Computer Tablet In China
One might believe that marketing strategies are interchangeable within countries throughout the
world; however, one must carefully consider the cultural and economic disparities between those
countries. Computer tablets vary in price, performance, available applications, and durability. For
example, what one might find inexpensive in the United States could be a month s salary in another.
The primary use of a computer tablet in Mexico is Facebook, while in China it is gaming. Moreover, a
significant influence in purchasing a computer tablet for Americans is performance, while in China it
is the price. Therefore, manufacturers should study, analyze, and implement economic and cultural
differences in their marketing strategies for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Advertising inundates people in virtually every society, whether it is television, print, radio, or the
Internet. These traditional marketing strategies lack authenticity and originality, creating skepticism in
their legitimacy. To avoid this, marketers should provide the resources necessary for Chinese
consumers to practice word of mouth marketing. This research concluded that it is the origin and
quality of the content found on the Internet that makes it legitimate. Utilizing today s modern
technology, nearly anyone can build an Internet community with little or no financial resources. These
platforms for communication can be physical or virtual, such as a storefront or an Internet forum.
Chinese social media platforms, such as Renren and Weibo, are very effective and inexpensive
strategies. People often refer to Renren as China s Facebook, as it is trendy, successful, and free.
Another effective community to practice WOM marketing is a company or product forum. A forum
offers product owners a place where they could openly express their concerns and experiences with
others, while potential customers could obtain product reviews from real people. Online communities
form bonds between members, which in turn develops a reliable resource within the most utilized
information search tool, the Internet.
According to Boston Consulting Group, half of Chinese Internet users say that the Internet

What Is Toys R Us Inc File For Bankruptcy
The Holiday season is the most important time of the year for many retail stores, but this year Toys R
Us inc, might be spending it filing for bankruptcy. It s been reported by sources familiar with this
situation, that Toys R Us, American toy retailer founded in 1948, may file for bankruptcy as soon as
early October. The sources reported that the plans for bankruptcy are not certain, and both plans and
timing could change. The filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia was
triggered by vendors and suppliers tightening terms with the company ahead of the key holiday selling

The Causes Of The Drought In California
The Drought in California has lasted about five years. California is an American state known for it
agricultural industry and large cities. It is on the West Coast near the Ocean as well. It is supposed to
get both rain and snowfall throughout the year, but the drought has prevented as sufficient amount
from occurring.
The drought was caused by overuse and over extraction from water tables and freshwater sources for
the commercial agricultural industry. The biggest cause, however, was a high pressure system near the
coast diverting storms away from California because it cannot rain California is in a drought.
Due to this drought, many crops have dies leading to poverty for many farmers. People are lacking
clean drinking water forcing the state to bring it in from other states. Water tables are collapsing as
well.
To mitigate loss of life close monitoring of dry woods needs to occur that way if a forest fire starts it
can be put out easier, or the surrounding areas can evacuate more effectively.
People are also shifting away from grass lawns to save water from being wasted on something purely
for intrinsic value. They are also using less water for washing dishes and showering to prevent the
need for any more water extraction.
California is also importing more produce instead of growing it on their own to prevent
malnourishment and supplement the lack of produce being grown in state.

New Orleans, Louisiana. It also hit parts of Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mississippi and
Alabama.
It came onto land as a Category three hurricane with powerful windspeeds reaching more than 125
miles per hour.
New Orleans is a large city hit by Katrina with most the land being lower to sea level making It prone
to flooding. It is also has the Mississippi river flowing through it. There are many poverty stricken
neighborhoods usually in areas with more flooding.

High Fructose Corn Syrup Research Paper
High fructose corn syrup is a by product derived from corn and a sweetener used in a plethora of food
items, such as beverages and processed food. High fructose corn syrup differs than table sugar in
composition: high fructose corn syrup is made of either 55% of fructose and 45% glucose, or 58%
fructose and 42% glucose, while white table sugar is composed of 50% glucose and 50% fructose.
Although there is a small difference between the compositions, the body metabolizes high fructose
corn syrup differently than table sugar, which contributes to a myriad of health problems such as
obesity, liver scarring, and diabetes. Therefore, high fructose corn syrup is detrimental to our health
and can cause severe damage to our bodies.
Obesity is a highly prevalent condition in America, affecting approximately one third of the adult
American population. Obesity can be caused by a myriad of factors: genetics, ... Show more content

Medical College of Virginia, wrote and published an article on the National Center for Biotechnical
Information which argued that the study published by Bray, Nielsen and Popkins in 2004 had based
their findings on false information and misperceptions. One misperception that was argued was that
high fructose corn syrup and table sugar are metabolized differently, in which Klurfeld argues that
since they are similar in composition, they are metabolized the same (Klurfeld, 2013). However, as
previously established, while they are similar in composition, fructose immediately converts to fat
after being sent to the liver ( Abundance of fructose not good for the liver, heart , 2010) due to the

Side Effects Of Vegetarianism
Have you ever thought about going on a vegetarian diet? Well you might want to think again. So many
people have different views on this topic. Physicians can argue forever between the pros and cons a
vegetarian diet can have on a person. Vegetarianism isn t necessarily bad for you, but others
completely disagree. Are vegetarian diets as healthy as everyone claims? Vegetarians usually believe
that their diets are very clean and have a great impact on the well being of their life, while others claim
that the diet is completely harmful to your well being. The following will explain the beneficial side
effects and the harmful side effects of vegetarianism. Vegetarian diets are considered one of the most
healthiest diets. Physicians recommend a vegan diet for better overall health. One of the reasons why
is because vegetarians usually live longer than meat eaters. According to the article, Physicians
Committee for Responsible Medicine, a vegetarian diet is lower in saturated fats. (Physicians
Committee, 1) Lower saturated fats in a diet aid to a healthy heart, resulting in a generally longer life
span. There are different types of proteins. Plants and animals, when consumed, each supply us with
different proteins. Replacing animal protein with plant protein lowers blood cholesterol levels. From
the Physicians committee article, a study shown that adding meat to a vegetarian diet raises blood
pressure rapidly and significantly. (Physicians Committee, 1). This information

Pros And Cons Of Stopping Child Labour
Child Labour as defined by the International Labour Organisation, work that deprives children of their
childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development.
This includes interference with their schooling. Child Labour in extreme forms also involves children
being separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and despises or left to fend for
themselves on the streets of large cities at an early age. (ILO, n.d.). In Cote d Ivoire, a major child
labour form is agriculture where children as young as five work in Cocoa farms for cocoa industries,
which have been the major revenue of 60% of export for Cote d Ivoire. With the rapid growth of the
cocoa industry, cheap cocoa is in demand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of actions that could be taken include funding for schools, monitoring of cocoa plantations,
spreading awareness of the cruelty of child labour to households.
However, there are many pros and cons to consider of the implications if child labour were to be
stopped, from the different perspectives of the different stakeholders involved.
The pros will be first discussed. Stopping child labour in Cote d Ivoire would definitely help the
children to be free from physical and mental scars. Child labour, according to various research, will
leave physical and especially psychological scars on the children involved. These scars are caused by
abusive actions by plantation owners, especially those who require the children to complete an
exaggerated amount of work before they get to rest or eat their meals. (Hawksley, 2011).Even if they
eventually get out of this cycle and be free from child labour when they grow up, the scars take a long
time, or may never heal. This deprives them of their whole life s success. Thus, putting an end to child
labour will save many lives by allowing these children to experience childhood and achieve success in
various areas of their

