The Problem of Evil Essay examples
The Problem of Evil
A) For what reasons may suffering create philosophical problems for a religious believer? (10)
B) Outline two solutions to these problems and comment on their success (10)
A) The problem of suffering has been around since the dawn of time, or as religious philosophers
believe; since Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden. The first problem that arises from evil
is that we believe that the God of classical theism has certain attributes. These are that:
· God is all powerful (Omnipotence)
· God is all loving (Omnibenevolence)
· God is all knowing (Omniscience)
· God creates ex nilho (out of nothing)
· God is infinite
The last point is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moral evil includes things that happen like murder and the holocaust that occurred whilst the Nazi s
were in charge of Germany. The types of natural evil that occur include things such as Floods,
Earthquakes and the Tsunami that occurred recently. These problems of moral and natural evil, they
contradict the God of classical theism again because if God was all of the things it is said that he is
then surely he would not create people such as Adolf Hitler who was responsible for so many deaths.
God would also not allow such things to happen in the world like natural evil, once again this
questions the attribute of God that says that God is all powerful, the question that arises from this is
that; Does God posses the power to actually stop natural evil from happening? There have been
philosophers such as Hume, who came up with the inconsistent triad. It still has two attributes of the
God of classical theism, however it has removed the attribute that says that God is all knowing and
replaced it with evil exists. The explanation that Hume gave for this is that you can not have all three
attributes together, he said that God must not know how to stop evil and suffering or because if he did
then he would have stopped it already.
It could be said that the level of suffering that somebody endures could make a difference for the

Research Paper On Elephant Poaching
The Poaching Of Elephants And Rhinos.
From killing just one deer over the legal bag limit to harvesting tons of animal parts, poaching in any
form is illegal and laws are getting tougher to discourage it. If convicted, you can now be charged with
a felony and be sent to prison. All across the world citizens and law enforcement officials are working
t
ogether to combat this problem (Simon Shadow).
Although it was made illegal around the 1800s, poaching remains a big problem across the world.
Elephants and rhinos are becoming extinct because people are illegally hunting them for their tusks to
sell the ivory. While the species population growth remains healthy, poaching remains a constant
threat. So what s the solution? Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But what would that do? One of the main challenges is that nobody can predict how legalizing trade
will affect the behavior of the end users in Asia. The government doesn t know if it will make people
more or less likely to poach elephants and rhinos. Many conservation groups have expressed concern
over the concept of legalizing the rhino horn trade. One key issue regarding this solution to rhino
poaching will be to understand how the trade in rhino horn will be regulated. One of the main reasons
for their opposition is that the government doesn t think it will be enforceable. This is because markets
where the trade would be active like in Vietnam simply do not have the necessary enforcement
regimes in place, history shows that occasional sales of elephant ivory have not reduced poaching for
ivory (african wildlife detective). While some people think legalizing the ivory trade is a good idea
most people do not agree with this

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Many people in today s society tend to only listen to the beat of the song rather than the meaning, and
vise versa. They either like the lyrics or like the beat and do not fully understand the meaning. For
example, Foster the People s Pumped Up Kicks is a very catchy song with a good chorus but the
meaning is misconstrued. The meaning and the musicality is not intertwined. It is a song about a a
disturbed kid going on a killing spree. Unlike Foster the People, people adore Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow, a nineteenth century poet, not because he had a good rhythm, but because he intertwines
musicality and imagery. He merges sight and sound to establish a cinematic orchestra and paints a
vivid image full of depth and personality. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow incorporates religion through
the influence of nature and the strong presence of musicality in The Cross of Snow , My Lost Youth ,
Autumn and The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls . Many of Longfellow s influences on his works have
sprouted from his early life experiences. Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine to Stephen
Longfellow and Zilpah Longfellow. As a child Longfellow was known for his vivid imagination. Little
did he know that his childhood experiences sparked many of ideas for his future works. Stephen
Longfellow was a leading Portland lawyer who wished to start Longfellow s education early. Thus,
Longfellow began schooling at the age of three and attended college at fourteen. Gartner states that

Juvenile Justice System
There is no such thing as a perfect world. People of all ages are constantly committing crimes ranging
from thefts to heinous murders. An issue that has been up for debate is whether or not the justice
system can try juvenile delinquents in adult courts and sentence them to life without parole. In most
states, there are juvenile justice systems where teens are tried as a juveniles and put in juvenile
facilities. The main purpose of these facilities is to give juveniles the opportunity to rehabilitate, not to
only punish them. The issue is that juveniles are being tried as adults and placed in adult prisons.
Fortunately, the death penalty is not an option for youth offenders, but life sentence without parole is
still generously handed out to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Providing effective rehabilitation programs and the right help could achieve that and more. Typically,
juveniles who commit murder are raised in negative and hurtful atmospheres. The environments in
which they grow up could be unhealthy and unstable. Fourteen year old Alfonso Davis grew up in an
fatherless environment where his mother was an addict and his grandmother could hardly take care of
the both of them. The lack of parental attention led Davis to commit an irreversible mistake. He found
family in a gang, and one night, two much older gang members brought him along on what he
believed was going to be a robbery, two men were killed, though Davis never fired his gun...
sentenced to life with the possibility of parole (NewsOne Staff). The lack of family attention for Davis
led him to believe that a gang could fit that position and fill the hole in his heart. However, it led him
to a life in a cell with no hope in being free again. Since Davis was sent to prison, he turned his life
around without the help of anyone surrounding him. He received the chance to have an education and
now he writes poetry and helps others in prison quit gangs. Davis is not eligible for parole but after
two decades in prison, he is hoping to prove that he has been rehabilitated and deserves his freedom.
Change did not come to Davis; he wanted to become a better person and changed his life around.
Davis found hope behind bars.

