme was the concept in the 19th century.
However, pioneering liberals are nothing if not persistent and in 1871 Newnham
College was formed by philosopher Henry Sidgwick, a fellow at Trinity, along with
his future wife Eleanor Balfour, local suffragist Millicent Garrett Fawcett, and the
college s first principal Anne Clough. The Association for Promoting the Higher
Education for Women in Cambridge had done a lot of lobbying but was considered
high minded by Sidgwick for totally ignoring such practical considerations as student
accommodation. To this end he set up Newnham Hall Company Ltd with the stated
aim of building an approved boarding house. Started life as a hostel Originally
situated at 74 Regent Street, the college was a hostel for five women who wished to
attend university lectures, a privilege granted at the discretion of the lecturer.
Following an increase in demand the hostel moved to Merton House at Queen s Road,
then settled at its current home at Newnham in 1875. As with many colleges there was
no master building plan, but a haphazard development around the original E shaped,
Basil Champney s red brick designs constructed between 1873 and 1913 the first World
war bringing an end to this phase of building. Basil was at Trinity at the same time as
founder Sidgwick and when he failed to get a first, he turned his attention to
Becoming a Music Producer
Becoming a Music Producer What is one job that can combine a love for music and a
strong work ethic? Although there are numerous answers, a music producer seems to
fit the bill perfectly. The job description of a music producer is a long list of
responsibilities and obligations that prove to be well worth it when the paycheck
arrives. If one desired to pursue this career field, he or she would have to be extremely
committed and resourceful. The journey to become a successful producer can be long
and competitive, but it has been and can be done time and time again by anyone willing
to put in the effort. To achieve this goal, it is essential to understand the education level
required, the career path one must take, any special skills... Show more content on

These jobs are simply producing music for whoever will pay you for it. Most current
producers were or are musicians or vocalists themselves, and that is how they started
out. Once one begins to gain experience and acquiring connections then he or she can
commence moving into higher employment positions and working with a larger and
more experienced group of artists, therefore rendering a larger paycheck. Recording
studio engineer and recording industry executive are two goal positions that every
upcoming producer wants to reach. These jobs pay generously and can be looked at
as target points of success. This career path is not definite or guaranteed, but it is a
good idea of what one should expect if he or she is aspiring to be a producer. As you
would guess, there are many technical skills necessary to record, mix, and master
songs. Possessing these skills is a must for music producers, along with other
mechanical skills that are useful for physically producing music. Management skills
are also crucial for producers since they are responsible for scheduling and handling
money (degreedirectory.org). It is also recommended that someone who wishes to be a
music producer is a people person because producers have to be able to negotiate and
organize studio time, concerts, and collaborations with multiple artists. Acquiring these
special skills would be highly beneficial to one hoping to become a music
Corruption Due To Power In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Power is one of the most desired things in the world, and is often hard to attain, but
once it is gained it can often corrupt a person. Corruption due to power is shown in
many instances in the book, Animal Farm. In the book, there is an opening for
someone to take control of the power, and the animals that do are the pigs. The pigs
gain the power for many reasons. When power is gained there are many things people
can do with it, either bad or good. The pigs actions in animalfarm show the different
ways that power can be used by those in charge.
Knowledge is the primary form of power that the pigs have and take advantage of.
Towards the beginning of the book this is shown when the pigs create a society in
which they are superior because of their intellect: but the pigs were so clever that they
could think of a way round every difficulty. As for the horses, they knew every inch of
the field, and in fact understood the business of mowing and raking far better than Jones
and his men had ever done. The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised
the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the
leadership. (pg. 27) This shows that the power is distributed unevenly, and the pigs have
much more because they are not working and think that they are above that. the pigs not
working shows their selfish and deceptive side, and that they are trying to say they
should not have to work because of their superior knowledge. The pigs gained
No Video Games in Education in Pamela Paul s Book
Reading,...
Pamela Paul, author of Reading, Writing and Video Games , demonstrates that video
games should not be part of the education. Paul asserts there is no learning from playing
video games and the education should be the same old fashion. Paul observes the
technology in classroom could be useful for the students. However, she thinks the
children should stick on reading and writing for learning. Finally, Paul prefers to let the
children play video games in free time rather than let them play video games for
education. Although, Paul idea of using technology in classroom and marketing education
fun games are true, the idea of letting the children play games that are not educational in
their free time are inaccurate.
First, One implication of Paul treatment of saying there is a place for technology in the
classroom is that a good idea. Paul is surely right about having technology in classroom
help show the idea to the students. Also, teacher used the projector to share notes and
show videos to the students. However, using tablets in the classroom can be easy to do
quizzes and exams, and that give the teacher more time to explain more information to
the class. Also considering giving live lecture between two schools in different country
could help exchange more knowledge. Finally, schools should concerns having more
technology in classrooms to help the students learn more and fast for there own benefits.
Second, Paul assumes that many of the games marketed as educational aren t as

