Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean Essay
Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean
The significance of the role played by slaves in the history of the Caribbean cannot be
overemphasized. Nearly everything that defines the Caribbean today can be traced back to the
advent of Africans to the sugar plantations several centuries ago. For this reason it is impossible to
ignore the issue of slavery when studying the history of the Caribbean, as we are doing in this class.
Through our numerous readings on the status of slaves and their treatment by the societies in
which they lived, we have learned much about the sufferings and ordeals of these people. The
following is an attempt to organize my own particular feelings and reactions, which I have
previously posted on line throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were constantly being tested and lived very tough lives. Only the strongest survived, as
they were forced to live completely independently of colonial communities and thus had to fend
for themselves. They were also hampered by their lack of women in the early stages, and it was
not uncommon for a group of Maroons to raid another village in search of more women. The
Buccaneers, on the other hand, did not have as many such problems, though they did not exactly
have it easy either. They were more or less social bandits and gained international fame for their
attacks on the Spanish and Spanish possessions. This was a huge help to the French and English,
who did not have the power to do this themselves but were subsequently better able to establish
colonies of their own in the New World. The main difference between the Buccaneers and the
Maroons is that while the former clung to the European culture and society with which they were
familiar, the latter attempted to create their own.
The transition to sugar plantations in Puerto Rico came a bit later, while Cuba experienced this
change a few years earlier. There are a few reasons why this is so, given that both islands were
closely ruled by Spain. One of the main reasons given is ...the rate of prior capital accumulation
and the attendant existence (or lack) of a capital reserve to invest in sugar once the demand arose.
(Beckles and Shepherd, 1991, p. 58) For Cuba, the capital reserve

Bullard s Ideas Of Discrimination In New Orleans
One of the worse natural disasters to ever impact the Earth was undoubtedly Hurricane Katrina. It
impacted New Orleans causing many casualties. This lead to psychological pain as the city tried
to regain its prior image. Also, leading to environmental racism, which is a form of discrimination
against minority groups and individuals from less unfortunate countries who are exposed to
environmental hazards (Ravelli Webber, 2013). Individuals in New Orleans had been endangered
to discrimination due to being left in areas exposed to disasters. Furthermore, how New Orleans
coped with the situation, comes from Bullard s ideas of ecological righteousness, changing the
burden of proof to polluters also equalizing current inequalities. The city faced

Osteoporosis And Its Effects On The Body
According to Mayo Clinic, Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle so brittle that
a fall or even mild stresses like bending over or coughing can cause a fracture. Osteoporosis
related fractures most commonly occur in the hip, wrist or spine (2014). The issue of osteoporosis
is very important due to the fact that it happens to a lot of people all over the world. Although the
disorder of the boneoccurs in older people, I believe that everyone should learn about osteoporosis
before it happens to them. Osteoporosis is very common, yet serious and people should have the
knowledge of learning the risks, treatments, and prevention. People are getting older and the

Bone density then is maintained for about 10 years. After age 35, both men and women will
normally lose 0.3% 0.5% of their bone density per year as part of the aging process. Bones are
continually growing until one s early adulthood and the bone mass is crucial in the skeletal
structure. The bone mass determines how strong or weak one s skeletal system is, but it is
influenced by the genetic factors as well as the modifications of environmental factors and
medications. Bone mass can be measured by receiving different kinds of bone density tests and
this can help guide your future to protect your bones in many ways. By having a bone density
test, one will learn if they have weak or strong bones before they break any bone, predict the
chances of breaking a bone, or see if your bones are starting to get stronger or weaker. The
benefits of having a bone density test is mainly for future references. According to the National
Osteoporosis Foundation, About 54 million Americans have osteoporosis and low bone mass,
placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis. Studies suggest that approximately one in two
women and up to one in four men age 50 and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis. The
bone disorder may be common, but there are many risk factors for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis
usually happens with elders, especially in postmenopausal women. According to Human Anatomy

The American Revolution And The Indian War
The American Revolution took place in 1754 1781. The revolution was marked by the
beginning of the French and the Indian war. This war primarily took place in America. The war
involved France and Britain. They were fighting for colonial supremacy in the American North.
The colonizers that were mostly the British officials who sought the opinions of the general
public. This was led to the war in 1754 at the Albany Congress. The American s fought together
with the British while the French joined forces with the different Native tribe. This revolution is
referred to as the French and Indian War. The British ended the French Indian War that lasted for
seven years (1754 1763) by capturing Canadian key forts and France key cities in Ohio Valley.
During the Pontiac s Uprising, Pontiac was the chief of Ottawa. Pontiac led native tribes to join
together and raided American settlements and British forts in Ohio Valley. These raids were signs
of the tribes rebelling against foreigners, who were stealing tribal lands. The British forces were
powerful, and the Pontiac s rallies were subdued. George Grenville s solution was a proclamation,
issued in 1763, temporarily banning all colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains
(Berkin 2014). The Proclamation Line of 1763 was the boundary that Britain established in the
Appalachian Mountains, west of which white settlement was banned; it was intended to reduce
conflict between Indians and colonists (Belkin 2014).

