Essay on The Epic of Gilgamesh
In the ancient Mesopotamian world, the realm of civilization was viewed to be highly illustrious. At
the same time, this state of advancement of great antiquity was also an attribute of divinity. The
elements of civilization were intimately associated to the highly esteemed divine mediation. Despite
the prominent theology culture in The Epic of Gilgamesh, divine intervention is not the only element
that could transform the crude heroic figures into sagacious men. Strength and power are definitely
not the only possessions that could advance one in life even though they clearly distinguish the heroes
from ordinary men. It is rather, more significantly, the process of internalization. No civilization
emerges directly and independently it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the King of Uruk is expected to be highly civilized, ironically he does not appear to be
so. Overwhelmed with ego, arrogance and complete misuse of power, Gilgamesh has condemned
civilization insofar his existence. He thwarts his humanity by emphasizing his strength and power in
order to be more successful, forsaking the well being of his people. Hearing the laments and cries of
the people of Uruk, the gods then create Enkidu as a match for Gilgamesh. For Enkidu is a divine
creation, with [a] virtue in him like the god of war Ninurta, long waved hair of the goddess of corn
Nisaba, and body of matted hair like the god of cattle Samuqan (Sandars 63), one would have
expected him to be a lesson to Gilgamesh. However, the creation of Enkidu does not really answer the
people s grieving as an equal who can contend with Gilgamesh together and keep him busy from all
his iniquities (Sandars 62). Enkidu can never be Gilgamesh s match as he is created completely human
while Gilgamesh two third divine.
This strategy, in fact, works in a different manner whereby Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh the real
significance of being a human. This shows a fascinating twist as Gilgamesh s intention to tame Enkidu
by sending him a prostitute instead mirrors his taming by Enkidu. It is because Enkidu s indulgence in
sex with the prostitute for six days and seven nights that

Examples Of Post Colonialism
Introduction
This thesis aims to read Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness (1898), and Nostromo, A Tale of Seaboard
(1904) in a post colonialist perspective. Post colonialism is a theory applied to literature and
developed after colonialism, in middle of the 20th century. The theory is based on colonized countries
by the colonial powers. The concept of postcolonialism is connected with the effects of colonization
on societies and cultures. The term has been used by literary critics to discuss various effects of
colonization after the late 1970s. Post Colonialism is the hyphenated term which marks historical
period as is suggested by phrases such as after colonialism , after independence , after the end of
empire where as the term postcolonialism referring to all qualities of a society or culture from the time

Conrad himself was a member of imperial culture and utilized his own experiences he gained as a
seamen in Congo and the Malay Archipelago when he wrote his Heart of Darkness . While writing
Nostromo Conrad was aware of the politics of the world s great powers, and his text was shaped by
the pervasive ideologies of the time.
Heart of Darkness includes four month of Conrad in Congo, and his command of a Congo River
steamboat. Conrad experienced and saw the violence made by the European explorers and traders in
Congo. He created the embodiment of European imperialism in his character, Kurtz. The novel tell the
story of Marlow, a seamen who undertakes his own journey into the African Jungle to find the
European trader, Kurtz.
Nostromo is one of the greatest and most complex novels of Conrad. Conrad shows, the social and
political disorder in South American states whose silver mine serves both literally and metaphorically

The Time Succeeding Herbert Hoover s Presidency

IB History of the Americas Period 10
13 December 2014
Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of
reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s
trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with
upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to
approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some
received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an
attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt
s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as
they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in
saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse
of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached
to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the
New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was
passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. This act helped produce loans, credit and investment
opportunities for the public. The production

Kairos Cooke Bake
I attended the service activity of Kairos Cooke Bake for the 2PM 3PM shift on this past Saturday. This
activity was chosen because I wasn t doing something for myself. Helping others is a passion of mine
and one of my goals in life is to help people, especially young women, to the right path in life. When
it was explained in class to me that the cookies made in this event would go to prisoners, I
immediately knew that this was the service activity for me. Kairos Cookie bake comes from the Greek
word Kairos meaning the opportune moment. Kairos is the perfect name for them, because the
purpose of their origination is to show love and kindness to the prisoners, letting them know they have
been forgiven for their sins. Over 72,000 cookies are

To What Extent Did Support for the Nazi Party Change...
Joshua Painter 27/11/13 Nazi Support To what extent did support for the Nazi party change between
the years of 1923 33? Between the years of 1923 to 1933 support for the Nazi Party grew 37% from
7% share of the votes in 1924 to a much larger 44% in the elections of 1933. The success that the Nazi
Party gained over these years was due to many changes and promises that Hitler and the Nazi Party
made to the public. As the Nazi party had done so poorly in the 1924 elections, gaining just a 5%
share of the votes, Hitler knew that he would have to make some drastic changes in order to gain ...

