Marketing Pl River Island And Dorothy Perkins
As part of my secondary research, I have analysed four dresses which are either from
my client Topshop or direct competitors such as River Island and Dorothy Perkins.
This research will enable me to gain knowledge on what my TMG looks for when
buying special occasion dresses and what other companies do to make their products
stand out and be successful in such a big market. I will take this knowledge into
consideration when I design my dressand it will help me to incorporate features which
other companies use to sell their products.
RIVER ISLAND: PINK EMBELLISHED MAXI DRESS
I have decided to look at this dress from River Island as the store is a direct competitor
to Topshop. The shop is popular amongst 14 25 year old females but their prices are a
bit higher than what my client offers. This is shown throughout the company and in their
products. River Island sells a variety of special occasion dresses so the store is one of the
first places that my TMG would look at; by looking at specific aspects of their garments,
I will be able to understand what features make it a successful company and how they
make their clothing commercially viable. This dress costs ВЈ75 which is reasonable for
the high quality of the product. Most special occasion dresses are with in the ВЈ50
ВЈ100 price bracket. The price ensures that the garment is suitable for its TMG and it
reflects the high quality of the dress. The garment is made from 100% polyester which
is a good material as it resists
The Novel Dracula And The Where Are You Going,...
The novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and the poem Where Are You Going, Where Have
You Been ? by Joyce Carol Oates both possess extremely monstrous characters. We are
going to attempt to compare the main villains in both works : Count Dracula and Arnold
Friend in order to show that a human can be more of a monstrous character than a
stereotypical goul. In order to do this we will base our comparison on the description of
the physic of both protagonists as well as their limitations and strengths.
To start off, the manner Arnold Friend and Draculas facial and physiological traits are
described allow us to compare how monstrous they really are. The Count is said to be
a tall thin old man with a shaved face, except for his heavy mustache. His face is a
strong aquiline with a high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils.
Stoker notes that his ears are pale and pointed, his chin is broad and strong and his
cheeks firm and thin. There is an insistence on Dracula s mouth that is fixed and cruel
looking with sharp white teeth that protruded over his vital looking lips. His eyebrows
are massive, almost meeting over his nose and he has bushy hair that grows around his
temples and his lofty domed forehead. Another element that is focused on in Stoker s
novel is the vampire s extreme pallor. This description is not particularly frightening
since we immediately know the character is a monster : he does not look human at all
and is not hiding it. There is no place for
Don Juan Analysis
Don Juan s valet, Sgnarelle had a more than enough gossip to share with another
mistress s valet for whom his master, Don Juan, had promised to marry in the passage.
The fact of the matter is Sgnarelle holds no reservations in his hyperbolic assessment
of Don Juan s moral character and his values in promising himself to anything or
anyone if it means a return of personal pleasure, going as far to say that his master
would marry the valet, a cat, or dog if he so desired it. Moliere compares Don Juan to
the late Greek philosopher Epicurus, who believed in the material world, and that one
s primary goal in life should be fixed toward their own personal pleasure; as well as
comparing him to the last Assyrian king, Sardanapalus, who led the same lifestyle as
Epicurus, devoting himself to his own personal desires and pleasure, and was burned
alive in a pyre. Could this be Moliere s foreshadowing that Don Juan will meet the
same demise as this king, because he is living the same lifestyle? Prior to any
introductions of the lead character, Don Juan, Moliere approaches this initiation by
degenerating the honor and name of Don Juan by the man with whom he seems to trust
the most with his accords. Sgnarelle is exceptionally fond of the word marry which he
uses five times alone in this passage, as if Moliere was trying to get across that the
audience should be expecting more marriage in the text to come. Moliere s use of
tautology builds this idea and conceptualization of Don Juan
Summary Of Out Of The Dust By Karen Hesse
In the book Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse the author writes and describes the life of
a 14 year old struggling mentally because of multiple tragedies happening in her life.
This book shows the readers how Billie Jo the 14 year old overcomes all her problems.
Billie Jo is a 14 year old who lives near Joyce City, Oklahoma located in the Oklahoma
Panhandle during the Great Depression. Billie Jo s family struggled making good of
their good situations. Billie Jo s father was a farmer and with the multiple dust storms he
found it hard to grow crops and revive them. Her mother usually cleaned around the
house while pregnant. That was also difficult because of all the dust storms all over the
house, so Billie helped while her mother rested due to pregnancy. The family was quite
excited for the birth of a baby. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was able to keep the house clean and go to school and be one the smartest kids in
the 8th grade according to the standardized test that she took. Billie Jo was also able to
come home to practice and play piano. She was great piano player, but not as good as
her mother who taught Billie Jo everything she knows about playing piano. One day
Mrs. Wanderdale the music teacher at Billie Jo s school asked Billie if she would play
the piano at the Palace theater. Billie Jo begged her mother and got her way. In Out of
the Dust Karen Hesse describe the situation as She was distracted enough, I was
determined enough, this time I got what I wanted. Permission to play at the Palace.
Billie Jo was determined to play at the Palace
A Very Brief Biography of Alexander the Great
Alexander the great s death was the cause of the fall of the Macedonian empire. Four
of the reasons that prove this are, Alexander s last words were to the strongest . He
was an amazing leader. He knew about military since he was young. Alexander had a
great father to look up to. Alexander the great was born in 356 B.C. His mother was
Olympia s, and his father was Philip, although Olympia said to Alexander that his real
father was Zeus.
When Alexander was 13, the famous Greek philosopher Aristotlebecame his tutor 2
Alexander didn t get to see much of his father. He saw little of his father, who as both
king and general, was constantly away on some military campaign. 6 When Alexander
was 12, he impressed his father. At age 12 showed his equestrian skill to his father and
all who were watching when he tamed Bucephalus, unruly stallion horse, unable to be
ridden and devouring flesh of all who had tried. 5 No one noticed that the horse was
afraid of its own shadow. When the horse was led onto the exercise field, Alexander
turned it around, so it faced the sun and its shadow fell behind. Then he jumped onto
its huge back and galloped across the field. King Philip was so proud of his son he
burst into tears. (9) 1 Alexander the Great died at the age of 32 in 323 B.C. shortly
before beginning of the planning Arabian campaign, he contracted a high fever after
attending a private party at his friends Medius at Larisa. As soon as he drank from the