Maternity Leave In Ohio
The advantages are social and cultural, giving the mother time to destress and care for her baby, while
also taking the stress of earning money away. New mothers and families will gain the security and
safety of paid maternity leave, resulting in a better future for our state, our country. An economical
advantage is for the mothers and families who will be financially stable during this time and without
the worry of earning money they need to provide necessary, basic needs to the newborn. By
implementing this solution, lower and middle class families of Ohio are better cared for and women
get the rights they deserve. All in all, the solution will bring many positive changes to our state. The
disadvantages are mostly economical for businesses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An alternative solution is that one company decided to create a program to both allow mothers time
with their child while at the same time being able to advance in their careers. Inkwell implemented a
program where mothers would work almost as if part time and still have paid leave. They would spend
about 20 hours in the work week working and the rest of the time they would spend raising their
newborn. Not only does this help the woman s career keep moving, but it also helps her spend time
properly caring for her child. The program allows for flexibility in their schedules so they can focus on
both work and family, without putting one in front of the other. While this is progress for the issue, it
only pertains to the one company. The rest of America needs to get on board. Some of the advantages
to Inkwell s solution include the family is being supported financially, the mother can continue
improving in her career, stress is taken off of the mother because of the flexible schedule, and the
company doesn t completely lose a worker. The disadvantages of Inkwell s solution include that while
the mothers are still working part time, the employer would still need to hire and pay new employees
to fill the spots while the mothers aren t working. Another alternative solution was developed when
Marisa Torrieri wrote a Forbes article about how unpaid maternity leave could work, if the mother
takes some things into consideration. Since money is one of the main things that mothers are worried
about by taking a leave, Torrieri highlights ways to ensure the money doesn t become a problem. The
first thing a mother can do is take extra work at their job before the baby comes so they can be
financially sound during the leave. She also states that some employers may be willing to give an
employee paid leave, but most mothers are reluctant to ask. She mentions practicing saving

Theme Of The Country Girls
The Pain and Struggles of Finding an Identity Still, after the official Irish Independence in 1922, the
Irish people needed to find an identity free of the English influence, but also of the Catholic morality
and the values celebrated by the Revival. They had to define an identity which could be in step with
the times and truly represent them. It was a particularly difficult task for intellectuals and writers.
They found themselves almost shut up by Irish censorship and rejected by the bigotry that mostly
characterized the middle class society for decades after the Independence. Michael O Donovan in a
speech about censorship in 1962 said that writers had to face the bookless homes, the horrible libraries

In her novel The Country Girls, she also represented an image of Ireland. Throughout it, most of the
major themes related to Ireland and its society are touched, such as drinking, unhappiness in marriage,
education, moving from rural to urban areas, or even abroad, and sexuality. The latter is the main
reason why the book was banned by the Irish censorship upon its publication. In fact, it was a delicate
issue of the Ireland of the 1960s and moreover, it was being explored by a young woman in this book.
What emerges from the novel is a narrow minded society, in which issues are present but not faced.
The narrator protagonist s father is an alcoholic and is violent due to drinking, Hasn t he always to hit
someone when he s drunk? (Country Girls 31), however, Caithleen and her mother cannot really do
anything but dread him. Caithleen s friend s parents are unhappy together, She and Mr Brennan slept
in separate beds (Country Girls 119), but there is no possibility to question their marriage. The
protagonist has a secret relationship with a middle aged man, Mr Gentleman, but it eventually does
not turn up well, showing that a good reputation and social status are more valued than feelings and
truth. The two girls move to Dublin in search of a more exciting life, far from the oppressions of their
small village, I was not sorry to be leaving the old village, it was dead and tired and old and crumbling
and falling down (Country Girls 155), but the end of the story does not seem to suggest that they have
been able to free themselves from their origins, from who they are. And so many other examples of

The Romantic Period Of Literature
The Romantic Period of literature took place roughly 200 years ago, but examples of Romanticism
can still be seen today. The Romantic authors most certainly had an impact on many artists to come.
Edgar Allan Poe is often a name that comes to mind when discussing Romanticism and especially
Dark Romanticism and for good reason. Poe exemplifies Romanticism and many examples can be
seen in his work, such as the House of Usher. Some traits of Romanticism include high drama,
pathetic fallacy, and shocking climax, which are a few pillars of the Romanticism style. These pillars
still hold up in modern day art, with many filmmakers, such as M. Night Shyamalan who also
exemplifies traits such as high drama, pathetic fallacy, and black and white characters.
Edgar Allen Poe was an American author who wrote many short stories and poetry that has glorified
him as a master of horror, suspense, psychological thriller, and romanticism. One of his works that
embodies such pillars of Romanticism is the Fall of the House of Usher. In this story, Poe embraces
pathetic fallacy from the very beginning. He talks about how gloomy and mysterious the house is
which is also a house from his childhood. He sets the stage with the following quote: DURING the
whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively
low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of
country ; and at length found myself, as the

A Few Miles South Of Soledad, The Salinas River
A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and
green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before
reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and
rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green
with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding; and
sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool. On the sandy
bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs
among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are
covered with the night tracks of coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with
the split wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark.
There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming
down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily down
from the highway in the evening to jungle up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb of a giant
sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn smooth by men who have sat on it.
Evening of a hot day started the little wind to moving among the leaves. The shade climbed up the
hills toward the top. On

Theme Of Young Goodman Brown And The Cask Of Amontillado
The gothic genre is typically very dark and mysterious, and one of the ways that Nathaniel Hawthorne
and Edgar Allan Poe compliment and counteract this goal in their works Young Goodman Brown and
The Cask of Amontillado , respectively, is with irony. Their masterful use of irony engages the reader
in the work and invites them to consider the story and the characters intentions. The irony presented in
Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe
allows us to understand the emotions of the characters and the mood of the work, however, Poe
utilizes irony to convey humor, while Hawthorne uses it to convey fear. The Cask of Amontillado by
Edgar Allan Poe is about the thirst for vengeance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nathaniel Hawthorne uses irony to a different effect in his short story, Young Goodman Brown .
Young Goodman Brown is about a man who, unbeknownst to his wife, goes on a journey into the
forest with questionable motives. While we do know how Cask of Amontillado will end, we do not
know exactly where our protagonist is going in Hawthorne s work. The author s use of irony gradually
provides us clues about Goodman Brown s destination. Our protagonist s name itself is ironic, given
that he is making more haste on his present evil purpose, (Hawthorne 4). This is verbal irony because
a good man will not be seeking out a wicked deed. Goodman Brown constantly feels guilty and
considers his religion as he walks towards his goal. As he reminisces about his religious education, he
recognizes the minister and deacon, jogging along quietly, as they were wont to do, when bound to
some ordination or ecclesiastical council, (Hawthorne 8). The author does not revealed to us where
exactly Goodman Brown is going, but the juxtaposition of the church with this journey is situational
irony. On any other day, seeing the minister and Deacon Gookin jog along will let an observer know
that they would be headed to church. After Hawthorne reveals to us that the protagonist is heading to a
satanic ritual, the author describes to us the setting. The aspect that unnerves Goodman Brown the
most is a figure that bore no slight similitude, both

