Food Inc Documentary Analysis
Food Inc.: Health on the Downfall due to Dirty Business Big businesses play a major role in all
aspects of government and have managed to get a patent on life, meaning that they can control the
way people live. What better way to control the lives of citizens then to create laws controlling the
way food is produced and manufactured. In the food documentary, Food Inc, produced by Robert
Kenner there is a discussion and display about the way food is made and how it has affected both the
citizens and the way that big businesses have corrupted the agricultural and meat industry. The
documentary goes through various ways that business have caused farmers to produce crops and
meats inhumanely. Food in the United States as begun to be produced so ... Show more content on

Throughout the interview the farmer discusses how Tyson will require her to update her farms in order
to increase production and require her to pay for it which cause her to go into to more debt. A statistic
given by the documentary states that, a farmer pays around $500,000 to open 3 chicken farms, and the
average chicken farmer makes around $18,000 per year. This statistic given in the documentary goes
to show how the companies like Tyson maximize profit by outsourcing the work where they do have
to pay the expenses of operating the farms. Along with the endless debt that is piled up there are
countless side effects that come from growing the chickens and operating a chicken farm. Side effects
like diseases, becoming immune to antibiotics, and the filth that surrounds the operation of a chicken
farm. The debt that farmers accumulate gets to such a large number that there is no way out of the
business and must deal with being connected to their company. With all the upgrades that are
demanded by big poultry companies like Tyson or Perdue, and, between 2004 and 2006 chicken
farmers spent over $650 million on upgrades to their chicken farms, an average of $38,000 per farm.
This debt that is racked up is taking out by loans that farmers must pay back to the banks with no
assistance from the big poultry companies. Though the

Gender Bias In The Media
Gender Bias in the Media is happening right now all around us, woman are being treated differently
because of they re gender, many women are expected to maintain certain beauty standards and are less
likely to receive leadership roles. I recently was given the ability to listen to an interview regarding
this issue. Robyn Urback is a Canadian journalist and political commentator based in Toronto, Ontario
recently gave a speech and received an interview regarding this issue. Robyn Urback discussed many
different problems about one of the biggest one that stands out to me was the sexual abuse and double
standards. She mentioned a few examples, one being how news media companies like Fox News
encouraged their woman to show their legs and wear short skirts, furthermore, to not sit in the middle
of the table since the stand would block the view of their legs. For many years, news reports indicated
the network didn t allow its female hosts to wear pants. Gabriel Sherman s biography of Ailes, The
Loudest Voice in the Room, said the founder and former chairman of Fox News once disapproved
when former host Catherine Crier appeared on TV wearing pants. The book states: Be more
opinionated, he told Crier in one meeting. The guests are there as a foil for you. He also disagreed
with her dress. He had admiration for her legs, a senior executive said. In one meeting, Ailes barked,

Case Study on a Three Year Old With Bronchiolitis
Introduction:
This paper will discuss a case study of Liam, a three month old boy who is transferred from the
General Practitioner (GP) to paediatric ward with bronchiolitis. Initially, Liam s chief health issues
will be identified, following by nursing assessment and diagnoses of the child s need. Focus will be
made on the management of two major health problems: respiratory distress and dehydration, and
summary and evaluation of the interventions with evidence of learning. Lastly, a conclusion of author
s self evaluation will be present.
Identification of specific key issues:
Liam is a previously healthy boy who has experienced rhinorrhoea, intermittent cough, and poor
feeding for the past four days. His positive result of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blood gas analysis may be performed to determine if high concentration oxygen therapy is needed
(Bush Thomson, 2007). The management of fever would be a part of care plan when the infant is
febrile due to infection (Axton Fugate 2009).
It is also important to keep accurate record of Liam s fluid balance chart, and assess Liam s capillary
refill, skin turgor, fontanel condition and mucous membranes every shift, as they provide information
about the infant s hydration status (Axton Fugate 2009). Urine analysis may be performed to provide
information on hydration status and/or determine if Liam has urine tract infection (UTI) (Axton
Fugate 2009; Crisp, Taylor, Douglas, Rebeiro, 2013). Management of dehydration would be one of
nursing interventions if urine sample shows a high urine specific gravity, and antibiotics would be
administered if a bacterium is detected in the urine sample (Axton Fugate 2009). Feeding ability
should be assessed in order to determine the route of fluid intake (i.e. oral, nasogastric or intravenous
fluids) (PMH, 2013).
Rapid virological testing for RSV is recommended in order to guide isolation and allocate Liam into
cohorts in hospital (Fitzgerald, 2011).
Finally, the nurse may need to assess Liam s parents understanding of bronchiolitis in order to
determine what information that nurses need to provide, and