The Grapes of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath: Beauty in the Midst of Hopelessness
The Grapes of Wrath portrays life at its darkest. It is the story of migrant workers and
the hardships and heartbreaks that they experience as they are driven from their land the
land that they have lived on for generations so the banks can make a profit.
Sure, cried the tenant men, but it s our land. We measured it and broke it up. We were
born on it, and we got killed on it, died on it. That s what makes it ours being born on it,
working it, dying on it. That makes ownership, not a paper with numbers on it (p.45).

There is no happy ending when the book ends, Ma Joad s pride and joy, Tom, leaves
because he has killed a man and cannot stay with his family without endangering them
as well as himself. Rose of Sharon has just miscarried, and the Joads are driven by
flooding from a temporarily happy home in a boxcar town. It seems as if the book has
ended at a very uncomfortable and depressing point, but that is not the case. After
spending over 600 pages getting to know the Joads, a reader has the sense that nothing
can crush their indomitable spirit that they will always go on, no matter how bad the
circumstances are.
This is what I find fascinating about the book the strength of the people who are put
through horrendous conditions. They are driven from their homes, forced to live in a
half starved, miserable existence; yet they survive. Perhaps my favorite character in
The Grapes of Wrath is Ma Joad. She seems to me to be the strongest and most
steadfast character in the novel, and I admire her. Throughout all of the hardships that
the Joads have to endure, Ma stands tall and proud, a pillar of strength that holds her
family to gether. Her overriding concern throughout the book is that the family has to
stay to gether. She says more than once, It ain t good for folks to break up (p.225), and
that belief brings her out of the role of obedient wife to that of a woman who will even
resort to physical conflict to get her way. At one point in the
The Importance Of A Good Healthy Balanced Diet
For the occupation of nursing it is important that nurses look after themselves both
physically and mentally as the vocation is very demanding. Physically the career
involves things like heavy lifting, long periods of walking/standing, long exhausting
working hours, pushing/pulling and good eyesight and vision which is a very hard to
maintain if you are getting little to no sleep. Mentally nursing requires you to be good
and quick at making decisions, also you will be analysing the patients and looking at
their care plans so it is important that the nurses are fully focused and able to concentrate.
A good healthy balanced diet is essential and may include foods like: slow carbohydrates,
protein, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water. Diet,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many causes that can interfere with the nurse being able to exercise regularly
and eating a balanced diet. For example: nurses working late, doing double shifts,
getting no breaks due to patients needing continuous care and nurses finishing late
which results in no eating or binge eating and no exercise due to exhaustion. A lot of
nurses are said to have a disturbed eating pattern and there are many risks associated
when this occurs. When a nurse fails to adhere to a balanced diet and participate in
regular exercise they become more fatigue, they lack in energy because they feel
weak. They also have an increasingly high blood pressure and may even result to
depression or anxiety due to the amount of stress they re under. A nurse can improve
their lifestyle by sticking to a structured and well balanced diet. This includes eating
fruit, vegetables, slow release carbohydrates, protein, fat and vitamins and minerals. It
is also important that they try their best to eat something in between their long
exhausting shifts in order to give them energy and keep them focused. Also in order to
improve the lifestyle of a nurse they should try finding a hobby that interests them
whether it is art, music or yoga. Classes such as yoga can release stress and provide the
nurse with positivity energy and make them feel relaxed. Nurses are seen as role models
for other humans as they should lead by example and stay away from the dangers that
affect our bodies. This may include
The Inequality Of The Sexes During The Mid-Twentieth

women are the inferior and an imperfect man undeserving of males equal standing.
However, identifying an opposing subject is common under human nature. classifying
anything as inferior to a dominating subject is rationally viewed as the other. In