assets to generate additional value. The first thing is to notice is that Stagecoach s profitability
ratios are significantly higher than that of First group across all measures, which can reflect the
ability to generate profit. Since First group is the biggest transport company in the UK, the scale
of First group is much larger than that Stagecoach s, the total revenue of First group in the year
2013/14 is twice more than Stagecoach s. Meanwhile, the operating profit margin is higher than

Faint Memories Of My Birth Certificates
Starting this assignment, I do no feel overwhelming emotion to see my birth certificate. Faint
memories of my certificate linger within my head. In the past, I examined my birth certificate for
reasons I forgotten. Through these past examinations, I m certain that nothing out of the ordinary

motherbrought me into this life. All though, I suppose checking this document serves well to
familiarize myself with this legal document. Asking my parents for this document, they questioned
why I desired to see it after such a long time. I explained to them that it correlates to a writing
assignment for my critical thinking class. My parents overwhelmed with confusion to what kind of

questions. Confused and a bit off, they take me upstairs to a locked filing cabinet where all

Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison
Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on
their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship
seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero.
In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in
revolutionary France. His campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the
name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities,
murder. Countless of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although
the Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate.
Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the name of Napoleon stood up to
rescue the French people in their time of most need bringing lasting justice in the form of the
Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and education reforms that still lasts into present time.
Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression
by the British. Together Mugabe and the ZANU PF(ZimbabweAfrican National Union Patriotic
Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in 1980.
However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to
Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just ruler that did more good than harm for France but
Mugabe is a tyrant that

The Russian Revolution Of 1917
The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and
marked the beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of
investigation as it is arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it
helped shape many other subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War.
The Bolsheviks triumph can be accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of
autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism; the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks
compared to the downfalls of the Provisional Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover.
There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such as the backwardness of Russian society, the
failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of government which caused grievances
amongst the people. The Russian public desired political change, whether towards a more
democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more socialist revolution in which
power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why Tsarism collapsed, it is
crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led to the Tsar s
weaknesses in his control of the government.
Russia at this time was a backwards and provincial society: encompassing a vast expanse of
territory, the towns were underdeveloped and the

Home Ownership Is The American Dream !
Introduction
Home ownership is the American dream! It is one of the most costly purchases an individual or
family can make in their lifetime. Some people save until they have cash to purchase however,
many people borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to
purchase a home the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower
is called the mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage,
adjustable rate mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Borrowers have to undergo the
lender underwriting process to show financial capability of repaying the mortgage (Makarov
Plantin, 2013). In this article I will use a fictitious person named Julianna, she is in the process of
buying her first home at age 30; I will be her lender and will use mathematical procedures to find
out what is her down payment, principle, installment payment, points (closing cost), mortgage
maturity value and total interest paid.
Background
Julianna s real estate agent found her a home costing $600,000 in Queens, New York; she liked
the property and signed a contract to purchase and deposited $5,000. She is now left with a
balance due of $600,000 subtract $5,000 equal $595,000. She ordered an appraisal and it stated
that the market value of the property was $550,000. The appraiser found 3 properties almost
identical in the area that was recently sold; the 1rst was sold for $500,000, 2nd $550,000 and the

Under the CSGU questionnaire, each individual dimension is assessed with a four item subscale.
Firstly, participants were asked to note the main reason for their performance, stated in an open end

The Pros And Cons Of Fighting In National Hockey
What is the first image that comes to mind when you think of hockey? The Stanley cup? The
average amount of goals scored in a game? No, Most people think of fighting. Two people going
at it, trying to kill each other while on ice. There is a lot of controversy if this should stay in the
game. I think fighting should be allowed in the National Hockey League(NHL). Some of the
reason why fighting should be allowed in the National Hockey League are fighting could prevent
other injuries.Fighting is also used to protect amazing players that give a team an advantage. It
gives other people who are tough a job and a chance in the NHL.
To start off, Hockey is a very physical sport. But fighting has been in it forever. Fighting could
potentially prevent other injuries that could occur in a hockey game. Fighting in the NHL could
prevent other injuries because if there is not fighting and two payers are getting mad at eachother
they could hit each other harder and in ways that could hurt the other player. If there was fighting
there wouldn t be these injuries and players will not get hurt. Another reason why fighting could
prevent injuries is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fighting can be used to show how tough a team is. This will show that they are a good team they

reason how fighting could give people a job in the NHL is becauses because ther are some
players who get in the NHL because they can fight. Hockey is a tough sport it s a very physical
sport and with that fighting can occur in most circumstances. If a player on the opposing team
decides to hurt one of the maine players on the other team, that team will send out a player to
fight this will give people a job and a chance in the NHL. This also leads me in to my next reason

