2. • Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
• You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting. Analyse what you have gathered.
• Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen style/genre, think about the best
methods to appeal to your audience.
• Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to realise your project and what
you will need to create/collect.
• Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
• Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
• Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
• Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
4. • Content:
The content in my video will be a mix of filler footage relating to the
topic or to add to the cinematics and the interview footage I will
acquire. It will be a contrast between colors and black or light and dark
to represent that breakdance can save people from getting involved
with bad things and keep them out of trouble and be their light. So, a
lot of the footage will be in black and white but also some will be
bright and colorful with some even being a bit of both which will
require me to edit them on photoshop or aftereffects.
I want to have the audio of the interviews leaking into the filler footage so its not always focused on
the person being interviewed. I also want there to be short spaces where its just cinematics with
music over the top. Ill be recording a session of dancing to get footage to fill the space in whilst also
adding to the visual element, I feel this will help give the interview more impact as it will keep the
viewer more engaged. I also want people that maybe don’t know a lot about breakdancing to see
some for themselves whilst also seeing a natural training environment and can see the good parts
and even the fails that you face when training.
5. Planning:
Interview questions
Why did u start breakdancing?
What influence and impact did it have on your life?
Do you think you would be the same person now if you had never started dancing?
What's your first memory of dancing?
What's your favourite moment in dancing?
I only need these questions as the documentary is only going to be around 3 minutes long
and I feel these questions will be questions that will provide long and in depth answers
which I can then cut up and use the parts I feel are the best and feel give the information I
needs and also the storytelling I need.
6. Shot types
• For the shots there wont be much movement, this is due to the fact that in the interview I didn’t
want there to be any as I feel keeping it in one location and one angle and making it more
interesting in post will help ensure that it looks professional as with the equipment and
experience I have if I try to overcomplicate it, it could jeopardise the whole project and make it
not look the way I want it to. Also with the background and the studio being how it is, making
sure the camera is in the same location will help make sure the background stays in shot and I
don’t get anything in the frame that I don’t want to be there.
• When it comes to the dance footage I will have to also use a tripod and only one angle as luckily I
found out early that the person I originally wanted to dance in the video is unable to do so
meaning I will have to myself, with this it means I therefore wont be able to film and get the
camera movements I originally intended on getting. This will also mean that I will have to make it
visually engaging in the editing process using cuts, transitions and color affects with the black and
white. I will move the camera where possible with the tripod to help create some difference but I
wont overdo it as I feel this is where it might go down in quality if I try something that I don’t
think will help the overall outcome. This might be seen as a setback but honestly I really like the
idea of just being able to watch the training session with some nice editing and be able to eally
see everything than it being over complicated and too hard to focus on, as it could have been if I
would have been able to use camera movements.
7. Location 1
• Dance studio- this location is so crucial to this project, as im only using two
locations is key that they are both perfect. The reason ive chosen the dance
studio is because not only is it the perfect place for us to dance its also perfect for
the type of footage I want as I want the training footage to be as natural as
possible, I want this as for the documentary I want it all to feel as authentic and
real as possible as that’s my main reason for doing this as its about sharing my
experiences of one of my greatest passions with everyone and although it has to
be planned out I still want that authenticity which I feel this location provides as
we would always try find dance studios to train in as that was a luxury for us. I will
set the camera up in one place and leave it running, the reason for this is I will be
dancing in the video, as the person I originally wanted will be unable on the day I
will be filming. This being said im glad I found out earlier as it meant I was able to
adapt, it does mean there will be less opportunity for cool camera movement
that goes with the dancer but now instead I will have to make project visually
good in post production. Its also a great location as ist very private and means ill
be able to get all the footage I need without any interruption.
8. Location 2
• Studio- this location was a no brainer, as I've done a documentary in the past the
one thing that i will take from my first experience is the interview section as I feel
even though it was my first time I did a great job and a big part of this was down
to the studio as it gave me all the resources and freedom I needed to create a
professional looking interview, its also very private and means I wont be
disturbed and also wont eb any noise interference. The location is also perfect as
its in my college and is very close to my classroom and is available a lot as long as
I book it, this means I have a lot of freedom when it comes to when I want to film
but also if I need to re film anything due to any problems that may occur. I will
use a white background but unlike the first documentary I will put the camera at
more of an angle as from some of the interviews I looked at this was the angle I
feel looked the best and what I also feel fits my documentary the most with
breakdancing having a lot to do with making shapes with your body and also
using angles.
9. Production Schedule:
Week: What ill be working on:
Week 1 This week I will be filming the dancing parts of the film
whilst also using test footage to work on what black and
white I want to use and also look at some cool effects in the
software. I will be filming the dancing in the dance studio on
a lunchtime when possible.
Week 2 This week I will go over the dance footage and make sure I
have enough of what I need and will then go onto setting up
and filming the interview with Lloyd in the studio.
Week 3 This week will be my first week of editing where I will cut
the footage down to size and piece it together whilst also
making sure the colour matches up along with the sound as
I will be filming the audio of the interview on a audio
recorder so I will have to match it up with the interview
itself
Week 4 This week I will be finishing off any editing like transitions or
effects and making surer the title screens and anything else
is completed whilst also making sure its on my website and
uploaded to youtube.
10. Equipment list Why I will need it
Camera To film all the footage including all the
dance footage along with the whole
interview
tripod I will need the tripod as I will need it to
film the dance footage as ill be dancing
whilst also needing it for the interview as I
will have to ask the questions and it will
also help it look professional.
Audio recorder
microphone
11. Health and safety issue How to avoid
Injury when dancing As ive got a lot of experience I will know on
the day due to the floor and how im feeling
what ill be capable of and I will know my
limits and not push to much and will also
make sure to stretch before hand.
covid As covid is still an issue I will continue to
wear a mask when necessary and will also
test regularly to keep myself and others safe.
Headaches due to extended periods on
computer
When editing I will make sure to take breaks
and drink plenty of water as I know I'm very
prone to and suffer with headaches so I will
take intervals and make sure I don’t spend to
long starring at the screen