In Cold Blood Rhetorical Analysis Essay
In the opening of Truman Capote s In Cold Blood, Capote illustrates the town of Holcomb, Kansas as
a minuscule, insignificant town. Capote mentions that no one, even fellow Kansans, are acquainted
with this small town. Capote applies many rhetorical effects to describe his view of the town of
Holcomb, such as imagery and tone. Capote utilizes imagery to paint a picture of the small town of
Holcomb. Capote wants his readers to relate to the tiny town. He portrays Holcomb as out there. By
describing a town as out there, the readers immediately know that the town being described is small
and empty. The readers can think of a town that is far from the busy city. Capote wants the readers to
think of Holcomb as a town where tumbleweeds pass through without anyone noticing. Some readers
may even relate to this tiny town because they came from a small town of their own. In the second
paragraph, the author characterizes the streets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the opening, the author s tone is relaxed. He talks about how small the town is.
Capote mentions that nothing ever happens in Holcomb. He describes the town as a desert. There is
not much to see. In the fourth paragraph, the author begins to talk about the school in Holcomb. When
he describes the school, Holcomb starts to sound like a very conceited town. Capote characterizes the
school as a good looking establishment. He describes the school like this because the readers will
compare the charming school to the boring town. The readers will wonder why this small town owns
such a outstanding school. In the last paragraph, the tone dramatically changes. Capote writes, ...few
Americans in fact, few Kansans had ever heard of Holcomb. The author implies that Holcomb will
soon be what everyone is talking about. The author also says that the town was happy that they have
kept a low profile. The author hints that everything will soon change for the little town of

Freedom s Journal History
The state of New York s last slaves were freed in 1827. Soon after, African Americans all over starting
to come together to tell a story that will be remembered for generations to come. Freedom s Journal
was the first African American owned newspaper in the United States. The newspaper was founded by
many free African American men in New York City. One of which was Rev. Peter Williams Jr.. The
first copy of Freedom s Journal was published on March 16th, 1827 and was put out of business in
1829 by a new newspaper called The Rights of All . The Rights of All was published by Samuel
Cornish, also the former senior editor for Freedom s Journal. Although millions of people in the south
were still enslaved in the year 1827, the newspaper Freedom s Journal was created for the hundreds of
thousands of slaves freed in the North. The founders of the newspaper chose Samuel Cornish and John
B. Russwurm as junior and senior editors. According to the nineteenth century African American
journalist, Garland Penn, Cornish and Russwurm s objective with Freedom s Journal was to oppose

Examining Canadian Discrimination within a Society in...
Every individual in society is guaranteed a certain amount of protection and equality from the state
regardless of their situation or background. Depending on how the terms discrimination and equality
are interpreted in the courts will those rights apply.
In the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 15 consists of two subsections which will be examined
in terms of discrimination within society. As stated in section 15 (1) Every individual is equal before
and under the law and has the right to the equal protection of the law without discrimination...... .1 The
term discrimination here refers to all the forms of discrimination such as race, ethnicity, or any forms

There are ways for the courts to prevent things such as trivial matters in courts through proper
interpretation. There are two ways courts can interpret matters, there is the textual and contextual
approach. In this situation, the approach would be more contextual as it would focus on the use of
reason to interpret the law beyond what is in the statute and more based on societal factors.8 Societal
factors refer to a person s economic, financial, educational, or a person s background. Some people in
society have a low standing in all these factors, which would put them at a disadvantage and most
laws reflect those needs.
All these factors contribute to how the Andrews case and other issues could be used to support the
inclusion of the terms social condition and social class within section 15 of the Charter. There are
other elements that can support this such as the type of equality that is involved and how it relates to
human dignity
This case is significant in terms of this paper since the courts discussed some key principles
concerning section 15. One of those principles claims that Section 15 is not, however, a general
guarantee of equality: differential treatment does not necessarily result in inequality... .3 In most
circumstances, this can be considered true as the Charter cannot provide protection for every single
issue, otherwise people would go to

Approximately 400 of the men had syphilis and 200 did not at the start of the study. The purpose of
the study was to record the history and progression of untreated syphilis, which at the time had no
treatment. However, later in 1947 when a treatment (penicillin) was found and proven effective
against syphilis, the men were never told nor given the medication. It was withheld from them. As a
result, many of the participants, their wives, children and others had been infected and untreated. As
news of the study spread, it led to public outrage and an advisory panel was created. (Brandt, 1978)

Nature as a Healing Force Both born in the late 1700s, Shelley and Wordsworth lived in a time of
great appreciation for the sublimity of nature. Awe inspiring natural landscapes were often included in

United States Department Of State
Introduction The United States Department of State classifies 58 different organizations as foreign
terrorist organizations (US DOS). Of those 58 FTOs only one is located in South America, and none
are located in Mexico. Despite the lack of official FTOs in Mexico, non state violence is at an all time
high and the country is more dangerous than ever. This is because of the presence and prevalence of
drug cartels throughout the country. These drug cartels employ violent tactics as part of their drug
trafficking network. But these cartels are more than just criminal organizations. The scope of the
violence, the fear they instill in the population, and the influence they have on policy shows that these
organizations should be considered as more than petty criminals trying to make money. While
economic gain remains one of the main goals of these groups, there is much that falls under the
umbrella of terrorism. Terrorism, while difficult to define, still has a few key features that are mostly
agreed upon. These features will be explored in depth through a discussion of the definition.
Following the definition of terrorism, the paper will examine the cartels in Mexico. Their history, their
goals, and their strategies will all be important for determining whether they should fall under the
umbrella of terrorism. Finally, this paper will argue that the cartels in Mexico display the
characteristics of terror and terrorist organizations and they should be considered and classified

Personal Strengths Analysis
Personal strengths are attributes that come naturally and easy to yourself. When I think of my own
personal strengths I think of determination, leadership, and passion. When I become determined, the
stubborn inside my head becomes triggered. I become almost obsessive of completing whatever task
perfectly and come up with almost a blueprint on how to finish it. For example, I became determined
on becoming this years band captain. I pushed myself beyond my limits and I made sure Mr. Oubre
was watching. I would make sure the effort I put into the marching band was returned. I perfected my
music and marching despite the obstacle I had last semester, that obstacle being I did not have band
class because of schedule conflicts. I held high expectations and responsibility within myself and the
section I was looking over. Another example would be something smaller than gaining a title in
marching band, such as cleaning my room. A typical teenager would probably just pick up whatever is
on their floor, maybe even vacuum. The determination to do all or nothing will set in. The floors are ...

