3. Pre-Production: Visual Planning
• This section is concerned with the visual planning of your music video
• You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your video,
establish the relationship between the visuals and the track itself and
create a structure for you to follow when filming
• It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the video before you make it; it
will make filming and production a more streamlined process
• The following tasks are part of your visual planning
• Pre-visualisation and concept boards
• Storyboarding
• Shot list

4. Pre-visualisation/Concept Boards
• Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
• Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
• Presents key moments in your video
• A means to sketch/plan ideas
• Information on colour/lighting
• Defining the “mise-en-scene”
• Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to

6. • In theses photos I’ve picked are what I’m wanting to ad to my video which are a range of different
images that doesn't really go together however like I’ve explained with the other PowerPoints I
mentioned I don’t want anything really relate to the lyrics as most songs don’t really relate to it so I
thought that’s what id go for. So for example one of the images are of the sky there’s day time and
night time I’m wanting my clips to be in the day and night to mix it up however I was intending to do
it all in the evening leading up to the night when its dark but I cant get everything done so I’m having
to do it at college so most of it is now in college which is fine which means I can come up with
different/new ideas for example I could be filming someone with the camera and because I want
some good quality videos and then iPhone quality videos so I could video the person holding their
pone and see cut to what they see in their screens. Will also do that when I’m having to do the clips
at home I want to use my iPhone to make it different. The other images for example are puddles and
being in the garden so with the puddle if it rains i would like to see if I can get a reflection of what
you can see in the puddle as I think that will look interesting when it comes to putting all the clips
together. Then with the garden because one of the lyrics mentions a garden so I could film some
clips doing things or in the garden so it kind of links a little with the song. Another thing that involves
being outside is sparklers if I can get some I would like to film a bit where I’m outside waving them
around or just holding it, I will need help with someone either holding the camera or holding the
sparklers but I can ask a family member so there will be no problem and if it comes to it I an lace my
phone on a chair and video it that way. The last image that I will talk about is the neon lights in the
room, I don’t personally have an actual neon light however we do have a fly killer light that was left
in the house when we moved in and I noticed that it made a really cool look to the room so I’m
wanting to film a clip with that on to add different effects to the video rather it just having the day
light and the dark.

with it so you just see the light of the
sparklers moving around. Can also move
them around which will make it look
cool when videoing it.
Sparklers will be needed and the

else to hold the sparklers. As I will
be doing this at home I could ask
someone at home to help me but if
there is no one I I can set my
phone up somewhere in my
garden and film it that way.

out the door. Ill see what they all look

instruments so I could just make
one of the people in my video o
something to go with the song, and
people will actually know that it’s
the end.

11. Storyboarding

13. Shot List
• Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what you
need to shoot for your video – it is both a creative tool for planning
and practical tool for filming
• It should work in partnership with your storyboard
• It will be your working document when you film
• It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot description,
framing and action you will see
• It should also have information on performers in the scene and other
props, etc
• Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.

table is suggested
• Amy who is in my class helped me with my music video and helped if I couldn't really think
of an idea to do next in my video so she suggested ideas that might make it go better as
she's in the video so she was doing all the modeling in the video, I said she can do what's
comfortable for her which I felt went well when it filmed so it didn’t look like she didn’t
want to be there but because she did things that she felt comfortable doing it doesn't look
awkward when watching.
• I filmed it in a studio so it was behind a white background with Amy and Josh in front of it.
Then filmed the other bit at home in my kitchen with the blue light to reflect the blue
around the room. The equipment I used in the studio was a camera with a tripod, also had
lights around the model to have the good lighting in here so you can see clearly and made
sure the camera only had the white background and the model in it not the lights and
where the white background stopped to not have that in there as you would se the rest of
the studio in it. Then the parts I filmed at home I filmed with my iPhone and because it was
dark I didn’t mind the lighting as I was using the blue light so I wanted that to glow out
onto the walls but I didn really work so I had to go closer to the light and get clips of that.
• My plan b was to film at college, as my plan A was to film in my house all the clips but
because of where I live and my friend lives they aren't close so couldn't arrange time for
each other as I was either working or she was or had other plans and couldn't drop out of
them so my plan b was to do it at college and film other clips with my iPhone in my house.
