Water as a Source of Future Conflict in Sa
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Fierce competition for fresh water may well become a source of
conflict and wars in the future. Kofi Annan, former U.N. Secretary General in 2001 Background of the
Study 1. Water is directly related with the survival of human kind and it is crucial unlike other
resources, because it does not have choices and alternatives. As a consequence of global warming and
pollution, importance of water has increased much. Some 2 billion people already lack water supplies.
Water use has risen six fold over the past 70 years. By 2050, it is estimated that 4.2 billion people live
in countries that cannot meet people s daily basis needs. South Asia is a region of water abundance
and scarcity. Issues concerning water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As global claim for water swell up but utilizable freshwater resources reduce, several research have
been carried out to imply that water shortage is and will be a chief basis of armed conflict; but little
methodical research has examined this theme from a national security perspective i.e. the
militarization of the river claim. 7. While taking SA into consideration, the most important and
abundant factor for the development is water. This factor is thus regarded as a very crucial in keeping
the relation between the countries. However understanding and peaceful the countries may seem, the
water factor has been affecting the inter state relationships now and will be doing the same in the
future in an ever increasing fashion. The ups and downs in the relationship are sure to result in the
armed conflict as the water resources being the only cause. Accounting to the issues of water; this
research paper focuses in the security issues and the interrelated political situation caused by the water
resources of the river basin of the SA. 8. At the same time as water resources in the SA are central in
the improvement of bilateral and multilateral regional relations, the consistent politics of water
resources and security issues have historically inclined regional politics and ensuing armed conflicts,
and will persist to do so in the future. Furthermore, water is

Comparing The Sit-In And Freedom Riders
Sit In and Freedom Riders
From the 1950 s to the early 1960 s of the United State, colored people were treated unfairly by
segregation, which was a separation between colored people and white people. The Southern United
States was the most racist and violent part of U.S. because of the Jim Crow Laws enforcing the racial
segregation over all the public places to separate African Americans and white people. However, the
segregation finally came to an end due to the civil rights movement in 1964, and one of the main
nonviolent protests of the civil rights movement were the Sit In and Freedom Riders. Sit In and the
Freedom Riders demonstrated the rights of the African Americans and accelerated the civil rights
movement.
First of all, the Sit In and the Freedom Riders protest were trying to show how unfair the segregation
was and how violent and racist the white people were in the segregation, and potentially stop the
segregation. In the article: The Sit In movement, the author stated: Sit In organizers believed that if the

According to the article on the Freedom Riders: Though many were arrested for trespassing,
disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace, national media coverage of the sit ins brought increasing
attention to the struggle for civil rights for African Americans (history.com). The protests have
successfully got more and more people to realize the importance of civil rights, which was an
important step for the civil rights movement to be successful. The civil rights movement accomplished
peace between all races, which is of course one of the qualities that made the unique United States,
and the Sit In and the Freedom Riders movement was doubtlessly the main acceleration of the civil

The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act Of 2010
Individual Mandate a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
Maria Colon Jones
Liberty University PPOL 501
May 9, 2016
Public policy is a system of laws, regulatory measures, a course of action by which a government
maintains order or addresses the needs of its citizens through actions defined by its constitution. The
Patient Protection Affordable Care Act is a great example of the power vested in the government to
establish laws that will assist in health care reform to provide coverage for many. The PPACA was
signed into law in March 2010 by President Barak Obama. This act represents a major adjusting of the
health care system in the United States. The Act affirms that everybody should have some basic
security when it comes to their health care. There have been many debates and questions of the
constitutionally of the health care law. The issue of the individual mandate is one that was highly
debated and objected by many. The individual mandate requires that all individuals to purchase some
minimally insurance policy or pay a penalty. Many feel that such a policy represents a fundamental
threat to liberty and an unprecedented leap of power by the federal government and clearly
unconstitutional. On June 28, 2012, in a 5 to 4 ruling the Supreme Court upheld that President Obama
s health care overhaul, indicating that it s a requirement that most Americans obtain insurance or pay a
penalty was authorized by Congress s

and gill withdrawal will be recorded with a transducer connected to efferent vein of the gill with a silk

that we will observe aging dependent decrease in the ability to learn as reported in vertebrates. In
order to understand synaptic aging, the above behavioral experiments will be coupled with
electrophysiological measurements of L7MN LESN connections. Briefly, in the above preparation,
abdominal ganglion is partially desheathed to gain access to measure electrophysiological properties
using sharp electrodes. Similar experiments were performed on R15 neuron in the abdominal ganglia
(See Fig 2 3). Specifically, we will measure the resting membrane potential, resistance and
postsynaptic potentials (PSPs) before and after different behavior training paradigms described above
[6,34]. PSPs are a measure of strength of synaptic connections. These experiments will answer
whether during aging (1) passive properties such as basic membrane resting potential and resistance
change and (2) active properties such as excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials change.
How does aging affect synaptic plasticity? (Aim1) We will carry out synaptic plasticity measurements
using a reduced preparation containing abdominal ganglia from mature and old animals. Specifically,
we will expose the abdominal ganglion to plasticity inducing regimens of 5 HT stimulation examine

This report will explain the meaning of Brexit and introduce the influence of Brexit on
macroeconomic in Britain. The definition of Brexit is that the Unite Kingdom (UK) will exit from
European Union (EU), which raising concern around the world. Brexit has drawn greater worldwide
attention, then the increasing number of questions which about the damaging of British
macroeconomic has been referred. According to Brexit means Brexit , which said by the prime