Smoking Habits Of Indonesia

Indonesia s Youth Smoking Epidemic
Introduction
Cigarette consumption is heavily prevalent in Indonesian society and culture. Indonesia
ranks as the fifth largest market for tobacco in the world and remains as the only member
of the Southeast Asian nations who has not ratified the World Health Organization
Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Unfortunately, this has led to a high
tobacco prevalence among Indonesian youth. Data from the Indonesia Global Youth
Tobacco Survey 2014 reported that one in five students were tobacco users. (World
Health Organization) Many begin smoking habits at a young age and later suffer from
tobacco addiction. The impact on youth is drastic upon their health and socioeconomic
status.
Prevalence
Indonesia is noted to be the fifth largest consumer of cigarettes in the world, consuming
21.5 billion cigarettes annually. Approximately 34.5% adults Indonesians are tobacco
users. (Aditama) Majority of smokers begin smoking daily between ages 15 19. Among
Indonesians aged 13 15 years old, 41% of boys and 3.5% girls were daily cigarette
smokers with the consumption of 10 12 cigarettes daily. (Susilowati) Gender, education
and environment are contributing factors to cigarette smoking. Smoking prevalence is
low among girls due to cultural views on female and cigarette habits. Female smokers
are viewed as socially inappropriate and are associated with negative connotations such
as impolite and ill mannered. The prevalence of
The Great Depression Of A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee
Privilege plays a major role in the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. Set in
1930 s during the great depression in the southern part of America where racism is
predominant and still is in some parts of the world, portrays the lesson of Privilege is
real from race to baking cakes. Sometimes you re born into it, and sometimes you re
born with it . The bitter reality of this lesson is that it still exists and is hard to come to
an end.
First of all according to the novel the author s point of view on privilege is that
sometimes you are born with privilege such as race tackles the law of life, if you are
born white you have more power, facilities and benefits then if you were to be born
black. For instance, as stated in the novel innocent Tom Robinson is pleaded guilty
and falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell because he s black. Atticus explains this
to Jem by saying, Tom Robinson s a colored man, Jem. No jury in this part of the world
s going to say We think you re guilty, but not very on a charge like that. It was either a
straight acquittal or nothing. (Ch. 23.pg 219) To Maycomb Tom is seen weak and
disgrace to the neighborhood. Everyone is convinced to the belief that any black African
American is responsible for a crime against a white. Even the justice system is unfair;
the all white jury favors white over black. Secondly, status depicted through the novel is
something you are born into and is also a reason behind privilege because if you are
The Things They Carried Journal Assignment
Katie Bishop Period 2 The Things They Carried Journal Assignment The things the
soldiers carried defined their character, both the physical things and the metaphorical
things. All of the men physically carried their gear, which included things like their
helmet, jungle boots, grenades, firearms, and sometimes each other. Mentally they
had to carry their brutal memories of war and the terrible things they encountered. 1st
Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letter from his girlfriend Martha, 2 photographs of
her, and a pebble good luck charm; all of these things show that he is compassionate
and cares deeply about his girlfriend. He also carried the lives of his men on his
shoulders. Dave Jensen can be characterized as a hygienic person; he carried extra
socks, a toothbrush, floss, soap, and foot powder. Along with his hygienic items, he
carried a rabbit s foot for good luck. Many other men carried things that symbolized
important things; Norman Bowker carried a tongue from an enemy and a diary, Rat
Kiley carried comic books, and Kiowa carried a pair of moccasins, an illustrated new
testament, and his grandfather s hatchet. Each man carried memories, stress, and
knowledge. Personally I carry memories, that are each important in their own ways,
and I carry a little wooden lady bug with me for good luck. In the chapter On the Rainy
RIver, Time receives his draft notice. Tim doesn t necessarily agree with the whole war
but he agrees with some parts of it, so he really has no

