Trigonella foenum-graecum, commonly known as fenugreek, is an annual plant in the legume family. It has long, trifoliate leaves and white flowers. The dried seeds are yellow in color and contain steroidal sapogenins and various glycosides. Fenugreek has a variety of traditional medicinal uses including as an analgesic, to relieve constipation and stimulate breast milk production. Modern research has found it to have antioxidant, antitumor and blood sugar lowering effects. However, in large amounts it can cause side effects like diarrhea.