Integrative Approach To Counseling
An integrative approach to the role of a counselor with theological implications first includes
determining how an individual will relay to the world one s style of counseling (identity).
Furthermore, there is a recognition of the four main biblical matters known as creation, the Fall,
redemption, and restoration, and their applicability in one s therapeutic practice. The foundation of
a Christian worldview and the implementation of Scriptural principles are the chief tools of a
counselor working to achieve a sense of wholeness and reconciliation among clients in relation to
God, the world, one s self, and others.
An antecedent for a person training to become a counselor is the worldview he or she possesses,

by the sinful nature that crept in because of the Fall. Scripture harrowingly states, There is none
righteous, no, not one...There is none who does good, no, not one (Romans 3:10, 12, NKJV). This
profound statement is the heart of a counselor s humility, for no amount of degrees and training can
alter these words. As an earthly counselor, I ought to identify with the struggles of a sinful nature. It
is from this vantage point that I can serve God s children with integrity by not sitting in judgment
of the stains left by sin, but rather by offering empathy, compassion, and God given guidance to the
hurting and lost. It is through this mentality that help shape a professional s

3d Printing And Its Effects On The Economy
According to techrepublic.com, the popularity of 3D printing is expected to grow up to 75
percent within the next year which will create a huge rise in popularity of the new technology.
Because of this, a new market of 3D printing will begin to grow and emerge very rapidly due to
curiosity which makes this new technology a huge effecting factor on the economy. 3D printingis
the process of additive manufacturingwhich creates objects by using a nozzle with a ABS plastic
filament, melting the plastic, and layering the plastic in the appropriate locations in order to create
an object. Though it is a relatively simple process, it takes a lot of calibration and fine tuning and
the end result can be breathtaking. Because of the rapid growth and popularity of this new
technology, many different people, commercial manufactures to household families, are curious to
get their hands on a 3D printer. Since the technology is bound to change the way people and
businesses handle daily tasks, 3D printing may have some negative economic effects such as
hurting international trade with other countries and harmful health effects due to the chemicals
used in the printing process. Though these are harmful to the economy, there are even more
positive effects such as helping provide clean water for 3rd world countries, producing customized
products for less money, and creating extra educational aids for impaired students. Because this

What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men
re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories
that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first
category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags
around with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In
Shrek, Donkeyand Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly
moments, such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and
constellations together. Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house,
and he ends up letting him sleep on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie
and George are usually nice to each other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or
screws up, George will get frustrated and tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t
there with him, then he wouldn t have to take care of him and that he could have an easier life.

How Does Heller Use Satire In Catch 22
Catch 22 is a novel that satirizes war. Throughout the novel, Joseph Heller creates humor in a
dark time. Additionally, he explains the paradox of a catch 22 and how it represents the
hardships of a soldier in World War II. Heller also makes fun of war. Characters, such as Major
Major Major Major and General Scheisskopf, have exaggerated names which brings humor to the
novel. A final tactic Heller uses is highlighting the worst parts of war. Extended bombing missions
is an example of these tragic parts in the war. In many ways, he uses satire in Catch 22to point out
the ridiculous and pointless aspects of war.
Heller wrote Catch 22 to create humor within a dark time period. During World War II, he
witnessed many awful tragedies and experiences. He wrote this as a satire because he knew
readers would not want to read about war s harsh realities. The phrase catch 22 is humorous, yet
represents the tragic reality of war. A catch 22 is a paradox with a negative connotation. The classic
version of a catch 22 in the book was being discharged from the army. You could only be grounded
from flying, and discharged, if you were crazy. But if you were crazy, you would not ask to be
grounded. So by asking to be grounded, it proved you not to be crazy. ... Show more content on

Essay on he Meiji Restoration in Japan
In 1868, The Meiji Restoration in Japan begins as the Emperor Meiji oversees an era of rapid
modernization, creates a conscript army, and abolishes the samurai class ranking which has defined
order in Japan since the 1600 s. Education is reformed, a constitution is created; a parliament
established. Victory in wars with Russia and China will begin the dominant period of Japanese
nationalism and influence leading to World War II.
Japan in modern times is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world. This
modern image that Japan hasn t been around forever, Japans decision to change from an old
traditional country to a westernised one came in 1868, and it took only 50 years for the
improvements to be made. In order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now realizing that Japan must play an international role in the world, they were united in looking
towards the West. They hoped to adapt western ideas while retaining the values of the East.
Government stability was crucial to this objective. In 1873 a new tax system provided a secure
revenue base and abolished the feudal land system. In 1877 the conscript army defeated a major
samurai revolt led by Saigo Takamori, a leading figure in the imperial restoration. Inflation
reduced the value of government revenues, and between 1881 and 1885 a rigorous deflation
policy initiated by Matsasukata Masayoshi stabilized the currency. The incredible speed of
adaptation shown by the change in systems allowed the Restoration to go smoother and faster, it
gave the people incentives to work towards a greater Japan, especially when all classes were equal.
The young Meiji government worked hard to balance production for domestic use as well as for
export. Protection for native industries was a prime consideration, but the new internationalists
understood the necessity for an accelerated industrial revolution in Japan. They were quick to adopt
western methods in heavy industries and in the processing of textiles. The foundations for some of
the great fortunes of Japan were laid in the early Meiji period, when the government, after
nationalising and developing such industries as shipbuilding, mining, railroads, electricity and silk