Carnegie Writes A Great Deal About How Individual Children
Carnegie writes a great deal about how individual children are often spoiled and therefore harmed by
wealth. He states that one reason estates and wealth are left to children is so that the vanity of the
parent may be gratified by the thought that his name and title are to descend to succeeding generations
unimpaired (489). Doing so is injudicious because it is simply the egotism of that parent which then
leaves unearned and undeserved wealth and estate to their children children who often have no other
qualifications and no commitment to use it wisely or respect the value of that money. Carnegie goes
on to explain how often, when a child without proper morals and education is granted inheritance,
they will lose it. For example, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, giving money to children spoils them because they must learn the value of the dollar and earn
their own way up to the top. Few children of the wealthy will already have that knowledge. Those few
may actually be more qualified to inherit the money as Carnegie puts it, if any man has seen fit to rear
his sons with a view to their living idle lives, or [...] has instilled in them the sentiment that they are in
a position to labor for public ends; but if they have not been taught these things and they are not
qualified, it is dangerous to leave them the business or wealth (490). One of the biggest examples of
children who inherited money from their parents and became spoiled and used it irresponsibly is the
Walton family, owners of the Walmart Company. According to the Business Insider the largest

In The Crucible, if one of the young girls convicted someone of witchcraft, they would be hung.
Hanging people in Salem was becoming more and more common since there was a new person being
convicted daily. This also can relate to how mass shootings are becoming more common. Mass
shootings have been around for decades, however in today s society they are happening more
frequently. Since mass shootings are happening time and again, it is becoming less noticeable. People
still have fear of mass shootings, nonetheless the idea of a mass shooting is thought of less now than
in the past. The Crucible also shows how hysteria builds over time, this is also very prominent in the
modern day. In the end of Act III the hysteria begins building when Proctor leaps at Abigail and calls
her a Whore, confessing his affair with her in front of Elizabeth (litcharts). After Proctor confessed the
affair he had with Abigail, the hysteria builds when Danforth demands answers to why Abigail was
fired by Elizabeth, causing more screaming in the courtroom. Each argument in the courtroom built

Should Uk Policy Be Concerned About Unemployment
Should UK policy makers be concerned about unemployment persistence and hysteresis given the
increase in the unemployment rate since the start of the recession in 2008? Unemployment is
measured by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) who conduct a Labour Force Survey (LFS)
and through the Claimant Count. The Claimant Count measures those who are claiming Job Seekers
Allowance whilst the LFS is a sample survey which is used for the official figures in the UK as this
allows comparisons internationally. Through these measures, it is then possible to identify the
unemployment rate, which is defined as the number of unemployed expressed as a percentage of the
labour force . (Sloman 2005 p. 787) Since the 2008 recession, the unemployment rate has reached a
high of 8.5% in the period Sep Nov 2011; however, the current level is 6.0% for the period June Aug
2014. (ONS, 2014). Appendix 1 depicts the fluctuations in the unemployment rate from 2007 before
the recession began to August 2014. This highlights the way in which unemployment rose and then
has remained at a constantly high rate until the UK started to experience falls in unemployment
around the end of 2013. The unemployment rate is now is at its lowest level since records began over
40 years ago . (Gov.uk 2014) There are several types of unemployment such as frictional, structural,
demand deficient, seasonal, technological, real wage and the non accelerating rate of unemployment.

step 1 with the remaining elements of the bin of step 2 and store them in the same bin. This will form

Here, Step 1 is repeated with other elements of bin ie. 4, 9 and 18 values. For elements 4 19, there is

So, elements 3, 12 and 15 have no match. But element 6 has a match at R[1], R[2], R[10] and R[19].
Element 7 has a match at R[5].
Hence, the updated bin after all computations. b(0) is (0,4,9,3,6,7,1,2,10,11,19,5,12,15,18,21) Now the

Why Do Neanderthals
Could neanderthals have influenced our language, writing ability, and spiritual practices? I think so.
Genetic research shows that our DNA can contain up to 4% of neanderthal genetics. Comparing the
neanderthal eye sockets to our own shows that neanderthals sockets were larger. Perhaps this means
that they were more nocturnal than modern man. I can t help thinking about the vast amount of
pyramids across the world, and how some are designated as pyramids of the sun, and some as
pyramids of the moon. Could moon worship have originated in ancient modern man from the
influence of our ancestors the possibly nocturnal neanderthals? What about the pyramids of the sun?
Maybe this sun worship came from our cro magnon ancestors with eyes more similar in size to our
own. Our smaller eyes make it more difficult to see in the dark. As I ponder about this, I think it
relevant to mention that the moon is usually associated with female deities such as Luna,
Diana, Artemis, Selene, and many, many more. Who were the predecessor deities of these already
ancient goddesses? Maybe they were influenced by the goddesses that neanderthals worshipped. I
wonder if neanderthals saw the female as divine above male. The moon gives off a softer, loving light
compared to the Sun s brighter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sol sounds like soul, so could the soul of man be comparable to the sun and the moon? What about
King Solomon. Sol (soul)(sun) , Mon (moon) (man), so could this equate to the king of the soul of
man? New information is emerging about our neanderthal predecessors all the time. For example, their
are discussions now about whether or not neanderthals made picture art. Well, why wouldn t they. We
know that they made jewelry, and that they buried their dead with flowers. This is proof of complex
thought patterns. It can easily be speculated that the burial of the dead with flowers was the
neanderthal s way of dealing with death, and possibly their hope for some spring renewal

Essay on William Morris
William Morris
William Morris (1834 1896) was perhaps the most important British decorative artist of the 19th
century. A prolific designer, craftsman and decorator, his work and ideas have had a major influence
on the development of modern interior design.
William Morris was one of the most influential figures in the
Victorian and Edwardian art world. As a young man at Oxford he became involved with the Pre
Raphaelite movements, mixing with such artists as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt and
Edward Coley
Burne Jones.
Always a man of innovation, Morris soon tired of the subject matter and philosophy of the Pre
Raphaelites. His desire for social reform was also an important factor in his artistic growth and he