  • 2. Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands, By Tim Burton In my essay I am going to reference two films, Edward Scissorhands (1990) and Vincent (1982), directed by Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands, is Tim Burton s take on the Frankenstein story. We can clearly see the influences that have appealed to Tim Burton in the classic Frankenstein (1931) was not the character s monstrousness appeal but the sense of sad sorrow that audiences sympathized to in Boris Karloffs performance. Whereas in Tim Burton s vision, we see a Special character as the Frankenstein Monster, in the similar way that we call people with disabilities Special. And then we have Vincent, a short stop motion animation. The short film itself is an entertaining aspect of a suburban boy named Vincent who recites Edgar Ellen Poe and categorizes with Horror filmstar, Vincent Price. With similarities to Edward Scissorhands, the main character is a chance for Tim Burton to represent himself on the screen as a tortured boy, outsider and artist. I am going to discuss how cultural and psychological concerns are represented through characterization, art direction, cinematography, and sound. I will support my discussion by analyzing a reflection on both the similarities and differences between the two films, and whether a distinctive Burton signature (aesthetics, cultural and psychological concerns) is evident. Cultural and psychological concerns is apparent through the use of characterization. Isolation/Alienation in the suburban life plays a big role in both the films
  • 3. China s Constitution Case 1.When was the latest Constitution written? What does this say about the countries rule of law? The United Kingdom s constitution was written in 1215 and was last revised in 2013. This shows that the rule of law has remain relatively consistent besides being updated to keep up with the times. China s constitution was adopted in 1982 and revised in 2004, which shows that China s current rule of law is a little bit more modernized. 2.Are the three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial) mentioned in the document? Yes, the United Kingdommentions its parliament, three judicial systems in its different regions (Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England/Wales) and also outlines the powers of its monarch such as the ability to dismiss ... (political, economic, or /and social) In the United Kingdom s constitution, the people are given rights such as the right to life, thought, religion, and expression. The citizens of the People s Republic of China are allowed freedom of speech, press, assembly, association, precession, demonstration and religious belief. 4.Out of the two constitutions you looked at, which provided the greatest amount of protection? The United Kingdom s constitution provided more protection because in China, the central governing party is the Communist Party and although power is given to the National People s Congress to make decisions, most of those members belong to the founding Communist Party. 5.What do you think is missing from the two documents? The People s Republic of China s constitution does declare it a socialist state and gives power to the National People s Congress, but is missing the fact that all power is given to the Communist Party. The constitution of the United Kingdom is missing a single document to represent the constitution because it is made up of so many different documents. 6.What is unique about your documents? Anything written in it that we do not have in our