Importance of Physical Education
Fitness
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many
lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to
burn calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and
improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health
conditions in check.
It Builds Self Esteem
Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball, martial arts and running
just to name a few are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies. It s
probably because of the self discipline and dedication to excel in a sport that brings out the best in
students. In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students
allowing them to make choices to which sport areas they want to get involved in.
Life Lessons
By participating in various sports, a student gets to learn so many things about life. A student wins
some games and loses some; this makes him understand that winning and losing are a part of life
and should be accepted with grace. When a student participates in team games, he learns that co
operating with others is very important if goals are to be achieved. Likewise, sports can teach so
many life lessons to students and thus, help

Ion Exchange Chromatography Lab Report
1. Ion exchange chromatography is a technique, which separates a mixture of amino acids based
on their produced charge. Isoelectric point is a pH where the given amino acid has a no charge
thus; produces a neutral structure. With a pH above the isoelectric point will cause the amino acid
to be deprotonated and thus; produce a negative charge where as a pH lower than the isoelectric
point will cause the amino acidto be protonated and thus; hold a positive charge.
2. In the experiment a cation exchange column was used to separate the mixture of amino acid.
Cation exchange column is a negatively charged column where amino acids with positive ions
would stick while, amino acids with negative ion would repel and elude out of the column. Three
unknown buffers were used with pH of 3.5,6.5,and10.5 and the ... Show more content on

water. Many individuals have been facing health problems after drinking water, which contains
anions such as chloride and sulfate. These anions cause negative side effects in our body therefore;
U.S. National Primary Drinking Water Standards are now using ion exchange chromatography as a

The Big Bang Theory And Steady State Theory
Introduction
There are two schools of thought relating to the creation of the universe and how the universe
works. The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence
collated thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture
of how the universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and
what is happening now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly
favouring one of the abovementioned theories.
Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory
The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states
that the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the
galaxies and stars we know today. But it also states that the galaxies are still moving away from the
initial blast. This theory is currently highly regarded because of its evidence supporting it such as
Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) and Red shift.
Key Aspects of the Steady State Theory
The steady state theory is the other main theory that gives an explanation about the universes life.
The theory states that the universe always existed and that the density of the universe is unchanged,
but because the universe is always expanding, there are hydrogen bubbles that are created and then
they form into stars because they condense. But this theory is not highly reliable or accepted
because it doesn t explain

The Sochi Olympics Of 2014
The Sochi Olympics of 2014 were advertised as green because in preparation, everything would
be built from scratch and they are going to minimize the environmental impact. This claim is
ambitious but is questionable if it is as eco conscience as they claim. The origins of the
Olympics started in ancient Greece. A part of a religious festival in honor of Zeus, the father of
the Greek gods and goddesses. The festival and the games were held in Olympia. According to the
first written accounts of the ancient Olympics, When a cook named Coroebus won the only event a
192 meter footrace called the stade (the origin of the modern stadium ) to become the first Olympic
champion. (The Olympic Games) That being said, it is widely thought that the olumpics had been
occurring before that. There is also a Heracles legend that says he founded it. There is one thing
that is for certain, the Olympics had become the most famous of all Greek sporting festivals. The
beginning of the winter Olympics happened in the early 1900s. It consisted of ski jump and
bobsled as well as 12 other events involving a total of six sports. The International Winter Sports
Week (First Winter) In the beginning, only the Scandinavian countries were involved in these
Nordic Games . The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wanted this to be its own separate
winter competition instead of it just being a week. IOC wanted this to take place for the 1912

Victory Of Judith
The victory of Judith tells the story of the defeat of Holofernes by Judith. It takes place in the small
Jewish town of Bethulia, which had been surrounded by the Assyrians. Taking into consideration
the fact that the Israelites were outnumbered and running out of water, Uzziah, the village chief,
made the decision to surrender in 5 days time. Judith, a very beautiful widow, said that Godwas
going to save them by her hand. She dressed herself with her best gowns and jewelry, bathed in
perfume, and set out to where Holoferneswas stationed. As she reached the his soldiers, she was
questioned as to why she had come, her reply was I am fleeing from them as they will soon be