At the same time, Brexit means that the UK might exit the EU Free Trade Area (FTA),which means
that most agreements, regulations and legal basis, the British economy relying on their to develop, will
be broken and economic volatility will occur. Accounting to the estimation of WTO (World Trade
Organization), these potential failure agreements occupy about 80% of UK s trade around the world.
For example, the UK need to try its best to get access to European single market, need to negotiate
with other 60 countries and regions for the EU trade agreement etc.. In addition, if Brexit succeed, the
right of Britain in the EU trade policy will be reduced, for example, the UK is difficult to take part in
the negotiations about Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) directly.
As from different industries, the strongest influence will happen in financial industry. London is an
international financial centre, because of the Brexit, its status around the world will decline gradually.
Currently, the UK accounts for more than 40% of global foreign exchange transactions, and lots of
European financial institutions set up their headquarters in London, therefore most European countries
derivative trading and risk hedging activities are carried out in the UK. Britain occupies around 80%
of the EU capital market activity, and there are 75% of European hedge fund assets in the UK in the

Planning And Managing Their Information Systems Architecture
INTRODUCTION
As any city depends on a functioning infrastructure, companies operating in a digital world are relying
on a comprehensive information systems infrastructure to support their business processes and
competitive strategy. With increasing speed, the transactions are conducted.
Analyzed similarly occupied, and with the increasing amount of data to collect, the companies plan
well and the biggest returns on investment to their information systems in order to manage their
infrastructure needs.
When planning and managing their information systems architecture, organizations will answer many
important and difficult questions.
For example:
How will we utilize information systems to enable our competitive strategy?
What technologies and systems best support our core business processes?
Which vendors should we partner with, which technologies do we adopt, and which do we avoid?
What hardware, software, or services do we buy, build, or have managed by an outside service
provider?
How can the organization get the most out of the data captured from internal and external sources?
How can the organization best ensure that the infrastructure is reliable and secure?

Conspiracy Theories Have Caused People To Question Everything
Conspiracy theories have caused people to question everything the government tells them for
hundreds of years. A conspiracy theory is an explanation of an event or situation that invokes a
conspiracy without warrant. Conspiracy theories generally involve an illegal or harmful act carried out
by the government or other powerful actors. The Moon landing is still one of the biggest conspiracy
theories in the world. After forty eight years it is still being debated and discussed in many
laboratories, and classrooms across the globe. On July 20, 1969, two American astronauts by the name
of Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin allegedly, landed safely on the moon. The entire world was

Some people have reason to believe that the dark interior of the space shuttle looked like the darkness
of space, and the circular window gave the circular shape of the earth. The film also states that one of
the astronauts used a crescent shape to alter the shape of the earth as they drifted farther into space.
The consistency of the video was also at question. The film shows decent quality color video inside of
the spaceship, but the film on the moon was black and white. Many conspiracy theorists claim that the
video footage was leaked from NASA by accident. When the video footage was leaked conspiracy
theorist dissected the footage and made a hypothesis of how the footage was produced. NASA says
that every theory is false and they stand behind their statements firm.
What motivated the moon landing?
The moon landing was highly motivated by the space race between the United States, and the Soviet
Union. The space race caused a very tense tone in each country, as they both were trying to be the first
to make it into space. The Soviet Union made the first milestone by launching Sputnik into the earth s
orbit on October 4, 1957. Sputnik was the world s first manmade satellite to make it into outer space.
This was such a frightening time for the United States. The United States did not know if it was sent to

Isaac Newton Accomplishments
Sir Isaac Newton is commonly thought of as one of the most influential scientists of all time. During
his life, he was recognized as a mathematician, an astronomer, a theologian, and a physicist. He was
an incredible man who had many great accomplishments during his life. It is said that he contributed
to every area of mathematics that was studied before and during his lifetime.
Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His father was a
farmer who died before he was born. He was small and weak when he was born prematurely and was
not expected to survive. When Isaac was about two years old, his mother remarried a prominent
minister. She soon moved to live in a neighboring village with her new husband and left Isaac to be
raised by his grandmother. He remained with his grandmother for nine years until the death of his step
father.
When Isaac was 12 years old, he started school at The King s School in Grantham, England. He
studied Latin, Greek, and math there until the age of 17. He briefly left the school when his mother
decided that he should become a farmer, something he was not interested in. She was eventually
persuaded to let him finish his education by the headmaster of his school. While there, he excelled in
his studies and eventually came to be known as one of the best students.
In 1661, at the age of 18, Isaac started attending Trinity College in Cambridge. He graduated in 1665

Cultural Uniformity In The Twentieth Century
In the early twentieth century, the United States was quickly evolving to become a nation of prestige
on the global stage. Yet the young nation lagged in cultural uniformity which its counterparts in
Europe had been developing since the birth of the first European kingdoms. The progression in
cultural philosophy further evolved with significant cultural movements such as Humanism and the
Renaissance, the Enlightenment, Romanticism then Realism, and then the twentieth century s
Modernism. The United States did witness the effects of these movements but their effects lagged in
significance because of the great social divide the nation faced and still faces. The nation is home to a

DuBois and Alfred Rosenberg both touch upon the racial issues in the conflicting rural and urban
communities, in their pieces Of Work and Wealth and Myth of the Twentieth Century respectively.
DuBois writes about the East St. Louis Race Riot of 1917 that was a result of black workers replacing
white workers that were unionizing and protesting. DuBois expresses how the race institutions and
disfranchisement promote racial tensions that unilaterally destroy any sense of cultural unity in the
Middle West and throughout the nation. Mr. DuBois encourages the blacks to not give back because
they were guaranteed the same rights after the Civil War and that the disenfranchisement through local
laws such as those of Jim Crow would serve as a lesson to the nation. He states at the end of his piece
about the riots that the American Negroes stand today as the greatest strategic group in the world.
Their services are indispensable, their temper and character are fine, and their souls have seen a vision
more beautiful than any other mass of workers. They may win back culture to the world if their
strength can be used with the forces of the world that make for justice and not against the hidden hates
that fight for barbarism, expressing that what they stand for may serve as morale for the world and that
life in the urban centers during this period tended to be full of chaos and cultural