Communists would frequently attend these speeches and they often ended up in violence and disorder.
Hitler used this to his and the Nazi Parties advantage by using the SA to restore law and order which
made the Weimar police look powerless. He would then accuse the Weimar government of lacking
leadership and power and promised people that if he was in charge he would be able to restore
German law and order. This helped him gain extensive support. The SA would also march through the
streets in hundreds or thousands in full uniform. This gave the German people a sense of power which
tipped them towards voting for the Nazi Party. Hitler also used the SA to scare any opposing political
parties away. He would send the SA to shadow their steps and stand around the leaders always in
sight. This gave the opposition a clear message that the Nazi s knew what they were doing at all times
and stopped any bad mouthing of the Nazi Party. This helped the Nazi Party gain much support as
there were no other parties speaking badly of the Nazi Party which made people believe that they were
a good party.
The Wall Street Crash was another important reason or the Nazi Party gaining support in the years
1923 33. The Wall Street Crash happened in 1929 and left Germany s economy crippled. As Germany
was dependant on loans from America, when America stopped giving these loans to Germany the

Nathan s View Of Justice In The Poisonwood Bible
In a novel by William Styron, a father tells his son that life is a search for justice. In
The Poisonwood Bible, a novel written by Barbara Kingsolver, the father in the novel, Nathan
Price, has a significant view of justice and pursues justice through earthly punishments. Nathan s
religious view of justice ultimately leads to his constant misfortunes, the dissolving of his family, his
shame for his family, and contributes to the novel as a whole.
Through his many experiences in The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price developed his own personal
view of justice by retribution. Nathan s company died, to the man, on the Death
March from Bataan... But he would not be back, so far as those boys in Bataan were concerned, and
neither would the soldier boy I d married. He came home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of escaping the Bataan Death March by sheer chance while his friends were subject to the certain
death that awaited, therefore making Nathan feel like a coward and therefore subjected to being
punished by God. My father woke up the next morning with a horrible rash on his hands and arms,

form of earthly punishment by God, and that all of his misfortunes are a result of him disappointing
God. This idea that all of his punishment and misfortunes come from disappointing
God causes Nathan Price to become more buried into his broken and judgmental view of

I Am An Outsider Looking At The Organization As An Insider
I am an outsider looking at the organization as an insider due to commanding one of the battalions in
4th ABCT. This strength is also a weakness that can lure me into a false sense of comfort in a time
where action is desperately needs. Since my departure the unit has conducted a deployment to
Afghanistan and is in the final stage of the reintegration. My brigade is suffering from a lack of
mission commitment as a result of several different missions and minimal leadership involvement. In
developing a new path for the 4th ABCT the key is to examine the problem, then develop a new
vision, and finally use the Kotter s 8 Stage Model to anchor lasting improvement to the organization.
This situation presents an opportunity to my command to customize the unit to meet its challenges in
the future. Problems in a unit returning from deployment are nothing new, but the 4th ABCT is going
down a dangerous path if the situation is not course corrected. At the heart of the problem the unit is
suffering from a lack of mission commitment as a result of several different missions and minimal
leadership involvement. While deployed my new unit trained for one mission and then was divided up
once in country to carry out several missions to include a Security Force Advisor Team. Soldiers
trained on one set of task then were utilized completely differently. The unit feels betrayed by the
Army s last minute decision to align the unit towards this new mission only hurting commitment