The Government Was Broken Following The Watergate Scandal
Trust in the government was broken following the Watergate Scandal, the American people doubted
the people running the country. Someone had to step forward and take the leadership position
where he would face a people who lacked trust in the government. Whoever took up this position
was going to face unusual circumstances and difficult obstacles from the first day of his
presidency, and that man was Gerald Ford. Ford was the only president to not be elected into
office. After serving in Congress for 25 years, he was looked up to for his flexibility, and had a
reputation for being open and honest. When Nixon s vice president resigned, Ford became Vice
President since he was someone that both democrats and republicans would accept. Having said
that, Ford had been successful as a house minority leader, but as a president he proved to be only
average (Gerald). Ford rates as average due to his decision in the Nixon pardon, his actions during
a poor economy, how he handled domestic issues, and his foreign policies. He may have had good
ideas, but he had trouble implementing them. About a month following his inauguration into office,
Ford pardoned his predecessor, Richard Nixon, following the Watergate scandal. This sparked anger
among Americans who were doubting not only the government, but the constitution. People
believed that when Ford pardoned Nixon, it was proof that our system was broken. Rumors spread

Feminism Is A Conflict Theory
In this essay it will assess to what extent feminism has added to our understanding of society.
Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men
to oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of
feminism; the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. Feminists
believe that society is malestream and not mainstream as people believe. The first main flaw in
feminist theory is the fact that feminists only examine society from the viewpoint of women, they
do this because they believe they are in fact helping fight against the oppression of women but the
problem is that they do not examine the views of many male counterparts and therefore cannot help
us completely understand our society. The main differentiation between the different feminist
theories is the way that the oppression against women is caused. Firstly, Liberal feminist are
focused on human and civil rights and freedom of individuals, to summarise, they believe that all
humans should have equal rights within their society. They believe that society changing itself to
help women does not happen. Liberal feminists believe the status of women changing can become
a reality if laws that are oppressing for women change because it would create more opportunities
for women to prove that they are equal to men. Oakley explains a difference between sex and gender

The inflationary impact of the rise in the prices of inputs are not helping in achieving the export

The Help Movie Analysis
The Help, a film centered around the theme of discrimination based on the color of one s skin, is
set in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s. The story took place before the Civil Rights
Movement and Act of 1964 after which all citizens of the United States were guaranteed the
same provisions and racial segregation was prohibited. We see innumerous instances of the
white ladies viewing their black domestic maids as inferior PEOPLE. This shows us how the
skin color of an individual in Southern society actually determined which class he or she was 3
/ 3 born into and the socioeconomic conditions he had to endure during his lifetime. Each and
every colored character we come across in the course of the plot fits into the system as a
member of the working class while most white women we know are the employers of these
colored helps as part of high society. In essence, this movie is about a white woman who told the
story of black women. Skeeter interviewed different domestic maids like Aibileen and Minny, who
spent their lives looking after others white children while their own were back at home. She
documented their suffering and experiences and published them in a book known as The Help

Before coming into this class, I thought that psychology was working with children and see how

psychology was to identify components of consciousness and how they both combined with
each other. They would do experiment to examine their own consciousness. There were many
people that were in psychology and do experiments. Also, what I found interesting was the

and has a behavior indicator such as a lever or a button. With this box they use an animal, and
whenever the animal pushes the button or the lever it sends a message of positive reinforcement
of the behavior either if its food or punishment. I read this and was amazed with it. I never

if we adapt into our lives we will reach true peace and happiness. The book made so much sense to

I finally realized that people will talk about you whether you re doing good or bad.
Don t Make Assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.
Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstanding, sadness and drama.
With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
We make assumptions because we need explanations (to our questions) to address what s going on
in our own minds. The mind is a powerful thing and our minds have different voices and
personality that can create a lot of confusion. When I make assumptions there is always conflict
that follows. I know now that through communication we can arrive to resolution. This agreement
rings true for me and has caused disappointment and sadness in my life to be at a point in my life
that I can ask for what I want.
Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different
when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you
will avoid self judgment, self abuse and regret.
I don t always feel as if I did my best I never have, too. In this agreement I know it mentions that
your best is going to change from moment to moment. I would like to experience my best more
often. To truly give my best I have to be moved in some kind of spiritual way. That is the only
time I feel as if I m doing something I want versus something I have to do. The more my life is

The Social Liberties Development, Logical Request, And A...
I put stock in development, logical request, and a worldwide temperature alteration; I have
confidence in free discourse, whether politically right or politically off base, and I am suspicious
of utilizing government to force anyone s religious convictions including my own on
nonbelievers. We consider confidence a wellspring of solace and seeing yet discover our demeanors
of confidence sowing division; we trust ourselves to be a tolerant people even as
racial, religious, and social strains bother the scene. Also, rather than determining these strains or
interceding these contentions, our legislative issues fans them, misuses them, and divides us. A