Archaeological Ceramics Paper
Archaeological ceramics is the most prolific relics that have been studied to expand our understanding
of past cultures. Archaeological study based on the investigation of pottery shape, color, decoration
style and materials that can give a plenty of information regarding typological and invaluable
information, dating and provenance. The study of the mineralogical properties of ceramics plays a
vital role to understand the previous technologies. However, the manufacturing techniques, cleaning
of the clays, adding of the temper, and shaping of objects, firing atmosphere can significantly change
the mineralogical composition of the ceramic objects. In addition to this, the life cycle of ceramics and

Jealousy In John Knowles A Separate Peace
Jealousy is an emotion very evident in our society. We often compare ourselves to others, noticing
what they have that we do not, most commonly in terms of money or looks. Even those close to us
spark our jealousy, maybe a friend or sibling; although most wouldn t admit the fact. Author John
Knowles touches on this subject in his first published novel A Separate Peace. Through the voice of
Gene, Knowles uses figurative language in a self deprecating tone to show jealousy, as evident in the
passage, The second wave, as it tore toward the beach with me, spewed me a little ahead of it,
encroaching rapidly; suddenly it was immeasurably bigger than I was, it rushed me from the control of

Wordsworth And Shelley s On Powers And Illusions Of The...
The Romantic period, a time that writers such as Wordsworth and Shelley focused their writing in the
centre of life and social importance. An important aspect of Romanticism: its emphasis upon the
power and terrors of the inner imaginative life (Watson, 2012, p. 1). The Prelude celebrates
Wordsworth s life retained through memories and with the act of remembering, depicting emotions
and experiences. Whereas, Shelley and the Ode to the West Wind engaged his audience with inner and
outer lives situations, ideas and elements of nature that represent his own position and ideas. This
essay will compare and contrast Wordsworth recollections and Shelley dramatizations of the powers
and terrors of the inner imaginative life . Also considering, rhyme scheme, stanza forms, the reasons
for the use of assonance and alliteration, and other poetic techniques. Finally, how do these effects
relate to the main question. When given consideration to the poems, the descriptions demonstrated a
deeper power of inner imaginative life. The power as stated comes from the heart or the soul, but also
somehow from outside (The Open University, 2012, Romantic authorship, transcript p. 1). In
comparison, both poets combine natural landscape with sublime vision of poetic power, that creates
debates to what is real and or subjective. The Romantic period required authors to fulfil the Romantic
ideology. Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 1822) with a reputation for social and political ideas

Gay Adoption Research Paper
Gay Adoption: To Condemn or Condone
Last year, 29,471 children turned 18 and left the foster care system without an adoptive family (
Adoption 1). Unfortunately for those young adults, knowing the comfort of a stable family was not
part of their childhood. Though there is a high demand for children to be adopted, the reality is many
are not being adopted. Furthermore, even though there are children that need a good home, state
governments are purposely making laws that prohibit certain groups of people from adopting children.
States like Florida and Mississippi are both culprits. Two groups that are especially being targeted by
unfair laws are gays and lesbians. These unfair laws are clear discrimination, and they should be put to
an end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, the children are the ones who really suffer. If states limit the groups of people allowed
to adopt children, then more and more children will not have a family. According to the text, There are
423,773 children in the U.S. foster care system; 114,556 of these children are available for adoption.
Their birth parent s legal rights have been permanently terminated and children are left without a
family ( Adoption 1). There are at least 114,556 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting and
waiting and waiting for a family to take them home. By precluding gays and lesbians from adopting
them, the children will be without a home for their whole adolescent life. In addition, there are gay
and lesbian couples where one of the partners has a child from a previous marriage or relationship.
Even in this case, the non biological parent cannot adopt the child, and this leads to further suffering
for the children. In the article, Final Holdout on Same Sex Adoption , the author, Tamar Lewin, states,
Hannah Marie Phillips makes the same point, in her 8 year old fashion: We want the other name on the
birth certificate like my first mom, because both of my moms want to be a mommy, she said (2). The
interview of a little girl, Hannah Marie Phillips, explains that even she does not feel like her mothers
are receiving the justice they deserve. When the children are suffering too, something is definitely

Eliot Deutsch s The Concept Of The Body
The body, while seemingly clearly definable and universally understood, is a concept that humans
have struggled to define and understand for much of history. Social conceptions of the mind or spirit
shaped philosophers understandings of the relationship between the mind and body, as well as
attitudes toward the body. In his essay The Concept of the Body, Eliot Deutsch presents readers with
four popular modes of conceiving of the body. These models, popularized at different points
throughout history, are the prison, the temple, the machine, and the instrument. Through reading Plato
s dialogue Phaedo, one gains perspective on Socrates conception of the body as primarily a prison.
The prison body metaphor, as explained by Deutsch, is premised on the fundamental belief in a duality
of mind and body, meaning that the mind and body are separate entities with different wants, needs,
and characteristics. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one goes to prison, one is stripped of one s freedom, possessions, and overall sense of identity.
Similarly, Socrates views the body as taking something away from the soul. However, in this case it is
not freedom nor identity, but wisdom. The belief that the body takes something from an individual is
present in Socrates epistemological beliefs. To Socrates, learning is recollection. To prove this,
Socrates introduces the Theory of Opposites, which states that all things in the world come out of their
opposites: largeness out of smallness, loudness out of quietness, life out of death. He reasons that this
proves that the soul is immortal and after death enters a new body. This idea alone lends itself to the
body as a prison metaphor as a soul does not belong to any body, but rather put inside of a body with a
degree of randomness. However, the prison body metaphor is more strongly reinforced by Socrates
belief that the soul is exposed to the Forms in the period between death and

What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,...
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and
democracy in Ancient Greece.
Monarchy.
There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy.
Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or
suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a
head of state.
In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique
two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they
weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many
decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the
times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE
(Brand, n.d. ,p36).
Aristocracy.
This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call
today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them a
good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017).
Tyranny.
A tyranny could be described as a government that would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

oligarchy of 400 took power by overthrowing the assembly, it seems they were a little tyrannical in the

Analysis Of St. Michael Chaldean Catholic Church
More than forty percent of Americans attend church every week (Huffington Post). Every week I
attend mass at St.Michael Chaldean Catholic Church in El Cajon, California. Every time I go to
church I do not sit with the parishioners instead I serve. What this means is that I help read passages
and help with what is needed.
Since I serve, I have to be focused, but this time I decided to sit with parishioners. Because there are
three different sections, I went three different weeks and noticed a big difference from each section.
The first week I sat where the majority of the people sat at. When first walking in I saw a family of