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Analysis
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by uncontrollable,
unwanted thoughts and repetitive, ritualized behaviors patients feel compelled to perform. When
people have OCD, they probably recognize their obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors as
irrational, but they are unable to resist them.
The DSM 5 provides clinicians with official definitions of and criteria for diagnosing mental disorders
and dysfunctions. Most people with OCD have both obsessions and compulsions, but some people
experience just one or the other (Criterion A). Obsessions are defined by recurrent and persistent
thoughts, urges, or impulses. These are experienced, as intrusive and unwanted, and in most
individuals cause marked anxiety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Males have an earlier OCD onset age than females and are more likely to have comorbid tic disorders.
Gender differences in the pattern of symptom dimensions have been reported. Females are more likely
to have symptoms focused on cleaning and males more likely to have symptoms connected to
forbidden thoughts and symmetry dimensions.
3. Are there any ethical considerations? For example, are there concerns related to offering medication
versus talk therapy? Even in the presentation of symptoms, or which treatment options they select?
Getting proper treatment is essential so patients can learn how to take control of their OCD and gain
relief. Getting relief from OCD is possible with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), sometimes in
combination with medication. CBT has received broad scientific support as the most effective
behavioral treatment for OCD.
Many adolescents struggle with OCD and Lady Macbeth was typical in this respect. Symptoms of this
disorder may cause great distress, and this is intensified when a person is unwilling to admit that
outside help is necessary. It is important to know that teens should be active participants in recovery
from OCD. They have to be willing to engage in CBT and recognize it as something that can help
them overcome the disorder rather than as one more demand made by their

Depression Among Older Adults
Alcohol is often associated as a mild case among substance use disorders despite that there are many
persons diagnosed with alcohol use. Based on the survey conducted by the World Health Organization
(2005), the worldwide per capita consumption of alcoholic beverages equaled 6.13 litres of pure
alcohol consumed by every person aged 15 years or older. Likewise, it was reported that each person
consumes 28.6% or 1.76 litres of homemade and illegally produced alcohol and is considered
unrecorded alcohol. Since most studies on alcohol abuse focuses on the younger generations, only few
literatures were found on cases among older adults. Elderly people are hospitalized due to alcohol
abuse due to higher sensitivity and poorer ability to metabolize alcohol (Saitz, 2003). They are advised
to moderately drink with no more than two drinks on a single occasion as they are at risk for
interpersonal and functioning problems (Merrick et. al., 2007). Though less prevalent, it was found by

Abstract
We will discuss in this paper the data warehousing and the online processing of data. We will describe
the best ways to manage the data and the difficulties that you could face. Also we will talk about how
can we solve or reduce these difficulties.
Database Management Systems (DBMS)
Database Management Systems (DBMS) maximize:

Data Warehousing
Data warehousing is a powerful business intelligence tool for maximizing the organization s
investment in the information technology. It is can be describe as a collection of decision support
technologies, maid to allow executive, manager, and analyst, to make faster decisions.
IT managers need to learn and implement data warehousing because it is very powerful tool provides
storage, functionality and responsiveness to queries beyond the capabilities of today s databases. It
also improves the data access performance. Since it is very rare today to remove the data because most
users have only read access also rapid access to a larger volume of data which could be inconvenient

My Family Road Trip
Family Road Trip It was a hot summer day. You could see the heat rise up from the road. The sun
scorched the the sidewalk so intensely I could have fried an egg on it. We had just gotten done loading
our luggage in the van. I grabbed my phone and headed for the door. We were ready to go to the
airport. We had been planning on our trip to California for days. Everyone would not shut up about
seeing our relatives. I just couldn t wait to leave this dreadful, miserable, boring place called Sedalia.
We went to get some gas because it was like a 3 hour drive. When we stopped my mom was the only
one who got out because she didn t want to deal with annoying brats, my sisters. So I was stuck with
them, alone, by myself, in a car. It sounded like there was a zoo behind me and the monkeys just got
loose. Other people were looking at our car and in their face there was horror. My mom finally gets
back and we start to drive. Sense we re going out of state on an airplane, we couldn t take our car with
us. So we went to go pick up my mom s husband from work. He wasn t going to california with us so
he could take the car. We pick him up, he chucks his lunch box to the middle, and he takes the wheel.
We start driving, again. I ve never really liked my mom s husband, he s always hated me and one of
my sisters because we aren t his. I really don t like anyone I live with. My mom loses things like our
birth certificate, her driver s license, even her bills. I m so over it. My sisters, my sisters are little
spoiled crybabies. When i was there age, I was hit so many times that the buckle of a belt feels like a
pinch. I cried when I got kicked on the side. They cry if someone raises their voice at them the
slightest bit. I m the smartest person in the house, so I m constantly angry because everyone comes to
me when they need help. I help with things like homework, I translate for my mom and her husband, I
never had help. I ve always been on my own, if I need help with something like homework, well that s
too bad because if I don t know something they definitely won t. This road trip is hell, my sisters don t
shut up, my mom is reading the bible out loud, my mom s husband has mexican music on blast, and I
m just quietly suffering.

