Biography of Musician Lou Reed
My mother was born in 1950 in Brooklyn; she grew up with Beatle mania and after medical school
moved to Greenwich Village to live amongst the beatniks. Thus, growing up listening to The Beatles,
The Who, and The Rolling Stones, I knew one thing to be true: rock n roll. These bands have been
decisive parts of my transition to adulthood and have followed me throughout my life, coming in and
out like crashing waves. I have spent months listening solely to The Beatles in awe of their virtuosity,
hoping it will transfer to me. When I moved home back from South Carolina at the end of this
summer, I began to have a profound re obsession with The Velvet Underground. It seems everyone has
their story about how this band has influenced them, for me it was a few bars into Rock Roll. I
listened as a young girl to Lou Reed s lyrics: She started shakin to that fine fine music, You know her
life was saved by rock n roll. And I too, felt I found my salvation. The day Lou Reed died my heart
dropped. Sure, many of the idols in my record crate have come and gone (Harrison, Hendrix, Cobain),
but this felt different. I never experienced the actual pain of their death as it had already happen when
I begun to listen to their music. Heroin, a song that had always represented obsession and being a
slave to passion, was suddenly altered after a friend of mine had died from an overdose last year. I
stared out the window of the train as I was going into the city and found myself beginning to

Difference Between Classical Music And Classical Period
Introduction:
The classical period was called the age of enlightenment and had lasted since 1750 till 1820. It
contrasted the Renaissance and Baroque periods, because composers were able to express about their
emotions and problems within their artworks. The artwork that was created then was unique and new.
The classical period s music was mainly dominated by three composers: Franz Joseph Haydn (1732
1809), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 1791), and Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 1827).
1. Symphony:
A. Definition:
A symphony is a musical piece which is divided into four movements played by an orchestra.
B. Overview and history:
In the beginning of 18th century, many orchestra performances were private events funded by wealthy
aristocrats, however, by the mid eighteenth century, public concerts which were funded by ticket sales
became popular for middle class audiences to watch. Such concerts contained many singers,
instrumental soloists, and other musical acts. Though, the big opener of a public concert was usually a
symphony. The symphony became one of the Classical period s most popular musical genres. Nearly
every Classical composer wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A symphony consists of four movements which each movement is made up of a different forms with a
wide range of melody, harmony, rhythm, and even dynamics. The first movement is usually an
opening sonata which is fast, the second is in a slow form of adagio, and the third is dance related or
in a waltz meter, and at last the fourth one was and still is considered to be the lively finale sonata
which is in allegro form, an example is Beethoven s Ninth Symphony. A symphony has a pause in
between each movement, which never has an applause, due to its strict audience etiquette. For during
the past, there used to be a symphony police in order to regulate and manage the

Coca Cola s Annual Report Form Essay
Coca Cola is the number one non alcoholic beverage company in the world (Coca Cola Company,
2016). Even though it is considered one of the most famous brands in the world, it is always trying to
differentiate themselves from their competitors such as Pepsi Corporation, Dr. Pepper Snapple, and
Monster Beverages (Hoovers, 2016). In the article Coca Cola Brews Up Big Plans for U.S. by Jay
Moye, states, Recently, Coca Cola has announced that they will soon produce, distribute, and market a
line of Dunkin Donuts brand iced coffee beverages, which will be sold in grocery stores, convenience
stores, and in Dunkin Donuts restaurants (Moye, 2016). This is will be a disadvantage for their
competitor Monster Inc. because Coca Cola plans to steal its customers who have a high demand for
energy/caffeine. This new announcement has Coca Cola hoping they will attract coffee lovers by
marketing and promoting these new products. Coca Cola s 2015 Annual Report Form states, The
aggregate amount of funds provided by our Company to bottlers, resellers or other customers of our
Company s products, principally for participation in promotional and marketing programs, was $6.8
billion in 2015 (Coca Cola Company, 2015). It has been determined that Coca Cola goes above and

Universal Suffrage repose in the result of all adult citizens are allowed to vote. Still, to have the right

Chemical-Induced Toxicity
Chemical induced organ and tissue toxicity is a worldwide health concern. Liver toxicity, because of
the primary role of the liver in the metabolism, detoxification, and elimination of xenobiotics, caused
by the exposure to the growing number of chemical toxicants in the form of agricultural, industrial,
and pharmaceutical products and food components, additives, and contaminants is the most common
organ injury [1 3]. Toxicant associated liver injury has been associated with a broad spectrum of liver
pathologies ranging from acute necrosis to several types of chronic pathological states, including
simple hepatic steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), toxic liver fibrosis, and cirrhosis [1,3].
Furthermore, some toxicants may act as carcinogens causing the development of cancer not only in
the liver, but in other human organs and tissues as well [4,5]. This indicates that detecting, evaluating,
and predicting the potential human risk posed by chemicals continues to remain of great importance.