Section D: Analysis
This paper is answering to the question: to what extent did the left wing political
opposition lead to the Spanish Civil War, 1936 1939? There are many factors that
influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is
focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of the Spanish Army, the role of
the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies.
The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s
imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish
army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936,
breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on the working class, since they were
very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They
were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more
unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the
Spanish Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front
was selected, the middle high class already planned a military offensive against the
leftists ideologies.
The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been,
Mexico Sitting Pool
Sitting poolside at a resort in Mexico during the afternoon is wonderful experience.
The sky is clear blue. The temperature is hot and humid. A kidney shaped pool awaits
you. The pool has lounge chairs and a sitting area inside of it. Since the pool is so close
to ocean there is a salty breeze. The poolis lined with white lounge chairs. Just bring a
towel with you and start relaxing. Your only worry is when to get in the pool again or
when to flip over to evenly tan. There is no need to get up to get a drink. There waiters
and waitresses dressed in white pants and pale yellow shirt. They will bring you a drink
when you are thirsty. Since you are on vacation in a different country there is no cell

Use Of Power Issued By The Police Force
November 17th, 2014. This is day significant because it marks one of the most blatant
displays of power issued by the police force. In Ferguson, Missouri, martial law is
declared by Governor Jay Nixon and police are given almost unlimited authority. They
are equipped with military vehicles, military body armor and uniforms, they even
possess military grade weapons. These are not things that you would normally use to
help protecting the peace of a city. It was a demonstration of authority to show the
people of the city that they will not tolerate any more violence. So I am going to ask and
answer the question Is Militarization of PoliceNecessary? If you are still wondering
what the answer is; it is not necessary and I ll explain why in the following paragraphs.
As previously mentioned, the Governor of Ferguson, Missouri, Jay Nixon, signed an
executive order establishing martial law in the Ferguson. This activates the Missouri
National Guard to assist the police force in keeping order of the city. This also allows
both the police and the National Guard to do whatever is necessary to protect the city.
The National Guard are supplied with military grade equipment and that is also used by
the police. So what exactly happened that caused all of this to happen? On August 9th,
2014, Michael Brown was shot and killed by police in an unnecessary use of force. This
sparked months of riots and protests ultimately leading to the execution of martial law. I
am not here to talk about
Effects Of Sondheim s Nonconformity On Musical Theatre
Sondheim s Nonconformity and Its Effect on Musical Theatre
Musical theatre performance, which presents fictional plots and impresses audiences
with show stopping dance and song, unites dramatic works across the globe. American
musical theatre, specifically, draws inspiration from European straight plays, burlesques,
and operas, while dramatizing American topics. Nineteenth century musical comedies use
entertaining situations, rather than plot, to frame performances involving song, dance,
and humor. For example, George M. Cohan s works, although inspired by European
musical theatre, fail to please audiences as its unified music and book neglect the plot. By
the twentieth century, however, pioneers such as Oscar Hammerstein IIcreate musical ...