I thought everyone paid attention to mass. I began to ask him, How do you not remember this
happening? He replied in an embarrassed tone, I know it is wrong, but I was asleep for the most part
of mass. When I asked him why he decided to sleep during mass, he said, I have two kids and a job to
take care of. I barely have time to sleep. After hearing this I asked him, Then why do you come to this
mass and not another one? In which he replied with this is the only time that I can come to mass.
Anyone could tell that this man was not paying attention so I decided to go ask a female who was
sitting next to me.
During mass she was not fiddling with anything or sleeping, but instead it looked like she was paying
attention. She was around fifteen and her name was Emma. I asked her the same question I asked
Peter about the deacon. She said, The truth is I was day dreaming. I was in complete shock. I thought
she was paying attention to mass. I began to stutter when asking her Why were you daydreaming? She
began to look at her feet when she said in a very quiet voice Church is boring. The only reason I come
is that my family forces me to. This amazed me. Similar to Peter she did not pay attention during the
mass.
The second week I decided to sit in the baby room. This room is if you have an infant and is made so
that no one can hear your child cry other than the people in that room. When first walking into the

In the book, The Land of Stories A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer, the main character, Rook,
changes throughout the book due to the conflicts he faces.
To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly Alex;
the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her figure out
why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I was going to
suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto her farmand have
a look around. (Colfer 135). In this piece of evidence Rook is helping Alex go see what Little Bo Peep
could be upto. He and Alex then go to her farm and look around. He helped her discover something
she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his idea. Rook and Alex did have a
crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do this as something to impress her,
but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex could have never found this out. She
pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her arms around his neck. She had held it together
very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer

Rook she immediately felt joy for one of the first times that day. Rook helped her relax and he also

This day in age, contracting cholera is not something people worry about in the United States. The
United States was able to escape this worry because of effective public health measures and other
resources. However, in third world countries such as Haiti, a cholera outbreak is a frequent worry.
Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, found in contaminated waters. Symptoms of
cholera include diarrhea, dehydration, increased heart rate, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and
dry mouth, throat, nose and eyelids (WebMD 2014). In industrialized countries, the implementation of
water treatment facilities and sewage has eradicated cholera. Cholera is easily treated, by simply

Cholera, transmitted by contaminated food and water. When the disease arrived in New York City in
summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the
Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks.
Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease.
Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows
how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social
relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government
in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera
was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York
City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there
was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was
packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely
in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease.
Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the
population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled
to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and
those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment.
Those who owned buildings throughout the city refused to lease their spaces for hospitals, in fear of
contamination. Most doctors worked to reduce the suffering of cholera victims. During that time,
medical knowledge was limited and so were

Abina and the Important Men
Abina and the Important Men: a Graphical History was written by Trevor R. Getz and Liz Clarke. The
story of Abina Mansah is somewhat an inspiring graphical history based on an 1876 court transcript.
Abina, a woman of West Africa, was wrongfully enslaved and as a consequence, she took her former
master, Quamina Eddoo, to court. The overall setting took place on the Gold Coast during the 19th
century. The main scenes take place in the court room, which is filled with many important men. The
men included a British judge, two Euro African attorneys, countrymen, and an entire jury of wealthy,
high class local town leaders. This book is broken down into several parts; the graphical history,

Davis reminded Abina that even though all were free, Eddoo was an important man and the British
didn t like to alienate important men. Following, the magistrate, William Melton, agreed to hear the
case and sent at Quamina Eddoo on the charge of slavery. The trial started and Abina was questioned
as to why she believed she was a slave. Abina responded saying, They held me down, and cut my
beads, and I was told that I was to be their amperley their slave. (Chapter 2, page 24) Throughout the
court case and Abina s flashback to the court, the men of the court strived to somehow imposed their
own meanings and understandings of slavery upon Abina and silence her.
As mentioned earlier, Abina wanted to punish her master, Eddoo for wrongly enslaving her. Abina
wasn t as educated as the important men hearing her case, but she truly believed she was a slave. She
expressed herself in her own language which wasn t clearly understood by the important men of the
court. Because she lacked education causing her to contradict, become confused or inaccurately
answer the questions, Eddoo s lawyer and the men began to create a difference between being a slave
and acting upon free will like a slave. The magistrate, Mr. Melton, asked Abina if during her stay with
Eccoah and Quamina Eddoo, was she compelled to work against her will. (Chapter 3, page

Social Norm In Moby Dick
All men live enveloped in whale lines. All are born with halters round their necks; but it is only when
caught in the swift, sudden turn of death, that mortals realize the silent, subtle, ever present perils of
life. (Melville, 1851) The creation of Moby Dick was a significant turning point for American
literature. Melville s application of intense symbolism, challenging themes, and extraordinary
allusions contrast with that of typical American writings of that time. In fact, many Americans rejected
the novel due to the fact Moby Dick explicates realism that many Americans neglected to comprehend
in the 19th century; many Americans were not aware the immoral social norms they practiced. In this

Additionally, Melville addressed allusions to Greek Mythology including the three Fates who
conducted the strings of life and destiny. In Moby Dick, the crew seized destiny into their own hands;
however, in the end, life and death were augured by the harpoon ropes. Ahab stooped to clear it; he did
clear it; but the flying turn caught him round the neck, and voicelessly as Turkish mutes bowstring
their victim, he was shot out of the boat, ere the crew knew he was gone. Next instant, the heavy eye
splice in the rope s final end flew out of the stark empty tub, knocked down an oarsman, and smiting
the sea, disappeared in its depths. (Melville, 1851) Despite the attempt of the crew, they were not the

Americans concluded God constructed them as the superior nation, and many Americans grew

Introduction
The osmolarity of a solution is the concentration measured of a solute. To determine the concentration
of a solution, one must first understand what osmosis is and how it works. Osmosis is the spontaneous
passage or diffusion of water or other solvents through a semipermeable membrane according to the
Britannica Encyclopedia. The semipermeable membrane is one that blocks the passages of dissolved
substances such as solutes. This process, in more recent times, provides a more accurate study of how
water can diffuse across a cell membrane when water molecules have a high concentration to an area
in which they have a low concentration. It was originally studied in 1877 by plant physiologist,
Wilhelm, Pfeffer. (Britannica Encyclopedia 2015).
Osmosis is described in one of three ways when comparing more than one solution. The cell s external
and internal environment helps determine tonicity, which is defined as how the cell reacts to its
environment. When the cell s environment is equal in osmolarity to itself and there is no change, it is
considered an isotonic solution. When the environment has a higher osmolarity, shrinkage occurs and
it is considered a hypertonic solution. When the environment has a lower osmolarity, swellings occurs
and it is considered hypotonic.