The first approach is based on the use of the genomic technologies to discover sets of genes that may
be chemical specific and distinctive to organ injury [3,4,6]. The second approach is based on

advantages and limitations; however, none of the recent biomarkers identified by either of these two
methodologies have been able to demonstrate enough specificity and sensitivity in detection of liver

Waves Of Debates Within Feminism
Gender 208
Assignment 1: Waves of Debates within Feminism
Feminism, in simple terms, refers to a collective desire to end the oppression of women. Because
oppression takes various forms and affects those who are victim to it in a number of different, yet
often connected ways; feminism should accordingly be regarded as a multifaceted set of movements
working towards multiple aims and ends. Which is to say that feminism is less a single movement
concerned with the oppression of women, and more a gathering of movements concerned with a
number of oppressive structures, working towards the eradication of domination period. Analysing the
works of Mimi Mariuncci (2010), Audre Lorde (1984), and Rosemarie Garland Thomson (2002) this
paper will attempt to answer the question of why intersectionality is imperative to feminist discourse
and Praxis, exploring the different areas in which the oppression of women interests with the
oppression, marginalisation, and suppression of other minority groups, i.e. queer people, people of
colour, people with disabilities, old people, poor people, transgendered, and gender non conforming
people etc.
In the pursuit of inclusivity and intersectionality feminist discourse has been tasked with
acknowledging and addressing all forms of oppression as a logic of domination. A theory coined by
ecofeminist philosopher Karen Warren which refers to a way of understanding and communicating
with the world, and it s inhabitants, in a way that is structured

Fair Use Violation
According to Halbert Ingulli (2012) fair use is the right to use limited portions of copyrighted work,
without permission for the owner (p.324). For example, when an individual uses a music video for a
product review for shoes, you want a video so the individual s can upload that video for their review.
The video viewed doesn t replace the shoe product. However the owner s rights are not affected at all
because the individual s right to use the copyrighted video would be acceptable under fair use. The fair
use limit use of copyrighted material without the individual getting permission from the owner.
Copyright laws were established not to give the author the right to deny their work to other people, but
instead to encourage its creation (Halbert Ingulli, 2012, p.324). One example of music sharing files is
the case of Sony BMG Music Entertainment V. Tennenbaum (Halbert Ingulli, p.324). ... Show more

The Department Of Homeland Security Made Us Safer
Has the Department of Homeland Security Made Us Safer?
As one of the greatest power houses in the world, the United States has attempted to keep warfare on
foreign soil rather than stateside. Doing so was a lot easier when war was fought between two
different countries, but nowadays, the main source of conflict around the world comes from small
bands of people who reside, not in one country or place, but spread throughout the world.
Traditionally military servicemen would wear some type of camouflage utilities and would be
carrying their rifles at the ready in case of any contact. Combat has dramatically changed and has
made it extremely harder to distinguish enemy from friendly or natural forces. Bombs are created to
be worn under cloths, IEDs (or improvised Explosive Devices) are hidden under roadways, and in my
opinion, war has become more of a cowardice game hide and seek. This shift in combat strategies has
made keeping warfare away from the homeland harder and harder. After the Attacks on the United
States on 11 September 2105, the government created the Department of Homeland Security in order
to protect our nation from further attacks.
The proposal to create the department of Homeland Security was created in the early months of 2002
and officially became an Act of congress later that same year. The department opened its doors and
two months later and Tom Ridge, a Pennsylvania Governor, was appointed to be the first director of
DHS (the Department of Homeland

The Grapes Of Wrath By John Ford
The Grapes of Wrath
John Ford s film The Grapes of Wrath (1940) is set in black and white during the Great Depression. It
tells the story of a family being expelled from their home in Oklahoma; Not only by the bank and big
business but by nature itself. The family being forced off their land causing them to be dependent on
each other in order to survive supports the theme of familial survival and human dignity. The essential
aspects of The Grapes of Wrath are family and the fight to survive while still holding on to what
dignity they have left. The film starts off with the son (Tom Joad) hoping to make his way back home
to his family. He gets a ride from a truck driver and continues on to stumble upon the old family
preacher (Casey). (1)During the conversation between Tom and Casey, Casey tells Tom, I m not a
preacher anymore , and throughout the film we will hear him say this repeatedly. We can start to see
the change in his dignity as a human more when the story progresses on. The two men head towards
Tom s family home and it is not what Tom was expecting. As the two men look around the house to
see if anyone was there they find Muley, a farmer and a friend of the family. Muley tells the men what
has been happening and that Tom s family had been forced off their land like everyone else. (2) As we
listen to Muley talk about how the bank and big businesses were forcing people off their land we are
introduced to conflict which is trying to survive while keeping some

Lord Of The West Wind, By Percy Shelley
Nature is a source of inspiration for each poet from which they determine imagery, emphasizing its
symbolic meaning and part as a powerful force in human life. Percy Shelley s Ode to the West Wind
and John Keats To Autumn are fixated on nature. Shelley addresses nature in majority of his poems
climatically, according to his spontaneous and momentary response, while Keats turns to
contemplation due to his personal suffering. Both poets are impacted by the seasonal process in nature
which ushers them into the temperament of transition and aging. However, both of them differently
perceive the same natural manifestations. In Percy Shelley s Ode to the West Wind considers the
subject of cyclic regeneration through the depiction of nature. Shelley watches the destructive changes
in nature created by the autumnal wind with a desire for the following spring and revival. In the
seasonal process he sees a typical model for conceivable revolutionary changes both in his own life
and in the current social and political structure of his nation. The usage of nature demonstrates Shelley
s gratefulness towards beauty and the natural world. His Ode to the West Wind fundamentally engages
the dynamic brilliant power of the west wind to issue him that vitality which has the capacity to
change the world. He describes how powerful the wind is and communicates his poem in a shrewd
method that paints readers a picture of how great and amazing the wind can be. Through the utilization

Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay
improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3]. REM
and slow wave sleep
(SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5].
Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative memory
consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed similar initial
procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults performance did not
improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory consolidation decreases with age
[8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep
increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing
by more than
60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal
sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the majority
of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is a key
symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11].
Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to
twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning
assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an
interval of sleep, as well as with