Relationship Between Human Relationship With Humans
The Metaphysical correlation with Humans
In God s elemental metaphysics, Angels, Jins, demons and the universe of nature are intertwined and
interact continuously and continuously to form the process of metaphysics in everyday life.
Metaphysics is an abstract reconstruction of events composed of components of human action that
starts with the physical action thought, done and spoken. Metaphysics is also a typical manifestation
of humanity and the phenomenon of human existence. The close interconnection between man and
metaphysics is illustrated by the role of metaphysics in the process of forming attributes that
ultimately shape the character of the human identity. The introduction of metaphysics is a fact that can
trace back from the earliest human development. In this case, humans play a role in presenting the
existence of history that can arise if the human life had moved to tomorrow and leave yesterday. Thus,
yesterday as the embodiment of human existence in the history of his life. The person who is forty, or
sixty years old, is of course not born at that age, and this proves that every human being has a past as a
proof of the existence of history in which there is a human role in history. Impossible Iqbal s history
can express as the process appears without the meaning of human role. Man as an object of
metaphysics consists of physical, soul and spirit is the inherent unity of humans.

Primordial and Modernist Schooling
Primordial school Primordial school and modernist school are two very important main streams in
identity study. Especially, in the national identity study, both of them have involved the study of
nationalism and have a very unlike view of it. And they are often highly debated of the origins of
nations and their identity. The root of primordial school is originally based on the German
romanticism and it mainly argues how those fixed factors influence in identity shape process. Those
factors are constantly stable throughout the history and hardly changed. The factors have been passed
on to generations and constructing the identity of people who lives in nowadays. For example,
language is one of these elements. Language is unique and distinct from other ones. People who speak
this language will have their own identity and formed a special group which makes them different
from other language speaking groups. And in primordial school idea, same language speaking group
will result in similar thought. Because of people learn language from the community where they live
and each community will has its thought or behavior. These will transmit to people who learn that
language. Therefore, for primordial school language is one of the key elements in identity shaping.
Another pivotal and principle factor for shaping identity is the kinship. Primordial school argues that
people joining into groups by their blood or genetic relationship with each other. Family members will

Despite this the company has much strength in the way that it operates, for example the company has

* Market Research
* A analysis of the accounts and sales of the company
The main purpose of the works study would provide Morgan with the evidence of the problem within
the company and to highlight the specific problems in the company. For example the poor logistics
and layout of the factory which means that the cars have to be manually moved around the factory
from one stage to another. The works study will highlight the areas that need to be improved by the
business, and how they can be improved, for example the car is predominantly made by hand, can be
improved by the incorporation of tooling which is likely to make little difference to the nature and
finished quality of the product. The work study would highlight the problem of the length of
production for the product which is currently three months and how this could be improved. The work
study will be used to show the management and workforce the need for

Western Influence on Kuwait
Kuwait and Western influence Over the past decades, Kuwait, like most Islamic countries have
practiced strict measures in terms of their governance system with lots of times the religious aspect
influencing greatly the kind of government in place and the type of governance that is used within
Kuwait. This resulted in a closed, less democratic, religious, stereotypical and generally patriarchal

How Does Caning Affect Children
Caning is not good for children development as it will affect the children s mental and behaviour, the
children s relationship with others and children s learning process will be affected badly.
BODY PARAGRAPH
1) In long term, caning will affect the children s mental and behaviour of children. According to
neuroimaging evidence, corporal punishment could disturb the brain part that involved emotion and
stress handling. Research with 35,000 participation that being carried out by University of Manibota

supported by a statement from Joan Durrant, who is a child clinical psychologist and professor of