Europeans, for example, have been highly skeptical of any benefits they might gain from GM foods.
Many nations in the European Union (EU) have effectively banned imports of what they refer to as
Frankenfoods, a reference to the famous story of the fictional monster assembled by Dr. Frankenstein
from miscellaneous spare parts. The U.S claims that the EU s anti GM food policy violates free trade
laws.
Many questions remain regarding the future of GM foods. Should they continue to be sold in the U.S.,
even though they may have unforeseen negative consequences? Or should the U.S. take a cue from the
EU and limit the selling of GM foods until they are unequivocally proven to be risk free? Do the
possible future health benefits of GM foods such as fruits and vegetables with extra vitamins and
vaccines built into their DNA cancel out any potential risks that the new technology brings?
Supporters of GM foods say that since there has been no evidence of GM foods harming humans, it is
reasonable to assume that they are safe for consumption. GM food backers denounce criticism of
genetic engineering as fear mongering. Besides, they argue, no new technology is without a certain
degree of risk. GM food supporters believe that the possible health benefits of GM foods overwhelm
any possible dangers.
Supporters of biotech crops also maintain that if GM food technology is allowed to develop, it may
prove to be instrumental in eliminating world hunger.

Early civilization of North America
Early civilization of North America With the discovery of America, several emigrants started moving
to this newly discovered land. As a result of this, numerous colonies were formed in America. The
Spanish settlers were the first to immigrate to America. They formed colonies in the West Indies,
Mexico and South America. On the other hand, English emigrants arrived to New England, Virginia
and other parts of America, which later formed the United States. Immigration to the New World took
pace in the early 1600s and grew from a group of few hundred colonists to a flood of millions of
newcomers. These new settlers started building a new civilization in the northern region. Immigration
of English settlers started long after the settlement of Spaniards in South America and Mexico.
Majority of the English colonists were those who escaped their homeland to avoid political coercion,
to practice their religions with freedom and to explore new opportunities that were absent in their
homeland. It was the time when England was facing an economic depression and job opportunities
were rare even for skilled people. Immigration of English and other European settlers was primary due
to the political instability in their homeland. The instable regime of Charles I forced many English
people to move to the New World. In addition to this, the repressive policies of rulers in other parts of
Europe and the destruction because of several wars played a major role in encouraging Europeans to

Mystical Experiences By Walter T. Stace Analysis
2. Mystical Experiences by Walter T. Stace In English literature, after William James and Evelyn
Underhill, Walter Terence Stace is the most popular philosopher to be referred for mysticism. His most
renowned works in the field of mysticism are Mysticism and Philosophy (1960) . In this work of
mysticism Stace discusses his thoughts about mystical experiences with illustrations from world
literature. It is considered to be the masterpiece by W. T. Stace. Stace considers visions, voices,
insights, and powerful dreams to be non mystical as he says nonsensuous and nonintellectual union
only can help one attain mysticism. In his book, Stace prefers sacred texts from several philosophical
schools to describe mysticism and further classifies them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not the phenomenal ego but the True or Greater Self that experiences unity with the Absolute, or

consciousness, out of which arise types of experience, akin to, but not to be confused or equated with,
those labeled religious , and which results in a special sort of spirituality, giving that word a wide
connotation, and predisposition to interrogate and interpret the universe in particular way. Further, I
have regarded it as a tenable hypothesis that this mystical consciousness is, of its nature, in some way
a development and extension of rational consciousness, resulting in an enlargement and refining of
perception, and consequently having a noetic quality, so that through it knowledge of the real is gained
which could not be gained through rational

Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people*
Jeffrey Pfeffer
Executive Overview
Achieving competitive success through people involves fundamentally altering how we think about
the workforce and the employment relationship. It means achieving success by working with people,
not by replacing them or limiting the scope of their activities. It entails seeing the workforce as a
source of strategic advantage, not just as a cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but
simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these five
successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on
technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce.
The Importance of the Workforce and How
It is Managed
As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial,
differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance,
Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve
that success from economies of scale. In
1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4 People
Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost
20 it took Southwest. Southwest exists not because of regulated or protected markets but in spite of
them. During the first three years of its history, no
Southwest planes were flown. 5 Southwest waged a battle for its very existence with competitors who
sought to keep it from flying at all and, failing that, made sure it did not fly out of the newly
constructed Dallas Fort Worth international airport.
Instead, it was restricted to operating out of the