Peru Current Research Paper
The Humboldt Current, also called the Peru Current, is one of the world s largest ecosystems that
support high levels of biological production. The Humboldt Current extends along the coast of Peru
and Southern Chile up to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Although the current has unique
features, it faces a serious of environmental challenges. The first one being the cold surface currents.
Not only does the cool current produces nutrient rich waters that rise to the surface and attract multiple
fish populations, but it causes the concentrated area to become vulnerable to anthropogenic ocean
acidification. In addition, high winds are caused by coastal upwelling zones that are disrupted by El
Nino. These high winds cause slow productivity, stock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Towards Christmas season, the cold current is replaced by warm current that flows southward along
the coasts of Ecuador and Peru. Productivity in the Humboldt Current weakens as the warm water is
pushed into the ocean by strong winds. The warmer waters produces higher surface levels in which the
surface becomes overheated. Sea levels rise 40 to 50 cm and water temperatures increase by 2 to 3
degrees celsius. This drastically effects economies in Peru and Educator because the availability of
nutrients is reduced causing extreme food shortages. Combined with overfishing and El Nino events,
the fishing industry went into decline between 1971 and 1972. It took years for the anchovy stock to
recover. Many anchovies starved, as well as the higher trophic level who prey on the fish. Since there
is not enough fish to go around during this specific time, many of the fishes will also migrate. In
addition, El Nino causes more rainfall then normal in which agriculture output is reduced (Madl,
2000). Wheat planting was affected by a wetter than normal winter season and a significant reduction
in planted area because wheat growth depends on good weather conditions (FAO, 1997). Heavy rains
and flooding during this event caused sever damage to normally dry portions of Ecuador and Peru
where it became extremely difficult to restore

How Did Erasmus Change During The Renaissance
Renaissance was the period of great changes and was characterized by a revision of many concepts.
The churches during the renaissance was being questioned by many scholars and one of the greatest
scholar of this period Desiderius Erasmus, a Christian humanist and the second scholar was a monk
from Germany named Martin Luther. The scholar Desiderius Erasmus was a dedicated Christian and
advocated reforms within the church and spread the idea of pacifism. He questioned the church in
many ideas and stated that people should live their own life and not always thinking about being
saved. For example He believed that baptism should be by full immersion and should come only after
one had accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He continued to assault erroneous Catholic Church

Four Characteristics Of Pychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic or psychoanalysis is a theory that is based on the personality. Psychodynamic therapy
is the focus of unconscious processes as they are manifested in the clients present behaviour. Self
awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on ones present behaviour is the goal of
psychodynamic therapy. Psychodynamic therapy operates with the tool of dialogue in order to expose
and explore unconscious conflicts for the purpose of allowing their processing and integration. The
fundamental rules for intervention in psychodynamic hypnotherapy are the same in other
psychodynamic therapy (Wormnes, et al., 2000).
There are four psychodynamic techniques used in psychodynamic hypnotherapy, these being, free
associations, dream interpretation and interpretation of transference and defences. During hypnosis,
free associations will often present themselves in the form of images that are closer to primary process
thinking as well as the unconscious, and hence defences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There does however tend to be a certain type of individual who responds particularly well to the
psychodynamic therapy approach.
These tend to be individuals that are genuinely interested in the exploration of themselves, and the
seeking of self knowledge in addition to symptom relief. They will have the capacity to self reflect as
well as a natural curiosity for their internal life and why they behave the way they do in certain
situations. An example of this may be someone who keeps choosing abusive partners may have the
desire to learn how to break that pattern by exploring their unconscious conflicts. Should a client be

Alternate Endings in Anouilh s Medea Essay
Alternate Endings in Anouilh s Medea
To what purpose does Jean Anouilh alter the central conflicts and characters in his retelling of Medea
? In the classic play, Medea escapes without punishment and we are told as an audience it is not our
place to question the motives and/or actions of the gods. Within the framework of modern,
psychologically rendered characters and in the absence of supernatural meddling, Anouilh attempts
not only to question the motives but to posit answers to the open ended questions left by Euripides.
The dynamic between divine and human will is reshaped with this goal in mind. This change makes a
significant impact upon Medea s ability to rediscover and reconcile her identity with her actions as
well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the characters, especially Jason and Medea, do not acknowledge divine forces as potent
elements shaping their actions, they are keenly aware of their recurring roles throughout literary
history. They force the reader to make a more substantial connection or comparison with the previous
work. One might try to recast the earlier analogy, replacing the Greek gods with Anouilh. The
characters are his tools, his puppets. This, however, is too simplistic. Anouilh himself must
acknowledge the limits of the tale, not simply the sequence of events, but themes and ideas within it, if
he is to retell it. In this sense Anouilh is confined and he makes the reader aware of this fact. Within
these self imposed limits, though, Anouilh is free to revise, review, elucidate, and articulate the ideas,
actions, and opinions of each character.
And it is to this end that Jason is raised by Anouilh from the ranks of dramatic foil to an emotional and
psychological match for Medea. Jason is left spinning out of control at the conclusion of the original
play, wondering how this could have happened and why. Medea escapes untouched and the Chorus is
left to restore order. Anouilh s Jason is faced with the murder of his children, fiancé, and future father
in law as well as Medea s suicide. Medea, consumed by the fires of her own passion and madness,
takes her own life. He is obviously devastated but able to respond

For more than a century, intelligence and security services have played a role within Russian foreign
and domestic policy. The czars, General Secretaries of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and
all post Soviet leaders have viewed these services as crucial in coping with rebels and domestic
terrorists, and gathering intelligence on both internal and external threats. One of the first official
Russian Intelligence agencies created was the Extraordinary Commission for Combating
Counterrevolution and Sabotage (CHEKA) in 1918 (Pringle, 2011). This agency was responsible for
foreign intelligence, domestic security, counterintelligence, and border control until 1921 when it was
disbanded. In 1922, its functions were transferred to the State Political Directorate (GPU), renamed in
1923 to the Unified State Political Directorate (OGPU), which was initially much less powerful than