  • 5. The Concept Of Total Cost Of Ownership Or Tco Introduction: The concept of total cost of ownership or TCO (Cavinato 1991, 1992), life cycle costing (Jackson and Ostrom 1980), product life cycle costs (Shields and Young 1991), and total cost of (Ellram and Siferd 1993) are all related. There is no unique definition of TCO, since the meaning of TCO is dependent on individual and function of organization (Ellram, 1994). TCO concept suggests that supply managers adopt a long term perspective, rather than short term, for accurate evaluation of buying conditions. Three ideas formulate procurement functions: 1)Cost must be examined from a long term perspective and include costs other than initial purchase price. 2)Consider the impact of other business functions related to a specific purchase. 3)Understand measure, the impact of non value added costs like service costs, failure costs, administrative costs, and maintenance (Ellram, 1994) associated with the purchase. Depending on the goals of the project, a TCO analysis supports decisions on operational, tactical, or strategic level. Today, TCO analysis is used to support acquisition and planning decisions for a wide range of assets that bring significant maintenance or operating costs across ownership life. Total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis is centre stage when management is faced with acquisition decisions for computing systems, vehicles, buildings, laboratory equipment, medical equipment, factory machines etc. TCO analysis for these kinds of assets is in
  • 6. Egypt s Influence On The World For the past few centuries, Egypt was ruled by foreigners that distributed wealth among their peers and made the indigenous people their subjects. During the Nineteenth century, Egypt was ruled by Mehmet Ali and his descendants. Mehmet Ali was a general sent by the Ottoman empire to expel Napoleon Bonaparte from Egypt. Due to the increase pressure on the Ottoman Empire by Russia from the North, Mehmet Ali parted ways and planned to build his own empire with military strength. Since then, the leaders of Egypt have sustain power on owning majority of vast land. The land is used for agriculture that produces revenue to support the army of Mehmet Ali. This land was distributed among the friends and families of the kings who ruled Egypt who strengthen throughout the century. During the late nineteenth century to mid 20 century, the British extend their rule in Egypt. This was strategic for the British because they built the Suez canal which gave them a shorter route to India. Controlling the Suez Canal enabled them to control world trade which made their empire even stronger. However, the British not only controlled the Canal but exploited land. Cotton became the second most extracted product from Egypt that went to the mills in the United Kingdom. It wasn t until the Free officers revolted against the British to leave and the indigenous Egyptians for the first time controlled their own country after centuries. Purpose of the Paper After the Free officers revolution, the
  • 7. Primates Essay There are many species that belong as a part of the Primates; not only in today s world, but also in a world before Homo Sapiens became advanced enough to be able to differentiate anthropomorphic traits in other species. To identify these species, specific analyses of a wide variety of characteristics had to occur. One of these characteristics being detention, or the sizes, shapes, and number of an animal s teeth (Lavenda and Schultz 100). Looking at skulls of Primates that are no longer around, or maybe even still existing, can sometimes be hard to distinguish; at least if you are still learning about the shapes and sizes of each species. When unsure of which group the skull of a Primate belongs to, looking at the number and shapes of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when looking at their skulls, it was harder than expected. New World monkeys have 3 premolars and 2 or 3 molars (O Neil, paragraph 4). The last molar can sometimes be particularly small, or even nonexistent (Lavenda and Schultz, pg 103, Figure 4.6). We noticed that the New World monkey that we examined in class had only 2 molars, and we could clearly identify the 3 premolars. This is different from Old World monkeys, considering they have 2 premolars and 3 molars (O Neil, paragraph 4). It was harder to differentiate the premolars from the molars of the Old World monkey, because most all of their molars were dull. The premolars on the New World monkey were sharper, so that made it a bit easier to distinguish premolars from molars, and therefore easier to differentiate Old World from New World. Through our thorough examination of the detention of the New and Old World monkey, we were able to conclude the true identity of the skulls. Anthropoids also include apes and homos, which differentiate even further from New and Old World monkeys in terms of detention. Apes, australopithecines, and homos still have 2 premolars and 3 molars, however the cusps on the molars are what is different. Homo, australopithecines, and apes have the characteristic Y 5 pattern (Lavenda and Schultz, pg.114), which indicates 5 cusp molars. The bilophodont pattern is a characteristic of Old World
  • 8. Stereotypes Of Twyla And Roberta In Recitatif By Toni... In Recitatif, by Toni Morrison, Twyla and Roberta are two young girls who meet at St. Bonny s orphanage for girls. Both become instant friends because of one thing they have in common: they [are not] real orphans with beautiful dead parents in the sky (Morrison 239). In fact their mothers could be considered negligent, Twyla s mom goes out dancing too often to care for her. Roberta s mother is too sick to be a good parent. Morrison is intentionally vague about the protagonist s race, all that is revealed is that they look like salt and pepper standing (239) next to each other. However, as they age, Twyla and Roberta journey from innocence to experience, revealing their collective guilt, while exposing and deconstructing the racial assumptions of the reader (Otten 2).... Accordingly, delivering logos by citing specific examples to support each of her arguments. She delivered data, statistics and facts in such a way that was informative yet not overkill. Furthermore, she clearly provides evidentiary support to lend credibility to her arguments. • 11. Cooperation And The Requirement Of Stronger Enforcement cooperation and the requirement of stronger enforcement or more systematic dispute settlement mechanism. My second hypothesis is that international institutions or treaties of members of significantly asymmetric national capability will have a stronger dispute settlement mechanism. That is to say, In other words, an institution that contains asymmetry of power in terms of national capacity, military capacity, economic capability, and legal resources should have stronger DSMs. In this situation, powerful states might seek for stronger DSMs for gaining advantage within institutions. The underlying logic of this idea, based on Allee and Elsig is that many DSMs allow for both diplomatic and legal dispute settlement, so powerful states can benefit from having a menu of dispute settlement options that allows them to forum shop even within treaties. (Allee 97) Also, for weaker countries, stronger DSMs can give weaker countries the equal chance to argue with more powerful countries under certain framework. Strong DSMs provide relatively weaker countries such as Mexico has more capability to confront with more powerful countries and boost their chance to win the confrontation. To prove this hypothesis, I will find asymmetric countries in size and compare the agreements of these asymmetric countries to some symmetric countries. The expected conclusion should be that agreement with more heterogeneous countries would have stronger DSM. There are many existing cases can prove this