Interesting Events In The 1980 s
The 1980 s were a very fascinating decade that had a lot going on. They had a lot of important events
happen, many intriguing people, astonishing technological and medical advances and some interesting
fashions and fads.
A lot of events happened in the 1980 s, but two of the most interesting events were the 1989 U.S.
invasion of Panama and the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. The invasion of Panama started
in December 1989. The United States invaded Panama at that time to charge the Panamanian leader,
Manuel Noriega, with drug trafficking offenses. U.S. President Ronald Reagan deployed 24,000
Americans into Panama. All of the fighting ended on January 31, 1990 with America on the winning
side. America captured Noriega and put him on trial in the U.S. He was convicted of his crimes and

patriotism, religion, hard work, and self reliance. Ronald Reagan had many great accomplishments
while he was president, but the biggest one was ending the Cold War with the Soviet Union.Another
compelling person from the 1980 s was Bill Cosby, an actor and comedian. He helped break down
racial barriers on T.V. He is best remembered for his famous sitcom The Cosby Show , which won
numerous Emmy awards and countless other awards. Upon receiving the Presidential Medal of

The Advantages Of Newspapers As A Medium
Newspapers because of their big circulations are the most widely used advertising medium. They offer
something for everybody: news of what is going on in the world as well as in the local community,
editorial comment on current issues, sports coverage, financial pages, homemaker sections, and
entertainment features. With often 60 to 70 percent of their space devoted to advertising, newspapers
keep their readers informed of the myriad of goods and services available in the marketplace,
including the apartment for rent, the house for sale, and the employment opportunity appearing in the
classified section. The newspaper is an ideal medium for most retailers. Its circulation area generally
conforms to the retail trading area. Retailers located in suburban shopping centers of major cities

The Advantages of Newspapers Medium Newspapers have a short life. They are usually read as soon
as they are received and thrown away. Because of this, advertisement is not exposed to the readers for
any long of time. The cheap quality newspapers do not facilitate artwork to be displayed effectively.
The message could be reached only to literates, provided they are readers of the newspapers. The
advertising in T.V. is more advantages of catching attention than written medium like newspaper.
There are different kinds of magazines like educational, literature, social, economic, fashion, women

As previously seen, the majority of fan fiction writers and readers are young, queer women. We have
also seen that these women are preferring to focus on queer relationships between men. We understand
why, a lack of female characters and a desire to protect oneself from unwanted emotional fallout. But
how are women turning themselves into men, albeit briefly, for the purposes of fandom?
We ve discussed fan fiction and fan art, but there are more performative ways to become a character.
Cosplay, a contraction of costume play, is a form of fandom specific performance art in which
performers wear the costume of a certain character. Cosplay is a distinct form of fancy dress as it is an

Macro Level Analysis
Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale
configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small
scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category.
Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face
interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and
conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level
analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and

Symbolic interactionists would focus on the micro level, they would analyze what people do and what
technology does for people on a day to day basis. They would also analyze the way people use
technology to communicate and how social media has dominated real social life. In contrast,
functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of
Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in
technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to
buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed.
Functionalist might also analyze the change in lifestyles, that technology has increased laziness in
America, how you can turn the lights on, lock the door, turn the TV on, order food and necessities that

explains the highly debated notion of love at first sight through the relationship between the two star
crossed lovers , Romeo and Juliet. Though many can argue that this relationship between the two is
only for lust, it is clearly shown in the play that the family rivaled couple is truly in love. Through
Juliet s decisiveness and maturity, Juliet shows that her relationship with Romeo is not about lust, but
about true love. First, Juliet experiences her first moment of true love when she meets Romeo at the

Minamata disease comes from ingesting mercury contaminated fish or shellfish. Minamata was a

How Vacation Is A Good Time
Going on vacation is a way to relax, reduce stress, and spend time with my family. The different
cultures, places, and laughs that we experience on vacations are truly memorable. When I was
younger, my sister and I would take vacations with my grandparents. On these road trips, we would go
hiking, go to water parks, and have picnics. On every trip, either someone was embarrassed or injured.
When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was afraid that my grandpa was seriously hurt on one of our trips.
Ultimately, on most of our adventures, we all had a laugh and a good time. Although it s important to
take vacations and trips with my family, we should remember to be safe and smart, have a good time,
and make vacations memorable. We were on our way to a park called Turkey Run, in Indiana, with
trails, a water park and picnic areas. We stopped at a gas station with lots of treats and a McDonalds
with a Play Place. At the time, my sister and I loved to play in the jungle gyms after we ate at
McDonalds. The vehicle that we drove down to the park was a conversion van that had a toilet, a bed,
and a sink. We stayed in the van during the nights, while we were on vacation, instead of going to a
hotel or staying in tents. We either slept in a pull out bed, on the floor, or between the two front seats. I
liked this aspect of the trip because it not only created memories from the vacation, but I liked the
sleeping conditions throughout the adventure. This van was a part of who my grandparents