How Kitchenaid Is An American Home Appliance Brand Owned...
When you come home for the holidays, Mom is in the kitchen baking all the festive goodies. Chances
are she has her KitchenAid Mixer pulled out of the cupboard and is in the middle of dumping all the
delicious ingredients into it to create the perfect pie. KitchenAid is an American home appliance brand
owned by Whirlpool Corporation. The company was started in 1919 by The Hobart Corporation to
produce stand mixers. An entire kitchen of high performance appliances were created all with the
same attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, versatile technology and design. The KitchenAid
Mixer has turned into a timeless classic. It still remains the Cadillac, or BMW, of food preparation
appliances. The KitchenAid story begins when Herbert Johnson, he was an engineer at the Hobart
Corporation. Herbert observed a baker hard at work, mixing his bread by hand, and then he has the
idea and decided that there must be a better way. They introduced an 80 quart commercial baking
dough mixer in 1915 on which he had worked since 1908. He set out to develop an automatic mixer
and in 1914, Hobart released the 60 quart industrial H5. The H5 eventually made its way into every
ship kitchen in the US Navy. They then introduced a 65 pound domestic version in 1919, named the
Model H the KitchenAid when a housewife tester commented, I don t care what you call it, but I know
it s the best kitchen aid I have ever had. It was sold door to door for $189 and was on the market until

Effective Knowledge Sharing Process And Procedure For...
Introduction
The purpose is to identify the enablers of the effective knowledge sharing with constraints of different
work shifts. In the organization, face to face interaction was difficult to share the tacit knowledge with
people working in 2 different shifts (11:30 AM to 8:00 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM). This case study is
focused on knowledge sharing process and procedure to train and prepare the new work force to work
individually.
Hays Business Solutions is the subsidiary of the Hays Inc which primarily deals with the recruitment.
Hays Inc is operational in 33 countries. HBS was formed to provide the IT technical solutions and
support to the recruitment process. In November 2015, HBS commenced the US shift to provide the
online support services to the customers in US. As part of the strategic plan, 11 new members were
hired to specifically work for the night shift. These peoples were provided the training sessions to fit
in their respective roles.
Objective
The Objective of this case study is to identify and understand the enabler for the organization s
performance, and to develop the integrated Model to represent the scenario for the firm. This case
study also aims to help identify the misconduct and the inappropriate practices and to suggest the
solution for the knowledge creation and analysis of the counter measures taken by the firm after facing
this problem.
Methodology
In this report efforts are made to create an integrated model where enablers are the input and the

Worship As A Form Of Worship In The Church
Church bells ring, it is time for Sunday School. Children and teenagers sit in classrooms scattered
throughout a church, Grace Church of the Nazarene. Bibles are either on the tables or in the children
and teenagers laps as they begin class. The Sunday School teacher, Bible in hand, begins the class and
starts out asking, How do you define worship? The children and teens begin to stare at each other or
look down at their hands in silence as the teacher waits for them to ponder the question more. After a
few minutes a brave soul raises his hand, slowly but surely. The teacher, relieved the silence is about
to be broken, calls upon him. The child responds with, Is it when we sing in big church? The teacher,
smiling largely, informs the child that singing in big church is part of worship, but is not the only form
of worship.
Today children and teenagers are asked the question above a lot in church and typically answer the
same way the child did. Although that may be the main answer they give that is only a portion of what
worship is. Worship is the act of honoring God. Whether it is through singing in big church or doing
chores at home, if one is honoring God it is worship. Merriam Webster defines worship as a form of
religious practice with its creed and ritual, and extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an
object of esteem. Putting both definitions of worship together it would be defined as honoring an
object God in this case and being devoted to

Emergent Literacy
EMERGENT LITERACY
Emergent literacy is used to describe how a young child interacts with books and when reading and
writing, even though they could not read or write in the usual sense of way. Emergent literacy is a
process that takes place over the timeframe from birth until a child can read and write in what we
think to be a standard sense. The key to term literacy is the consistency of all parts of language:
speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. Some people believe that, up until a child starts
school he/she will first learn to read and then learn to write. The process to learning to read and write

Comparing Parents In The Glass Menagerie By James Williams
My parents love to live vicariously through me, especially my mother, and while I understand their
inclination to do this, it can make them a bit controlling of my actions. Williams exhibits in The Glass
Menagerie the damaging effects of overbearing parents on the mental and emotional growth of their
children. In the play, the mother inhibits the development of her children because she tries to control
her children s lives, which takes away the ability to become independent and focus on personal needs.
Amanda treats Laura like a child and constantly makes decisions for her, and she and keeps him from
enjoying his life. Amanda belittles Laura s self ownership which makes Laura immature and helpless
as an adult. When the subject of gentleman callers comes up, Amanda addresses Laura, saying, How
many do you suppose we re going to entertain this afternoon? [...] [reappearing, airily] What? No one
not one? You must be joking! [Laura nervously echoes her laugh] (Williams 18). Amanda is caught up
in her dreams of marriage for Laura, made clear by her enthusiastic tone and body language, but Laura
s uncomfortable laugh shows how she is not amused by her mother s aspirations. Amanda is only
focused on what she wants for Laura, but she should really be concerned with what Laura wants for
herself. In addition, Amanda cannot accept the fact that her daughter is not going to have any suitors;
she denies reality and tries to bring Laura into her world of illusions. This irresponsible parenting
causes Laura to become the childish adult that she is. When Amanda questions where Laura was going
instead of business college, Laura explains that, I went in the art museum and the bird houses at the
Zoo. I visited the penguins every day! [...] Lately I ve been spending most of my afternoons in the
Jewel Box, that big glass house where they raise the tropical flowers (21). Laura is twenty three years
old and she is getting excited about visiting attractions meant for kids. She would rather explore the
Zoo, an art museum, or a greenhouse than attend college, exhibiting her immature and irresponsible
mindset. This juvenile behavior is what leads to Laura s helplessness. While on the fire escape,
Amanda tells Laura to make a