  • 13. Ten Characteristics That Describe Me And Who I Am All about Me Ten characteristics that describe me and who I am are: 1. I am normally shy around people who I don t really know or someone I have never met before. But once I am around them for a while I eventually open up, normally I am a shy person. I don t like getting up in front of classes to give speeches. 2. Compassionate would be another characteristic because I always want to help people. I love working at a nursing home and helping the residents and making sure they get the help that they need. 3. Having responsibility or being responsible is another characteristic because I am always completing things ahead of time. I always keep my check book in order and I know if it seems like I will spend too much money I will look at and see if I really need to spend the money or can I save it for something else, or even wait till the next pay check. My assignments for school are normally completed before they are due, but there is sometimes when that doesn t happen but, life gets in the way sometimes. 4. Intelligent because going through high school I always had good grades. I was on the honor rolls and in National Honor Society. I had a 3.67 cumulative GPA. So I would say I was intelligent, but give me a car to take apart I would not be very intelligent. 5. I would say that I am an honest person. I dislike lying very much. Telling the truth is something that I feel is the right thing to do. 6. I am respectful because working at a nursing home
  • 14. Gender Roles In Jamaica Kincaid s Short Story Girl Gender roles have held a dominant position in our society since the beginning of humanity. From birth children learn from their parents and society what feminine and masculine consist of and the responsibilities that come with either one. Gender, rather than being a biological concept is cultural one, varying from culture to culture. Both males and females are categorized by certain mannerisms, behaviors, and interests that society has set forth expecting them to follow such rules. Women are expected to play the role of a housewife making sure the home is a livable space and taking of the children while on the other hand, men are expected to be the ones who provide income for the family. This excerpt talks about some of the roles her mother believes a woman of her culture should follow. It shows that ironing, preparing food, and cleaning the house are traditional female roles and are expected to be done only by the female gender. By tradition, a man is expected to be the one who brings in the money for the household and a woman the one to take care of the home. This stereotype sets forward the idea that for a household to function there must be both genders present. Without a male, a household won t have an income and without a female there won t be a progressive

The story and the music that is performed never changed over the years but people love to recreate it and add their own ideas to it. This semester I attended a performance of the Nutcracker presented by Kingwood Dance Theatre at Atascocita High School Theatre. The music that was used for the ballet came from Peter Tchaikovsky, from the romantic era, and the original choreography of this performance was first created by John Adamson. The main characters of this ballet were Clara Stahlbaum (Lauryn Stetson), Herr Drosselmeyer (Van Christman), the Nutcracker(Kevin Reiland), Prince (Andrey Prikhodko), and the Sugar Plum Fairy (Michelle Peterson). The use of the props makes the storyline come alive because even though you can see the dancer s movements you really wouldn t understand what they are doing without the various props displayed. Although many viewers might have been focused on the dancers on stage, the music that was being played caught my attention more. I have heard music from the Nutcracker before during Christmas time, but never knew it was use in the Nutcracker. There was many instruments that were used like trumpets, harps, and flutes during the performance. As the music would change throughout the scenes at one point you could hear a serious tone with a slow tempo, key shifted down, which was less flute and then they would use an instrument with a low sound, during the time that the adults were