My Music Experience
As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and
vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics,
rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the
elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate
in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into
that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was
flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I
didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As
much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals.
Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the
orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade.
During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until
the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I
was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State
was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with

Satire Tone In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Shakespeare uses conceits with a satirical tone in sonnet 130 and personification with a determined
tone in sonnet 116 to realistically convey that good looks are not necessary for love.
In sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses conceits to describe the eyes of his mistress as nothing like the sun
and coral as far more red than her lips red (lines 1 2). The idea of him not loving this woman because
she is not traditionally good looking is disproven by the fact that Shakespeare cared enough to write a
sonnet about her. Truly, if this woman was not loved she would have gone unremembered and
unwritten about. The satirical tone of sonnet 130 can be perceived as rude, but the tone more
accurately is used to show a loving couple that make fun of each other s small faults: the breath that ...

bending sickle s compass come (lines 9 10). The personification of love and time brings forth the idea
of them physically stealing a loved one s outer beauty; however, if two people are truly in love, the
loss of one s beauty should not matter as described later in sonnet 116 and in the tone. The tone of
determination is used to describe how if two people have a strong enough bond, their love should last
through the hard times in life: Love is not love / Which alters when it alteration finds, / Or bends with
the remover to remove (lines 2 4). The affection between two people should not be changed or taken

Social Security And The Great Depression
Social Security
Alfred Malone
Sociology
Mrs. Joy Branch
14 November 2014
Social security was created in response to the Great Depression. The purpose of it is to protect aged
and disabled persons from illness expenses, to give children a chance to grow up healthy and secure,
keep families together, and to augment the material needs of individuals and families. The Social
Security Act was first passed in 1935 and later amended in 1956 to provide disability benefits. Some
programs included under the Social Security Act are: retirement insurance, survivor s insurance,
disability insurance, and some public assistance and welfare services. The Social Security program is
meant to provide benefits, social security numbers, and generate its own finances. The first Social
Security Numbers(SSN) were first issued in 1936. These cards each all have their own number used to
track the earning histories of U.S. Workers. The cards also were used to determine Social Security
benefit entitlement and benefit levels. The use of the SSN later expanded in terms of use. As of
December2008, the Social Security Administration (SSA) had issued over 450 million original SSNs,
and nearly every legal resident of the United States had one (Carolyn Puckett). The SSN led to what is
mostly used today to identify and gather information on a person. This method is particularly used
when applying for jobs. The largest source of income for most of today s elderly comes from social

Kingdom Of God Study Guide
Joseph Ratzinger, also known as Pope Benedict XVI, wrote a book, Jesus of Nazareth: From Baptism
In The Jordan To The Transfiguration. In the book, there is a chapter entitled, The Gospel Of The
Kingdom Of God. In the Bible, Jesus often spoke about the Kingdom of God. There are four questions
I will attempt to answer. 1. What is the Kingdom of God? 2. How does the Kingdom of God appear in
the Old Testament? 3. How do Jesus words and deeds relate to the Kingdom of God? and 4. How does
the concept Kingdom of God connect to the Old and New Testament? In the Bible in the gospel of

Essay About Tulane University
The essential question is Why are you interested in attending Tulane University? , but in all honesty it
should be Why not Tulane? . No I have never had the chance to visit Louisiana, none the less Tulane,
but I have always yearned to visit the unique state. What better way to explore the state than by
attending a college located there? Like the state where Tulane University is located, it seems to be a
very diverse yet fun place to live out my college life. My interest in the college range from the
academic reputation of the school, the location and social environment, and the overall attractiveness
of the college. A couple months back I met with a Tulane Admissions representative who first sparked
my interest in the college. She opened my eyes, and made me ponder the reality that I could actually
see myself as part of the school. Compared to the other schools that were also being represented
(NYU, University of Miami, Georgia Tech, and the George Washington University), Tulane grab my
interests the most. Before attending the information session about the colleges, I can honestly say I
had never heard of Tulane. However, the representative did such an amazing job informing us about