Plant Hormones
Plant hormones are specialized chemical substances produced by plants. They are the main internal
factors controlling growth and development. Hormones are produced in one part of a plant and
transported to others, where they are effective in very small amounts. Depending on the target tissue, a
given hormone may have different effects.
Plant hormones play an integral role in controlling the growth and development of plants. A plant
hormone is generally described as an organic compound synthesized in one part of the plant and
translocated to another part, where in low concentrations elicits a physiological response.
There are five generally recognized classes of plant hormones; some of the classes are represented by
only one compound, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been over 90 GA s isolated, all of which are most likely not essential to the plant. Instead,
these forms are probably inactive precursors or breakdown products of active gibberellins.
Function:
Active gibberellins show many physiological effects, each depending on the type of gibberellin
present as well as the species of plant. Some of the physiological processes stimulated by gibberellins
are:
1. Stimulate stem elongation by stimulating cell division and elongation.
2. Stimulates bolting/flowering in response to long days.
3. Breaks seed dormancy in some plants which require stratification or light to induce germination.
4. Stimulates enzyme production (a amylase) in germinating cereal grains for mobilization of seed
reserves.
5. Induces maleness in dioecious flowers (sex expression).
6. Can cause parthenocarpic (seedless) fruit development.
7. Can delay senescence in leaves and citrus fruits.
Cytokinins: Nature of Cytokinins
Cytokinins are compounds with a structure resembling adenine which promote cell division and have
other similar functions to kinetin. Kinetin was the first cytokinin discovered and so named because of
the compounds ability to promote cytokinesis. Though it is a natural compound, It is not made in
plants, and is therefore usually considered a synthetic cytokinin (meaning that the hormone is

Quotes From The Return Of Martin Guerre
Marriage and Meaning
Haley Wagner In 16th century France marriage is not seen as a bond between two people that love
each other. It is instead seen as a man and wife being arranged together as one to assume duties of
gender roles such as the woman having children and taking care of the house, fields, children, and
husband. The man assumes the role of working and passing on family traditions such as working the
land and tending to livestock. Martin Guerre and Bertrande go through the exact same custom except
Bertrande is not an everyday 16th century woman. She is independent and does not want to conform
to customs she does not wholeheartedly agree with. So when Martin Guerre leaves, Bertrande sees his

Even in a time of conflict Bertrande and Arnaud pursue their passion for one another by physically
showing that they care for each other. When Arnaud is released from prison for a short time Davis
states, She gives him a white shirt, washes his feet, and receives him back into her bed ( Davis, 44).
Davis emphasizes that even though Arnaud is on death row that Bertrande risks her reputation by
continuing to care for Arnaud. Bertrande knows what is at stake and she looks past that to care for her
lover. Arnaud returns the favor to Bertrande when he is in court being questioned about Bertrande s
involvement. Davis explains his display of love by stating, Before the court he addresses her gently ;
he puts his life in her hands by saying that if she swears that he is not her husband he will submit to a
thousand cruel deaths (Davis, 46). Arnaud is saying to kill him a thousand times if his love will not
acknowledge him to be her husband. He is stating that he would rather die than to know she does not
accept him as her other half. This display of love really shows how truly passionate Arnaud and
Bertrande were towards each other and shows that despite conflict their love is

Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example
Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In England,
William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on paper. This
medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art today.
Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the artists eye,
it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon
seeing an early photograph from now on, painting is dead! (Sayre, 2000). Many critics did not take
photography seriously as a legitimate art form until the 20th century. With ... Show more content on

Adams decision to be a full time photographer changed the photographic visions of the west. He spent
his time in National parks photographing the immense beauty of nature in these national treasures.
Adams formed a group with other San Francisco photographers in 1932 called f/64, referring to the
smallest aperture opening on a camera lens (Gray, 1994). The group concentrated on form and texture.
The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995).
In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. Six years later, his Zone System was
formulated. The Zone System introduced a way for the professional and amateur photographers to

Adams felt a sense of duty to share his knowledge of nature and photography. [Adams] was master

A Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition
SCADA/ Stuxnet Worm A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system consists of
both hardware and software that collects critical information to keep a facility operating (Johnson
Merkow, 2011, p. 227). SCADA system vulnerabilities include the lack of monitoring, slow updates,
lack of knowledge about devices, not understanding traffic, and authentication holes (Adams, 2015).
When an organization doesn t monitor the network, it makes it impossible to notice suspicious
activity. System updates are a very important part of protecting against vulnerabilities, even though it
may be seen as an inconvenience. The lack of knowledge about the devices is somewhat due to the
fact that the SCADA systems change over time. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This put other organizations that used equipment from the same SCADA system supplier in jeopardy.
It also raised awareness of possible collateral damage (Chung, 2013). The Stuxnet worm infected a
significant amount of computers. Additionally, it changed part of the security infrastructure of the
United States. Stuxnet didn t prove that cyber attacks are low risk operations. Rather, it suggests that
the effects, and thus the risks, of cyber attacks are unpredictable (Manzo, 2013) . There are vulnerable
computer networks and systems that support U.S. economic activities, military capabilities, and
societal services such as critical infrastructure (Manzo, 2013). U.S. officials came to the conclusion
that the effects and risks of the Stuxnet operation were proportionate to the payoffs, other countries
might reach similar conclusions about cyber attacks against the United States (Manzo, 2013).
Improving cyber defenses, attribution capabilities, and developing credible retaliatory options will
play an important role in deterring and mitigating direct cyber attacks, but cascading viruses launched
at other countries could eventually penetrate and damage U.S. networks (Manzo, 2013) . ICS CERT