Cyber Warfare Is Not Fully Understood
Cyber warfare is a relatively new concept to the imagination, but its novelty should not belie its
importance to be understood at all echelons of a command structure. It is an emerging reality, and its
relevance is proportionate to the continuous global expansion and convergence of digital networks.
The capabilities of cyber warfighting strategies and tactics are extensive, and a need for a common
language and understanding is necessary for cyber warfighting capabilities. Within any culture,
language is developed through a symbolic evolution, and military science has largely built its own
unique vocabulary and terminology to describe conventional and unconventional warfare. Whether
this language can be applied to cyber warfare is not fully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The essence of Glad s essay is that descriptions of war are largely reflective of the culture and political
environment of their time. This applies just as easily to our modern era, when cyber warfare presents
an unknown frontier through which it must be described in intelligible terms.
Beyond the cultural context through which we understand warfare is the biological context. The
vocabulary of kinetic warfare derives from our five senses, similar to how classical physics started
with an exploration of objects and phenomena that were readily available to our senses. Our senses
initially limited how science was conducted. The smallest object that an unaided eye can see is about
0.1 mm in diameter (). The farthest a 6 feet tall standing human can see is about 3 miles because of the
curvature of the earth. Unlike other organisms, such as sharks, humans cannot sense electrical stimuli
and locate objects based off of changes in electric currents (). For the majority of humans, vision is the
primary sense for navigating the world. Other organisms, such as ants, rely on smell as their primary
sense for navigation (). Vision makes the world appear as having sharp boundaries, whereas

Comparing the Marxist and Functionalist Views on the Role of Education in Industrial Society
The functionalists and the Marxists both believe that the education system benefits everyone, but both
have different views on society. The Marxist views of the education system are that there are conflicts
because there is an inequality between the working class and the higher classes. They believe that
there are two different classes which education produces, and that is the working class and the ruling
class. The people who don t achieve good grades in school and who aren t very bright, will be known
in society as the working class, and so won t have very good status jobs in society, and the people that

A functionalist named Emile Durkheim believes that the education system introduces the importance
of social solidarity in people. He says Society can survive only if there exists among its members a
sufficient degree of homogeneity; education perpetuates and reinforces this homogeneity by fixing in
the child from the beginning the essential similarities which collective life demands. So he believes
that social life would be impossible without social solidarity amongst people. Social solidarity is when
a mass of individuals in a society is united as a whole, and when people learn to respect their
community and look after one another and their surroundings. Education teaches people this at an
early age, by giving history lessons because this provides a link between the individual and the society
in which they live in. In particular, Durkheim s view are proved by the way pupils are taught in the U.
S. A, where there educational curriculum has introduced the pupils to take an oath to the Stars and
Stripes at the start of every school day, and so they are committed to their society at an early age.
However a criticism to these norms and values that he talks about is that different people have
different norms and values to one another.
Hargreaves who is another functionalist proposes a number of changes to the

Computer-Mediated Communication Use among Adolescents and...
This study uses a combination of two frameworks which are Self Determination Theory and Uses and
Gratification Theory. Both theories have been applied in a variety of disciplines from psychology to
media studies. Specifically, the SDT is concerned primarily with the satisfaction of three
psychological needs are essential nutrients for well being and self initiated actions. These needs
consist of: a) autonomy, refers to human agency or volition for one s action and decision (b)
competence, refers to a sense of mastery and self proficiency in order to interact effectively with one s
world, and (c) relatedness, refers to the feelings of being cared for, likened, and valued by other

To understand why do people use media and what do they use them for, UG was applied to understand
gratification from media exposure. In the context of this theory, it posits that (1) the social and
psychological origins of (2) needs which generate (3) expectations of (4) the mass media or other
sources which lead to (5) differential patterns of media exposure (or engagement in other activities),
resulting in (6) need gratifications and (7) other consequences, perhaps mostly unintended ones . It is
assumed that media use is purposive and motivated, which users are active rather than passive
consumers of media.
This theory would then hold that media choice lies with the users in order to lead to desired outcomes
or goals. This notion can be literally defined as audience centered, and prompts a shift from what
media do to people to what people do with media . In so doing, users often evaluate their available
media options and should be likely to choose a medium that best fulfilling their needs. It is likely that
the degree of the users gratification obtained from the media exposure will contribute to the
continuance of media use. Taken together, these two theories give a clear justification that individuals
are always fully aware of what they are doing and proactive enough to ensure their needs met and
away from those that thwart need fulfillment. The decision of merging theories provides