Perhaps there s no getting away from our awesome political gap, a perpetual conflict of armed
forces, and any endeavors to change the guidelines of engagement are purposeless. Alternately
perhaps the trivialization of governmental issues has achieved a final turning point, so that the vast
majority consider it to be only one more preoccupation, a game, with legislators our paunch bellied
combatants and the individuals who try to focus just fans on the sidelines: We paint our confronts
red or
blue and cheer our side and boo their side, and on the off chance that it takes a late hit or shameful
attack to beat the other group, so be it, for winning is the only thing that is important.
In any case, I don t think so. They are out there, I contemplate internally, those customary residents
who have experienced childhood amidst all the political and social fights, yet who have found a
path in their own lives, in any event to make peace with their neighbors, and themselves.
...I envision they are sitting tight for a legislative issues with the development to adjust optimism
and authenticity, to recognize what can and can t be traded off, to concede the likelihood that the
other side may infrequently have a point. They don t generally comprehend the contentions

Greed Is Good By Neel Burton
Introduction Throughout society, several individuals ponder on the notion: How does greed lead
to one s demise? However, before discussing the consequences of greed, one must consider its
motives. Greed is developed when an individual faces adversity early on in life or becomes
envious of others because it motivates them to search for an alternative that fills the void of
deprivation. To guarantee that their desire is fulfilled, their greed will lead them to perform
impulsive and irrational actions, resulting in their demise.
Motives for Greed The origins of greed stem from encountering hardships at a young age and
becoming excessively jealous of others. Within an article titled: Is Greed Good, Neel Burton
argues that greed often arises from early negative experiences such as parental inconsistency,
neglect, or abuse. In later life, feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, often combined with low self
esteem, lead the person to fixate on a particular substitute for what she once needed but could not
find (Burton). When an individual is prematurely exposed to adversity, they are withheld from
fulfilling their desires or needs because their oppression prevents them from doing so. As a result,
they dwell obsessively upon an alternative for what he or she is deprived of, leading to their
greediness because they will go to great lengths to ensure that their desires are achieved.

Unit 4
During the period of 600 1450, the eastern hemisphere was connected through many trading routes.
Although both the IOT and SR resulted in immense wealth being created, the IOT promoted islam
through its ocean voyages and the SR supported Christianity through the overland routes, and it
had more drastic effects on society. The SR and IOT were profiting in immense wealth due to
being exclusive traders. When the Crusaders or the Christian knights from Western Europe came to
the ME, in order to claim back their holy city Jerusalem, they were awed in wonder as they saw
how spices came and went, and the transfusion of many enlightening ideas took place. They
witnessed Arabic numerals, philosophical ideas, and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Saffron proved to be an equally important trade because of the high value that was placed on it.
Not only did it add intense and wonderful flavor to food, but during a time where there were no
refrigerators, saffron helped preserve food. Slaves, another major source of trade, had the strongest
influence since they were the most valuable goods and they were the most traded/bought goods.
Slavery not only played a key factor then, but would do so in centuries to follow as well. The SR
promoted the influence of Christianity, mostly because its final destination was Rome. After the
Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity, a large portion of Rome did so as well,
resulting in Rome becoming a Catholic state. After many goods arrived in Rome, from places as
far as China, cultural diffusion occurred as a result. Also, the Crusaders influenced the road as
they ventured on recapturing Jursalem. In the SR, the major goods that were traded were silk
and porcelain from China, and horses from Persia. Silk, of all the goods listed, was the most
important, not only because of its value, but also its quality, which resulted in the SR being
called the SR . However, extremely unlike like the IOT, the SR had a disastrous effect due to
Mongols passing off a disease called Black Death . It had a

Hyperbole In The 1930 s
In this letter, Downe employs a conversational and extremely personal tone, and appeals to his
wife s instincts through the use of hyperbole, similes, and examples of the many benefits he
receives in order to persuade her to emigrate. He portrays America as a land of equality and
convenience using a common man s tone and vivid imagery. Downe also undermines the
difficulties of emigration his wife may face in order to make her more agreeable to the idea.
He opens by exchanging pleasantries with her, My dear wife and then goes on to describe his
current situation. I get the impression that he is very excited and enthusiastic due to his child like
tone and fast pacing. A farmer took me one day... Downe describes the kindness of people around...

that there is too many people... it is quite the reverse Down uses hyperbole and will be for a
thousand years... in order to reassure his wife. There is a change in mood in the second paragraph,
since Downe is trying to justify his emigration, and he turns poetic in order to reinforce his love
and deep caring for his wife and children. My dear Sukey...You know very well...I would rather
cross the Atlantic ten times. Downe states that poverty and deprivation forced him to go abroad in
search of a living. It appears to me that Down is glorifying his travels in order to make his wife
emphathise with him and tempt her to come to America. He undermines the difficultes his wife
may face during emigration. You will find a few...
Downe then proceeds to portray America as a land of freedom, equality and unlimited opportunity
using an inspirational tone. This is a country where a man can stand...with rational liberty to its
fullest extent.
Downe recreates some of his experiences in America in a joyful manner, and successfully conjures
up an image of America as a country that has not been tainted with crime, poverty, and
discrimination. Poverty is unknown here. A personal tone that shows his sense of longing and
excitement is maintained throughout the letter, especially the