There, he sought more education, and opted to further his intellectual career. Years later in 1536,
Institutes of the Christian Religion, was released by Calvin himself in Basel, Switzerland.6 To this
day, it remains one of the most important and influential literary works regarding theology. This piece
also made Calvin known as a key follower of Protestantism. His theory of epistemology is based on
his belief that humans are naturally aware of God. He also asserts two fundamental knowledges God
and self and he elaborates upon the relationship between the two.7
How is it possible to know anything at all? Theologians and philosophers across the ages have
contemplated, debated, and wrote about this timeless question. There have been many proposed
theories, and many still exist while others have been modified, or totally abandoned. As Christians, we
like to use God as the answer for everything we do not understand, so one might respond, God allows
us to know things. Okay, yes, in a sense, because He is absolutely sovereign, so anything at all that
ever occurs happens with his permission.8 While this simplistic answer may be enough for the

Examine and Assess the Influence of Other People on Human...
Option B essay question
Examine and assess the influence of other people on human behaviour and performance.
This essay will examine and assess the influence of other people on human behaviour and
performance, starting with Adorno et al (1950) s large scale study on the authoritarian personality with
it s focus on the parental and family influence as well as alternative explanations, including evidence
that multiple factors influence the formation of authoritarianism. It will then go on to examine the
influence of peers in friendship choices and the significance of cultural differences as explored by
Gonzalez et al (2004) in today s technologically advanced society. Finally, the essay will use the
research done by Loftus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of different cultural values as an external factor in shaping people s behaviour was
explored by Gonzalez et al (2004) whereby they asked 300 Cuban and 294 Canadian teenagers to
write an essay describing the features they look for in their best friend. Cuba and Canada were chosen
for their different cultural characteristics of collectivism (Cuban culture is focussed on values of
interdependence and harmonious relationships) and individualism (Canadian culture is focussed on
values of independence and individual achievement) and the results were compared. Basic values of
genuineness and trustworthiness were common expectations for friendship in both countries but
cultural differences were noted between the two, for example the Cuban adolescents prioritised mutual
support in contrast to the Canadian responses of common shared interests, which Brownlow (2010, p
260) quotes reflected many aspects of the cultural values of the society within which the adolescents
grew up , showing that as well as the influence of other people, culture has a significant role to play in
shaping human behaviour. However, cultural variations are no barrier to friendship with the advent of
new technologies like the internet which is transforming human behaviour and interaction. The
massive popularity of online social networking sites, where traditional face to face interaction and
geographical closeness do not appear to be such important factors, many Western

Zoot Suit Movie Analysis
Zoot Suit is about a gang of boys that were in the wrong area at the wrong time. Henry, is the leader of
the 36th gang. Which includes: Smiley, Rudy, Tommy, and Joey. To start it off, Henry got jumped by
the downey gang while Della witnessed it. Della and Henry then left to get the rest of their gang to go
back. They went to the party, but the Downey Gang had already left. The people that were still there
thought they were the Downey Gang coming back to cause more trouble, so they attacked them right
away. They were then convicted of the murder of Jose Diaz, who was there that night and got killed.
Two lawyers named Alice and George, thought their trial was wrongfully convicted. So they went to
battle for the boys named Smiley, Henry,Tommy and Joey. They wanted them to have justice because
they knew they were not the ones who commited the crime. The judge was wrongfully accusing them
because they wore zoot suits.
The book Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez was made into a film. In the movie, the scenes are out of order, in
an attempt to help the viewer understand better. Also, because it pushes the narrative forward, and
keeps the viewer engaged. Some scenes are not as important as others, so they were cut from the film.
For instance, the three scenes that were changed in the film, were changed from the book to help the
reader understand better. The play and the film are completely different. They have similarities but the
biggest difference is that the film jumps back and forth

The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz Essay
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler is the tale of a young greedy boy who feels
that money is his path to happiness and pride. Duddy simply stomps all over his friends and his family
as well (to a certain extent). Richler feels unreserved sympathy towards Duddy because, in essence,
Duddy is Richler written down and diversified. Duddy is a character based on Mordecai s own
personality.
Duddy Kravitz is a crook, a blackmailer and a cheat. However, Duddy Kravitz is Richler s crook and
Duddy will never be abandoned. In The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, everyone but the Richler
himself shuns Duddy. The entire concept of the novel was for Duddy to learn an important lesson,
what makes someone significant. The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duddy s character is not often sympathized. However, Richler somehow finds a way to incorporate
compassion. Although the reader does not feel that he should be feeling for Duddy, the way Richler
writes makes the reader feel heartless. Even when the reader does not want to be happy for Duddy, the
written words indicate that a pride for Duddy should be present. For example, even after all the harm
Duddy has caused, the last lines in the book still point toward happiness for the character. That s all
right sir. We ll mark it. And suddenly Duddy did smile. He laughed. He grabbed Max, hugged him,
and spun him around. You see, he said, his voice filled with marvel. You see. Right in that very
sentence a sort of pride arose from the book to the reader even though any reader with a conscience
realizes that this is not something to be blissful about.
Duddy eventually does become someone of somewhat significance save for going about it in a
completely shameful way with partial reference above. Although Duddy is attempting to please his
grandfather, the way Duddy conducts himself to get to a position that would be gratifying to his
grandfather are appalling. Perhaps Richler had made comparable errors in his own youth. This book is
almost like a personal account of ones own self pity and reassurance. Richler definitely has a major
soft spot for Duddy (just as he does for