In contrast to early American musical comedies, whose songs separate the characters
from the action, Sondheim carefully crafts his songs, with every word serving both the
actor and the audience. When writing a musical, he thinks as the character, attempting
and usually succeeding at portraying his situation. As Arthur Laurents, one of his
collaborators, said, Steve...is the only lyricist who almost always writes songs for the
characters they are written for (Michener 384). Since he writes the songs for the
characters, each word has a specific purpose, but he still puts a twist on established
devices of musical theatre. Musical theatre often contains rhyme, but Sondheim s
rhymes provide emphasis because all rhymes draw attention to the rhymed word
(Sondheim, Finishing the Hat, xxvii). Since the songs words signify a profound
amount of meaning, Sondheim makes sure that the lyrics and rhythms work for the
character and the actor. Getting Married Today in Company demonstrates this
particularity. On Amy s wedding day, she experiences doubt in marrying Paul,
expressed through a fast paced frenzy of thoughts and emotions. So that this whirl of
emotions does not become too chaotic, Sondheim s word choice allows the actress
playing Amy to capitalize on every word, as he calculates the song to alternate vowel
and consonant sounds in such a way as to make them easy for the tongue, teeth, and
breath to articulate (184). Thus, every word in Getting Married Today has a specific
purpose, unlike the lyrics of other musicals without such a careful word choice. While
the audience needs to use the lyrics to understand the plot, Sondheim s intelligence and
wit leaves the audience marveling at what clever things he does with words (Banfield
113). In his songs, Sondheim wants to show off his literary skills while staying true to the

Women in the Paleolithic Period The Paleolithic era in our worlds history was a difficult
time for everyone, but for women, it became more and more difficult. Hunting and
gathering society s were most prevalent, although, later on the early formation of cities
and larger community s began to emerge. Ones job in the Paleolithic era would most
likely consist of gathering food and protecting the small group he or she belonged to.
Just surviving would have been a full time job in many of the harsh climates people
inhabited. In the hunting and gathering community s, social status was equal or close to
equal for men and women. The men would be responsible for hunting and collecting
meat for their family. Men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With groups of people growing so large it became more dangerous due to other groups
encroaching into their land and vice versa. People formed cities for security on the
principle of safety in numbers. Living in a city would extremely limit the amount of
natural resources available meaning agriculture was the only solution. Agriculture
continued to advance with the invention of a plow. Plow work is very physically
demanding, men began to take over agriculture. Now that
Masculinity Theory
Google defines masculinity as a possession of qualities traditionally associated with men,
using, handsome, muscled, and driven, he s a prime example of masculinity as their
example. Although this definition of masculinity is common, it is undeveloped and
exclusive to other forms of masculinity. Sociologists such as Raewyn Connell, Eric
Anderson and Michael Kimmel have formed their own theories and definitions of
masculinity. In this course, we have read an excerpt from Eric Anderson s, Inclusive
Masculinities, Raewyn Connell s, Masculinities and Gender; In World Perspectives, and
Michael Kimmel s book, Manhood in America; A Cultural History to answer questions