The Demography Of Aging Population In China
Demography of aging
In 2017, the world population is at 7.5 billion people. China is the most populated country in whole
world. It has 1.379 billion (Google) people making it the largest populated country. China is also the
most largest aging population making it have a high life expectancy and the high accelerating aging
rate in the world (Zheng, 2012). China has advanced with technology and also with age. Only three
decades ago, only 5 percent of the populations was over 65; today, 123 million people, or 9 percent of
the population, are over this age which a report released by the government states that China will be
the world s most aged society in 2030 (Huang, 2013). Since, China is the most largest aging
population this means that less people are dying and more are living. Since, more people are living
this means that need of long term care, health insurance, adjustment of policies and how to make
everyone comfortable living. China is the only country that has an older population exceeding 100
million and annually increases at a rate of 3.2. A dependent territory of China is Hong kong that has
7.347 million people (Google). Hong kong also has a fast growing aged population. Hong kong is also
trying to adjust their long term care system, pensions system and policies to accommodate everyone
living situation.
` The aging population creates a demographic shift. Since, China has a high aging population it has
affected China culturally, socially and family. Families most important social support is family and the
kin system that helps functioned family roles. As aging increases, fertility decreases due to families
looking for more work and to live their lives doing other things rather than having babies. It will have
a dramatic demographic transition in twenty years. Growing old before affluent. Birth control has also
helped with lowering the birth rate. The demographic structure has also changed. In 1950 it held a
perfect pyramid but as time goes on it shows how the youth became a shrinking population. One
strategic solution is the one child policy which helps balance out the rapidly growing population and
to help stimulate development. It restricts family size which help the aging population

Fast Food Industry Essay
The fast food industry has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the suburbs of Southern
California. The industry has grown from being a commodity that worked to satisfy its customers
efficiently to being filled with corporations that are looking to make the largest profits possible. This
has led it to be very involved in political matters and along with the meat industry, it has a very strong
hold over food politics. The effects of this on the American society have become noticeable, with
obesity rates skyrocketing and the overall health of Americans in a pitiful state. It has also become a

Customer health is completely in the hands of the establishment and standards must be met in order to
ensure the health of customers. Due to many loopholes in current standard, it is easy for companies to
take advantage of what is in their food. In order to address public health for the better, many fast food
establishments have made public commitments to use only wholesome and healthy ingredients in their
food. The use of legally binding codes of conduct and ethics in fast food help to ensure public safety
and proper treatment of employees. Enforcement of these codes will make for both a better image of
fast food and receiving more trust from the public.
Over time, an easy scapegoat for consumers suffering from obesity has been fast food itself. The great
taste and relatively cheap price of fast food is claimed as making it an attractive option to those with
low income as well as the middle class, to some extent. Fast food is a long term trend that is of high
impact to modern culture and living. However, it s hard to entirely place the blame on the fast food
industry in the ever growing epidemic of obesity. Although it can easily be identified as a source for
what is linked to obesity, it is more of a moral standpoint where the decision to dine out falls upon the
customer. Fast food restaurants have gone far and wide to clean up their image, offering healthy
choices, providing information on their food s nutrition as well

Things Fall Apart Comparative Essay
Since the dawn of man, there have been periods of time where a society rises with power, and
crumbles beneath its people. Throughout different histories, these people whether it be by an internal
conflict or outside force, they are forced to face the inevitability of change. This shown through two
pieces of literature, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and The Second Coming by William Butler
Yeats. Although The Second Coming and Things Fall Apart both suggest to the end of eras, The
Second Coming refers to Judgement Day and Things Fall Apart refers to the colonization of Africa.
Things Fall Apart uses symbolism to reveal how the colonization of Africa refers to the end of eras.
Achebe uses Okonkwo as a symbol to show his growth as a character is relatable to the length of a
time period. Moments before Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna after he is told to, Achebe writes, E u u,

Yeats compares a falcon to chaos as he writes, Turning and turning in the widening gyre, the falcon
cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the

on sustainability as it inches closer to pure destruction. The Second Coming also uses personification
to show how the emotionless are the only capable of moving on for a better life. Yeats writes, The
ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst all full of passionate
intensity, (1). Yeats gives drowning to the non human trait innocence revealing how there is no longer
justice and how quickly it is lost when the world goes to hell. Literary elements that The Second
Coming uses shine on the fact that the end of eras is impossible and that those who choose not to show

The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child
Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds
children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use
exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the
infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language
acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition
and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can
strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have
recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this
discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest.
Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in
children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It
is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely
motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. These skills, learned
through music instruction, transfer to non musical skills such as verbal