Universal Health Care Essay
The United States and Universal Health Care: Should the U.S. Make the Switch? The United States
has one of the largest, most complex health care systems in the world. Although the U.S. is among the
wealthiest nations in the world, it is far from the healthiest and falls behind other developed nations in
terms of healthcare. Mexico and the United States are the only members of the Organization for
Economic Co operation and Development (OECD), which has 34 members in total, which do not have

The United States should switch to a universal health care system to make health care more accessible
to its citizens, improve health conditions, and make it so that medicine and treatment is more
affordable for everyone regardless of their social status. Universal health coverage ensures that all
people use the health services they need, of adequate quality to be effective, while also ensuring that
the services provided are affordable ( What is Universal Coverage? 2015). France, Germany, Italy, The
United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and Russia all have universal health care. This means that the United
States is the only industrialized nation that does not provide all its citizens with health care. With
universal health care, countries provide their inhabitants with basic healthcare services as long as they
are citizens. No one can be denied healthcare in these countries regardless of their social status (
Universal Health Care Coverage Definition | Investopedia 2011). In the United States, the healthcare
system is much different. Facilities are mainly owned and operated by the private business sector
which causes the price of treatment and medical visits to be higher than those in countries who have
hospitals and insurance run by the government. For example, the United Kingdom in which Health
care and health policy for England is the responsibility of the central government, whereas in
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland it

Analysis Of Schuman s Speech
The Schuman Declaration is the foundation of the European project that we live in today. In his
speech on 9 May, 1950, Robert Schuman proposed to pool France and Germany s Coal and Steel
production together for the greater purpose to create peace and safeguard Europe. For some it came as
a surprise because only five years passed since devastating World War II came to an end. Withal, it
gives room for interpretation and speculations. Therefore, this paper will analyse the real motivation
of Robert Schuman whether his intentions were primary to secure peace in Europe or whether, he had
something different and lower intentions in mind.

provides enough credibility for the idea of the ECSC. Withal, the reader should not completely

Reflection In Society
Have you ever wondered what it s like to live in the shoes of someone who s autistic or has extreme
social anxiety? Either of these things can make functioning in society very difficult, but not
impossible. At least that s what I believe, some people disagree with that. The author seems to believe
that is impossible to function in society if either of these things affect you. It is possible to function in
society, it just takes a lot of patience and practice. Haddon portrays that if you are suffering from
autism, then you can t function in society at all. He makes it so that Christopher doesn t liked being
touched by people so much, that he ll scream or hit someone if he s touched. No matter what affects
you, this is the behavior of a child. On page 8 it says The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted
me onto my feet. I didn t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him. Yes people with
autism have a harder time functioning in society, but at the age Christopher is, he should know that
you can t just hit people when they touch you. On page 137 it says So I got out my Swiss Army knife
and I flicked out the saw blade and I held it tightly in the pocket that Toby wasn t in so that I could
stab someone if they grabbed hold of me, . This is a very dangerous thing to do, if Christopher does
pull out his knife on someone, then he could get in a lot of trouble. This is an extreme reaction to
someone just touching him, it s very childish. In the book

Where Is The Line Between Depression And Being Depressed...
Where is the Line Between Having Depression and Being Depressed ?
I remember it well, the first time I thought I had depression. I was 17. My psychology textbook had
innocently listed the symptoms of clinical depression, and I read them with increasing fervour, the
cogs in my mind whirring and clicking into place. This is me! I thought, my obviously fully developed
adult brain making proper conclusions. Equal feelings of dread and relief settled into the pit of my
stomach. Despite my knowledge that psychology students have a tendency to incorrectly self
diagnose, this was my reality for the six years separating now and then. I maintained this belief
through a detrimental concoction of confirmation bias and self fulfilling prophecies.
Countless times I ve sat, mindless gaze fixed on the wall, eyes brimming with silent, slow tears. The
void opens in my chest, I reach for my phone, then stop, with the helpless hesitation of one who truly
believes that none of her friends will care. You are useless, my mind whispers. You are worthless. I
stare listlessly at stucco ceilings, white and blank and empty; I hide within the folds of duvet covers; I
wither within a trench of self pity. The insidious beast settles in, to either destroy my relationships or
render me useless in any endeavour. But, once the storm passes, I am myself again ostensibly flatline
but not necessarily depressed.
Over the years my experience has not continued to be so bleak, though, and I discovered in my