Iris Protea Suffering From Anorexia Nervosa
Reflection:
The Gardeners details the experiences of protagonist Iris Protea suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, in
essence symbolic of the internal struggles we face daily. The conflict illuminated through my text is
psychological conflict. The brain is such a powerful yet vulnerable tool, and the effect it has on an
individual when morphed into something dangerous and overbearing is a beautiful insecurity inspiring
my text. Iris is battling with her emotional disharmonies, echoed by her misinterpretations of the
world around her. Iris mistakes beauty and positivity for cruelty and malignancy, portrayed through
the foreshadowing of the wind and the extended metaphor of a garden. The notion of a garden is so
central to life itself, the clash of both weeds and flowers, the catalyst of sunlight to grow, and the
pruning we require to replenish ourselves as humans and learn from the dreaded seeds that plant
themselves in our lives. Physical conflict is also delved in the piece, a product of Iris ... Show more

Economic Impact On The Real Estate Market Essay
Economic Environment Impact
Interest rates have a major economic impact on the real estate market. Interest rates directly affect
property sales. Residential property realizes the greatest affect as interest rates have a considerable
influence on a homebuyer s capability to purchase a new property. The customer is affected when
there are significant increases or decreases in interest rates. Declining interest rates lower the costs of
obtaining a mortgage; this in turn creates higher demand for homes, and pushes home prices up.
Conversely, high interest rates increase the costs to obtain a mortgage; these increases lower the
demand for homes, which creates a decline in home prices. (Stammers, 2016)
The overall health of the economy has a significant impact on the real estate industry. The economy is
measured using indicators such as the GDP, employment percentages, manufacturing activity, and
price of goods. When these indicators identify a sluggish economy it translate directly to declining
real estate sales. RE/MAX and the customer alike are directly affected by the economy. A slow
economy consists of decreased homes sales while a flourishing economy affords the customer the
opportunity to buy, which relates to an increase in home sales for the realtor. (Amadeo, 2016)
Government policies and subsides have a sizable impact on property price, and demand. The
government can temporarily boost demand with tax credits, deduction and subsidies. From the
customers point of view

Progesterone
Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It is
secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The
corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation and is
involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum reverts to a
corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone is secreted by
the placenta.
Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon
rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two
ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function
is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a
fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk producing glands in the

Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System
The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an
IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the
disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive.
Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by
partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem
hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the
physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a
SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to
configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the
manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the
drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should
allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special
IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent
results. The second step is to identify the IDE headers on the computer motherboard with the help of
the computer or motherboard manual. Without access to the

Essay on Buddhist view on Abortion
It is quite clear from a variety of sources that abortion has been severely disapproved of in the
Buddhist tradition. It is also equally clear that abortion has been tolerated in Buddhist Japan and
accommodated under exceptional circumstances by some modern Buddhists in the U.S. The situation
is similar to that of Roman Catholicism, where abortion, though disapproved of in the strongest terms
by Church authorities, is still practiced by a large number of devoted Catholics and defended by at
least a few.
As a Buddhist, I would most likely still be for abortion. Buddhism itself speaks with more than one
moral voice on this issue against abortion. The core belief in Buddhism is against abortion, but there

If genes were entirely what made up a person, than abortion would not be acceptable, but that is not
the case. In very early stages of a pregnancy, Buddhists don t think of the fetus as a person yet.
I am a Japanese Buddhist. Where I m from, Buddhism is a little bit different. A lot of Buddhists
consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence
which is fluid like water and returns to that existence. The fetus is understood to be in a stage of
becoming a discrete thing passing out of the ancient waters. Life that appears in our world or in a
woman s uterus is the formation of a being that was before in the liquid like state of another reality.
Children are liquid and only gradually solidify into humans, this process not being realized until after
birth. Accordingly, the newborn gradually make the transition from the world of the gods and Buddhas
into that of human beings. Most Japanese Buddhists (like myself) believe that you can be cursed by
your baby after the abortion procedure. Because of this, they perform a Mizuko Kuyo after an
abortion. Mizuko means water child, kuyo means memorial service conducted in most cases by
Buddhist priests.Mizuko Kuyos are ritual ceremonies of apology and remembrance for aborted
fetuses, or the stillborn and miscarried.

