This document provides guidance and templates for a music video pre-production assessment. 5. BORED- DEFTONES
In the music
video for 'bored'
there are a lot
of random clips
that are all put
together to
match with the
beat. The videos
brightness/
exposure has
also been
messed with to
make the video
For songs like this I would add a
few animated clips because I
think that it would match. This
can be seen in some of Korn's
music videos, and I think that it
blends in nicely. Another feature
I think that could be added is a
longshot that focuses on
the band from a low angle, this
would portray the artists as
strong/ intimidating, this adding
to the 'aggressive' music style.

6. -The video to the song "Zetsubou Billy" uses
a range of different techniques to create an
atmosphere / idea of the type of music and
lyrics the band makes. One thing is that the
lighting throughout the video is dark and
quite dull, this makes the band look scary
and possibly intimidating. This could also be
done with the types of camera angles used
which capture the whole band in shot from a
lower perspective. Initially making the band
look bigger/ more powerful.
-The video to the song "Melancholy Hill" also
uses many different techniques to create a
specific atmosphere however the theme
Gorillaz try to maintain throughout their
music is different as its all animated and has
a vague plot in each video which each link
together. The colour scheme through this
video is also bright compared to the video
for Zetsubou Billy. The animated style is also

7. The music video for the song "Freak on a
Leash" is another one that is partly animated.
A cool feature that the artist uses is that the
animated segments and the real-
life ones merge together to make it look like
it blends in. The whole video also follows a
vague storyline which is good for keeping
the viewer entertained/ engaged.
-The video to the song "Au Revoir" Is made
to catch people attention and to engage
them, since the style of the band is "Visual
Kei". The video itself has many shots that
fade into each other, and each shot has
some type of effect that makes the clips
foggy/ old looking. Aside from editing the
artists dress in out of the ordinary clothing
and have cool looking hairstyles and

8. POTENTIAL SONGS
My first idea was "What's Up People" by
Maximum the Hormone because I can use the
short or long version depending on
requirements for the task and it is in another
language so it would be easier not to
accidentally create a plot. I also listen to this
song a lot and it’s the intro for one of my
favorite anime so it means I would enjoy my
work.
My second idea was "Zetsubou Billy" also by
Maximum the Hormone. My reasons for this are
the same as the above.
Another idea I had was "Illuminati" by Malice
Mizer because it is in another language and
is fast paced. This would make it easy to find

9. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
When I make my music video, I want to make
sure that it is edited to look dark and
mysterious but also making sure to keep the
fast cut videos to make sure that it is eccentric/
strange. I also would want to add animated
segments depending on how much time I have
left at the end. I also like the idea of a filter
that makes my clips look old/ scary/ foggy.
More effects that I think will match the song I
picked are ones that appear gothic/ are like
what other metal bands use. I think that the
use of neon lights in shops or leds will look
good, as well as car headlights and or
rain/thunder and lightning.

12. SUMMARY
By the end of creating my music video I hope to have
gotten better at editing and filming using camera angles
and shots. By doing this music video straight away I will
be able to learn new techniques and ideas. It will also
allow me to work better under set deadlines and at
home.

13. SUMMARY
One restriction for my ideas is the animation. I won't
have enough time to fully animate segments while also
editing everything else and trying to film to fill the
needed time, so I won't be adding any animation. I also
think I'll need to tavel somewhere since the area around
my house is not very scenic and is very boring and bland.
I also will not have anyone to record as my mother is ill
and my brother would not want to be on camera, my
friends also dislike being on camera so I think I will use
non copyright lipsyncing videos/ animations to fill in the
gaps. I also think the timing will be diffcult as I still need
to finihs this powerpoint and have no time after college
or throughout the week due to work.

SUMMARY
The song I picked is 3:43 minutes long and is a fast-
paced metal song with some slower parts where a
woman is singing. The whole song's theme/idea is based
on the main character from Death Note, Light Yagami
and his ideals and views where he tries to eliminte all
crime by killing people with a death note in order to
create a perfect world for him to rule.

I will be filming in my room, around my house and in the
town I live in, this will be easier and safer for me since im
familiar with the area and the people there.