Looking for Answers in Looking for Richard
Al Pacino s Looking for Richard is an unusual film. It is a documentary about the complexities of
Shakespeare, the performing of the play Richard III, and the ignorance of the average American
regarding Shakespeare. The unusual nature of the film it s similar to a filmed Cliff notes version of the
text provokes wildly different reactions from film buffs, critics, and Shakespeare purists. A perusal of
five different reviews of the film show such variant descriptors that range from Mary Brennan s
comment that the documentary is decidedly narcissistic to Edwin Jahiel s comment that the film is an
original, mesmerizing exploration. The rather wide incongruity between the reviews ... Show more

Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose of
Pacino s film to be. Brennan s hypothesis is that Pacino s primary objective is to find meaning in
Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr. Joe
Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable text.
How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino achieved
these goals, so it is important to discuss them.
Dre, a Girls on Film critic, offers another similar conjecture as to what Pacino s goals for the film
were. According to the first name only Dre, the purpose of the film was to present a tribute to
Shakespeare, to explore the acting process, and to explain and portray a version of Richard III. Giving
the film the page s highest rating, it is obvious that Dre feels the film delivers on its goals.
In fact, much of Dre s words match quite closely with the reasons Pacino stated onscreen for making
the film to present Shakespeare in a more contemporary form for the average American. The popular
Girls on Film web page lives up to its name it presents twenty something young women (not

their development has been amazing. It is no wonder why they have become irreplaceable. With all

In addition, not possessing mobile phone/s is higher in the age bracket 15 16 year olds when compared
to 13 14 olds. The spread of mobile communication among teenagers has been markedly rapid during
the latter half of the 1990s. Young people have created and developed a communication culture that
incorporates many special features, such as a rise in the use of text based communication channels.
Teenagers intersecting and selective use of communication channels has generated multimedia
communication. From the theoretical standpoint provided by symbolic interactions, we can ask
whether communication through new media technologies generates new forms of social interaction. If
this is the case, how could we describe and analyze these new forms of interaction? The media
landscapes created by teenagers serve to articulate their personal space, as well as enabling their
presentation of self and defining their relationships to others. The quality of sleep of almost half of 16
year olds may be affected by text messaging on mobile phones, a study from Belgium says. The sleep
of one in four 13 year olds could be affected too, says the researchers, who looked at the effects of text
messaging on sleep interruption in teenagers (Journal of Sleep Research (2003:12:263). In the

The Thing Around Your Neck
The women show courage and intelligence even though they are culturally suppressed. Discuss. The
Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie highlights the often challenging lives of
Nigerian women living in Africa, but also abroad in the United States. It is however, not the
difficulties which Adichie is ultimately focusing on, but the courage and intelligence of women who
are able to make small victories , overcoming various attempts of cultural oppression. Adichie s
characters are subject to cultural suppression in several of the short stories. This is most pronounced in
The Arrangers of Marriage where Chinaza is forced by her husband to assimilate to her new

This includes the courage shown by the unnamed narrator in Cell One to stand up and cause damage
to her parent s windshield so they could not go and visit Nnamabia for a day, a little victory to the less

and repair their friendship, whilst in The Arrangers of Marriage Chinaza returns to her husband.
Despite his various attempts to strip her of her cultural identity and not know[ing] him she returns and
opens herself to climb[ing] up to love . Perhaps true courage is most evident in A Private Experience
where a Hausa Muslim and Igbo Christian hide together in a store while outside their respective ethnic
groups are engaged hacking down...with machetes, clubbing...with stones . To risk the possibility of
being seen together, alongside the friendship they develop is a truly courageous act. Adichie therefore
demonstrates that ultimately human kindness trumps any religious lines, whilst the women are capable
of actions that put themselves in harm s way. Furthermore, the characters are intelligent and
determined. In Jumping Monkey Hill Ujunwa is well educated and a capable writer, invited to a
prestigious writing workshop. She is also intelligent enough to question Edward s sexual advanced

the focus onto Trump s racism, xenophobia and general thoughts, policies and views that have
offended many different individuals and groups of people. I believe that these things he has said he
would do should nullify his eligibility to run for president.
Donald Trump has voiced his strong opposition to Mexicans being in the United States; he even went
as far as proposing the idea of building a wall separating Mexico from the US. According to Forbes
article written by Dolia Estevez, he wants to deport 11.3 million undocumented workers, 6 million of
which are Mexicans, and strip babies born to undocumented immigrants of their birthright citizenship.

One of the scariest things about Trump saying all these things is that there s so many people out there

Essay about Ethics and Gatekeeping in The Media
Gatekeeping is controlling access to goods, services, or information, usually applied by individuals or
groups in hierarchical organizations. (CSA). As it applies to media, gatekeeping refers to the method
in which information is filtered for distribution, this can be done through the internet, print or
broadcasting. Due to the power that gatekeepers wield in controlling what we as the public read, hear
or see, there are many ethical concerns to be considered and liberties to be safeguarded. Rupert
Murdoch is a prime example of a gatekeeper. He is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of News Corporation. In 2010, News Corporation was the third largest media conglomerate in

Biography Of Elvis Presley
About 70 years ago, Elvis Presley roamed the world. At age 13, his hair was dark brown like some

no tattoos, but is planning on getting them all over his arms. His favorite outfit was black pants with a
black or green t shirt or once in a while, a fancy long sleeve shirt. One really good thing about him is
that he sang really well. He worked at a little food truck that when you come up to it, it smells like
melted cheese and toasted bread. He also took singing lessons with his dad. He was always conceited
and would think he s the best, but he was very caring. Him and his dad had a quote they used to tell