Child Labor In Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens
Do you enjoy being young and privileged? Do you enjoy being able to play as much as you want?
How does it feel, not having spend your childhood working in a factory? You have the chance to live
freely, be a kid, go places, hangout with your friends, etc. Unfortunately, life wasn t that easy in the
victorian period.
In the Victorian Period, the workforce and the economy gained profit off of child labor. Most kids
were forced into child labor during the Victorian Period. Other kids had to help take care of their
families. The government allowed child labor because it brought success into the economy.
Children had tons of energy, they were susceptible, or gullible, and they lacked the ability to revolt
against injustices (child labor).
In the book, Oliver spends most of his days working in return of small meals, no education, and a ...

department when company embarks on an international operation for business performances. HRM
has been defined to be a function that helps organisations to achieve their goals hiring and obtaining
performing workers ((Philpott, 2010).
Many organisations are very sensitive with regards its HRM responsibilities and practices towards

The principle of ROA is to free lawbreakers from criminal record stains after serving their conviction
term, especially those with minor offence. The rehabilitation period is determined during the judgment
time. The conviction is finished when there is no outstanding period of the sentence; but the ex
offenders must reveal this when applying for jobs, in civil proceedings or when obtaining insurance
(Gov.Uk, Online).

The Differences Of The English Common Law And Civil Law
Relocating to Germany would mean that the business must consider how the different law systems
will affect them as a business, therefore they must establish the differences between English common
law and the civil law. The English common law is set based on decisions made by the higher courts,
judicial opinion and similar cases which is known as doctrine of Stare decisis while the civil law
consists of a codified set of laws . The common law involves the judges making the decisions, setting
the precedent, and controlling the conflict between the opposing parties. This differs to civil law as
judges must apply the relevant law to the case and make a judgement based on that.
The common law is built through judgements made from the higher courts instead of through statutes
or written legislations, this common law system is mainly put into place for similar cases to receive
fair and similar treatments. This means that judges follow how previously decided cases were treated
based on their facts, this is known as judicial precedent. Hence why this is advantage as these opinions
are developed and written at the end of trials which then are set as precedents to apply to similar cases
in the future, this therefore means that individuals receive a fair and equal treatment. It also assists
people with having a better idea on how their cases will be treated depending on the circumstances.
For instance, R v R [1992] case where the defendant attempted to rape his wife, even though

entrance of the store there were two tables filled with denim with brand signage visible, other brands
were hung with brand signage above the area. Throughout the store the denim is merchandised
perfectly the skinny and bootcut denim styles are easily accessible and arranged in logical order by
brand, style, and color to make shopping easy.

Markdowns Markdown Areas
A:
 We could tell just by looking at the items why they were marked down they were all summer styles,
out of season lighter denim washes, and tops are sleeveless tanks in a bright range of colors.
B:
 The prices in the denim range from $79.97 to $119.97 the tops range from $17.97 to $34.97. The
items seem to be properly priced however now that the temperature seems to be dropping, I would
expect the prices on the tops especially be slashed again. Even though the denim on sale consists of
mostly lighter colors, they can still be worn year round so they most likely will not see too many huge
markdowns for the change of weather.
C:
The Buckle location that we visited has a huge Forever 21 store to compete with about three stores
down. Buckle carries a range of premium

How Did Germany s Rise To World Power
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Germany s military thought they had a chance of becoming a world
power, only if some sort of series of events had occurred which had given them a chance to show their
potential. On June 28, 1924, the heir to the Austro Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand had
been shot to death by a Serbian nationalist. This incident was used to justify declaring Slav
nationalism, and soon this set off a rapid chain of events. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany gave Austria
Hungary consent to declare war on Serbia and promised to have their back if Serbia s ally Russia
interfered. In the near future, more allies were made and more powers were brought into the war. Most
people thought WWI started with Austria declaring war on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1806, Prussia s army had one of the most powerful army in the world. During this time, Napoleon I
made many changes in German speaking lands such as freeing the serfs, making trade easier, and
abolishing laws against Jews. However, German people started to fight to free their lands from French
rule and started working toward a unified state, which gave rise to the Napoleonic wars. Prussia s
army was not ready for the fight and they were destroyed two times by Napoleon I, once in Jena and
the other in Auerstedt. This resulted in them making reforms such as raising more troops from the ages
25 40, and creating a general staff with militaristic intelligence. The general staff provided the
Prussian Junkers with advantages such as new strategies, improved training for officers, advanced
weaponary, and efficient ways of communication. In 1813, after the necessary reforms were made, the
Prussian army fought many battles and conquered Napoleon I. But, the defeat on Napoleon I did not
resolve the issues, Germany was advised to dismantle their government at the Congress of Vienna. The
economy and the military of Prussia started to promote unification, and they manufactured a
militaristic society with obedient

- En-Side Effects Of Aboriginal Striation On The Gneiss
The Granite rock is an intrusive rock that formed from magma coming from beneath the earth s
surface. It went through a slow cooling process that allowed the minerals; mainly quartz and feldspar
to form where the result is the coarse texture. The granite went through hydrothermal metamorphism
(involves hot fluid) and contact metamorphism. The gneiss, however, being able to withstand high
temperatures came from a large country rock. This piece of gneiss broke off from the country rock and
got trapped in between as the granite cooled. The gneiss then became the xenolith. This shows that the
granite is the younger rock and the gneiss the older. The striations on the Gneiss were caused by
faults. A slick en side fault caused the horizontal striations

The Human Resources Department Of An Organization Or...
1. Please briefly explain why you chose to interview this person:
I ended up interviewing Jennifer Noonan who works in the Human Resources Student Employment
Department in University Housing. I choose to interview her because I work in housing and I was able
to get in contact with her fairly easily. I also hope to work in the field of Management and Human
resources, so I wanted to interview someone in that field to get a sense of what the career entails.
2. What are at least four things you learned from your informational interview about your contact s
career path/job responsibilities, employer, and/or industry?
Jennifer explained to me the basic role of the human resources department of an organization or
corporation. I learned that it s one of the most important aspects of a business, because they are the
ones who make sure all of the other departments are running as efficient as possible. Helping with the
hiring process of new employees is something I didn t know HR is a part of, and they help hiring
managers find the best possible candidates and make sure everything is in place for their future
employment. Jennifer also informed me that the role of HR is constantly changing, and the old
stereotypes of HR being the sticklers or the mean people is slowly changing. Human resources job is
to follow and enforce the rules of the government and corporation, and that s why they were always
portrayed negatively.