In his book, Inclusive Masculinities; The Changing Nature of Masculinities, Anderson
analyzes homophobia, the development of homohysteria ( homosexually panicked
culture in which suspicion [of homosexuality] permeates ) and the change in the
dynamics of male relationships. Anderson also analyzes Connell s HMT and suggest that
while her theory may have been a useful way of understanding masculinities in the late
1900 s, masculinity is evolving. Anderson explains how the HMT suggests that
masculinity ascribed, constant and one has little to no chances of climbing the gender
hierarchy. After doing research on athletes and college students and realizing that HMT
could not account for the relationship dynamics of these young men, Anderson developed
an opposing theory the inclusion theory. The inclusion theory suggests that male
relationships are evolving and that social stigmas towards homosexuality are decreasing
as well as misogynistic views/opinions over time. Anderson believes that, although some
may continue to hold conservative beliefs about masculinity, there is a movement among
younger generations that is more accepting and encouraging of fluid presentations of
masculinity.
Michael Kimmel s, Manhood in America; A Cultural History, traces masculinity over
time, starting in colonial times to present day. Kimmel conducted his research by
examining American cultural history through media representations
Biologically Diverse Coral Reef
In the article Continental drift created biologically diverse coral reefs it explains how
researchers study the evolution of many marine species and how they were affected by
plate tectonics. The scientists used 100 million years of Earth s history and the history
of continental drifts to create a computer model of patterns of new marine species. From
this computer model scientists were able to show that the drift of the continental plates
was the likely driving force behind the emergence of new species (ETH Zurich).
Researchers concluded that continental drift increased the biodiversity of marine species.
If a reef is divided into two separate reefs due to plate tectonics, for example, the two
populations in each patch would continue

Environmental Economic Impact of Pollution in the...
The Chesapeake Bay is the nation s largest estuary with six major tributaries, the James,
the Potomac, the Susquehanna, the Patuxent, the York, and the Rappahannock Rivers,
feeding into the bay from various locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the
District of Columbia (Chemical Contaminants in the Chesapeake BayWorkshop
Discussion 1). These areas depend on the Bay as both an environmentaland an economic
resource. Throughout the last 15 years the Chesapeake Bay has suffered from elevated
levels of pollution. Nitrogen and phosphorous from wastewater treatment plants,
farmland, air pollution, and development all lead to reduced water clarity and lowered
oxygen levels, which harm fish, crabs, oysters and... Show more content on

The goal of this program was to reduce the level of nitrogen and phosphorous flowing
to the Bay by 40% by the year 2000, from their 1985 levels (Blankenship 2). The first
step in this program was to reduce the amount of nutrient pollution from point sources
(end of the pipe) such as wastewater treatment facilities that feed into the many
tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay (The Chesapeake Bay Watershed 1). However, the
results of these cleanup efforts were not enough to reach the goal of the program.
Therefore, the areas involved now had to target the non point sources of nitrogen and
phosphorous. The non point sources are storm water run off from agricultural and
developed sites, air pollution, and the development of sensitive forests that act as buffers
for tributaries and the Bay (1). The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act of 1989 took aim
at these sources in Tidewater Virginiaby requiring resource management practices in the
use and development of environmentally sensitive land (1). The Chesapeake Bay
Preservation Area Ordinance of 1991 also took aim at these non point sources by
designating environmentally sensitive areas in Virginia Beach as Resource Protection
Areas and Resource Management Areas which are intended to protect the integrity of the
lands that effect the Chesapeake Bay (2). The States involved also

The English Peasant Uprising Essay
The English Peasant Uprising was motivated by a growing contempt with the
government and clergy following the Black Death which was finally set off by a
series of immediate social and economic causes. A shortage of workers followed the
Black Death with an estimated forty five per cent of the population dying in England .
As entire towns were either deserted or left devoid of life, rural peasants increased their
mobility into major cities. This shortage of rural workers led to famine as fields were left
to go fallow, placing further economic pressure on the peasant classes who survived as
the price of food increased. Due to the lack of labourers, the labourers who survived
demanded greater wages as they now had increased leverage over... Show more content

Schools of thought such as held by the Lollards, followers of theologian and reformer
John Wycliffe whom acted as lay preachers, were held responsible for the Uprising as
they were critical of the church as an institution, particularly the concept of the Church
owning land. As these Lollards travelled and preached their opposition to the Church
as temporal power, they resonated with the peasants and became increasingly popular
as unlike many of the priests and monks recruited after the Black Death, they were
observed to be genuinely pious . The already solid dissatisfaction with the clergy only
intensified with the imprisonment of a highly popular Lollard, John Ball. John Ball
was imprisoned at Maidstone in Kent when he came into conflict with Simon of
Sudbury Archbishop of Canterbury for lay preaching. The Hundred Years war with
France is still ongoing at this point which was also adding further pressure to the lower
classes due to the taxes needed to fund it. The war was very expensive, which meant
more taxes had to be put in place to compensate for the lack of people paying taxes on
account of forty five per cent of tax payers being dead. Not only were wages fixed by
parliament, but parliament demanded more money from a populace already financially
struggling under fixed wages and inflated food prices. The stresses of the Hundred Years
War only intensified with the death of Edward III in 1377