Patriarchy And The Challenge Of Feminism Essay
Judith Bennett is a Medievalist Historian who has focused much of her research on English/European
women and feminist history (1 2). In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the Challenge of
Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be more closely linked.
This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field and applying them to
the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in her introduction that this
text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though this statement holds, due to
the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined, explored, or analyzed (4 5).
Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without properly
defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known these terms.
Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different interpretations based
upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and wanting female
superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the various schools of
feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes are still valid.
Specifically, Bennett notes that the language of feminist and women s history has changed from the
biting and often uncomfortable rhetoric of 1970s feminism to more neutral

Drugs And Its Effects On Society
Throughout history, the use of drugs, both for recreational and medical purposes, has had a profound
impact on society that is still prevalent in today s society. After the end of the Second World War, the
pharmaceutical industry was booming and drugs became this tool that could solve all of human s
problems. Many companies invested in this area which led to many breakthroughs for cures; however,
during this time period, another branched stemmed from all of this glory of drugs. The 1960s drug
culture was a major epoch when the use of recreational drugs became widespread with the help of the
media. The government missed an opportunity to enforce their drug laws during the emergence of
drugs during this time which led to many problems afterwards; the government should have been
stricter with their drug enforcement laws which could have prevented many problems: the widespread
of LSD was dangerous to society, laws should be enforced so people cannot break them without
consequences, and the damage of drug use depends on the type but is, ultimately, harmful to the user.
Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, also known as LSD, is a drug that was originally developed by a Swiss
chemist named Albert Hoffman, with the original purpose of stimulating breathing and blood
circulation to help (Freeman, 2015). Hoffman s experiment did not achieve the results he hoped for,
and the drug as a hallucinogen was not discovered until the year 1943. Hoffman believed he found the

Measurement of Problems
It has been observed that during peak hours, each train is over filled by 3 4 times its seating capacity.
And during peak hours on roads, there are frequent long traffic slowdowns or halts. These busy times
are measured as follows: for local trains the percent full per train and for roads the minimum speed of
traffic. This measurement system can be mapped to measure the effect of solving transportation
problem on the overall quality of life of Mumbaikars. By maximizing the suggested measurement
specifications, a train can be filled up to 1.4 1.6 times its seating capacity and on roads, there should
not be a complete traffic halt (apart from exceptional circumstances) and traffic movement should
maintain a minimum of 25 35 km/h. A solution fails if it does not meet these specifications a minimum
of 95 percent of the time. For calculating impact on quality of life in Mumbai, it is assumed that
transportation problems contribute 15 percent to the overall reduction. If the solution system works
within specifications, it improves a person s quality of life by 15 percent. If the solution fails to

Imperialism In England And Germany
The early 19th and 20th centuries in England and Germany were times that would define modern
Europe for ages. While England had been a world superpower since the 1500 s, they had to compete
with Germany, a new and emerging country. For in the newer countries, imperialism was giving the
people a newfound sense of nationalism further empowering people. Modernizing industry at a rapid
pace shaped the workforce, while political systems were beginning to change in England while taking
shape in Germany. Yet, Germany s new found nationalism and industry ended up making them a
stronger nation than England.
In 1871, Realpolitik was at its height when Otto von Bismarck of Prussia formed Germany. Bismarck
was appointed as the prime minister of Prussia to crush the growing power of the liberals. It was his
job to instill conservative values while avoiding progressive thinking with Western Europe. Bismarck
used war as a political tactic by getting into wars he knew could win for Prussia. He lured Denmark
and France into war to beat them and add to a growing sense of pride and nationalism within the
German states. Two houses of government formed with the aristocracy having more power than the
lower house. The biggest downside of Bismarck getting into wars with surrounding countries was that
Germany was not industrializing over this period of time. Although, once Germany unified, Bismarck
was able to jumpstart the economy by implementing a series of laws that would help businesses

Bmi Effect On Children
Body Mass Index (BMI) is the measurement of weight and height correlated to total body fat content.
In children, ages 2 18, if BMI exceeds 30 the child is considered obese. If the child s BMI is greater
than the 85th percentile, but under the 95th percentile, the child is classified as overweight (Edelman,
Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). Health issues associated with being overweight/obese include increased risk
of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, or heart disease (Edelman et al., 2014). An
overweight/obese child is also at risk for social issues. Being overweight/obese can have a social
effect on children, by making them feel rejected by peers, and causing them to have a low self esteem
or negative view of their body (Edelman et al., 2014).

The Individualism Of The American Colonies
In this passage, Paine emphasizes how the unique individualism of the American colonies cannot exist
under Great Britain. While it may be a rational and more peaceful decision to remain under Great
Britain s control, the oppression of the American colonies individualism is one that goes against
common sense and is a situation that calls for a passionate revolution. The emphasis on individualism
and passionate expression of the self during the late 18th and early 19th century is also exemplified in
the musical realm through the revolutionary work of one of the most highly influential musicians,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At the time of Mozart s birth, the most popular and conventional music
was created in the style of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. After the discovery of Mozart s
prodigal musical genius and honing his skill through several positions of employment, Mozart began
to realize his individualism as a gifted artist. Mozart became aware of his potential for greatness and
used his gift not to conform to the style of music at the time, but to use his music as a form of
passionate self expression. Mozart would not let anything extinguish his passion and freedom to
create, even if it caused him great financial struggle throughout most of adulthood. The musical pieces
Mozart created differed from that the music of the time in the sense that his work was highly driven by
passion and emotion. Rather than focusing solely on the structure and the elaborateness of the

The Id, Ego and Superego Shown in Frankenstein and Dr....
Frankenstein: the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson both show Freud s ideas of Id, Ego and Superego as well as of innate
desire. Frankenstein: the Modern Prometheus shows Freud s stages of psychosexual development.
Collectively both novels should be considered Freudian through these ideas. Jekyll and Hyde works as
a symbolic portrayal of the goodness and evil that resides in equal measure within the soul of a man. It
pre empted Freudian psychoanalysis by twenty five years and yet is similar to some of his theories. In
Frankenstein both the monster and Victor exemplify Freud s developmental stages.