  • 2. Biography of Musician Lou Reed My mother was born in 1950 in Brooklyn; she grew up with Beatle mania and after medical school moved to Greenwich Village to live amongst the beatniks. Thus, growing up listening to The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones, I knew one thing to be true: rock n roll. These bands have been decisive parts of my transition to adulthood and have followed me throughout my life, coming in and out like crashing waves. I have spent months listening solely to The Beatles in awe of their virtuosity, hoping it will transfer to me. When I moved home back from South Carolina at the end of this summer, I began to have a profound re obsession with The Velvet Underground. It seems everyone has their story about how this band has influenced them, for me it was a few bars into Rock Roll. I listened as a young girl to Lou Reed s lyrics: She started shakin to that fine fine music, You know her life was saved by rock n roll. And I too, felt I found my salvation. The day Lou Reed died my heart dropped. Sure, many of the idols in my record crate have come and gone (Harrison, Hendrix, Cobain), but this felt different. I never experienced the actual pain of their death as it had already happen when I begun to listen to their music. Heroin, a song that had always represented obsession and being a slave to passion, was suddenly altered after a friend of mine had died from an overdose last year. I stared out the window of the train as I was going into the city and found myself beginning to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Difference Between Classical Music And Classical Period Introduction: The classical period was called the age of enlightenment and had lasted since 1750 till 1820. It contrasted the Renaissance and Baroque periods, because composers were able to express about their emotions and problems within their artworks. The artwork that was created then was unique and new. The classical period s music was mainly dominated by three composers: Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 1809), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 1791), and Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 1827). 1. Symphony: A. Definition: A symphony is a musical piece which is divided into four movements played by an orchestra. B. Overview and history: In the beginning of 18th century, many orchestra performances were private events funded by wealthy aristocrats, however, by the mid eighteenth century, public concerts which were funded by ticket sales became popular for middle class audiences to watch. Such concerts contained many singers, instrumental soloists, and other musical acts. Though, the big opener of a public concert was usually a symphony. The symphony became one of the Classical period s most popular musical genres. Nearly every Classical composer wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it is considered one of the most famous brands in the world, it is always trying to differentiate themselves from their competitors such as Pepsi Corporation, Dr. Pepper Snapple, and Monster Beverages (Hoovers, 2016). • 6. Chemical-Induced Toxicity Chemical induced organ and tissue toxicity is a worldwide health concern. Liver toxicity, because of the primary role of the liver in the metabolism, detoxification, and elimination of xenobiotics, caused by the exposure to the growing number of chemical toxicants in the form of agricultural, industrial, and pharmaceutical products and food components, additives, and contaminants is the most common organ injury [1 3]. Toxicant associated liver injury has been associated with a broad spectrum of liver pathologies ranging from acute necrosis to several types of chronic pathological states, including simple hepatic steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), toxic liver fibrosis, and cirrhosis [1,3]. Furthermore, some toxicants may act as carcinogens causing the development of cancer not only in the liver, but in other human organs and tissues as well [4,5]. This indicates that detecting, evaluating, and predicting the potential human risk posed by chemicals continues to remain of great importance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Waves Of Debates Within Feminism Gender 208 Assignment 1: Waves of Debates within Feminism Feminism, in simple terms, refers to a collective desire to end the oppression of women. Because oppression takes various forms and affects those who are victim to it in a number of different, yet often connected ways; feminism should accordingly be regarded as a multifaceted set of movements working towards multiple aims and ends. Which is to say that feminism is less a single movement concerned with the oppression of women, and more a gathering of movements concerned with a number of oppressive structures, working towards the eradication of domination period. Analysing the works of Mimi Mariuncci (2010), Audre Lorde (1984), and Rosemarie Garland Thomson (2002) this paper will attempt to answer the question of why intersectionality is imperative to feminist discourse and Praxis, exploring the different areas in which the oppression of women interests with the oppression, marginalisation, and suppression of other minority groups, i.e. queer people, people of colour, people with disabilities, old people, poor people, transgendered, and gender non conforming people etc. In the pursuit of inclusivity and intersectionality feminist discourse has been tasked with acknowledging and addressing all forms of oppression as a logic of domination. A theory coined by ecofeminist philosopher Karen Warren which refers to a way of understanding and communicating with the world, and it s inhabitants, in a way that is structured ... • 8. Fair Use Violation According to Halbert Ingulli (2012) fair use is the right to use limited portions of copyrighted work, without permission for the owner (p.324). For example, when an individual uses a music video for a product review for shoes, you want a video so the individual s can upload that video for their review. The video viewed doesn t replace the shoe product. However the owner s rights are not affected at all because the individual s right to use the copyrighted video would be acceptable under fair use. The fair use limit use of copyrighted material without the individual getting permission from the owner. Copyright laws were established not to give the author the right to deny their work to other people, but instead to encourage its creation (Halbert Ingulli, 2012, p.324). One example of music sharing files is the case of Sony BMG Music Entertainment V. Tennenbaum (Halbert Ingulli, p.324). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Department Of Homeland Security Made Us Safer Has the Department of Homeland Security Made Us Safer? As one of the greatest power houses in the world, the United States has attempted to keep warfare on foreign soil rather than stateside. Doing so was a lot easier when war was fought between two different countries, but nowadays, the main source of conflict around the world comes from small bands of people who reside, not in one country or place, but spread throughout the world. Traditionally military servicemen would wear some type of camouflage utilities and would be carrying their rifles at the ready in case of any contact. Combat has dramatically changed and has made it extremely harder to distinguish enemy from friendly or natural forces. Bombs are created to be worn under cloths, IEDs (or improvised Explosive Devices) are hidden under roadways, and in my opinion, war has become more of a cowardice game hide and seek. This shift in combat strategies has made keeping warfare away from the homeland harder and harder. After the Attacks on the United States on 11 September 2105, the government created the Department of Homeland Security in order to protect our nation from further attacks. The proposal to create the department of Homeland Security was created in the early months of 2002 and officially became an Act of congress later that same year. The department opened its doors and two months later and Tom Ridge, a Pennsylvania Governor, was appointed to be the first director of DHS (the Department of Homeland ... • 10. The Grapes Of Wrath By John Ford The Grapes of Wrath John Ford s film The Grapes of Wrath (1940) is set in black and white during the Great Depression. It tells the story of a family being expelled from their home in Oklahoma; Not only by the bank