Instead of using a genuine shade of indigo, the design was printed in a Prussian blue, the nearest to
indigo that could be achieved using modern aniline dyes. This led William Morris to speak out against
the capitalist forces, which he considered had brought his industry to a very bad state. Henceforward
there is an absolute divorce between the commercial process and the art of printing. Anyone wanting
to produce dyed textiles with any artistic quality in them must entirely forego the modern and
commercial methods in favour of those which are at least as old as Pliny...
In other words, William Morris ended his connection with Clarkson (who printed the design) and
abandoned production of Tulip and Willow. He also set up a tiny dye house in the basement and
scullery of his house in Queen Square, hoping that he might find his own solution to the problem. In
fact it was only in 1883, after he had established himself at Merton Abbey, that he was finally able to
produce a satisfactory printing of Tulip and Willow.
Preliminary Design
Morris s intricate flower patterns, which seem so effortless and casual in their final form, were
achieved after long hours of patient designing and the production of dozens of different designs. This
preliminary stage was important, as Morris recognised. In a lecture called Making the Best of It ,
delivered in 1879, he offered these words of advice to potential designers: no amount of

The Modern City of Paris
In this essay, I intend to look at Question 1, The Modern City 1, Paris. I have decided to choose and
examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue Saint
Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of Modern
Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist issues materially,
structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the industrialisation issue in
general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use certain materials like steel really
brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house. Then, I will talk about the relation of
the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful Chareau was in portraying a set of
machines to live in with amazing planning since the very beginning. His concept of mobility in most
of the mechanical designs really captured my interest. Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of
hygiene in this house as I think that it is somehow a response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth
century and people started to think more about the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will
conclude it with a summary of the three modernist issues which will be discussed later and the
influence of Maison de Verre on the following architects generation.
As mentioned earlier, industrialisation is one of the early modernist issues which relates significantly

Abstract The morale and welfare of the men and women that serve our country is considered one of

This will mean that they ll know in which areas they need to grow and in which direction they want to

since Toyota has messaged them privately, their rival companies will lose out because of the amazing

extending out to people and enticing them to pick Toyota and also has helped to show how successful
their marketing technique is.
However Toyota also has cons, for example a con with their marketing techniques: not all of the
information they provide customers with is 100% true. Toyota have a certain amount of merchandise
which they need to sell to consumers, and if they do not manage to, then they lower the price and
discount it in order to entice customers. However, when it is put into perspective that they have even
cheaper cars, there are still others that are much cheaper, with similar specification. E.g. Ford have
brought out a new innovative car with clever modern technology, and is more economical than a
Toyota discounted car. In addition Toyota also had to reduce the price of their cars recently as
customers were refusing to but their products for the full price. For example, they had to discount

Causes of the Financial Crisis of 2008-2009
Causes of The Financial Crisis of 2007 2009
According to our financial textbook Financial crises are major disruptions in financial markets
characterized by sharp declines in asset prices and firm failures (Mishkin and Eakins 2012). In August
2007, defaults in mortgage market for subprime borrowers sent a shudder through the financial
markets, leading to the worst U.S financial crisis since the Great Depression. Alan Greenspan,
chairman of the Fed, described the financial crisis as a once in a century credit tsunami . (Mishkin and
Eakins 2012). Furthermore, Wall Street firms and commercial banks suffered losses mounting to
billions of dollars. Households and businesses found they had to pay higher interest rates on their ...

Moreover, many participants contributed to the creation of bad mortgages and the selling of bad
securities, feeling secure they would not be held accountable for their actions. The unregulated
mortgage originators had no personal responsibility if those contracts failed. And so it was for brokers,
realtors, individuals in rating agencies, and other market participants, each maximizing his or her own
gain and passing problems on down the line until the system itself collapsed.(Jinkling 2010). In the
end, these unregulated originators were concerned on their commission fee, for personal gains, not if
any of the loans were going to default.
The Originate to Distribute model plays an essential role, on the unregulated mortgage originators
perspective and agenda. Many mortgage brokers and lenders operated under the originate to distribute
model whereby they originated loans solely for the purpose of selling them. This model allowed them
to earn loan origination fees without incurring any type of credit risk. Many times this model, allowed
the unregulated originators to take additional fees for collecting loan payments, escrowing and making
payments for property taxes and insurance premiums. Additionally, unregulated mortgage originators
can charge a fee just by receiving customer inquiries. (Bank Law Committee 2009). According to
Mishkin and Eakins, the originate to distribute business modal was exposed to principal agent

The Key Studies Within Social Psychology
This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and show
why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social psychology
was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the scientific study of how
people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence
of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is
considered the father of social psychology by many as he took a stand against the dominant
behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction between the individual and
their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than environment alone. His revolutionary ideas
matured into the study of group dynamics, which is widely used by many organisations today (Collin,
2012).
Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly
interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two key
studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch
(Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008).
Milgram investigated how far people would be prepared to go when obeying an authority figure. Forty
men aged from 20 to 50 volunteered to take part. When the participant arrived they were greeted by
the experimenter who was wearing a lab coat. The

Why didn t Carlos live to play another game? Football is one of America s favorite pastime; the

Argumentative Essay On Meat
Meat is under attack in our society today. The media is full of articles highlighting the negative effects
of meat, an army of people are trying to tarnish the reputation of meat in any way possible. More
people are cutting meat from their diet now then ever before. I guess you could say then that meat is
not in a good place. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human body and
on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I finished reading I
was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style. I spent sometime
mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it would be like to never again
taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent buffalo burger. I decided that if I was
going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be sure that the benefits were all that people
worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching
the topic I found that although meat does have many negative effects these effects come from over
eating and gorging ourselves on meat. If meat is eaten in moderation it actually has positive effects on
the body. The nutriance found in meat is vital to help the body function properly, maintain brain tissue
and make our minds sharper and more alert. Meat is an essential part of our diets and should be eaten