Hyde, his dark side is unleashed. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are but one; one body but two conflicting
characters, the good and evil. In Frankenstein: the Modern Prometheus we see the monster as the
outward expression of Victor s Id or his demoniacal passions. Freud believed that personality develops
through a series of childhood stages during which the pleasure seeking energies of the id become
focused on certain behaviors. These childhood stages are known as the psycosexual developmental
stages.

Analysis of The Moose Essay examples
Analysis of The Moose
Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are
not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six
syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between
verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive
details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained.
The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick.
While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The
appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly ... Show more content on

The thirty six line introduction is the most sustained piece of writing in the poem. It forms a sequence
of red leaved and purple Canadian landscapes through which the blue bus journeys. Then, in smaller
units, for another thirty six lines the bus route is reviewed, main stops mentioned, and further details
concerning the passengers, the weather, and the scenic sights duly recorded. Day is replaced by
evening, and light gives way to darkness. The eleventh stanza brings in a climactic moment of
equilibrium and economy of design. Beginning with the thirteenth stanza, the first quotes are used, as
they will again be in the twentieth, twenty fourth and twenty fifth, and, finally, in the twenty seventh
stanza. Stanza 14 the moonlight episode is the very center of the poem. This section is rhymeless,
though this is amply compensated for by the triple epithets in the third line, and it marks the transition
from the outer, natural world to the inner, human concerns of the second part of the work, which
includes lines 85 129. Usually unchronicled and unheroic human tragedy receives an indirect
presentation, culminating with the moving and dramatically rendered twentieth stanza. The third part
of the poem begins, appropriately, in mid stanza with line 130. The encounter with the moose the
climax of the entire poem is allotted two descriptive stanzas (the twenty fourth and the twenty sixth).
The remaining two stanzas form a kind of a coda,

Managing human emotions plays a critical role in everyday functioning. After years of lively debate
on the significance and validity of its construct, emotional intelligence (EI) has generated a robust
body of theories, research studies, and measures (Stough, Saklofske, amp; Parker). There has been
work and many ideas by Jack Mayer, Peter Salovey, David Caruso, Daniel Goleman, and Steve Hein
to name a few. All researchers have different interpretations of the term emotional intelligence and
different visions of what emotional intelligence can mean for humanity (Hein, 2005). In 1985 Wayne
Leon Payne, then a graduate student at an alternative liberal arts college in the USA, wrote a doctoral
dissertation which included the term emotional intelligence in the title. This seems to be the first
academic use of the term emotional intelligence. In the next five years no one else seems to have used
the term emotional intelligence in any academic paper. Then in 1990 the work of two American
university professors, John Mayer and Peter Salovey, was published in two academic journal articles.
Mayer and Salovey were trying to develop a way of scientifically measuring the difference between
people s ability in the area of emotions. They found that some people were better than others at things
like identifying their own feelings, identifying the feelings of others, and solving problems involving
emotional issues. Since 1990 these professors

State Theatre History
State theatre companies play an important role in a community, state and country. State theatre
companies are ones that are directly funded by the government to showcase theatre. State theatre
companies exist to create a cultural environment for the country, and to entertain and educate a wider
audience than some of the lesser known theatre companies. They do this by creating a mainstage
season that appeals to the entirety of the Australian audience, state theatre companies are essential to a

It was originally styled the Royal Queensland Theatre Company. It was initially established as both a
training and a touring company. The company s origin lay in a decision by the Queensland
government in February 1969 to appoint a board to establish a state theatre company. The Australia
Council had made a decision to fund a state company in every state. The board had to choose between
the various options of promoting one of the local amateur companies to professional or starting a new
company. The board failed to come to an agreement and the government intervened. The company
granted statutory recognition in 1970 was the first federally funded professional theatre company in
Queensland. It took up residence in the new 611 seat SGIO Theatre, renamed the Suncorp Theatre in
1986, near the central business district in Brisbane. The founding artistic director was Alan Edwards,
an English actor. His regular performances were a feature of the company under his administration.
The first production he directed was the musical A Rum