Irony In Tamburlaine
The foolish king becomes a subject for laughter for his ironical thundering speech. The same irony can
be noticed in Cosroe s alliance with Tamburlaine. After they have defeated Mycetes, Tamburlaine
challenges Cosroe. The newly crowned king of Persia responds:
What means this devilish shepherd to aspire
With such a giantly presumption,
To cast up hills against the face of heaven,
And dare the force of angry Jupiter?
But as he thrust them underneath the hills,
And pressed out fire from their burning jaws,
So will I send this monstrous slave to hell,
Where flames shall ever feed upon his soul. (p.24)
However, Cosroe is defeated by Tamburlaine, just like Mycetes. Ironically, one of the reasons why
Cosroe has wanted to dethrone his brother is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And such are objects fit for Tamburlaine,
Wherein, as in a mirror, may be seen
His honor, that consists in shedding blood
When men presume to manage arms with him. (p.28)
Tamburlaine says that the deaths of Zabina and Bajazeth are mirrors that reflect his honour, much to
his please. Their deaths reflect more honour on themselves than on Tamburlaine. Earlier in Act V,
Tamburlaine, when attacking a city, has ordered the deaths of four virgins sent to him to plead for
Damascus. This is his habit to give a city that he attacks two days to decide to surrender. On the third
day, if no surrender is coming, he destroys the city. On the third day of the siege of Damascus, the four
virgins are sent out in hopes that their innocence can persuade Tamburlaine to spare the city. He asks
them what they see on the point of his sword and, when they answer that they see fear and steel,
Tamburlaine says,
Your fearful minds are thick and misty then,
For there sit Death; there sits imperious Death,
Keeping his circuit by the slicing edge.
But I am pleased you shall not see him