While some abided by the Victorian moral code of conduct, others kept their evil hidden in an attempt to secure their reputation. Because of this, creating excuses for one s actions were commonplace. As seen in the last chapter of Robert Louis Stevensons novella, the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, titled, Jekyll s Full Statement of the Case . In this final chapter, Dr. Henry Jekyll writes a letter to his only good friend left, Mr. John Utterson. Throughout the novella, Mr. Utterson tries to uncover the mystery of Mr. Edward Hyde. While this is a confusing state of events, Jekyll gives a historical precedent to facilitate his explanation. In the opening of his letter, Jekyll gives an in depth description of the pressures he faced being born to a large fortune, endowed besides with excellent parts, inclined by nature to industry, fond of the respect of the wise and good among my fellow men, and thus, as might have been supposed. (47). Being born into wealth and respect gave Jekyll no chance to escape societal pressures, which were exceptionally high during the Victorian Era. Jekyll continues by asserting that he found it hard to reconcile with [his] imperious desire to carry [his] head high and wear a more than commonly grave countenance before the public. Hence it came about that [he] concealed [his] pleasures. (48). Jekyll s conflict between societies expectations and what he really wants to do leads him to find a solution: Hyde. When Jekyll first turns into Hyde, he is in awe because he
  • 17. Lessons Learned from Notes to a Native Son Realizing What Society Really Is Born in 1924, James Baldwin grew up in Harlem during harsh racism and the infamous Jim Crow laws. In addition to being surrounded by hate crimes and riots, Baldwin had a rough relationship with his father, who died when Baldwin was only nineteen. Twelve years after his father?s death, Baldwin wrote an essay, entitled ?Notes of a Native Son,? which described the events that took place around the time of his father?s death. Being one of his trademark talents, he also inserted periods of analysis while narrating the story. These insights, often reflections on his life and actions, illustrate the importance of learning to truly understand the society in which one lives in order to react ... He could have absorbed so much more knowledge and been much happier in his childhood if he truly connected with his father, because his father had so many experiences and perspectives of his own which could have been shared with his son. The father son relationship is a very important base of learning, for the son, about his environment, and since young Baldwin separated himself from his father, he lost that chance. Although Baldwin did not really get to know his father, he began to look back on his life and realize that his father wanted only the best for him. His father would gloat with pride about how wonderful a preacher Baldwin was, during the short time that he was a preacher. James Baldwin could remember his father actually was ?grinning with pleasure? after his sermons, as opposed to the continuous look of disgust and hatred that he was used to as he was growing up (79). Instead of working off of the happier times that he had with his father, Baldwin ignored those times and focused on the many times where tensions occurred. His father also tried to spend time with his kids, but his ?inability to establish contact? made his kids actually fear whenever he was home (65). If he tried to play with them, they cried in fear; if he brought home a surprise, like a huge watermelon, it

Race/color discrimination also can involve treating someone unfavorably because the person is married to (or associated with) a person of a certain race or color (EEOC, n.d.). According to Vega (2015), 69% of blacks and 57% of Hispanics say past and present discrimination is a major reason for the problems facing people of their racial or ethnic group . And among these people, 26% of blacks and 15% of Hispanics felt that they had been treated unfavorably due to their race at their workplace. What s worse, race discrimination is hardly to be proved when it is actually charged by employees. In 2014, the EEOC received 31,073 charges alleging race based discrimination, but dismissed 71.4% of them due to a lack of reasonable cause (Vega, 2015). Personally speaking, I believe that race discrimination can be against based on three aspects: 1) employees. Employees should prove their case indirectly. They have to offer proofs for discrimination which can force their employers to admit that the discrimination was actually happen. For example, if the employee cannot get promoted and he/she believes it was because of his/her race, the employee should prove that he/she should have been promoted since he/she is qualified with the promotion, while another employee who is not his/her race got promoted. 2) employers. Employers should make sure that every employees or applicators have equal employment opportunities at workplace. And they

The vision was clear and the excitement drove us from imagination to plan to reality. But, before we knew it, we went from happily wading in the waters of our areas of expertise into the deep and sometimes turbulent waves of the unknown; Human Resources. Human Resource functions include: Payroll, Employment Tax, Recruitment, Hiring, Employee Relations, Termination, Regulatory Compliance and Training to name a few. Each of these functions demanded specific skill sets and experience. They also began to expend valuable time and resources. The reality is that when reviewing a successful business plan there are two major areas to consider; Revenue streams and cost centers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is definitely money well spent. Be wary of firms that will provide you with free audits since you usually get what you pay for. The audit results should tell you exactly where you stand and specifically provide a HR roadmap to get and keep you on track. Next, ask the most important question: Do YOU have the expertise, time and interest to actually focus on those areas and do them well? Finally, consider the risks and rewards of alternative Human Resource solutions. After twenty five years of providing human resource solutions to hundreds of companies from small start ups to fortune 100 companies, my advice to many of those firms, especially small and start up businesses is to maximize their resources by at least partially outsourcing Human Resources. By outsourcing HR, companies get to focus on what they do best and avoid the hassles and dangers of managing potentially high risk areas. Remember, as an entrepreneur you want to maximize productivity, increase revenue and control costs. Outsourcing Human Resources and other administrative tasks allow management and staff to focus on core business functions. Most importantly, companies receive high end HR services for less than the cost of an administrative staff position. MINIMIZING RISK A critical component of any small business plan is minimizing risk. When reviewing potential Risk Management issues consider this; Regulatory Non compliance and Discriminatory practices make up the majority