and big business but by nature itself. The family being forced off their land causing them to be dependent on each other in order to survive supports the theme of familial survival and human dignity. The essential aspects of The Grapes of Wrath are family and the fight to survive while still holding on to what dignity they have left. The film starts off with the son (Tom Joad) hoping to make his way back home to his family. He gets a ride from a truck driver and continues on to stumble upon the old family preacher (Casey). (1)During the conversation between Tom and Casey, Casey tells Tom, I m not a preacher anymore , and throughout the film we will hear him say this repeatedly. We can start to see the change in his dignity as a human more when the story progresses on. The two men head towards Tom s family home and it is not what Tom was expecting. As the two men look around the house to see if anyone was there they find Muley, a farmer and a friend of the family. Muley tells the men what has been happening and that Tom s family had been forced off their land like everyone else. • 11. Lord Of The West Wind, By Percy Shelley Nature is a source of inspiration for each poet from which they determine imagery, emphasizing its symbolic meaning and part as a powerful force in human life. Percy Shelley s Ode to the West Wind and John Keats To Autumn are fixated on nature. Shelley addresses nature in majority of his poems climatically, according to his spontaneous and momentary response, while Keats turns to contemplation due to his personal suffering. Both poets are impacted by the seasonal process in nature which ushers them into the temperament of transition and aging. However, both of them differently perceive the same natural manifestations. In Percy Shelley s Ode to the West Wind considers the subject of cyclic regeneration through the depiction of nature. Shelley watches the destructive changes in nature created by the autumnal wind with a desire for the following spring and revival. In the seasonal process he sees a typical model for conceivable revolutionary changes both in his own life and in the current social and political structure of his nation. The usage of nature demonstrates Shelley s gratefulness towards beauty and the natural world. His Ode to the West Wind fundamentally engages the dynamic brilliant power of the west wind to issue him that vitality which has the capacity to change the world. He describes how powerful the wind is and communicates his poem in a shrewd method that paints readers a picture of how great and amazing the wind can be. Through the utilization of ... • 12. Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3]. REM and slow wave sleep (SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5]. Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative memory consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed similar initial procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults performance did not improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory consolidation decreases with age [8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing by more than 60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the majority of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is a key symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11]. Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an interval of sleep, as well as with delayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. How Kitchenaid Is An American Home Appliance Brand Owned... When you come home for the holidays, Mom is in the kitchen baking all the festive goodies. Chances are she has her KitchenAid Mixer pulled out of the cupboard and is in the middle of dumping all the delicious ingredients into it to create the perfect pie. KitchenAid is an American home appliance brand owned by Whirlpool Corporation. The company was started in 1919 by The Hobart Corporation to produce stand mixers. An entire kitchen of high performance appliances were created all with the same attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, versatile technology and design. The KitchenAid Mixer has turned into a timeless classic. It still remains the Cadillac, or BMW, of food preparation appliances. The KitchenAid story begins when Herbert Johnson, he was an engineer at the Hobart Corporation. Herbert observed a baker hard at work, mixing his bread by hand, and then he has the idea and decided that there must be a better way. They introduced an 80 quart commercial baking dough mixer in 1915 on which he had worked since 1908. He set out to develop an automatic mixer and in 1914, Hobart released the 60 quart industrial H5. The H5 eventually made its way into every ship kitchen in the US Navy. They then introduced a 65 pound domestic version in 1919, named the Model H the KitchenAid when a housewife tester commented, I don t care what you call it, but I know it s the best kitchen aid I have ever had. It was sold door to door for $189 and was on the market until 1927. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Worship As A Form Of Worship In The Church Church bells ring, it is time for Sunday School. Children and teenagers sit in classrooms scattered throughout a church, Grace Church of the Nazarene. Bibles are either on the tables or in the children and teenagers laps as they begin class. The Sunday School teacher, Bible in hand, begins the class and starts out asking, How do you define worship? The children and teens begin to stare at each other or look down at their hands in silence as the teacher waits for them to ponder the question more. After a few minutes a brave soul raises his hand, slowly but surely. The teacher, relieved the silence is about to be broken, calls upon him. The child responds with, Is it when we sing in big church? The teacher, smiling largely, informs the child that singing in big church is part of worship, but is not the only form of worship. Today children and teenagers are asked the question above a lot in church and typically answer the same way the child did. Although that may be the main answer they give that is only a portion of what worship is. Worship is the act of honoring God. Whether it is through singing in big church or doing chores at home, if one is honoring God it is worship. Merriam Webster defines worship as a form of religious practice with its creed and ritual, and extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem. • 17. Comparing Parents In The Glass Menagerie By James Williams My parents love to live vicariously through me, especially my mother, and while I understand their inclination to do this, it can make them a bit controlling of my actions. Williams exhibits in The Glass Menagerie the damaging effects of overbearing parents on the mental and emotional growth of their children. In the play, the mother inhibits the development of her children because she tries to control her children s lives, which takes away the ability to become independent and focus on personal needs. Amanda treats Laura like a child and constantly makes decisions for her, and she and keeps him from enjoying his life. Amanda belittles Laura s self ownership which makes Laura immature and helpless as an adult. When the subject of gentleman callers comes up, Amanda addresses Laura, saying, How many do you suppose we re going to entertain this afternoon? [...] [reappearing, airily] What? No one not one? You must be joking! [Laura nervously echoes her laugh] (Williams 18). Amanda is caught up in her dreams of marriage for Laura, made clear by her enthusiastic tone and body language, but Laura s uncomfortable laugh shows how she is not amused by her mother s aspirations. Amanda is only focused on what she wants for Laura, but she should really be concerned with what Laura wants for herself. In addition, Amanda cannot accept the fact that her daughter is not going to have any suitors; she denies reality and tries to bring Laura into her world of illusions. This irresponsible parenting causes Laura to become the childish adult that she is. When Amanda questions where Laura was going instead of business college, Laura explains that, I went in the art museum and the bird houses at the Zoo. I visited the penguins every day! [...] Lately I ve been spending most of my afternoons in the Jewel Box, that big glass house where they raise the tropical flowers (21). Laura is twenty three years old and she is getting excited about visiting attractions meant for kids.