Genetically Modifying for Smarter Living Things
GENETICALLY MODIFYING FOR SMARTER LIVING THINGS Scientific research holds vast
propensities for advancement. Recently, the genetic modification of organisms has been a topic for
debate among professionals and the general public alike. For instance, some value the benefits of
modifying foods to contain greater nutritional benefits, yield larger crop sizes, and have resistance to
many diseases. Alternatively, others fear the undetermined risks for consuming scientifically altered
organisms long term, and deem the act of tampering with the makeup of living things unethical. Even
more controversial, is the modern idea of using genetic modification techniques to create smarter
organisms, largely, humans. Advances in scientific research particularly in the field of neuroscience
make this argument not only possible, but entirely plausible and more attainable than ever before.
Thus, it is important to become educated on the topic and explore both sides of the argument prior to
making this prospect a reality. This paper argues that it is beneficial for researchers to generate smarter
living organisms through genetic modification based on the biological, social, and ethical benefits that
arise from the act.
Although there are many factors that influence an individual s ability to learn, the most biological
support for the process of learning involves the strengthening and weakening of synaptic connections

or even bi. It is also said within this passage that most boys call others faggots as a joke but won t call

Prostate Cancer and PSA Testing Essay
Introduction
Prostate Cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer affecting men and the second leading cause of
cancer death among American men (Qaseem, Denberg, Owens, Shekelle, 2013). Medical
professionals have been using prostate specific antigen (PSA) screenings along with digital rectal
exam (DRE) for many years to screen for prostate cancer. PSA was first identified in 1966 in semen,
followed by the identification of PSA in blood in 1979. The PSA test has been approved for use since
1994 to detect early prostate cancer. Most men that are greater than 50 years of age in the U.S. have
had PSA screening, and many have been tested repeatedly. DRE is performed to determine prostate

A grade D recommendation means that the USPSTF concluded there is at least moderate certainty that
the harms of doing the intervention equal or outweigh the benefits in the target population. This
recommendation also advises against a DRE because the risk of mortality and morbidity outweigh
survival benefit as results revealed the risk of dying of screening is greater than prior to screening. The
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF, 2012) now advises against PSA based screening tests
for men of all ages of the risks of over diagnosis and treatment, which have resulted in many adverse
effects, serious complications, and even death.
The purpose of this paper is to reflect on pros and cons of PSA testing, and to review current
guidelines from well respected authorities. The European Randomized Study of Screening for PCa
(ERSPC) showed a 20% reduction in PCa specific mortality (Moyer, 2012). However, the prostate
arm of the Prostate Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial in the United States
did not demonstrate a mortality reduction of men randomly screened by PSA testing (Moyer, 2012). In
addition, PCa treatment has many serious or potentially life threatening adverse effects. As a result,
choosing an optimal treatment for localized PCa is difficult and controversial.

PCa etiology is unknown. However studies have shown a relationship between high dietary fat intake

College Budgeting In College
Budgeting can be very difficult, nevertheless for college students, so I will be explaining how to
budget in college by making smart decisions. A college education is probably one of the most
expensive purchases a young adult will most likely ever purchase in their lifetime. College can be very
expensive as a consequence tuition can range anywhere from 10,000 to 70,000 a year. Nearly all
college students pay for college by a college fund, scholarship/grants, out of their own or parent s
pocket or borrowed money. Despite the fact some of those payments aren t directly coming from the
student it is more than likely that they still don t have a stable income to provide themselves with basic
necessities. Most colleges don t provide students with basic necessities which means they acquire to
go out and obtain everything needed as far as food, supplies, books, also toiletries. The average
college student spends anywhere from $200 $700 a month on just the articles they need. While on
articles they want they spend anywhere from $20 $200. More than likely that most college students
don t work, notwithstanding first year students and athletes, which is a large population of the school
anyway. Today most students aren t obtaining a stable cash flow and even the ones who are from
allowances or a job tend to still most likely struggle with budgeting. Budgeting can be a very difficult

Evil And Evil In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Everyone possess those evil and selfish actions, the biggest are maybe closing the mouth, ears, and

his trustful servant Lee. He lives in a life where his actions are defined from his ancestors, and allows
his descents to drown out his uniqueness. Lee s pure perspective of humanity along with his parental

Essay On Henry Rifle
The original Henry rifle was a sixteen shot .44 caliber rimfire, lever action, breech loading rifle
patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 after three years of design work.[1] The Henry was an
improved version of the earlier Volition Repeating Rifle. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire
cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of
gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were
manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month,
bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately
14,000 units had been manufactured. For a Civil War soldier, owning a Henry rifle was a point of
pride.[3] Letters home would call them Sixteen or Seventeen Shooters, depending whether a round
was loaded in the chamber.[citation needed] The US Government purchased about 3,140 (early ...

Soldiers who saved their pay to buy one believed it would help save their lives. Since tactics had not
been developed to take advantage of their firepower, rather than in regular infantry formations Henrys
were frequently used by scouts, skirmishers, flank guards, and raiding parties. To the amazed
muzzleloader armed Confederates who had to face this deadly sixteen shooter , it was called a rifle
that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long. [6] Those few Confederate troops who came
into possession of captured Henry rifles had little way to resupply the special ammunition used by the
weapon, making its widespread use by Confederate forces impractical. The rifle was, however, known
to have been used at least in part by some fifteen different Confederate units in Louisiana, Texas, and
Virginia, as well as the personal bodyguards of Confederate President Jefferson

Lao-Tzu Vs Machiavelli
Peace and War
(Compare Machiavelli and Lao Tzu)
Throughout ancient history, there have been a number of ways that human beings have attempted or
succeed in governing people. There has been an assortment of religions or philosophical ways that
were said to be the best way to lead people, in order to gain power, or whatever their goal might be.
Many of these ideas went against each other, saying the other one was wrong. One example of this
was Niccole Machiavelli and his philosophical view, through The Prince, that said it was better to be
feared than loved as a ruler. Then there is the ancient religion of Taoism that was founded by Lao Tzu.
In Religion of the World, it describes the basic virtue of this religion, Taoists believe that if they ...

