PHARMACODYNAMICS
MOA of Cefpodoxime :
 Cefpodoxime
Act as transpeptidase
enzyme
Inhibit transpeptidation
reaction
Block peptidoglycine
synthesis
Increase the permeability of
cell membrane
Cell explodes and lysed
Death of microorganism.

PHARMACODYNAMICS Conti…
Peptidoglycan (PG) is composed of strands of sugar
molecules (green/blue strips) and very small
proteins (colored circles).
An enzyme (gray) is needed to crosslink the PG
subunits, which makes the cell wall strong.
Cephalosporins (orange P) bind to this enzyme and
deactivate it.

DRUG INTERACTION
S.N Interactant Interaction Effect
1 Antacids or H2 blockers Reduced cefpodoxime proxetil peak blood levels and
the extent of absorption.
2 Probenecid Effectively decrease excreation and increases systemic
level of the drug.
3 Potassium clavulanate Showed higher clinical cure in symptoms of lower RTI
4 Propantheline Slightly delay in drug absorption
5 Anisotropine
methylbromide
Slightly increase in extent of absorption

CONCLUSION
Cepodem is one of the best brand from
Cefpodoxime proxetil product.
It seems to appear there is a slight room for
improvement in areas like advertising and
marketing, which I believe if improved, will
increase demand of the product in future.