Queen Elizabeth And Mary Relationship
Queen Mary I, the monarch of England and Ireland since 1553, dies and is succeeded by
her 25 year old half sister, Elizabeth.
The two half sisters, both daughters of King Henry VIII, had a stormy relationship
during Mary s five year reign. Mary, who was brought up as a Catholic, enacted pro
Catholic legislation and made efforts to restore the pope to supremacy in England. A
Protestant rebellion ensued, and Queen Mary imprisoned Elizabeth, a Protestant, in the
Tower of London on suspicion of complicity. After Mary s death, Elizabeth survived
several Catholic plots against her; though her ascension was greeted with approval by
most of England s lords, who were largely Protestant and hoped for greater religious
tolerance under a Protestant queen.

Pardoners in the Middle Ages Essay
Though told by a self confessed liar and hypocrite, the tale has a powerful moral and
imaginative effect. How far do you agree with this view of the text?
Chaucer s pardoner is an enigmatic, paradoxical figure, both intriguing yet repulsive.
From the very beginning of his Prologue the
Pardoner makes no attempts to hide his ypocrise, instead taking a perverse pleasure in
the extent of his corruption. As seen in the portrait of the Monk in The General Prologue,
Chaucer allows the
Pardoner to condemn himself. He purposely reveals his methods of extracting money

Of course, we have to bear in mind that while the pilgrims hear the
Pardoner s rhetorical skills we hear Chaucer s skill as a poet. In his digression the
Pardoner melodramatically denounces a number of sins, making extensive use of
rhetorical devices such as hyperbole, anaphora and apostrophe:
O glotonye, ful of cursednesse!
O cause first of oure confusioun!
O original of oure dampnacioun.
He seems to use these to involve and unnerve his audience and effectively keep all
eyes on him. He alludes to both the Bible and classical mythology, citing Biblical
prophets, historical figures and philosophers. In contrast the tale itself is relatively
plainly told and we can safely assume that the Pardoner is well practiced in the art of
telling this specific tale and even inserts some of his sermon into it. His sermon is based
on several medieval conventions, such as that of the mysterious old man, whom Dr.
McIntyre identifies as a
representation of the immanence and inescapability of death, something which would
have struck a chord with a medieval audience suffering from the onslaught of the Black
Death.
The tale is an example of a very well defined genre with its own conventions and
devices; nevertheless the pardoner makes it his own through his own use of rhetorical
flourishes and poetic detail. He

there has been a growing interest in the application of biomedical informatics in many
aspects of the healthcare system. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger

  • 2. Marketing Pl River Island And Dorothy Perkins As part of my secondary research, I have analysed four dresses which are either from my client Topshop or direct competitors such as River Island and Dorothy Perkins. This research will enable me to gain knowledge on what my TMG looks for when buying special occasion dresses and what other companies do to make their products stand out and be successful in such a big market. I will take this knowledge into consideration when I design my dressand it will help me to incorporate features which other companies use to sell their products. RIVER ISLAND: PINK EMBELLISHED MAXI DRESS I have decided to look at this dress from River Island as the store is a direct competitor to Topshop. The shop is popular amongst 14 25 year old females but their prices are a bit higher than what my client offers. This is shown throughout the company and in their products. River Island sells a variety of special occasion dresses so the store is one of the first places that my TMG would look at; by looking at specific aspects of their garments, I will be able to understand what features make it a successful company and how they make their clothing commercially viable. This dress costs ВЈ75 which is reasonable for the high quality of the product. Most special occasion dresses are with in the ВЈ50 ВЈ100 price bracket. The price ensures that the garment is suitable for its TMG and it reflects the high quality of the dress. The garment is made from 100% polyester which is a good material as it resists
  • 3. The Novel Dracula And The Where Are You Going,... The novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and the poem Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been ? by Joyce Carol Oates both possess extremely monstrous characters. We are going to attempt to compare the main villains in both works : Count Dracula and Arnold Friend in order to show that a human can be more of a monstrous character than a stereotypical goul. In order to do this we will base our comparison on the description of the physic of both protagonists as well as their limitations and strengths. To start off, the manner Arnold Friend and Draculas facial and physiological traits are described allow us to compare how monstrous they really are. The Count is said to be a tall thin old man with a shaved face, except for his heavy mustache. His face is a strong aquiline with a high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils. Stoker notes that his ears are pale and pointed, his chin is broad and strong and his cheeks firm and thin. There is an insistence on Dracula s mouth that is fixed and cruel looking with sharp white teeth that protruded over his vital looking lips. His eyebrows are massive, almost meeting over his nose and he has bushy hair that grows around his temples and his lofty domed forehead. Another element that is focused on in Stoker s novel is the vampire s extreme pallor. This description is not particularly frightening since we immediately know the character is a monster : he does not look human at all and is not hiding it. There is no place for
  • 4. Don Juan Analysis Don Juan s valet, Sgnarelle had a more than enough gossip to share with another mistress s valet for whom his master, Don Juan, had promised to marry in the passage. The fact of the matter is Sgnarelle holds no reservations in his hyperbolic assessment of Don Juan s moral character and his values in promising himself to anything or anyone if it means a return of personal pleasure, going as far to say that his master would marry the valet, a cat, or dog if he so desired it. Moliere compares Don Juan to the late Greek philosopher Epicurus, who believed in the material world, and that one s primary goal in life should be fixed toward their own personal pleasure; as well as comparing him to the last Assyrian king, Sardanapalus, who led the same lifestyle as Epicurus, devoting himself to his own personal desires and pleasure, and was burned alive in a pyre. Could this be Moliere s foreshadowing that Don Juan will meet the same demise as this king, because he is living the same lifestyle? Prior to any introductions of the lead character, Don Juan, Moliere approaches this initiation by degenerating the honor and name of Don Juan by the man with whom he seems to trust the most with his accords. Sgnarelle is exceptionally fond of the word marry which he uses five times alone in this passage, as if Moliere was trying to get across that the audience should be expecting more marriage in the text to come. Moliere s use of tautology builds this idea and conceptualization of Don Juan
  • 5. That was also difficult because of all the dust storms all over the house, so Billie helped while her mother rested due to pregnancy. The family was quite excited for the birth of a baby. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was able to keep the house clean and go to school and be one the smartest kids in the 8th grade according to the standardized test that she took. There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies. The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain s imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle high class, and therefore even more unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle high class already planned a military offensive against the leftists ideologies. The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been,

In Ferguson, Missouri, martial law is declared by Governor Jay Nixon and police are given almost unlimited authority. They are equipped with military vehicles, military body armor and uniforms, they even possess military grade weapons. These are not things that you would normally use to help protecting the peace of a city. It was a demonstration of authority to show the people of the city that they will not tolerate any more violence. So I am going to ask and answer the question Is Militarization of PoliceNecessary? If you are still wondering what the answer is; it is not necessary and I ll explain why in the following paragraphs. As previously mentioned, the Governor of Ferguson, Missouri, Jay Nixon, signed an executive order establishing martial law in the Ferguson. This activates the Missouri National Guard to assist the police force in keeping order of the city. This also allows both the police and the National Guard to do whatever is necessary to protect the city. The National Guard are supplied with military grade equipment and that is also used by the police. So what exactly happened that caused all of this to happen? On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown was shot and killed by police in an unnecessary use of force. This sparked months of riots and protests ultimately leading to the execution of martial law. Effects Of Sondheim s Nonconformity On Musical Theatre Sondheim s Nonconformity and Its Effect on Musical Theatre Musical theatre performance, which presents fictional plots and impresses audiences with show stopping dance and song, unites dramatic works across the globe. American musical theatre, specifically, draws inspiration from European straight plays, burlesques, and operas, while dramatizing American topics. Nineteenth century musical comedies use entertaining situations, rather than plot, to frame performances involving song, dance, and humor. For example, George M. Cohan s works, although inspired by European musical theatre, fail to please audiences as its unified music and book neglect the plot. By the twentieth century, however, pioneers such as Oscar Hammerstein IIcreate musical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to early American musical comedies, whose songs separate the characters from the action, Sondheim carefully crafts his songs, with every word serving both the actor and the audience. When writing a musical, he thinks as the character, attempting and usually succeeding at portraying his situation. As Arthur Laurents, one of his collaborators, said, Steve...is the only lyricist who almost always writes songs for the characters they are written for (Michener 384). Since he writes the songs for the characters, each word has a specific purpose, but he still puts a twist on established devices of musical theatre. Musical theatre often contains rhyme, but Sondheim s rhymes provide emphasis because all rhymes draw attention to the rhymed word (Sondheim, Finishing the Hat, xxvii). Since the songs words signify a profound amount of meaning, Sondheim makes sure that the lyrics and rhythms work for the character and the actor. Getting Married Today in Company demonstrates this particularity. On Amy s wedding day, she experiences doubt in marrying Paul, expressed through a fast paced frenzy of thoughts and emotions. So that this whirl of emotions does not become too chaotic, Sondheim s word choice allows the actress playing Amy to capitalize on every word, as he calculates the song to alternate vowel and consonant sounds in such a way as to make them easy for the tongue, teeth, and breath to articulate (184). Thus, every word in Getting Married Today has a specific purpose, unlike the lyrics of other musicals without such a careful word choice. While the audience needs to use the lyrics to understand the plot, Sondheim s intelligence and wit leaves the audience marveling at what clever things he does with words (Banfield 113). In his songs, Sondheim wants to show off his literary skills while staying true to the