Lao tzu founded and wrote about his beliefs in order to guide others that wanted to follow in his path.
He described the way of life, and the best way to do it. It was for both his followers, and for future
rulers and politicians. He believed that if the people should be governed under Taoism. Like Lao tzu,
Machiavelli wanted to write for his followers, and the leaders that would rule behind him. His writing
were instructions on how to be a prince, or a ruler of some kind. His writings would be able to be read
and followed for centuries to come. Gerald Lee Ratliff is the award winning author that has depicted
Machiavelli s life through in one of his writings, and said Machiavelli s purpose was to describe the
realities of political life... many modern politicians have read The Prince, and no doubt they have
learned something from it. (Ratliff) These people weren t always the best, including followers like
Adolf Hitler. These rulers must have listened closely when Machiavelli, in The Prince, said Since love
and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than
loved. There were also young princes in the monarchy era that governed their people by the way
Machiavelli said to. In both ways, for good or evil, these writers set guidelines for future generations

State Terrorism As A Form Of Political Violence
State terrorism is defined as, terrorism committed by a national government, inside of its national
borders and directed at its own people and sometimes visitors (Taylor Swanson, 2016 P. 162). Most
military dictorships tend to maintain the power through terror; this paralyzes society through violence
and threats. The scary thing about state terrorism is that the states themselves have the power to use
violence in many ways that us as civilians cannot. The main purpose of state terrorism is to install this
fear in citizens, this way they consolidate the living regimes power, and keep maintain the control over
the country s population. However, some do not see state terrorism as terrorism, if not just as a form of
political violence.

Essay about Luke s Gospel
Luke s Gospel Miracles
Section A
(i) The definition of a miracle is: An event or effect contrary to the established constitution and course
of things, or a deviation from the known laws of nature; a supernatural event, or one transcending the
ordinary laws by which the universe is governed.
However, other definitions claim that a miracle is simply a wonderful or amazing event . Today we
use the term miracle colloquially to mean the latter, however traditionally the first definition is
technically more correct.
Luke portrays Jesus as a worker of miracles, and tells us of the many miracles that Jesus performed.
Luke, being a doctor and a gentile, tends to focus on healing stories and ... Show more content on

Jesus is cleansing him from this mental illness, and this is considered a healing miracle. Christians
may translate that sort of miracle to today s society as to when someone, who is not Christian and is
sinful, finds god and is forgiven of their past sins. They would say it is a miracle for that person to be
healed spiritually.
A key point on this topic is a big part of our lives today in the modern society: science. Of course,
something that was seen as a healing miracle in the time when the bible was written is accepted as
normal procedure now as scientists now know so much about health and the body. We know leprosy
not to be contagious whereas in the bible lepers were excluded and seen as outcasts. People with
mental illnesses were thought were thought to be possessed by the devil, however we now recognise
these people to suffer illnesses such as schizophrenia. For example, a woman in the bible had a
haemorrhage that Jesus cured and this was considered a healing miracle. Today, for someone with a
haemorrhage, treatment would be expected and being cured would not be a shock. So if it was
considered miraculous in Jesus time, is it still considered miraculous today? It is the same situation but
because of medical advances it is no longer seen in that status. If a healing miracle needs to defy
scientific laws then we are

The Dawes Act Of 1887
Indigenous peoples of the United States have been persecuted against since the birth of the nation. As
years progressed, the Indians were stripped of their identity and exposed to the realities of the
American lifestyle a lifestyle that failed to coincide with the traditions and culture they possessed
years prior to the influx of Americans into western territory. As desire for this territory increased due
to economic ventures, and the ultimate desire to expand due to Manifest Destiny, measures needed to
be taken to ensure the land was to be in full possession of the government. Thus, the Dawes Act was
enacted in 1887, which allotted new lands to Indians in exchange for American citizenship. While its
promise could be construed as a generous gesture by the government, the act in reality was nothing
but a gesture; it was a burden. Therefore, the Dawes Act of 1887, along with other attempts of Indian
assimilation, threatened family ties and culture, stripped them of sacred lands, and proved that
citizenship came with a fatal denunciation of their culture. The Dawes Act not only impacted the
current inhabitants of the indigenous lands, it also affected the future generation of Indians; since the
culture was being readjusted to be acceptable for American standards. On the new lands granted to the
Indians were private government run boarding schools in order to successfully assimilate children of
the native population into society. In Document F, the weekly lesson plan of the Day

(10) B) Outline two solutions to these problems and comment on their success (10) A) The problem of suffering has been around since the dawn of time, or as religious philosophers believe; since Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden. The first problem that arises from evil is that we believe that the God of classical theism has certain attributes. These are that: · God is all powerful (Omnipotence) · God is all loving (Omnibenevolence) · God is all knowing (Omniscience) · God creates ex nilho (out of nothing) · God is infinite The last point is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moral evil includes things that happen like murder and the holocaust that occurred whilst the Nazi s were in charge of Germany. The types of natural evil that occur include things such as Floods, Earthquakes and the Tsunami that occurred recently. These problems of moral and natural evil, they contradict the God of classical theism again because if God was all of the things it is said that he is then surely he would not create people such as Adolf Hitler who was responsible for so many deaths. God would also not allow such things to happen in the world like natural evil, once again this questions the attribute of God that says that God is all powerful, the question that arises from this is that; Does God posses the power to actually stop natural evil from happening? There have been philosophers such as Hume, who came up with the inconsistent triad. It still has two attributes of the God of classical theism, however it has removed the attribute that says that God is all knowing and replaced it with evil exists. The explanation that Hume gave for this is that you can not have all three attributes together, he said that God must not know how to stop evil and suffering or because if he did then he would have stopped it already. It could be said that the level of suffering that somebody endures could make a difference for the problem of