Essay about Deep Sea Fish Adaptions
The discoverer of the titanic, Dr Robert Ballard famously referred to the deep sea as far more
alien than going to mars or the moon. The deep sea is one of the largest virtually unexplored
ecosystems on the planet; it is found at a depth of 1000 fathoms [1] and is subject to adverse
changes in temperature, pressure and light penetration amongst other factors. Therefore as expected
fishdecrease in abundance, and species diversity. This trend is prominent as in order to survive the
harsh conditions of the deep sea, fish need a number of specific adaptations. Allowing them to
ultimately survive, feed, and reproduce.
The deep sea is one of the most hostile environments in the world, which a living organism is
subjected to. As you progress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The viper fish (shown in figure 1) possesses large eyes to catch the little light present. This helps
them to locate prey as well as avoid predators. [4] Light cannot penetrate any deeper than the
epipelagic layer, therefore the only light present is that produced from the inhabitants themselves. A
percentage of deep sea fish are able to create light through the chemical reaction; bioluminescence.
Most of the light created by marine organisms is blue green in colour. As blue light travels best in
water and most marine organisms are sensitive to blue light. [6] Anglerfish produces the chemical
luciferin which reacts with oxygen to create light. The light helps species communicate, attract a
mate or prey, or deter predators. As the bioluminescent lure is believe to mimic the movements of
zooplankton. [6]
Being the lower layer of the ocean, it is no wonder the pressure is immense for the fish of the
deep. The pressure exist between 200 600 atm , and in order to survive this immense pressure
deep sea creature have special adapted bodies which have no excess cavities, e.g. Swim bladders
that would collapse under intense pressure, instead they have neutral buoyancy where there
bladders are filled with lipids. The deep sea dragon fish lives at a depth of 5000 meter, to survive
the dragon fish has soft ,flabby, flesh and bones this aid its ability to survive