  • 2. Food Inc Documentary Analysis Food Inc.: Health on the Downfall due to Dirty Business Big businesses play a major role in all aspects of government and have managed to get a patent on life, meaning that they can control the way people live. What better way to control the lives of citizens then to create laws controlling the way food is produced and manufactured. In the food documentary, Food Inc, produced by Robert Kenner there is a discussion and display about the way food is made and how it has affected both the citizens and the way that big businesses have corrupted the agricultural and meat industry. The documentary goes through various ways that business have caused farmers to produce crops and meats inhumanely. Food in the United States as begun to be produced so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the interview the farmer discusses how Tyson will require her to update her farms in order to increase production and require her to pay for it which cause her to go into to more debt. A statistic given by the documentary states that, a farmer pays around $500,000 to open 3 chicken farms, and the average chicken farmer makes around $18,000 per year. This statistic given in the documentary goes to show how the companies like Tyson maximize profit by outsourcing the work where they do have to pay the expenses of operating the farms. Along with the endless debt that is piled up there are countless side effects that come from growing the chickens and operating a chicken farm. Side effects like diseases, becoming immune to antibiotics, and the filth that surrounds the operation of a chicken farm. The debt that farmers accumulate gets to such a large number that there is no way out of the business and must deal with being connected to their company. With all the upgrades that are demanded by big poultry companies like Tyson or Perdue, and, between 2004 and 2006 chicken farmers spent over $650 million on upgrades to their chicken farms, an average of $38,000 per farm. This debt that is racked up is taking out by loans that farmers must pay back to the banks with no assistance from the big poultry companies. Though the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gender Bias In The Media Gender Bias in the Media is happening right now all around us, woman are being treated differently because of they re gender, many women are expected to maintain certain beauty standards and are less likely to receive leadership roles. I recently was given the ability to listen to an interview regarding this issue. Robyn Urback is a Canadian journalist and political commentator based in Toronto, Ontario recently gave a speech and received an interview regarding this issue. Robyn Urback discussed many different problems about one of the biggest one that stands out to me was the sexual abuse and double standards. She mentioned a few examples, one being how news media companies like Fox News encouraged their woman to show their legs and wear short skirts, furthermore, to not sit in the middle of the table since the stand would block the view of their legs. For many years, news reports indicated the network didn t allow its female hosts to wear pants. Gabriel Sherman s biography of Ailes, The Loudest Voice in the Room, said the founder and former chairman of Fox News once disapproved when former host Catherine Crier appeared on TV wearing pants. The book states: Be more opinionated, he told Crier in one meeting. The guests are there as a foil for you. He also disagreed with her dress. He had admiration for her legs, a senior executive said. In one meeting, Ailes barked, Tell Catherine I did not spend x number of dollars on a glass desk for her to wear pant suits ( The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also important to keep accurate record of Liam s fluid balance chart, and assess Liam s capillary refill, skin turgor, fontanel condition and mucous membranes every shift, as they provide information about the infant s hydration status (Axton Fugate 2009). Urine analysis may be performed to provide information on hydration status and/or determine if Liam has urine tract infection (UTI) (Axton Fugate 2009; Crisp, Taylor, Douglas, Rebeiro, 2013). Many nations in the European Union (EU) have effectively banned imports of what they refer to as Frankenfoods, a reference to the famous story of the fictional monster assembled by Dr. Frankenstein from miscellaneous spare parts. The U.S claims that the EU s anti GM food policy violates free trade laws. Many questions remain regarding the future of GM foods. Should they continue to be sold in the U.S., even though they may have unforeseen negative consequences? Or should the U.S. take a cue from the EU and limit the selling of GM foods until they are unequivocally proven to be risk free? Do the possible future health benefits of GM foods such as fruits and vegetables with extra vitamins and vaccines built into their DNA cancel out any potential risks that the new technology brings? Supporters of GM foods say that since there has been no evidence of GM foods harming humans, it is reasonable to assume that they are safe for consumption. GM food backers denounce criticism of genetic engineering as fear mongering. Besides, they argue, no new technology is without a certain degree of risk. GM food supporters believe that the possible health benefits of GM foods overwhelm any possible dangers. Supporters of biotech crops also maintain that if GM food technology is allowed to develop, it may prove to be instrumental in eliminating world hunger. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Early civilization of North America Early civilization of North America With the discovery of America, several emigrants started moving to this newly discovered land. As a result of this, numerous colonies were formed in America. The Spanish settlers were the first to immigrate to America. They formed colonies in the West Indies, Mexico and South America. On the other hand, English emigrants arrived to New England, Virginia and other parts of America, which later formed the United States. Immigration to the New World took pace in the early 1600s and grew from a group of few hundred colonists to a flood of millions of newcomers. These new settlers started building a new civilization in the northern region. Immigration of English settlers started long after the settlement of Spaniards in South America and Mexico. Majority of the English colonists were those who escaped their homeland to avoid political coercion, to practice their religions with freedom and to explore new opportunities that were absent in their homeland. It was the time when England was facing an economic depression and job opportunities were rare even for skilled people. Immigration of English and other European settlers was primary due to the political instability in their homeland. The instable regime of Charles I forced many English people to move to the New World. In addition to this, the repressive policies of rulers in other parts of Europe and the destruction because of several wars played a major role in encouraging Europeans to move ... His most renowned works in the field of mysticism are Mysticism and Philosophy (1960) . In this work of mysticism Stace discusses his thoughts about mystical experiences with illustrations from world literature. It is considered to be the masterpiece by W. T. Stace. Stace considers visions, voices, insights, and powerful dreams to be non mystical as he says nonsensuous and nonintellectual union only can help one attain mysticism. Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people* Jeffrey Pfeffer Executive Overview Achieving competitive success through people involves fundamentally altering how we think about the workforce and the employment relationship. The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these five successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce. The Importance of the Workforce and How It is Managed As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial, differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance, Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve that success from economies of scale. In 1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4 People Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost 20 it took Southwest. Southwest exists not because of regulated or protected markets but in spite of them. During the first three years of its history, no Southwest planes were flown. 5 Southwest waged a battle for its very existence with competitors who sought to keep it from flying at all and, failing that, made sure it did not fly out of the newly constructed Dallas Fort Worth international airport. Instead, it was restricted to operating out of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Micro level analysis observes small scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category. The different cultures, places, and laughs that we experience on vacations are truly memorable. When I was younger, my sister and I would take vacations with my grandparents. On these road trips, we would go hiking, go to water parks, and have picnics. On every trip, either someone was embarrassed or injured. When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was afraid that my grandpa was seriously hurt on one of our trips. Ultimately, on most of our adventures, we all had a laugh and a good time. Although it s important to take vacations and trips with my family, we should remember to be safe and smart, have a good time, and make vacations memorable. We were on our way to a park called Turkey Run, in Indiana, with trails, a water park and picnic areas. We stopped at a gas station with lots of treats and a McDonalds with a Play Place. When my family would go on trips and vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics, rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals. Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade. During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. Satire Tone In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Shakespeare uses conceits with a satirical tone in sonnet 130 and personification with a determined tone in sonnet 116 to realistically convey that good looks are not necessary for love. In sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses conceits to describe the eyes of his mistress as nothing like the sun and coral as far more red than her lips red (lines 1 2). The idea of him not loving this woman because she is not traditionally good looking is disproven by the fact that Shakespeare cared enough to write a sonnet about her. The personification of love and time brings forth the idea of them physically stealing a loved one s outer beauty; however, if two people are truly in love, the loss of one s beauty should not matter as described later in sonnet 116 and in the tone. The tone of determination is used to describe how if two people have a strong enough bond, their love should last through the hard times in life: Love is not love / Which alters when it alteration finds, / Or bends with the remover to remove (lines 2 4). Interest rates directly affect property sales. Residential property realizes the greatest affect as interest rates have a considerable influence on a homebuyer s capability to purchase a new property. The customer is affected when there are significant increases or decreases in interest rates. Declining interest rates lower the costs of obtaining a mortgage; this in turn creates higher demand for homes, and pushes home prices up. Conversely, high interest rates increase the costs to obtain a mortgage; these increases lower the demand for homes, which creates a decline in home prices. (Stammers, 2016) The overall health of the economy has a significant impact on the real estate industry. The economy is measured using indicators such as the GDP, employment percentages, manufacturing activity, and price of goods. When these indicators identify a sluggish economy it translate directly to declining real estate sales. RE/MAX and the customer alike are directly affected by the economy. Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk producing glands in the breasts. Progesterone is also a neurosteroid that allows for normal brain function. It protects the brain from damage and stimulates repair after injury. Some other functions include raising the epidermal growth factor , normalizing blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, progesterone will only carry out its function if the cell contains the intracellular progesterone receptor. These receptors are embedded in the cytoplasm. The progesterone and the progesterone receptor form a covalent bond creating a single unit called a dimer. The dimer then enters the nucleus and binds to the DNA which stimulates the writing of genes and creates RNA that are specific to progesterone. The RNA that was formed is transformed into new protein. This entire process changes the metabolic character of the cell allowing for the cell to carry out tasks specific to the progesterone ... • 37. Disillusion In James Windy s Exotic Hawaii Exotic Hawaii is a flyspeck in a vast ocean, a land of adventure, exploration and derring do that has provided inspiration for countless mystery and adventure tales. Here are a few more. Our monthlong, once a year retreat to Oahu, Hawaii is apparently not enough adventure for some of the inanimate accoutrements that travel with us. Maybe a collusion, maybe conspiracy or possibly it s just coincidence but we ve experienced a pattern of abandonment and treason amongst some of our belongings. There s even some indication that there s been some collusion with the locals who, it appears, have provided aid to abet their nefarious plans. This pattern of treacherous behavior began innocently enough while eating lunch in one of our favorite eateries in Honolulu, an establishment long known for attracting only the most elite of clientele. We re ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... C.C. is paper clipped to the billing paperwork and seizes his chance. He raises the billing paper like a sail, calls to Windy, Hey, over here, they re busy watching the paper ducks. It must be a preconceived plan. C.C. flies west following the flock of paper ducks. He zooms out of the dining area waving the paperwork, calling, See ya, suckers. C.C. is off to seek fame, fortune and adventure but his timing is poor; he s almost maxed out and not going very far. • 38. Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive. Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent results. The second step is to identify the IDE headers on the computer motherboard with the help of the computer or motherboard manual. Without access to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural Audit Nike s Cultural Audit Today a shoe is more than something to protect and keep one s feet warm, it is a fashion statement, an athletic enhancer, rebellion, status, and the ins and outs of coolness. Shoes, mainly athletic shoes have changed drastically throughout the years. From weight, size, look, and comfort ability, Nike has been the leading footwear company to develop and lead such a growing industry. Peter Hitchcock, the author of Oscillate Wildly, wrote, The shoe is magical, within both the history of the commodity and the psychological compulsions of modern man. The shoe is the emblem of fetishism that links the commodity to desire. And the most magical shoe of all is the athletic shoe because it is simultaneously a ... During the mid 1980s, Nike lost its position as the industry leader, mainly in part because the company had badly miscalculated on the aerobics boom (About NIKE Inc.). In 1985 the debut of a new signature shoe for an NBA rookie, Michael Jordan, helped rocket Nike s sales and publicity. In 1988 Nike created the tag line Just do it. Nike regained its position as the industry leader in 1989, making them the first and only company in the athletic footwear/apparel industry to ever accomplish this feat (About NIKE Inc.). In 1990 Nike declared Portland, Oregon as its headquarters. Portland became home to the first retail as theatre experience called Niketown. 1994 brought the signing of several individual players from the future World Cup winning Brazilian National Team. The following year Nike signed the entire team and began to design the team s uniform. Along with signing the Brazilian team, Nike also signed the men s and women s US soccer teams, as well as other teams around the world. In 1996 Nike Golf signed an upcoming young golfer by the name of Eldrick Tiger Woods. At first competitors criticized and laughed at Nike for signing such a young player, that all changed in 1997 when Tiger won the Masters by a record of twelve strokes. • 40. Essay on Buddhist view on Abortion It is quite clear from a variety of sources that abortion has been severely disapproved of in the Buddhist tradition. It is also equally clear that abortion has been tolerated in Buddhist Japan and accommodated under exceptional circumstances by some modern Buddhists in the U.S. The situation is similar to that of Roman Catholicism, where abortion, though disapproved of in the strongest terms by Church authorities, is still practiced by a large number of devoted Catholics and defended by at least a few. As a Buddhist, I would most likely still be for abortion. Buddhism itself speaks with more than one moral voice on this issue against abortion. The core belief in Buddhism is against abortion, but there are commonly people of this religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If genes were entirely what made up a person, than abortion would not be acceptable, but that is not the case. In very early stages of a pregnancy, Buddhists don t think of the fetus as a person yet. I am a Japanese Buddhist. Where I m from, Buddhism is a little bit different. A lot of Buddhists consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence which is fluid like water and returns to that existence. The fetus is understood to be in a stage of becoming a discrete thing passing out of the ancient waters. Life that appears in our world or in a woman s uterus is the formation of a being that was before in the liquid like state of another reality. Children are liquid and only gradually solidify into humans, this process not being realized until after birth. Accordingly, the newborn gradually make the transition from the world of the gods and Buddhas into that of human beings. Most Japanese Buddhists (like myself) believe that you can be cursed by your baby after the abortion procedure. Because of this, they perform a Mizuko Kuyo after an abortion. Mizuko means water child, kuyo means memorial service conducted in most cases by Buddhist priests.Mizuko Kuyos are ritual ceremonies of apology and remembrance for aborted fetuses, or the stillborn and miscarried. Buddhists are strong believers in Karma, the law of cause and effect. They are often morally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