From killing just one deer over the legal bag limit to harvesting tons of animal parts, poaching in any form is illegal and laws are getting tougher to discourage it. If convicted, you can now be charged with a felony and be sent to prison. All across the world citizens and law enforcement officials are working t ogether to combat this problem (Simon Shadow). Although it was made illegal around the 1800s, poaching remains a big problem across the world. Elephants and rhinos are becoming extinct because people are illegally hunting them for their tusks to sell the ivory. While the species population growth remains healthy, poaching remains a constant threat. So what s the solution? Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But what would that do? One of the main challenges is that nobody can predict how legalizing trade will affect the behavior of the end users in Asia. The government doesn t know if it will make people more or less likely to poach elephants and rhinos. Many conservation groups have expressed concern over the concept of legalizing the rhino horn trade. One key issue regarding this solution to rhino poaching will be to understand how the trade in rhino horn will be regulated. One of the main reasons for their opposition is that the government doesn t think it will be enforceable. This is because markets where the trade would be active like in Vietnam simply do not have the necessary enforcement regimes in place, history shows that occasional sales of elephant ivory have not reduced poaching for ivory (african wildlife detective). • 6. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Many people in today s society tend to only listen to the beat of the song rather than the meaning, and vise versa. They either like the lyrics or like the beat and do not fully understand the meaning. For example, Foster the People s Pumped Up Kicks is a very catchy song with a good chorus but the meaning is misconstrued. The meaning and the musicality is not intertwined. It is a song about a a disturbed kid going on a killing spree. Unlike Foster the People, people adore Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, a nineteenth century poet, not because he had a good rhythm, but because he intertwines musicality and imagery. He merges sight and sound to establish a cinematic orchestra and paints a vivid image full of depth and personality. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow incorporates religion through the influence of nature and the strong presence of musicality in The Cross of Snow , My Lost Youth , Autumn and The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls . Many of Longfellow s influences on his works have sprouted from his early life experiences. Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine to Stephen Longfellow and Zilpah Longfellow. As a child Longfellow was known for his vivid imagination. Little did he know that his childhood experiences sparked many of ideas for his future works. Of those 58 FTOs only one is located in South America, and none are located in Mexico. Despite the lack of official FTOs in Mexico, non state violence is at an all time high and the country is more dangerous than ever. This is because of the presence and prevalence of drug cartels throughout the country. These drug cartels employ violent tactics as part of their drug trafficking network. But these cartels are more than just criminal organizations. The scope of the violence, the fear they instill in the population, and the influence they have on policy shows that these organizations should be considered as more than petty criminals trying to make money. While economic gain remains one of the main goals of these groups, there is much that falls under the umbrella of terrorism. Terrorism, while difficult to define, still has a few key features that are mostly agreed upon. These features will be explored in depth through a discussion of the definition. Following the definition of terrorism, the paper will examine the cartels in Mexico. Should Uk Policy Be Concerned About Unemployment Should UK policy makers be concerned about unemployment persistence and hysteresis given the increase in the unemployment rate since the start of the recession in 2008? Here, Step 1 is repeated with other elements of bin ie. 4, 9 and 18 values. For elements 4 19, there is no match of values in R[27]. For element 18, there is a match at R[6], R[7], R[12], R[15]. Thus the bin b(0) is updated to (0, 4, 9, 18, 3, 6, 7, 12, 15). We continue to do so till all the elements of the bin are visited. So, elements 3, 12 and 15 have no match. But element 6 has a match at R[1], R[2], R[10] and R[19]. Element 7 has a match at R[5]. Hence, the updated bin after all computations. b(0) is (0,4,9,3,6,7,1,2,10,11,19,5,12,15,18,21) Now the procedure is repeated for the next element of the sequence 1 which has not been visited earlier. • 23. Why Do Neanderthals Could neanderthals have influenced our language, writing ability, and spiritual practices? I think so. Genetic research shows that our DNA can contain up to 4% of neanderthal genetics. Comparing the neanderthal eye sockets to our own shows that neanderthals sockets were larger. Perhaps this means that they were more nocturnal than modern man. I can t help thinking about the vast amount of pyramids across the world, and how some are designated as pyramids of the sun, and some as pyramids of the moon. Could moon worship have originated in ancient modern man from the influence of our ancestors the possibly nocturnal neanderthals? What about the pyramids of the sun? Maybe this sun worship came from our cro magnon ancestors with eyes more similar in size to our own. Our smaller eyes make it more difficult to see in the dark. As I ponder about this, I think it relevant to mention that the moon is usually associated with female deities such as Luna, Diana, Artemis, Selene, and many, many more. Who were the predecessor deities of these already ancient goddesses? Maybe they were influenced by the goddesses that neanderthals worshipped. I wonder if neanderthals saw the female as divine above male. The moon gives off a softer, loving light compared to the Sun s brighter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. Essay on William Morris William Morris William Morris (1834 1896) was perhaps the most important British decorative artist of the 19th century. A prolific designer, craftsman and decorator, his work and ideas have had a major influence on the development of modern interior design. William Morris was one of the most influential figures in the Victorian and Edwardian art world. As a young man at Oxford he became involved with the Pre Raphaelite movements, mixing with such artists as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt and Edward Coley Burne Jones. Always a man of innovation, Morris soon tired of the subject matter and philosophy of the Pre Raphaelites. Instead of using a genuine shade of indigo, the design was printed in a Prussian blue, the nearest to indigo that could be achieved using modern aniline dyes. This led William Morris to speak out against the capitalist forces, which he considered had brought his industry to a very bad state. Henceforward there is an absolute divorce between the commercial process and the art of printing. Anyone wanting to produce dyed textiles with any artistic quality in them must entirely forego the modern and commercial methods in favour of those which are at least as old as Pliny... In other words, William Morris ended his connection with Clarkson (who printed the design) and abandoned production of Tulip and Willow. He also set up a tiny dye house in the basement and scullery of his house in Queen Square, hoping that he might find his own solution to the problem. In fact it was only in 1883, after he had established himself at Merton Abbey, that he was finally able to produce a satisfactory printing of Tulip and Willow. Preliminary Design Morris s intricate flower patterns, which seem so effortless and casual in their final form, were achieved after long hours of patient designing and the production of dozens of different designs. This preliminary stage was important, as Morris recognised. In a lecture called Making the Best of It , delivered in 1879, he offered these words of advice to potential designers: no amount of ... I have decided to choose and examine Maison de Verre (1928 32) by architect, Pierre Chareau which is situated in Rue Saint Guillaume, Paris. Maison de Verre, also known as House of Glass was built in the