  • 2. Water as a Source of Future Conflict in Sa CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Fierce competition for fresh water may well become a source of conflict and wars in the future. Kofi Annan, former U.N. Secretary General in 2001 Background of the Study 1. Water is directly related with the survival of human kind and it is crucial unlike other resources, because it does not have choices and alternatives. As a consequence of global warming and pollution, importance of water has increased much. Some 2 billion people already lack water supplies. Water use has risen six fold over the past 70 years. By 2050, it is estimated that 4.2 billion people live in countries that cannot meet people s daily basis needs. South Asia is a region of water abundance and scarcity. Issues concerning water ... As global claim for water swell up but utilizable freshwater resources reduce, several research have been carried out to imply that water shortage is and will be a chief basis of armed conflict; but little methodical research has examined this theme from a national security perspective i.e. the militarization of the river claim. 7. While taking SA into consideration, the most important and abundant factor for the development is water. This factor is thus regarded as a very crucial in keeping the relation between the countries. However understanding and peaceful the countries may seem, the water factor has been affecting the inter state relationships now and will be doing the same in the future in an ever increasing fashion. The ups and downs in the relationship are sure to result in the armed conflict as the water resources being the only cause. Accounting to the issues of water; this research paper focuses in the security issues and the interrelated political situation caused by the water resources of the river basin of the SA. 8. Comparing The Sit-In And Freedom Riders Sit In and Freedom Riders From the 1950 s to the early 1960 s of the United State, colored people were treated unfairly by segregation, which was a separation between colored people and white people. The Southern United States was the most racist and violent part of U.S. because of the Jim Crow Laws enforcing the racial segregation over all the public places to separate African Americans and white people. However, the segregation finally came to an end due to the civil rights movement in 1964, and one of the main nonviolent protests of the civil rights movement were the Sit In and Freedom Riders. Sit In and the Freedom Riders demonstrated the rights of the African Americans and accelerated the civil rights movement. First of all, the Sit In and the Freedom Riders protest were trying to show how unfair the segregation was and how violent and racist the white people were in the segregation, and potentially stop the segregation. • 4. The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act Of 2010 Individual Mandate a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Maria Colon Jones Liberty University PPOL 501 May 9, 2016 Public policy is a system of laws, regulatory measures, a course of action by which a government maintains order or addresses the needs of its citizens through actions defined by its constitution. The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act is a great example of the power vested in the government to establish laws that will assist in health care reform to provide coverage for many. The PPACA was signed into law in March 2010 by President Barak Obama. This act represents a major adjusting of the health care system in the United States. The Act affirms that everybody should have some basic security when it comes to their health care. There have been many debates and questions of the constitutionally of the health care law. The issue of the individual mandate is one that was highly debated and objected by many. The individual mandate requires that all individuals to purchase some minimally insurance policy or pay a penalty. Many feel that such a policy represents a fundamental threat to liberty and an unprecedented leap of power by the federal government and clearly unconstitutional. On June 28, 2012, in a 5 to 4 ruling the Supreme Court upheld that President Obama s health care overhaul, indicating that it s a requirement that most Americans obtain insurance or pay a penalty was authorized by Congress s ... Protocols for training for the different learning paradigms are shown in Fig 1. We anticipate that we will observe aging dependent decrease in the ability to learn as reported in vertebrates. In order to understand synaptic aging, the above behavioral experiments will be coupled with electrophysiological measurements of L7MN LESN connections. Briefly, in the above preparation, abdominal ganglion is partially desheathed to gain access to measure electrophysiological properties using sharp electrodes. Similar experiments were performed on R15 neuron in the abdominal ganglia (See Fig 2 3). Specifically, we will measure the resting membrane potential, resistance and postsynaptic potentials (PSPs) before and after different behavior training paradigms described above [6,34]. PSPs are a measure of strength of synaptic connections. These experiments will answer whether during aging (1) passive properties such as basic membrane resting potential and resistance change and (2) active properties such as excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials change. How does aging affect synaptic plasticity? (Aim1) We will carry out synaptic plasticity measurements using a reduced preparation containing abdominal ganglia from mature and old animals. DuBois expresses how the race institutions and disfranchisement promote racial tensions that unilaterally destroy any sense of cultural unity in the Middle West and throughout the nation. Mr. DuBois encourages the blacks to not give back because they were guaranteed the same rights after the Civil War and that the disenfranchisement through local laws such as those of Jim Crow would serve as a lesson to the nation. The Humboldt Current extends along the coast of Peru and Southern Chile up to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Although the current has unique features, it faces a serious of environmental challenges. The first one being the cold surface currents. Not only does the cool current produces nutrient rich waters that rise to the surface and attract multiple fish populations, but it causes the concentrated area to become vulnerable to anthropogenic ocean acidification. Towards Christmas season, the cold current is replaced by warm current that flows southward along the coasts of Ecuador and Peru. Productivity in the Humboldt Current weakens as the warm water is pushed into the ocean by strong winds. The warmer waters produces higher surface levels in which the surface becomes overheated. Sea levels rise 40 to 50 cm and water temperatures increase by 2 to 3 degrees celsius. This drastically effects economies in Peru and Educator because the availability of nutrients is reduced causing extreme food shortages. Combined with overfishing and El Nino events, the fishing industry went into decline between 1971 and 1972. It took years for the anchovy stock to recover. Many anchovies starved, as well as the higher trophic level who prey on the fish. Since there is not enough fish to go around during this specific time, many of the fishes will also migrate. In addition, El Nino causes more rainfall then normal in which agriculture output is reduced (Madl, 2000). Wheat planting was affected by a wetter than normal winter season and a significant reduction in planted area because wheat growth depends on good weather conditions (FAO, 1997). In the classic play, Medea escapes without punishment and we are told as an audience it is not our place to question the motives and/or actions of the gods. Within the framework of modern, psychologically rendered characters and in the absence of supernatural meddling, Anouilh attempts not only to question the motives but to posit answers to the open ended questions left by Euripides. While the characters, especially Jason and Medea, do not acknowledge divine forces as potent elements shaping their actions, they are keenly aware of their recurring roles throughout literary history. They force the reader to make a more substantial connection or comparison with the previous work. One might try to recast the earlier analogy, replacing the Greek gods with Anouilh. The characters are his tools, his puppets. This, however, is too simplistic. Anouilh himself must acknowledge the limits of the tale, not simply the sequence of events, but themes and ideas within it, if he is to retell it. In this sense Anouilh is confined and he makes the reader aware of this fact. Within these self imposed limits, though, Anouilh is free to revise, review, elucidate, and articulate the ideas, actions, and opinions of each character. And it is to this end that Jason is raised by