  • 2. Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean Essay Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean The significance of the role played by slaves in the history of the Caribbean cannot be overemphasized. Nearly everything that defines the Caribbean today can be traced back to the advent of Africans to the sugar plantations several centuries ago. For this reason it is impossible to ignore the issue of slavery when studying the history of the Caribbean, as we are doing in this class. Through our numerous readings on the status of slaves and their treatment by the societies in which they lived, we have learned much about the sufferings and ordeals of these people. The following is an attempt to organize my own particular feelings and reactions, which I have previously posted on line throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were constantly being tested and lived very tough lives. Only the strongest survived, as they were forced to live completely independently of colonial communities and thus had to fend for themselves. They were also hampered by their lack of women in the early stages, and it was not uncommon for a group of Maroons to raid another village in search of more women. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, did not have as many such problems, though they did not exactly have it easy either. They were more or less social bandits and gained international fame for their attacks on the Spanish and Spanish possessions. This was a huge help to the French and English, who did not have the power to do this themselves but were subsequently better able to establish colonies of their own in the New World. The main difference between the Buccaneers and the Maroons is that while the former clung to the European culture and society with which they were familiar, the latter attempted to create their own. The transition to sugar plantations in Puerto Rico came a bit later, while Cuba experienced this change a few years earlier. There are a few reasons why this is so, given that both islands were closely ruled by Spain. One of the main reasons given is ...the rate of prior capital accumulation and the attendant existence (or lack) of a capital reserve to invest in sugar once the demand arose. Osteoporosis And Its Effects On The Body According to Mayo Clinic, Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses like bending over or coughing can cause a fracture. After age 35, both men and women will normally lose 0.3% 0.5% of their bone density per year as part of the aging process. The bone mass determines how strong or weak one s skeletal system is, but it is influenced by the genetic factors as well as the modifications of environmental factors and medications. Bone mass can be measured by receiving different kinds of bone density tests and this can help guide your future to protect your bones in many ways. During the Pontiac s Uprising, Pontiac was the chief of Ottawa. Pontiac led native tribes to join together and raided American settlements and British forts in Ohio Valley. These raids were signs of the tribes rebelling against foreigners, who were stealing tribal lands. The British forces were powerful, and the Pontiac s rallies were subdued. George Grenville s solution was a proclamation, issued in 1763, temporarily banning all colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains (Berkin 2014). The Proclamation Line of 1763 was the boundary that Britain established in the Appalachian Mountains, west of which white settlement was banned; it was intended to reduce conflict between Indians and colonists (Belkin 2014). ... • 8. Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the name of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of most need bringing lasting justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and education reforms that still lasts into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression by the British. Together Mugabe and the ZANU PF(ZimbabweAfrican National Union Patriotic Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in 1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to Zimbabwe. • 9. The Russian Revolution Of 1917 The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and marked the beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of investigation as it is arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it helped shape many other subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War. The Bolsheviks triumph can be accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism; the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks compared to the downfalls of the Provisional Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover. There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such as the backwardness of Russian society, the failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of government which caused grievances amongst the people. The Russian public desired political change, whether towards a more democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more socialist revolution in which power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why Tsarism collapsed, it is crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led to the Tsar s weaknesses in his control of the government. Russia at this time was a backwards and provincial society: encompassing a vast expanse of territory, the towns were underdeveloped and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people save until they have cash to purchase however, many people borrow money from a bank or lending institution; when a person borrows money to purchase a home the loan is called a mortgage. The lender is called the mortgagee and the borrower is called the mortgagor; banks have several different types of mortgages: fixed rate mortgage, adjustable rate mortgage, investment mortgage and much more. Heller wrote Catch 22 to create humor within a dark time period. During World War II, he witnessed many awful tragedies and experiences. He wrote this as a satire because he knew readers would not want to read about war s harsh realities. The phrase catch 22 is humorous, yet represents the tragic reality of war. The Big Bang Theory and the Steady State Theory are constantly compared using evidence collated thus far by scientists and astrologists. By using this evidence, experts are creating a picture of how the universe came about along with scenarios as to what happened in the beginning and what is happening now. Through the use of this evidence, the schools of thought are increasingly favouring one of the abovementioned theories. Key Aspects of Big Bang Theory The big bang theory is the main theory about understanding the universes life. This theory states that the universe was once a hot dense ball of matter that exploded and scattered all of the galaxies and stars we know today. Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men to oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of feminism; the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. It was decided early on what I should do, what s possible and what s not. Starting at birth we are told what to think by our parents, schools, and church. Subconsciously, we have made agreements with them to live our life according to their rules. Don Miguel believes that these agreements are self limiting and shares four agreements that if we adapt into our lives we will reach true peace and happiness. The book made so much sense to me, but the hard part is to actually commit to living out the four agreements. In short, the four agreements are listed below: ... Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstanding, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life. We make assumptions because we need explanations (to our questions) to address what s going on in our own minds. The mind is a powerful thing and our minds have different voices and personality that can create a lot of confusion. When I make assumptions there is always conflict that follows. I know now that through communication we can arrive to resolution. This agreement rings true for me and has caused disappointment and sadness in my life to be at a point in my life that I can ask for what I want. Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self judgment, self abuse and regret. I don t always feel as if I did my best I never have, too. In this agreement I know it mentions that your best is going to change from moment to moment. I would like to experience my best more often. To truly give my best I have to be moved in some kind of spiritual way. That is the only time I feel as if I m doing something I want versus something I have to do. The more my life is ... • 42. Greed Is Good By Neel Burton Introduction Throughout society, several individuals ponder on the notion: How does greed lead to one s demise? However, before discussing the consequences of greed, one must consider its motives. Greed is developed when an individual faces adversity early on in life or becomes envious of others because it motivates them to search for an alternative that fills the void of deprivation. To guarantee that their desire is fulfilled, their greed will lead them to perform impulsive and irrational actions, resulting in their demise. Motives for Greed The origins of greed stem from encountering hardships at a young age and becoming excessively jealous of others. Within an article titled: Is Greed Good, Neel Burton argues that greed often arises from early negative experiences such as parental inconsistency, neglect, or abuse. In later life, feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, often combined with low self esteem, lead the person to fixate on a particular substitute for what she once needed but could not find (Burton). When an individual is prematurely exposed to adversity, they are withheld from fulfilling their desires or needs because their oppression prevents them from doing so. As a result, they dwell obsessively upon an alternative for what he or she is deprived of, leading to their greediness because they will go to great lengths to ensure that their desires are achieved. Not only did it add intense and wonderful flavor to food, but during a time where there were no refrigerators, saffron helped preserve food. Slaves, another major source of trade, had the strongest influence since they were the most valuable goods and they were the most traded/bought goods. Slavery not only played a key factor then, but would do so in centuries to follow as well. The SR promoted the influence of Christianity, mostly because its final destination was Rome. After the Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity, a large portion of Rome did so as well, resulting in Rome becoming a Catholic state. After many goods arrived in Rome, from places as far as China, cultural diffusion occurred as a result. Also, the Crusaders influenced the road as they ventured on recapturing Jursalem. In the SR, the major goods that were traded were silk and porcelain from China, and horses from Persia. Silk, of all the goods listed, was the most important, not only because of its value, but also its quality, which resulted in the SR being called the SR . Therefore as expected fishdecrease in abundance, and species diversity. A percentage of deep sea fish are able to create light through the chemical reaction; bioluminescence. Most of the light created by marine organisms is blue green in colour. As blue light travels best in water and most marine organisms are sensitive to blue light. [6] Anglerfish produces the chemical luciferin which reacts with oxygen to create light. The light helps species communicate, attract a mate or prey, or deter predators. As the bioluminescent lure is believe to mimic the movements of zooplankton.