era of Modern Movement and of course, it somehow has a strong relation with the early modernist issues materially, structurally and spatially. I will first explore how the house relates to the industrialisation issue in general but to be specific how Chareau s interest and decision to use certain materials like steel really brought forward the sense of the industrial design of the house. Then, I will talk about the relation of the house with the issue of mechanisation and how successful Chareau was in portraying a set of machines to live in with amazing planning since the very beginning. His concept of mobility in most of the mechanical designs really captured my interest. Last but not least, I will discuss the issue of hygiene in this house as I think that it is somehow a response to the spread of diseases in the twentieth century and people started to think more about the idea of cleanliness. At the end of this essay, I will conclude it with a summary of the three modernist issues which will be discussed later and the influence of Maison de Verre on the following architects generation. As mentioned earlier, industrialisation is one of the early modernist issues which relates significantly with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Key Studies Within Social Psychology This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and show why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social psychology was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the scientific study of how people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is considered the father of social psychology by many as he took a stand against the dominant behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction between the individual and their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than environment alone. His revolutionary ideas matured into the study of group dynamics, which is widely used by many organisations today (Collin, 2012). Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two key studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch (Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008). Milgram investigated how far people would be prepared to go when obeying an authority figure. Forty men aged from 20 to 50 volunteered to take part. The media is full of articles highlighting the negative effects of meat, an army of people are trying to tarnish the reputation of meat in any way possible. More people are cutting meat from their diet now then ever before. I guess you could say then that meat is not in a good place. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human body and on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I finished reading I was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style. I spent sometime mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it would be like to never again taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent buffalo burger. I decided that if I was going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be sure that the benefits were all that people worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching the topic I found that although meat does have many negative effects these effects come from over eating and gorging ourselves on meat. Recently, the genetic modification of organisms has been a topic for debate among professionals and the general public alike. For instance, some value the benefits of modifying foods to contain greater nutritional benefits, yield larger crop sizes, and have resistance to many diseases. Alternatively, others fear the undetermined risks for consuming scientifically altered organisms long term, and deem the act of tampering with the makeup of living things unethical. Even more controversial, is the modern idea of using genetic modification techniques to create smarter organisms, largely, humans. Advances in scientific research particularly in the field of neuroscience make this argument not only possible, but entirely plausible and more attainable than ever before. Thus, it is important to become educated on the topic and explore both sides of the argument prior to making this prospect a reality. This paper argues that it is beneficial for researchers to generate smarter living organisms through genetic modification based on the biological, social, and ethical benefits that arise from the act. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF, 2012) now advises against PSA based screening tests for men of all ages of the risks of over diagnosis and treatment, which have resulted in many adverse effects, serious complications, and even death. The Henry used copper (later brass) rimfire cartridges with a 216 grain (14.0 gram, 0.490 ounce) bullet over 25 grains (1.6 g, 0.056 oz.) of gunpowder. Production was very small (150 to 200 a month) until middle of 1864. Nine hundred were manufactured between summer and October 1862; by 1864, production had peaked at 290 per month, bringing the total to 8,000 manufactured.[2] By the time production ended in 1866, approximately 14,000 units had been manufactured. To the amazed muzzleloader armed Confederates who had to face this deadly sixteen shooter , it was called a rifle that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long. [6] Those few Confederate troops who came into possession of captured Henry rifles had little way to resupply the special ammunition used by the weapon, making its widespread use by Confederate forces impractical. The rifle was, however, known to have been used at least in part by some fifteen different Confederate units in Louisiana, Texas, and Virginia, as well as the personal bodyguards of Confederate President Jefferson ... However, other definitions claim that a miracle is simply a wonderful or amazing event . Christians may translate that sort of miracle to today s society as to when someone, who is not Christian and is sinful, finds god and is forgiven of their past sins. They would say it is a miracle for that person to be healed spiritually. A key point on this topic is a big part of our lives today in the modern society: science. Of course, something that was seen as a healing miracle in the time when the bible was written is accepted as normal procedure now as scientists now know so much about health and the body. We know leprosy not to be contagious whereas in the bible lepers were excluded and seen as outcasts. People with mental illnesses were thought were thought to be possessed by the devil, however we now recognise these people to suffer illnesses such as schizophrenia. For example, a woman in the bible had a haemorrhage that Jesus cured and this was considered a healing miracle. Today, for someone with a haemorrhage, treatment would be expected and being cured would not be a shock. So if it was considered miraculous in Jesus time, is it still considered miraculous today? It is the same situation but because of medical advances it is no longer seen in that status. If a healing miracle needs to defy scientific laws then we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Dawes Act Of 1887 Indigenous peoples of the United States have been persecuted against since the birth of the nation. As years progressed, the Indians were stripped of their identity and exposed to the realities of the American lifestyle a lifestyle that failed to coincide with the traditions and culture they possessed years prior to the influx of Americans into western territory. As desire for this territory increased due to economic ventures, and the ultimate desire to expand due to Manifest Destiny, measures needed to be taken to ensure the land was to be in full possession of the government. Thus, the Dawes Act was enacted in 1887, which allotted new lands to Indians in exchange for American citizenship. While its promise could be construed as a generous gesture by the government, the act in reality was nothing but a gesture; it was a burden. Therefore, the Dawes Act of 1887, along with other attempts of Indian assimilation, threatened family ties and culture, stripped them of sacred lands, and proved that citizenship came with a fatal denunciation of their culture. The Dawes Act not only impacted the current inhabitants of the indigenous lands, it also affected the future generation of Indians; since the culture was being readjusted to be acceptable for American standards. On the new lands granted to the Indians were private government run boarding schools in order to successfully assimilate children of the native population into society.