Anouilh from the ranks of dramatic foil to an emotional and psychological match for Medea. Jason is left spinning out of control at the conclusion of the original play, wondering how this could have happened and why. Medea escapes untouched and the Chorus is left to restore order. Anouilh s Jason is faced with the murder of his children, fiancé, and future father in law as well as Medea s suicide. Medea, consumed by the fires of her own passion and madness, takes her own life. For more than a century, intelligence and security services have played a role within Russian foreign and domestic policy. The czars, General Secretaries of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and all post Soviet leaders have viewed these services as crucial in coping with rebels and domestic terrorists, and gathering intelligence on both internal and external threats. One of the first official Russian Intelligence agencies created was the Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counterrevolution and Sabotage (CHEKA) in 1918 (Pringle, 2011). This agency was responsible for foreign intelligence, domestic security, counterintelligence, and border control until 1921 when it was disbanded. It is a documentary about the complexities of Shakespeare, the performing of the play Richard III, and the ignorance of the average American regarding Shakespeare. The unusual nature of the film it s similar to a filmed Cliff notes version of the text provokes wildly different reactions from film buffs, critics, and Shakespeare purists. Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose of Pacino s film to be. Brennan s hypothesis is that Pacino s primary objective is to find meaning in Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr. Joe Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable text. How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino achieved these goals, so it is important to discuss them. Dre, a Girls on Film critic, offers another similar conjecture as to what Pacino s goals for the film were. According to the first name only Dre, the purpose of the film was to present a tribute to Shakespeare, to explore the acting process, and to explain and portray a version of Richard III. Giving the film the page s highest rating, it is obvious that Dre feels the film delivers on its goals. In fact, much of Dre s words match quite closely with the reasons Pacino stated onscreen for making the film to present Shakespeare in a more contemporary form for the average American. In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the Challenge of Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be more closely linked. This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field and applying them to the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in her introduction that this text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though this statement holds, due to the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined, explored, or analyzed (4 5). Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without properly defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known these terms. Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different interpretations based upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and wanting female superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the various schools of feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes are still valid. While England had been a world superpower since the 1500 s, they had to compete with Germany, a new and emerging country. For in the newer countries, imperialism was giving the people a newfound sense of nationalism further empowering people. Modernizing industry at a rapid pace shaped the workforce, while political systems were beginning to change in England while taking shape in Germany. Yet, Germany s new found nationalism and industry ended up making them a stronger nation than England. In 1871, Realpolitik was at its height when Otto von Bismarck of Prussia formed Germany. Bismarck was appointed as the prime minister of Prussia to crush the growing power of the liberals. It was his job to instill conservative values while avoiding progressive thinking with Western Europe. Bismarck used war as a political tactic by getting into wars he knew could win for Prussia. He lured Denmark and France into war to beat them and add to a growing sense of pride and nationalism within the German states. Two houses of government formed with the aristocracy having more power than the lower house. The emphasis on individualism and passionate expression of the self during the late 18th and early 19th century is also exemplified in the musical realm through the revolutionary work of one of the most highly influential musicians, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Jekyll says This, as I take it, was because all human beings, as we meet them are commingled out of good and evil: and Edward Hyde alone in the ranks of mankind, was pure evil (Stevenson 108). Here Jekyll clearly states that he knows Hyde is evil yet he still cannot overpower his Id and then his Superego is overcome. By turning into Hyde, Jekyll feels free and can do whatever he wants without the slightest hesitation. Following his innate desires Hyde murders Sir Danvers Carew and tramples a young girl. These actions are done through the Id and even though Jekyll is civilized law abiding man once the Id has taken over and he transforms into Hyde, his dark side is unleashed. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are but one; one body but two conflicting characters, the good and evil. In Frankenstein: the Modern Prometheus we see the monster as the outward expression of Victor s Id or his demoniacal passions. Freud believed that personality develops through a series of childhood stages during which the pleasure seeking energies of the id become focused on certain behaviors. These childhood stages are known as the psycosexual developmental stages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis of The Moose Essay examples Analysis of The Moose Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained. The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick. While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thirty six line introduction is the most sustained piece of writing in the poem. It forms a sequence of red leaved and purple Canadian landscapes through which the blue bus journeys. Then, in smaller units, for another thirty six lines the bus route is reviewed, main stops mentioned, and further details concerning the passengers, the weather, and the scenic sights duly recorded. Day is replaced by evening, and light gives way to darkness. The eleventh stanza brings in a climactic moment of equilibrium and economy of design. Beginning with the thirteenth stanza, the first quotes are used, as they will again be in the twentieth, twenty fourth and twenty fifth, and, finally, in the twenty seventh stanza. Stanza 14 the moonlight episode is the very center of the poem. This section is rhymeless, though this is amply compensated for by the triple epithets in the third line, and it marks the transition from the outer, natural world to the inner, human concerns of the second part of the work, which includes lines 85 129. Usually unchronicled and unheroic human tragedy receives an indirect presentation, culminating with the moving and dramatically rendered twentieth stanza. The third part of the poem begins, appropriately, in mid stanza with line 130. The encounter with the moose the climax of the entire poem is allotted two descriptive stanzas (the twenty fourth and the twenty sixth). The remaining two stanzas form a kind of a coda, ... Managing human emotions plays a critical role in everyday functioning. After years of lively debate on the significance and validity of its construct, emotional intelligence (EI) has generated a robust body of theories, research studies, and measures (Stough, Saklofske, amp; Parker). There has been work and many ideas by Jack Mayer, Peter Salovey, David Caruso, Daniel Goleman, and Steve Hein to name a few. All researchers have different interpretations of the term emotional intelligence and different visions of what emotional intelligence can mean for humanity (Hein, 2005). In 1985 Wayne Leon Payne, then a graduate student at an alternative liberal arts college in the USA, wrote a doctoral dissertation which included the term emotional intelligence in the title. This seems to be the first academic use of the term emotional intelligence. In the next five years no one else seems to have used the term emotional intelligence in any academic paper. Then in 1990 the work of two American university professors, John Mayer and Peter Salovey, was published in two academic journal articles. Mayer and Salovey were trying to develop a way of scientifically measuring the difference between people s ability in the area of emotions.