How Does Skin-Tone Crayons Make A Negative Aspect Of...
The content on children s programming on public television greatly impacts cultural sensitivity. The
amount of diversity we have in the United States causes us to have cultural sensitivity on our public
programs which could be positive or negative. Having cultural sensitivity on public programming can
help people acknowledge and accept other ethnicities but, a negative aspect of cultural sensitivity is
over accommodating toward people of these other ethnicities and acting different toward them. Racial
and cultural awareness starts when children are infants and toddlers. At that age, children learn what is
me and what is not me (Biles, Barbara). After a workshop session on cultural awareness, I was asked,
Does this really matter? Will adding skin tone crayons make a difference in children s lives? Yes, I
said, skin tone crayons help a child become aware of who he is and who others are (Biles, Barbara).
The small changes like this will help kids develop positive feelings about their racial and cultural

Government s Intervention On Healthcare System
Tsebelis (1995) offered veto player framework to understand why public policy changes in particular
political system. This framework offers more detail explanation on the public policy changes than
other institutional theory, because veto player framework focuses on the actor instead of the
institutions. This paper reviews three articles on welfare state s policy change. Using the veto player
framework, the three articles give the similar conclusion that in order to change the public policy, we
should understand the number and position of veto points (Immergut, 1990) whether it is on the
executive, legislative or electoral, so we can construct the best strategies to propose the change, the
institutional design (Immergut, 1990; Huber, Rubin and Stephen, 1993) and the common belief system

Self-Recognition In An Asian Elephant

find this article too difficult to read. For these types of studies that have been performed multiple time
requires a person to do enough research on the topic to understand why the study was done and the
goal of the study. This study was done to see can other high functional species, in this case elephants,
show empathy for other creatures besides themselves. Which relates to my thesis of trying to
understand what compels us to make the choices we make. Being able to feel empathy, a feeling to

Identity In Once Were Warriors
1. Introduction
Alan Duff s novel Once Were Warriors was published in 1990 and adapted to a film by director Lee
Tamahori in 1994. The controversial story about a Maori family made Duff a best selling author and
was greatly discussed after its publication (Martens 22f). The Maori family from whose members
points of view the story is told, is called Heke. Living in Pine Block, a fictional ghetto like
neighbourhood, the family s greatest concerns are unemployment, the parents alcoholism, the children
s rebellious behaviour, and the father s violence. Their situation seems hopeless: Jake, the father, loses
his job, drinks too much and repeatedly thrashes his wife Beth, who, in the beginning, prefers drinking
beer to caring for her six children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Readers expect the film to be faithful to its source material in ways that a filmic adaptation simply
cannot be faithful to a literary work, because [t]he demand for fidelity ignores the actual process of
making films, the important differences in modes of production (16). Stam and Raengo go even

medium (17). Another reason why adaptations are infidel to their source material, apart from media
characteristics, is money: While a novelist s choices are relatively unconstrained by considerations of
budget [...] films are from the outset immersed in technology and commerce (16). A novelist only has
to take his or her time to sit down and write a literary work and find a publishing house to publish it,
and therefore does not have to spend large amounts of money. Yet, for a film to be made, numerous
people are involved, for instance a screenwriter, a director, cinematographers, and actors. Thus, Stam
and Raengo assert that while mostly only one individual works on a novel, numerous people are
involved in creating a film (17). This also results in many different opinions on setting, plot,
characters, themes, lightning and so forth, which then leads to