The Beginnings of Newnham College When liberal reformers presented proposals for women to attend university, they were greeted with incredulity; so radical and extreme was the concept in the 19th century. However, pioneering liberals are nothing if not persistent and in 1871 Newnham College was formed by philosopher Henry Sidgwick, a fellow at Trinity, along with his future wife Eleanor Balfour, local suffragist Millicent Garrett Fawcett, and the college s first principal Anne Clough. The Association for Promoting the Higher Education for Women in Cambridge had done a lot of lobbying but was considered high minded by Sidgwick for totally ignoring such practical considerations as student accommodation. To this end he set up Newnham Hall Company Ltd with the stated aim of building an approved boarding house. Started life as a hostel Originally situated at 74 Regent Street, the college was a hostel for five women who wished to attend university lectures, a privilege granted at the discretion of the lecturer. Following an increase in demand the hostel moved to Merton House at Queen s Road, then settled at its current home at Newnham in 1875. Corruption due to power is shown in many instances in the book, Animal Farm. In the book, there is an opening for someone to take control of the power, and the animals that do are the pigs. The pigs gain the power for many reasons. When power is gained there are many things people can do with it, either bad or good. The pigs actions in animalfarm show the different ways that power can be used by those in charge. Knowledge is the primary form of power that the pigs have and take advantage of. Towards the beginning of the book this is shown when the pigs create a society in which they are superior because of their intellect: but the pigs were so clever that they could think of a way round every difficulty. As for the horses, they knew every inch of the field, and in fact understood the business of mowing and raking far better than Jones and his men had ever done. The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership. (pg. 27) This shows that the power is distributed unevenly, and the pigs have much more because they are not working and think that they are above that. the pigs not working shows their selfish and deceptive side, and that they are trying to say they should not have to work because of their superior knowledge. The pigs gained

Rose of Sharon has just miscarried, and the Joads are driven by flooding from a temporarily happy home in a boxcar town. It seems as if the book has ended at a very uncomfortable and depressing point, but that is not the case. After spending over 600 pages getting to know the Joads, a reader has the sense that nothing can crush their indomitable spirit that they will always go on, no matter how bad the circumstances are. This is what I find fascinating about the book the strength of the people who are put through horrendous conditions. They are driven from their homes, forced to live in a half starved, miserable existence; yet they survive. Perhaps my favorite character in The Grapes of Wrath is Ma Joad. She seems to me to be the strongest and most steadfast character in the novel, and I admire her. Set in 1930 s during the great depression in the southern part of America where racism is predominant and still is in some parts of the world, portrays the lesson of Privilege is real from race to baking cakes. Sometimes you re born into it, and sometimes you re born with it . The bitter reality of this lesson is that it still exists and is hard to come to an end. First of all according to the novel the author s point of view on privilege is that sometimes you are born with privilege such as race tackles the law of life, if you are born white you have more power, facilities and benefits then if you were to be born black. For instance, as stated in the novel innocent Tom Robinson is pleaded guilty and falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell because he s black. Atticus explains this to Jem by saying, Tom Robinson s a colored man, Jem. No jury in this part of the world s going to say We think you re guilty, but not very on a charge like that. It was either a straight acquittal or nothing. (Ch. 23.pg 219) To Maycomb Tom is seen weak and disgrace to the neighborhood. Everyone is convinced to the belief that any black African American is responsible for a crime against a white. Even the justice system is unfair; the all white jury favors white over black. Secondly, status depicted through the novel is something you are born into and is also a reason behind privilege because if you are