Anderson explains how the HMT suggests that masculinity ascribed, constant and one has little to no chances of climbing the gender hierarchy. After doing research on athletes and college students and realizing that HMT could not account for the relationship dynamics of these young men, Anderson developed an opposing theory the inclusion theory. The inclusion theory suggests that male relationships are evolving and that social stigmas towards homosexuality are decreasing as well as misogynistic views/opinions over time. Anderson believes that, although some may continue to hold conservative beliefs about masculinity, there is a movement among younger generations that is more accepting and encouraging of fluid presentations of masculinity. The goal of this program was to reduce the level of nitrogen and phosphorous flowing to the Bay by 40% by the year 2000, from their 1985 levels (Blankenship 2). The first step in this program was to reduce the amount of nutrient pollution from point sources (end of the pipe) such as wastewater treatment facilities that feed into the many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay (The Chesapeake Bay Watershed 1). However, the results of these cleanup efforts were not enough to reach the goal of the program. Therefore, the areas involved now had to target the non point sources of nitrogen and phosphorous. The non point sources are storm water run off from agricultural and developed sites, air pollution, and the development of sensitive forests that act as buffers for tributaries and the Bay (1). The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act of 1989 took aim at these sources in Tidewater Virginiaby requiring resource management practices in the use and development of environmentally sensitive land (1). As entire towns were either deserted or left devoid of life, rural peasants increased their mobility into major cities. Schools of thought such as held by the Lollards, followers of theologian and reformer John Wycliffe whom acted as lay preachers, were held responsible for the Uprising as they were critical of the church as an institution, particularly the concept of the Church owning land. As these Lollards travelled and preached their opposition to the Church as temporal power, they resonated with the peasants and became increasingly popular as unlike many of the priests and monks recruited after the Black Death, they were observed to be genuinely pious . The already solid dissatisfaction with the clergy only intensified with the imprisonment of a highly popular Lollard, John Ball. John Ball was imprisoned at Maidstone in Kent when he came into conflict with Simon of Sudbury Archbishop of Canterbury for lay preaching. The Hundred Years war with France is still ongoing at this point which was also adding further pressure to the lower classes due to the taxes needed to fund it. The war was very expensive, which meant more taxes had to be put in place to compensate for the lack of people paying taxes on account of forty five per cent of tax payers being dead. Not only were wages fixed by parliament, but parliament demanded more money from a populace already financially struggling under fixed wages and inflated food prices. O cause first of oure confusioun! O original of oure dampnacioun. He seems to use these to involve and unnerve his audience and effectively keep all eyes on him. He alludes to both the Bible and classical mythology, citing Biblical prophets, historical figures and philosophers. In contrast the tale itself is relatively plainly told and we can safely assume that the Pardoner is well practiced in the art of telling this specific tale and even inserts some of his sermon into it. His sermon is based on several medieval conventions, such as that of the mysterious old man, whom Dr. McIntyre identifies as a representation of the immanence and inescapability of death, something which would have struck a chord with a medieval audience suffering from the onslaught of the Black Death. The tale is an example of a very well defined genre with its own conventions and devices; nevertheless the pardoner makes it his own through his own use of rhetorical flourishes and poetic detail. He