  • 2. Essay on The Epic of Gilgamesh In the ancient Mesopotamian world, the realm of civilization was viewed to be highly illustrious. At the same time, this state of advancement of great antiquity was also an attribute of divinity. The elements of civilization were intimately associated to the highly esteemed divine mediation. Despite the prominent theology culture in The Epic of Gilgamesh, divine intervention is not the only element that could transform the crude heroic figures into sagacious men. Strength and power are definitely not the only possessions that could advance one in life even though they clearly distinguish the heroes from ordinary men. It is rather, more significantly, the process of internalization. No civilization emerges directly and independently it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the King of Uruk is expected to be highly civilized, ironically he does not appear to be so. Overwhelmed with ego, arrogance and complete misuse of power, Gilgamesh has condemned civilization insofar his existence. He thwarts his humanity by emphasizing his strength and power in order to be more successful, forsaking the well being of his people. Hearing the laments and cries of the people of Uruk, the gods then create Enkidu as a match for Gilgamesh. For Enkidu is a divine creation, with [a] virtue in him like the god of war Ninurta, long waved hair of the goddess of corn Nisaba, and body of matted hair like the god of cattle Samuqan (Sandars 63), one would have expected him to be a lesson to Gilgamesh. However, the creation of Enkidu does not really answer the people s grieving as an equal who can contend with Gilgamesh together and keep him busy from all his iniquities (Sandars 62). Enkidu can never be Gilgamesh s match as he is created completely human while Gilgamesh two third divine. This strategy, in fact, works in a different manner whereby Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh the real significance of being a human. This shows a fascinating twist as Gilgamesh s intention to tame Enkidu by sending him a prostitute instead mirrors his taming by Enkidu. It is because Enkidu s indulgence in sex with the prostitute for six days and seven nights that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Time Succeeding Herbert Hoover s Presidency Evelyn Serrano Mrs. Mohan IB History of the Americas Period 10 13 December 2014 Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. The Marxist views of the education system are that there are conflicts because there is an inequality between the working class and the higher classes. They believe that there are two different classes which education produces, and that is the working class and the ruling class. The people who don t achieve good grades in school and who aren t very bright, will be known in society as the working class, and so won t have very good status jobs in society, and the people that ... He says Society can survive only if there exists among its members a sufficient degree of homogeneity; education perpetuates and reinforces this homogeneity by fixing in the child from the beginning the essential similarities which collective life demands. So he believes that social life would be impossible without social solidarity amongst people. Social solidarity is when a mass of individuals in a society is united as a whole, and when people learn to respect their community and look after one another and their surroundings. Education teaches people this at an early age, by giving history lessons because this provides a link between the individual and the society in which they live in. In particular, Durkheim s view are proved by the way pupils are taught in the U. S. A, where there educational curriculum has introduced the pupils to take an oath to the Stars and Stripes at the start of every school day, and so they are committed to their society at an early age. However a criticism to these norms and values that he talks about is that different people have different norms and values to one another. This theory would then hold that media choice lies with the users in order to lead to desired outcomes or goals. This notion can be literally defined as audience centered, and prompts a shift from what media do to people to what people do with media . In so doing, users often evaluate their available media options and should be likely to choose a medium that best fulfilling their needs. It is likely that the degree of the users gratification obtained from the media exposure will contribute to the continuance of media use. The use of legally binding codes of conduct and ethics in fast food help to ensure public safety and proper treatment of employees. Throughout different histories, these people whether it be by an internal conflict or outside force, they are forced to face the inevitability of change. • 29. The Neurological And Behavioral Changes Associated With... Sarah Walker Gordon Deecker INSC 3909 December 14, 2015 The Neurological and Behavioral Changes Associated with Learning Music as a Child Some would argue that humans are intrinsically wired to produce music. As an infant, the sounds children make while learning language mimic the tonal shape of language. Parents also tend to use exaggerated highs and lows in their voices much like a simple melody to prepare and help develop the infant s capacity to learn language. It has also been found that the neural networks used in language acquisition are very similar to those used in music acquisition (Mithen 2006). Language acquisition and development is imperative for an individual to survive, and if training the brain with music can strengthen those networks, this is a subject of great importance. Since the 1940s doctors have recognized the impacts of music on the behavior of patients with mental disabilities, and from this discovery, the effects of music on a regular developing brain became a subject of great interest. Researchers recognized that there was potentially an opportunity to increase brain development in children resulting in discernable enhancements of skills into adulthood (Reschke Hernandez, 2011). It is now known that childhood music education improves skills required for playing music, namely motor functioning, auditory discrimination, and long and short term recall. The amount of diversity we have in the United States causes us to have cultural sensitivity on our public programs which could be positive or negative. Having cultural sensitivity on public programming can help people acknowledge and accept other ethnicities but, a negative aspect of cultural sensitivity is over accommodating toward people of these other ethnicities and acting different toward them. Racial and cultural awareness starts when children are infants and toddlers. At that age, children learn what is me and what is not me (Biles, Barbara). After a workshop session on cultural awareness, I was asked, Does this really matter? Will adding skin tone crayons make a difference in children s lives? Using the veto player framework, the three articles give the similar conclusion that in order to change the public policy, we should understand the number and position of veto points (Immergut, 1990) whether it is on the executive, legislative or electoral, so we can construct the best strategies to propose the change, the institutional design (Immergut, 1990; Huber, Rubin and Stephen, 1993) and the common belief system among the players (Kremer, 2006).