Computer Tablet In China One might believe that marketing strategies are interchangeable within countries throughout the world; however, one must carefully consider the cultural and economic disparities between those countries. Computer tablets vary in price, performance, available applications, and durability. For example, what one might find inexpensive in the United States could be a month s salary in another. The primary use of a computer tablet in Mexico is Facebook, while in China it is gaming. Moreover, a significant influence in purchasing a computer tablet for Americans is performance, while in China it is the price. Advertising inundates people in virtually every society, whether it is television, print, radio, or the Internet. These traditional marketing strategies lack authenticity and originality, creating skepticism in their legitimacy. To avoid this, marketers should provide the resources necessary for Chinese consumers to practice word of mouth marketing. This research concluded that it is the origin and quality of the content found on the Internet that makes it legitimate. Utilizing today s modern technology, nearly anyone can build an Internet community with little or no financial resources. These platforms for communication can be physical or virtual, such as a storefront or an Internet forum. Chinese social media platforms, such as Renren and Weibo, are very effective and inexpensive strategies. People often refer to Renren as China s Facebook, as it is trendy, successful, and free. Another effective community to practice WOM marketing is a company or product forum. A forum offers product owners a place where they could openly express their concerns and experiences with others, while potential customers could obtain product reviews from real people. Online communities form bonds between members, which in turn develops a reliable resource within the most utilized information search tool, the Internet. • 5. The Causes Of The Drought In California The Drought in California has lasted about five years. California is an American state known for it agricultural industry and large cities. It is on the West Coast near the Ocean as well. It is supposed to get both rain and snowfall throughout the year, but the drought has prevented as sufficient amount from occurring. The drought was caused by overuse and over extraction from water tables and freshwater sources for the commercial agricultural industry. The biggest cause, however, was a high pressure system near the coast diverting storms away from California because it cannot rain California is in a drought. Due to this drought, many crops have dies leading to poverty for many farmers. People are lacking clean drinking water forcing the state to bring it in from other states. Water tables are collapsing as well. To mitigate loss of life close monitoring of dry woods needs to occur that way if a forest fire starts it can be put out easier, or the surrounding areas can evacuate more effectively. People are also shifting away from grass lawns to save water from being wasted on something purely for intrinsic value. They are also using less water for washing dishes and showering to prevent the need for any more water extraction. California is also importing more produce instead of growing it on their own to prevent malnourishment and supplement the lack of produce being grown in state. 8. • 6. High Fructose Corn Syrup Research Paper High fructose corn syrup is a by product derived from corn and a sweetener used in a plethora of food items, such as beverages and processed food. High fructose corn syrup differs than table sugar in composition: high fructose corn syrup is made of either 55% of fructose and 45% glucose, or 58% fructose and 42% glucose, while white table sugar is composed of 50% glucose and 50% fructose. Although there is a small difference between the compositions, the body metabolizes high fructose corn syrup differently than table sugar, which contributes to a myriad of health problems such as obesity, liver scarring, and diabetes. Therefore, high fructose corn syrup is detrimental to our health and can cause severe damage to our bodies. This includes interference with their schooling. Child Labour in extreme forms also involves children being separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and despises or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities at an early age. (ILO, n.d.). However, there are many pros and cons to consider of the implications if child labour were to be stopped, from the different perspectives of the different stakeholders involved. The pros will be first discussed. Stopping child labour in Cote d Ivoire would definitely help the children to be free from physical and mental scars. Child labour, according to various research, will leave physical and especially psychological scars on the children involved. These scars are caused by abusive actions by plantation owners, especially those who require the children to complete an exaggerated amount of work before they get to rest or eat their meals. (Hawksley, 2011).Even if they eventually get out of this cycle and be free from child labour when they grow up, the scars take a long time, or may never heal. This deprives them of their whole life s success. New mothers and families will gain the security and safety of paid maternity leave, resulting in a better future for our state, our country. An economical advantage is for the mothers and families who will be financially stable during this time and without the worry of earning money they need to provide necessary, basic needs to the newborn. By implementing this solution, lower and middle class families of Ohio are better cared for and women get the rights they deserve. All in all, the solution will bring many positive changes to our state. The disadvantages are mostly economical for businesses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An alternative solution is that one company decided to create a program to both allow mothers time with their child while at the same time being able to advance in their careers. Inkwell implemented a program where mothers would work almost as if part time and still have paid leave. They would spend about 20 hours in the work week working and the rest of the time they would spend raising their newborn. Not only does this help the woman s career keep moving, but it also helps her spend time properly caring for her child. The program allows for flexibility in their schedules so they can focus on both work and family, without putting one in front of the other. While this is progress for the issue, it only pertains to the one company. The rest of America needs to get on board. Some of the advantages to Inkwell s solution include the family is being supported financially, the mother can continue improving in her career, stress is taken off of the mother because of the flexible schedule, and the company doesn t completely lose a worker. The disadvantages of Inkwell s solution include that while the mothers are still working part time, the employer would still need to hire and pay new employees to fill the spots while the mothers aren t working. Another alternative solution was developed when Marisa Torrieri wrote a Forbes article about how unpaid maternity leave could work, if the mother takes some things into consideration. Since money is one of the main things that mothers are worried about by taking a leave, Torrieri highlights ways to ensure the money doesn t become a problem. The first thing a mother can do is take extra work at their job before the baby comes so they can be financially sound during the leave. She also states that some employers may be willing to give an employee paid leave, but most mothers are reluctant to ask. She mentions practicing saving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of The Country Girls The Pain and Struggles of Finding an Identity Still, after the official Irish Independence in 1922, the Irish people needed to find an identity free of the English influence, but also of the Catholic morality and the values celebrated by the Revival. They had to define an identity which could be in step with the times and truly represent them. It was a particularly difficult task for intellectuals and writers. They found themselves almost shut up by Irish censorship and rejected by the bigotry that mostly characterized the middle class society for decades after the Independence. Throughout it, most of the major themes related to Ireland and its society are touched, such as drinking, unhappiness in marriage, education, moving from rural to urban areas, or even abroad, and sexuality. The latter is the main reason why the book was banned by the Irish censorship upon its publication. In fact, it was a delicate issue of the Ireland of the 1960s and moreover, it was being explored by a young woman in this book. What emerges from the novel is a narrow minded society, in which issues are present but not faced. The narrator protagonist s father is an alcoholic and is violent due to drinking, Hasn t he always to hit someone when he s drunk? • 15. The Romantic Period Of Literature The Romantic Period of literature took place roughly 200 years ago, but examples of Romanticism can still be seen today. The Romantic authors most certainly had an impact on many artists to come. Edgar Allan Poe is often a name that comes to mind when discussing Romanticism and especially Dark Romanticism and for good reason. Poe exemplifies Romanticism and many examples can be seen in his work, such as the House of Usher. Some traits of Romanticism include high drama, pathetic fallacy, and shocking climax, which are a few pillars of the Romanticism style. These pillars still hold up in modern day art, with many filmmakers, such as M. Night Shyamalan who also exemplifies traits such as high drama, pathetic fallacy, and black and white characters. Edgar Allen Poe was an American author who wrote many short stories and poetry that has glorified him as a master of horror, suspense, psychological thriller, and romanticism. One of his works that embodies such pillars of Romanticism is the Fall of the House of Usher. In this story, Poe embraces pathetic fallacy from the very beginning. He talks about how gloomy and mysterious the house is which is also a house from his childhood. He sets the stage with the following quote: DURING the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country ; and at length found myself, as the ... The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool. On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark. There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily down from the highway in the evening to jungle up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb of a giant sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn smooth by men who have sat on it. • 17. Theme Of Young Goodman Brown And The Cask Of Amontillado The gothic genre is typically very dark and mysterious, and one of the ways that Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe compliment and counteract this goal in their works Young Goodman Brown and The Cask of Amontillado , respectively, is with irony. Their masterful use of irony engages the reader in the work and invites them to consider the story and the characters intentions. The irony presented in Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe allows us to understand the emotions of the characters and the mood of the work, however, Poe utilizes irony to convey humor, while Hawthorne uses it to convey fear. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses irony to a different effect in his short story, Young Goodman Brown . Young Goodman Brown is about a man who, unbeknownst to his wife, goes on a journey into the forest with questionable motives. While we do know how Cask of Amontillado will end, we do not know exactly where our protagonist is going in Hawthorne s work. The author s use of irony gradually provides us clues about Goodman Brown s destination. Our protagonist s name itself is ironic, given that he is making more haste on his present evil purpose, (Hawthorne 4). This is verbal irony because a good man will not be seeking out a wicked deed. Goodman Brown constantly feels guilty and considers his religion as he walks towards his goal. As he reminisces about his religious education, he recognizes the minister and deacon, jogging along quietly, as they were wont to do, when bound to some ordination or ecclesiastical council, (Hawthorne 8). The author does not revealed to us where exactly Goodman Brown is going, but the juxtaposition of the church with this journey is situational irony. On any other day, seeing the minister and Deacon Gookin jog along will let an observer know that they would be headed to church. After Hawthorne reveals to us that the protagonist is heading to a satanic ritual, the author describes to us the setting. The aspect that unnerves Goodman Brown the most is a figure that bore no slight similitude, both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Wordsworth And Shelley s On Powers And Illusions Of The... The Romantic period, a time that writers such as Wordsworth and Shelley focused their writing in the centre of life and social importance. An important aspect of Romanticism: its emphasis upon the power and terrors of the inner imaginative life (Watson, 2012, p. 1). The Prelude celebrates Wordsworth s life retained through memories and with the act of remembering, depicting emotions and experiences. Whereas, Shelley and the Ode to the West Wind engaged his audience with inner and outer lives situations, ideas and elements of nature that represent his own position and ideas. This essay will compare and contrast Wordsworth recollections and Shelley dramatizations of the powers and terrors of the inner imaginative life . Also considering, rhyme scheme, stanza forms, the reasons for the use of assonance and alliteration, and other poetic techniques. Finally, how do these effects relate to the main question. When given consideration to the poems, the descriptions demonstrated a deeper power of inner imaginative life. The power as stated comes from the heart or the soul, but also somehow from outside (The Open University, 2012, Romantic authorship, transcript p. 1). In comparison, both poets combine natural landscape with sublime vision of poetic power, that creates debates to what is real and or subjective. The Romantic period required authors to fulfil the Romantic ideology. Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 1822) with a reputation for social and political ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Gay Adoption Research Paper Gay Adoption: To Condemn or Condone Last year, 29,471 children turned 18 and left the foster care system without an adoptive family ( Adoption 1). Unfortunately for those young adults, knowing the comfort of a stable family was not part of their childhood. Though there is a high demand for children to be adopted, the reality is many are not being adopted. Furthermore, even though there are children that need a good home, state governments are purposely making laws that prohibit certain groups of people from adopting children. States like Florida and Mississippi are both culprits. Two groups that are especially being targeted by unfair laws are gays and lesbians. These unfair laws are clear discrimination, and they should be put to an end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, the children are the ones who really suffer. If states limit the groups of people allowed to adopt children, then more and more children will not have a family. According to the text, There are 423,773 children in the U.S. foster care system; 114,556 of these children are available for adoption. Their birth parent s legal rights have been permanently terminated and children are left without a family ( Adoption 1). There are at least 114,556 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting and waiting and waiting for a family to take them home. By precluding gays and lesbians from adopting them, the children will be without a home for their whole adolescent life. In addition, there are gay and lesbian couples where one of the partners has a child from a previous marriage or relationship. Even in this case, the non biological parent cannot adopt the child, and this leads to further suffering for the children. In the article, Final Holdout on Same Sex Adoption , the author, Tamar Lewin, states, Hannah Marie Phillips makes the same point, in her 8 year old fashion: We want the other name on the birth certificate like my first mom, because both of my moms want to be a mommy, she said (2). • 24. Eliot Deutsch s The Concept Of The Body The body, while seemingly clearly definable and universally understood, is a concept that humans have struggled to define and understand for much of history. Social conceptions of the mind or spirit shaped philosophers understandings of the relationship between the mind and body, as well as attitudes toward the body. In his essay The Concept of the Body, Eliot Deutsch presents readers with four popular modes of conceiving of the body. These models, popularized at different points throughout history, are the prison, the temple, the machine, and the instrument. Through reading Plato s dialogue Phaedo, one gains perspective on Socrates conception of the body as primarily a prison. The prison body metaphor, as explained by Deutsch, is premised on the fundamental belief in a duality of mind and body, meaning that the mind and body are separate entities with different wants, needs, and characteristics. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When one goes to prison, one is stripped of one s freedom, possessions, and overall sense of identity. Similarly, Socrates views the body as taking something away from the soul. However, in this case it is not freedom nor identity, but wisdom. The belief that the body takes something from an individual is present in Socrates epistemological beliefs. To Socrates, learning is recollection. To prove this, Socrates introduces the Theory of Opposites, which states that all things in the world come out of their opposites: largeness out of smallness, loudness out of quietness, life out of death. He reasons that this proves that the soul is immortal and after death enters a new body. This idea alone lends itself to the body as a prison metaphor as a soul does not belong to any body, but rather put inside of a body with a degree of randomness. However, the prison body metaphor is more strongly reinforced by Socrates belief that the soul is exposed to the Forms in the period between death and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. What Is The Differences Between The Monarchy, Aristocracy,... In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy in Ancient Greece. Monarchy. There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a head of state. In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36). Aristocracy. This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them a good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017). Tyranny. A tyranny could be described as a government that would be ... When the disease arrived in New York City in summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks. Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease. Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease. Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment. Jones September 17, 2015 Georgia Perimeter College Decatur Introduction The osmolarity of a solution is the concentration measured of a solute. To determine the concentration of a solution, one must first understand what osmosis is and how it works. Osmosis is the spontaneous passage or diffusion of water or other solvents through a semipermeable membrane according to the Britannica Encyclopedia. The semipermeable membrane is one that blocks the passages of dissolved substances such as solutes. This process, in more recent times, provides a more accurate study of how water can diffuse across a cell membrane when water molecules have a high concentration to an area in which they have a low concentration. It was originally studied in 1877 by plant physiologist, Wilhelm, Pfeffer. (Britannica Encyclopedia 2015). Osmosis is described in one of three ways when comparing more than one solution. The cell s external and internal environment helps determine tonicity, which is defined as how the cell reacts to its environment. When the cell s environment is equal in osmolarity to itself and there is no change, it is considered an isotonic solution. When the environment has a higher osmolarity, shrinkage occurs and it is considered a hypertonic solution. When the environment has a lower osmolarity, swellings occurs and it is considered hypotonic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Other kids had to help take care of their families. The government allowed child labor because it brought success into the economy. Children had tons of energy, they were susceptible, or gullible, and they lacked the ability to revolt against injustices (child labor). • 41. The Differences Of The English Common Law And Civil Law Relocating to Germany would mean that the business must consider how the different law systems will affect them as a business, therefore they must establish the differences between English common law and the civil law. The English common law is set based on decisions made by the higher courts, judicial opinion and similar cases which is known as doctrine of Stare decisis while the civil law consists of a codified set of laws . The common law involves the judges making the decisions, setting the precedent, and controlling the conflict between the opposing parties. This differs to civil law as judges must apply the relevant law to the case and make a judgement based on that. The common law is built through judgements made from the higher courts instead of through statutes or written legislations, this common law system is mainly put into place for similar cases to receive fair and similar treatments. This means that judges follow how previously decided cases were treated based on their facts, this is known as judicial precedent. Hence why this is advantage as these opinions are developed and written at the end of trials which then are set as precedents to apply to similar cases in the future, this therefore means that individuals receive a fair and equal treatment. It also assists people with having a better idea on how their cases will be treated depending on the circumstances. For instance, R v R [1992] case where the defendant attempted to rape his wife, even though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. How Did Germany s Rise To World Power In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Germany s military thought they had a chance of becoming a world power, only if some sort of series of events had occurred which had given them a chance to show their potential. On June 28, 1924, the heir to the Austro Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand had been shot to death by a Serbian nationalist. This incident was used to justify declaring Slav nationalism, and soon this set off a rapid chain of events. Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany gave Austria Hungary consent to declare war on Serbia and promised to have their back if Serbia s ally Russia interfered. In the near future, more allies were made and more powers were brought into the war. Most people thought WWI started with Austria declaring war on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1806, Prussia s army had one of the most powerful army in the world. During this time, Napoleon I made many changes in German speaking lands such as freeing the serfs, making trade easier, and abolishing laws against Jews. However, German people started to fight to free their lands from French rule and started working toward a unified state, which gave rise to the Napoleonic wars. Prussia s army was not ready for the fight and they were destroyed two times by Napoleon I, once in Jena and the other in Auerstedt. This resulted in them making reforms such as raising more troops from the ages 25 40, and creating a general staff with militaristic intelligence. The general staff provided the Prussian Junkers with advantages such as new strategies, improved training for officers, advanced weaponary, and efficient ways of communication. In 1813, after the necessary reforms were made, the Prussian army fought many battles and conquered Napoleon I. • 45. - En-Side Effects Of Aboriginal Striation On The Gneiss The Granite rock is an intrusive rock that formed from magma coming from beneath the earth s surface. It went through a slow cooling process that allowed the minerals; mainly quartz and feldspar to form where the result is the coarse texture. The granite went through hydrothermal metamorphism (involves hot fluid) and contact metamorphism. The gneiss, however, being able to withstand high temperatures came from a large country rock. This piece of gneiss broke off from the country rock and got trapped in between as the granite cooled. The gneiss then became the xenolith. This shows that the granite is the younger rock and the gneiss the older. The striations on the Gneiss were caused by faults. A slick en side fault caused the horizontal striations ... • 46. The Human Resources Department Of An Organization Or... 1. Please briefly explain why you chose to interview this person: I ended up interviewing Jennifer Noonan who works in the Human Resources Student Employment Department in University Housing. I choose to interview her because I work in housing and I was able to get in contact with her fairly easily. I also hope to work in the field of Management and Human resources, so I wanted to interview someone in that field to get a sense of what the career entails. 2. What are at least four things you learned from your informational interview about your contact s career path/job responsibilities, employer, and/or industry? Jennifer explained to me the basic role of the human resources department of an organization or corporation. I learned that it s one of the most important aspects of a business, because they are the ones who make sure all of the other departments are running as efficient as possible. Helping with the hiring process of new employees is something I didn t know HR is a part of, and they help hiring managers find the best possible candidates and make sure everything is in place for their future employment. Jennifer also informed me that the role of HR is constantly changing, and the old stereotypes of HR being the sticklers or the mean people is slowly changing. Human resources job is to follow and enforce the rules of the government and corporation, and that s why they were always portrayed negatively. 3. Collaborative, Trustworthy, Inspiring, ... • 47. Irony In Tamburlaine The foolish king becomes a subject for laughter for his ironical thundering speech. The same irony can be noticed in Cosroe s alliance with Tamburlaine. After they have defeated Mycetes, Tamburlaine challenges Cosroe. The newly crowned king of Persia responds: What means this devilish shepherd to aspire With such a giantly presumption, To cast up hills against the face of heaven, And dare the force of angry Jupiter? But as he thrust them underneath the hills, And pressed out fire from their burning jaws, So will I send this monstrous slave to hell, Where flames shall ever feed upon his soul. And such are objects fit for Tamburlaine, Wherein, as in a mirror, may be seen His honor, that consists in shedding blood When men presume to manage arms with him. (p.28) Tamburlaine says that the deaths of Zabina and Bajazeth are mirrors that reflect his honour, much to his please. Their deaths reflect more honour on themselves than on Tamburlaine. Earlier in Act V, Tamburlaine, when attacking a city, has ordered the deaths of four virgins sent to him to plead for Damascus. This is his habit to give a city that he attacks two days to decide to surrender. On the third day, if no surrender is coming, he destroys the city. On the third day of the siege of Damascus, the four virgins are sent out in hopes that their innocence can persuade Tamburlaine to spare the city. He asks them what they see on the point of his sword and, when they answer that they see fear and steel, Tamburlaine says, Your fearful minds are thick and misty then, For there sit Death; there sits imperious Death, Keeping his circuit by the slicing edge.
